RESUMO

Electroreduction of waste nitrate to valuable ammonia offers a green solution for environmental restoration and energy storage. However, the electrochemical self-reconstruction of catalysts remains a huge challenge in terms of maintaining their stability, achieving the desired active sites, and managing metal leaching. Herein, we present an electrical pulse-driven Co surface reconstruction-coupled Coδ+ shuttle strategy for the precise in situ regulation of the Co(II)/Co(III) redox cycle on the Co-based working electrode and guiding the dissolution and redeposition of Co-based particles on the counter electrode. As result, the ammonia synthesis performance and stability are significantly promoted while cathodic hydrogen evolution and anodic ammonia oxidation in a membrane-free configuration are effectively blocked. A high rate of ammonia production of 1.4 ± 0.03 mmol cm-2 h-1 is achieved at -0.8 V in a pulsed system, and the corresponding nitrate-to-ammonia Faraday efficiency is 91.7 ± 1.0%. This work holds promise for the regulation of catalyst reactivity and selectivity by engineering in situ controllable structural and chemical transformations.

In order to explore the risk factors of relapse and potential optimized therapeutic regimen of low-risk acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL), here we retrospectively analysed 282 patients who were diagnosed between February 2014 and September 2021. The median follow-up was 59 (9-102) months. The 5-year overall survival and cumulative relapse incidence were 97.9% and 5.9%, respectively. In terms of different cytoreductive therapies, 86 patients were administered with hydroxycarbamide (30.5%), 113 with anthracyclines or cytarabine (40.1%), 31 with etoposide (11.0%) and 52 with no cytoreductive therapy (18.4%) during the induction therapy. The hydroxycarbamide treatment group did not decrease the relapse rate compared to the no cytoreduction group (11.4% vs. 5.9%, p = 0.289). Compared with the hydroxycarbamide group, the anthracyclines/cytarabine treatment group showed improved 5-year RFS (88.145% vs. 98.113%, p = 0.008). Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that myeloblasts in bone marrow at diagnosis, and PML-RARA transcript level of 6.5% or more after induction therapy were associated with a subsequent risk of relapse. The only factor positively reducing the relapse rate was anthracyclines/cytarabine cytoreductive treatment. In conclusion, cytoreductive chemotherapy in induction therapy plays a potential key role in the prognosis of low-risk APL.

Inter-channel nonlinearity compensation plays a crucial role in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems for improving transmission capacity and distance. In this work, we propose a novel, to the best of our knowledge, inter-channel nonlinearity compensation method called generalized Rayleigh quotient optimization (GRQO) method with two different working modes. In an 8 × 64 GBaud 16-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM) experimental system over 1600 km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF), the proposed method shows a 0.40 dB Q2 factor improvement over nonlinear polarization cross talk canceller (NPCC) with a moderately low computational complexity of about 2000 real multiplications per bit (RMb).

Electroreduction of nitrate (NO3RR) to ammonia in membraneless electrolyzers is of great significance for reducing the cost and saving energy consumption. However, severe chemical crossover with side reactions makes it challenging to achieve ideal electrolysis. Herein, we propose a general strategy for efficient membraneless ammonia synthesis by screening NO3RR catalysts with inferior oxygen reduction activity and matching the counter electrode (CE) with good oxygen evolution activity while blocking anodic ammonia oxidation. Consequently, screening the available Co-Co system, the membraneless NO3--to-NH3 conversion performance was significantly higher than H-type cells using costly proton-exchange membranes. At 200 mA cm-2, the full-cell voltage of the membraneless system (∼2.5 V) is 4 V lower than that of the membrane system (∼6.5 V), and the savings are 61.4 kW h (or 56.9%) per 1 kg NH3 produced. A well-designed pulse process, inducing reversible surface reconstruction that in situ generates and restores the active Co(III) species at the working electrode and forms favorable Co3O4/CoOOH at the CE, further significantly improves NO3--to-NH3 conversion and blocks side reactions. A maximum NH3 yield rate of 1500.9 µmol cm-2 h-1 was achieved at -0.9 V (Faraday efficiency 92.6%). This pulse-coupled membraneless strategy provides new insights into design complex electrochemical synthesis.

