RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Information regarding the status of surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis (SAP) in Japanese hospitals is lacking. This study aimed to explore the status of SAP prescriptions for surgeries and adherence to Japanese SAP guidelines. METHODS: From February to July 2020, a 1-day multicentre point prevalent survey was conducted at 27 hospitals in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Patients prescribed SAP were included in this study. The appropriateness of the SAP was evaluated based on the guidelines for selection of antimicrobials and their duration. Surgery was defined as appropriate when all the items were appropriate. RESULTS: A total of 728 patients (7.1 %; 728/10,199) received antimicrobials for SAP. Among them, 557 patients (76.5 %, 557/728) underwent the surgeries described in the guidelines. The overall appropriateness of all surgeries was 33.9 % (189/557). The appropriate selection of antimicrobial before/during and after surgery and their durations were 67.5 % (376/557), 67.5 % (376/557), and 43.3 % (241/557), respectively. The overall appropriateness ranged from 0 % (0/37, oral and maxillofacial surgery) to 58.7 % (88/150, orthopaedic surgery) and 27.7 % (36/130, community hospitals with 400-599 beds) to 47.2 % (17/36, specific hospitals). Cefazolin was the most prevalent antimicrobial prescribed before/during (55.5 %, 299/539), and after (45.1 %, 249/552) surgery. In total, 101 oral antimicrobials were prescribed postoperatively. CONCLUSIONS: SAP adherence by specific surgical fields and hospitals was shown in this study. Intensive intervention and repeated surveillance are necessary to improve SAP prescriptions in Japanese hospitals.

RESUMO

Chronic lung diseases (CLD), including interstitial lung disease (ILD) and airway diseases (ADs), are common complications of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-citrullinated peptide antibodies are reported to be associated with CLD in RA patients. The presence of anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA5) antibodies (Abs) is associated with clinically amyopathic dermatomyositis developing into rapidly progressive ILD. However, few studies on anti-MDA5 Abs in RA have been published. Here, we analyzed the association of anti-MDA5 Abs with CLD complications in RA. Anti-MDA5 Abs were quantified in sera from RA patients with or without CLD. Anti-MDA5 Ab levels were higher in RA patients with ADs than without (mean ± SDM, 4.4 ± 2.4 vs. 4.0 ± 4.2, p = 0.0001). AUC values of anti-MDA5 Ab and RF ROC curves were similar in RA patients with or without CLD (0.578, 95%CI 0.530-0.627 and 0.579, 95%CI 0.530-0.627, respectively, p = 0.9411). Multiple logistic regression analysis of anti-MDA5 Abs and clinical characteristics yielded an MDA5-index with a higher AUC value than anti-MDA5 Ab alone (0.694, 95%CI 0.648-0.740, p = 5.08 × 10-5). Anti-MDA5 Abs were associated with ADs in RA patients and could represent a biomarker for CLD, similar to RF. The involvement of anti-MDA5 Abs in the pathogenesis of ADs in RA is proposed.

