RESUMO

Increasing rates of autoimmune and inflammatory disease present a burgeoning threat to human health1. This is compounded by the limited efficacy of available treatments1 and high failure rates during drug development2, highlighting an urgent need to better understand disease mechanisms. Here we show how functional genomics could address this challenge. By investigating an intergenic haplotype on chr21q22-which has been independently linked to inflammatory bowel disease, ankylosing spondylitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis and Takayasu's arteritis3-6-we identify that the causal gene, ETS2, is a central regulator of human inflammatory macrophages and delineate the shared disease mechanism that amplifies ETS2 expression. Genes regulated by ETS2 were prominently expressed in diseased tissues and more enriched for inflammatory bowel disease GWAS hits than most previously described pathways. Overexpressing ETS2 in resting macrophages reproduced the inflammatory state observed in chr21q22-associated diseases, with upregulation of multiple drug targets, including TNF and IL-23. Using a database of cellular signatures7, we identified drugs that might modulate this pathway and validated the potent anti-inflammatory activity of one class of small molecules in vitro and ex vivo. Together, this illustrates the power of functional genomics, applied directly in primary human cells, to identify immune-mediated disease mechanisms and potential therapeutic opportunities.

Structural and electrochemical properties of bismuth ferrite nanostructures produced by pulsed laser deposition with various morphologies are reported. The nanostructures are also explored as electrode materials for high-performance supercapacitors. Scanning electron microscopy images revealed that various bismuth ferrite morphologies were produced by varying the background pressure (10-6, 0.01, 0.10, 0.25, 0.50, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 Torr) in the deposition chamber and submitting them to a thermal treatment after deposition at 500◦C. The as-deposited bismuth ferrite nanostructures range from very compact thin-film (10-6, 0.01, 0.10 Torr), to clustered nanoparticles (0.25, 0.50, 1.0 Torr), to very dispersed arrangement of nanoparticles (2.0 and 4.0 Torr). The electrochemical characteristic of the electrodes was investigated through cyclic voltammetry process. The increase in the specific surface area of the nanostructures as background pressure in the chamber increases does not lead to an increase in interfacial capacitance. This is likely due to the wakening of electrical contact between nanoparticles with increasing porosity of the nanostructures. The thermal treatment increased the contact between nanoparticles, which caused an increase in the interfacial capacitance of the nanostructure deposited under high background pressure in the chamber.

This study examines the structures, energies, and IR vibrational spectra of the sulfur dioxide-water SO2(H2O) complexes by employing coupled cluster theory CCSD(T) with Dunning style correlation consistent type basis sets aug-cc-pV(n+d)Z (n = D, T, Q, 5). Complete basis set (CBS) extrapolations have been carried out to predict binding energies for two isomers of the SO2(H2O) complex: a stacked global minimum (1A) structure and a hydrogen-bonded local minimum (1B) structure. The CCSD(T)/CBS extrapolation predicts an intermolecular S-O distance rS⋯O = 2.827 Å for the stacked isomer, which is in excellent agreement with an experimental measurement of 2.824 Å [K. Matsumura et al., J. Chem. Phys., 91, 5887 (1989)]. The CCSD(T)/CBS binding energy for the stacked dimer 1A and hydrogen-bonded form 1B is De = -4.37 kcal/mol and De = -2.40 kcal/mol, respectively. This study also employs anharmonic VPT2 MP2/aug-cc-pV(n+d)Z level corrections to CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pV(n+d)Z vibrational frequencies in both forms of SO2(H2O). The anharmonic CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pV(Q+d)Z OH stretching frequencies in the stacked structure 1A are 3743 cm-1 (ν3) and 3647 cm-1 (ν1), and these align well with the recorded IR spectroscopic values of 3745 and 3643 cm-1, respectively [C. Wang et al., J. Phys. Chem. Lett., 13, 5654 (2022)]. If we combine CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pV(n+d)Z De values with VPT2 vibrational frequencies, we obtain a new CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pV(Q+d)Z anharmonic dissociation energy D0 = -3.48 kcal/mol for 1A and D0 = -1.74 kcal/mol for 1B. In summary, the results presented here demonstrate that the application of CCSD(T) calculations with aug-cc-pV(n+d)Z basis sets and CBS extrapolations is critical in probing the structure and IR spectroscopic properties of the sulfur dioxide-water complex.

