RESUMO

Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) are distinctive clinical manifestations of schizophrenia. While low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has demonstrated potential in mitigating AVH, the precise mechanisms by which it operates remain obscure. This study aimed to investigate alternations in structural connectivity and functional connectivity (SC-FC) coupling among schizophrenia patients with AVH prior to and following treatment with 1 Hz rTMS that specifically targets the left temporoparietal junction. Initially, patients exhibited significantly reduced macroscopic whole brain level SC-FC coupling compared to healthy controls. Notably, SC-FC coupling increased significantly across multiple networks, including the somatomotor, dorsal attention, ventral attention, frontoparietal control, and default mode networks, following rTMS treatment. Significant alternations in SC-FC coupling were noted in critical nodes comprising the somatomotor network and the default mode network, such as the precentral gyrus and the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, respectively. The alternations in SC-FC coupling exhibited a correlation with the amelioration of clinical symptom. The results of our study illuminate the intricate relationship between white matter structures and neuronal activity in patients who are receiving low-frequency rTMS. This advances our understanding of the foundational mechanisms underlying rTMS treatment for AVH.

BACKGROUND: Inducing hallucinations under controlled experimental conditions in non-hallucinating individuals represents a novel research avenue oriented toward understanding complex hallucinatory phenomena, avoiding confounds observed in patients. Auditory-verbal hallucinations (AVH) are one of the most common and distressing psychotic symptoms, whose etiology remains largely unknown. Two prominent accounts portray AVH either as a deficit in auditory-verbal self-monitoring, or as a result of overly strong perceptual priors. METHODS: In order to test both theoretical models and evaluate their potential integration, we developed a robotic procedure able to induce self-monitoring perturbations (consisting of sensorimotor conflicts between poking movements and corresponding tactile feedback) and a perceptual prior associated with otherness sensations (i.e. feeling the presence of a non-existing another person). RESULTS: Here, in two independent studies, we show that this robotic procedure led to AVH-like phenomena in healthy individuals, quantified as an increase in false alarm rate in a voice detection task. Robotically-induced AVH-like sensations were further associated with delusional ideation and to both AVH accounts. Specifically, a condition with stronger sensorimotor conflicts induced more AVH-like sensations (self-monitoring), while, in the otherness-related experimental condition, there were more AVH-like sensations when participants were detecting other-voice stimuli, compared to detecting self-voice stimuli (strong-priors). CONCLUSIONS: By demonstrating an experimental procedure able to induce AVH-like sensations in non-hallucinating individuals, we shed new light on AVH phenomenology, thereby integrating self-monitoring and strong-priors accounts.

BACKGROUND: Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH), or voice-hearing, can be a prominent symptom during fluctuating mood states in bipolar disorder (BD). AIMS: The current study aimed to: (i) compare AVH-related distress in BD relative to schizophrenia (SCZ), (ii) examine correlations between phenomenology and voice beliefs across each group, and (iii) explore how voice beliefs may uniquely contribute to distress in BD and SCZ. METHOD: Participants were recruited from two international sites in Australia (BD=31; SCZ=50) and the UK (BD=17). Basic demographic-clinical information was collected, and mood symptoms were assessed. To document AVH characteristics, a 4-factor model of the Psychotic Symptoms Rating Scale and the Beliefs about Voices Questionnaire-Revised were used. Statistical analyses consisted of group-wise comparisons, Pearson's correlations and multiple hierarchical regressions. RESULTS: It was found that AVH-related distress was not significantly higher in BD than SCZ, but those with BD made significantly more internal attributions for their voices. In the BD group, AVH-related distress was significantly positively correlated with malevolence, omnipotence and resistance, However, only resistance, alongside mania and depressive symptoms, significantly contributed to AVH-related distress in BD. DISCUSSION: Our findings have several clinical implications, including identification of voice resistance as a potential therapeutic target to prioritise in BD. Factoring in the influence of mood symptoms on AVH-related distress as well as adopting more acceptance-oriented therapies may also be of benefit.

