RESUMO

Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) are shown to be effective as light-harvesting sensitizers of metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) photoelectrodes for photoelectrochemical (PEC) hydrogen (H2) generation. The CdSe/CdS core/shell architecture is widely studied due to their tunable absorption range and band alignment via engineering the size of each composition, leading to efficient carrier separation/transfer with proper core/shell band types. However, until now the effect of core size on the PEC performance along with tailoring the core/shell band alignment is not well understood. Here, by regulating four types of CdSe/CdS core/shell QDs with different core sizes (diameter of 2.8, 3.1, 3.5, and 4.8 nm) while the thickness of CdS shell remains the same (thickness of 2.0 ± 0.1 nm), the Type II, Quasi-Type II, and Type I core/shell architecture are successfully formed. Among these, the optimized CdSe/CdS/TiO2 photoelectrode with core size of 3.5 nm can achieve the saturated photocurrent density (Jph) of 17.4 mA cm-2 under standard one sun irradiation. When such cores are further optimized by capping alloyed shells, the Jph can reach values of 22 mA cm2 which is among the best-performed electrodes based on colloidal QDs.

RESUMO

Rare earth-doped upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) have achieved a wide range of applications in the sensing field due to their unique anti-Stokes luminescence property, minimized background interference, excellent biocompatibility, and stable physicochemical properties. However, UCNPs-based sensing platforms still face several challenges, including inherent limitations from UCNPs such as low quantum yields and narrow absorption cross-sections, as well as constraints related to energy transfer efficiencies in sensing systems. Therefore, the construction of high-performance UCNPs-based sensing platforms is an important cornerstone for conducting relevant research. This work begins by providing a brief overview of the upconversion luminescence mechanism in UCNPs. Subsequently, it offers a comprehensive summary of the sensors' types, design principles, and optimized design strategies for UCNPs sensing platforms. More cost-effective and promising point-of-care testing applications implemented based on UCNPs sensing systems are also summarized. Finally, this work addresses the future challenges and prospects for UCNPs-based sensing platforms.

RESUMO

Surface Enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a molecular-specific analytical technique with various applications. Although electromagnetic (EM) and chemical (CM) mechanisms have been proposed to be the main origins of SERS, exploring highly sensitive SERS substrates with well-defined mechanistic pathways remains challenging. Since surface and electronic structures of substrates were crucial for SERS activity, zero-valent transition metals (Fe and Cu) were intercalated into MoO3 to modulate its surface and electronic structures, leading to unexceptional high enhancement factors (1.0×108 and 1.1×1010 for Fe-MoO3 and Cu-MoO3 , respectively) with decent reproducibility and stability. Interestingly, different mechanistic pathways (CM and EM) were proposed for Fe-MoO3 and Cu-MoO3 according to mechanistic investigations. The different mechanisms of Fe-MoO3 and Cu-MoO3 were rationalized by the electronic structures of the intercalated Fe(0) and Cu(0), which modulates the surface and electronic structures of Fe-MoO3 and Cu-MoO3 to differentiate their SERS mechanisms.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Zhou Tian Formula (ZTF) is an antidepressant traditional Chinese medicine utilized widely in clinical settings for the treatment of patients with depression. However, shortcomings persist in its extraction technology and quality control. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to propose a methodology for ZTF extraction technology based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP)-criteria importance through intercriteria correlation (CRITIC) method and to establish a quality control framework for the efficient transfer of index components. METHOD: Firstly, we analyzed the chemical components of ZTF and determined the optimal extraction technology. Secondly, we calculated the transfer efficiency of the index components during the conversion of water decoction to extract powder and subsequently to granules. Thirdly, we established HPLC fingerprints for 15 batches of ZTF water decoction, extract powder, and granules. We employed SIMCA software to analyze the chemicals responsible for variations in quality among different batches of ZTF granules. RESULTS: We determined the optimal extraction process. The average transfer efficiency of ferulic acid, puerarin, mirificin, isoferulic acid, and calycosin during the conversion of water decoction to extract powder and subsequently to granules exceeded 41%. The HPLC fingerprints of ZTF exhibited a similarity exceeding 0.890. Variable importance in projection values indicated that calycosin, ferulic acid, and puerarin were the primary contributors to quality variations. CONCLUSIONS: The AHP-CRITIC method, coupled with an orthogonal array design, could be used for exploring extraction technology. In addition, the rules governing the transfer of index components from water decoction to extract powder, and subsequently to granules, could be applied for the evaluation and quality assessment of ZTF.