Mixed Br/Cl perovskite nanocrystals (PeNCs) exhibit bright pure-blue emission benefiting for fulfilling the Rec. 2100 standard. However, phase segregation remains a significant challenge that severely affects the stability and emission spectrum of perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs). Here, we demonstrate the optimization of the spacing between polydentate functional groups of polymer ligands to match the surface pattern of CsPbBr1.8Cl1.2 PeNCs, resulting in effective synergistic passivation effect and significant improvements in PeLED performances. The block and alternating copolymers with different inter-functional group spacing are facilely synthesized as ligands for PeNCs. Surprisingly, block copolymers with a higher functional group density do not match PeNCs, while alternating copolymers enable efficient PeNCs with the high photoluminescence intensity, low non-radiative recombination rate and high exciton binding energy. Density functional theory calculations clearly confirm the almost perfect match between alternating copolymers and PeNCs. Finally, pure-blue PeLEDs are achieved with the emission at 467 nm and Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.131, 0.071), high external quantum efficiency (9.1 %) and record spectral and operational stabilities (~80 mins) in mixed-halide PeLEDs. Overall, this study contributes to designing the polymer ligands and promoting the development of high-performance and stable pure-color PeLEDs towards display applications.

Chronic low-grade inflammation is associated with a state of diet-induced obesity that impacts systemic tissues and can cross the blood-brain barrier to act directly on the brain. The extent to which pro-inflammatory cytokines released in these conditions affect dopamine presynaptic neurotransmission has not been previously investigated. The purpose of this study was to examine how dopamine terminals are affected by pro-inflammatory cytokines, and to determine if dietary fat consumption potentiates cytokine effects on dopamine release and reuptake rate in the nucleus accumbens (NAc). Male and female C57BL/6J mice were fed high, medium, or low-fat diets (60%, 30%, or 10% total kcals from fat, respectively) for six weeks. Fast scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) was used to measure dopamine release and reuptake rate in the NAc core from ex vivo coronal brain slices. Electrically evoked dopamine release and the maximal rate of dopamine reuptake (Vmax) were significantly lower in mice fed the 30% and 60% high-fat diets compared to the 10% low-fat group (p < 0.05). IL-6 5 or 10 nM or TNFα 30 or 300 nM was added to artificial cerebrospinal fluid (aCSF) bathed over brain slices during FSCV. No effect on dopamine release or Vmax was observed with lower concentrations. However, 10 nM IL-6 and 300 nM TNFα significantly reduced dopamine release in the 60% fat group (p < 0.05). No effect of added cytokine was observed on Vmax. Overall, these data provide evidence that dietary fat increases neural responsiveness to cytokines, which may help inform comorbidities between diet-induced obesity and depression or other mood disorders.

RESUMO

Advancing inverted (p-i-n) perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is critical for commercial applications given their compatibility with different bottom cells for tandem photovoltaics, low-temperature processability (≤100 °C), and promising operational stability. Although inverted PSCs have achieved an efficiency of over 25 % using doped or expensive organic hole transport materials (HTMs), their synthesis cost and stability still cannot meet the requirements for their commercialization. Recently, dopant-free and low-cost non-stoichiometric nickel oxide nanocrystals (NiOx NCs) have been extensively studied as a low-cost and effective HTM in perovskite optoelectronics. In this minireview, we summarize the synthesis and surface-functionalization methods of NiOx NCs. Then, the applications of NiOx NCs in other perovskite optoelectronics beyond photovoltaics are discussed. Finally, we provide a perspective for the future development of NiOx NCs for the commercialization of perovskite optoelectronics.

