OBJECTIVES: This study examines the sociodemographic differences between elective and nonelective admissions for failure to thrive (FTT). We investigate associations between admission type and hospital resource utilization, including length of stay and feeding tube placement. METHODS: We included children <2 years old with FTT in the nationwide Kids' Inpatient Database. We described differences between elective and nonelective admissions using Fisher exact and t tests. To assess associations of admission type and hospital resource utilization, we used negative binomial and logistic regression for length of stay and feeding tube placement, respectively. RESULTS: In this study of 45,920 admissions (37,224 nonelective vs 8696 elective), we found differences by race and ethnicity, income, and insurance type, among other factors. Compared to elective admissions, nonelective admissions had higher proportions of infants who were Black, Hispanic, and of lower-income. Nonelective admissions were associated with longer lengths of stay (incidence rate ratio 1.46; 95% CI: 1.37-1.55), independent of child age, sex, neighborhood income, insurance, admission day, chronic conditions, and location. Nonelective admissions were associated with lower odds of feeding tube placement compared to elective admissions (adjusted odds ratio 0.62; 0.56-0.68). In the stratified analyses, children of racial and ethnic minority groups admitted nonelectively versus electively had relatively higher odds of feeding tube placement, while White children had relatively lower odds of feeding tube placement. CONCLUSION: There are various sociodemographic differences between elective and nonelective FTT admissions. Future research is warranted to elucidate drivers of these differences, particularly those related to racial and ethnic disparities and structural racism.

Food insecurity and obesity coexist among children and families. We examined the association between receipt of plant-based family food packages from the Massachusetts General Hospital Revere Food Pantry and change in body mass index (BMI), adjusted for age and sex, among children during the COVID-19 pandemic. Among 35 children aged 2 to 18 years who received the packages between January 2021 and February 2022, we observed a change in BMI of -0.04 kg/m2 (95% CI, -0.08 kg/m2 to -0.01 kg/m2) for each package received. Our results suggest plant-based food packages might mitigate, and potentially reverse, BMI increase in children in households seeking food assistance.

We studied healthy infant feeding practices among 308 mother-infant pairs, including exclusive breastmilk, satiety cues, complementary food introduction, sugary beverage intake, and bottle use in bed. We examined associations of individual and cumulative infant feeding practices through 12 months of age with body mass index (BMI) z -score at 2 years. Exclusive breastmilk and avoidance of bottle use in bed were associated with lower BMI z -score (ß -0.29 units; 95% CI, -0.56, -0.02 units and ß -0.32 units; 95% CI, -0.57, -0.07, respectively), when accounting for maternal pre-pregnancy BMI, household income, infant sex, race, and ethnicity. Adherence to 4--5 practices, compared to ≤ 2 practices, was associated with lower BMI z -score (ß -0.84 units; 95% CI, -1.35, -0.34 units). Adherence to healthy infant feeding practices may reduce risk of excessive adiposity in early childhood. Targeting multiple infant feeding practices may be a more effective way to prevent childhood adiposity.

INTRODUCTION: This study aims to analyse the non-tax-induced price increasing strategies adopted by tobacco industry in Taiwan, a high-income country with comprehensive tobacco control policies but low tobacco taxes and a declining cigarette market. METHODS: Using governmental tax, price and inflation data, we analysed cigarette sales volume, affordability, affordability elasticity of demand, market share, pricing and net revenue of the top five tobacco companies in Taiwan from 2011 to 2016 when no tax increases occurred. RESULTS: Total revenue after tax grew significantly for all the major transnational tobacco companies between 2011 and 2016 at the expense of the state-owned Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation. In terms of market share, Japan Tobacco (JT) was the leading company, despite experiencing a small decline, while British American Tobacco and Imperial Brands remained stable, and Philip Morris International increased from 4.7% to 7.0%. JT adopted the most effective pricing strategy by increasing the real price of its two most popular brands (Mevius and Mi-Ne) and, at the same time, doubling the sales of its cheaper and less popular brand Winston by leaving its nominal retail price unaltered. CONCLUSIONS: Low and unchanged tobacco taxes enable tobacco companies to use aggressive pricing and segmentation strategies to increase the real price of cigarettes without making them less affordable while simultaneously maintaining customers' loyalty. It is crucial to continue monitoring the industry's pricing strategies and to regularly increase taxes to promote public health and to prevent tobacco industry from profiting at the expense of government revenues.