RESUMO

Mating success of flowering plants depends strongly on the efficiencies of pollen removal from flowers and its subsequent dispersal to conspecific stigmas. We characterized the economy of pollen dispersal in flowering plants by analysing pollen fates and their correlates for 228 species. The mean percentage of pollen removed from flowers (removal efficiency) varied almost twofold according to the type of pollen-dispersal unit, from less than 45% for orchids and milkweeds with solid pollinia, to greater than 80% for species with granular monads or sectile (segmented) pollinia. The mean percentage of removed pollen reaching stigmas (pollen transfer efficiency, PTE) varied from 2.4% for species with separate monads to 27.0% for orchids with solid pollinia. These values tended to be higher in plants with single pollinator species and in those with non-grooming pollinators. Nectar production increased removal efficiency, but did not influence PTE. Among types of pollen-dispersal units, the net percentage of produced pollen that was dispersed to stigmas varied negatively with removal efficiency and positively with PTE, indicating the relative importance of the latter for overall pollen economy. These findings confirm the key importance of floral traits, particularly pollen packaging, for pollen dispersal outcomes and highlight the under-appreciated pollination efficiency of non-grooming pollinators.

RESUMO

Additional phase modulation (APM) is proposed to generally enhance the theoretical efficiency of homonuclear double-quantum (DQ) recoupling in solid-state NMR. APM applies an additional phase list to DQ recoupling in steps of an entire block. The sine-based phase list can enhance the theoretical efficiency by 15-30 %, from 0.52 to 0.68 (non-γ-encoded recoupling) or from 0.73 to 0.84 (γ-encoded recoupling), with doubled recoupling time. The genetic-algorithm (GA) optimized APM can adiabatically enhance the efficiency to ∼1.0 at longer times. The concept of APM has been tested on SPR-51 , BaBa, and SPR-31 , which represent γ-encoded recoupling, non-γ-encoded recoupling, and another kind beyond the former two, respectively. Simulations reveal that enhancements from APM are due to the activation of more crystallites in the powder. Experiments on 2,3-13 C labeled alanine are used to validate the APM recoupling. This new concept shall shed light on developing more efficient homonuclear recoupling methods.

RESUMO

PREMISE: Why have pollen grains evolved to be exceptionally large in some species? Pollen-feeding hypothesis suggests that if the proportion of pollen amounts for feeding is reduced in a flower, the low allocation to pollen number would allow pollen grains to be larger. METHODS: To examine whether species with large pollen grains experience low pollen consumption, the behavior of insects feeding on nectar and pollen was observed and pollen transfer efficiency was estimated for four visitor types in Geranium delavayi. To see whether bees actively collected pollen, the numbers of grains in pollen baskets and on the body were compared. Both nutritional value (total protein and lipid) and chemical defense (phenolic metabolites) in pollen against pollen feeders were measured. RESULTS: Bumblebees and honeybees foraged for nectar, rarely groomed pollen into corbiculae, and had >5× higher pollen transfer efficiency than smaller solitary bees and flies, which were pollen eaters that removed more pollen but deposited less. Pollen grains were characterized by low protein and high lipid content with a low protein-lipid ratio, an unfavorable combination for bumblebees. Three secondary metabolites were significantly higher in pollen grains (7.77 mg/g) than in petals (1.08 mg/g) or in nectar (0.44 mg/g), suggesting stronger chemical defense in pollen. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicated that large bees took nectar but little of the nutritionally poor and highly toxic pollen. These data support one prediction of the pollen-feeding hypothesis, that species with few and large pollen grains would also have low pollen-consumption rates.