Diets high in saturated fat (HFD) disrupt dopamine neurotransmission, whereas fasting alters tonic and phasic dopamine release to drive motivation and food consumption. However, functional compartments in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) influencing these effects are not well characterized, and sex comparisons have not been made. This study sought to determine whether consumption of a HFD, sex, or being fed versus fasted altered baseline dopamine release and reuptake throughout NAc subregions. Male and female C57BL/6 mice were fed a control diet or nutrient matched HFD for six weeks. Ex-vivo fast-scan cyclic voltammetry revealed females had significantly slower dopamine reuptake in the NAc core than males when fed ad lib control diet. Fasting enhanced dopamine release and reuptake in the NAc core but not the medioventral shell. Further, being fasted versus fed significantly increased dopamine release throughout the NAc core in control males but specifically promoted release and reuptake in only the ventrolateral core of HF-fed males, effects which were lacking in females. Finally, fasting promoted dopamine release and reuptake in the rostral NAc core of controls and more caudally in HFD groups. These data support that dopamine neurotransmission is heterogeneous in NAc subregions and suggest the ventrolateral core is responsive to energy state. Furthermore, a rostrocaudal gradient in the NAc core might control valence responses to fasting that could promote overeating after chronic HFD consumption.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of sex and body mass index (BMI) on the thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis of adolescents and to assess the reliability and agreement of the flexicurve method for these measurements. METHODS: The study included 217 adolescents of both sexes, aged between 11 and 15 years, who were students from municipal schools in the city of São José dos Campos in São Paulo. The measurement of thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis angles was performed using the flexicurve method. Descriptive analysis of the data, analysis of covariance for comparison between groups (by BMI and sex), assessment of reliability, and intrarater agreement were analyzed. RESULTS: There was a significant difference between the groups by BMI and sex only for lumbar lordosis. The obese group had greater lumbar angles for both sexes (female sex: 32.6° ± 7.8° [eutrophic]; 37.7° ± 7.3° [obese]; male sex: 25.3° ± 7.3° [eutrophic]; 32.2° ± 7.3° [obese]). In the comparison between the sexes, the greatest lumbar angles were found in the female sex (female sex: 32.6° ± 7.8°; male sex: 25.3° ± 7.3°) among the eutrophic. Excellent intrarater reliability was found for thoracic kyphosis (intraclass correlation coefficient, 0.86) and moderate for lumbar lordosis (intraclass correlation coefficient, 0.72). CONCLUSION: Sex and BMI were associated with lumbar lordosis in adolescents and were greater in individuals with obesity and female individuals. The flexicurve method was reliable and accurate for the assessment of thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis in adolescents.

OBJECTIVE: There is growing recognition of the importance of increasing preparedness for and the provision of palliative care in humanitarian crises. The primary objective of this review is to interpret the existing literature on culture and palliative care to query the recommendation that humanitarian healthcare providers, teams, and organizations integrate palliative care into their practice in ways that are attentive to and respectful of cultural differences. METHODS: A critical interpretive synthesis was applied to a systematic literature review guided by the PRISMA framework. Analysis was based on directed data extraction and was team based, to ensure rigor and consistency. RESULTS: In total, 112 articles covering 51 countries and 9 major worldviews met inclusion criteria. This literature describes culture as it influences perspectives on death and dying, expectations of palliative care, and challenges to providing culturally sensitive care. A key pattern highlighted in articles with respect to the culture and palliative care literature is that culture is invoked in this literature as a sort of catch-all for non-white, non-Christian, indigenous practices, and preferences for palliative care. It is important that humanitarian healthcare providers and organizations aiming to enact their commitment of respect for all persons through attention to potential culturally specific approaches to pain management, suffering, and dying in specific crisis settings do so without reproducing Othering and reductionistic understandings of what culturally sensitive care in humanitarian crises settings involves. SIGNIFICANCE OF RESULTS: This paper clarifies and unpacks the diverse influences of culture in palliative care with the goal of supporting the preparedness and capacity of humanitarian healthcare providers to provide palliative care. In doing so, it aids in thinking through what constitutes culturally sensitive practice when it comes to palliative care needs in humanitarian crises. Providing such care is particularly challenging but also tremendously important given that healthcare providers from diverse cultures are brought together under high stress conditions.

