RESUMO

Although constructing heterostructures is considered as one of the most successful strategies to improve the activity of a catalyst, the heterostructures usually suffer from the cumbersome preparation treatments and low-yield. Inspired by a solid-phase solution-precipitation (SPSP) process, an approach for interface intensive heterostructures with high yield is developed. Herein, a black-phosphorus/iron-tetraphosphide (BP/FeP4 ) heterostructure is prepared mechanochemically with high transient pressure by the solid-phase ball milling approach. The BP/FeP4 heterostructure delivers excellent catalytic performance in the nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) as exemplified by an NH3 yield of 77.6 µg h-1 mg cat . - 1 \[{\rm{mg}}_{{\rm{cat}}{\rm{.}}}^{{\bm{ - }}1}\] and Faradic efficiency of 62.9% (-0.2 V), which are superior to that of most NRR catalysts recently reported. Experimental investigation and density-functional theory calculation indicate the importance of excess phosphorus in the heterostructures on the NRR activity, which assists the Fe atom to activate N2 via adsorbing the H atom. The results demonstrate the great potential of this new type of heterostructures prepared by the SPSP approach. Benefiting from the simple preparation process and low cost, the heterostructures offer a new insight into the development of highly efficient catalysts.

RESUMO

Two dimensional (2D) nanoribbons constitute an emerging nanoarchitecture for advanced microelectronics and energy conversion due to the stronger size confinement effects compared to traditional nanosheets. Triclinic crystalline red phosphorus (cRP) composed by a layered structure is a promising 2D phosphorus allotrope and the tube-like substructure is beneficial to the construction of nanoribbons. In this work, few-layer cRP nanoribbons are synthesized and the effectiveness in the electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) is investigated. An iodine-assisted chemical vapor transport (CVT) method is developed to synthesize circa 10 g of bulk cRP lumps with a yield of over 99 %. With the aid of probe ultrasonic treatment, high-quality cRP microcrystals are exfoliated into few-layer nanoribbons (cRP NRs) with large aspect ratios. As non-metallic materials, cRP NRs are suitable for the electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction. The ammonia yield is 15.4 µg h-1 mgcat. -1 at -0.4 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode in a neutral electrolyte under ambient conditions and the Faradaic efficiency is 9.4 % at -0.2 V. Not only is cRP a promising catalyst, but also the novel strategy expands the application of phosphorus-based 2D structures beyond that of traditional nanosheets.

