RESUMO

Low back pain is a common clinical symptom of intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), which seriously affects the quality of life of the patients. The abnormal apoptosis and senescence of nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) play important roles in the pathogenesis of IVDD. PHLDA2 is an imprinted gene related to cell apoptosis and tumour progression. However, its role in NPC degeneration is not yet clear. Therefore, this study was set to explore the effects of PHLDA2 on NPC senescence and apoptosis and the underlying mechanisms. The expression of PHLDA2 was examined in human nucleus pulposus (NP) tissues and NPCs. Immunohistochemical staining, magnetic resonance imaging imaging and western blot were performed to evaluate the phenotypes of intervertebral discs. Senescence and apoptosis of NPCs were assessed by SA-ß-galactosidase, flow cytometry and western blot. Mitochondrial function was investigated by JC-1 staining and transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the expression level of PHLDA2 was abnormally elevated in degenerated human NP tissues and NPCs. Furthermore, knockdown of PHLDA2 can significantly inhibit senescence and apoptosis of NPCs, whereas overexpression of PHLDA2 can reverse senescence and apoptosis of NPCs in vitro. In vivo experiment further confirmed that PHLDA2 knockdown could alleviate IVDD in rats. Knockdown of PHLDA2 could also reverse senescence and apoptosis in IL-1ß-treated NPCs. JC-1 staining indicated PHLDA2's knockdown impaired disruption of the mitochondrial membrane potential and also ameliorated superstructural destruction of NPCs as showed by transmission electron microscopy. Finally, we found the PHLDA2 knockdown promoted Collagen-II expression and suppressed MMP3 expression in NPCs by repressing wnt/ß-catenin pathway. In conclusion, the results of the present study showed that PHLDA2 promotes IL-1ß-induced apoptosis and senescence of NP cells via mitochondrial route by activating the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway, and suggested that therapy targeting PHLDA2 may provide valuable insights into possible IVDD therapies.

RESUMO

Membranous nephropathy (MN) is a rare complication that can occur after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). MN patients may develop nephrotic syndrome or even kidney failure, which greatly affects their quality of life and prognosis. However, current knowledge regarding MN after allo-HSCT is limited. Thus, a multicenter nested case‒control study was conducted. Patients who had been diagnosed with MN after allo-HSCT were retrospectively identified at 8 HSCT centers. A total of 51 patients with MN after allo-HSCT were included. The median age of MN patients after allo-HSCT was 38 years, and the median duration from HSCT to MN was 18 months. The use of HLA-matched donors (P = 0.0102) and peripheral blood as the graft source (P = 0.0060) were identified as independent predisposing risk factors for the onset of MN after allo-HSCT. Compared to those in the control group, the incidence of extensive chronic graft-versus-host disease was greater in the MN patients (P = 0.0002). A total of 31 patients developed nephrotic syndrome. Patients receiving combination treatments of corticosteroids and immunosuppressants appeared to have better outcomes. In conclusion, MN is a rare but occasionally severe complication following HSCT and may require active treatment.

RESUMO

The conversion of CO2 to generate high-value-added chemicals has become one of the hot research topics in green synthesis. Thereinto, the cyclization reaction of propargylic amines with CO2 is highly attractive because the resultant oxazolidinones are widely found in pharmaceutical chemistry. Cu(I)-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as catalysts exhibit promising application prospects for CO2 conversion. However, their practical application was greatly limited due to Cu(I) being liable to disproportionation or oxidization. Herein, the solid copper(I) iodide thorium-based porous framework {[Cu5I6Th6(µ3-O)4(µ3-OH)4(H2O)10(L)10]·OH·4DMF·H2O}n (1) (HL = 2-methylpyridine-4-carboxylic acid) constructed by [Th6] clusters and [CuxIy] subunits was successfully prepared and structurally characterized. To our knowledge, this is the first copper(I) iodide-based actinide organic framework. Catalytic investigations indicate that 1 can effectively catalyze the cyclization of propargylic amines with CO2 under ambient conditions, which can be reused at least five times without a remarkable decline of catalytic activity. Importantly, 1 exhibits excellent chemical stability and the oxidation state of Cu(I) in it can remain stable under various conditions. This work can provide a valuable strategy for the synthesis of stable Cu(I)-MOF materials.