Improved survival of preterm low birthweight (LBW) infants due to advances in neonatal care has brought issues such as postnatal development trajectories to the foreground. This study pools evidence from three cluster-randomized experiments evaluating community-based psychosocial stimulation programs conducted from 2014 to 2017 that included 3571 rural Chinese children aged 6-24 months (51.1% male, 96.2% Han Chinese). The risk of severe cognitive delay was found to be 26.5 percentage points higher for preterm LBW children than for their peers at age 2.5, with a prevalence rate of 48.3%. Results show that psychosocial stimulation interventions can improve child cognitive development at scale, with beneficial impacts on child cognition disproportionately larger for preterm LBW children, helping them to catch up developmentally.

The extraction of typical features of underwater target signals and excellent recognition algorithms are the keys to achieving underwater acoustic target recognition of divers. This paper proposes a feature extraction method for diver signals: frequency-domain multi-sub-band energy (FMSE), aiming to achieve accurate recognition of diver underwater acoustic targets by passive sonar. The impact of the presence or absence of targets, different numbers of targets, different signal-to-noise ratios, and different detection distances on this method was studied based on experimental data under different conditions, such as water pools and lakes. It was found that the FMSE method has the best robustness and performance compared with two other signal feature extraction methods: mel frequency cepstral coefficient filtering and gammatone frequency cepstral coefficient filtering. Combined with the commonly used recognition algorithm of support vector machines, the FMSE method can achieve a comprehensive recognition accuracy of over 94% for frogman underwater acoustic targets. This indicates that the FMSE method is suitable for underwater acoustic recognition of diver targets.

Skin macrophages are critical to maintain and restore skin homeostasis. They serve as major producers of cytokines and chemokines in the skin, participating in diverse biological processes such as wound healing and psoriasis. The heterogeneity and functional diversity of macrophage subpopulations endow them with multifaceted roles in psoriasis development. A distinct subpopulation of skin macrophages, characterized by high expression of CD169, has been reported to exist in both mouse and human skin. However, its role in psoriasis remains unknown. Here, we report that CD169+ macrophages exhibit increased abundance in imiquimod (IMQ) induced psoriasis-like skin lesions. Specific depletion of CD169+ macrophages in CD169-ditheria toxin receptor (CD169-DTR) mice inhibits IMQ-induced psoriasis, resulting in milder symptoms, diminished proinflammatory cytokine levels and reduced proportion of Th17 cells within the skin lesions. Furthermore, transcriptomic analysis uncovers enhanced activity in CD169+ macrophages when compared with CD169- macrophages, characterized by upregulated genes that are associated with cell activation and cell metabolism. Mechanistically, CD169+ macrophages isolated from IMQ-induced skin lesions produce more proinflammatory cytokines and exhibit enhanced ability to promote Th17 cell differentiation in vitro. Collectively, our findings highlight the crucial involvement of CD169+ macrophages in psoriasis development and offer novel insights into the heterogeneity of skin macrophages in the context of psoriasis.

As the COVID-19 variant Omicron surge in Beijing, China, a better understanding of risk factors for adverse outcomes may improve clinical management in patients with haematological malignancies (HM) diagnosed with COVID-19. The study sample includes 412 cases, mainly represented by acute leukaemia, chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), plasma cell disorders and lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. COVID-19 pneumonia was observed in 10.4% (43/412) of patients, and severe/critical illness was observed in 5.3% (22/412). Among the 86 cases with advanced malignancies, 17.6% (12/86) of patients developed severe/critical COVID-19, which was significantly higher than reported in patients with stable malignancies (9/326, 2.70%, p < 0.001). Similarly, the advanced malignancy cohort had a higher mortality rate (9/86, 10.5% vs. 0/326, 0%, p < 0.001) and a poor 30-day overall survival (OS) compared with the stable malignancy cohort (74.2% vs. 100.0%, p < 0.0001). Overall, nine patients (2.2%) died. The primary cause of death was progressive HM in four patients and a combination of both COVID-19 and HM in five patients. In the multivariable analysis, over 65 years of age, comorbidities and advanced malignancy were correlated with severe/critical COVID-19 in HM patients. This study sheds light on the poor outcomes among COVID-19 HM patients with the leading cause of advanced malignancy.

