RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Trials of the efficacy and safety of endovascular thrombectomy in patients with large ischemic strokes have been carried out in limited populations. METHODS: We performed a prospective, randomized, open-label, adaptive, international trial involving patients with stroke due to occlusion of the internal carotid artery or the first segment of the middle cerebral artery to assess endovascular thrombectomy within 24 hours after onset. Patients had a large ischemic-core volume, defined as an Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score of 3 to 5 (range, 0 to 10, with lower scores indicating larger infarction) or a core volume of at least 50 ml on computed tomography perfusion or diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. Patients were assigned in a 1:1 ratio to endovascular thrombectomy plus medical care or to medical care alone. The primary outcome was the modified Rankin scale score at 90 days (range, 0 to 6, with higher scores indicating greater disability). Functional independence was a secondary outcome. RESULTS: The trial was stopped early for efficacy; 178 patients had been assigned to the thrombectomy group and 174 to the medical-care group. The generalized odds ratio for a shift in the distribution of modified Rankin scale scores toward better outcomes in favor of thrombectomy was 1.51 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.20 to 1.89; P<0.001). A total of 20% of the patients in the thrombectomy group and 7% in the medical-care group had functional independence (relative risk, 2.97; 95% CI, 1.60 to 5.51). Mortality was similar in the two groups. In the thrombectomy group, arterial access-site complications occurred in 5 patients, dissection in 10, cerebral-vessel perforation in 7, and transient vasospasm in 11. Symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage occurred in 1 patient in the thrombectomy group and in 2 in the medical-care group. CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with large ischemic strokes, endovascular thrombectomy resulted in better functional outcomes than medical care but was associated with vascular complications. Innate and adaptive lymphoid development is orchestrated by the activities of E proteins and their antagonist Id proteins, but how these factors regulate early T cell progenitor (ETP) and innate lymphoid cell (ILC) development remains unclear. Using multiple genetic strategies, we demonstrated that E proteins E2A and HEB acted in synergy in the thymus to establish T cell identity and to suppress the aberrant development of ILCs, including ILC2s and lymphoid-tissue-inducer-like cells. E2A and HEB orchestrated T cell fate and suppressed the ILC transcription signature by activating the expression of genes associated with Notch receptors, T cell receptor (TCR) assembly, and TCR-mediated signaling. E2A and HEB acted in ETPs to establish and maintain a T-cell-lineage-specific enhancer repertoire, including regulatory elements associated with the Notch1, Rag1, and Rag2 loci. On the basis of these and previous observations, we propose that the E-Id protein axis specifies innate and adaptive lymphoid cell fate.

BACKGROUND: Multiple randomised trials have shown efficacy and safety of endovascular thrombectomy in patients with large ischaemic stroke. The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term (ie, at 1 year) evidence of benefit of thrombectomy for these patients. METHODS: SELECT2 was a phase 3, open-label, international, randomised controlled trial with blinded endpoint assessment, conducted at 31 hospitals in the USA, Canada, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand. Patients aged 18-85 years with ischaemic stroke due to proximal occlusion of the internal carotid artery or of the first segment of the middle cerebral artery, showing large ischaemic core on non-contrast CT (Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomographic Score of 3-5 [range 0-10, with lower values indicating larger infarctions]) or measuring 50 mL or more on CT perfusion and MRI, were randomly assigned, within 24 h of ischaemic stroke onset, to thrombectomy plus medical care or to medical care alone. The primary outcome for this analysis was the ordinal modified Rankin Scale (range 0-6, with higher scores indicating greater disability) at 1-year follow-up in an intention-to-treat population. The trial is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT03876457) and is completed. FINDINGS: The trial was terminated early for efficacy at the 90-day follow-up after 352 patients had been randomly assigned (178 to thrombectomy and 174 to medical care only) between Oct 11, 2019, and Sept 9, 2022. Thrombectomy significantly improved the 1-year modified Rankin Scale score distribution versus medical care alone (Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney probability of superiority 0·59 [95% CI 0·53-0·64]; p=0·0019; generalised odds ratio 1·43 [95% CI 1·14-1·78]). At the 1-year follow-up, 77 (45%) of 170 patients receiving thrombectomy had died, compared with 83 (52%) of 159 patients receiving medical care only (1-year mortality relative risk 0·89 [95% CI 0·71-1·11]). INTERPRETATION: In patients with ischaemic stroke due to a proximal occlusion and large core, thrombectomy plus medical care provided a significant functional outcome benefit compared with medical care alone at 1-year follow-up. Animals are under constant selective pressure from a myriad of diverse pathogens. Microsporidia are ubiquitous animal parasites, but the influence they exert on shaping animal genomes is mostly unknown. Using multiplexed competition assays, we measured the impact of four different species of microsporidia on 22 wild isolates of Caenorhabditis elegans. This resulted in the identification and confirmation of 13 strains with significantly altered population fitness profiles under infection conditions. One of these identified strains, JU1400, is sensitive to an epidermal-infecting species by lacking tolerance to infection. JU1400 is also resistant to an intestinal-infecting species and can specifically recognize and destroy this pathogen. Genetic mapping of JU1400 demonstrates that these two opposing phenotypes are caused by separate loci. Transcriptional analysis reveals the JU1400 sensitivity to epidermal microsporidia infection results in a response pattern that shares similarity to toxin-induced responses. In contrast, we do not observe JU1400 intestinal resistance being regulated at the transcriptional level. The transcriptional response to these four microsporidia species is conserved, with C. elegans strain-specific differences in potential immune genes. Together, our results show that phenotypic differences to microsporidia infection amongst C. elegans are common and that animals can evolve species-specific genetic interactions.