RESUMO

Developing efficient heterogeneous catalysts for chemical fixation of CO2 to produce high-value-added chemicals under mild conditions is highly desired but still challenging. Herein, we first reported an approach to prepare a novel catalyst (Ag@NCNFs), featuring Ag nanoparticles (NPs) embedded within porous nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (NCNFs), via growing a Ag metal-organic framework on one-dimensional electrospun nanofibers followed by pyrolysis. Benefiting from the abundant nitrogen species and porous structure, Ag NPs is well dispersed in the obtained Ag@NCNFs. Catalytic studies indicated that Ag@NCNFs exhibited excellent catalytic activity for the three-component coupling reaction of CO2, secondary amines, and propargylic alcohols to generate ß-oxopropylcarbamates under mild conditions with a turnover number (TON) of 16.2, and it can be recycled and reused at least 5 times without an obvious decline in catalytic activity. The reaction mechanism was clearly clarified by FTIR, NMR, 13C isotope labeling, control experiments, and density functional theory calculations. The results suggest that Ag@NCNFs and 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene can synergistically activate propargylic alcohol to react with CO2, and then the generated α-alkylidene cyclic carbonate was invaded by secondary amine to produce ß-oxopropylcarbamate. Importantly, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first experimental and theoretical investigation on this reaction.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been reported to play important roles in cancers. Here, we characterized circVMP1 (hsa_circ_0006508), an important circRNA which promoted glycolysis and disease progression in colorectal cancer (CRC). In this study, we aimed to explore the mechanism by which circVMP1 regulated tumor glycolysis and its related pathways in promoting CRC cell proliferation and metastasis. METHODS: The expression level of circVMP1 in CRC tissues and adjacent normal tissues was detected using quantitative PCR. In vitro and in vivo functional experiments were used to evaluate the effects of circVMP1 in the regulation of CRC cell proliferation and migration. Mitochondrial stress tests and glycolysis stress tests were conducted to detect the effect of circVMP1 on oxidative phosphorylation and glycolysis. Dual-luciferase reporter and RNA immunoprecipitation assays were used to evaluate the interaction between circVMP1, miR-3167, and HKDC1. RESULTS: We demonstrated that the level of circVMP1 was significantly upregulated in CRC tissues compared with normal tissues. In HCT116 and SW480 cells, overexpression of circVMP1 promoted proliferation, metastasis, and glycolysis. In vivo analysis indicated that circVMP1 accelerated the proliferation of xenograft tumors. As for the mechanism, overexpression of circVMP1 increased the levels of hexokinase domain component 1 (HKDC1) through competitive binding with miR-3167. CONCLUSION: Our study reported that circVMP1 was one of the tumor driver genes that promoted CRC malignant progression and glycolysis by upregulating HKDC1. CircVMP1/miR-3167/HKDC1 was a signaling axis that might be a target for CRC therapy.

RESUMO

AIM: Although lipoproteins are well-established risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, conventional measurements failed to identify lipoprotein particle sizes. This study aimed to investigate associations of lipoprotein subclasses categorized by particle sizes with risk of all-cause and CVD mortality in individuals with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: This study included 6575 individuals with type 2 diabetes from the UK Biobank. Concentrations of very low-, low-, intermediate- and high-density lipoprotein [very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), intermediate-density lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein (HDL)] particles in 14 subclasses and lipid constituents within each subclass were measured by quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance. Multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional-hazard regression models were used to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) for per standard deviation increment of log-transformed lipoprotein subclasses with risk of mortality. All p-values were adjusted by the false discovery rate method. RESULTS: During a median follow-up of 11.4 years, 943 deaths were documented, including 310 CVD deaths. Small HDL particles were inversely associated with CVD mortality, with HR (95% CI) of 0.78 (0.69, 0.87), whereas very large and large HDL particles were positively associated with CVD mortality with HR (95% CI) of 1.28 (1.12, 1.45) and 1.19 (1.05, 1.35), respectively. A similar pattern was observed for all-cause mortality [small HDL particle (HR, 95% CI): 0.79, 0.74-0.85; large HDL particle: 1.15, 1.07-1.24; very large HDL particle: 1.26, 1.17-1.36]. For VLDL and LDL, very small VLDL particle was positively, while medium LDL particle was inversely associated with all-cause mortality, but not associated with CVD mortality. The pattern of association with all-cause and CVD mortality for cholesterol and triglyceride within lipoprotein particles was similar to those for lipoprotein particles themselves. CONCLUSIONS: The associations between lipoprotein particles, particularly HDL particles, with all-cause and CVD mortality among patients with type 2 diabetes were significantly varied by particle sizes, highlighting the importance of particle size as a lipoprotein metric in mortality risk discrimination.

