RESUMO

Developing efficient bifunctional catalysts for nonprecious metal-based oxygen reduction (ORR) and oxygen evolution (OER) is crucial to enhance the practical application of zinc-air batteries. The study harnessed electrostatic forces to anchor the nanoflower-like NiCo2O4 onto graphene oxide, mitigating the poor inherent conductivity in NiCo2O4 as a transition metal oxide and preventing excessive agglomeration of the nanoflower-like structures during catalysis. Consequently, the resulting composite, NiCo2O4-GO/C, exhibited notably superior ORR and OER catalytic performance compared to pure nanoflower-like NiCo2O4. Notably, it excelled in OER catalytic activity of the OER relative to the precious metal RuO2. As a bifunctional catalyst for ORR and OER, NiCo2O4-GO/C displayed a potential difference of 0.88 V between the ORR half-wave potential and the OER potential at 10 mA·cm-2, significantly lower than the 1.08 V observed for pure flower-like NiCo2O4 and comparable to the 0.88 V exhibited by precious metal catalysts Pt/C + RuO2. The NiCo2O4-GO/C-based zinc-air battery demonstrated a discharge capacity of 817.3 mA h·g-1, surpassing that of precious metal-based zinc-air batteries. Moreover, charge-discharge cycling tests indicated the superior stability of the NiCo2O4-GO/C-based zinc-air battery compared to its precious metal-based counterparts.

RESUMO

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are important in tumorigenesis and the development of multiple malignant human tumors, including colorectal cancer (CRC). We aimed to determine the regulatory mechanism of LINC01485 and its biological function in CRC. We estimated the expression of miR-383-5p, KRT80, and LINC01485 in CRC cells and tissues using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blotting. The results were confirmed using RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) and dual-luciferase assays. Binding relationships among miR-383-5p, LINC01485, and KRT80 were assessed. We explored the molecular mechanisms and functions of the LINC01485/miR-383-5p/KRT80 axis using CCK-8 and colony formation assays. Expression of the apoptotic markers Bcl-2 and Bax was quantified by western blotting, and the effects of LINC01485 on tumor development in vivo were investigated using xenograft tumors. Both LINC01485 and KRT80 were upregulated, whereas miR-383-5p was downregulated in CRC cells and tissues. Knockdown of LINC01485 attenuated CRC cell growth and xenograft tumor formation in vivo, whereas LINC01485 enhanced the proliferative capacity of CRC cells but inhibited apoptosis by sponging miR-383-5p to increase KRT80 expression in CRC cells. The regulatory molecular mechanism of the LINC01485/miR-383-5p/KRT80 axis plays a crucial role in CRC progression. Our findings highlight novel pathways and promising biomarkers for diagnostic and therapeutic application to patients with CRC.

RESUMO

Developing high-performance and cost-competitive electrocatalysts have great significance for the massive commercial production of water-splitting hydrogen. Ni-based electrocatalysts display tremendous potential for electrocatalytic water splitting. Herein, we synthesize a novel NiFe-layered double hydroxide (LDH) electrocatalyst in nanosheets array on high-purity Ni foam. By adjusting the Ni/Fe ratio, the microstructure, and even the behavior of the electrocatalyst in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), changes significantly. The as-obtained material shows a small overpotential of 223 mV at 10 mAcm-2 as well as a low Tafel slope of 48.9 mV·dec-1 in the 1 M KOH electrolyte. In addition, it can deliver good stability for at least 24 h of continuous working at 10 mAcm-2. This work proposes a strategy for engineering catalysts and provides a method for the development of other Ni-based catalysts with excellent performance.