RESUMO

Metal chalcogenides - because of their excellent optical and electrical properties - are important semiconductor materials for optical devices, such as solar cells, sensors, and photocatalysts. The challenges associated with metal chalcogenides are the complexity of the conventional synthesis methods and the stringent synthesis conditions. In this study, the synthesis conditions were simplified in a solvent-free synthesis method using cadmium precursor, thiourea and selenium to synthesize metal chalcogenides, such as CdS and CdSe, which have particularly suitable band gaps for the optical devices. CdSx Se1-x solid solution was successfully synthesized under molten thiourea as the reactive reaction medium at relatively low temperatures, even at 180 °C, with residual melamine derivatives in the solid phase. The luminescence properties of CdSx Se1-x and the products in the gas and solid phases were investigated. Optimization of the synthesis conditions for solid solutions of CdSx Se1-x and the role of organic compounds in the formation of metal chalcogenides are discussed.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is often complicated with chronic lung diseases (CLD), including interstitial lung disease (ILD) and airway disease, which occur as extra-articular manifestations. CLD in RA have been associated with the production of rheumatoid factor (RF), anti-citrullinated peptide antibody (ACPA), or anti-carbamylated protein (CarP) antibody. However, few validation studies have been performed thus far. In the present study, we investigated the association of RF, ACPA, and anti-CarP antibodies with RA complicated with CLD. METHODS: Sera from RA patients with or without CLD were collected. The levels of serum RF, RF immunoglobulin A (IgA), ACPA IgG, ACPA IgA, and ACPA secretory component (SC) were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: The comparison of RA patients with and without CLD showed that RF IgA was associated with ILD (mean ± standard deviation: 206.6 ± 400.5 vs. 95.0 ± 523.1 U/ml, respectively, P = 1.13 × 10- 8), particularly usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) (263.5 ± 502.0 U/ml, P = 1.00 × 10- 7). ACPA SC was associated with RA complicated with ILD (mean ± standard deviation: 8.6 ± 25.1 vs. 2.3 ± 3.4 U/ml, respectively, P = 0.0003), particularly nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) (10.7 ± 31.5 U/ml, P = 0.0017). Anti-CarP antibodies were associated with RA complicated with ILD (0.042 ± 0.285 vs. 0.003 ± 0.011 U/ml, respectively, P = 1.04X10- 11). CONCLUSION: RF IgA and ACPA SC in RA were associated with UIP and NSIP, respectively, suggesting different specificities in patients with RA. Anti-CarP antibodies were associated with ILD in RA. These results may help elucidate the different pathogeneses of UIP and NSIP in RA.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Anti-aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase (anti-ARS) antibodies are useful for identifying a clinical subset of patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs). Anti-OJ antibodies, which recognize multi-enzyme synthetase complexes including isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase (IARS) and lysyl-tRNA synthetase (KARS), are among the anti-ARS antibodies. Although testing antibodies to other ARSs have been used clinically, no validated immunoassays for detecting anti-OJ antibodies are available. We aimed to establish an anti-OJ ELISA. METHODS: Serum samples were collected from 279 patients with IIMs and 22 patients with idiopathic interstitial pneumonia. Sixty-four of the samples that had been confirmed to be negative for anti-OJ by standard immunoprecipitation were used as the negative control, and 12 anti-OJ-positive reference sera were used as the positive control. Antibodies to IARS and KARS were assayed by ELISA using biotinylated recombinant proteins generated by in vitro transcription/translation. RESULTS: The anti-OJ-positive sera strongly reacted with the KARS and IARS recombinant proteins in ELISA. Although all 12 reference sera were positive in the anti-KARS ELISA, 4 of the 64 anti-OJ-negative sera were also weakly positive. The sensitivity and the specificity were 100% and 93.8%, respectively. Since our anti-KARS ELISA performed well, showing a high agreement with the results for immunoprecipitation (Cohen's κ > 0.8), the remaining 237 samples were also tested. Thirteen anti-KARS-positive sera were newly found by ELISA, all of which were anti-OJ positive by immunoprecipitation. CONCLUSION: Immunoassays for detecting anti-OJ antibodies using KARS and IARS recombinant proteins were developed. Our ELISAs performed well, with very high agreement of the results by immunoprecipitation and can be applied to the first reliable, easy-to-use measurement assays for anti-OJ antibodies.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Susceptibility genes that can account for characteristic features of SSc such as fibrosis, vasculopathy and autoimmunity remain to be determined. In mice, deficiency of Friend leukaemia integration 1 transcription factor (Fli1) causes SSc-like disease with these features. The human FLI1 gene contains (GA)n microsatellite, which has been shown to be associated with expression level. Because microsatellite polymorphisms are difficult to capture by genome-wide association studies, we directly genotyped FLI1 (GA)n microsatellite and examined its association with SSc. METHODS: Genomic DNA from 639 Japanese SSc patients and 851 healthy controls was genotyped for (GA)n microsatellite using the fragment assay. The cut-off repeat number for susceptibility to SSc was determined by receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analysis. Association with susceptibility and clinical characteristics was examined using logistic regression analysis. FLI1 mRNA levels were determined using quantitative RT-PCR. RESULTS: Based on the ROC analysis, (GA)n alleles with ≥22 repeats were collectively defined as L alleles and alleles with ≤21 repeats as S alleles. (GA)n L alleles were significantly associated with susceptibility to SSc (P = 5.0e-04, odds ratio 1.34, additive model). Significant association was observed both in diffuse cutaneous and limited cutaneous SSc. Among the SSc, (GA)n L alleles were significantly enriched in the patients with a modified Rodnan total skin thickness score ≥10 compared with those with a score <10. FLI1 mRNA levels were significantly decreased in healthy controls carrying (GA)n L alleles as compared with non-carriers. CONCLUSION: Extended repeat alleles of FLI1 (GA)n microsatellite may be associated with lower FLI1 mRNA levels and susceptibility to human SSc.

