Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a highly contagious infection and threating the human lives in the world. The elevation of cytokines in blood is crucial to induce cytokine storm and immunosuppression in the transition of severity in COVID-19 patients. However, the comprehensive changes of serum proteins in COVID-19 patients throughout the SARS-CoV-2 infection is unknown. In this work, we developed a high-density antibody microarray and performed an in-depth proteomics analysis of serum samples collected from early COVID-19 (n = 15) and influenza (n = 13) patients. We identified a large set of differentially expressed proteins (n = 132) that participate in a landscape of inflammation and immune signaling related to the SARS-CoV-2 infection. Furthermore, the significant correlations of neutrophil and lymphocyte with the CCL2 and CXCL10 mediated cytokine signaling pathways was identified. These information are valuable for the understanding of COVID-19 pathogenesis, identification of biomarkers and development of the optimal anti-inflammation therapy.

BACKGROUND: The research into the recurrence of cough variant asthma (CVA) in congenital heart disease (CHD) are few in number. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of CHD on the risk of the recurrence of CVA. METHODS: This study was a retrospective cohort study of 489 children with CVA aged between one and 14 years, of whom 67 had CHD complicated with CVA and 134 had CVA without CHD at a ratio of 1:2 according to age, sex and index year. The adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) of CVA recurrence in both the CHD cohort and the non-CHD cohort was determined by multivariate analysis using the Cox proportional hazard regression model. RESULTS: Adjusting for CHD classification, Mycoplasma pneumonia (MP) infection and immunoglobulin E (IgE) sensitization, the recurrence hazard of CVA in the complex congenital heart disease (CCHD) group (aHR = 3.281; 95% CI 1.648-6.530; P < 0.01) was significantly higher than that in the simple congenital heart disease group (aHR = 2.555; 95% CI 1.739-3.752; P < 0.01). Further, children with IgE sensitization (aHR = 2.172; 95% CI 1.482-3.184; P < 0.01) had a higher recurrence hazard of CVA than those without IgE sensitization, and children with MP infection (aHR = 1.777; 95% CI 1.188-2.657; P < 0.01) had a higher recurrence hazard of CVA than those without the MP infection. CONCLUSION: The hazard of recurrent CVA is higher in children with CHD, especially in the CCHD children. In addition, those children with IgE sensitization or a MP infection had an increased hazard of recurrent CVA.

BACKGROUND COVID-19 has become a worldwide epidemic disease and is a public health crisis. We aim to provide evidence for clinical diagnosis and assessment of severity by analyzing patients' clinical data and early laboratory results and exploring the correlation between laboratory results and clinical classification. MATERIAL AND METHODS We enrolled 283 cases of suspected and diagnosed COVID-19 from 16 hospitals in Jiangsu Province from January to April 2020. The routine laboratory blood examinations, T lymphocyte subsets, and biochemical and coagulation function among different populations were contrasted by t test and chi-square (χ²) test. RESULTS Cough, fever, and dyspnea could be helpful to diagnose COVID-19 infection (P<0.05). Patients who were older or had comorbidities tended to become severe and critical cases. Among all the patients, the most obvious abnormal laboratory results were higher neutrophil count, CRP, total bilirubin, BUN, CRE, APTT, PT, and D-dimer, and lower blood platelet and lymphocyte count. CD3⺠T cell, CD4⺠T cell, and CD8⺠T cell counts gradually decreased with exacerbation of the disease (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Cough and fever were the most common symptom. Patients with comorbidities were in more serious condition. The detection of inflammatory indexes, coagulation function, lymphocyte subsets, and renal function can help diagnose and assess the severity of COVID-19.

