RESUMO

Electrocatalytic nitrate (NO3-) reduction reaction (NO3-RR) represents a promising strategy for both wastewater treatment and ammonia (NH3) synthesis. However, it is difficult to achieve efficient NO3-RR on a single-component catalyst due to NO3-RR involving multiple reaction steps that rely on distinct catalyst properties. Here we report a facile alloying/dealloying-driven phase-separation strategy to construct a bimodal nanoporous Ag/Ag-Co tandem catalyst that exhibits a remarkable NO3-RR performance in a broad NO3- concentration range from 5 to 500 mM. In 10 and 50 mM NO3- electrolytes, the NH3 yield rates reach 3.4 and 25.1 mg h-1 mgcat.-1 with corresponding NH3 Faradaic efficiencies of 94.0% and 97.1%, respectively, outperforming most of the reported catalysts under the same NO3- concentration. The experimental results and density functional theory calculations demonstrate that Ag ligaments preferentially reduce NO3- to NO2-, while bimetallic Ag-Co ligaments catalyze the reduction of NO2- to NH3.

RESUMO

In recent years, zwitterionic polymers have been frequently reported to modify various surfaces to enhance hydrophilicity, antifouling and antibacterial properties, which show significant potentials particularly in biological systems. This review focuses on the fabrication, properties and various applications of zwitterionic polymer grafted surfaces. The "graft-from" and "graft-to" strategies, surface grafting copolymerization and post zwitterionization methods were adopted to graft lots type of the zwitterionic polymers on different inorganic/organic surfaces. The inherent hydrophilicity and salt affinity of the zwitterionic polymers endow the modified surfaces with antifouling, antibacterial and lubricating properties, thus the obtained zwitterionic surfaces show potential applications in biosystems. The zwitterionic polymer grafted membranes or stationary phases can effectively separate plasma, water/oil, ions, biomolecules and polar substrates. The nanomedicines with zwitterionic polymer shells have "stealth" effect in the delivery of encapsulated drugs, siRNA or therapeutic proteins. Moreover, the zwitterionic surfaces can be utilized as wound dressing, self-healing or oil extraction materials. The zwitterionic surfaces are expected as excellent support materials for biosensors, they are facing the severe challenges in the surface protection of marine facilities, and the dense ion pair layers may take unexpected role in shielding the grafted surfaces from strong electromagnetic field.

RESUMO

Three-dimensional nitrogen-doped carbon network incorporated with nickel@nickel oxide core-shell nanoparticles composite (3D NC/Ni@NiO) has been facilely prepared, self-templated by the cross-linked polyacrylamide aerogel precursor containing NiCl2. Characterizations reveal that the Ni@NiO nanoparticles distribute homogeneously in the 3D nitrogen-doped carbon matrix and the composite is of hierarchical porous structure. When used as supercapacitor electrode in a three-electrode system, the 3D NC/Ni@NiO exhibits enhanced electrical conductivity and excellent electrochemical performance, presenting a high specific capacitance (389F g-1 at 5 mV s-1), good rate capability (276 F g-1 at 100 mV s-1) and outstanding cycling performance (with the capacitance retention of 70.2% after 5000 charge-discharge cycles). This is due to the synergistic effects of conductive metallic nickel, pseudocapacitive nickel oxide as well as in situ nitrogen doping of carbon network. Moreover, an asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) was fabricated with NC/Ni@NiO as positive electrode and active carbon as negative electrode. The ASC device exhibits a maximum energy density of 19.4 W h kg-1 at a power density of 700 W kg-1 and shows good cycling stability (73.8% capacity retention after 3000 cycles), indicating that it has great promise for practical energy storage and conversion application.