The MED-1,2 GATA factors contribute to specification of E, the progenitor of the Caenorhabditis elegans endoderm, through the genes end-1 and end-3, and in parallel with the maternal factors SKN-1, POP-1 and PAL-1. END-1,3 activate elt-2 and elt-7 to initiate a program of intestinal development, which is maintained by positive autoregulation. Here, we advance the understanding of MED-1,2 in E specification. We find that expression of end-1 and end-3 is greatly reduced in med-1,2(-) embryos. We generated strains in which MED sites have been mutated in end-1 and end-3. Without MED input, gut specification relies primarily on POP-1 and PAL-1. 25% of embryos fail to make intestine, while those that do display abnormal numbers of gut cells due to a delayed and stochastic acquisition of intestine fate. Surviving adults exhibit phenotypes consistent with a primary defect in the intestine. Our results establish that MED-1,2 provide robustness to endoderm specification through end-1 and end-3, and reveal that gut differentiation may be more directly linked to specification than previously appreciated. The results argue against an "all-or-none" description of cell specification, and suggest that activation of tissue-specific master regulators, even when expression of these is maintained by positive autoregulation, does not guarantee proper function of differentiated cells.

BACKGROUND: Venous and lymphatic malformations of the head and neck can be successfully treated with percutaneous sclerotherapy. PURPOSE: To examine the utility of three-dimensional volumetric analysis to assess these lesions and their response to therapy. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Prospectively maintained procedure records were retrospectively reviewed to identify all patients with vascular malformations who underwent percutaneous sclerotherapy. Clinical data were used to classify lesions by apparent size and degree of visible physical asymmetry due to the lesions. Lesion volume was calculated using magnetic resonance images. Cohen's weighted kappa coefficients were calculated to assess both intra- and inter-rater agreement. Pearson coefficients were calculated to identify correlation between clinical and volumetric measures, both at initial diagnosis and following treatment. RESULTS: Thirty-seven patients with head and neck venous or lymphatic malformations underwent 55 treatment sessions. Cohen's weighted kappa coefficients were 0.84 and 0.77 for intra- and inter-rater agreement, respectively. Clinical size did not significantly correlate with measured volume at diagnosis (ρ = 0.08, P = 0.57). For lymphatic malformations, total lesion volume correlated with volume of macrocystic components (ρ = 0.47, P < 0.01). Total volume reduction significantly correlated with clinical response grade (ρ = 0.46, P = 0.02). For lymphatic malformations, reduction of volume of the macrocystic component significantly correlated with clinical response grade (ρ = 0.44, P = 0.03). CONCLUSION: Changes in calculated volume corresponded to clinical measures of treatment response. Variability of qualitative approaches to lesion analysis may have led to the lack of correlation between initial size of a lesion based on clinical measures and calculated volume. Future research should include quantitative metrics to augment qualitative clinical results.

BACKGROUND: Recent techniques for tagging and visualizing single molecules in fixed or living organisms and cell lines have been revolutionizing our understanding of the spatial and temporal dynamics of fundamental biological processes. However, fluorescence microscopy images are often noisy, and it can be difficult to distinguish a fluorescently labeled single molecule from background speckle. RESULTS: We present a computational pipeline to distinguish the true signal of fluorescently labeled molecules from background fluorescence and noise. We test our technique using the challenging case of wide-field, epifluorescence microscope image stacks from single molecule fluorescence in situ experiments on nematode embryos where there can be substantial out-of-focus light and structured noise. The software recognizes and classifies individual mRNA spots by measuring several features of local intensity maxima and classifying them with a supervised random forest classifier. A key innovation of this software is that, by estimating the probability that each local maximum is a true spot in a statistically principled way, it makes it possible to estimate the error introduced by image classification. This can be used to assess the quality of the data and to estimate a confidence interval for the molecule count estimate, all of which are important for quantitative interpretations of the results of single-molecule experiments. CONCLUSIONS: The software classifies spots in these images well, with >95% AUROC on realistic artificial data and outperforms other commonly used techniques on challenging real data. Its interval estimates provide a unique measure of the quality of an image and confidence in the classification.