BACKGROUND: Cough variant asthma (CVA) is one of the special populations of asthma. The aim of the study was to compare small airways, the degree of bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR) and airway inflammatory subtypes between CVA and classic asthma (CA), and investigate the relationship between these markers to determine the accuracy as indicators of CVA. METHODS: A total of 825 asthmatic patients participated in the study and 614 were included. 614 patients underwent spirometry and a bronchial challenge with methacholine and 459 patients performed induction sputum cell test. RESULTS: The number of CVA patients showed less small airway dysfunction than those of CA patients (p < 0.005). The degree of small airways dysfunction was higher in the CA group compared with the CVA group (p < 0.001). Small airways dysfunction was severer in the eosinophilic airway inflammatory subtype compared with other subtypes (p < 0.05).The area under curve of MMEF, FEF50 and FEF75 (% predicted) was 0.615, 0.621, 0.606, respectively. 0.17mcg of PD20 and 4.7% of sputum eosinophils was the best diagnostic value for CVA with an AUC of 0.582 and 0.575 (p = 0.001 and p = 0.005, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The eosinophilic airway inflammatory subtype may be increased small airway dysfunction. The value of small airways, BHR and induction sputum cells in CVA prediction, which reflected significant, but not enough to be clinically useful.

Cough is a defense mechanism, but when it becomes persistent and troublesome, it must be carefully assessed. Chronic cough, that is, cough persisting for more than 4 weeks, has a proven negative impact on a child's quality of life; it interferes with daily activities, sleep, and schooling and may involve frequent health care visits and long-lasting treatments. Currently, there is a plethora of algorithms in the literature aiming to assist in the assessment of chronic cough in children; however, referring to complex flowcharts may be impractical for the usually busy primary care physician. Herein, we provide a simplified tool for the assessment of children with chronic cough in the primary care setting, presenting a basic approach to the most common causes along with hints to avoid common pitfalls in everyday practice. Finally, the most common clinical scenarios are analyzed, aiming to assist primary care physicians in providing the appropriate care to these patients.

The current systematic review presented and discussed the most recent studies on pediatric chronic cough. In addition, the Italian Society of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology elaborated a comprehensive algorithm to guide the primary care approach to a pediatric patient with chronic cough.Several algorithms on chronic cough management have been adopted and validated in clinical practice; however, unlike the latter, we developed an algorithm focused on pediatric age, from birth until adulthood. Based on our findings, children and adolescents with chronic cough without cough pointers can be safely managed, initially using the watchful waiting approach and, successively, starting empirical treatment based on cough characteristics. Unlike other algorithms that suggest laboratory and instrumental investigations as a first step, this review highlighted the importance of a "wait and see" approach, consisting of parental reassurance and close clinical observation, also due to inter-professional collaboration and communication between general practitioners and specialists that guarantee better patient management, appropriate prescription behavior, and improved patient outcome. Moreover, the neonatal screening program provided by the Italian National Health System, which intercepts several diseases precociously, allowing to treat them in a very early stage, helps and supports a "wait and see" approach.Conversely, in the presence of cough pointers or persistence of cough, the patient should be tested and treated by the specialist. Further investigations and treatments will be based on cough etiology, aiming to intercept the underlying disease, prevent potentially irreversible tissue damage, and improve the general health of patients affected by chronic cough, as well as the quality of life of patients and their family.

After that, the Italian Society of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology elaborated a comprehensive algorithm to guide the primary care approach to pediatric patients, such as infants, children, and adolescents, with acute cough. An acute cough is usually consequent to upper respiratory tract infections and is self-resolving within a few weeks. However, an acute cough may be bothersome, and therefore remedies are requested, mainly by the parents. An acute cough may significantly affect the quality of life of patients and their family.Several algorithms for the management of acute cough have been adopted and validated in clinical practice; however, unlike the latter, we developed an algorithm focused on pediatric age, and, also, in accordance to the Italian National Health System, which regularly follows the child from birth to all lifelong. Based on our findings, infants from 6 months, children, and adolescents with acute cough without cough pointers can be safely managed using well-known medications, preferably non-sedative agents, such as levodropropizine and/or natural compounds, including honey, glycerol, and herb-derived components.