Follicular dendritic cells (FDCs) are a specialized type of stromal cells that exclusively reside in B-cell follicles. When inflammation occurs, the FDC network is reorganized to support germinal center (GC) polarization into the light zone (LZ) and dark zone (DZ). Despite the indispensable role of FDCs in supporting humoral responses, the FDC regulatory requirements remain incompletely defined. In this study, we unexpectedly observed an accumulation of CD169+ subcapsular sinus macrophage (SSM)-derived microvesicles (MVs) in the B-cell zone, which were tightly associated with the FDC network. Interestingly, a selective deposition of CD169+ MVs was detected in both GC LZ FDCs in secondary follicles and on predetermined LZ FDCs in primary follicles. The ablation of CD169+ MVs, resulting from SSM depletion, resulted in significantly decreased expression of LZ-related genes in FDCs. In addition, we found that CD169+ MVs could colocalize with fluorescently tagged antigen-containing immune complexes (ICs), supporting a possible role of CD169+ MVs in transporting antigens to the FDC network. Thus, our data reveal intimate crosstalk between FDCs and SSMs located outside B-cell follicles via SSM-released MVs, providing a novel perspective on the mechanisms underlying the regulation of FDC maturation and polarization.

There was no consensus on whether prognostic advantages existed when transplant conducted at first complete remission (CR1) stage than at second complete remission (CR2) stage for patients with AML who received haploidentical hematological stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT). In 768 consecutive AML patients who received haplo-HSCT from January 2014 to December 2017, a 1:2 ratio matched-pair analysis was performed, 69 patients who in CR2 group and 138 CR1 patients were enrolled. Hematopoietic recovery, graft versus host disease (GVHD), relapse, transplant related mortality (TRM), disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were compared in two groups, and further evaluated in low-, intermediate-, and high-risk subgroups. The cumulative incidences of 30-day myeloid recovery and 90-day platelet recovery were comparable in CR1 and CR2 groups. The cumulative incidences of grade II-IV and grade III-IV aGVHD were not significantly different. The cumulative incidences of relapse at 3-year and 5-year in these two groups were 12.4% versus 11.6% (P = 0.880) and 12.4% versus 17.5% (P = 0.322). The cumulative incidences of TRM at 3-year and 5-year were both 10.9% versus 23.2% (P = 0.019). The probability of DFS at 3-year and 5-year were 76.7% versus 65.2% (P = 0.029) and 76.7% versus 59.3% (P = 0.009). The probability of OS at 3-year and 5-year were 81.8% versus 68.1% (P = 0.026) and 76.7% versus 59.3% (P = 0.026). In the intermediate-risk group, TRM was lower in CR1 group, DFS and OS of CR1 group were superior to CR2 group. In conclusion, haplo-HSCT at CR1 stage was of better prognosis for intermediate-risk AML patients than at CR2 stage.