RESUMO

Aim We aimed to identify clinical characteristics and risk factors associated with onset of high-altitude headache (HAH) after acute exposure at 3700 m. Method In two hours, 163 individuals ascended by plane to 3700 m. Demographic information, physiological and psychological measurements, cognitive function, physical work capacity tests and profile of mood states within one week prior to the departure and within 24 hours after arrival were examined. Results HAH patients featured significantly higher vertebral artery diastolic velocity (Vd), heart rate (HR) and pulmonary artery diameter. HAH was also associated with a more negative mood state, including scores for tension anxiety, depression, hostility, fatigue and confusion, as well as lower vigor (all p values <0.05). Furthermore, negative emotions were positively related to HAH severity. HAH slightly decreased cognitive functioning. HR, Vd, lack of vigor, confusion and self-reported anxiety (all p values <0.05) were independent risk factors for HAH. We have identified three independent baseline predictors for HAH including internal diameter of the left ventricle (LVD), Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS) and confusion score. Conclusions Higher HR, Vd, confusion and self-reported anxiety and insufficient vigor were independent risk factors for HAH. Furthermore, higher baseline LVD, AIS and confusion score are independent predictors of HAH.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to identify the systemic and cerebral hemodynamic characteristics and their roles in high-altitude headache (HAH) among young Chinese men following acute exposure. METHODS: The subjects (n = 385) were recruited in June and July of 2012. They completed case report form questionnaires, as well as heart rate (HR), blood pressure, echocardiogram and transcranial Doppler examinations at 3700 m following a two-hour plane flight. A subgroup of 129 participants was examined at two altitudes (500 and 3700 m). RESULTS: HAH was characterized by increased HR and cardiac output (CO) and lower saturation pulse oxygen (SpO(2)) (all p < 0.05). The change in tricuspid regurgitation was also different between the HAH positive (HAH+) and HAH negative (HAH-) subjects. Furthermore, the HAH+ subjects exhibited faster mean (V(m)), systolic (V(s)) and diastolic (V(d)) velocities in the basilar artery (BA; all p < 0.05) and a faster V(d) ( 25.96 ± 4.97 cm/s vs. 24.76 ± 4.76 cm/s, p = 0.045) in the left vertebral artery (VA). The bilateral VA asymmetry was also significantly different between the two groups. The pulsatility index (PI) and resistance index (RI) of left VA were lower in the HAH subjects (p < 0.05) and were negatively correlated with HAH (p < 0.05). Baseline CO and Vm in left VA (or right MCA in different regressions) were independent predictors for HAH, whereas CO/HR and ΔV(d) (V(d) difference between bilateral VAs) were independent risk factors for HAH at 3700 m. CONCLUSIONS: HAH was characterized, in part, by increased systemic hemodynamics and posterior cerebral circulation, which was reflected by the BA and left VA velocities, and lower arterial resistance and compliance. Furthermore, baseline CO and V(m) in left VA or right MCA at sea level were independent predictors for HAH, whilst bilateral VA asymmetry may contribute to the development of HAH at high altitude.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: We aimed at identifying the cerebral hemodynamic characteristics of acute mountain sickness (AMS). METHODS: Transcranial Doppler (TCD) sonography examinations were performed between 18 and 24 h after arrival at 3,700 m via plane from 500 m (n = 454). A subgroup of 151 subjects received TCD examinations at both altitudes. RESULTS: The velocities of the middle cerebral artery, vertebral artery (VA) and basilar artery (BA) increased while the pulsatility indexes (PIs) and resistance indexes (RIs) decreased significantly (all p < 0.05). Velocities of BA were higher in AMS (AMS+) individuals when compared with non-AMS (AMS-) subjects (systolic velocity: 66 ± 12 vs. 69 ± 15 cm/s, diastolic velocity: 29 ± 7 vs. 31 ± 8 cm/s and mean velocity, 42 ± 9 vs. 44 ± 10 cm/s). AMS was characterized by higher diastolic velocity [V d_VA (26 ± 4 vs. 25 ± 4, p = 0.013)] with lower PI and RI (both p = 0.004) in VA. Furthermore, the asymmetry index (AI) of VAs was significantly lower in the AMS + group [-5.7 % (21.0 %) vs. -2.5 % (17.8 %), p = 0.016]. The AMS score was closely correlated with the hemodynamic parameters of BA and the V d_VA, PI, RI and AI of VA. CONCLUSION: AMS is associated with alterations in cerebral hemodynamics in the posterior circulation rather than the anterior one, and is characterized by higher blood velocity with lower resistance. In addition, the asymmetry of VAs may be involved in AMS.

RESUMO

Lithium difluoro(oxalate) borate (LiDFOB) contributes actively to cathode-electrolyte interface (CEI) formation, particularly safeguarding high-voltage cathode materials. However, LiNixCozMnyO2-based batteries benefit from the LiDFOB and its derived CEI only with appropriate electrolyte design while a comprehensive understanding of the underlying interfacial mechanisms remains limited, which makes the rational design challenging. By performing ab initio calculations, the CEI evolution on the LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 has been investigated. The findings demonstrate that LiDFOB readily adheres to the cathode via semidissociative configuration, which elevates the Li deintercalation voltage and remains stable in solvent. Electrochemical processes are responsible for the subsequent cleavage of B-F and B-O bonds, while the B-F bond cleavage leading to LiF formation is dominant in the presence of adequate Li+ with a substantial Li intercalation energy. Thus, impregnation is established as an effective method to regulate the conversion channel for efficient CEI formation, which not only safeguards the cathode's structure but also counters electrolyte decomposition. Consequently, in comparison to utilizing LiDFOB as an electrolyte additive, employing LiDFOB impregnation in the NCM811/Li cell yields significantly improved cycling stability for over 2000 h.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This prospective and observational study aimed to identify demographic, physiological and psychological risk factors associated with high-altitude headache (HAH) upon acute high-altitude exposure. METHODS: Eight hundred fifty subjects ascended by plane to 3700 m above Chengdu (500 m) over a period of two hours. Structured Case Report Form (CRF) questionnaires were used to record demographic information, physiological examinations, psychological scale, and symptoms including headache and insomnia a week before ascending and within 24 hours after arrival at 3700 m. Binary logistic regression models were used to analyze the risk factors for HAH. RESULTS: The incidence of HAH was 73.3%. Age (p =0.011), physical labor intensity (PLI) (p =0.044), primary headache history (p <0.001), insomnia (p <0.001), arterial oxygen saturation (SaO2) (p =0.001), heart rate (HR) (p =0.002), the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) (p <0.001), and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) (p <0.001) were significantly different between HAH and non-HAH groups. Logistic regression models identified primary headache history, insomnia, low SaO2, high HR and SAS as independent risk factors for HAH. CONCLUSIONS: Insomnia, primary headache history, low SaO2, high HR, and high SAS score are the risk factors for HAH. Our findings will provide novel avenues for the study, prevention and treatment of HAH.