RESUMO

PREMISE: The relative per-flower production of ovules and pollen varies broadly with angiosperm mating systems, with outcrossing types commonly producing more pollen grains per ovule than selfing types. The evolutionary causes of this variation are contentious, especially the relevance of pollination risk. Resolution of this debate may have been hampered by its focus on pollen:ovule (P:O) ratios rather than on the evolution of pollen and ovule numbers per se. METHODS: Using published mean ovule and pollen counts, we analyzed associations with the proportion of removed pollen that reaches stigmas (pollen-transfer efficiency) and differences between pollinator-dependent and autogamous forms within and among species. Analyses involved Bayesian methods that simultaneously considered variation in pollen and ovule numbers and accounted for phylogenetic relatedness. We also assessed the utility of P:O ratios as mating-system proxies and their association with female outcrossing rates. RESULTS: Median pollen number declined consistently with pollen-transfer efficiency among species, whereas median ovule number did not. Similarly, in both intraspecific and interspecific analyses, pollinator-dependent plants produced more pollen than autogamous plants, whereas ovule production did not differ statistically. Distributions of P:O ratios overlapped extensively for self-incompatible and self-compatible species and for different mating-system classes, and P:O ratios correlated weakly with outcrossing rate. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings demonstrate that pollinator dependence and pollination efficiency commonly influence the evolution of pollen number per flower but have more limited effects on ovule number. P:O ratios provide ambiguous, possibly misleading, information about mating systems, especially when compared among clades.

RESUMO

Perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS) and its alternatives, including chlorinated polyfluorinated ether sulfonates (Cl-PFESAs), are mainly detected per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in human samples such as milk. However, the mechanism of their blood to milk transfer was not well studied. Here, 145 paired maternal serum and human milk samples were analyzed for six PFOS isomers and Cl-PFESAs to evaluate the transfer efficiency from maternal serum to human milk (TEHM/MS). Besides physicochemical properties, this study for the first time evaluated the influencing effects of the primary components in human milk (carbohydrate, lipid, and protein) on TEHM/MS of PFAS. No significant association was observed between TEHM/MS and the albumin binding affinity of the compounds (p = 0.601), but TEHM/MS was significantly negatively correlated with the logarithmic octanol-water partition coefficients (r2 = 0.853, p = 0.001), the logarithmic membrane-water partition coefficients (r2 = 0.679, p = 0.012), and the carbohydrate contents in human milk. The effect of carbohydrate was further confirmed using in vitro tests. The negative associations between TEHM/MS and hydrophobicity, membrane passive permeability, and the carbohydrate content in human milk consistently indicated that passive diffusion through the paracellular route might be the main transfer pathway for PFOS and Cl-PFESAs from blood to milk in humans.

RESUMO

In wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), aeration is vital for microbial oxygen needs. To achieve carbon neutrality, optimizing aeration for energy and emissions reduction is imperative. Machine learning (ML) is used in wastewater treatment to reveal complex rules in large data sets has become a trend. In this vein, the present paper proposes an aeration optimization approach based on the extreme gradient boosting-bidirectional long short-term memory (XGB-Bi-LSTM) model via the online monitoring of oxygen transfer efficiency (OTE) and oxygen uptake rate (OUR), thus allowing WWTPs to conserve energy and reduce indirect carbon emissions. The approach uses gain algorithm of XGB to calculate the importance of features and identify important parameters, and then uses Bi-LSTM to predict the target with important parameters as features. Operational data from a WWTP in Suzhou, China, is employed to train and test the approach, the performance of which is compared with ML models suitable for regression prediction tasks (XGB, random forest, light gradient boosting machine, gradient boosting and LSTM). Experimental results show the approach requires only a small number of input parameters to achieve good performance and outperforms other machine-learning models. When OTE and dissolved oxygen (DO) are used as features to predict the alpha factor (αF; since diffusers were used, multiply by the pollution factor F), the R-squared (R2) is 0.9977, the root mean square error (RMSE) is 0.0043, the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) is 0.0069 and the median absolute error (MedAE) is 0.0032. When the predicted αF and the OUR are used as features to predict the air flow rate of an aeration unit, the R2 is 0.9901, the RMSE is 3.6150, the MAPE is 0.0209 and the MedAE is 1.5472. Using our optimized aeration approach, the energy consumption can be reduced by 23%.