Due to the excellent electrostatic control, high mobility, large specific surface area, and suitable direct energy gap of two-dimensional (2D) indium arsenide (InAs), it is regarded as one of the most promising alternative channel materials for next-generation electronic and optoelectronic devices. Recently, 2D semiconducting InAs has been successfully prepared. Based on first-principles calculations, we calculate the mechanical, electronic, and interfacial properties of monolayer (ML) fully-hydrogen-passivated InAs (InAsH2) material. The results show that 2D InAsH2 with excellent stability has a suitable logic device band gap (1.59 eV) comparable to silicon (1.14 eV) and 2D MoS2 (1.80 eV), and the electron carrier mobility of ML InAsH2 (490 cm2 V-1 s-1) is twice as large as that of 2D MoS2 (200 cm2 V-1 s-1). In addition, we study the electronic structure of the interfacial contact characteristics of ML half-hydrogen-passivated InAs (InAsH) with seven bulk metals (Ag, Au, Cu, Al, Ni, Pd, Pt) and two 2D metals (ML Ti2C and ML graphene). 2D InAs was metallized after contact with the seven bulk metals and two 2D metals. Based on the above, we insert 2D boron nitride (BN) between ML InAsH and the seven low/high-power function bulk metals to eliminate the interfacial states. Remarkably, the semiconducting properties of 2D InAs with Pd and Pt electrodes are recovered, and 2D InAs achieves p-type ohmic contact with the Pt electrode, which facilitates high on-current and high-frequency operation of the transistor. Hence, this work provides systematic theoretical guidance for the design of next-generation electronic devices.

To describe and analyze the current research status of life-space mobility of the older persons in community. The literature in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, EBSCOhost, Scopus, OpenGrey, SinoMed, CNKI, WanFang, and VIP databases was computer searched, and the time frame was build to May 23, 2023. A total of 42 literatures were included, including 35 in English and 7 in Chinese, 30 of which were cross-sectional studies. Theoretical models related to spatial mobility included the "concentric circles" model and the "cone" model. 33 literatures reported the prevalence or level of spatial mobility limitations, and 9 assessment instruments were used, The influencing factors can be divided into four categories. 9 literatures reported on the adverse effects, and 9 literatures reported on the prevention and intervention. The limitation of life-space mobility is a common and under-recognized phenomenon among the older persons in the community,with serious adverse effects, complex and diverse influencing factors.

BACKGROUND: The study was designed to explore the correlation of the asymmetric regulation between periaqueductal gray (PAG) and bilateral trigeminal nucleus caudalis (TNC) in migraine rats through studying the changes of metabolites in pain regulatory pathway of acute migraine attack. METHODS: Thirty male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into three groups: blank, control, model groups. Then, blank group was intraperitoneally injected with ultrapure water, while control group injected with saline and model group injected with Glyceryl Trinitrate (GTN). Two hours later, PAG and bilateral TNC were removed respectively, and metabolite concentrations of PAG, Left-TNC, Right-TNC were obtained. Lastly, the differences of metabolite among three brain tissues were compared. RESULTS: The relative concentrations of rNAA, rGlu, rGln, rTau, rMI in PAG or bilateral TNC had interaction effects between groups and sites. The concentration of rLac of three brain tissues increased in migraine rats, however, the rLac of LTNC and RTNC increased more than that of PAG. Besides, the concentrations of rNAA and rGln increased in RTNC, while rGABA decreased in RTNC. CONCLUSIONS: There is correlation between PAG, LTNC and RTNC in regulation of pain during acute migraine attack, and the regulation of LTNC and RTNC on pain is asymmetric.

