Sepsis is an inevitable stage of bacterial invasion characterized by an uncontrolled inflammatory response resulting in a syndrome of multiorgan dysfunction. Most conventional antibiotics used to treat sepsis are efficacious, but they have undesirable side effects. The green synthesised Ag NPs were synthesized by 5 g of the earthworm extract dissolved in a volume of 500mL of distilled water and then added to 2,500 mL aqueous solution of 1mM silver nitrate at 40 °C. After 4 h, the mixture was then allowed to dry overnight at 60 °C. Later, Ag NPs were washed and collected. They were characterized by X-ray diffraction, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Sepsis model as induced by feces-intraperitoneal injection method. Eighteen male mice were assigned into three main groups: the control group, the sepsis-model group, and the Ag NPs-treated group. The control group received a single oral dose of distilled water and, after two days, intraperitoneally injected with 30% glycerol in phosphate buffer saline. The Sepsis-model group received a single oral dose of distilled water. Ag NPs - The treated group received a single oral dose of 5.5 mg/kg of Ag NPs. After two days, the sepsis-model group and Ag NPs-treated group were intraperitoneally injected with 200 µL of faecal slurry. Ag NPs treatment in septic mice significantly decreased liver enzyme activities, total protein, and serum albumin. Moreover, Ag NPs significantly enhanced kidney function, as indicated by a significant decrease in the levels of creatinine, urea, and uric acid. In addition, Ag NPs showed a powerful antioxidant effect via the considerable reduction of malondialdehyde and nitric oxide levels and the increase in antioxidant content. The histopathological investigation showed clear improvement in hepatic and kidney architecture. Our findings demonstrate the protective efficacy of biogenic Ag NPs against sepsis-induced liver and kidney damage.

Diarrheal diseases remain the leading cause of high mortality among the infants, particularly in the developing countries; Probiotic intervention for diarrhea has been an ongoing novel approach to diarrheal prevention and treatment. This study aims to characterize immunogenic and probiotic properties of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from human breast milk and neonates' faeces. The LAB isolates from 16 mothers' breast milk and 13 infants' faeces were screened and identified by 16 S rRNA gene partial sequencing. Their antimicrobial activities against 5 strains of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli were tested. Organic acids production was quantified by HPLC, and antibiotic resistance pattern were determined by VITEK®. Autoaggregation, co-aggregation and hydrophobicity properties were assessed by UV spectrophotometry and immunomodulatory effect was determined in mouse model. Ninety-three LAB of five genera were identified. The most abundant species was Lactiplantibacillus plantarum with inhibition zones ranged from 8.0 to 25.0 ± 1 mm. Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus A012 had 76.8 mg/mL lactic acid, (the highest concentration), was susceptible to all antibiotics tested. L. plantarum A011 and L. rhamnosus A012 were highly resistance to gastrointestinal conditions. L. rhamnosus A012 produced hydrophobicity of 25.01% (n-hexadecane), 15.4% (xylene) and its autoaggregation was 32.52%. L. rhamnosus A012 and L. plantarum A011 exert immunomodulatory effects on the cyclophosphamide-treated mice by upregulating anti-inflammatory cytokine and downregulating proinflammatory cytokines. Lactobacillus sp. demonstrated good probiotic and immunomodulatory properties. Further works are ongoing on the practical use of the strains.

Only few studies have investigated the prevalence of feline coronavirus (FCoV) infection in domestic cats in Fujian, China. This is the first study to report the prevalence rate of FCoV infection in domestic cats in Fujian, China, and to analyse the epidemiological characteristics of FCoV infection in the region. A total of 112 cat faecal samples were collected from animal hospitals and catteries in the Fujian Province. RNA was extracted from faecal material for reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The prevalence rate of FCoV infection was determined, and its epidemiological risk factors were analysed. The overall prevalence of FCoV infection in the cats, was 67.9%. We did not observe a significant association between the age, sex, or breed of the cats included in the study and the prevalence rate of the viral infection. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the four strains from Fujian were all type I FCoV. This is the first study to analyse the prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of FCoV infection in domestic cats in Fujian, China, using faecal samples. The results of this study provide preliminary data regarding the prevalence of FCoV infection in the Fujian Province for epidemiological studies on FCoV in China and worldwide. Future studies should perform systematic and comprehensive epidemiological investigations to determine the prevalence of FCoV infection in the region.