RESUMO

Enhancing research indicatedthat circular RNA (circRNA) acted a critical part in cholangiocarcinoma (CHOL) development. This research aims to discover the role of circRNA SWI/SNF-related, matrix-associated, actin-dependent regulator of chromatin, subfamily a, member 5 (SMARCA5) in CHOL bio-progression, which has been proved to be downregulated in CHOL tissues. In this study, quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was used to reveal the level and linkage of circRNA SMARCA5, miRNA-95-3p and TNF receptor-associated factor 3 gene (TRAF3) in CHOL tissues and cancer cells. The target sites of circRNA SMARCA5 and miRNA-95-3p were forecast by Starbase, and Targetscan was conducted to forecast the potential linkage points of TRAF3 and miRNA-95-3p, and which is affirmed by double luciferase reporter assay. CCK-8 and flow cytometry assay was carried to indicate cell viability. And apoptosis-related protein was counted by caspase3 activity and Western blot assay. CircRNA SMARCA5 was downregulated in CHOL cell lines and cancer samples. Besides, over-expression of SMARCA5 inhibited cell growth and promoted apoptotic rate. Dual-luciferase reporter assays presented that miRNA-95-3p could link with circRNA SMARCA5. Moreover, miRNA-95-3p was discovered highly expressed in CHOL. Interference of miRNA-95-3p repressed cell proliferation and raised the apoptosis. Importantly, TRAF3 was validated to be a downstream of miRNA-95-3p. Strengthen of miRNA-95-3p reversed the inhibitory impact of circRNA SMARCA5-plasmid transfection, and the results of miRNA-95-3p inhibitor were reversed by si-TRAF3. CircRNA SMARCA5 is involved in CHOL development by interosculating miRNA-95-3p/TRAF3 axis and may become a novel approach for treating CHOL.

RESUMO

Despite having ultra-high theoretical specific capacity and theoretical energy density, lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries suffer from their low Coulombic efficiency and poor lifespan, and the commercial application of Li-S batteries is seriously hampered by the severe "shuttle effect" of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and the large volume expansion ratio of the sulfur electrode during cycling. Designing functional hosts for sulfur cathodes is one of the most effective ways to immobilize the LiPSs and improve the electrochemical performance of a Li-S battery. In this work, a polypyrrole (PPy)-coated anatase/bronze TiO2 (TAB) heterostructure was successfully prepared and used as a sulfur host. Results showed that the porous TAB could physically adsorb and chemically interact with LiPSs during charging and discharging processes, inhibiting the LiPSs' shuttle effect, and the TAB's heterostructure and PPy conductive layer are conducive to the rapid transport of Li+ and improve the conductivity of the electrode. By benefitting from these merits, Li-S batteries with TAB@S/PPy electrodes could deliver a high initial capacity of 1250.4 mAh g-1 at 0.1 C and show an excellent cycling stability (the average capacity decay rate was 0.042% per cycle after 1000 cycles at 1 C). This work brings a new idea for the design of functional sulfur cathodes for high-performance Li-S battery.

RESUMO

Atherosclerosis is a complex pathological process involving macrophages, endothelial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells that can lead to ischemic heart disease; however, the mechanisms underlying cell-to-cell communication in atherosclerosis are poorly understood. In this study, we focused on the role of exosomal miRNAs in crosstalk between macrophages and endothelial cells and explored the rarely studied molecular mechanisms involved. Our in vitro result showed that macrophage-derived exosomal miR-4532 significantly disrupted human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) function by targeting SP1 and downstream NF-κB P65 activation. In turn, increased endothelin-1 (ET-1), intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) and decreased endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) expression in HUVECs increased attraction of macrophages, exacerbating foam cell formation and transfer of exosomal miR-4532 to HUVECs. MiR-4532 overexpression significantly promoted endothelial injury and pretreatment with an inhibitor of miR-4532 or GW4869 (exosome inhibitor) could reverse this injury. In conclusion, our data reveal that exosomes have a critical role in crosstalk between HUVECs and macrophages. Further, exosomal miR-4532 transferred from macrophages to HUVECs and targeting specificity protein 1 (SP1) may be a novel therapeutic target in patients with atherosclerosis.

RESUMO

An all-optical microwave oscillator (AOMO) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. It contains only a mutual injection loop consisting of two distributed feedback laser diodes (DFB-LDs) and a few passive components. In this AOMO, the microwave seed signal originates from the period-one (P1) oscillation in one of the DFB-LDs. The functions of microwave envelope detection and feedback modulation are implemented by the other DFB-LD. Due to the optical injection locking and the optical-optical modulated effect in DFB-LD, the P1 signal is enhanced, and the stability of the P1 signal can be improved by coupling the P1 signal with a resonant mode of the mutual injection loop. Meanwhile, since the P1 oscillation is sensitive to injected light, the frequency of the P1 signal can be easily adjusted, which makes the AOMO easy to be tuned. In the experiment, a highly stable single-mode microwave signal with a frequency of 16.69 GHz and a single-sideband (SSB) phase noise of -90.7 dBc/Hz@10 kHz is generated. The frequency can be tuned from 14.48 to 21.45 GHz by adjusting the parameters of DFB-LDs and the injection light.