RESUMO

Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Duch.) productivity is severely hindered by powdery mildew (PM) worldwide. The causative agent of pumpkin PM is Podosphaera xanthii, a biotrophic fungus. Pathogenesis-related protein 1 (PR1) homolog was previously identified from transcriptomic analysis of a PM-resistant pumpkin. Here, we investigated the effects of CmPR1 gene from pumpkin for resistance to PM. Subcellular localization assay revealed that CmPR1 is a cytoplasmic protein in plants. The expression of CmPR1 gene was strongly induced by P. xanthii inoculation at 48 h and exogenous ethylene (ET), jasmonic acid (JA) and NaCl treatments, but repressed by H2O2 and salicylic acid (SA) treatments. Visual disease symptoms, histological observations of fungal growth and host cell death, and accumulation of H2O2 in transgenic tobacco plants indicated that CmPR1 overexpression significantly enhanced the resistance to Golovinomyces cichoracearum compared to wild type plants during PM pathogens infection, possibly due to inducing cell death and H2O2 accumulation near infected sites. The expression of PR1a was significantly induced in transgenic tobacco plants in response to G. cichoracearum, suggesting that CmPR1 overexpression positively modulates the resistance to PM via the SA signaling pathway. These findings indicate that CmPR1 is a defense response gene in C. moschata and can be exploited to develop disease-resistant crop varieties.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of ketamine and alcohol on learning and memory in mice and its possible mechanism. METHODS: Forty mice were divided into 4 groups: normal control group, ketamine group, alcohol group, and alcohol plus ketamine group. Ketamine and alcohol were given by intraperitoneal injection and intragastric administration, respectively, 1 time per day, for 14 days. The ability of learning and memory in mice was tested by the method of step-down and Morris water maze. Acetylcholine (ACh) and 5-hydroxy tryptamine(5-HT) in mice brain tissue were analyzed for the possible mechanism. RESULTS: (1) Step-down: The treatment groups lessened the latency and added wrong times (P < 0.05). The number of errors in the combined treatment group significantly increased comparing with the single drug treatment group (P < 0.05). (2) Morris water-maze: The treatment groups prolonged the latency (P < 0.05), reduced the target quadrant activity time significantly (P < 0.05), and decreased the numbers of crossing the former platform significantly (P < 0.05). (3) Biochemical index determination: The concentrations of ACh and 5-HT in treatment groups decreased significantly (P < 0.05), showed a more decreasement comparing with the single drug treatment group. CONCLUSION: Ketamine has a synergistic effect with alcohol on learning and memory impairment in mice, which may be related to the common inhibitive effect on the ACh and 5-HT.

RESUMO

Aim: Elevated pulmonary artery pressure (ePAP) in response to high-altitude hypoxia is a critical physiopathological factor in the hypoxic adaptation that may lead to high-altitude pulmonary edema in the acute phase or high-altitude pulmonary hypertension in the long term. However, the sea-level predictors of risk factors for altitude-induced ePAP have not been examined. Thus, we aimed to identify the baseline systemic blood predictors of ePAP after acute high-altitude exposure. Materials and Methods: A total of 154 participants were transported to a high altitude 3,700 m from sea level within 2 h. Echocardiography examinations were performed to assess the mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) and hemodynamics at both altitudes. All the individuals underwent blood tests to determine the concentrations of vascular regulatory factors. Univariate and adjusted logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the independent predictors of ePAP and factors related to ePAP. Results: The mPAP increased significantly from sea level to high altitude (19.79 ± 6.53-27.16 ± 7.16 mmHg, p < 0.05). Increased levels of endothelin (ET-1), Ang (1-7), Ang II, and bradykinin were found after high-altitude exposure, while the levels of nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E2 (PEG2), and serotonin decreased sharply (all p-values < 0.05). At high altitude, 52.6% of the subjects exhibited ePAP, and the mPAP was closely correlated with the baseline Ang II level (r = 0.170, p = 0.036) and follow-up levels of NO (r = -0.209, p = 0.009), Ang II (r = 0.246, p = 0.002), and Ang (1-7) (r = -0.222, p = 0.006) and the left atrial inner diameter (LAD, r = 0.270, p < 0.001). Both the baseline and follow-up NO and Ang II levels were significantly different between the ePAP and non-ePAP groups. Finally, we identified the baseline Ang II and NO concentrations as two independent predictors of ePAP (p < 0.05). We also found that two vascular regulatory factors with inverse roles, namely, Ang (1-7) and Ang II, at high altitudes were independently associated with ePAP. Additionally, ET-1, NO, PEG2, and LAD were associated with ePAP. Conclusion: The baseline concentrations of Ang II and NO at sea level are two independent predictors of ePAP after acute high-altitude exposure. Furthermore, Ang (1-7) and Ang II combined with ET-1, NO, PEG2, and LAD at high altitudes may contribute to the development of ePAP.

