OBJECTIVE: To study allergens and their relationship to the occurrence of childhood bronchial asthma in the Jiading District of Shanghai. METHODS: Three hundred and eighty-two 4 to 12-year-old children with asthma in the remission stage from Nanxiang Hospital in the Jiading District of Shanghai were used as a case group (asthma group), and 402 children from two primary schools and two kindergartens in Jiading were enrolled by cluster sampling and served as control group. Parents of the children completed a questionnaire on living conditions and allergy-related disease history. Skin prick test (SPT) for 18 common allergens was carried out in both groups. In order to examine the effect of environment and living conditions on SPT results, children in the control group were further divided into two sub-groups according to birth place: migrant (219 cases) and resident (183 cases). RESULTS: SPT results revealed that the main allergens identified in the Jiading region were dermatophagoides farinae, house dust mites, shrimps, cockroaches, and dog hair. The SPT positive rate was 67.9% in the asthma group, and this was significantly higher than in the control group (31.8%) (P<0.01). The environment and living conditions in the migrant group were significantly different from the resident group (P<0.01), whereas the SPT positive rate for this group was significantly lower than in the resident group (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Allergens in the Jiading region mainly originate from dermatophagoides farinae, household dust mites, shrimps, cockroaches and dog hair. Children with asthma are more susceptible to allergens. Environment and living conditions may be relevant, to a certain extent, to an SPT positive rate.

RESUMO

Background: This study aimed to investigate the superiority of nab-paclitaxel plus S-1 (AS) over oxaliplatin plus S-1 (SOX) in patients with advanced gastric cancer (AGC). Methods: In this multicenter, randomized, phase III superiority trial, eligible patients with unresectable, locally advanced gastric adenocarcinoma were recruited and randomly assigned (1:1) to receive AS (nab-paclitaxel 260 mg/m2 on day 1 or 130 mg/m2 on days 1 and 8; oral S-1 40-60 mg twice daily for 14 days) or SOX (130 mg/m2 oxaliplatin on day 1; oral S-1 40-60 mg twice daily for 14 days) every 3 weeks for up to six cycles. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS), and the secondary endpoints were overall survival, objective response rate, and safety. Results: Owing to slow enrolment, an unplanned interim analysis was performed, resulting in the early termination of the study on 31 December 2021 (data cutoff). Between March 2019 and March 2021, 97 patients (AS, n = 48; SOX, n = 49) were treated and evaluated for efficacy and safety of AS and SOX. As of the data cutoff, the median follow-up was 23.13 months [95% confidence interval (CI), 13.39-32.87]. The median PFS was 9.03 months (95% CI, 6.50-11.56) in the AS group and 5.07 months (95% CI, 4.33-5.81) in the SOX group, demonstrating a better PFS tendency following AS treatment than SOX treatment (hazard ratio = 0.59; 95% CI, 0.37-0.94; p = 0.03). The most common grade 3 or worse adverse events were anemia, neutropenia, and leukopenia in both groups, with a higher incidence of thrombocytopenia in the SOX group. Conclusion: Although this study was terminated early, the results demonstrated a better PFS tendency in patients with AGC who were treated with AS than in those treated with SOX, with controllable toxicities. Stormwater runoff pollution occurring in urban areas can be a notable threat to the ecological environments of receiving water bodies. Dissolved organic matter (DOM) constitutes the primary type of pollutant in stormwater runoff, and tracking of its components and sources can provide valuable scientific bases for the future abatement of stormwater runoff pollution. In this study, aiming to demonstrate the characteristics and sources of the contained DOM in both pavement runoff (PR) and greenland runoff (GR), we applied ultra-high-resolution Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS) to analyze the molecular chemo-diversity of their DOM, as well as Spearman rank correlations between the molecular chemo-diversity and water quality indicators including suspended solids (SS), total nitrogen (TN), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and dissolved lead (Pb). The results show:① When the molecular accumulation reaches a saturated state, the cumulative number of molecules of PR-DOM (12498) is much larger than that of GR-DOM (7015). The molecular distribution of PR-DOM (150-750) is smaller yet more concentrated than that of GR-DOM (150-850). ② According to the molecular composition characterization and Spearman rank correlation analysis, the sources of the components of PR-DOM and GR-DOM are remarkably different. PR-DOM can be greatly influenced by human activities, and its primary element component (CHOS) contains a large number of substances that were recognized to be from the surfactant sulfonic acid. Additionally, the significant aliphatic components that emerged were from traffic pollution. In contrast, GR-DOM is less affected by human activities, and its primary element component (CHO) gives priority to natural organic matter (NOM). The most abundant substance component that occurred in GR-DOM, i.e., the highly unsaturated and phenolic compound that generally originates in the degraded humus, is initially formed by the plant residue and flushed by rainfall runoff.