Obligately anaerobic, Gram-stain-negative, wavy rods, strains 17YCFAHCo10, 18YCFAH0.3Co2 and 19YCFAH0.3Co2, were isolated from faecal samples of healthy Japanese people. The three isolates showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Waltera intestinalis WCA3-601-WT-6HT (99.2-100â%) and Brotolimicola acetigignens f_CXYT (99.2-99.7â%). The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that the three isolates formed a cluster with W. intestinalis WCA3-601-WT-6HT. Strain 19YCFAH0.3Co2 formed a subcluster with the type strain of W. intestinalis and did not form a cluster with the other two isolates. B. acetigignens f_CXYT also formed a cluster with W. intestinalis WCA3-601-WT-6HT and three isolates. The digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) and average nucleotide identity (ANI) values between strain 19YCFAH0.3Co2 and W. intestinalis WCA3-601-WT-6HT were higher (72â% dDDH and 97â% ANI) than the cut-off values for species delimitation, indicating that strain 19YCFAH0.3Co2 is W. intestinalis. On the other hand, the dDDH and ANI values between strains 17YCFAHCo10 and 18YCFAH0.3Co2 and the type strain of W. intestinalis were lower (<34â% dDDH and <87â% ANI) than the cut-off values for species delimitation, indicating that these two isolates are different species from W. intestinalis. The percentage of conserved proteins and the average amino acid identity values support the assignment of the isolates to the genus Waltera. Strains 17YCFAHCo10 and 18YCFAH0.3Co2 could be distinguished from W. intestinalis by their inability to ferment melibiose and ribose and lack of activity for ß-glucuronidase. In addition, the dDDH and ANI values between two strains (17YCFAHCo10 and 18YCFAH0.3Co2) and B. acetigignens f_CXYT were higher (>78â% dDDH and >97â% ANI), indicating these two strains and B. acetigignens are the same species. As the genus Waltera has priority, B. acetigignens is transferred to the genus Waltera as Waltera acetigignens comb. nov. The type strain of W. acetigignens is f_CXYT (=JCM 34988T=DSM 107528T).

Two Gram-stain-negative, straight rods, non-motile, asporogenous, catalase-negative and obligately anaerobic butyrate-producing strains, HLW78T and CYL33, were isolated from faecal samples of two healthy Taiwanese adults. Phylogenetic analyses of 16S rRNA and DNA mismatch repair protein MutL (mutL) gene sequences revealed that these two novel strains belonged to the genus Faecalibacterium. On the basis of 16S rRNA and mutL gene sequence similarities, the type strains Faecalibacterium butyricigenerans AF52-21T(98.3-98.1â% and 79.0-79.5â% similarity), Faecalibacterium duncaniae A2-165T(97.8-97.9â% and 70.9-80.1â%), Faecalibacterium hattorii APC922/41-1T(97.1-97.3â% and 80.3-80.5â%), Faecalibacterium longum CM04-06T(97.8-98.0% and 78.3â%) and Faecalibacterium prausnitzii ATCC 27768T(97.3-97.4â% and 82.7-82.9â%) were the closest neighbours to the novel strains HLW78T and CYL33. Strains HLW78T and CYL33 had 99.4â% both the 16S rRNA and mutL gene sequence similarities, 97.9â% average nucleotide identity (ANI), 96.3â% average amino acid identity (AAI), and 80.5â% digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values, indicating that these two strains are members of the same species. Phylogenomic tree analysis indicated that strains HLW78T and CYL33 formed an independent robust cluster together with F. prausnitzii ATCC 27768T. The ANI, AAI and dDDH values between strain HLW78T and its closest neighbours were below the species delineation thresholds of 77.6-85.1â%, 71.4-85.2â% and 28.3-30.9â%, respectively. The two novel strains could be differentiated from the type strains of their closest Faecalibacterium species based on their cellular fatty acid compositions, which contained C18â:â1 ω7c and lacked C15â:â0 and C17â:â1 ω6c, respectively. Phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genotypic test results demonstrated that the two novel strains HLW78T and CYL33 represented a single, novel species within the genus Faecalibacterium, for which the name Faecalibacterium taiwanense sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HLW78T (=BCRC 81397T=NBRC 116372T).