This study investigated the mechanism of Danggui Shaoyao Powder(DSP) against mitophagy in rat model of Alzheimer's disease(AD) induced by streptozotocin(STZ) based on PTEN induced putative kinase 1(PINK1)-Parkin signaling pathway. The AD rat model was established by injecting STZ into the lateral ventricle, and the rats were divided into normal group, model group, DSP low-dose group(12 g·kg~(-1)·d~(-1)), DSP medium-dose group(24 g·kg~(-1)·d~(-1)), and DSP high-dose group(36 g·kg~(-1)·d~(-1)). Morris water maze test was used to detect the learning and memory function of the rats, and transmission electron microscopy and immunofluorescence were employed to detect mitophagy. The protein expression levels of PINK1, Parkin, LC3BⅠ/LC3BⅡ, and p62 were assayed by Western blot. Compared with the normal group, the model group showed a significant decrease in the learning and memory function(P<0.01), reduced protein expression of PINK1 and Parkin(P<0.05), increased protein expression of LC3BⅠ/LC3BⅡ and p62(P<0.05), and decreased occurrence of mitophagy(P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the DSP medium-and high-dose groups notably improved the learning and memory ability of AD rats, which mainly manifested as shortened escape latency, leng-thened time in target quadrants and elevated number of crossing the platform(P<0.05 or P<0.01), remarkably activated mitophagy(P<0.05), up-regulated the protein expression of PINK1 and Parkin, and down-regulated the protein expression of LC3BⅠ/LC3BⅡ and p62(P<0.05 or P<0.01). These results demonstrated that DSP might promote mitophagy mediated by PINK1-Parkin pathway to remove damaged mitochondria and improve mitochondrial function, thereby exerting a neuroprotective effect.

An Ir(I)/squaramide cooperative catalytic strategy for atroposelective synthesis of axially chiral aryltriazoles has been developed for the first time. Diverse structurally novel aryltriazole skeletons that cannot be accessed by traditional click reactions were synthesized in good yields with excellent enantioselectivity. Both enantiomers were easily obtained from a pair of diastereoisomeric natural quinidine- and quinine-derived squaramides. A significant Ir(I)/squaramide coordination activation, but no self-quenching phenomenon was observed in this metal/organo cooperative catalytic system.

Co3O4-MoSe2@C nanocomposite has been prepared by a convenient method via combining hydrothermally synthesized MoSe2@C and Co3O4. When catalyzing the hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction, the catalyst features low overpotentials of 144 mV and 360 mV (both at 10 mA cm-2current density), respectively. It can also serve as the cathode in the lithium-oxygen battery and the device shows a low charging-discharging overpotential of 1.50 V with a stable performance of over 200 cycles at current density of 1000 mA g-1, shedding light on the design and synthesis of novel multifunctional electrocatalysts for energy conversions.

BACKGROUND: The hypothalamus plays a central role in the pathophysiology of migraine and is considered to be the "migraine generator." It participates in initiating a migraine attack through its connectivity to regions of the brain involved in processing and modulating pain. However, the underlying mechanisms of hypothalamic effective functional connectivity that bring about migraines remain unclear. This study investigated the hypothalamus-based directional effective connectivity in migraine without aura patients and assessed associations among the clinical characteristics. METHODS: Seven patients with migraine without aura during the attack (MWoA-DA) (four with photophobia (MWoA-DAWP) and three without photophobia (MWoA-DAWoP)), twenty-seven patients with migraine without aura during the interictal period (MWoA-DI), and twenty-nine healthy controls (HC) were included in this study. Granger causality analysis (GCA) was used to investigate the directional effective connectivity between the hypothalamus and other brain regions. RESULTS: MWoA-DA patients exhibited decreased outflow from the bilateral hypothalamus to the visual cortex compared with the MWoA-DI patients and HCs. The MWoA-DAWP group primarily contributed to this result. The MWoA-DA patients showed decreased outflow from the bilateral hypothalamus to the right inferior parietal gyrus compared with the HCs. The visual analogue scale (VAS) was negatively correlated with abnormal effective functional connectivity from the right hypothalamus to the right inferior parietal gyrus in the MWoA-DA group. CONCLUSIONS: These data provide evidence that the hypothalamus might serve as a central component of a multisystem network implicated in migraine and ictal photophobia, which includes hypothalamus and the visual and trigeminovascular systems.