RESUMO

Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is one of the most common complications associated with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Though numerous risk factors have been founded, other risk factors remain unidentified, particularly in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis with elder age. Soluble Fas (sFas) and its ligand FasL (sFasL) have been reported in chronic renal disease patients; however, they have not been identified in the PH patients of elder hemodialysis patients. We aimed to determine the roles of sFas/sFasL in onset of PH in elder patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis with ESRD. Methods: Altogether, 163 patients aged 68.00 ± 10.51 years with ESRD who undergoing maintenance hemodialysis in a prospective cohort and were followed-up for a median of 5.5 years. They underwent echocardiography examinations, liver function assessments, residual renal function, and serum ion examinations, before and after dialysis. Furthermore, levels of sFas and sFasL at baseline had also been measured. We compared demographic data, echocardiographic parameters, liver function, ions, and residual renal function as well as serum sFas and sFasL between the PH and non-PH groups. These parameters were correlated with systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP) using Spearman's correlation. Moreover, univariate and adjusted logistic regression analyses have also been conducted. Results: The incidence of PH in the elder dialysis patients was 39.1%. PH populations were demonstrated with significantly higher end-diastolic internal diameters of the left atrium, left ventricle, right ventricle (RV), and pulmonary artery, as well as the left ventricular posterior wall thickness (LVWP; all p < 0.05). A higher baseline serum sFas and sFasL levels have also been identified ( p < 0.001). They also showed lower fractional shortening and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF; p < 0.05). Following dialysis, the post-dialysis serum potassium concentration (K+) was significantly higher in the PH group ( p = 0.013). Furthermore, the adjusted regression identified that ratio of sFas/FasL (OR: 1.587, p = 0.004), RV (OR: 1.184, p = 0.014), LVPW (OR: 1.517, p = 0.007), and post-dialysis K+ (OR: 2.717, p = 0.040) was the independent risk factors for PH while LVEF (OR: 0.875, p = 0.040) protects patients from PH. Conclusion: The baseline ratio of sFas/sFasL, RV, LVPW, and post-dialysis K+ was independent risk factors for PH onset, while LVEF was a protective factor for PH.

RESUMO

Background: Social app-assisted education and support may facilitate diabetes self-management. We aim to evaluate the effect of WeChat, a popular social app, on glycemic control in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods: We conducted a parallel-group, open-label, randomized clinical trial that included 160 patients with both CHD and diabetes mellitus from a tertiary hospital in China. The intervention group (n = 80) received educational materials (information on glucose monitoring, drug usage, medication, and lifestyle) and reminders in response to individual blood glucose values via WeChat. The control group (n = 80) received usual care. The primary outcome was a change in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) levels over 3 months. Secondary outcomes included fasting blood glucose (FBG), systolic blood pressure, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol from baseline to 3 months. Analysis was conducted using a linear mixed model. Results: The intervention group had a greater reduction in HbA1C (-0.85 vs. 0.15%, between-group difference: -1.00%; 95% CI -1.31 to -0.69%; p < 0.001) compared with the control group. Change in fasting blood glucose was larger in the intervention group (-1.53 mmol/L; 95% CI -1.90 to -1.17; p < 0.001) and systolic blood pressure (-9.06 mmHg; 95% CI -12.38 to -5.73; p < 0.001), but not LDL (between-group difference, -0.08 mmol/L; 95% CI -0.22 to 0.05; p = 0.227). Conclusion: The combination of social app with education and support resulted in better glycemic control in patients with CHD and DM. These results suggest that education and support interaction via social app may benefit self-management in CHD and DM.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional black phosphorus (BP) nanosheets are potential flame-retardant nano-additives. Herein, the effects of the size of BP nanosheets embedded in epoxy resin (EP) on flame retardancy are studied. BP nanosheets with four different sizes are synthesized from bulk BP by different exfoliation methods including solid ball milling, liquid ball milling, ultrasonic liquid exfoliation, and electrochemical exfoliation (samples are designated as sb-BP, lb-BP, us-BP, and ec-BP, respectively). lb-BP exhibits the best dispersion in the EP matrix, and the lb-BP/EP composite shows the best flame-retardancy properties among the four BP/EP composites. Compared to bare EP, lb-BP/EP shows obvious improvements including the reduction in the heat release peak rate by 34.4%, total heat release by 27.0%, peak of smoke production rate by 69.2%, and total production of carbon monoxide by 50.8%. The mechanistic study reveals that lb-BP serves as a barrier and carbonization catalyst to delay combustion. These results confirm the size dependence of flame-retardancy properties of BP nanosheets and the new knowledge provides insights into the size dependent effects of other two-dimensional materials.