INTRODUCTION: Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) are transdiagnostic phenomena that can occur in several mental disorders, including borderline personality disorder (BPD). Despite the transdiagnostic relevance of these symptoms, very little is known about neural signatures of AVH in BPD. METHODS: We used structural magnetic resonance imaging to investigate multiple markers of brain morphology in BPD patients presenting with a lifetime history of AVH (AVH, n = 6) versus BPD patients without AVH (nAVH, n = 10) and healthy controls (HC, n = 12). The Computational Anatomy Toolbox (CAT12) was used for surface-based morphometric analyses that considered cortical thickness (CTh), gyrification (CG), and complexity of cortical folding (CCF). Factorial models were used to explore differences between AVH patients and HC, as well as between the patient groups. RESULTS: Compared to HC, AVH patients showed distinct abnormalities in key regions of the language network, i.e., aberrant CTh and CG in right superior temporal gyrus and abnormal CCF in left inferior frontal gyrus. Further abnormalities were found in right prefrontal cortex (CTh) and left orbitofrontal cortex (CCF). Compared to nAVH patients, individuals with AVH showed abnormal CTh in right prefrontal cortex, along with CCF differences in right transverse temporal, superior parietal, and parahippocampal gyri. CG differences between the patient groups were found in left orbitofrontal cortex. CONCLUSION: The data suggest a transdiagnostic neural signature of voice-hearing that converges on key regions involved in speech generation and perception, memory and executive control. It is possible that cortical features of distinct evolutionary and genetic origin, i.e., CTh and CG/CCF, differently contribute to AVH vulnerability in BPD.

Olfactory discrimination dysfunction has been observed in patients with schizophrenia (SCZ), but its relationship with cognitive function has not been clarified. The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in olfactory identification function in SCZ patients with and without auditory verbal hallucinations (AVHs) and its relationship with cognitive function. Olfactory identification function was measured in 80 SCZ patients with AVHs, 57 SCZ patients without AVHs, and 87 healthy controls (HC). Clinical symptom scores and neuropsychological measures were also administered to all corresponding subjects. Compared to HC, SCZ patients showed significant deficits in olfactory identification and cognitive function, but there were no differences in olfactory identification dysfunction and cognitive dysfunction between the two subgroups. In the non-AVHs subgroup only, poorer Olfactory Stick Identification Test for Japanese (OSIT-J) scores were significantly and positively correlated with total and delayed recall (Bonferroni correction, p < 0.002). Stepwise regression analysis revealed that factors affecting olfactory identification impairment differed in the two SCZ patient subgroups. In conclusion, this study highlights the commonality of olfactory identification dysfunction in SCZ patients and the importance of olfactory assessment of different subtypes of SCZ patients.

Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) are a prominent symptom of schizophrenia. Low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has been evidenced to improve the treatment of AVH in schizophrenia. Although abnormalities in resting-state cerebral blood flow (CBF) have been reported in schizophrenia, the perfusion alterations specific to schizophrenia patients with AVH during rTMS require further investigation. In this study, we used arterial spin labeling (ASL) to investigate changes in brain perfusion in schizophrenia patients with AVH, and their associations with clinical improvement following low-frequency rTMS treatment applied to the left temporoparietal junction area. We observed improvements in clinical symptoms (e.g., positive symptoms and AVH) and certain neurocognitive functions (e.g., verbal learning and visual learning) following treatment. Furthermore, at baseline, the patients showed reductions in CBF in regions associated with language, sensory, and cognition compared to controls, primarily located in the prefrontal cortices (e.g., left inferior frontal gyrus and left middle frontal gyrus), occipital lobe (e.g., left calcarine cortex), and cingulate cortex (e.g., bilateral middle cingulate cortex), compared to controls. Conversely, we observed increased CBF in the left inferior temporal gyrus and bilateral putamen in patients relative to controls, regions known to be involved in AVH. However, the hypoperfusion or hyperperfusion patterns did not persist and instead were normalized, and were related to clinical response (e.g., AVH) in patients during low-frequency rTMS treatment. Importantly, the changes in brain perfusion were related to clinical response (e.g., AVH) in patients. Our findings suggest that low-frequency rTMS can regulate brain perfusion involving critical circuits by its remote effect in schizophrenia, and may play an important mechanistic role in the treatment of AVH.