BACKGROUND: Perilla seed oil (PSO) is the main constituent of perilla seeds currently being used in the food industry, however it also has great clinical potential in the regulation of lung function as a nutrition supplement because of the high content of α-linolenic acid (ALA). In this study, the pharmacological activities including anti-tussive, expectorant and anti-inflammatory effect of PSO were performed. Furthermore, the 90-day sub-chronic oral toxicity with a 30 day recovery period was evaluated in Wistar rats. RESULTS: The pharmacological studies demonstrated that PSO inhibited cough frequency induced by capsaicine in mice. PSO also inhibited the leukotriene B4 (LTB4) release from the calcium ionophore A23187-induced polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) to some extent. In this sub-chronic toxicity study, mortality, clinical signs, body weight, food consumption, hematology, serum biochemistry, urinalysis, organ weight, necropsy, and histopathology were used to evaluate the toxicity of PSO. Lower body weight and various negative impacts on liver related parameters without histopathological lesion were observed in the 16 g kg-1 groups. No clinically significant changes were discovered in the 4 g kg-1 group during the test period. CONCLUSION: In summary, PSO exhibited anti-tussive and anti-inflammatory activities in vivo and in vitro. These sub-chronic toxicity studies inferred that the 'no-observed adverse effect level' (NOAEL) of PSO in Wistar rats was determined to be 4 g kg-1 . These results may provide a safety profile and a valuable reference for the use of PSO. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

BACKGROUND: In December 2019, coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) emerged in Wuhan and rapidly spread throughout China. METHODS: Demographic and clinical data of all confirmed cases with COVID-19 on admission at Tongji Hospital from 10 January to 12 February 2020 were collected and analyzed. The data on laboratory examinations, including peripheral lymphocyte subsets, were analyzed and compared between patients with severe and nonsevere infection. RESULTS: Of the 452 patients with COVID-19 recruited, 286 were diagnosed as having severe infection. The median age was 58 years and 235 were male. The most common symptoms were fever, shortness of breath, expectoration, fatigue, dry cough, and myalgia. Severe cases tend to have lower lymphocyte counts, higher leukocyte counts and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), as well as lower percentages of monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils. Most severe cases demonstrated elevated levels of infection-related biomarkers and inflammatory cytokines. The number of T cells significantly decreased, and were more impaired in severe cases. Both helper T (Th) cells and suppressor T cells in patients with COVID-19 were below normal levels, with lower levels of Th cells in the severe group. The percentage of naive Th cells increased and memory Th cells decreased in severe cases. Patients with COVID-19 also have lower levels of regulatory T cells, which are more obviously decreased in severe cases. CONCLUSIONS: The novel coronavirus might mainly act on lymphocytes, especially T lymphocytes. Surveillance of NLR and lymphocyte subsets is helpful in the early screening of critical illness, diagnosis, and treatment of COVID-19.

COVID-19 rapidly turned to a global pandemic posing lethal threats to overwhelming health care capabilities, despite its relatively low mortality rate. The clinical respiratory symptoms include dry cough, fever, anosmia, breathing difficulties, and subsequent respiratory failure. No known cure is available for COVID-19. Apart from the anti-viral strategy, the supports of immune effectors and modulation of immunosuppressive mechanisms is the rationale immunomodulation approach in COVID-19 management. Diet and nutrition are essential for healthy immunity. However, a group of micronutrients plays a dominant role in immunomodulation. The deficiency of most nutrients increases the individual susceptibility to virus infection with a tendency for severe clinical presentation. Despite a shred of evidence, the supplementation of a single nutrient is not promising in the general population. Individuals at high-risk for specific nutrient deficiencies likely benefit from supplementation. The individual dietary and nutritional status assessments are critical for determining the comprehensive actions in COVID-19.

This study aims to observe the clinical characteristics of recovered patients from Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) with positive in reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) or serum antibody. The profile, clinical symptoms, laboratory outcomes, and radiologic assessments were extracted on 11 patients, who tested positive for COVID-19 with RT-PCR or serum antibody after discharged and was admitted to Hubei No. 3 People's Hospital of Jianghan University for a second treatment in March 2020. The average interval time between the first discharge and the second admission measured 16.00 ± 7.14 days, ranging from 6 to 27 days. In the second hospitalization, one patient was positive for RT-PCR and serum antibody immunoglobulin M (IgM)-immunoglobulin G (IgG), five patients were positive for both IgM and IgG but negative for RT-PCR. Three patients were positive for both RT-PCR and IgG but negative for IgM. The main symptoms were cough (54.55%), fever (27.27%), and feeble (27.27%) in the second hospitalization. Compared with the first hospitalization, there were significant decreases in gastrointestinal symptoms (5 vs 0, P = .035), elevated levels of both white blood cell count (P = .036) and lymphocyte count (P = .002), remarkedly decreases in C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A (P < .05) in the second hospitalization. Additionally, six patients' chest computed tomography (CT) exhibited notable improvements in acute exudative lesions. There could be positive results for RT-PCR analysis or serum IgM-IgG in discharged patients, even with mild clinical symptoms, however, their laboratory outcomes and chest CT images would not indicate the on-going development in those patients.

