RESUMO

In n-i-p type perovskite solar cells (PSCs), mismatches in energy level and lattice at the buried interface is highly detrimental to device performance. Here, thin PbS interconnect layer in situ coating on the SnO2 surface is grown. The function of PbS at the interface is different from the commonly used function of crystalline seeds in perovskite bulk. The theoretical calculation show that it helps construct an interconnect structure of SnO2/PbS/Perovskite with matched energy level and lattice. This not only increases conductivity of SnO2, but also upshifts Fermi energy levels (EF) of both SnO2 and buried perovskite due to charge transfer and perovskite's internal defect changes. Such a suitable energy level arrangement ensures a better energy level match at the interface, favoring efficient charge transfer and less open circuit voltage (Voc) loss. Additionally, in situ PL reveals that the template effect of PbS enable perovskite grain to grow bottom-up because of their highly matched lattice parameters. This growth mode optimizes buried interface contact and crystallinity of perovskite. Ultimately, after PbS modification, a remarkable power conversion efficiency (PCE) exceeding 24% and better device stability are obtained. This work demonstrates an effective interconnect layers strategy to realize ideal interface contact toward high-performance PSCs.

RESUMO

Severe nonradiative recombination and open-circuit voltage loss triggered by high-density interface defects greatly restrict the continuous improvement of Sn-based perovskite solar cells (Sn-PVSCs). Herein, a novel amphoteric semiconductor, O-pivaloylhydroxylammonium trifluoromethanesulfonate (PHAAT), is developed to manage interface defects and carrier dynamics of Sn-PVSCs. The amphiphilic ionic modulators containing multiple Lewis-base functional groups can synergistically passivate anionic and cationic defects while coordinating with uncoordinated Sn2+ to compensate for surface charge and alleviate the Sn2+ oxidation. Especially, the sulfonate anions raise the energy barrier of surface oxidation, relieve lattice distortion, and inhibit nonradiative recombination by passivating Sn-related and I-related deep-level defects. Furthermore, the strong coupling between PHAAT and Sn perovskite induces the transition of the surface electronic state from p-type to n-type, thus creating an extra back-surface field to accelerate electron extraction. Consequently, the PHAAT-treated device exhibits a champion efficiency of 13.94% with negligible hysteresis. The device without any encapsulation maintains 94.7% of its initial PCE after 2000 h of storage and 91.6% of its initial PCE after 1000 h of continuous illumination. This work provides a reliable strategy to passivate interface defects and construct p-n homojunction to realize efficient and stable Sn-based perovskite photovoltaic devices.

RESUMO

The interface of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) plays an important role in transferring and collecting charges. Interface defects are important factors affecting the efficiency and stability of PSCs. Here, the buried interface between SnO2 and the perovskite layer is bridged by two-dimensional (2D) MBene, which improves charge transfer. MBene can deposit additional electrons on the surface of SnO2, passivate its surface defects and facilitate the charge collection. Moreover, the dipole moment formed at the interface increases the electron transfer ability in the PSCs. MBene also regulates the growth of perovskite crystals, improves the quality of perovskite films, and reduces its grain boundary defects. As a result, PSCs based on FA0.2MA0.8PbI3 and (FAPbI3)0.95(MAPbBr3)0.05 get the enhanced efficiencies of 22.34 % and 24.32 % with negligible hysteresis. Furthermore, the optimized device exhibits better stability. This work opens up the application of MBene materials in PSCs, reveals a deeper understanding of the mechanism behind using 2D materials as an interface modification layer, and shows opportunities for using MBene as potential material in photoelectric devices.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The exosomal long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to have cardioprotective effects on ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury by hindering ferroptosis, but the role of lncRNA Mir9-3 host gene (Mir9-3hg) in cardiac I/R injury remains unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS: Exosomes were extracted from mouse bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and identified by detecting the exosome specific marker levels, and the results showed that Mir9-3hg was highly expressed in BMSCs-Exo. Hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-treated HL-1 mouse cardiomyocytes were incubated with exosomes extracted from BMSCs transfected with Mir9-3hg siRNA. BMSCs-Exo incubation observably facilitated cell proliferation, increased glutathione (GSH) content, and reduced iron ion concentration, reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and ferroptosis marker protein levels in H/R-treated cells, while interfering Mir9-3hg reversed these effects. RNA binding protein immunoprecipitation assay was found that Mir9-3hg bound with pumilio RNA binding family member 2 (Pum2) protein and downregulated Pum2 expression. Silence of Pum2 reversed the effects of Mir9-3hg inhibition on cell functions. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assay was revealed that Pum2 bound with peroxiredoxin 6 (PRDX6) promoter and restrained PRDX6 expression. Silence of PRDX6 reversed the improved effects of Pum2 downregulation on cell functions. Additionally, BMSCs-Exo treatment ameliorated cardiac function in I/R-treated mice by inhibiting cardiomyocyte ferroptosis. CONCLUSIONS: BMSCs-Exo treatment attenuates I/R-induced cardiac injury by inhibiting cardiomyocyte ferroptosis through modulating the Pum2/PRDX6 axis, thereby ameliorating cardiac function.