UNLABELLED: Biliary atresia (BA), the most common cause of end-stage liver disease and the leading indication for pediatric liver transplantation, is associated with intrahepatic ductular reactions within regions of rapidly expanding periportal biliary fibrosis. Whereas the extent of such biliary fibrosis is a negative predictor of long-term transplant-free survival, the cellular phenotypes involved in the fibrosis are not well established. Using a rhesus rotavirus-induced mouse model of BA, we demonstrate significant expansion of a cell population expressing the putative stem/progenitor cell marker, PROMININ-1 (PROM1), adjacent to ductular reactions within regions of periportal fibrosis. PROM1positive (pos) cells express Collagen-1α1. Subsets of PROM1pos cells coexpress progenitor cell marker CD49f, epithelial marker E-CADHERIN, biliary marker CYTOKERATIN-19, and mesenchymal markers VIMENTIN and alpha-SMOOTH MUSCLE ACTIN (αSMA). Expansion of the PROM1pos cell population is associated with activation of Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF) and Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGFß) signaling. In vitro cotreatment of PROM1-expressing Mat1a-/- hepatic progenitor cells with recombinant human FGF10 and TGFß1 promotes morphologic transformation toward a myofibroblastic cell phenotype with increased expression of myofibroblastic genes Collagen-1α1, Fibronectin, and α-Sma. Infants with BA demonstrate similar expansion of periportal PROM1pos cells with activated Mothers Against Decapentaplegic Homolog 3 (SMAD3) signaling in association with increased hepatic expression of FGF10, FGFR1, and FGFR2 as well as mesenchymal genes SLUG and SNAIL. Infants with perinatal subtype of BA have higher tissue levels of PROM1 expression than those with embryonic subtype. CONCLUSION: Expansion of collagen-producing PROM1pos cells within regions of periportal fibrosis is associated with activated FGF and TGFß pathways in both experimental and human BA. PROM1pos cells may therefore play an important role in the biliary fibrosis of BA.

BACKGROUND: Food and nutrition security interventions have been demonstrated to optimize health, prevent and treat chronic diseases among adult populations. Despite the increasing prevalence and intersection of food insecurity and childhood obesity in the United States, there are few food and nutrition security interventions targeted to children and families. OBJECTIVES: The primary purpose of this phase I randomized, crossover trial was to assess the safety, acceptability and satisfaction of a meal kit delivery program among children with obesity living in households with food insecurity. Secondarily, we assessed the feasibility of our study design, recruitment and retention to inform future larger scale trials. METHODS: We delivered 6 weeks of healthy meal kits, which included fresh pre-portioned ingredients and simple picture-based recipes (two recipes/week) in English or Spanish to prepare one-pot, under 30-min meals (after preparation ~ 10 servings/week). RESULTS: Caregivers received and prepared the meal kits and reported overall satisfaction with the meal kit delivery program. CONCLUSION: A meal kit delivery intervention for children with obesity and food insecurity is acceptable and a phase I randomized, crossover trial is feasible.

BACKGROUND: Limited access to healthy foods, resulting from residence in neighborhoods with low-food access or from household food insecurity, is a public health concern. Contributions of these measures during pregnancy to birth outcomes remain understudied. OBJECTIVES: We examined associations between neighborhood food access and individual food insecurity during pregnancy with birth outcomes. METHODS: We used data from 53 cohorts participating in the nationwide Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes-Wide Cohort Study. Participant inclusion required a geocoded residential address or response to a food insecurity question during pregnancy and information on birth outcomes. Exposures include low-income-low-food-access (LILA, where the nearest supermarket is >0.5 miles for urban or >10 miles for rural areas) or low-income-low-vehicle-access (LILV, where few households have a vehicle and >0.5 miles from the nearest supermarket) neighborhoods and individual food insecurity. Mixed-effects models estimated associations with birth outcomes, adjusting for socioeconomic and pregnancy characteristics. RESULTS: Among 22,206 pregnant participants (mean age 30.4 y) with neighborhood food access data, 24.1% resided in LILA neighborhoods and 13.6% in LILV neighborhoods. Of 1630 pregnant participants with individual-level food insecurity data (mean age 29.7 y), 8.0% experienced food insecurity. Residence in LILA (compared with non-LILA) neighborhoods was associated with lower birth weight [ß -44.3 g; 95% confidence interval (CI): -62.9, -25.6], lower birth weight-for-gestational-age z-score (-0.09 SD units; -0.12, -0.05), higher odds of small-for-gestational-age [odds ratio (OR) 1.15; 95% CI: 1.00, 1.33], and lower odds of large-for-gestational-age (0.85; 95% CI: 0.77, 0.94). Similar findings were observed for residence in LILV neighborhoods. No associations of individual food insecurity with birth outcomes were observed. CONCLUSIONS: Residence in LILA or LILV neighborhoods during pregnancy is associated with adverse birth outcomes. These findings highlight the need for future studies examining whether investing in neighborhood resources to improve food access during pregnancy would promote equitable birth outcomes.

