Intestinal helminths of the white stork (Ciconia ciconia Linnaeus 1758) from an inter-route site in Turkey.

In Turkey, a study was conducted during the years 2009-2015 to detect the gastrointestinal helminth species of 18 white storks (Ciconia ciconia Linnaeus, 1758 (Aves: Ciconiiformes) sampled from aquatic or swamp areas of Bursa Province, one of the inter-route sites where storks intensely stay. The results of postmortem examination revealed that 17 (94.44%) white storks harboured one or more helminth species. Eight species of helminths were detected at the following prevalence rates: Dictymetra discoidea (38.88%), Chaunocephalus ferox (37.50%), Schistocephalus solidus (27.77%), Stephanoprora (Monilifer) spinulosa (18.75%), Echinoparyphium sp. (12.50%), Tylodelphys excavata (6.25%), T. clavata (6.25%), and Syncuaria ciconiae (6.25%). This study is the first report on the presence of all the above species except T. excavata from white storks in Turkey. Stephanoprora (M.) spinulosa was found in Ciconiiform birds for the first time in this study.

Mites and Ticks (Acari) of Bats (Chiroptera) collected from Bursa and Kütahya Provinces, North-Western of Türkiye.

Objective: A total of 357 specimens belonging to nineteen species of bats collected from Bursa and Kütahya Provinces, Türkiye, were examined for mite ectoparasites. Methods: Related bat species were collected and studied about ectoparasitologically. For this purpose stereo and light microscopic methods used. Bat species, bat number, acari species, acari number and their gender, infected numbers were determined. Results: The bats were found to harbour nine acarid species: Eyndhovenia euryalis, E. myoti, Steatonyssus noctulus, Steatonyssus sp., Ixodes vespertilionis, Dermanyssus sp., Ornithonyssus desultarius, Anchystropus zelebarii and Macronyssus aristippe. Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of acarids on Rhinolophus euryale and Myotis daubentoni. New area and host records are reported.

[Determination of the helminths of wild pigeons (Columba livia Gmelin, 1789 Columbiformes) in the Bursa region]. / Bursa yöresi yabani güvercin (Columba livia Gmelin, 1789 Columbiformes)'lerindeki helmintlerin belirlenmesine yönelik arastirmalar.

The helminth fauna of 113 wild pigeons, (Columba livia Gmelin, 1789), in the Bursa Province was investigated. As a result of the investigation 3 helminth species were detected. These were Capillaria columbae (Gmelin, 1789), Ascaridia columbae (Gmelin, 1790) (Nemathelminthes) and Raillietina echinobothrida (Megnin, 1881) (Cestoda).

Helminth fauna of the Anatolian worm lizard, Blanus strauchi (Bedriaga, 1884) from Hatay.

15 Anatolian worm lizards, Blanus strauchi, (1 juvenile, 9 adult males, 5 adult females) which were collected in the Hatay province of Turkey were investigated for the presence of helminth fauna. At the end of the study, 2 species of helminth were found. These are Parapharyngodon micipsae and Thelastomatoid nematoda (Nemathelminthes). This is the first study that has been carried out on Blanus strauchi both in Turkey and the world. The parasites found make a new record for Turkey.

[An investigation of the helminth fauna of Triturus vittatus (Jenyns, 1835) and Triturus karelinii (Strauch, 1870)]. / Seritli Semender (Triturus vittatus (Jenyns, 1835)) ve Pürtüklü Semender (Triturus karelini (Strauch, 1870))'lerin Helmint Faunasi Uzerine Bir On Calisma.

Twenty banded newts and 16 southern crested newts collected from Bursa on different dates from 1997-2006 were examined for helminths .As a result of the examination, 3 helminths (Oswaldocruzia filiformis (Goeze, 1782), Megalobatrachonema terdentatum (Linstow 1890) and Oxysomatium brevicaudatum (Zeder 1800) were found on banded newts. One nematode (Oxysomatium brevicaudatum) was found on southern crested newts. This is the first helminthological study of Triturus spp. in Turkey and is a new detection of Megalobatrachonema terdentatum in Turkey.

Helminth fauna of Lycisalamandra billae (Franzen & Klewen) (Luschan salamander) collected from Antalya.

Fifty (26 males, 21 female and 3 juvenile) Lyciasalamandra luschani (Luschan's salamander) collected in Antalya, were examined for helminths during 1997-2001. In this study, 3 helminth species, Aplectana acuminata, Cosmocerca longicauda and Angiostoma aspersae (Nematoda) were found. This study is the first helminthological research of Luschan's salamander in the world. This is the first time that Luschan's salamander has been shown to be the host of these parasites.

[Helminth fauna of Hemidactylus turcicus (Linnaeus,1758) (Turkish gecko) collected from Hatay]. / Hatay'dan Toplanan Hemidactylus turcicus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Genis Parmakli Keler)'in Helmint Faunasi.

Twenty two Hemidactylus turcicus (Turkish Gecko) collected from Hatay were examined for helminths between 2000-2008 years. As a result of this study, 2 helminth species (Spauligodon laevicauda and Macracanthorynchus catulinus) were found. This is the first time that these helminth species have been found in Turkey.

[Helminth parasites of Hyla arborea (Linneaus, 1758) (tree frog) collected from Bursa, Edirne and Sakarya]. / Bursa, Edirne ve Sakarya'dan toplanan Hyla arborea (Linneaus, 1758) (Agaç Kurbagasi)'nin helmint parazitleri.

Twenty-seven tree frogs (Hyla arborea ) were collected from 3 different regions of Turkey from 1995-2000 in order to detect helminths . As a result of our survey, 1 Monogenea species and 2 Nematoda species were found. These are Polystoma skrjabini, Cosmocerca ornata and Oswaldocruzia filiformis. This is the second time Polystoma skrjabini has been recorded for this host, while this is the first time Cosmocerca ornata and Oswaldocruzia filiformis have been recorded for this host.

[The helminth fauna of Emys orbicularis (european pond turtle) (Linnaeus, 1758) living in freshwater.]. / Bursa ve çevresinde yasayan Emys orbicularis (Linnaeus, 1758) (benekli kaplumbaga)'in helmint faunasi

Twelve European pond turtles, Emys orbicularis, collected during 1996-2003 in various areas of the Bursa region were examined for helminths. During dissection, the following organs were surveyed for parasites: alimentary tract, lungs and urinary bladder. The 4 helminth species found were Patagium lazarewi (Digenea), Serpinema microcephalus, Spironoura armenica and Spiroxys contortus (Nematoda). This study that aimed at determining the helminth fauna of vertebrates in Turkey is the first survey on the host, Emys orbicularis. Also, this is the first time that Spiroxys contortus has been found among the helminth fauna of Turkey.

[Metazoon parasites of the marsh frog (Rana ridibunda PALLAS 1771; Anura) collected from the different regions in Turkey.]. / Türkiye'nin degisik bölgelerinden toplanan ova kurbagasi (Rana Ridibunda PALLAS, 1771; Anura)'nin metazoon parazitleri.

Fifty-three marsh frogs, Rana ridibunda, that were collected during the period from 1998 to 2004 from 4 different regions of Turkey and variable extended localities, were examined for helminths. As a result of our study 16 species of metazoan parasites were found. These included 9 Digenea, 4 Nematoda, 2 Acanthocephala and 1 Hirudinea. Pleurogenoides stromi, Cosmocerca ornata, Neoxsyomatium brevicaudatum, Oswaldocruzia filiformis, Eustrongylides excicus and Centrorhynchus spp. were detected. This is the first time that Rana ridibunda has been reported in Turkey.