RESUMO

Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) is a clonal hematopoietic stem cell malignancy, and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is the only curable treatment. The outcomes after transplant are influenced by both disease characteristics and patient comorbidities. To develop a novel prognostic model to predict the post-transplant survival of CMML patients, we identified risk factors by applying univariable and multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression to a derivation cohort. In multivariable analysis, advanced age (hazard ratio [HR] 3.583), leukocyte count (HR 3.499), anemia (HR 3.439), bone marrow blast cell count (HR 2.095), and no chronic graft versus host disease (cGVHD; HR 4.799) were independently associated with worse survival. A novel prognostic model termed ABLAG (Age, Blast, Leukocyte, Anemia, cGVHD) was developed and the points were assigned according to the regression equation. The patients were categorized into low risk (0-1), intermediate risk (2, 3), and high risk (4-6) three groups and the 3-year overall survival (OS) were 93.3% (95%CI, 61%-99%), 78.9% (95%CI, 60%-90%), and 51.6% (95%CI, 32%-68%; p < .001), respectively. In internal and external validation cohort, the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves of the ABLAG model were 0.829 (95% CI, 0.776-0.902) and 0.749 (95% CI, 0.684-0.854). Compared with existing models designed for the nontransplant setting, calibration plots, and decision curve analysis showed that the ABLAG model revealed a high consistency between predicted and observed outcomes and patients could benefit from this model. In conclusion, combining disease and patient characteristic, the ABLAG model provides better survival stratification for CMML patients receiving allo-HSCT.

RESUMO

A series of bifunctional Ln(III)-based coordination polymers (CPs) {Ln(L)(DMA)2(NO3)}n [Ln(III) = Eu (1), Gd (2), and Dy (3); organic ligand H2L = 2,2'-(1,3,5,7-tetrahydroxyoctahydro-4,8-ethanopyrrolo[3,4-f]isoindole-2,6(1H,3H)-diyl)diacetic acid)] have been successfully synthesized. CPs 1-3 are isostructural and constructed from the dimeric Ln2 unit in which two adjacent LnIII ions are bridged by two µ3-carboxyl oxygens, and the Ln2 dimeric unit is connected by two NO3- ions, four DMA molecules, and four completely protonated L2- ligands forming a 2D layer structure. The magnetic research reveals that CP 2 shows a significant cryogenic magnetocaloric effect (-ΔSm = 22.9 J kg-1 K-1; T = 2.0 K and ΔH = 7.0 T), whereas CP 3 exhibits slow magnetic relaxation property under Hdc = 0 Oe field. Additionally, the luminescence explorations revealed that CP 1 can act as a recyclable luminescent probe for pollutant acetylacetone among various small organic solvent molecules, and the corresponding detection limit is 10-7 mol/L. More importantly, CP 1 also exhibits good catalytic performance in the cycloaddition reaction of CO2 and epoxides or cyanamides under mild conditions. As far as we know, CP 1 represents the first bifunctional lanthanide homogeneous catalyst that can efficiently catalyze the reaction of cyanamides/epoxides with CO2 simultaneously.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: In recent years, more and more inflammatory indicators have been studied to predict the long-term survival of patients with ampullary carcinoma (AC) after radical resection, but these prognostic indicators are still controversial. Therefore, based on previous inflammation scores, this study established a novel, easily accessible, more feasible and more predictive prognostic marker [Carbohydrate antigen199 to gamma-glutamyltransferase ratio (CA19-9/GGT)] to better assess the prognostic significance in AC patients undergoing radical resection. METHODS: Overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) were analyzed by Cox regression model. Correlation between CA19-9/GGT and clinicopathological variables were analyzed by Chi-squared test, Fisher ' s exact test, independent sample t test and Mann-Whitney U test. The performance of prognostic indexes is compared by the consistency index (C-index). The prediction accuracy of nomogram is further confirmed by calibration curve and decision curve analysis (DCA). RESULTS: CA19-9/GGT was an independent risk factor affecting OS [P = 0.001, hazard ratio (HR) 2.459, 95% confidence intervals (CI) 1.450-4.167] and RFS (P = 0.002, HR 2.333, 95% CI 1.371-3.971) in multivariate analysis. The optimal cut-off value of CA19-9/GGT was 0.14. In CA19-9/GGT correlation analysis, high risk group (> 0.14) was significantly associated with poor prognosis. The predictive performance of CA19-9/GGT (OS: C-index = 0.753, RFS: C-index = 0.745) was confirmed to be superior to other prognostic indicators according to the C-index. Compared with the simple AJCC staging system, the Nomogram prediction model (OS: C-index = 0.787, RFS: C-index = 0.795) established by the combination of CA19-9/GGT and AJCC 8th TNM staging system has higher prediction accuracy. CONCLUSIONS: CA19-9/GGT was an independent prognostic indicator after radical resection of AC. Incorporating CA19-9/GGT into the AJCC TNM staging system optimized the prediction accuracy of the TNM staging system, and further verified the predictive value of CA19-9/GGT.