Large or blastoid B-cell neoplasms that are SOX11+ are a diagnostic dilemma and raise a differential diagnosis of cyclin D1-negative blastoid/pleomorphic mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) versus diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) or blastoid high-grade B-cell lymphoma (HGBL) with aberrant SOX11 expression. Here we report a study cohort of 13 SOX11+ large/blastoid B-cell neoplasms. Fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis was negative for CCND1 rearrangement in all 13 cases; 1 of 8 (12.5%) cases tested showed CCND2 rearrangement and 2 (25%) cases had extracopies of CCND2. Gene expression profiling showed that the study group had a gene expression signature similar to cyclin D1+ blastoid/pleomorphic MCL but different from DLBCL. Principal component analysis revealed that the cohort cases overlapped with cyclin D1+ blastoid/pleomorphic MCL but had minimal overlap with DLBCL. All patients in the cohort had clinicopathologic features similar to those reported for patients with cyclin D1+ MCL. We also performed a survey of SOX11 expression in a group of 85 cases of DLBCL and 24 cases of blastoid HGBL. SOX11 expression showed a 100% specificity and positive predictive value for the diagnosis of MCL. Overall, the results support the conclusion that large or blastoid B-cell neoplasms that are positive for SOX11 are best classified as cyclin D1-negative blastoid/pleomorphic MCL, and not as DLBCL or blastoid HGBL. We also conclude that SOX11 is a specific marker for the diagnosis of MCL, including cyclin D1-negative blastoid/pleomorphic MCL cases and should be performed routinely on blastoid/large B-cell neoplasms to help identify potential cases of cyclin D1-negative blastoid/pleomorphic MCL.

The genome is folded into domains located in compartments that are either transcriptionally inert or transcriptionally permissive. Here we used genome-wide strategies to characterize domains during B cell development. Structured interaction matrix analysis showed that occupancy by the architectural protein CTCF was associated mainly with intradomain interactions, whereas sites bound by the histone acetyltransferase p300 or the transcription factors E2A or PU.1 were associated with intra- and interdomain interactions that are developmentally regulated. We identified a spectrum of genes that switched nuclear location during early B cell development. In progenitor cells, the transcriptionally inactive locus encoding early B cell factor (Ebf1) was sequestered at the nuclear lamina, which thereby preserved their multipotency. After development into the pro-B cell stage, Ebf1 and other genes switched compartments to establish new intra- and interdomain interactions associated with a B lineage-specific transcription signature.