RESUMO

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their secreted exosomes exert a cardioprotective role in jeopardized myocardium. However, the specific effects and underlying mechanisms of exosomes derived from adipose-derived MSCs (ADMSCs) on myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury remain largely unclear. In this study, ADMSC-derived exosomes (ADMSCs-ex) were administrated into the rats subjected to I/R injury and H9c2 cells exposed to hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R). Consequently, administration of ADMSCs-ex significantly reduced I/R-induced myocardial infarction, accompanied with a decrease in serum levels of creatine kinase-myocardial band, lactate dehydrogenase, and cardiac troponin I (cTnI). Simultaneously, ADMSCs-ex dramatically antagonized I/R-induced myocardial apoptosis, along with the upregulation of Bcl-2 and downregulation of Bax, and inhibition of Caspase 3 activity in rat myocardium. Similarly, ADMSCs-ex significantly reduced cell apoptosis and the expression of Bax, but markedly increased cell viability and the expression of Bcl-2 and Cyclin D1 under H/R. Furthermore, ADMSCs-ex observably induced the activation of Wnt/ß-catenin signaling by attenuating I/R- and H/R-induced inhibition of Wnt3a, p-GSK-3ß (Ser9), and ß-catenin expression. Importantly, treatment with Wnt/ß-catenin inhibitor XAV939 partly neutralized ADMSC-ex-induced antiapoptotic and prosurvival effects in H9c2 cells. In conclusion, we confirmed that ADMSCs-ex protect ischemic myocardium from I/R injury through the activation of Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hypoxia is a well-known factor in the promotion of apoptosis, which contributes to the development of numerous cardiac diseases, such as heart failure and myocardial infarction. Inhibiting apoptosis is an important therapeutic strategy for the treatment of related heart diseases caused by ischemia/hypoxic injury. Previous studies have demonstrated that BAG3 plays an important role in cardiomyocyte apoptosis and survival. However, the role of BAG3 in hypoxia-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis remains to be clarified. Here, we demonstrate that BAG3 is induced by hypoxia stimuli in cultured cardiomyocytes. METHODS: BAG3 expression level was measured in H9c2 cells treated with hypoxia for 48 h. Cell proliferation and apoptosis were tested using MTT assay and Annexin V FITC-PI staining assay, respectively. The mRNA or protein expression level of BAG3, LC3-I, LC3-II, Atg5, NF-x03BA;B p65 and phosphorylated NF-x03BA;B p65 were assessed by qRT-PCR and western blot assay, respectively. Resluts: Overexpression of BAG3 inhibited cell apoptosis and promoted proliferation in hypoxia-injured H9c2 cells. Furthermore, autophagy and NF-x03BA;B were activated by BAG3 overexpression, and the NF-x03BA;B inhibitor PDTC could inhibit the activation of autophagy induced by BAG3 overexpression. In addition, the autophagy inhibitor 3-MA partly impeded the inhibitory effect of BAG3 on hypoxia-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis. CONCLUSION: these results suggested that overexpression of BAG3 promoted cell proliferation and inhibited apoptosis by activating autophagy though the NF-x03BA;B signaling pathway in hypoxia-injured cardiomyocytes.