Objective: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is an important cause of chronic cough. Substance P (SP) has been implicated in the pathophysiology of cough. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and prokinetic agents are the current treatment for GER-associated cough. The aim was to evaluate the effects of anti-reflux treatment and its associations with cellular and neurogenic inflammation.Methods: Thirty-seven patients with GER-associated cough suspected based on characteristic symptoms such as heartburn and worsening of cough by phonation and rising were recruited. A PPI, rabeprazole 20 mg daily, and a prokinetic agent, itopride 50 mg t.i.d., were administered for 4 weeks in a prospective, observational manner. Before and after treatment, subjective cough measures [visual analog scale (VAS) and the Japanese version of the Leicester Cough Questionnaire (J-LCQ)], the modified frequency scale for the symptoms of GERD [FSSG, consisting of 2 domains: acid-reflux (AR) and functional dyspepsia symptoms], sputum and plasma SP levels, and sputum cell differentials were examined. Patients with good response to treatment [Δ (decrease of) VAS >15 mm; n = 21) were compared with poor responders (ΔVAS ≤15 mm).Results: Anti-reflux treatment significantly improved the cough VAS, J-LCQ, and AR symptoms, and ΔVAS and ΔAR were significantly correlated. Decreases of plasma and sputum SP levels and sputum neutrophil counts were significantly greater in responders than in poor responders. Both baseline values and post-treatment changes of plasma SP and sputum neutrophils were significantly correlated for all patients.Conclusions: Successful treatment of GER-associated cough may be associated with the attenuation of neurogenic and neutrophilic inflammation.

BACKGROUND: Cough is a common and troublesome symptom in asthmatic patients, but little is known about the neuronal pathways that trigger cough. The mechanisms by which airway inflammation, airway hyperresponsiveness, and variable airflow obstruction cause cough are unclear. OBJECTIVE: We sought to investigate the effects of allergen exposure on cough reflex sensitivity. METHODS: We performed a 9-visit, randomized, single-blind, placebo-controlled, 2-way crossover study comparing cough responses to inhaled capsaicin in patients with mild atopic asthma after allergen challenge compared with diluent control. Full-dose capsaicin challenge was performed at screening to determine the capsaicin dose inducing a half-maximal response, which was subsequently administered at 30 minutes and 24 hours after inhaled allergen/diluent challenge. Spontaneous coughing was measured for 24 hours after allergen/diluent. Methacholine challenge and sputum induction were performed before and after allergen/diluent challenge. RESULTS: Twelve steroid-naive subjects completed the study (6 female subjects; mean age, 34.8 years). Allergen inhalation caused both an early (mean ± SD, 38.2% ± 13.0%) and late (mean ± SD, 23.7% ± 13.2%) decrease in FEV1 and an increase in sputum eosinophil counts 24 hours later (after diluent: median, 1.9% [interquartile range, 0.8% to 5.8%]; after allergen: median, 14.9% [interquartile range, 8.9% to 37.3%]; P = .005). There was also an increase in capsaicin-evoked coughs after allergen exposure compared with diluent at both 30 minutes (geometric mean coughs, 21.9 [95% CI, 16.5-29.20] vs 12.1 [95% CI, 8.3-17.7]; P < .001) and 24 hours (geometric mean coughs, 16.1 [95% CI, 11.3-23.0] vs 9.8 [95% CI, 6.1-15.8]; P = .001). Allergen exposure was also associated with an increase in spontaneous coughs over 24 hours. CONCLUSION: Allergen-induced bronchoconstriction and airway eosinophilia result in increased cough reflex sensitivity to capsaicin associated with an increase in 24-hour spontaneous coughing.