T follicular helper (Tfh) cells are essential in the induction of high-affinity, class-switched antibodies. The differentiation of Tfh cells is a multi-step process that depends upon the co-receptor ICOS and the activation of phosphoinositide-3 kinase leading to the expression of key Tfh cell genes. We report that ICOS signaling inactivates the transcription factor FOXO1, and a Foxo1 genetic deletion allowed for generation of Tfh cells with reduced dependence on ICOS ligand. Conversely, enforced nuclear localization of FOXO1 inhibited Tfh cell development even though ICOS was overexpressed. FOXO1 regulated Tfh cell differentiation through a broad program of gene expression exemplified by its negative regulation of Bcl6. Final differentiation to germinal center Tfh cells (GC-Tfh) was instead FOXO1 dependent as the Foxo1(-/-) GC-Tfh cell population was substantially reduced. We propose that ICOS signaling transiently inactivates FOXO1 to initiate a Tfh cell contingency that is completed in a FOXO1-dependent manner.

BACKGROUND: The aim was to validate the correlation between corneal shape parameters and axial length growth (ALG) during orthokeratology using Image-Pro Plus (IPP) 6.0 software. METHODS: This retrospective study used medical records of myopic children aged 8-13 years (n = 104) undergoing orthokeratology. Their corneal topography and axial length were measured at baseline and subsequent follow-ups after lens wear. Corneal shape parameters, including the treatment zone (TZ) area, TZ diameter, TZ fractal dimension, TZ radius ratio, eccentric distance, pupil area, and pupillary peripheral steepened zone(PSZ) area, were measured using IPP software. The impact of corneal shape parameters at 3 months post-orthokeratology visit on 1.5-year ALG was evaluated using multivariate linear regression analysis. RESULTS: ALG exhibited significant associations with age, TZ area, TZ diameter, TZ fractal dimension, and eccentric distance on univariate linear regression analysis. Multivariate regression analysis identified age, TZ area, and eccentric distance as significantly correlated with ALG (all P < 0.01), with eccentric distance showing the strongest correlation (ß = -0.370). The regressive equation was y = 1.870 - 0.235a + 0.276b - 0.370c, where y represents ALG, a represents age, b represents TZ area, and c represents eccentric distance; R2 = 0.27). No significant relationships were observed between the TZ radius ratio, pupillary PSZ area, and ALG. CONCLUSIONS: IPP software proves effective in capturing precise corneal shape parameters after orthokeratology. Eccentric distance, rather than age or the TZ area, significantly influences ALG retardation.

Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is a collection of genetically diverse diseases characterised by abnormal proliferation of immature haematopoietic cells and disruption of normal haematopoiesis. Myeloid cells and lymphocytes originate from different haematopoietic precursors within the bone marrow. It has been traditionally assumed that myeloid cells cannot produce immunoglobulin (Ig), a marker of B cells and plasma cells. However, in recent years, all five Ig classes have been detected in CD34+ haematopoietic stem cells, mature monocytes and neutrophils, differentiated macrophages and tumour-associated macrophages, acute myeloid leukaemia cell lines, as well as myeloblasts of AML. The rearranged V(D)J sequences exhibit unique restricted or biased V gene usage and evidence of somatic mutation. Furthermore, AML-derived Igs could promote cell proliferation, induce apoptosis, and enhance migration. Elevated levels of Ig expression predict inferior clinical outcomes. These findings indicate that AML-derived Ig plays a role in AML pathogenesis and progression, and could serve as a novel biomarker for risk stratification, disease monitoring, and targeted therapy. In this chapter, we provide a comprehensive review of recent literature on the expression, function, and significance of non B cell-derived Ig in the haematological system, with a focus on AML.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate global, regional, and national trends in osteoarthritis disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) from 1990 to 2019, identify the burden of osteoarthritis in different age groups, and assess age, period, and cohort effects on osteoarthritis DALYs. STUDY DESIGN: A comprehensive analysis of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 data, covering 204 countries and territories. METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive analysis using data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019, encompassing 204 countries and territories. Age-standardized DALY rates were calculated, and the age-period-cohort model was employed to examine the age, period, and cohort effects on osteoarthritis DALYs. The annual percentage change (APC) and average annual percentage change (AAPC) were estimated to evaluate trends in DALYs. RESULTS: Globally, osteoarthritis DALYs increased by 114.48 % between 1990 and 2019, with an age-standardized DALY rate growth of 3.3 %. The largest relative growth in DALYs occurred in Middle and Low-middle Socio-Demographic Index (SDI) regions. DALYs increased significantly in almost all age-specific groups, particularly among 45-74 years old age groups. Age, period, and cohort effects analysis revealed a general increase in osteoarthritis DALYs risk over time, with some variations by SDI quintiles and sex. The steepest increase in DALYs occurred in the 30-34 years age group, and the trend attenuated with increasing age. Males showed significantly slower DALYs growth than females in age groups with non-overlapping 95 % confidence intervals. Age effects were consistently higher in females, especially in high-SDI countries. Period and cohort effects generally demonstrated a climbing risk of osteoarthritis DALYs across different SDI quintiles, with more pronounced increases in lower-SDI regions. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlight the substantial and increasing burden of osteoarthritis at global, regional, and national levels from 1990 to 2019, with significant variations by age, period, and cohort. These results underscore the importance of developing targeted public health strategies and interventions to address the growing impact of osteoarthritis, particularly in lower-SDI regions and among older populations.