A Gram-stain-positive, non-spore-forming, and obligate anaerobic bacteria designated strain CBA3647T was isolated from a horse faecal sample in Jeju, Republic of Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain CBA3647T formed a distinct phyletic lineage from closely related species within the genus Peptostreptococcus. Based on comparative analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences, Peptostreptococcus anaerobius ATCC 27337T is most closely related to strain CBA3647T with a 16S rRNA gene similarity of 98.31â%, while similarity to other type strains is below 98.0â%. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain CBA3647T was 30.0 mol%. The digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain CBA3647T and the six Peptostreptococcus species were equal to or less than 24â%. Cells were non-motile and oval-shaped cocci with catalase-positive and oxidase-negative activities. Growth occurred at 20-40â°C (optimum, 35â°C), pH 6-8 (optimum, pH 7), and in the presence of 0-2â% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 1â%). Strain CBA3647T contained C14â:â0 iso and C16â:â0 as major fatty acids. Phenotypic, chemotaxonomic, and molecular properties of strain CBA3647T suggest that it represents a novel species in the genus Peptostreptococcus, which has been named Peptostreptococcus equinus sp. nov. The type strain is CBA3647T (=KACC 22891T= JCM 35846T).

Strain Ran72T, a novel Gram-stain-negative, obligately aerobic, non-motile, and rod-shaped bacterium, was isolated from the faeces of the rhinoceros species Ceratotherium simum. The novel bacterial strain grew optimally in Reasoner's 2A medium under the following conditions: 0â% (w/v) NaCl, pH 7.5, and 30â°C. Based on phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequencing, strain Ran72T was found to be most closely related to Chryseobacterium faecale F4T (98.4â%), Kaistella soli DKR-2T (98.0â%), and Kaistella haifensis H38T (97.4â%). A comprehensive genome-level comparison between strain Ran72T with C. faecale F4T, K. soli DKR-2T, and K. haifensis H38T revealed average nucleotide identity, digital DNA-DNA hybridization, and average amino acid identity values of ≤74.9, ≤19.3, and ≤78.7â%, respectively. The major fatty acids were anteiso-C15â:â0 (22.3â%), with MK-6 being the predominant respiratory quinone. The major polar lipids of strain Ran72T were phosphatidylethanolamine, four unidentified aminolipids, and two unidentified lipids. Based on our chemotaxonomic, genotypic, and phenotype characterizations, strain Ran72T was identified as representing a novel species in the genus Kaistella, for which the name Kaistella rhinocerotis sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain Ran72T (=KACC 23136T=JCM 36038T). Based on the outcomes of our phylogenomic study, Chryseobacterium faecale should be reclassified under the genus Kaistella as Kaistella faecalis comb. nov.

Two cocci-shaped, facultatively anaerobic, Gram-positive bacteria isolated from the faeces of a pig were designated as strains YH-aer221T and YH-aer222. Analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the isolates were most closely related to Aerococcus suis JCM 18035T with 96.6â% similarity. The multi-locus sequence tree revealed that the isolates formed a sub-cluster adjacent to A. suis JCM 18035T. The average nucleotide identity values for the isolates and their most closely related strains were 71.8 and 71.7â%, respectively; and the digital DNA-DNA hybridization values for the isolates and their most closely related strains were 25.6 and 25.5â%, respectively. The main fatty acids were C18â:â1ω9c, C16â:â0 and C18â:â0. The cell wall contained the meso-diaminopimelic acid-based peptidoglycan. The two isolates shared the same metabolic pathways. Isolates YH-aer221T and YH-aer222 harboured the same CRISPR array with 33 and 46 spacers, respectively. Single-genome vs. metagenome analysis showed that the genomes of the isolates were not found in the available metagenome database. Given their chemotaxonomic, phenotypic and phylogenetic properties, YH-aer221T (= KCTC 25571T=JCM 35699T) and YH-aer222 (=KCTC 25573=JCM 35700) represent a novel taxon. The name Aerococcus kribbianus sp. nov. is proposed.