RESUMO

With the rapid improvement of power conversion efficiency (PCE), perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have broad application prospects and their industrialization will be the next step. Nevertheless, the performance and long-term stability of the devices are limited by the defect-induced nonradiative recombination centers and ions' migration inside the perovskite films. Here, usnic acid (UA), an easy-to-obtain and efficient natural biomaterial with a hydroxyl functional group (-OH) and four carbonyl groups (-C═O) was added to MAPbI3 perovskite precursor to regulate the crystallization process by slowing the crystallization rate, thereby expanding the crystal size and preparing perovskite films with low defect density. In addition, UA anchors the uncoordinated Pb2+ and suppresses the migration of I-ions, which enhances the stability of the perovskite film. Consequently, an impressive PCE exceeding 20% was achieved for inverted structure MAPbI3-based PSCs. More impressively, the optimized PSCs maintained 78% of the initial PCE under air with high humidity (RH ≈ 65%, 25-30 °C) for 1000 h. UA can be extracted from the plant, usnea, making it inexpensive and easy to obtain. Our work demonstrates the application of the plant material in PSCs and their industrialization, which is significant nowadays.

RESUMO

Developing high-quality perovskite wafers is essential for integrating perovskite technology throughout the chip industry chain. In this article, a spontaneous cooling strategy with a hot-pressing technique is presented to develop high-purity, wafer-scale, pinhole-free perovskite wafers with a reflective surface. This method can be extended to a variety of perovskite wafers, including organic-inorganic, 2D, and lead-free perovskites. Besides, the size of the wafer with diameters of 10, 15, and 20 mm can be tailored by changing the mold. Furthermore, the mechanism of spontaneous cooling for improving the quality of perovskite wafers is revealed. Finally, the high-quality lead-free Cs3Cu2I5 perovskite wafers demonstrate excellent X-ray detection performances with a high sensitivity of 3433.6 µC Gyair -1 cm-2 and a low detection limit of 33.17 nGyair s-1. Moreover, the Cs3Cu2I5 wafers exhibit outstanding environmental and operational stability even without encapsulation. These research presents a spontaneous cooling strategy to achieve wafer-scale, high-quality perovskites with mirror-like surfaces for X-ray detection, paving the way for integrating perovskites into electronic and optoelectronic devices and promoting the practical application of perovskite X-ray detectors.