RESUMO

Objective: The human leukocyte antigen (HLA) is the strongest genetic risk factor for idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM), and different HLA alleles have been reported to be associated with IIM susceptibility among different ethnic groups. In this study, we have investigated HLA alleles associated with IIM in Japanese patients. Methods: Genotyping of HLA-DRB1 and DPB1 were performed in 252 Japanese IIM patients (166 dermatomyositis [DM] and 86 polymyositis [PM] patients) and the association was analyzed with comparison to controls (n = 1026 for DRB1 and n = 413 for DPB1).Results: DRB1*08:03 was associated with IIM (p = 1.60 × 10-5, pc = .0005, odds ratio [OR] 2.11, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.52-2.92) and DM (p = .0004, pc = .0128, OR 2.06, 95%CI 1.40-3.02). DPB1*05:01 was also associated with IIM (p = .0001, pc = .0021, OR 1.96, 95%CI 1.38-2.77) and DM (p = .0005, pc = .0075, OR 2.05, 95%CI 1.37-3.08). DRB1*09:01 (p = .0012, pc = .0368, OR 0.35, 95% CI 0.18-0.69) and DPB1*04:01(p = .0004, pc = .0057, OR 0.05, 95% CI 0.00-0.85) were protectively associated with PM. Two locus analyses suggested that DRB1*09:01 and DPB1*04:01 were independently associated with PM.Conclusion: Protective associations of HLA were detected in Japanese PM patients.

RESUMO

Factors, including crystallinity, morphology, size, preferential orientation, growth, composition, porosity, surface area, etc., can directly influence the optical, charge-separation, charge-transfer and water oxidation and reduction properties of particle-based photocatalysts. Therefore, these factors must be considered when designing high-performance particle-based photocatalysts for solar water splitting. Here, a flux growth method was applied to alter the morphology and size of Ba5Ta4O15 precursor oxide crystals using BaCl2, KCl, RbCl, CsCl, KCl + BaCl2 and K2SO4 at different solute concentrations, and the impact of nitridation with and without KCl flux was studied. Specifically, the effects of altered morphology and size on the visible light-induced water oxidation activity and photoelectrochemical performance of the BaTaO2N crystal structures were investigated. Upon nitridation, the samples became porous due to the lattice shrinkage caused by the replacement of 3 O2- with 2 N3- in the anionic network. The BaTaO2N crystal structures obtained by nitridation without KCl flux show higher surface areas than do their counterparts prepared by nitridation with KCl flux because of the formation of porous networks. All of the samples exhibited a high anodic photocurrent upon nitridation without KCl flux compared with those of the samples obtained by nitridation with KCl flux. These findings demonstrate that it is important to specifically engineer photocatalytic crystals to reach their maximum potential in solar water splitting.