RESUMO

Hybridization of nitric oxide (NO) donors with known anti-cancer agents have been emerged as a strategy to achieve improved therapeutic effect and to overcome chemo-resistance in cancer therapy. In this study, furoxan moiety as an efficient NO donor was introduced to phenstatin, a microtubule-interfering agent (MIA), leading to the design and synthesis of a series of furoxan-based NO-releasing arylphenones derivatives. In biological evaluation, the synthesized compounds showed moderate to potent anti-tumor activities against several human cancer cell lines. Among them, compound 15h showed the most potent activities against both chemo-sensitive and resistant cancer cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 0.008 to 0.021 µM. Further mechanistic studies revealed that 15h worked as a bifunctional agent exhibiting both tubulin polymerized inhibition and NO-releasing activities, resulting in potent anti-angiogenesis, colony formation inhibition, cell cycle arrest and apoptosis induction effects. In the nude mice xenograft model, 15h significantly inhibited the paclitaxel-resistant tumor growth with low toxicity, demonstrating the promising potential for further preclinical evaluation as a therapeutic agent, particularly for the treatment of chemo-resistant cancers.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of ketamine on adrenal pheochromocytoma (PC12) cell proliferation inhibition and induction of apoptosis and its mechanism. METHODS: PC12 cells of rats were models for dopaminergic neuron. PC12 cells were cultured with ketamine at concentrations of 0.9, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8 and 2.1 mmol/L, respectively. The cell viability was measured by MTT method after incubation at 12, 24, 48 and 72h. Hoechst stain was used to observe the morphological changes of apoptosis. PC12 cells cultured after 48 h with different concentrations of ketamine were selected to detect apoptotic rate using flow cytometry and detect the expression of bax and bcl-2 proteins using Western blotting. RESULTS: For different concentrations of ketamine, vitality of PC12 cells significantly decreased with increase of the incubation time. Apoptosis was obviously observed using Hoechst staining. Flow cytometry showed that apoptosis rates significantly increased with increasing ketamine concentrations. CONCLUSION: Ketamine can inhibit the proliferation of PC12 cell by inducing apoptosis of the PC12 cell in a concentrations-dependent manner. The underlying mechanism may be related to promoting the expression of bax and inhibiting the expression of bcl-2 in the cells.

RESUMO

The long-term outcome of gastric cancer (GC) patients remains unsatisfactory despite some recent improvements. Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) is a prognostic biomarker for some solid tumors, however its role in GC remains unknown. In this study, we demonstrated that LIF and LIF receptor (LIFR) are overexpressed in GC tissues and established that a correlation exists between them. LIF and LIFR expression are associated with tumor differentiation, lymphovascular invasion, tumor stage, lymph node metastasis, and pTNM stage, indicating that they may be useful prognostic factors. LIF promoted GC cell proliferation, colony formation, invasion, migration, and tumor growth; it also promoted cell cycle progression and inhibited apoptosis; and knocking out the LIFR gene reversed the effects of LIF. LIF inhibited the activity of the Hippo pathway, resulting in reduced phosphorylation of YAP, increased YAP nuclear translocation, and increased cell proliferation. Finally, silencing YAP mRNA expression suppressed cell proliferation. Overall, the results demonstrate that LIF promotes the malignant biological behavior of GC cells through LIFR-Hippo-YAP signaling. LIF may therefore be a useful biomarker for GC.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors are promising photocatalysts; in order to overcome the relatively low efficiency of single-component 2D photocatalysts, heterostructures are fabricated for effective charge separation. Herein, a 2D heterostructure is synthesized by anchoring nickel nanoparticle-decorated black phosphorus (BP) nanosheets to graphitic carbon nitride (CN) nanosheets (CN/BP@Ni). The CN/BP@Ni heterostructure exhibits an enhanced charge separation due to the tight interfacial interaction and the cascaded electron-transfer channel from CN to BP and then to Ni nanoparticles. Possessing abundant active sites of Ni and P-N coordinate bonds, CN/BP@Ni shows a high visible-light-driven H2 evolution rate of 8.59 mmol·h-1·g-1 with the sacrificial agent EtOH, about 10-fold to that of CN/BP. When applying benzyl alcohol to consume photogenerated holes, CN/BP@Ni enables the selective production of benzaldehyde; therefore, two value-added products are obtained in a single closed redox cycle. This work provides new insights into the development of photocatalysts without non-noble metals.