Importance: Limited access to healthy foods, resulting from residence in neighborhoods with low food access, is a public health concern. The contribution of this exposure in early life to child obesity remains uncertain. Objective: To examine associations of neighborhood food access during pregnancy or early childhood with child body mass index (BMI) and obesity risk. Design, Setting, and Participants: Data from cohorts participating in the US nationwide Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes consortium between January 1, 1994, and March 31, 2023, were used. Participant inclusion required a geocoded residential address in pregnancy (mean 32.4 gestational weeks) or early childhood (mean 4.3 years) and information on child BMI. Exposures: Residence in low-income, low-food access neighborhoods, defined as low-income neighborhoods where the nearest supermarket is more than 0.5 miles for urban areas or more than 10 miles for rural areas. Main Outcomes and Measures: BMI z score, obesity (age- and sex-specific BMI ≥95th percentile), and severe obesity (age- and sex-specific BMI ≥120% of the 95th percentile) from age 0 to 15 years. Results: Of 28 359 children (55 cohorts; 14 657 [51.7%] male and 13 702 [48.3%] female; 590 [2.2%] American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or Other Pacific Islander; 1430 [5.4%] Asian; 4034 [15.3%] Black; 17 730 [67.2%] White; and 2592 [9.8%] other [unspecified] or more than 1 race; 5754 [20.9%] Hispanic and 21 838 [79.1%] non-Hispanic) with neighborhood food access data, 23.2% resided in low-income, low-food access neighborhoods in pregnancy and 24.4% in early childhood. After adjusting for individual sociodemographic characteristics, residence in low-income, low-food access (vs non-low-income, low-food access) neighborhoods in pregnancy was associated with higher BMI z scores at ages 5 years (ß, 0.07; 95% CI, 0.03-0.11), 10 years (ß, 0.11; 95% CI, 0.06-0.17), and 15 years (ß, 0.16; 95% CI, 0.07-0.24); higher obesity risk at 5 years (risk ratio [RR], 1.37; 95% CI, 1.21-1.55), 10 years (RR, 1.71; 95% CI, 1.37-2.12), and 15 years (RR, 2.08; 95% CI, 1.53-2.83); and higher severe obesity risk at 5 years (RR, 1.21; 95% CI, 0.95-1.53), 10 years (RR, 1.54; 95% CI, 1.20-1.99), and 15 years (RR, 1.92; 95% CI, 1.32-2.80). Findings were similar for residence in low-income, low-food access neighborhoods in early childhood. These associations were robust to alternative definitions of low income and low food access and additional adjustment for prenatal characteristics associated with child obesity. Conclusions: Residence in low-income, low-food access neighborhoods in early life was associated with higher subsequent child BMI and higher risk of obesity and severe obesity. We encourage future studies to examine whether investments in neighborhood resources to improve food access in early life would prevent child obesity.

Obesity is prevalent and continuing to rise across all age groups, even children. As obesity is challenging to manage and treat, prevention is critical. Here, we highlight nutritional influences during periods of early developmental plasticity, namely the prenatal period and infancy, that have been shown to contribute to the development of obesity into childhood and beyond. We review recent research that examines maternal nutritional factors including dietary patterns and quality, as well as the infant diet, such as complementary foods and beverages, that influence long-term obesity risk. We end with recommendations for clinicians.