RESUMO

Bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is a global staple crop vital for human nutrition. Heading date (HD) and flowering date (FD) are critical traits influencing wheat growth, development, and adaptability to diverse environmental conditions. A comprehensive study were conducted involving 190 bread wheat accessions to unravel the genetic basis of HD and FD using high-throughput genotyping and multi-environment field trials. Seven independent quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were identified to be significantly associated with HD and FD using two GWAS methods, which explained a proportion of phenotypic variance ranging from 1.43% to 9.58%. Notably, QTLs overlapping with known vernalization genes Vrn-D1 were found, validating their roles in regulating flowering time. Moreover, novel QTLs on chromosome 2A, 5B, 5D, and 7B associated with HD and FD were identified. The effects of these QTLs on HD and FD were confirmed in an additional set of 74 accessions across different environments. An increase in the frequency of alleles associated with early flowering in cultivars released in recent years was also observed, suggesting the influence of molecular breeding strategies. In summary, this study enhances the understanding of the genetic regulation of HD and FD in bread wheat, offering valuable insights into crop improvement for enhanced adaptability and productivity under changing climatic conditions. These identified QTLs and associated markers have the potential to improve wheat breeding programs in developing climate-resilient varieties to ensure food security. RESUMO

Digital dental X-ray images are an important basis for diagnosing dental diseases, especially endodontic and periodontal diseases. Conventional diagnostic methods depend on the experience of doctors, so they are highly subjective and consume more energy than other approaches. The current computer-aided interpretation technology has low accuracy and poor lesion classification. This study proposes an efficient and accurate method for identifying common lesions in digital dental X-ray images by a convolutional neural network (CNN). In total, 188 digital dental X-ray images that were previously diagnosed as periapical periodontitis, dental caries, periapical cysts, and other common dental diseases by dentists in Qilu Hospital of Shandong University were collected and augmented. The images and labels were inputted into four CNN models for training, including visual geometry group (VGG)-16, InceptionV3, residual network (ResNet)-50, and densely connected convolutional networks (DenseNet)-121. The average classification accuracy of the four trained network models on the test set was 95.9%, while the classification accuracy of the trained DenseNet-121 network model reached 99.5%. It is demonstrated that the use of CNNs to interpret digital dental X-ray images is an efficient and accurate way to conduct auxiliary diagnoses of dental diseases.

RESUMO

Low temperature is an important factor limiting plant growth. Most cultivars of Vitis vinifera L. are sensitive to low temperatures and are at risk of freezing injury or even plant death during winter. In this study, we analyzed the transcriptome of branches of dormant cv. Cabernet Sauvignon exposed to several low-temperature conditions to identify differentially expressed genes and determine their function based on Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG)enrichment analyses. Our results indicated that exposure to subzero low temperatures resulted in damage to plant cell membranes and extravasation of intracellular electrolytes, and that this damage increased with decreasing temperature or increasing duration. The number of differential genes increased as the duration of stress increased, but most of the common differentially expressed genes reached their highest expression at 6 h of stress, indicating that 6 h may be a turning point for vines to tolerate extreme low temperatures. Several pathways play key roles in the response of Cabernet Sauvignon to low-temperature injury, namely: (1) the role of calcium/calmodulin-mediated signaling; (2) carbohydrate metabolism, including the hydrolysis of cell wall pectin and cellulose, decomposition of sucrose, synthesis of raffinose, and inhibition of glycolytic processes; (3) the synthesis of unsaturated fatty acids and metabolism of linolenic acid; and (4) the synthesis of secondary metabolites, especially flavonoids. In addition, pathogenesis-related protein may also play a role in plant cold resistance, but the mechanism is not yet clear. This study reveals possible pathways for the freezing response and leads to new insights into the molecular basis of the tolerance to low temperature in grapevine.