BACKGROUND: In Sweden, social restrictions to contain SARS-CoV-2 have primarily relied upon voluntary adherence to a set of recommendations. Strict lockdowns have not been enforced, potentially affecting viral dissemination. To understand the levels of past SARS-CoV-2 infection in the Stockholm population before the start of mass vaccinations, healthy blood donors and pregnant women (n = 5,100) were sampled at random between 14 March 2020 and 28 February 2021. METHODS: In this cross-sectional prospective study, otherwise-healthy blood donors (n = 2,600) and pregnant women (n = 2,500) were sampled for consecutive weeks (at four intervals) throughout the study period. Sera from all participants and a cohort of historical (negative) controls (n = 595) were screened for IgG responses against stabilized trimers of the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) glycoprotein and the smaller receptor-binding domain (RBD). As a complement to standard analytical approaches, a probabilistic (cut-off independent) Bayesian framework that assigns likelihood of past infection was used to analyse data over time. SETTING: Healthy participant samples were randomly selected from their respective pools through Karolinska University Hospital. The study was carried out in accordance with Swedish Ethical Review Authority: registration number 2020-01807. PARTICIPANTS: No participants were symptomatic at sampling, and blood donors were all over the age of 18. No additional metadata were available from the participants. RESULTS: Blood donors and pregnant women showed a similar seroprevalence. After a steep rise at the start of the pandemic, the seroprevalence trajectory increased steadily in approach to the winter second wave of infections, approaching 15% of all individuals surveyed by 13 December 2020. By the end of February 2021, 19% of the population tested seropositive. Notably, 96% of seropositive healthy donors screened (n = 56) developed neutralizing antibody responses at titres comparable to or higher than those observed in clinical trials of SARS-CoV-2 spike mRNA vaccination, supporting that mild infection engenders a competent B-cell response. CONCLUSIONS: These data indicate that in the first year since the start of community transmission, seropositivity levels in metropolitan in Stockholm had reached approximately one in five persons, providing important baseline seroprevalence information prior to the start of vaccination.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the early responses to joint injury in conventional and germ-free mice. DESIGN: Post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) was induced using a non-invasive anterior cruciate ligament rupture model in 20-week old germ-free (GF) and conventional C57BL/6 mice. Injury was induced in the left knees of n = 8 GF and n = 10 conventional mice. To examine the effects of injury, n = 5 GF and n = 9 conventional naïve control mice were used. Mice were euthanized 7 days post-injury, followed by synovial fluid recovery for global metabolomic profiling and analysis of epiphyseal trabecular bone by micro-computed tomography (µCT). Global metabolomic profiling assessed metabolic differences in the joint response to injury between GF and conventional mice. Magnitude of trabecular bone volume loss measured using µCT assessed early OA progression in GF and conventional mice. RESULTS: µCT found that GF mice had significantly less trabecular bone loss compared to conventional mice, indicating that the GF status was protective against early OA changes in bone structure. Global metabolomic profiling showed that conventional mice had greater variability in their metabolic response to injury, and a more distinct joint metabolome compared to their corresponding controls. Furthermore, differences in the response to injury in GF compared to conventional mice were linked to mouse metabolic pathways that regulate inflammation associated with the innate immune system. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that the gut microbiota promote the development of PTOA during the acute phase following joint trauma possibly through the regulation of the innate immune system.

While organic-inorganic halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) show great potential for realizing low-cost and easily fabricated photovoltaics, the unexpected defects and long-term stability against moisture are the main issues hindering their practical applications. Herein, a strategy is demonstrated to address the main issues by introducing lead sulfide quantum dots (QDs) on the perovskite surface as the multifunctional interface layer on perovskite film through establishing perovskite as the ligand on PbS QDs. Meanwhile, the multifunctions are featured in three aspects including the strong interactions of PbS QDs with perovskites particularly at the grain boundaries favoring good QDs coverage on perovskites for ultimate smooth morphology; an inhibition of iodide ions mobilization by the strong interaction between iodide and the incorporated QDs; and the reduction of the dangling bonds of Pb2+ by the sulfur atoms of PbS QDs. Finally, the device performances are highly improved due to the reduced defects and non-radiative recombination. The results show that both open-circuit voltage and fill factor are significantly improved to the high values of 1.13 V and 80%, respectively in CH3 NH3 PbI3 -based PSCs, offering a high efficiency of 20.64%. The QDs incorporation also enhances PSCs' stability benefitting from the induced hydrophobic surface and suppressed iodide mobilization.

Two air-stable, isostructural, mononuclear six-coordinate manganese(II) and cobalt(II) oxamate complexes, [M(4-HOpa)2(H2O)2] [4-HOpa = N-4-hydroxyphenyloxamate; M= Mn2+ (1) or Co2+ (2)], exhibit field-induced slow magnetic relaxation. A bottleneck process is observed throughout the temperature range of 2-20 K for 1, while for 2, it dominates only at low temperatures (2-4 K). Additionally, the Raman process [n = 6.9(2)] is responsible for an increase in the relaxation time at higher temperatures to 2.