INTRODUCTION: Despite widespread recognition among public health experts that childhood sugar-sweetened beverage consumption should be reduced, doing so has proven to be a challenge. An agent-based model of early childhood sugar-sweetened beverage consumption was applied to data from three high-quality, longitudinal cohort studies to gain insight into potentially effective intervention strategies across contexts. METHODS: From 2021 to 2023, a single agent-based model design was applied to data sets derived from three separate cohorts of children followed from infancy to childhood, with very different populations and environments (participants recruited in 1999-2002; 2003-2010; and 2009-2014). After assessing its ability to reproduce observed consumption patterns across cohorts, it was used to simulate potential impacts of multiple intervention strategies across contexts. RESULTS: Interventions reducing home availability of sugar-sweetened beverages consistently had the largest potential effects. Impact differed between cohort settings: a complete decrease in availability resulted in an estimated 87% decrease in overall early childhood consumption for one of the cohorts, compared with 61% and 54% in the others. Reducing availability in center-based child care resulted in substantially greater reduction in one cohort relative to the other two. CONCLUSIONS: There is untapped potential for strategies targeting children's sugar-sweetened beverage consumption in the home, but in some instances, other approaches might also yield meaningful effects. Tailoring approach to setting may be important, and agent-based models can be informative for doing so. This agent-based model has broad generalizability and potential to serve as a tool for designing effective, context-specific strategies to reduce childhood sugar-sweetened beverage consumption.

IMPORTANCE: As smoking continues to decline in many developed countries, the proportion of lung cancers in nonsmokers will rise. This shift may create substantial pressure to further expand lung cancer screening to lower-risk groups. OBJECTIVE: To determine the association of lung cancer incidence with the promotion of screening in a largely nonsmoking population. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This population-based ecological cohort study of stage-specific lung cancer incidence used the Taiwan Cancer Registry to identify women diagnosed with lung cancer from January 1, 2004, to December 31, 2018. Smoking prevalence among Taiwanese women has been less than 5% since 1980. Data were analyzed from February 13, 2020, to November 10, 2021. EXPOSURES: Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening for lung cancer, initiated during the early 2000s. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: Change in stage-specific lung cancer incidence. An effective cancer screening program will not only increase the incidence of early-stage cancer but also decrease the incidence of cancer presenting at a late stage. RESULTS: A total of 57 898 women were diagnosed with lung cancer in a population of approximately 12 million Taiwanese women. After the introduction of LDCT screening, the incidence of early-stage (stages 0-I) lung cancer in women increased more than 6-fold, from 2.3 to 14.4 per 100 000 population (absolute difference, 12.1 [95% CI, 11.3-12.8]) from 2004 to 2018. There was no change, however, in the incidence of late-stage (stages II-IV) lung cancer, from 18.7 to 19.3 per 100 000 (absolute difference, 0.6 [95% CI, -0.5 to 1.7]). Because the additional 12.1 per 100 000 early-stage cancers were not accompanied by a concomitant decline in late-stage cancers, virtually all the additional cancers detected represent overdiagnosis. Despite stable mortality, 5-year survival more than doubled from 2004 to 2013, from 18% to 40%, which is arguably the highest lung cancer survival rate in the world. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: This population-based ecological cohort study found that low-dose computed tomographic screening of mostly nonsmoking Asian women was associated with considerable lung cancer overdiagnosis. Five-year survival is biased by the increased LDCT detection of indolent early-stage lung cancers. Unless randomized trials can demonstrate some value to low-risk groups, LDCT screening should remain targeted only to heavy smokers.

RESUMO

This piece features a 14-year-old young man who presented with epigastric pain and bright red emesis. His father brought both a photo and sample of the vomitus, which guided initial management in one direction, and then on closer inspection, diverted his diagnostic trajectory. Through a traditional case report and accompanied image and prose, we explore how we process and reinterpret visual data to help guide our management of hematemesis.