RESUMO

Photoelectrochemical water splitting is regarded as a promising approach to the production of hydrogen, and the development of efficient photoelectrodes is one aspect of realizing practical systems. In this work, transparent Ta3 N5 photoanodes were fabricated on n-type GaN/sapphire substrates to promote O2 evolution in tandem with a photocathode, to realize overall water splitting. Following the incorporation of an underlying GaN layer, a photocurrent of 6.3 mA cm-2 was achieved at 1.23 V vs. a reversible hydrogen electrode. The transparency of Ta3 N5 to wavelengths longer than 600 nm allowed incoming solar light to be transmitted to a CuInSe2 (CIS), which absorbs up to 1100 nm. A stand-alone tandem cell with a serially-connected dual-CIS unit terminated with a Pt/Ni electrode was thus constructed for H2 evolution. This tandem cell exhibited a solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion efficiency greater than 7 % at the initial stage of the reaction.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Transcription intermediary factor 1γ (ΤΙF1γ) protein is known as a tumour suppressor that promotes cellular differentiation. Autoantibodies to ΤΙF1γ have a strong clinical association with cancers associated with dermatomyositis (DM). This study aims to identify the clinical characteristics of cancers in anti-ΤΙF1γ antibody-positive adult patients with DM. METHODS: This retrospective analysis covered 160 adult DM patients who visited Nagoya University Hospital or collaborating medical centres between 2003 and 2016. Anti-TIF1γ antibody and other myositis-specific autoantibodies were detected by ELISA. Based on a review of medical charts, the cancers were staged according to the TNM Classification of Malignant Tumours of the Union for International Cancer Control and were divided into the two groups of "advanced" or "non-advanced" according to the stage classification. RESULTS: Forty-one of the 160 (26%) patients had cancer. The incidence was significantly higher in the anti-TIF1γ-positive patients than in the anti-TIF1γ-negative patients (23/34=68% vs. 18/126=14%, p<1x10-6). Anti-TIF1γ-positive patients with cancer were found more frequently in the "advanced" group than in the "non-advanced" group (21/23=91% vs. 9/18=50%, p<0.0046). The intervals between DM diagnosis and cancer diagnosis were significantly shorter in the anti-TIF1γ-positive patients than in the anti-TIF1γ-negative patients (p=0.047). CONCLUSIONS: Not only did anti-TIF1γ antibodies correlate strongly with malignancy in DM patients, but cancers were also significantly more advanced in anti-TIF1γ-positive DM patients than in anti-TIF1γ-negative patients. Cancers in such cases were very frequently found close to the time of the DM diagnosis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine anxiety and depression experienced by patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) using EuroQoL 5-Dimensional Descriptive System (EQ-5D) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scores. METHODS: We analyzed 1005 Japanese patients with RA. Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was performed to evaluate the independent influence of variables on EQ-5D and HADS scores. Pearson correlation coefficients were also calculated to explore relationships between variables. RESULTS: The mean EQ-5D score was 0.74 for all patients (mean age, 63.2 years; mean disease duration, 13.6 years; mean Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index [HAQ-DI], 0.78; mean HADS total [HADS-T] score, 10.3; mean disease activity score assessed by 28 joints based on CRP [DAS28-CRP], 2.8). The EQ-5D score was strongly correlated with HAQ-DI and was moderately correlated with age, Steinbrocker functional class, HADS-T score, tender joint count assessed by 28 joints, pain on a visual analog scale (pain-VAS), patient's global assessment of disease activity (general-VAS), and DAS28-CRP. The HADS-T score was moderately correlated with HAQ-DI, pain-VAS, general-VAS, and DAS28-CRP. Factors that influenced the EQ-5D score included HAQ-DI (ß = -0.533), pain-VAS (ß = -0.128), HADS-T score (ß = -0.142), DAS28-CRP (ß = -0.187), and prednisolone use (ß = -0.056). Factors that influenced the HADS score included HAQ-DI (ß = 0.348), general-VAS (ß = 0.145), disease duration (ß = 0.094), and worklessness (ß = 0.083). CONCLUSIONS: The HADS score is an independent factor associated with EQ-5D in patients with RA. Our findings suggest that the assessment of anxiety and depression is essential in achieving better quality of life for patients with RA.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To identify the determinant of patients' perspectives of quality of life (QOL) and working status out of analysis-derived components underlying a set of assessment measures of the status of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). METHODS: From the NinJa database in Japan (2012-2014), 1455 RA patients with DAS28 > 3.2 were recruited. Components explaining RA status were derived from principal component analysis of 15 assessment measures. Multivariate regression was used to examine the relative contribution of each identified component to the EuroQOL-5 Dimension Questionnaire score and working status. RESULTS: Among the identified components (patient symptoms, physical disability, evaluated symptoms, patient distress, inflammatory marker, and serological marker), patient distress showed highest contribution to EuroQOL for both male (44.6%) and female patients (39.3%). Physical disability was associated with significantly less participation in paid work in male (odds ratio [OR]; 0.63) and both household and paid work in female (OR; 0.82 and 0.54, respectively), though patient distress showed the strongest association with less participation in both household and paid work in female (OR; 0.64 and 0.45, respectively). CONCLUSION: The approach to latent patient distress using psychological screening tools, concurrently with the treatment to control the activity of arthritis, can be help to improve health-related QOL (HRQOL) including work participation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) pulmonary disease is occasionally associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), influencing the therapeutic strategy of RA. Since chronic lung diseases are frequently associated with RA, the diagnosis of NTM pulmonary disease is quite difficult in RA patients. Recently, a serological diagnostic test detecting serum immunoglobulin A against the glycopeptidolipid (GPL) core antigen was developed. We investigated the serum levels of anti-GPL antibodies in RA patients to determine the usefulness for detecting NTM pulmonary disease. METHODS: Anti-GPL antibodies were detected in the sera from RA patients with or without NTM pulmonary disease. RESULTS: The positivity of anti-GPL antibodies in RA patients with NTM pulmonary disease was higher than in RA without (p = 1.76 × 10-14, odds ratio 70.29, 95% confidence interval [CI] 22.28-221.83). Anti-GPL Ab titers were increased in RA with NTM pulmonary disease (mean titer ± standard deviation [U/ml], RA with NTM pulmonary disease: 4.1 ± 7.0, RA without NTM pulmonary disease: 0.4 ± 1.6, p = 1.51 × 10-10). The area under the curve (AUC) value of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for anti-GPL antibodies was 0.917 (95%CI 0.860-0.974, p = 3.32 × 10-47). CONCLUSIONS: Serum anti-GPL antibodies are useful for detecting NTM pulmonary disease in RA patients.