Cadmium (Cd) is one of the most toxic environmental pollutants. Quercetin (Que) is a kind of natural flavonoid with neuroprotective, antioxidant, and free-radical scavenging pharmacological activities. However, whether Que has the protective effect of on Cd-induced rat hepatocyte injury is unclear. This study aimed to determine the protective effect of Que on Cd-induced hepatotoxicity in vivo and in vitro. For in vivo, 36 4-week-old male SD rats were randomly divided into six groups and were treated with CdCl2 (2 mg/kg b.w.) and/or Que (50 or 100 mg/kg b.w.). Four weeks later, the rats were sacrificed and livers were collected. The levels of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, glutathione, malondialdehyde, catalase, and superoxide dismutase were measured. Liver histopathological sections were made, and TUNEL method was performed to detect cell apoptosis. The mRNA and protein expression levels of endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) signaling pathway-related factors and apoptosis-related factors were detected. For in vitro, BRL-3A rat cells were treated with CdCl2 (12.5 µM) and/or Que (5 µM Que). The mRNA and protein expression levels of ERS signaling pathway-related factors and apoptosis-related factors were detected. Results showed that Cd led to liver injury, disorder of hepatocyte morphology and structure, decreased BRL-3A cells viabilities, increased oxidative damage. The mRNA and protein expression levels of ERS related factors GRP78, PERK, eIF2α, ATF4, CHOP, IRE1α, XBP1, and ATF6 increased. The mRNA and protein levels of apoptosis related factors Caspase12, Caspase3, and Bax increased, whereas Bcl2 decreased. It indicated that cadmium could activate PERK-eIF2α-ATF4-CHOP, IRE1α-XBP1, and ATF6-CHOP ERS-related signal pathways and lead to apoptosis. Moreover, Que can improve the vitality of hepatocytes, and effectively reduce hepatocytes damage, and reduce oxidative damage by Cd. As a result, the mRNA and protein expression levels of ERS related factors were reduced and hepatocyte apoptosis related factors decreased. Therefore, Que can be used as an effective component in daily diet to prevent Cd toxicity.

Periodontal ligament derived stem cells (PDLSC) are adult multipotent mesenchymal-like stem cells (MSCs) that can induce a promising immunomodulation to interact with immune cells for disease treatment. Metabolic reconfiguration has been shown to be involved in the immunomodulatory activity of MSCs. However, the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown, and it remains a challenging to establish a therapeutic avenue to enhance immunomodulation of endogenous stem cells for disease management. In the present study, RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis explores that curcumin significantly promotes PDLSC function through activation of MSC-related markers and metabolic pathways. In vitro stem cell characterization further confirms that self-renewal and multipotent differentiation capabilities are largely elevated in curcumin treated PDLSCs. Mechanistically, RNA-seq reveals that curcumin activates ERK and mTOR cascades through upregulating growth factor pathways for metabolic reconfiguration toward glycolysis. Interestingly, PDLSCs immunomodulation is significantly increased after curcumin treatment through activation of prostaglandin E2-Indoleamine 2,3 dioxygenase (PGE2-IDO) signaling, whereas inhibition of glycolysis activity by 2-deoxyglucose (2-DG) largely blocked immunomodulatory capacity of PDLSCs. Taken together, this study provides a novel pharmacological approach to activate endogenous stem cells through metabolic reprogramming for immunomodulation and tissue regeneration.

We used next-generation QTAIM (NG-QTAIM) to explain the cis-effect for two families of molecules: C2X2 (X = H, F, Cl) and N2X2 (X = H, F, Cl). We explained why the cis-effect is the exception rather than the rule. This was undertaken by tracking the motion of the bond critical point (BCP) of the stress tensor trajectories Tσ(s) used to sample the Uσ-space cis- and trans-characteristics. The Tσ(s) were constructed by subjecting the C1-C2 BCP and N1-N2 BCP to torsions ± θ and summing all possible Tσ(s) from the bonding environment. During this process, care was taken to fully account for multi-reference effects. We associated bond-bending and bond-twisting components of the Tσ(s) with cis- and trans-characteristics, respectively, based on the relative ease of motion of the electronic charge density ρ(rb). Qualitative agreement is found with existing experimental data and predictions are made where experimental data is not available.