RESUMO

Ranging accuracy is a critical parameter in time-based indoor positioning systems. Indoor environments often have complex structures, which make centimeter-level-accurate ranging a challenging task. This study proposes a new distance measurement method to decrease the ranging error in multipath environment. Our method uses an artificial neural network that utilizes the received signal strength indicator along with a signal's angle of arrival to calculate the line-of-sight distance. This combination results in a significant reduction of the error caused by multipath effects that common RSSI-based methods suffer from. It outperforms traditional ranging methods while the implementation complexity is kept low.

RESUMO

Epilepsy is a serious neurological disorder that affects more than 60 million people worldwide. Intractable epilepsy (IE) refers to approximately 20%-30% of epileptic patients who fail to achieve seizure control with antiepileptic drug (AED) treatment. Although the mechanisms underlying IE are not well understood, it has been hypothesized that multidrug transporters such as P-glycoprotein (P-gp) play a major role in drug efflux at the blood-brain barrier, and may be the underlying factor in the variable responses of patients to AEDs. The main goal of the present review is to show evidence from different areas that support the idea that the overexpression of P-gp is associated with IE. We discuss here evidence from animal studies, pharmacology, clinical cases and genetic studies.

RESUMO

A growing body of evidence has indicated the important role of autophagy receptors in directing ubiquitinated or non-ubiquitinated cargos towards autophagy. Autophagy receptors bind to LC3 (microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3) on phagophore and autophagosome membranes, and recognize signals on cargoes in the delivery system of autophagy. However, the diverse domains in the receptor structures determine that their roles would never be limited to autophagy. Up to date, increasing numbers of the receptor proteins have been demonstrated to serve as a molecular link or switch participating in autophagic degradation, apoptosis or cell survival signals. Here, we highlight the non-autophagic roles of these receptor proteins to draw attention to this growing research topic.

RESUMO

In the development of radio frequency (RF) coils for better quality of the mini-type permanent magnetic resonance imager for using in the small animal imaging, the solenoid RF coil has a special advantage for permanent magnetic system based on analyses of various types.of RF coils. However, it is not satisfied for imaging if the RF coils are directly used. By theoretical analyses of the magnetic field properties produced from the solenoid coil, the research direction was determined by careful studies to raise further the uniformity of the magnetic field coil, receiving coil sensitivity for signals and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The method had certain advantages and avoided some shortcomings of the other different coil types, such as, birdcage coil, saddle shaped coil and phased array coil by using the alloy materials (from our own patent). The RF coils were designed, developed and made for keeled applicable to permanent magnet-type magnetic resonance imager, multi-coil combination-type, single-channel overall RF receiving coil, and applied for a patent. Mounted on three instruments (25 mm aperture, with main magnetic field strength of 0.5 T or 1.5 T, and 50 mm aperture, with main magnetic field strength of 0.48 T), we performed experiments with mice, rats, and nude mice bearing tumors. The experimental results indicated that the RF receiving coil was fully applicable to the permanent magnet-type imaging system.

RESUMO

Objective: Over the last two decades, the quantity of papers published in relation to robotic surgery in obstetrics and gynecology has continued to grow globally. However, no bibliometric analysis based on VOSviewer has been performed to evaluate the past and present of global research in the field. In this study, we aimed to analyze the bibliometric characteristics of papers on robotic surgery in obstetrics and gynecology to reveal research hotspots and trends in this field. Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection was searched for scientific papers on robotic surgery in obstetrics and gynecology published between January 1, 1998 and December 31, 2023. Bibliometric metadata of each selected paper was extracted for analysis. The results were visualized by VOSviewer (version 1.6.18). Results: A total of 1,430 papers met the inclusion criteria. The United States had the highest total link strengths and contributed the most papers (n = 793). The Mayo Clinic produced the largest number of papers (n = 85), and Professor Pedro T Ramirez contributed the most papers (n = 36). The number of citations ranged from 0 to 295 with a total sum of 29,103. The Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology published the most relevant papers (n = 252). Keywords were classified into six clusters based on co-occurrence data, of which cluster 1, cluster 4 and cluster 6 had more main keywords with the largest average publication year. Conclusions: This is the first VOSviewer-based bibliometric analysis of robotic surgery research in obstetrics and gynecology. The United States was the leading country, and the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology was the most productive journal in the field. Scientists and institutions from around the world should push their boundaries to bring about deep collaboration. The main research topic has always been the use of robotic surgery in the treatment of gynecologic malignancies. More randomized controlled trials need to be conducted to compare surgical outcomes of robotic surgery with other surgical approaches. Robotic sacrocolpopexy for pelvic organ prolapse has become a new research hotspot, and robotic surgery for sentinel lymph node detection in gynecologic malignancies are more potential directions for future research.