RESUMO

The toxic pathogen theory, an important part of the theories of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), began in the Qin and Han dynasties, formed in the Jin, Sui, Tang, and Song dynasties, developed rapidly in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and conti-nued to develop in contemporary times based on the achievements of its predecessors. The continuous exploration, practice, and inheri-tance of many medical practitioners over the generations have facilitated the enrichment of its connotation. The toxic pathogen is violent, fierce, dangerous, prolonged, rapid in transmission, easy to hurt the internal organs, hidden, and latent, with many changes, and it is closely related to the development of tumor diseases. TCM has a history of thousands of years in the prevention and treatment of tumor diseases. It is gradually realized that the etiology of tumor is mainly attributed to the deficiency of healthy Qi and excess of to-xic pathogen, and the struggle between healthy Qi and toxic pathogen runs through the whole course of tumor, with the deficiency of healthy Qi as the prerequisite and the invasion of toxic pathogen as the root of the occurrence. The toxic pathogen has a strong carcinogenic effect and is involved in the whole process of tumor development, which is closely related to the malignant behaviors of tumors, including proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. This study discussed the historical origin and modern interpretation of the toxic pathogen theory in the prevention and treatment of tumors, with aims of sorting out the theoretical system based on the toxic pathogen theory in the treatment of tumor diseases, and illustrating the importance of the toxic pathogen theory in the treatment of tumors in the context of modern research on pharmacological mechanisms and the development and marketing of relevant anti-tumor Chinese medicinal preparations.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the differentiation of regulatory T cells (Tregs) induced by methylprednisolone (MP) pulse therapy in patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). METHODS: We enrolled 30 patients with SLE and analyzed peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) before and after MP pulse therapy. Peripheral Tregs, apoptosis of PBMCs subsets, and TGFß production by monocytes was quantified by flow cytometry. Proliferation and IFN-γ production of CD4+ T cells were measured. Furthermore, TGFß1 production by human monocyte-derived macrophages (HMDM) stimulated with MP-treated CD4+ T cells were quantified by ELISA. RESULTS: Peripheral Tregs was significantly increased after MP pulse therapy (6.76 ± 1.46% vs. 3.82 ± 1.02%, p < 0.01), with an expansion of Nrp1- induced Tregs (4.54 ± 0.46% vs. 1.75 ± 0.38%, p < 0.01). Proliferation and IFN-γ production of CD4+ T cells were significantly decreased after MP pulse therapy. MP pulse therapy induced CD4+ T cell apoptosis (early apoptosis, 26.34 ± 3.54% vs. 14.81 ± 2.89%, p < 0.01) and TGFß expression on monocytes (6.02% vs. 2.45%, p < 0.01). Furthermore, MP induced CD4+ T cell apoptosis in vitro, which stimulated HMDM to produce TGFß. Moreover, elevated TGFß level in supernatant from HMDM stimulated with MP-treated CD4+ T cells promoted Tregs differentiation. CONCLUSIONS: MP pulse therapy induces CD4+ T cell apoptosis, which promotes monocytes to produce TGFß and further facilitates Tregs differentiation. Newly-differentiated Tregs suppress proliferation and IFN-γ production of CD4+ T cells and contribute to immunoregulatory milieu after MP pulse therapy.

RESUMO

Mycotoxin contamination has become a challenge in the field of food safety testing, given the increasing emphasis on food safety in recent years. Mycotoxins are widely distributed, in heavily polluted areas. Food contamination with these toxins is difficult to prevent and control. Mycotoxins, as are small-molecule toxic metabolites produced by several species belonging to the genera Aspergillus, Fusarium, and Penicillium growing in food. They are considered teratogenic, carcinogenic, and mutagenic to humans and animals. Food systems are often simultaneously contaminated with multiple mycotoxins. Due to the additive or synergistic toxicological effects caused by the co-existence of multiple mycotoxins, their individual detection requires reliable, accurate, and high-throughput techniques. Currently available, methods for the detection of multiple mycotoxins are mainly based on chromatography, spectroscopy (colorimetry, fluorescence, and surface-enhanced Raman scattering), and electrochemistry. This review provides a comprehensive overview of advances in the multiple detection methods of mycotoxins during the recent 5 years. The principles and features of these techniques are described. The practical applications and challenges associated with assays for multiple detection methods of mycotoxins are summarized. The potential for future development and application is discussed in an effort, to provide standards of references for further research.