An obligately anaerobic, non-motile, Gram-stain-negative, and rod-shaped strain KGMB11183T was isolated from the feces of healthy Koreans. The growth of strain KGMB11183T occurred at 30-45 °C (optimum 37 °C), at pH 6-9 (optimum pH 7), and in the presence of 0-0.5% NaCl (optimum 0%). Strain KGMB11183T showed 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities of 95.4% and 94.2% to the closest recognized species, Phocaeicola plebeius M12T, and Phocaeicola faecicola AGMB03916T. Phylogenetic analysis showed that strain KGMB11183T is a member of the genus Phocaeiocla. The major end products of fermentation are acetic acid and isobutyric acid. The major cellular fatty acids (> 10%) of this isolate were C18:1 cis 9, anteiso-C15:0, and summed feature 11 (iso-C17:0 3-OH and/or C18:2 DMA). The assembled draft genome sequences of strain KGMB11183T consisted of 3,215,271 bp with a DNA G + C content of 41.4%. According to genomic analysis, strain KGMB11183T has a number of genes that produce acetic acid. The genome of strain KGMB11183T encoded the starch utilization system (Sus) operon, SusCDEF suggesting that strain uses many complex polysaccharides that cannot be digested by humans. Based on the physiological, chemotaxonomic, phenotypic, and phylogenetic data, strain KGMB11183T is regarded a novel species of the genus Phocaeicola. The type strain is KGMB11183T (= KCTC 25284T = JCM 35696T).

In internal parasitism, the respiration strategy within the host's body is as essential as evading attack from the host's immune system. Tachinid flies are parasitoids of terrestrial arthropods, mostly insects, during their larval stage. To obtain oxygen while living in the host body, they build a cylindrical structure known as the respiratory funnel at the aperture opened by the tachinid larva on the host integument or trachea. These funnels can be divided morphologically into sheath and cone types. Previous research on sheath-type funnels revealed that they are derived from the encapsulating substance produced by the host's immune system. In contrast, the cone-type funnels cover part of the body of the larval tachinid and may be constructed independently from the host immune system. To determine the mechanisms of cone-type funnel formation, histological observations were carried out on Gymnosoma rotundatum (L.) (Diptera: Tachinidae), which possesses this type of funnel. The respiratory funnel of G. rotundatum was found to be derived from the tube-shaped faeces wrapped with the peritrophic membrane and excreted by the fly larva, not from host tissue or haemocytes. Additionally, secretory glands putatively involved in the funnel formation were discovered around the larval anal plate of G. rotundatum. A comparison of funnel types within Tachinidae revealed that Phasiinae and Dexiinae have cone-type funnels, which may be created by the same mechanism as in G. rotundatum. These new findings suggest that funnel formation that does not use the host immune system is relevant to tachinid phylogeny.