BACKGROUND: The pathogenesis and pathophysiology of eosinophilia-related chronic cough such as non-asthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis and cough variant asthma are still not clear. OBJECTIVE: This study is to examine the potential role of traffic-related air pollution (TRAP) in eosinophilic inflammation and cough responses. METHODS: Non-sensitized guinea-pigs were exposed to TRAP in an urban traffic tunnel or kept in a filtered air environment for 7 or 14 days. Reflexive cough was measured using citric acid and allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) challenges, respectively. Spontaneous cough counting was determined using audio recording and a waveform analysis. Airway inflammation was evaluated using differential cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and lung histopathology. To further elucidate the relationship between airway inflammation and cough hypersensitivity, a subgroup of those exposed for 14 days received a dexamethasone treatment. RESULTS: Compared to reflexive cough count (mean (95% confidence interval) in 10 minutes) provoked by the AITC challenge for the unexposed animals (3.1 (1.7-4.5)), those were increased significantly following both the 7-day (12.0 (6.8-17.2), P < 0.01) and the 14-day (12.0 (6.4-17.6), P < 0.01) TRAP exposure. The effect provoked by the citric acid challenge was more profound following the 14-day exposure (26.0 (19.5-32.5) vs 3.8 (1.5-6.0) for the control, P < 0.001). TRAP exposures enhanced spontaneous cough events, caused a significant increase of eosinophils and neutrophils in BALF and resulted in a dramatic eosinophilic infiltration in submucosal layer of trachea and bronchus, which can be inhibited significantly by dexamethasone treatment. CONCLUSIONS & CLINICAL RELEVANCE: TRAP exposures induced cough hypersensitivity and non-allergic eosinophilic inflammation of airways in guinea-pigs. This study highlights the potential mechanisms of eosinophilia-related chronic cough that can be induced by traffic-related air pollution.

Cough is an essential defensive behavior for maintaining airway patency and to protect the lungs from potentially harmful agents. However, inflammatory pathologies can sensitize and activate the neural pathways regulating cough, leading to excessive and nonproductive coughing that serves little protective utility. Problematic cough continues to be one of the most common reasons for seeking medical advice, yet for many patients, it can be refractory to disease-specific treatments and currently available antitussive therapies. The effect of inflammation on cough neural processing occurs not only at the level of the bronchopulmonary sensory nerve terminals but also within the nervous system at multiple peripheral and central sites. Sensory nerves also actively regulate inflammation, and it is therefore a complex interplay between the immune and nervous systems that contributes to chronic cough and the associated sensory hypersensitivities. In this review we provide a brief overview of cough neurobiology in health and disease and then explore the peripheral and central nervous system sites at which neuroimmune interactions can occur. We present advancements in the development of effective antitussive therapies and suggest novel targets for future consideration.

OBJECTIVES: The present cross-sectional study aimed to estimate the prevalence of chronic respiratory symptoms in primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) and define the clinical, functional and imaging characteristics of symptomatic pulmonary disease in pSS. METHODS: Four hundred and fourteen consecutive pSS patients were interviewed for the presence of chronic respiratory complaints (cough and/or dyspnea). Symptomatic pSS patients without respiratory or other comorbidities underwent further investigation with clinical evaluation and assessment with pulmonary functional testing (PFTs) and chest high resolution CT (hrCT) on inspiratory and expiratory phase. Comparison of clinical and laboratory features between symptomatic and asymptomatic pSS patients was also performed. RESULTS: Prevalence of chronic respiratory symptoms in pSS was estimated at 21.5% (89/414). Symptoms were attributed to underlying comorbidities in approximately one third of cases (30/89). Thirty nine of the remaining 59 patients were finally assessed with PFTs and hrCT. Small airway disease was diagnosed in 20 individuals with an obstructive pattern in PFTs and/or compatible radiological signs. Seven patients were diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, while in the remaining 12 pSS patients, with normal PFTs and hrCT, symptoms were attributed to xerotrachea. Raynaud's phenomenon occurred more frequently in symptomatic than asymptomatic patients (p=0.024). CONCLUSIONS: Approximately one fifth of a large cohort of pSS patients presented chronic respiratory symptoms. Small airway disease was the most commonly recognized pulmonary disorder among symptomatic pSS patients, followed by xerotrachea and interstitial lung disease.