Ozone-water complexes O3(H2O)n (n = 1-2) have been studied using coupled cluster theory with triple excitations CCSD(T) with correlation consistent basis sets aug-cc-pVnZ (n = D, T, Q) and complete basis set (CBS) extrapolation techniques. We identified seven dimer (n = 1) and nine trimer species (n = 2) with open C2v and cyclic D3h ozone. Calculations at the CCSD(T)/CBS level of theory for C2v O3(H2O) on the counterpoise (CP)-corrected potential energy surface yield a dissociation energy of De = 2.31 kcal/mol and an O3 central-oxygen (Oc) H2O oxygen (Ow) distance r[Oc⋯Ow] of 3.097 Å, which is in good agreement with an experimental value of 2.957 Å [J. Z. Gillies et al., J. Mol. Spectrosc. 146, 493 (1991)]. Combining our CCSD(T)/CBS value of De for C2v O3(H2O) with our best estimate anharmonic CCSD(T)/aVTZ ΔZPE yields a Do value of 1.82 kcal/mol; the CCSD(T)/CBS value of De for D3h O3(H2O) is 1.51 kcal/mol and yields an anharmonic CCSD(T)/aVTZ Do = 0.99 kcal/mol. CCSD(T)/aVTZ dissociation energies and structures for C2v O3(H2O)2 are De = 4.15 kcal/mol, (Do = 3.08 kcal/mol) and r[Oc⋯Ow] = 2.973 Å, and De = 2.64 kcal/mol (Do = 1.68 kcal/mol) with r[Oc⋯Ow] = 2.828 Å for D3h O3(H2O)2. The results from ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, which consider dynamic and thermal effects in O3(H2O), show that the O3(H2O) complex remains stable at 50 K and dynamically interconverts between two hydrogen-bonded conformers with short Oc⋯Ow contacts (3.85 Å). Carr-Parrinello molecular dynamic (CPMD) simulations for O3(H2O) and O3(H2O)2 at 100 K demonstrate that O3(H2O)2 remains structurally intact, whereas O3(H2O) dissociates to free ozone and water, a feature consistent with the larger average binding energy in O3(H2O)2 (2.2 kcal/mol) vs that in O3(H2O) (1.8 kcal/mol). Finally, the results from CCSD(T)/CBS and CPMD simulations demonstrate that the large inter-trimer binding energies in O3(H2O)2 would give rise to an elevated trimer/dimer population ratio, making O3(H2O)2 a particularly stable and spectroscopically detectable complex.

OBJECTIVE: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a multifactorial disease with etiological heterogeneity. The objective of this study was to classify OA subgroups by generating metabolomic phenotypes from human synovial fluid. DESIGN: Post mortem synovial fluids (n = 75) were analyzed by high performance-liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) to measure changes in the global metabolome. Comparisons of healthy (grade 0), early OA (grades I-II), and late OA (grades III-IV) donor populations were considered to reveal phenotypes throughout disease progression. RESULTS: Global metabolomic profiles in synovial fluid were distinct between healthy, early OA, and late OA donors. Pathways differentially activated among these groups included structural deterioration, glycerophospholipid metabolism, inflammation, central energy metabolism, oxidative stress, and vitamin metabolism. Within disease states (early and late OA), subgroups of donors revealed distinct phenotypes. Synovial fluid metabolomic phenotypes exhibited increased inflammation (early and late OA), oxidative stress (late OA), or structural deterioration (early and late OA) in the synovial fluid. CONCLUSION: These results revealed distinct metabolic phenotypes in human synovial fluid, provide insight into pathogenesis, represent novel biomarkers, and can move toward developing personalized interventions for subgroups of OA patients.

Smith-Magenis syndrome (SMS) is a contiguous gene syndrome linked to interstitial microdeletion, or mutation of RAI1, within chromosome 17p11.2. Key behavioral features of SMS include intellectual disability, sleep-disturbances, maladaptive, aggressive and self-injurious behaviors, hyperactivity, and sudden changes in mood. A distinguishing feature of this syndrome is an inverted pattern of melatonin characterized by elevated daytime and low nighttime melatonin levels. As the central circadian clock controls the 24-hr rhythm of melatonin, we hypothesized that the clock itself may contribute to the disrupted pattern of melatonin and sleep. In this report, 24-hr patterns of body temperature, a surrogate marker of clock-timing, and continuous wrist activity were collected to examine the links between body temperature, sleep behavior, and the circadian clock. In addition, age-dependent changes in sleep behavior were explored. Actigraphy-estimated sleep time for SMS was 1 hr less than expected across all ages studied. The timing of the 24-hr body temperature (Tb-24) rhythm was phase advanced, but not inverted. Compared to sibling (SIB) controls, the SMS group had less total night sleep, lower sleep efficiency, earlier sleep onset, earlier final awake times, increased waking after sleep onset (WASO), and increased daytime nap duration. The timing of wake onset varied with age, providing evidence of ongoing developmental sleep changes from childhood through adolescence. Clarification of the circadian and developmental factors that contribute to the disrupted and variable sleep patterns in this syndrome will be helpful in identifying more effective individualized treatments.