RESUMO

Development of sunlight-driven water splitting systems with high efficiency, scalability, and cost-competitiveness is a central issue for mass production of solar hydrogen as a renewable and storable energy carrier. Photocatalyst sheets comprising a particulate hydrogen evolution photocatalyst (HEP) and an oxygen evolution photocatalyst (OEP) embedded in a conductive thin film can realize efficient and scalable solar hydrogen production using Z-scheme water splitting. However, the use of expensive precious metal thin films that also promote reverse reactions is a major obstacle to developing a cost-effective process at ambient pressure. In this study, we present a standalone particulate photocatalyst sheet based on an earth-abundant, relatively inert, and conductive carbon film for efficient Z-scheme water splitting at ambient pressure. A SrTiO3:La,Rh/C/BiVO4:Mo sheet is shown to achieve unassisted pure-water (pH 6.8) splitting with a solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion efficiency (STH) of 1.2% at 331 K and 10 kPa, while retaining 80% of this efficiency at 91 kPa. The STH value of 1.0% is the highest among Z-scheme pure water splitting operating at ambient pressure. The working mechanism of the photocatalyst sheet is discussed on the basis of band diagram simulation. In addition, the photocatalyst sheet split pure water more efficiently than conventional powder suspension systems and photoelectrochemical parallel cells because H+ and OH- concentration overpotentials and an IR drop between the HEP and OEP were effectively suppressed. The proposed carbon-based photocatalyst sheet, which can be used at ambient pressure, is an important alternative to (photo)electrochemical systems for practical solar hydrogen production.

RESUMO

Water splitting using semiconductor photocatalysts has been attracting growing interest as a means of solar energy based conversion of water to hydrogen, a clean and renewable fuel. Z-scheme photocatalytic water splitting based on the two-step excitation of an oxygen evolution photocatalyst (OEP) and a hydrogen evolution photocatalyst (HEP) is a promising approach toward the utilisation of visible light. In particular, a photocatalyst sheet system consisting of HEP and OEP particles embedded in a conductive layer has been recently proposed as a new means of obtaining efficient and scalable redox mediator-free Z-scheme solar water splitting. In this paper, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the photocatalyst sheet approach compared to conventional photocatalyst powder suspension and photoelectrochemical systems through an examination of the water splitting activity of Z-scheme systems based on SrTiO3:La,Rh as the HEP and BiVO4:Mo as the OEP. This photocatalyst sheet was found to split pure water much more efficiently than the powder suspension and photoelectrochemical systems, because the underlying metal layer efficiently transfers electrons from the OEP to the HEP. The photocatalyst sheet also outperformed a photoelectrochemical parallel cell during pure water splitting. The effects of H+/OH- concentration overpotentials and of the IR drop are reduced in the case of the photocatalyst sheet compared to photoelectrochemical systems, because the HEP and OEP are situated in close proximity to one another. Therefore, the photocatalyst sheet design is well-suited to efficient large-scale applications. Nevertheless, it is also noted that the photocatalytic activity of these sheets drops markedly with increasing background pressure because of reverse reactions involving molecular oxygen under illumination as well as delays in gas bubble desorption. It is shown that appropriate surface modifications allow the photocatalyst sheet to maintain its water splitting activity at elevated pressure. Accordingly, we conclude that the photocatalyst sheet system is a viable option for the realisation of efficient solar fuel production.

RESUMO

Ta3 N5 is a very promising photocatalyst for solar water splitting because of its wide spectrum solar energy utilization up to 600 nm and suitable energy band position straddling the water splitting redox reactions. However, its development has long been impeded by poor compatibility with electrolytes. Herein, we demonstrate a simple sputtering-nitridation process to fabricate high-performance Ta3 N5 film photoanodes owing to successful synthesis of the vital TaOδ precursors. An effective GaN coating strategy is developed to remarkably stabilize Ta3 N5 by forming a crystalline nitride-on-nitride structure with an improved nitride/electrolyte interface. A stable, high photocurrent density of 8 mA cm-2 was obtained with a CoPi/GaN/Ta3 N5 photoanode at 1.2 VRHE under simulated sunlight, with O2 and H2 generated at a Faraday efficiency of unity over 12 h. Our vapor-phase deposition method can be used to fabricate high-performance (oxy)nitrides for practical photoelectrochemical applications.