RESUMO

Tumor necrosis factor-α-induced protein-8 like-2 (TIPE2) as a novel negative immune regulator plays an important role in several human diseases. However, its influences in cervical cancer and preeclampsia (PE) remain unclear. This study aims to explore the important role of TIPE2 in cervical cancer and PE via regulating cell invasion. TIPE2 expression in the cervical cancer tissues or the placenta of PE patients was detected. Human cervical cancer cell lines and trophoblasts were transfected with adenovirus expressing human TIPE2 and green fluorescent protein (GFP) (Ad-TIPE2), or the control adenovirus expressing GFP (Ad-GFP). Xenograft models were also constructed on nude mice, aiming to clarify how TIPE2 affects in vivo growth of cervical cancer cells. TIPE2 was down-regulated in the tumor tissues or placenta of patients with cervical cancer or PE. As a result, CaSKi and Hela cells in the Ad-TIPE2 group had decreased migration and invasion, with significant up-regulations of TIPE2 and E-cadherin, but down-regulations of ß-catenin and N-cadherin. Ad-TIPE2 decreased the volume and weight of xenograft tumors in the nude mice, with the down-regulation of Ki67. The quantity of cells (HTR8/SVneo and JEG3 cells) transfected with Ad-TIPE2 had increased, with up-regulations of TIPE2, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9. TIPE2 overexpression could reduce the invasion and migration of cervical cancer cells via inhibiting the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process, and promote trophocyte invasion via upregulating the expression of MMPs, and it may be used as a potential therapeutic target for cervical cancer and PE.

RESUMO

Due to the potential engineering needs, the passive tunable metasurfaces with a high performance equivalent to the active phased array is worthy of research. Here, a passive ultrathin metasurface unit composed of a piezoelectric composite structure (PCS) connected to an external capacitor, which can modulate the phase of the transmitted acoustic waves at a deep subwavelength scale only by controlling the external capacitor but without changing the structure, is proposed. Then, a tunable acoustic metasurface composed of 20 identical PCSs is introduced to realize three acoustic functions, beam steering, beam focusing, and tweezer-like beam generating, just by changing the external capacitors. The phase-control abilities of the PCS unit and three functions of the designed metasurface are proved both numerically and experimentally. This study provides the possibility to design ultrathin tunable acoustic metasurfaces with the ability of precise control and passive materials.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Family caregivers' lived experiences are often perceived as a homogenous entity, preventing effective identification of unique caregiving needs and appropriate support. Our study examined and classified the varying dementia caregiving experiences in an Asian setting, through establishing caregiver archetypes. METHODS: Secondary analysis of semi-structured interviews conducted with 16 dementia family caregivers in a Singapore hospital was performed. Thematic analysis and typological analysis were utilized. RESULTS: Four caregiver archetypes (Reluctant, Ambivalent, Enlightened, and Selfless) were identified: Reluctant caregivers possessed poor understanding of dementia and experienced immeasurable distress; Ambivalent caregivers carried mixed feelings towards caregiving and felt unsupported; Enlightened caregivers preserved care-recipients' dignity and accepted challenges with priority on sustainable care; Selfless caregivers were overly-devoted and enmeshed in the caregiver identity. CONCLUSION: Our findings are useful in providing a framework for: (1) rapid understanding of informal caregivers' varying needs, (2) targeted support in a holistic caregiver-centered manner.

RESUMO

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC), the CPC and the government have highligh-ted the development of traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) and issued a series of policies, such as the Plan for Protection and Deve-lopment of Chinese Medicinal Materials(2015-2020) forwarded by the General Office of the State Council in 2015, the Plan for Healthy Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine(2015-2020) released by the General Office of the State Council in the same year, the Healthy China 2030 Plan published by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council in 2016, the Law of the People's Republic of China on Traditional Chinese Medicine which took effect on July 2017, On the Preservation and Innovative Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine promulgated by CPC Central Committee and the State Council in 2019, and Plan for the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine during the 14th Five-Year Plan Period of China released by the General Office of the State Council in March 2022, to promote the development of the TCM industry, which have brought historical opportunities to the TCM industry. However, TCM industry faces various challenges in the development. In terms of drug development in TCM, the current studies mainly focused on the chemical research and technical requests, which neglected TCM characteristics and cased in conformity between new drug transformation of TCM and clinical practice. Therefore, a more considerable and profound authoritative guideline is needed, and innovative thought and research are necessary for academics and the industry. Through the investigation of the development TCM industry in recent years, this study summarized the policies on and trends of Chinese medicinal materials, new drug development in TCM, catalogue of national basic drugs, and national basic health insurance, and proposed suggestions for further development of TCM industry.