RESUMO

AIM: To evaluate the predictive value of superficial retinal capillary plexus (SRCP) and radial peripapillary capillary (RPC) for visual field recovery after optic cross decompression and compare them with peripapillary nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) and ganglion cell complex (GCC). METHODS: This prospective longitudinal observational study included patients with chiasmal compression due to sellar region mass scheduled for decompressive surgery. Generalized estimating equations were used to compare retinal vessel density and retinal layer thickness pre- and post-operatively and with healthy controls. Logistic regression models were used to assess the relationship between preoperative GCC, pRNFL, SRCP, and RPC parameters and visual field recovery after surgery. RESULTS: The study included 43 eyes of 24 patients and 48 eyes of 24 healthy controls. Preoperative RPC and SRCP vessel density and pRNFL and GCC thickness were lower than healthy controls and higher than postoperative values. The best predictive GCC and pRNFL models were based on the superior GCC [area under the curve (AUC)=0.866] and the tempo-inferior pRNFL (AUC=0.824), and the best predictive SRCP and RPC models were based on the nasal SRCP (AUC=0.718) and tempo-inferior RPC (AUC=0.825). There was no statistical difference in the predictive value of the superior GCC, tempo-inferior pRNFL, and tempo-inferior RPC (all P>0.05). CONCLUSION: Compression of the optic chiasm by tumors in the saddle area can reduce retinal thickness and blood perfusion. This reduction persists despite the recovery of the visual field after decompression surgery. GCC, pRNFL, and RPC can be used as sensitive predictors of visual field recovery after decompression surgery.

RESUMO

Soil microorganisms can be used as one of the important indicators of wetland ecosystem restoration. To study the effects of different restoration stages on soil microbial community composition and diversity in Naolihe Wetland, we employed a "time and space parallel" method. Four restoration stages, namely corn field (Corn), short-term restoration wetland (2 years, ST), long-term restoration wetland (8 years, LT) and natural wetland (>25 years, NW), were selected to represent the restoration time and geographical location in Naolihe Nature Wetland. We investigated the composition and diversity of soil microbial communities in different restoration wetland (from corn fields to natural wetlands) by using 16S rRNA and ITS rRNA gene sequencing. We also performed chemical experiments to measure soil enzyme activity and physicochemical properties at each sampling site. The results showed that soil physicochemical properties and enzyme activities significantly differed with the extension of wetland restoration years (p < 0.05). Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, and Actinobacteria are the most dominant phyla in bacterial. The alpha diversity of soil bacteria was the highest in the corn field (Corn), and ST-LT-NW first decreased and then increased with the extension of wetland restoration years. There are two most dominant phyla (Ascomycota and Mucoromycota) in fungal. However, the alpha diversity of soil fungi was the lowest in the Corn and LT stage, and ST-LT-NW first decreased and then increased with the extension of wetland restoration years. The research findings indicated that the changes in soil physicochemical properties with the extension of wetland restoration years play a significant role in shaping the structure and diversity changes of soil microbial communities. Through the analyses of bacterial and fungal functions using the FUNGuild and FAPROTAX databases, the results showed that the abundance of aerobic bacteria in the soil increased more than that of anaerobic bacteria as the wetland restoration years prolonged, while the abundance of saprotrophic, symbiotic, and pathogenic fungi in the soil significantly decreased with the prolonged wetland restoration years. This study will help us better understand the process of restoration after farmland abandonment, providing valuable reference information for the implementation of a series of wetland ecological restoration projects in the future.