BACKGROUND: Even though there is an increasing amount of evidence from behavioral and neuroimaging studies to suggest that pathological inner speech plays a role in the emergence of auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH), studies investigating the mechanisms underlying this relationship are rather scarce. Examining moderators might inform the development of new treatment options for AVH. We sought to extend the existing knowledge by testing the moderating role of cognitive impairment in the association between inner speech and hallucinations in a sample of Lebanese patients with schizophrenia. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted from May till August 2022, enrolling 189 chronic patients. RESULTS: Moderation analysis revealed that, after controlling for delusions, the interaction of experiencing voices of other people in inner speech by cognitive performance was significantly associated with AVH. In people having low (Beta = 0.69; t = 5.048; p < .001) and moderate (Beta = 0.45; t = 4.096; p < .001) cognitive performance, the presence of voices of other people in inner speech was significantly associated with more hallucinations. This association was not significant in patients with high cognitive function (Beta = 0.21; t = 1.417; p = .158). CONCLUSION: This preliminarily study suggests that interventions aiming at improving cognitive performance may also have a beneficial effect in reducing hallucinations in schizophrenia.

OBJECTIVES: Negative content in hearing voices (i.e., auditory verbal hallucinations) has been associated with adverse clinical outcomes including voice-related distress. Voice appraisals and responding mindfully to voices are theorized to reduce voice-related distress. This study aimed in examine mediators of the negative content voice-related distress relationship in clinical (those who recently received input from mental health services) and non-clinical voice-hearers. METHODS: One hundred and twenty-one adults (71.9% female; 35.5% mixed or non-white ethnic background) who hear voices were recruited online and completed self-report measures of negative content of voices, voice-related distress, mindfulness of voices, interpretation of loss of control, thought suppression and intrusion. RESULTS: Clinical voice-hearers had significantly higher levels of negative content, voice-related distress and interpretation of loss of control than non-clinical voice-hearers. A mindful approach to voices and interpretation of loss of control mediated the relationship between negative content and voice-related distress across the whole sample. Thought suppression and intrusion did not mediate the relationship. CONCLUSIONS: The results support the use of mindfulness-based psychological intervention to reduce voice-related distress. Further development of valid and reliable measures specifically relating to constructs of voice content, voice-related distress and voice suppression will support further research in this area.

BACKGROUND: Personal recovery literature has been influential in the conceptualization of emotional distress and service provision. While personal recovery in psychosis has been well-studied, voice hearing literature has not been reviewed to elucidate recovery processes. METHOD: Five databases were systematically searched to identify relevant qualitative recovery literature. Twelve eligible studies were included in this review, and an appraisal tool was applied to assess quality. Thematic synthesis was used to examine the results. RESULTS: Three superordinate themes were found relating to 'Recovery Phases', 'Recovery Facilitators' and 'Barriers to Recovery'. Papers included descriptions of finding voices distressing initially yet moving towards integrating and accepting voices. Searching for meaning versus seeking distance from voices were pivotal processes to recovery pathways. Enabling and disrupting recovery experiences are discussed within a proposed model. CONCLUSIONS: Recovery in voice hearing is an individual and potentially ongoing process. Future research should seek to examine recovery factors in voice hearing longitudinally and add further evidence to the supportive role services can play in recovery and voice hearing.

It is unknown to what extent mental imagery and auditory verbal hallucinations (AVHs) are related. Trials evaluating this issue used both emotional and non-emotional mental imagery tools, thereby complicating outcomes comparisons. Therefore, the present study aimed to systematically review the literature on mental imagery in individuals with AVHs to (1) inventory imagery assessment tools used in this population, (2) to collect information on the relation between emotional and non-emotional mental imagery in all sensory domains and AVHs and (3) to integrate the outcomes of this systematic review in a model of different mental imagery domains and related assessment tools. We conducted a systematic literature search in the PubMed Database. After full-text screening, 17 papers were included. Findings showed that a variety of assessment methods have been used to assess various aspects of mental imagery in people with AVHs, suggesting that there is a lack of agreed theoretical conceptualization of mental imagery and AVHs. In addition, the studies confirmed as was expected that non-emotional mental imagery seemed unrelated to AVHs whereas emotional mental imagery was related to AVHs. Lastly, we proposed a model of mental imagery domains and corresponding assessment methods distinguishing between emotional and non-emotional mental imagery.

Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH), also called voices, are often distressing to individuals experiencing them. Valid and reliable instruments are necessary to document the hearing voices experience across cultures. The Hamilton Program for Schizophrenia Voices Questionnaire (HPSVQ) is becoming a widely used self-administered instrument for assessing characteristics, content and subjective effect of AVH. This study investigates the psychometric characteristics of the HPSVQ French version (HPSVQ FV) in a clinical sample of voice-hearers. The results showed that the HPSVQ yields a global score (HPSVQ-Global) as well as a distress (HPSVQ-Distress) and a severity (HPSVQ-Severity) sub-score having good, acceptable and questionable internal consistency respectively. Significant correlations were found between hallucination severity (BPRS 4.0), distress (PSYRATS-AH), voices acceptance (VAAS-9), anxiety and depression (HADS). However, no significant associations were observed between Suspicion and Unusual Thoughts (BPRS 4.0). At a one-week interval, the temporal stability of the three indices was excellent. Moreover, after a brief cognitive intervention, a significant reduction was observed in all indices. Taken together, the HPSVQ FV demonstrated good construct validity, reliability and sensitivity to change. These findings support the use of the HPSVQ in francophone clinical and research settings. However, the bi-factorial solution of the HPSVQ FV should be further examined in larger samples.

In the absence of sensory stimulation, the brain transits between distinct functional networks. Network dynamics such as transition patterns and the time the brain stays in each network link to cognition and behavior and are subject to much investigation. Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH), the temporally fluctuating unprovoked experience of hearing voices, are associated with aberrant resting state network activity. However, we lack a clear understanding of how different networks contribute to aberrant activity over time. An accurate characterization of latent network dynamics and their relation to neurocognitive changes necessitates methods that capture the sub-second temporal fluctuations of the networks' functional connectivity signatures. Here, we critically evaluate the assumptions and sensitivity of several approaches commonly used to assess temporal dynamics of brain connectivity states in M/EEG and fMRI research, highlighting methodological constraints and their clinical relevance to AVH. Identifying altered brain connectivity states linked to AVH can facilitate the detection of predictive disease markers and ultimately be valuable for generating individual risk profiles, differential diagnosis, targeted intervention, and treatment strategies.

Numerous studies indicate altered static local and long-range functional connectivity of multiple brain regions in schizophrenia patients with auditory verbal hallucinations (AVHs). However, the temporal dynamics of interhemispheric and intrahemispheric functional connectivity patterns remain unknown in schizophrenia patients with AVHs. We analyzed resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data for drug-naïve first-episode schizophrenia patients, 50 with AVHs and 50 without AVH (NAVH), and 50 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Whole-brain functional connectivity was decomposed into ipsilateral and contralateral parts, and sliding-window analysis was used to calculate voxel-wise interhemispheric and intrahemispheric dynamic functional connectivity density (dFCD). Finally, the correlation analysis was performed between abnormal dFCD variance and clinical measures in the AVH and NAVH groups. Compared with the NAVH group and healthy controls, the AVH group showed weaker interhemispheric dFCD variability in the left middle temporal gyrus (p < .01; p < .001), as well as stronger interhemispheric dFCD variability in the right thalamus (p < .001; p < .001) and right inferior temporal gyrus (p < .01; p < .001) and stronger intrahemispheric dFCD variability in the left inferior frontal gyrus (p < .001; p < .01). Moreover, abnormal contralateral dFCD variability of the left middle temporal gyrus correlated with the severity of AVHs in the AVH group (r = -.319, p = .024). The findings demonstrate that abnormal temporal variability of interhemispheric and intrahemispheric dFCD in schizophrenia patients with AVHs mainly focus on the temporal and frontal cortices and thalamus that are pivotal components of auditory and language pathways.