We report on one-color experiments near 214 nm involving the photodissociation of jet-cooled OCS to produce high rotational states (40 < J < 80) of CO (X 1Σ+, v = 0, 1) which were then ionized by 2+1 resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization via the E 1Π state. The nominally forbidden Q-branch of the two-photon E 1Π-X 1Σ+ transition is observed with intensity comparable to the allowed R-branch. The bright character of the high- J Q-branch lines can be described quantitatively as intensity borrowing due to mixing of the E 1Π and C 1Σ+ states, using J-dependent mixing coefficients extrapolated from the observed Λ-doubling in the lower rotational levels of the E state. In addition to the significant enhancement of Q-branch intensities above the values predicted by conventional two-photon line strengths for a 1Π-1Σ+ transition, the high- J lines of the R- and P-branches appear to be suppressed in intensity by approximately a factor of 3 compared to the unperturbed low- J line strengths, most likely due to perturbations associated with a 1Σ- state. The E-state rotational term values for J < 80, v = 0 derived from the present spectra agree within our measurement and calibration uncertainties with the extrapolations based on the molecular constants previously derived from rotational levels with J < 50. The E-X transition is attractive for future application to photodissociation dynamics and rotational polarization measurements of CO photofragments, with convenient access to state-selective probing on multiple rotational branches, which exhibit different sensitivity to fragment alignment.

Ketamine, a drug with rapid antidepressant effects and well-described effects on slow wave sleep (SWS), is a useful intervention for investigating sleep-wake mechanisms involved in novel therapeutics. The drug rapidly (within minutes to hours) reduces depressive symptoms in individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD) or bipolar disorder (BD), including those with treatment-resistant depression. Ketamine treatment elevates extracellular glutamate in the prefrontal cortex. Glutamate, in turn, plays a critical role as a proximal element in a ketamine-initiated molecular cascade that increases synaptic strength and plasticity, which ultimately results in rapidly improved mood. In MDD, rapid antidepressant response to ketamine is related to decreased waking as well as increased total sleep, SWS, slow wave activity (SWA), and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Ketamine also increases brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels. In individuals with MDD, clinical response to ketamine is predicted by low baseline delta sleep ratio, a measure of deficient early night production of SWS. Notably, there are important differences between MDD and BD that may be related to the effects of diagnosis or of mood stabilizers. Consistent with its effects on clock-associated molecules, ketamine alters the timing and amplitude of circadian activity patterns in rapid responders versus non-responders with MDD, suggesting that it affects mood-dependent central neural circuits. Molecular interactions between sleep homeostasis and clock genes may mediate the rapid and durable elements of clinical response to ketamine and its active metabolite.

Emerging novel metal electrodes not only serve as the collector of free charge carriers, but also function as light trapping designs in photovoltaics. As a potential alternative to commercial indium tin oxide, transparent electrodes composed of metal nanowire, metal mesh, and ultrathin metal film are intensively investigated and developed for achieving high optical transmittance and electrical conductivity. Moreover, light trapping designs via patterning of the back thick metal electrode into different nanostructures, which can deliver a considerable efficiency improvement of photovoltaic devices, contribute by the plasmon-enhanced light-mattering interactions. Therefore, here the recent works of metal-based transparent electrodes and patterned back electrodes in photovoltaics are reviewed, which may push the future development of this exciting field.

Vinylsulfur pentafluoride (VSPF), a molecule with a four-fold internal rotor, -SF4, has been studied with high resolution Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. We believe that this is the first report of resolved four-fold internal rotation. As such, we have presented the tools needed to understand and analyze such a problem. These include debugging the ERHAM computer program necessary to fit the spectra and the free rotor to high barrier correlation diagram necessary to understand the torsional states of the four-fold rotor. The A, E, and B torsional state rotational transitions are well resolved and assigned. Spectroscopic transitions of four isotopologues of VSPF, H2C=CH-SF5, the normal isotopologue, and the singly substituted 34S and 13C isotopologues were measured and assigned. Contrary to expectation, the A torsional state could not be fit with only a semi-rigid Hamiltonian. The barrier to internal rotation, V 4, is found to be 227 cm-1. Ab initio calculations at the MP2 aug-cc-pVQZ level of theory and basis set were performed and the results of this calculation are compared to our experimental results.