OBJECTIVES: To determine whether gestational cardiovascular health (CVH) during the first trimester is associated with a risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. STUDY DESIGN: A multicentre prospective cohort; part of the China birth cohort study. METHODS: Pregnant women were recruited at 6-13+6 gestation weeks and followed to delivery to identify pregnancy outcomes. Gestational CVH in the first trimester was assessed using five CVH metrics: body mass index, smoking, blood pressure, glucose, and lipids. Multilevel modified Poisson regression models calculated the relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) of gestational CVH for adverse pregnancy outcomes. RESULTS: Among 56,852 pregnant women, the mean score for gestational CVH during the first trimester was 9.1. Adjusting for confounding factors, each 1-point decrease in the total gestational CVH score significantly increased the risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (RR = 1.682, 95% CI: 1.624-1.743), gestational diabetes mellitus (RR = 1.405, 95% CI: 1.384-1.426), preterm birth (RR = 1.184, 95% CI: 1.174-1.195), large for gestational age (RR = 1.224, 95% CI: 1.199-1.250), caesarean delivery (RR = 1.073, 95% CI: 1.049-1.097), and low Apgar score (RR = 1.131, 95% CI: 1.003-1.277) significantly increased. Meanwhile, the risk of small for gestational age decreased (SGA; RR = 0.922, 95% CI: 0.898-0.946). Worsened CVH categories significantly increased the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes, excluding SGA. CONCLUSIONS: Poor gestational CVH in the first trimester significantly increases the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes, emphasising the need for early improvement in gestational CVH.

Importance: Whether endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) efficacy for patients with acute ischemic stroke and large cores varies depending on the extent of ischemic injury is uncertain. Objective: To describe the relationship between imaging estimates of irreversibly injured brain (core) and at-risk regions (mismatch) and clinical outcomes and EVT treatment effect. Design, Setting, and Participants: An exploratory analysis of the SELECT2 trial, which randomized 352 adults (18-85 years) with acute ischemic stroke due to occlusion of the internal carotid or middle cerebral artery (M1 segment) and large ischemic core to EVT vs medical management (MM), across 31 global centers between October 2019 and September 2022. Intervention: EVT vs MM. Main Outcomes and Measures: Primary outcome was functional outcome-90-day mRS score (0, no symptoms, to 6, death) assessed by adjusted generalized OR (aGenOR; values >1 represent more favorable outcomes). Benefit of EVT vs MM was assessed across levels of ischemic injury defined by noncontrast CT using ASPECTS score and by the volume of brain with severely reduced blood flow on CT perfusion or restricted diffusion on MRI. Results: Among 352 patients randomized, 336 were analyzed (median age, 67 years; 139 [41.4%] female); of these, 168 (50%) were randomized to EVT, and 2 additional crossover MM patients received EVT. In an ordinal analysis of mRS at 90 days, EVT improved functional outcomes compared with MM within ASPECTS categories of 3 (aGenOR, 1.71 [95% CI, 1.04-2.81]), 4 (aGenOR, 2.01 [95% CI, 1.19-3.40]), and 5 (aGenOR, 1.85 [95% CI, 1.22-2.79]). Across strata for CT perfusion/MRI ischemic core volumes, aGenOR for EVT vs MM was 1.63 (95% CI, 1.23-2.16) for volumes ≥70 mL, 1.41 (95% CI, 0.99-2.02) for ≥100 mL, and 1.47 (95% CI, 0.84-2.56) for ≥150 mL. In the EVT group, outcomes worsened as ASPECTS decreased (aGenOR, 0.91 [95% CI, 0.82-1.00] per 1-point decrease) and as CT perfusion/MRI ischemic core volume increased (aGenOR, 0.92 [95% CI, 0.89-0.95] per 10-mL increase). No heterogeneity of EVT treatment effect was observed with or without mismatch, although few patients without mismatch were enrolled. Conclusion and Relevance: In this exploratory analysis of a randomized clinical trial of patients with extensive ischemic stroke, EVT improved clinical outcomes across a wide spectrum of infarct volumes, although enrollment of patients with minimal penumbra volume was low. In EVT-treated patients, clinical outcomes worsened as presenting ischemic injury estimates increased. Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03876457.

