RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To identify the patterns and influencing factors of oral health service utilization among college students, and further to provide scientific evidence for policy making on oral health education and behavioral interventions for the college population. METHODS: The study population was college students in Southern China. Totally 678 students participated in the survey. A self-designed questionnaire based on Anderson's model (predisposing factors, enabling factors, need factors) was used to survey college students. Descriptive statistics, χ2 test, and logistic regression were used to analyze influence factors of oral health service utilization among college students. RESULTS: The utilization rate of oral health service in the past 12 months was 30.2%. The primary type of oral health service was treatment (59.6%), and only 12.8% were for prevention. There were 39% of the participants having oral health diseases, of which dental caries (25.7%) and oral bleeding (22.2%) were the main problems. The results from logistic regression analysis revealed that students with better beliefs (OR = 1.84, 95% CI:=1.02-3.43), frequent consumption of sugary drinks (OR = 2.90, 95% CI:=1.90-4.47), teeth brushing frequency > = 2 times per day (OR = 2.09, 95% CI = 1.24-3.61), frequent floss utilization (OR = 2.63, 95% CI = 1.21-5.76), dental caries (OR = 2.07, 95% CI = 1.35-3.17) used oral health services higher, while those lived in rural areas (OR:0.52, 95% CI = 0.34-0.80), and had only a fair concern (OR = 0.48, 95% CI = 0.31-0.74) or no concern (OR = 0.26, 95% CI = 0.08-0.67) on oral health utilized oral health services lower. CONCLUSIONS: Chinese college students demonstrate some knowledge and attitudes towards oral health. However, they tend to neglect oral hygiene and have limited understanding of their own oral issues. Furthermore, the utilization of oral services, such as treatment, remains remarkably low, despite the availability of long-term and favorable health insurance policies. The utilization of oral health services among college students is influenced by various factors, including residing in rural areas, consuming sugary beverages on a daily basis, brushing teeth at least twice a day, and practicing flossing.

RESUMO

SHH subgroup medulloblastoma (SHH-MB) is one of the most common malignant pediatric tumors that arises in the cerebellum. Previously, we showed that RNA m6A methylation participates in regulation of cerebellar development. Here we investigate whether dysregulated m6A methylation contributes to tumorigenesis of SHH-MB. We show that high expression of m6A methyltransferase METTL3 associates with worse survival in the patients with SHH-MB. A large number of hypermethylated transcripts are identified in SHH-MB tumor cells by m6A-seq. We find that METTL3 promotes tumor progression via activating Sonic hedgehog signaling. Mechanistically, METTL3 methylates PTCH1 and GLI2 RNAs and further regulates their RNA stability and translation. Importantly, targeting METTL3 by depleting METTL3 expression or treatment with its catalytic inhibitor STM2457 restrains tumor progression. Collectively, this study shows a critical function for METTL3 and m6A methylation in SHH-MB, indicative of a potential role of METTL3 as therapeutic target in SHH-MB.

RESUMO

Ni2P has been decorated on CdS nanowires or nanorods for efficient photocatalytic H2 production, whereas the specific surface area remains limited because of the large size. Here, the composites of Cd0.5Zn0.5S quantum dots (QDs) on thin Ni2P porous nanosheets with high specific surface area were constructed for noble metal-free photocatalytic H2 generation. The porous Ni2P nanosheets, which were formed by the interconnection of 15-30 nm-sized Ni2P nanoparticles, allowed the uniform loading of 7 nm-sized Cd0.5Zn0.5S QDs and the loading density being controllable. By tuning the content of Ni2P, H2 generation rates of 43.3 µM h- 1 (1 mg photocatalyst) and 700 µM h- 1 (100 mg photocatalyst) and a solar to hydrogen efficiency of 1.5% were achieved for the Ni2P-Cd0.5Zn0.5S composites. The effect of Ni2P content on the light absorption, photoluminescence, and electrochemical property of the composite was systematically studied. Together with the band structure calculation based on density functional theory, the promotion of Ni2P in charge transfer and HER activity together with the shading effect on light absorption were revealed. Such a strategy can be applied to other photocatalysts toward efficient solar hydrogen generation.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional metallic transition metal dichalcogenides are emerging as prototypes for uncovering fundamental physical phenomena, such as superconductivity and charge-density waves, as well as for engineering-related applications. However, the batch production of such envisioned transition metal dichalcogenides remains challenging, which has hindered the aforementioned explorations. Herein, we fabricate thickness-tunable tantalum disulfide flakes and centimetre-sized ultrathin films on an electrode material of gold foil via a facile chemical vapour deposition route. Through temperature-dependent Raman characterization, we observe the transition from nearly commensurate to commensurate charge-density wave phases with our ultrathin tantalum disulfide flakes. We have obtained high hydrogen evolution reaction efficiency with the as-grown tantalum disulfide flakes directly synthesized on gold foils comparable to traditional platinum catalysts. This work could promote further efforts for exploring new efficient catalysts in the large materials family of metallic transition metal dichalcogenides, as well as exploiting their applications towards more versatile applications.Metallic transition metal dichalcogenides are important materials for catalysis, but scalable and controllable preparation methods are scarce. Here, the authors synthesize 2H-TaS2 as centimetre-scale films of tunable thickness and show they are an efficient catalyst for hydrogen evolution.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of the present study was to assess the frequency and severity of female sexual dysfunction (FSD) in those with T2D (T2D) compared with non-diabetic controls. In addition, risk factors for FSD were analyzed. METHODS: Sexual dysfunction, measured using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), was evaluated using a questionnaire in 184 women with T2D and 146 non-diabetic controls at three study sites in China. In the T2D group, FSD was examined by education level, correlations between FSD and other variables were analyzed, and risk factors were studied. RESULTS: The frequency of FSD in the T2D group was 75.0%, much higher than in the control group (56.2%; P = 0.001). The severity of FSD in the T2D group was 17.84 ± 8.47 (mean ± SD), significantly lower than in the control group (21.14 ± 8.08; P = 0.001). In patients with T2D, being older (P = 0.001), taking oral antidiabetic medications (P = 0.013), and having diabetic neuropathy (P = 0.036) were risk factors for FSD. CONCLUSIONS: The rate of FSD is high in China and, as seen in the literature, more severe in diabetics than non-diabetics. Being older, taking oral antidiabetic medications, and diabetic neuropathy are risk factors for FSD.