BACKGROUND: Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) commonly occur in the context of borderline personality disorder (BPD) yet remain poorly understood. AVH are often perceived by patients with BPD as originating from inside the head and hence viewed clinically as "pseudohallucinations," but they nevertheless have a detrimental impact on well-being. METHODS: The current study characterized perceptual, subjective, and neural expressions of AVH by using an auditory detection task, experience sampling and questionnaires, and functional neuroimaging, respectively. RESULTS: Perceptually, reported AVH correlated with a bias for reporting the presence of a voice in white noise. Subjectively, questionnaire measures indicated that AVH were significantly distressing and persecutory. In addition, AVH intensity, but not perceived origin (i.e., inside vs outside the head), was associated with greater concurrent anxiety. Neurally, fMRI of BPD participants demonstrated that, relative to imagining or listening to voices, periods of reported AVH induced greater blood oxygenation level-dependent activity in anterior cingulate and bilateral temporal cortices (regional substrates for language processing). AVH symptom severity was associated with weaker functional connectivity between anterior cingulate and bilateral insular cortices. CONCLUSION: In summary, our results indicate that AVH in participants with BPD are (1) underpinned by aberrant perceptual-cognitive mechanisms for signal detection, (2) experienced subjectively as persecutory and distressing, and (3) associated with distinct patterns of neural activity that inform proximal mechanistic understanding. Our findings are like analogous observations in patients with schizophrenia and validate the clinical significance of the AVH experience in BPD, often dismissed as "pseudohallucinations." These highlight a need to reconsider this experience as a treatment priority.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive models propose that behavioural responses to voices maintain distress by preventing disconfirmation of negative beliefs about voices. We used Experience Sampling Methodology (ESM) to examine the hypothesized maintenance role of behavioural responses during daily life. METHOD: Thirty-one outpatients with frequent voices completed a smartphone-based ESM questionnaire 10 times a day over 9 days, assessing voice-related distress; resistance and compliance responses to voices; voice characteristics (intensity and negative content); appraisals of voice dominance, uncontrollability and intrusiveness. RESULTS: In line with predictions, behavioural responses were associated with voice appraisals (dominance and uncontrollability), but not voice characteristics. Greater resistance and compliance were reported in moments of increased voice distress, but these associations did not persist after controlling for concurrent voice appraisals and characteristics. Voice distress was predicted by appraisals, and, unexpectedly, also by voice characteristics. As predicted, compliance and resistance were related to increases in distress at subsequent timepoints, whilst antecedent voice appraisals and characteristics had no such effect. Compliance, but not resistance, additionally predicted subsequent increases in voice uncontrollability. In both cases, the reverse models showed no association, indicating directional effects of responses on subsequent distress, and of compliance on uncontrollability appraisals. CONCLUSIONS: These results provide support for the cognitive model by suggesting that momentary behavioural and emotional responses to voices are associated with concurrent negative voice appraisals. Findings suggest that behavioural responses may be driven by voice appraisals, rather than directly by distress, and may in turn maintain voice appraisals and associated distress during the course of daily life.

INTRODUCTION: Recent theoretical models and preliminary data suggest that shame is a central emotion in the context of auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH or voice-hearing). Nevertheless, all previous studies were correlational. Thus, the present study sought to explore whether simulated AVH experiences can trigger shame using an experimental design. METHODS: 346 participants from the general population were randomised to one of 6 conditions. They had to read a vignette describing a character who was either in a situation alone or with a close friend. While reading the vignettes, participants also heard either negative or neutral simulated voices or non-voice neutral sounds. Subsequently, participants completed different measures, including shame. RESULTS: Our results showed that both the negative and neutral simulated voice-hearing triggered higher levels of shame, but also other negative emotions when compared to ambient sound, regardless of the social context. Participants in the simulated voice-hearing conditions reported higher levels of maladaptive coping strategies and negative beliefs about voices than in the ambient sound condition. CONCLUSIONS: The simulation of neutral and negative voices trigger similar levels of subjective shame, indicating the effect is not specific to negative voices but rather associated with the experience per se. Nevertheless, it can also trigger other negative emotions.