RESUMO

This study consists of milk fatty acid (FA) data collected during 2 in vivo experiments. For this study, 8 cows from each experiment were included in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square design. At the start of experiment 1 (Exp1) cows were at (mean ± standard deviation) 87 ± 34.6 d in milk, 625 ± 85.0 kg of body weight, and 32.1 ± 4.17 kg/d milk yield and at the start of experiment 2 (Exp2) cows were at 74 ± 18.2 d in milk, 629 ± 87.0 kg of body weight, and 37.0 ± 3.2 kg/d milk yield. In Exp1, we examined the effects of gradual replacement of barley with hulled oats (oats with hulls) on milk FA composition. The basal diet was grass silage and rapeseed meal (58 and 10% of diet DM, respectively), and the 4 grain supplements were formulated so that barley was gradually replaced by hulled oats at levels of 0, 33, 67, and 100% on dry matter basis. In Exp2, we examined (1) the effects of replacing barley with both hulled and dehulled oats (oats without hulls) and (2) the effects of gradual replacement of hulled oats with dehulled oats on milk FA composition. The basal diet was grass silage and rapeseed meal (60 and 10% of diet DM, respectively), and the 4 pelleted experimental concentrates were barley, hulled oats, a 50:50 mixture of hulled and dehulled oats, and dehulled oats on dry matter basis. In Exp1, gradual replacement of barley with hulled oats decreased relative proportions of 14:0, 16:0, and total saturated FA (SFA) in milk fat linearly, whereas proportions of 18:0, 18:1, total monounsaturated FA, and total cis unsaturated FA increased linearly. Transfer efficiency of total C18 decreased linearly when barley was replaced by hulled oats in Exp1. In Exp2, relative proportions of 14:0, 16:0, and total SFA were lower, whereas proportions of 18:0, 18:1, monounsaturated FA, and cis unsaturated FA were higher in milk from cows fed the oat diets than in milk from cows fed the barley diet. Moreover, in Exp2, gradual replacement of hulled oats with dehulled oats slightly decreased the relative proportion of 14:0 in milk fat but did not affect the proportions of 16:0, 18:0, 18:1, total SFA, monounsaturated FA, trans FA, or polyunsaturated FA. In Exp2, transfer efficiency of total C18 was lower when cows were fed the oat diets than when fed the barley diet and decreased linearly when hulled oats were replaced with dehulled oats. Predictions of daily CH4 emissions (g/d) using the on-farm available variables energy-corrected milk yield and body weight were not markedly improved by including milk concentrations of individual milk FA in prediction equations. In conclusion, replacement of barley with oats as a concentrate supplement for dairy cows fed a grass silage-based diet could offer a practical strategy to change the FA composition of milk to be more in accordance with international dietary guidelines regarding consumption of SFA.

RESUMO

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless power transfer (WPT) technology which employs multiple transmitter (TX) coils to simultaneously couple power to the receiver (RX) coil has proved to be an effective technique to enhance power transfer efficiency (PTE). Conventional MIMO-WPT systems rely on the phase-calculation method based on the phased-array beam steering concept to constructively combine the magnetic fields induced by the multiple TX coils at the RX coil. However, increasing the number and distance of the TX coils in an attempt to enhance the PTE tends to deteriorate the received signal at the RX coil. In this paper, a phase-calculation method is presented that enhances the PTE of the MIMO-WPT system. The proposed phase-calculation method considers the coupling between the coils and applies the phase and amplitude to calculate the coil control data. From the experimental results, the transfer efficiency is enhanced as a result of the transmission coefficient improvement from a minimum of 2 dB to a maximum of 10 dB for the proposed method as compared to the conventional one. By implementing the proposed phase-control MIMO-WPT, high-efficiency wireless charging is realizable wherever electronic devices are located in a specific space.

RESUMO

The biological carbon pump is a key component of the marine carbon cycle. This surface-to-deep flux of carbon is usually assumed to follow a simple power law function, which imposes that the surface export flux is attenuated throughout subsurface waters at a rate dictated by the parameterization exponent. This flux attenuation exponent is widely assumed as constant. However, there is increasing evidence that the flux attenuation varies both spatially and seasonally. While the former has received some attention, the consequences of the latter have not been explored. Here we aim to fill the gap with a theoretical study of how seasonal changes in both flux attenuation and sinking speed affect nutrient distributions and carbon fluxes. Using a global ocean-biogeochemical model that represents detritus explicitly, we look at different scenarios for how these varies seasonally, particularly the relative "phase" with respect to solar radiation and the "strength" of seasonality. We show that the sole presence of seasonality in the model-imposed flux attenuation and sinking speed leads to a greater transfer efficiency compared to the non-seasonal flux attenuation scenario, resulting in an increase of over 140% in some cases when the amplitude of the seasonality imposed is 60% of the non-seasonal base value. This work highlights the importance of the feedback taking place between the seasonally varying flux attenuation, sinking speed and other processes, suggesting that the assumption of constant-in-time flux attenuation and sinking speed might underestimate how much carbon is sequestered by the biological carbon pump.