AIM: To explore the choreographies of the elimination of faeces of older people to gain insight into the institutionalized practices of body care of older people in hospitals and long-term care settings. DESIGN: A qualitative ethnographic study, drawing on a perspective of socio-material theory. Reported in accordance with the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research. METHODS: A total of, 30 women and 11 men aged 80 years and above needing assistance with body care in a hospital ward, 2 nursing homes and home care and 32 care workers participated. Four individual interviews with older people and three focus group interviews with care workers were conducted, in addition to 135 h of participant observations, from December 2020 to September 2021. Data were analysed using a situational analysis approach. RESULTS: The assistance with the elimination of faeces is a multiplicity of ongoing dynamic practices where different actors interrelate. Dominating actors are time, space, materialities, different ideals and professional knowledge. The choreographies aim at order the elimination of faeces to happen at the right time at the right place, to provide dignified care. CONCLUSION: To assist older people with the elimination of faeces is complex institutionalized practices. The study argues for a greater focus on the ongoing relations between human and non-human actors to provide new understandings of an underexplored phenomenon in nursing. IMPACT: What problem did the study address? The elimination of faeces of older people as part of body care is an underexplored phenomenon in nursing, often subject to stigma and taboo, and delegated to other healthcare workers than registered nurses. Internationally, there are challenges in the delivery of fundamentals of nursing care to older people across healthcare settings. Few studies have explored body care as an institutionalized practice across different settings, taking into consideration the contextual aspects of care as well as the involvement of non-human actors in the care practices. What were the main findings? Multiple human and non-human actors are involved when older people need assistance with the elimination of faeces. Time, space, materialities, different ideals and professional knowledge are important actors. The elimination of faeces is not a homogeneous practice but ongoing, dynamic, and multiple practices. The context of care practices related to the elimination of faeces is not an outer macro level distant from care, but part of the ongoing daily practices of body care. Where and on whom will the research have an impact? The findings can inspire researchers and clinicians to develop a new understanding of fundamental care needs. The study offers a critical perspective on possibilities for providing care, since political ideals and governance are active actors in daily care practices. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: No patient or public contribution. The study was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic; restrictions limited the access to involving patients and care workers in the research process. An advisory board consisting of leaders from the different settings was a part of the design process and in the interpretation of data. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FURTHER RESEARCH: The socio material theoretical perspective has a potential to unfold the complexities in nursing care practices focusing on aspects that are underexplored in nursing research.

The gut microbiota is a key and primary stimulus for the development of a host's immune system. The early establishment of the gut microbiota is affected by several perinatal factors but little is known about their influence on shaping normal immune development and, consequently, on the programming of future health. The analysis of different immune compounds is well-documented in serum samples; however, their presence in faecal samples has not been studied, and this information could be valuable in early life. In this context, the authors of this study aimed to both describe the immunological faecal profile of a cohort of one-month-old infants and describe the impact of different perinatal factors, exploring possible associations between immune compounds and gut microbiota in faecal samples. Clear differences in immune profile were observed between full-term and premature infants. Breastfeeding increases IgG2, IgG4, and IgA; in addition, male babies showed some increased Igs, among other observations. Overall, the findings of this study reinforce the hypothesis that microorganisms and immune compounds interact with each other in the early neonatal gut and that understanding these interactions in depth will help us comprehend the influence of the gut microbiota on short- and long-term infant health outcomes.

Child stunting due to linear growth faltering remains a pervasive issue in low- and middle-income countries. Two schools of thought have existed pertaining to the role of domestic livestock ownership (DLO) in child linear growth. On one hand, it is argued that DLO leads to greater income and financial security, resulting in better child-raising conditions, including greater animal-source food (ASF) consumption, having protective effects towards child stunting. On the other hand, researchers argue that DLO contributes to faecal contamination and transmission of zoonotic enteric infections from animals to children, thus having destructive effects on child growth. Reviews of this association have revealed ambiguous findings. In this perspective, we argue that measuring the association between exposures to domesticated animals and child stunting is difficult and the ambiguous associations revealed are a result of confounding and differences in the management of DLO. We also argue that the increasingly prominent area of research of environmental enteric dysfunction, a sub-clinical condition of the small intestine thought to be due to frequent faecal pathogen exposure and associated with stunting, will be a useful tool to measure the potential destructive effects of DLO on child growth. We present our argument and identify challenges and considerations and directions for future research.