Introduction: A strong link between voice-hearing experience and childhood trauma has been established. The aim of this study was to identify whether there were unique clusters of childhood trauma subtypes in a sample across the clinical spectrum of auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) and to examine clinical and phenomenological features across these clusters.Methods: Combining two independent international datasets (the Netherlands and Australia), childhood trauma subtypes were examined using hierarchical cluster analysis. Clinical and phenomenological characteristics were compared across emerging clusters using MANOVA and chi-squared analyses.Results: The total sample (n = 413) included 166 clinical individuals with a psychotic disorder and AVH, 122 non-clinical individuals with AVH and 125 non-clinical individuals without AVH. Three clusters emerged: (1) low trauma (n = 299); (2) emotion-focused trauma (n = 71); (3) multi-trauma (n = 43). The three clusters differed significantly on their AVH ratings of amount of negative content, with trend-level effects for loudness, degree of negative content and degree of experienced distress. Furthermore, perceptions of voices being malevolent, benevolent and resistance towards voices differed significantly.Conclusion: The data revealed different types of childhood trauma had different relationships between clinical and phenomenological features of voice-hearing experiences. Thus, implicating different mechanistic pathways and a need for tailored treatment approaches.

Introduction: Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) are a cardinal symptom of schizophrenia but are also reported in the general population without need for psychiatric care. Previous evidence suggests that AVH may reflect an imbalance of prior expectation and sensory information, and that altered salience processing is characteristic of both psychotic and non-clinical voice hearers. However, it remains to be shown how such an imbalance affects the categorisation of vocal emotions in perceptual ambiguity.Methods: Neutral and emotional nonverbal vocalisations were morphed along two continua differing in valence (anger; pleasure), each including 11 morphing steps at intervals of 10%. College students (N = 234) differing in AVH proneness (measured with the Launay-Slade Hallucination Scale) evaluated the emotional quality of the vocalisations.Results: Increased AVH proneness was associated with more frequent categorisation of ambiguous vocalisations as 'neutral', irrespective of valence. Similarly, the perceptual boundary for emotional classification was shifted by AVH proneness: participants needed more emotional information to categorise a voice as emotional.Conclusions: These findings suggest that emotional salience in vocalisations is dampened as a function of increased AVH proneness. This could be related to changes in the acoustic representations of emotions or reflect top-down expectations of less salient information in the social environment.

Objectives This study focuses on pre-disposing factors associated with sensory experiences of the deceased (SED), also called bereavement hallucinations. Even though SED are common among older widowed adults, our knowledge of these experiences is still limited.Method Survey responses were obtained from 310 older widowed participants (M = 70.05 ± 8.39), complemented with data from Danish national registers.Results Hierarchical logistic regression analysis revealed four significant pre-disposing factors: prior experiences of SED in the context of previous significant bereavements (OR = 4.72), a history of interpersonal trauma (OR = 5.8), high pre-death relationship closeness (OR = 2.76) and stronger religious/spiritual worldview (OR = 1.12). No association to registered mental health diagnosis was identified.Conclusion: SED may be considered an interpersonal experience, which may be more likely to occur if the pre-death relationship is described as very close and if the bereaved has previously experienced interpersonal trauma. We argue that SED should not necessarily be considered an indication of neurodegenerative or psychiatric diseases.

BACKGROUND: The presence of auditory verbal hallucinations (AVHs) does not currently feature in the main diagnostic criteria for borderline personality disorder (BPD). However, there is accumulating evidence that a high proportion of BPD patients report longstanding and frequent AVHs which constitute a significant risk factor for suicide plans and attempts, and hospitalization. AIM: This study addressed questions about the validity and phenomenology of AVHs in the context of BPD. The longer-term aim is to facilitate the development and translation of treatment approaches to address the unmet need of this population. METHOD: This was a cross-sectional study, combining phenomenological and psychological assessments administered in person and online. We explored the experiences of 48 patients with a diagnosis of BPD who were hearing AVHs. RESULTS: Participants gave 'consistent' reports on the measure of AVH phenomenology, suggesting that these experiences were legitimate. Similar to AVHs in a psychosis context, AVHs were experienced as distressing and appraised as persecutory. AVHs were found to be weakly associated with BPD symptoms. AVHs were also rated highly as a treatment priority by the majority of participants. CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that AVH is a legitimate and distressing symptom of BPD and a treatment priority for some patients. The relative independence of AVHs from other BPD symptoms and emotional states suggests that psychological treatment may need to be targeted specifically at the symptom of AVHs. This treatment could be adapted from cognitive behaviour therapy, the psychological intervention that is recommended for the treatment of AVHs in the context of psychosis.