RESUMO

Phosphorus (P) release from sediment is a key process affecting the effectiveness of eutrophication mitigation. We hypothesized that high nitrate (NO3-) input may have dual effect on sediment P release: reduce the sediment P release by improving the oxidation of sediment or promote P release by stimulating the growth of phytoplankton and increase the decomposition rates and oxygen consumption at the sediment water interface. To test the effect of different NO3- concentrations, we conducted a three-month experiment in 15 cement tanks (1 m3), with five targeted concentrations of NO3-: control, 2 mg L-1, 5 mg L-1, 10 mg L-1, and 15 mg L-1. The results showed that: i) when NO3- was maintained at high levels: NO3-≥5-7 mg L-1 (range of median values), there was no effect of NO3- on net P release from the sediment, likely because the positive effects of NO3- (increasing oxidation) was counteracted by a promotion of phytoplankton growth. ii) after NO3- addition was terminated NO3- dropped sharply to a low level (NO3-≤0.4 mg L-1), followed by a minor P release in the low N treatments but a significant P release in the high N treatments, which likely reflect that the inhibition effect of NO3- on P release decreased, while the promotion effects at high NO3- concentrations continued. The results thus supported our hypotheses of a dual effect on sediment P release and suggest dose-dependent effect of NO3- loading on stimulating P release from the sediment, being clear at high NO3- exceeding 5-7 mg L-1.

RESUMO

Development of efficient catalysts for ammonia production under ambient conditions is a challenge. In this work, edge-rich black phosphorus nanoflakes (eBP NFs) are synthesized for highly efficient photocatalytic nitrogen fixation. The eBP NFs synthesized by a chemical etching exfoliation method have a uniform size and about 90 nm wide and the flake-like structure is enshrouded with crystal-domain edges. Without using any cocatalysts, the eBP NFs catalyze nitrogen fixation at a rate of 2.37 mmol·h-1·g-1 under visible-light irradiation. The photocatalytic process is analyzed by photoelectrochemical and transient absorption measurements, which disclose electron transfer from eBP NFs to N2 for subsequent hydrogenation. Besides the facile and scalable synthesis method, eBP NFs with a high photocatalytic nitrogen fixation efficiency have great potential in ammonia production.

RESUMO

Aim: To determine the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension (PH) and its associated factors among end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients who underwent maintenance dialysis. Methods: A total of 491 patients received echocardiography examinations and underwent pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) assessments. A subgroup of 283 patients were subjected to plasma creatinine (Cr) and blood urea nitrogen concentration (BUN) tests, routine blood examinations and electrolyte analysis. First, we compared the differences in echocardiographic, Cr and BUN, blood routine and electrolyte parameters between PH and non-PH groups. The correlations between PASP and the parameters mentioned above were also analyzed. Furthermore, univariate and adjusted logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the independent associated factors. Results: The incidence of PH among ESRD patients who were treated with maintenance dialysis was 34.6%. Most of the echocardiographic parameters, including end-diastolic internal diameters of the left atrium, left ventricle, right atrium, and pulmonary artery, as well as interventricular septum mobility, left ventricular posterior wall mobility, fractional shortening, stroke volume and left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF), were associated with PH. Furthermore, Mg2+ (p = 0.037) and Cl- (p = 0.043) were significantly associated with PASP. However, after adjustments were made in the regression analysis, only internal diameters of the left atrium, right atrium, and LVEF were independently associated with PH. Conclusion: PH is prevalent, with a relatively high incidence among ESRD patients who undergo maintenance dialysis. The sizes of the left and right atria as well as LVEF were independently associated with PH, but further cohort and basic mechanistic studies are needed to confirm this finding.