RESUMO

Successful drug development for people with cancers of the CNS has been challenging. There are multiple barriers to successful drug development including biological factors, rarity of the disease, and ineffective use of clinical trials. Based upon a series of presentations at the First Central Nervous System Clinical Trials Conference hosted by the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Society for Neuro-Oncology, we provide an overview on drug development and novel trial designs in neuro-oncology. This Review discusses the challenges of therapeutic development in neuro-oncology and proposes strategies to improve the drug discovery process by enriching the pipeline of promising therapies, optimising trial design, incorporating biomarkers, using external data, and maximising efficacy and reproducibility of clinical trials.

BACKGROUND: ETNK1 mutation has been suggested as a useful tool to support the diagnosis of atypical chronic myeloid leukemia. ETNK1 mutations, however, occur in other myeloid neoplasms. METHODS: The authors assessed the clinicopathologic and molecular genetic features of 80 ETNK1-mutated myeloid neoplasms. RESULTS: Thirty-seven neoplasms (46%) were classified as myelodysplastic syndrome, 17 (21%) were classified as myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasm, 14 (18%) were classified as acute myeloid leukemia, and 12 (15%) were classified as myeloproliferative neoplasm. ETNK1 mutations were detected at the first test in 96% of patients, suggesting that ETNK1 mutation is an early event in pathogenesis. ETNK1 mutations represented the dominant clone in 63% of patients and was persistently dominant in 93%. The variant allele frequencies were usually higher in acute myeloid leukemia and increased upon leukemic transformation. ETNK1 mutation was accompanied by coexisting mutations in all patients, with ASXL1 (50%), TET2 (25%), EZH2 (24%), RUNX1 (24%), and SRSF2 (24%) mutations being the most common. Neoplasms with ETNK1 mutations were associated with morphologic dysplasia, increased blasts, myelofibrosis, and noncomplex karyotypes. With a median follow-up of 16.5 months, 30 patients died, 44 had persistent disease, and four achieved complete remission after stem cell transplantation. CONCLUSIONS: ETNK1 mutation is present in various myeloid neoplasms, often as an early event and a dominant clone and always with concurrent mutations. It may play an important role in the pathogenesis and progression of myeloid neoplasms by causing DNA damage and inducing other mutations and genomic instability, and it may serve as a potential therapeutic target. ETNK1 mutation is not disease-specific and should be interpreted with caution to classify myeloid neoplasms.