The binary approach to the diagnosis of Chronic Bronchitis (CB) is a major barrier to the study of the disease. We investigated whether severity of productive cough can be graded using symptoms and presence of fixed airflow obstruction (FAO), and whether the severity correlates with health status, exposures injurious to the lung, biomarkers of inflammation, and measures of airway wall thickening. Findings from a cross-sectional sample of 1,422 participants from the Lovelace Smokers Cohort (LSC) were validated in 4,488 participants from the COPDGene cohort (COPDGene). Health status was based on the St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire, and Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey. Circulating CC16 levels were quantified by ELISA (LSC), and airway wall thickening was measured using computed tomography (COPDGene). FAO was defined as postbronchodilator FEV1/FVC <0.7. The presence and duration of productive cough and presence of FAO or wheeze were graded into Healthy Smokers, Productive Cough (PC), Chronic PC, PC with Signs of Airflow Obstruction, and Chronic PC with Signs of Airflow Obstruction. In both cohorts, higher grade of severity correlated with lower health status, greater frequency of injurious exposures, greater airway wall thickening, and lower circulating CC16 levels. Further, longitudinal follow-up suggested that disease resolution can occur at every grade of severity but is more common in groups of lower severity and least common once airway remodeling develops. Therefore, severity of productive cough can be graded based on symptoms and FAO and early intervention may benefit patients by changing the natural history of disease.

Cough is one of the most common complaints for which sufferers seek medical assistance. However, currently available drugs are not very effective in treating cough, particularly that which follows an upper respiratory tract infection. Nonetheless, there has been a significant increase in our understanding of the mechanisms and pathways of the defensive cough as well as the hypersensitive/pathophysiological cough, both at airway and central nervous system (CNS) levels. Numerous molecules and signaling pathways have been identified as potential targets for antitussive drugs, including neurotrophins (NTs). NTs belong to a family of trophic factors and are critical for the development and maintenance of neurons in the central and peripheral nervous system including sympathetic efferents, sensory neuron afferents, and immune cells. Nerve growth factor (NGF) was the first member of the NT family to be discovered, with wide ranging actions associated with synapse formation, survival, proliferation, apoptosis, axonal and dendritic outgrowth, expression and activity of functionally important proteins such as ion channels, receptors, and neurotransmitters. In addition, NGF has been implicated in several disease states particularly neuropathic pain and most recently in the sensitization of the cough reflex. This review will briefly address the peripheral and central sensitization mechanisms of airway neurons and will then focus on NGF signaling and its role in cough hypersensitivity.

BACKGROUND: Cough-variant asthma (CVA) and cough-predominant asthma (CPA) are the major causes of persistent cough in Japan. The utility of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) measurement in the differential diagnosis of persistent cough has been reported, but the influence of atopic status, which is associated with higher FeNO levels, on the diagnostic utility of FeNO has been unknown. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 105 non-smoking patients with prolonged and chronic cough that were not treated with corticosteroids and anti-leukotrienes. RESULTS: CPA was diagnosed in 37 patients, CVA in 40, and non-asthmatic cough (NAC) in 28. FeNO levels were significantly higher in the CPA [35.8 (7.0-317.9) ppb] and CVA [24.9 (3.1-156.0) ppb] groups than in the NAC group [18.2 (6.9-49.0) ppb] (p < 0.01 by Kruskal-Wallis test). The optimal cut-off for distinguishing asthmatic cough (AC; CPA and CVA) from NAC was 29.2 ppb [area under the curve (AUC) 0.74, p < 0.01]. Ninety-one percent of subjects with FeNO levels ≥29.2 ppb had AC. Meanwhile, 40% of AC patients had FeNO levels <29.2 ppb. Stratified cut-off levels were 31.1 ppb (AUC 0.83) in atopic subjects vs. 19.9 ppb (AUC 0.65) in non-atopic subjects (p = 0.03 for AUC). CONCLUSIONS: Although high FeNO levels suggested the existence of AC, lower FeNO levels had limited diagnostic significance. Atopic status affects the utility of FeNO levels in the differential diagnosis of prolonged and chronic cough.