DNA obtained from invertebrates (iDNA) can be metabarcoded in order to survey vertebrate communities. However, little attention has been paid to the interaction between the invertebrate and vertebrate species. Here, we tested for specialization by sampling the dung and carrion fly community of a swamp forest remnant along a disturbance gradient (10 sites: 80-310 m from a road). Approximately, 60% of the baited 407 flies yielded 294 vertebrate identifications based on two COI fragments and 16S. A bipartite network analysis found no statistically significant specialization in the interactions between fly and vertebrate species, but uncommon fly species can carry the signal for vertebrate species that are otherwise difficult to detect with iDNA. A spatial analysis revealed that most of the 20 vertebrate species reported in this study could be detected within 150 m of the road (18 spp.) and that the fly community sourced for iDNA was unexpectedly rich (24 species, 3 families). They carried DNA for rare and common species inhabiting different layers of the forest (ground-dwelling: wild boar, Sunda pangolin, skinks, rats; arboreal: long-tailed macaque, Raffles' banded langur; flying: pin-striped tit-babbler, olive-winged bulbul). All our results were obtained with a new, greatly simplified iDNA protocol that eliminates DNA extraction by obtaining template directly through dissolving fly faeces and regurgitates with water. Lastly, we show that MinION- and Illumina-based metabarcoding yield similar results. We conclude by urging more studies that use different baits and involve experiments that are capable of revealing the dispersal capabilities of the flies carrying the iDNA.

A novel actinobacterial strain, designated AGMB00827T, was isolated from swine faeces. Strain AGMB00827T was obligately anaerobic, Gram-stain-positive, non-motile, non-spore-forming and rod-shaped bacterium. Comparative analyses based on the 16S rRNA gene and whole genome sequence revealed that strain AGMB00827T was affiliated to the genus Collinsella, and was most closely related to Collinsella vaginalis Marseille-P2666T (= KCTC 25056T). Biochemical analysis showed strain AGMB00827T was negative for catalase and oxidase. Interestingly, strain AGMB00827T possessed urease activity, which was determined by traditional methods (API test and Christensen's urea medium), unlike related strains. Furthermore, the major cellular fatty acids (> 10%) of the isolate were C18:1 ω9c, C16:0, C16:0 DMA and C18:2 ω9,12c DMA. Based on the whole genome sequence analysis, the DNA G + C content of strain AGMB00827T was 52.3%, and the genome size and numbers of rRNA and tRNA genes were 1,945,251 bp, 3 and 46, respectively. The average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain AGMB00827T and C. vaginalis KCTC 25056 T were 71.0 and 23.2%, respectively. Additionally, the genome analysis revealed that strain AGMB00827T possesses urease gene cluster including ureABC and ureDEFG while the related strains do not have those genes, which is consistent with the urease activity. On the basis of polyphasic taxonomic approach, strain AGMB00827T represents a novel species within the genus Collinsella, for which the name Collinsella urealyticum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is AGMB00827T (= KCTC 25287T = GDMCC 1.2724T).

Obligately anaerobic, Gram-stain-positive, small-chain coccobacilli, strains 12EGH17T and 18CBH55, were isolated from faecal samples of healthy Japanese humans. Strain 12EGH17T showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Sellimonas intestinalis BR72T (95.5â%), Coprococcus comes ATCC 27758T (94.4â%) and Clostridium nexile DSM 1787T (93.7â%). The percentage of conserved proteins values between the genome of strain 12EGH17T and that of the members of the genus Sellimonas were >54â%, suggesting that strain 12EGH17T belongs to the genus Sellimonas. The digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) and average nucleotide identity (ANI) values between strains 12EGH17T and 18CBH55 were higher than the cut-off values of species demarcation (90â% dDDH and 99â% ANI), indicating these two strains are the same species. However, the dDDH and ANI values of these strains were lower than the cut-off values of species demarcation against other strains (<30â% dDDH and <79â% ANI). These results indicate that the isolates should be considered to represent a new species of the genus Sellimonas. The isolates were differentiated from the type species, S. intestinalis, by the ability of aesculin hydrolysis. Based on the collected data, strains 12EGH17T and 18CBH55 represent a novel species in the genus Sellimonas, for which the name Sellimonas catena sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of S. catena is 12EGH17T (=JCM 35622T=DSM 114916T).

A lactic acid bacterium isolated from pig faeces was characterized using a polyphasic approach. The strain was Gram-stain-positive, rod-shaped, and facultative anaerobic. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that the isolate belonged to the genus Lacticaseibacillus. The multi-locus sequence tree revealed that the strain formed a sub-cluster adjacent to Lacticaseibacillus kribbianus. The main fatty acids were C16â:â0 and C18â:â1ω9c. The average nucleotide identity value, average amino acid identity, and genome-to-genome distance for YH-lacS6T and its most closely related strain, L. kribbianus, were 85.4, 85.2 and 29.2â%, respectively. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 61.6 mol%. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, aminophospholipids and phospholipids. The cell-wall peptidoglycan did not contain meso-diaminopimelic acid. Thus, YH-lacS6T (=KCTC 21186T=JCM 34954T) represents a novel species. The name Lacticaseibacillus parakribbianus sp. nov. is proposed.