RESUMO

Despite the fact that perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are widely popular due to their superb power conversion efficiency (PCE), their further applications are still restricted by low stability and high-density defects. Especially, the weak binding and ion-electron properties of perovskite crystals make them susceptible to moisture attack under environmental stress. Herein, we report an overall sulfidation strategy via introduction of 1-pentanethiol (PT) into the perovskite film to inhibit bulk defects and stabilize Pb ions. It has been confirmed that the thiol groups in PT can stabilize uncoordinated Pb ions and passivate iodine vacancy defects by forming strong Pb-S bonds, thus reducing nonradiative recombination. Moreover, the favorable passivation process also optimizes the energy-level arrangement, induces better perovskite crystallization, and enhances the charge extraction in the full solar cells. Consequently, the PT-modified inverted device delivers a champion PCE of 22.46%, which is superior to that of the control device (20.21%). More importantly, the PT-modified device retains 91.5% of its initial PCE after storage in air for 1600 h and over 85% of its initial PCE after heating at 85 °C for 800 h. This work provides a new perspective to simultaneously improve the performance and stability of PSCs to satisfy their commercial applications.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To explore the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), the potential targets and signaling pathways of ginsenoside Rg1 against AD were investigated by network pharmacology. METHODS: Ginsenoside Rg1 targets were identified through PubChem, PharmMapper, and Uniprot databases, while the GeneCards database was used to examine the respective targets of amyloid precursor protein (APP) and AD. Then, the common targets between ginsenoside Rg1 and APP were explored by the Venny tool, the interaction network diagram between the active components and the targets was built via Cytoscape software, as well as GO enrichment and KEGG pathway annotation analysis were performed. Furthermore, genes associated with ferroptosis were found by the GeneCards and FerrDb databases. Besides, the connection among ginsenoside Rg1, APP, ferroptosis, and AD was predicted and analyzed. Finally, the effects of ginsenosides Rg1 and liproxstain-1 on the proliferation and differentiation of APP/PS1 mice were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: Ginsenoside Rg1, APP, ferroptosis, and AD had 12 hub genes. GO enrichment and KEGG pathway annotation analysis showed that EGFR, SRC, protein hydrolysis, protein phosphorylation, the Relaxin pathway, and the FoxO signaling pathway play an important role in the potential mechanism of ginsenoside Rg1's under regulation of ferroptosis anti-AD through the modulation of APP-related signaling pathways. The APP/PS1 mice experiment verified that ginsenosides Rg1 and liproxstain-1 can promote the proliferation and differentiation. CONCLUSION: Ginsenoside Rg1, APP and ferroptosis may act on EGFR, SRC, the Relaxin and FoxO signaling pathways to regulate protein metabolism, protein phosphorylation and other pathways to improve AD symptoms.

RESUMO

This study employed rice husks (RH), corn stalks (CS), and camphor leaves (CL) as biomass sources to prepare iron-loaded biochar catalysts, elucidating the key relationships between these biomass materials, their catalytic performance, and their resistance to deactivation in toluene. Experimental results indicated that the carbon deposits in the three spent catalysts are primarily composed of inert carbon (Cγ). The carbon peaks in these deposits primarily consisted of CO, CC, and CO structures, with varying proportions across the different types of spent catalysts. Specifically, the RH spent catalyst exhibited the highest relative content of the CO structure at 13.49 %, the CS spent catalyst showed the highest relative content of the CC structure at 89.19 %, and the CL spent catalyst displayed the highest relative content of the CO structure at 5.57 %. Fe2+ was the predominant species on the surfaces of all three spent catalysts, accounting for over 50 % in each case. Fe3C was detected on the surfaces of the CS and CL spent catalysts but was absent on the RH spent catalyst. After 80 min of reaction, the carbon deposition rate of the CL catalyst was 8.15 %, with a catalytic cracking efficiency of 28.04 %, making it the most effective overall. This effectiveness was attributed to the CL catalyst's highest oxygen vacancy intensity, where the abundant oxygen source effectively promoted the catalytic reaction of toluene and inhibited carbon deposition. After three consecutive regeneration cycles, the catalytic cracking efficiency of the CL catalyst remained above 70 %, demonstrating strong cyclic regeneration performance. This study provides theoretical insights into the effective utilization of agricultural and forestry waste, contributing to environmental protection.

RESUMO

The present study utilized rice husk biomass as a carrier to synthesize rice husk biochar loaded with iron and nickel. Mono-metallic and bimetallic catalysts were prepared for the removal of toluene as the tar model. The efficiency of the catalysts for the removal of toluene was investigated, and finally, the removal mechanisms of mono-metallic and bimetallic catalysts for toluene were revealed. The experimental results showed that the bimetallic-loaded biochar catalysts had excellent toluene removal performance, which was closely related to the ratio of loaded Fe and Ni. Among them, the catalyst DBC-Fe2.5 %-Ni2.5 % (2.5 wt% iron loading and 2.5 wt% nickel loading) obtained through secondary calcination at 700 °C achieved the highest toluene removal efficiency of 92.76 %. The elements of Fe and Ni in the catalyst were uniformly dispersed on the surface and in the pores of the biochar, and the catalyst had a layered structure with good adsorption. Under the interaction of Fe and Ni, the agglomeration and sintering of Ni were reduced, and the surface acidity of the catalyst was increased, the surface acidity was favorable for toluene removal. The ironnickel catalyst did not form significant alloys when calcined at 400 °C, whereas strong metal interactions occurred at 700 °C, resulting in the formation of Fe0.64Ni0.36 alloy and NiFe2O4 alloy. This NiFe alloy had abundant active sites to enhance the catalytic cracking of toluene and provide lattice oxygen for the reaction. Furthermore, the functional groups on the catalyst surface also had an impact on toluene removal. The catalyst prepared in this paper reduces the cost of tar removal, can be applied to the removal of industrial pollutant tars, reduces the pollution of the environment, and provides theoretical guidance and technical reference for the efficient removal of tar.