BACKGROUND: A strong body of evidence links young children's intake of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) with myriad negative outcomes. OBJECTIVES: Our research provides insight into whether and to what extent potential intervention strategies can reduce young children's consumption of SSBs. METHODS: We built an agent-based model (ABM) of SSB consumption representing participants in the Project Viva longitudinal study between ages 2 and 7 y. In addition to extensive data from Project Viva, our model used nationally representative data as well as recent, high-quality literature. We tested the explanatory power of the model through comparison to consumption patterns observed in the Project Viva cohort. Then, we applied the model to simulate the potential impact of interventions that would reduce SSB availability in 1 or more settings or affect how families receive and respond to pediatrician advice. RESULTS: Our model produced age-stratified trends in beverage consumption that closely match those observed in Project Viva cohort data. Among the potential interventions we simulated, reducing availability in the home-where young children spend the greatest amount of time-resulted in the largest consumption decrease. Removing access to all SSBs in the home resulted in them consuming 1.23 (95% CI: 1.21, 1.24) fewer servings of SSBs per week on average between the ages of 2 and 7 y, a reduction of ∼60%. By comparison, removing all SSB availability outside of the home (i.e., in schools and childcare) had a smaller impact (0.77; CI: 0.75, 0.78), a reduction of ∼40%. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that interventions reducing SSB availability in the home would have the strongest effects on SSB consumption.

Environmental factors play an important role in the development and exacerbation of allergic rhinitis (AR) in childhood. Indoor air pollution, such as house dust mites and secondhand smoke, can significantly increase the onset of AR, while pet dander may affect the exacerbation of AR symptoms in children. Furthermore, traffic related air pollution and pollen are outdoor air pollutants that can affect immune competency and airway responsiveness, increasing the risk of AR in children. Climate change has increased AR in children, as growth patterns of allergenic species have changed, resulting in longer pollen seasons. More extreme and frequent weather events also contribute to the deterioration of indoor air quality due to climate change. Additionally, viruses provoke respiratory tract infections, worsening the symptoms of AR, while viral infections alter the immune system. Although viruses and pollution influence development and exacerbation of AR, a variety of treatment and prevention options are available for AR patients. The protective influence of vegetation (greenness) is heavily associated with air pollution mitigation, relieving AR exacerbations, while the use of air filters can reduce allergic triggers. Oral antihistamines and intranasal corticosteroids are common pharmacotherapy for AR symptoms. In this review, we discuss the environmental risk factors for AR and summarize treatment strategies for preventing and managing AR in children.

BACKGROUND: Increased visceral adipose tissue (VAT) precedes development of insulin resistance and dyslipidemia in adults. The associations of abdominal adiposity derived from dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), including VAT, subcutaneous abdominal adipose tissue (SAAT) and total abdominal adipose tissue (TAAT) with cardio-metabolic risk in adolescents are understudied. OBJECTIVES: We examined the cross-sectional associations of DXA-measured abdominal adiposity with cardio-metabolic risk and related markers in early adolescence (mean [SD] age 13.0 [0.7] years). METHODS: We collected data from 740 adolescents (374 girls and 366 boys) in Project Viva, a U.S. pre-birth cohort. We used DXA estimates of VAT, SAAT and TAAT area. We conducted overall and sex-stratified linear regression models, adjusting for age, sex (in overall models), race/ethnicity, puberty score and body mass index (BMI) z-score. RESULTS: Mean BMI z-score was 0.59 (1.28). After adjustment, greater VAT (per 1 SD score) was associated with higher metabolic risk z-score (ß 0.14 units; 95% CI 0.08, 0.20), higher log high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (ß 0.51 mg/L; 0.36, 0.66) and log leptin (ß 0.36 ng/mL; 0.27, 0.44), and lower log adiponectin (ß -0.08 ug/mL; -0.13, -0.02). SAAT and TAAT showed similar associations as VAT with comparable or greater effect sizes. CONCLUSION: In early adolescence, DXA-measured VAT, SAAT and TAAT are associated with cardio-metabolic risk and related markers, independent of current BMI. Among two adolescents with the same BMI, there is an associated higher cardio-metabolic risk in the adolescent with greater DXA-measured abdominal adiposity.

RESUMO

Acute injuries to the shoulder girdle are common and frequently encountered by the practicing radiologist. The type of injury is highly dependent on the age of the patient and mechanism of trauma with injuries occurring at the site of greatest mechanical weakness. In this review, we discuss the main clinical features and key imaging findings for the most common shoulder injuries. For each injury, we also provide a section on the important features that the orthopedic surgeon needs to know in order to guide surgical versus nonsurgical management.