RESUMO

Per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS), ubiquitously present in the environment and biota, are transferred to the fetus via the placenta. PFAS can be distinguished, among other things, by their different carbon chain lengths and functional groups. The aim of this study was to provide comprehensive evidence on PFAS transfer rates across the human placental barrier by means of a meta-analysis based upon a systematic review. The available literature up to April 2021 was reviewed and transplacental transfer efficiencies (TTEs) of PFAS assessed. A total of 39 studies reporting data on 20 PFAS were included in the systematic review. Of these, 20 studies with data on 19 compounds were included in the meta-analysis. Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA v3.0) was used for quantitative, statistical analyses with random effects models. A curvilinear relationship was found with short and long chains of perfluorocarboxylic acids (PFCAs) exhibiting higher TTE than compounds with intermediate chain length. Among the less well studied PFAS, perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA), 6:2 fluorotelomersulfonic acid (6:2 FTS) and perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA) stood out the most with a high TEEs. The dependence of TTEs on chain length and functional group is clearly shown in this first meta-analysis on PFAS transfer across the human placenta. More data on effects of less well studied PFAS in pregnant women and neonates are needed to assess the potential risk for fetal exposure.

RESUMO

Organophosphate tri- and diesters (tri-OPEs and di-OPEs) were quantified in 63 paired maternal and cord whole blood samples collected in Hubei, China, in which tri-o-cresyl phosphate (ToCP) was predominant. The transplacental transfer efficiencies (expressed as cord blood to maternal blood (C:M) concentration ratios) of aryl-tri-OPEs, such as ToCP (1.61) and triphenyl phosphate (TPHP) (1.06), were higher than those of alkyl-tri-OPEs (0.66-0.76). For the target tri-OPEs and some traditional organic compounds, the C:M ratios first increased with log Kow in the range of 1.63-5.23 and then decreased, showing a parabolic relationship. However, ToCP, with a log Kow of 6.34, deviated from this relationship and displayed the highest C:M ratio (1.61). Molecular docking indicated a very strong binding affinity between ToCP and transthyretin, suggesting that ToCP might be actively transported by transthyretin in the placenta. The di-OPE levels in the blood samples were significantly lower than the corresponding tri-OPE levels, and those in the cord blood were influenced not only by their transplacental behaviors but also by their low excretion rates and the metabolic characteristics of their parent compounds in the fetus. This study provides useful information for accurately assessing the health risks posed by tri-OPEs to pregnant women and fetuses.

RESUMO

This is the first study in the last 15 years to analyze per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in breast milk collected from mothers (n = 50) in the United States, and our findings indicate that both legacy and current-use PFAS now contaminate breast milk, exposing nursing infants. Breast milk was analyzed for 39 PFAS, including 9 short-chain and 30 long-chain compounds, and 16 of these PFAS were detected in 4-100% of the samples. The ∑PFAS concentration in breast milk ranged from 52.0 to 1850 pg/mL with a median concentration of 121 pg/mL. Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) were the most abundant PFAS in these samples (medians 30.4 and 13.9 pg/mL, respectively). Two short-chain PFAS, including perfluoro-n-hexanoic acid (PFHxA, C6) and perfluoro-n-heptanoic acid (PFHpA, C7), were detected in most of the samples with median concentrations of 9.69 and 6.10 pg/mL, respectively. Analysis of the available breast milk PFAS data from around the world over the period of 1996-2019 showed that while the levels of the phased-out PFOS and PFOA have been declining with halving times of 8.1 and 17 years, respectively, the detection frequencies of current-use short-chain PFAS have been increasing with a doubling time of 4.1 years.