RESUMO

The functional group is the main body in modifying the perovskite film, and different functional groups lead to different modification effects. Here, several conjugated triazine-based small molecules such as melamine (Cy-NH2), cyanuric acid (Cy-OH), cyanuric fluoride (Cy-F), cyanuric chloride (Cy-Cl), and thiocyanuric acid (Cy-SH) are used to modify perovskite films by mixing in antisolvent. The crystallizations of perovskites are optimized by these molecules, and the perovskite films with low trap density are obtained by forming Lewis adducts with these molecules (Pb2+ and electron-donating groups including -NH2, C═N-, and C═O; I- and electron-withdrawing groups including F, Cl, N-H, and O-H). Especially for the Cy-F and Cy-Cl, the heterojunction structure is formed in the perovskite layer by p-type modification, which is conducive to charge transfer and collection in PSCs. Compared with that of control devices, the performance of devices with trap passivation and heterojunction engineering is obviously improved from 18.49 to 20.71% for MAPbI3 and 19.27 to 21.11% for FA0.85Cs0.15PbI3. Notably, the excellent moisture (retaining 67%, RH: 50% for 20 days) and thermal (retaining 64%, 85 °C for 72 h) stability of PSCs are obtained by a kind of second modification (Cy-F/Cy-SH)─spin-coating a few Cy-SH on the Cy-F-modified perovskite film surface. It also reduces Pb pollution because Cy-SH is a highly potent chelating agent. Therefore, this work also provides an effective method to obtain high-performance, stable, and low-lead pollution PSCs, combining trap passivation, heterojunction engineering, and surface treatment.

RESUMO

The Arctic has experienced several extreme springtime stratospheric ozone depletion events over the past four decades, particularly in 1997, 2011 and 2020. However, the impact of this stratospheric ozone depletion on the climate system remains poorly understood. Here we show that the stratospheric ozone depletion causes significant reductions in the sea ice concentration (SIC) and the sea ice thickness (SIT) over the Kara Sea, Laptev Sea and East Siberian Sea from spring to summer. This is partially caused by enhanced ice transport from Barents-Kara Sea and East Siberian Sea to the Fram Strait, which is induced by a strengthened and longer lived polar vortex associated with stratospheric ozone depletion. Additionally, cloud longwave radiation and surface albedo feedbacks enhance the melting of Arctic sea ice, particularly along the coast of the Eurasian continent. This study highlights the need for realistic representation of stratosphere-troposphere interactions in order to accurately predict Arctic sea ice loss.