As part of a larger study on Epsilonproteobacteria carried by wild birds in the city of Valdivia (southern Chile), two curved rod-shaped Gram-stain-negative strains (A82T and WB-40) were recovered from faecal samples and subjected to a taxonomic study. Results of a genus-specific PCR showed that these isolates belonged to the genus Helicobacter. Further identification by 16S rRNA and hsp60 (60 kDa heat-shock protein) gene sequence analysis revealed that they formed a separate phylogenetic clade, different from other known Helicobacter species with 'Helicobacter burdigaliensis' CNRCH 2005/566HT and Helicobacter valdiviensis WBE14T being the most closely related species. This was confirmed by core-genome phylogeny as well as digital DNA-DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity analyses between the genomes of strains A82T and WB-40 and all other Helicobacter species. The draft genome sequences of A82T and WB-40, obtained by Illumina NextSeq 2000 sequencing, consisted of 1.6 Mb with a G+C content of 31.9-32.0 mol%. The results obtained from the phylogenetic and genomic characterization, together with their different morphological and biochemical features, revealed that these two strains represent a novel species, for which we propose the name Helicobacter ibis sp. nov. with A82T (=LMG 32718T=CCCT 22.04T) as the type strain.

A novel bacterial strain, CBA7301T, was isolated from human faeces and was characterised using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that CBA7301T represented a member of the genus Bacteroides, in the family Bacteroidaceae. The similarity between the 16S rRNA gene sequence of CBA7301T and that of its most closely related species, Bacteroides faecichinchillae JCM 17102T, was 96.2â%, and the average nucleotide identity between these two strains was 77.9â%. The genome size was 6â782â182 bp, and the DNA G+C content was 42.5 mol%. Cells of CBA7301T were Gram-stain-negative, strictly anaerobic and rod-shaped. The optimal growth of this organism occurred at 30-35 °C, pH 7.0 and 0.5â% (w/v) NaCl. The respiratory quinone was menaquinone 10. The predominant polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phospholipids and aminophospholipids. The major cellular fatty acid was anteiso-C15â:â0. According to the results of the polyphasic taxonomic analysis, CBA7301T represents a novel species of the genus Bacteroides, which we named Bacteroides faecium sp. nov. The type strain is CBA7301T (=KCCM 43355T=ATCC TSD-227T).

Strain CBA3108T is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, obligately anaerobic bacterium isolated from horse faecal samples obtained in Jeju Island, Republic of Korea. The cells of CBA3108T are non-motile short rods that have been assessed as catalase-positive and oxidase-negative. Growth of the strain occurs under the following conditions: 25-45â°C (optimum, 35â°C); pH 6-9 (optimum, pH 6); and in the presence of 0-6â% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 2%). Major fatty acids in the strain include C15â:â0 iso and C15â:â0 iso DMA, while major polar lipids include phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylcholine. Based on phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequences, strain CBA3108T forms a phyletic lineage distinct from other closely related species within the genus Cutibacterium. It was found to be most closely related to Cutibacterium avidum ATCC 25577T (98.27â% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity) and other strains within the genus (≤98.0â%). The genomic DNA G+C content of strain CBA3108T was 63.2 mol%. The in silico DNA-DNA hybridization values of strain CBA3108T with C. avidum ATCC 25577T, C. porci WCA-380-WT-3AT and C. acnes subsp. acnes DSM 1897T were 33.6, 21.7 and 22.7â%, respectively. Its phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and molecular properties support the hypothesis that strain CBA3108T represents a novel species in the genus Cutibacterium, for which we propose the name Cutibacterium equinum sp. nov. The type strain is CBA3108T (=KACC 22889T=JCM 35966T).
