RESUMO

Indocyanine green (ICG) is a fluorescent dye that can be used intraoperatively to assess tissue perfusion, as well as perform leak testing. This study aims to summarize published manuscripts on outcomes of ICG use and reduction of complications compared to traditional leak test and tissue perfusion evaluation. A PubMed search using "ICG and bariatric surgery," "ICG and gastric sleeve," "ICG and gastric bypass," and "ICG and revisional bariatric surgery" was performed. The proportion of patients who underwent an intraoperative decision change due to ICG was 3.8% (95% CI: 2.0 to 7.2%). ICG fluorescent imaging in bariatric surgery is a valuable tool, and further studies are needed to confirm its utility for routine use in both standard or complex cases (PROSPERO #418126).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Insufficient perfusion to anastomoses in colorectal surgery is known to lead to complications. This study aims to evaluate whether routine use of fluorescence angiography (FA) alters the incidence of anastomotic leaks after colorectal surgery. METHODS: This was a retrospective study of 554 colorectal resections with and without the use of intraoperative fluorescence angiography. Anastomotic leak rates and whether angiography altered surgical management were the main outcomes measured. RESULTS: The anastomotic leak rate was found to be 1.3% both with and without use of FA (p > 0.05). Significantly more alterations were made to planned anastomotic site in FA group (n = 13, 5.6%) as compared to the group prior to use of FA in whom no alterations were made (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: No significant difference was found in anastomotic leak rates between the two groups studied. Routine use of fluorescence angiography significantly altered intra-operative decision-making without discernible change in clinical outcome.

RESUMO

Accessibility guidance for the development of web-apps for users with cognitive disabilities is sorely lacking despite the availability of extensive web content accessibility standards. This paper examines additional requirements suggested by specialists in the field, in order to further aid developers looking to create accessible interactive web experiences for all.

RESUMO

This paper presents a gap analysis between crowdsourced functional accessibility evaluations of ebooks conducted by non-experts and the technical accessibility standards employed by developers. It also illustrates how combining these approaches can provide more appropriate information for a wider group of users with print impairments.

RESUMO

This paper aims to highlight some of the issues that arise with the uptake of assistive technology as found in the literature across four different domains: Telehealth; Telecare; Augmentative and Alternative Communication; and Education. The authors were not looking so much at service delivery models as user centred experiences and key words that were used to describe outcomes. The results showed remarkable similarities in the concerns of patients, families, users and other stakeholders. However, different terminologies across the fields highlighted the gulf between the fields, with professional 'silo-ing' of expertise occurring. There is a necessity for increased collaboration that could allow for knowledge sharing and enhanced assessment, uptake and continued use of assistive technologies for all potential users.