The development of therapy-related myeloid neoplasms (t-MN) is a rare complication that can occur in myeloma patients treated primarily with novel therapies. To better understand t-MNs in this context, we reviewed 66 such patients and compared them with a control group of patients who developed t-MN after cytotoxic therapies for other malignancies. The study group included 50 men and 16 women, with a median age of 68 years (range, 48-86 years). Therapies included proteasome inhibitors, immunomodulatory agents, and high-dose melphalan-based autologous stem cell transplantation (HDM-ASCT) in 64 (97%), 65 (98.5%), and 64 (97%) patients, respectively; 29 (43.9%) patients were exposed to other cytotoxic drugs besides HDM. The latency interval from therapy to t-MN was 4.9 years (range, 0.6-21.9 years). Patients who received HDM-ASCT in addition to other cytotoxic therapies had a longer latency period to t-MN compared with patients who only received HDM-ASCT (6.1 vs 4.7 years, P = .009). Notably, 11 patients developed t-MN within 2 years. Therapy-related myelodysplastic syndrome was the most common type of neoplasm (n = 60), followed by therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (n = 4) and myelodysplastic syndrome/myeloproliferative neoplasm (n = 2). The most common cytogenetic aberrations included complex karyotypes (48.5%), del7q/-7 (43.9%), and/or del5q/-5 (40.9%). The most frequent molecular alteration was TP53 mutation, in 43 (67.2%) patients and the sole mutation in 20 patients. Other mutations included DNMT3A, 26.6%; TET2, 14.1%; RUNX1, 10.9%; ASXL1, 7.8%; and U2AF1, 7.8%. Other mutations in less than 5% of cases included SRSF2, EZH2, STAG2, NRAS, SETBP, SF3B1, SF3A1, and ASXL2. After a median follow-up of 15.3 months, 18 patients were alive and 48 died. The median overall survival after the diagnosis of t-MN in the study group was 18.4 months. Although the overall features are comparable to the control group, the short interval to t-MN (<2 years) underscores the unique vulnerable status of myeloma patients.

It is established that the transcription factor E2A and its antagonist Id3 modulate the checkpoints consisting of the precursor to the T cell antigen receptor (pre-TCR) and the TCR. Here we demonstrate that Id3 expression was higher beyond the pre-TCR checkpoint, remained high in naive T cells and showed a bimodal pattern in the effector-memory population. We show how E2A promoted T lineage specification and how pre-TCR-mediated signaling affected E2A genome-wide occupancy. Thymi in Id3-deficient mice had aberrant development of effector-memory cells, higher expression of the chemokine receptor CXCR5 and the transcriptional repressor Bcl-6 and, unexpectedly, T cell-B cell conjugates and B cell follicles. Collectively, our data show how E2A acted globally to orchestrate development into the T lineage and that Id3 antagonized E2A activity beyond the pre-TCR checkpoint to enforce the naive fate of T cells.

Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) are a group of clonal hematopoietic stem cell disorders with uncontrolled proliferation of one or more hematopoietic cell types, including myeloid, erythroid and megakaryocytic lineages, and minimal defect in maturation. Most MPN are associated with well-defined molecular abnormalities involving genes that encode protein tyrosine kinases that lead to constitutive activation of the downstream signal transduction pathways and confer cells proliferative and survival advantage. Genome-wide sequencing analyses have discovered secondary cooperating mutations that are shared by most of the MPN subtypes as well as other myeloid neoplasms and play a major role in disease progression. Without appropriate management, the natural history of most MPN consists of an initial chronic phase and a terminal blast phase. Molecular aberrations involving protein tyrosine kinases have been used for the diagnosis, classification, detection of minimal/measurable residual disease, and target therapy. We review recent advances in molecular genetic aberrations in MPN with a focus on MPN associated with gene rearrangements or mutations involving tyrosine kinase pathways.

Apple replant disease (ARD) caused by the fungal pathogen Fusarium proliferatum f. sp. malus domestica (Fpmd) MR5 brings annual losses to apple production within China. However, the genomic information of the pathogen is not yet available. Here, we obtained the whole-genome sequence of the highly virulent Fpmd MR5 using the Illumina PE150 platform. The genome size was 42.76 Mb and consisted of 9,047 genes. The GC content was 48.80%, and several genes potentially associated with pathogenicity were identified, such as carbohydrate-active enzymes, secreted proteins, and secondary metabolite gene clusters. There were 260 specific virulence factor genes, mainly related to fungal vegetative growth and the production of cell wall-degrading enzymes. These data will aid future studies investigating host-pathogen interactions and help us develop suitable disease management strategies.