RESUMO

In recent decades, artificial intelligence (AI) has played an increasingly important role in medicine, including dermatology. Worldwide, numerous studies have reported on AI applications in dermatology, rapidly increasing interest in this field. However, no bibliometric studies have been conducted to evaluate the past, present, or future of this topic. This study aimed to illustrate past and present research and outline future directions for global research on AI applications in dermatology using bibliometric analysis. We conducted an online search of the Web of Science Core Collection database to identify scientific papers on AI applications in dermatology. The bibliometric metadata of each selected paper were extracted, analyzed, and visualized using VOS viewer and Cite Space. A total of 406 papers, comprising 8 randomized controlled trials and 20 prospective studies, were deemed eligible for inclusion. The United States had the highest number of papers (n = 166). The University of California System (n = 24) and Allan C. Halpern (n = 11) were the institution and author with the highest number of papers, respectively. Based on keyword co-occurrence analysis, the studies were categorized into 9 distinct clusters, with clusters 2, 3, and 7 containing keywords with the latest average publication year. Wound progression prediction using machine learning, the integration of AI into teledermatology, and applications of the algorithms in skin diseases, are the current research priorities and will remain future research aims in this field.

RESUMO

Due to the poor bioavailability and high joint clearance of drugs, sustained delivery of therapeutic agents has proven difficult in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). Intra-articular (IA) drug delivery strategy is an attractive option for enhancing OA patients' prognosis, for which various polymer materials have been used as drug carriers due to their attractive delivery properties, to slow or even reverse the progress of OA by prolonging the duration of therapeutic agent residence in the joint. This article focuses on the recent developments in natural and synthetic polymer-based microsphere drug delivery systems for treating knee osteoarthritis. It evaluates the translational potential of some novel formulations for clinical application.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The development of cancer is thought to involve the dynamic crosstalk between the tumor cells and the microenvironment they inhabit. Such crosstalk is thought to involve mechanotransduction, a process whereby the cells sense mechanical cues such as stiffness, and translate these into biochemical signals, which have an impact on the subsequent cellular activities. Bibliometric analysis is a statistical method that involves investigating different aspects (including authors' names and affiliations, article keywords, journals and citations) of large volumes of literature. Despite an increase in mechanotransduction-related research in recent years, there are currently no bibliometric studies that describe the global status and trends of mechanotransduction-related research in the cancer field. AIM: To investigate the global research status and trends of mechanotransduction in cancer from a bibliometric viewpoint. METHODS: Literature on mechanotransduction in cancer published from January 1, 1900 to December 31, 2022 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Excel and GraphPad software carried out the statistical analysis of the relevant author, journal, organization, and country information. The co-authorship, keyword co-occurrence, and keyword burst analysis were visualized with VOSviewer and CiteSpace. RESULTS: Of 597 publications from 745 institutions in 45 countries were published in 268 journals with 35510 citation times. With 270 articles, the United States is a well-established global leader in this field, and the University of California system, the most productive (n = 36) and influential institution (n = 4705 citations), is the most highly active in collaborating with other organizations. Cancers was the most frequent publisher with the highest H-index. The most productive researcher was Valerie M. Weaver, with 10 publications. The combined analysis of concurrent and burst keywords revealed that the future research hotspots of mechanotransduction in cancer were related to the plasma membrane, autophagy, piezo1/2, heterogeneity, cancer diagnosis, and post-transcriptional modifications. CONCLUSION: Mechanotransduction-related cancer research remains a hot topic. The United States is in the leading position of global research on mechano-oncology after almost 30 years of investigations. Research group cooperations exist but remain largely domestic, lacking cross-national communications. The next big topic in this field is to explore how the plasma membrane and its localized mechanosensor can transduce mechanical force through post-transcriptional modifications and thereby participate in cellular activity regulations and cancer development.

RESUMO

Low-cost and high-performance electrocatalysts are crucial for water-splitting reactions. Some non-precious metal electrocatalysts are proved to be good replacements for noble metal due to the unique electronic structure features and excellent performance. In this work, binary Ni-Co-based layered double hydroxide nanoneedle arrays electrocatalysts are synthesized on Ni foam (NF) via a hydrothermal process. The microstructure and the catalytic performance of the catalyst changes significantly by regulating the molar ratio of Ni/Co. The theoretical analysis confirmed that the as-prepared NiCo-LDH nanoneedle arrays reveal a potential behavior in oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at a lower overpotential of 305 mV at 10.0 mA cm-2 and a Tafel slope of 110.38 mV dec-1. The double-layer capacitance (Cdl) is 776 mF cm-2, which indicates that there are many active sites that are exposed on the surface for the electrocatalytic reaction. The results provide an obvious reference value to other types of LDH catalysts for the development of water electrolysis.