RESUMO

The poor survival and differentiation of the donor cells in the infarcted myocardium has hampered the therapeutic efficacy of cell transplantation. A self-assembling polypeptide RAD16-II (Ac-RARADADARARADADA-CONH2) spontaneously assembles into stable nanofiber scaffolds, which mimic natural extracellular matrix at 0.1-1% peptide concentrations in the myocardium. We isolated mesenchymal stem cells from the bone marrow of adult male rats that express both c-kit and Nkx2.5, a cardiac transcription factor, yielding selected mesenchymal stem cells (SMSCs). We initially confirmed that the self-assembling polypeptide scaffolds are conducive to growth, survival and differentiation of SMSCs in vitro. Subsequently, SMSCs mixed with the self-assembling polypeptide were injected into the infarcted area at 30 min after the establishment of myocardial infarction in female rats. The donor cells were tracked with Y chromosome in the myocardium. The changes of cardiac function, myocardial structure and capillary density were detected at 4 weeks after cell transplantation. The hearts transplanted with SMSCs incorporated into the nanofiber scaffolds showed smaller infarction size (19.55 ± 2.1%) than the hearts injected with SMSCs (27.37 ± 4.8%). Importantly, the systolic function indices, left ventricle ejection fraction and left ventricle fractional shortening, were significantly improved in the animals transplanted with SMSCs mixed with the nanofiber scaffolds (59.31 ± 4.9% and 31.91 ± 8.1%), compared to those with SMSCs alone (48.31 ± 9.2% and 23.58 ± 8.5%). In conclusion, transplantation of SMSCs mixed with the self-assembling polypeptide RAD16-II is more effective to promote myocardial regeneration and attenuate cardiac injury in a rat model of myocardial infarction.

RESUMO

Hole transport layer NiOx-based inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have advantages of simple fabrication, low temperature, and low cost. Furthermore, the p-type NiOx material compared to that of typical n-type SnOx for PSCs has better photostability potential due to its lower photocatalytic ability. However, the NiOx layer modified by some typical materials show relatively simple functions, which limit the synthesized performance of NiOx-based inverted PSCs. Phenethyl ammonium iodide (PEAI) was introduced to modify the NiOx/perovskite interface, which can synchronously contribute to better crystallinity and stability of the perovskite layer, passivating interface defects, formed quasi-two-dimensional PEA2PbI4 perovskite layers, and superior interface contact properties. The PCEs of PSCs with the PEAI-modified NiOx/perovskite interface was obviously increased from 20.31 from 16.54% compared to that of the reference PSCs. The PSCs with PEAI modification remained 75 and 72% of the original PCE values aging for 10 h at 85 °C and 65 days in a relative humidity of 15%, which are superior to the original PCE values (47 and 51%, respectively) for the reference PSCs. Therefore, PSCs with the PEAI-modified NiOx/perovskite interface show higher PCEs and better thermal stability and moisture resistance.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Chitosan (CS) and polycaprolactone (PCL) were added into a nerve scaffold of poly(L-lactide acid) (PLLA)/polypyrrole (PPy)-based fibre films to solve the unmatch with the nerve strength and the aseptic inflammation from PLLA. METHODS: Poly (L-lactide acid)-polycaprolactone (PLLA/PCL) fibre films coated with chitosan (CS) and polypyrrole (PPy) were prepared by electrospinning of aligned PLLA/PCL fibres, electrochemical deposition of PPy nanoparticles and in situ doping of CS in PPy. PC12 cells were electrically stimulated with 100 mV for 2 hours every day via CS/PPy-PLLA/PCL fibre film to promote the neurite growth. RESULTS: The surface conductivity and tensile strength of CS/PPy-PLLA/PCL fibre films were 1.03 s/m and 13 MPa, respectively. CS content in fibre films was about 7.5 mg/cm2 , improving the pH value (reached to 5.1) of immersion solution of the fibre film at 16 days. Compared with PPy-PLLA/PCL fibre film, more and longer axons were grown out from PC12 cells cultured on CS/PPy-PLLA/PCL fibre film, indicating the positive effect of CS in fibre film on axon growth. The cell differentiation rate and neurite length on CS/PPy-PLLA/PCL fibre film reached to 38% and 75 µm, respectively. These results suggest the promotion of electrical stimulation on neurite growth and alignment. CONCLUSIONS: A synergistic mechanism about the promotion of CS, electrical stimulation and aligned fibres on PC12 cells differentiation, axon outgrowth was proposed. RESUMO