RESUMO

This study applies a multilayer coil technology that can compensate for a decrease in transfer efficiency due to a lateral misalignment in a practical 100 kHz-band wireless power transfer system and validates its effect on the efficiency of compensation. The effectiveness is investigated using coils fabricated with Litz wires. Three-turn rectangular assistant coils 22.4 × 45.3 mm2 in size were stacked on a five-turn circular primary coil with a diameter of 45.3 mm in a 2 × 1 array. Transfer efficiency between two such coils was measured by producing lateral misalignment, while maintaining the vertical distance between the Tx and Rx coils at 7 mm. The experimental results showed that the transfer efficiency was compensated by approximately 46.1%P maximum in a misalignment state of 30 mm, which corresponded to 67% of the maximum size of the coil, compared to the transfer efficiency of the structure, in which the multilayer coil was not applied. Furthermore, transfer efficiency was compensated by 37.6%P, even in an asymmetric system in which the multilayer structure was applied only to the Tx coil, thereby confirming an excellent multilayer coil technology effect on compensation for lateral misalignment in practical cases.

RESUMO

In this article, the design of an efficient wireless power transfer (WPT) system using antenna-based topology for the applications in wearable devices is presented. To implement the wearable WPT system, a simple circular patch antenna is initially designed on a flexible felt substrate by placing over a three-layer human tissue model to utilize as a receiving element. Meanwhile, a high gain circular patch antenna is also designed in the air environment to use as a transmitter for designing the wearable WPT link. The proposed WPT system is built to operate at the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) band of 2.40-2.48 GHz. In addition, to improve the power transfer efficiency (PTE) of the system, a metamaterial (MTM) slab built with an array combination of 3 × 3 unit cells has been employed. Further, the performance analysis of the MTM integrated system is performed on the different portions of the human body like hand, head and torso model to present the versatile applicability of the system. Moreover, analysis of the specific absorption rate (SAR) has been performed in different wearable scenarios to show the effect on the human body under the standard recommended limits. Regarding the practical application issues, the performance stability analysis of the proposed system due to the misalignment and flexibility of the Rx antenna is executed. Finally, the prototypes are fabricated and experimental validation is performed on several realistic wearable platforms like three-layer pork tissue slab, human hand, head and body. The simulated and measured result confirms that by using the MTM slab, a significant amount of the PTE improvement is obtained from the proposed system.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors have recently become attractive candidate substrates for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, exhibiting good semiconductor-based SERS sensing for a wider variety of application scenarios. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Herein, we propose that surface defects play a vital role in the magnification of the SERS performances of 2D semiconductors. As a prototype material, ultrathin WO3 nanosheets is used to demonstrate that surface defect sites and the resulting increased charge-carrier density can induce strong charge-transfer interactions at the substrate-molecule interface, thereby improving the sensitivity of the SERS substrate by 100 times with high reproducibility. Further work with other metal oxides suggests the reduced dimension of 2D materials can be advantageous in promoting SERS sensing for multiple probe molecules.

RESUMO

Sea water temperature affects all biological and ecological processes that ultimately impact ecosystem functioning. In this study, we examine the influence of temperature on global biomass transfers from marine secondary production to fish stocks. By combining fisheries catches in all coastal ocean areas and life-history traits of exploited marine species, we provide global estimates of two trophic transfer parameters which determine biomass flows in coastal marine food web: the trophic transfer efficiency (TTE) and the biomass residence time (BRT) in the food web. We find that biomass transfers in tropical ecosystems are less efficient and faster than in areas with cooler waters. In contrast, biomass transfers through the food web became faster and more efficient between 1950 and 2010. Using simulated changes in sea water temperature from three Earth system models, we project that the mean TTE in coastal waters would decrease from 7.7% to 7.2% between 2010 and 2100 under the 'no effective mitigation' representative concentration pathway (RCP8.5), while BRT between trophic levels 2 and 4 is projected to decrease from 2.7 to 2.3 years on average. Beyond the global trends, we show that the TTEs and BRTs may vary substantially among ecosystem types and that the polar ecosystems may be the most impacted ecosystems. The detected and projected changes in mean TTE and BRT will undermine food web functioning. Our study provides quantitative understanding of temperature effects on trophodynamic of marine ecosystems under climate change.