Planar perovskite solar cells (PSCs) that use nickel oxide (NiOx) as a hole transport layer have recently attracted tremendous attention because of their excellent photovoltaic efficiencies and simple fabrication. However, the electrical conductivity of NiOx and the interface contact properties of the NiOx/perovskite layer are always limited for the NiOx layer fabricated at a relatively low annealing temperature. Ferrocenedicarboxylic acid (FDA) was firstly introduced to modify a p-type NiOx hole transport layer in PSCs, which obviously improves the crystallization of the perovskite layer and hole transport and collection abilities and reduces carrier recombination. PSCs with a FDA modified NiOx layer reached a PCE of 18.20%, which is much higher than the PCE (15.13%) of reference PSCs. Furthermore, PSCs with a FDA interfacial modification layer show better UV durability and a hysteresis-free effect and still maintain the original PCE value of 49.8%after being exposed to UV for 24 h. The enhanced performance of the PSCs is attributed to better crystallization of the perovskite layer, the passivation effect of FDA, superior interface contact at the NiOx/perovskite layers and enhancement of the electrical conductivity of the FDA modified NiOx layer. In addition, PSCs with FDA inserted at the interface of the perovskite/PCBM layers can also improve the PCE to 16.62%, indicating that FDA have dual functions to modify p-type and n-type carrier transporting layers.

RESUMO

The Montreal Protocol has succeeded in limiting major ozone-depleting substance emissions, and consequently stratospheric ozone concentrations are expected to recover this century. However, there is a large uncertainty in the rate of regional ozone recovery in the Northern Hemisphere. Here we identify a Eurasia-North America dipole mode in the total column ozone over the Northern Hemisphere, showing negative and positive total column ozone anomaly centres over Eurasia and North America, respectively. The positive trend of this mode explains an enhanced total column ozone decline over the Eurasian continent in the past three decades, which is closely related to the polar vortex shift towards Eurasia. Multiple chemistry-climate-model simulations indicate that the positive Eurasia-North America dipole trend in late winter is likely to continue in the near future. Our findings suggest that the anticipated ozone recovery in late winter will be sensitive not only to the ozone-depleting substance decline but also to the polar vortex changes, and could be substantially delayed in some regions of the Northern Hemisphere extratropics.

RESUMO

Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-triggered cardiac cell injury is recognized as the major contributor for the pathogenesis progression of ischaemic cardiovascular diseases. Sulfiredoxin-1 (Srx-1) is an endogenous antioxidant and exerts the crucial neuroprotective effects in cerebral ischaemia. However, its function and the underlying mechanism in ischaemic heart diseases remain poorly defined. Here, a dramatical decrease in Srx-1 was validated in H9c2 cardiomyocytes upon simulated ischaemia-reperfusion (SI/R) injury. Moreover, Srx-1 protected H9c2 cells from SI/R-injured injury as the evidences that Srx-1 up-regulation attenuated the inhibitory effects on cell viability, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and cell apoptosis upon SI/R treatment. Knockdown of Srx-1 accelerated cell injury upon SI/R. Mechanism assay corroborated that SI/R treatment noticeably aggravated the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (Δψm), which was remarkably abated in Ad-Srx-1 groups. Importantly, Srx-1 elevation substantially reduced cytochrome c release, the activity of caspase-9 and caspase-3, accompany with the subsequent decrease in the cleavage of poly (ADP ribose) polymerase (PARP). Concomitantly, overexpression of Srx-1 also decreased the expression of pro-apoptosis protein Bax and increased anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 expression. Further analysis substantiated that Srx-1 treatment remarkably induced the activation of PI3K/AKT signalling. Preconditioning with LY294002 dramatically decreased Srx-1-enhanced cell resistance to SI/R injury. Importantly, LY294002 mitigated the inhibitory effects of Srx-1 on Δψm loss, cytochrome c release, caspase-9/3 activity, and the expression of Bcl-2 family. Together, these results suggested that Srx-1 might protect cardiomyocyte injury upon SI/R by suppressing PI3K/AKT-mediated mitochondria dependent apoptosis, revealing a promising therapeutic agent against ischaemic cardiovascular diseases.