RESUMO

An improved variation of highly active/durable O2 -evolving LaTiO2 N powder-based photoelectrode has been fabricated by pre-cleaning the powder with mild polysulfonic acid and by homogeneous deposition of CoOx co-catalyst aided by microwave annealing. The treatment in aqueous solution of poly(4-styrene sulfonic acid) results in removal of surface LaTiO2 N layers, forming fine pores in the crystallites. The CoOx co-catalyst by microwave deposition in Co(NH3 )6 Cl3 /ethylene glycol homogeneously covers the particle surface. The LaTiO2 N powder is fabricated into particle-transferred electrodes on Ti thin film supported on solid substrate. The modified LaTiO2 N grains on the electrode serve as a highly active O2 -evolving photoanode achieving 8.9 mA cm-2 of the photocurrent density at 1.23 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) in 0.1 m NaOH (pH 13) under solar-simulator irradiation Airmass 1.5 Global (AM 1.5G). The activity has been much improved, compared with conventional LaTiO2 N treated in mineral acid or with CoOx deposited by impregnation. The new electrode also exhibits better durability in fixed-potential chronoamperometric tests under AM 1.5G irradiation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Chronic lung diseases including interstitial lung disease and airway disease (AD) occur in RA patients. Interstitial lung disease and AD in RA are extra-articular manifestations that influence the prognosis quoad vitam of RA. Studies on associations of HLA alleles with RA have been carried out, and shared epitopes of several alleles are reported to be associated with RA susceptibility. Few association studies in RA subpopulations with chronic lung diseases have been conducted. The aim of the study was to identify HLA alleles predisposing to RA phenotypes including the presence of AD. METHODS: Associations of HLA-DRB1 and DQB1 alleles with chronic lung diseases in RA were analysed. RESULTS: A positive association was found between the DR4 serological group and resistance to usual interstitial pneumonia [P = 0.0250, odds ratio (OR) 0.62, 95% CI: 0.41, 0.93]. The DR2 serological group was associated with susceptibility to usual interstitial pneumonia (P = 0.0036, OR = 1.86, 95% CI: 1.23, 2.81). An association was found for shared epitopes alleles with bronchiolitic AD (P = 0.0040, OR = 2.06, 95% CI: 1.24, 3.41). DQB1*03:01 was associated with bronchiectatic AD (P = 0.0021, corrected P-value (Pc) = 0.0315, OR = 1.99, 95% CI: 1.30, 3.06), as well as with emphysema (P = 0.0007, Pc = 0.0104, OR = 2.43, 95% CI: 1.49, 3.95). In combined analysis, a predisposing association of DQB1*03:01 (P = 1.94 ×10(-5), Pc = 0.0003, OR = 2.16, 95% CI: 1.53, 3.06) and a negative association of DQB1*03:02 (P = 0.0008, Pc = 0.0117, OR = 0.33, 95% CI: 0.17, 0.67) with bronchiectatic AD or emphysema were observed in RA. CONCLUSION: The present study identified an association of HLA-DQB1*03:01 with predisposition to, and DQB1*03:02 with resistance to, bronchiectatic AD or emphysema in RA.

RESUMO

The novel oxysulfides La2Ta2ZrS2O8 (LTZSO), La2Ta2TiS2O8 (LTTSO), and La2Nb2TiS2O8 (LNTSO) were synthesized, and their crystal structures, electronic structures, and photocatalytic activities for water splitting under visible light were investigated. Density functional theory calculations showed that these compounds are direct-band-gap semiconductors. Close to the conduction band minimum, the main contribution to the band structure comes from the d orbitals of Zr or Ti ions, while the region near the valence band maximum is associated with the 3p orbitals of S ions. The absorption-edge wavelength was determined to be 540 nm for LTZSO and 700 nm for LTTSO and LNTSO. An analysis of the crystal structure using synchrotron X-ray diffraction revealed that these compounds contained antisite defects at transition metal ion sites, and these were considered to be the origin of the broad absorption at wavelengths longer than that corresponding to band-gap excitation. LTZSO was revealed to be active in the oxygen evolution reaction from aqueous solution containing a sacrificial electron acceptor under visible-light illumination. This result was supported by the band alignment and flat-band potential determined by photoelectron spectroscopy and Mott-Schottky plots.

RESUMO

A photoanode of particulate BaTaO2N fabricated by the particle transfer method and modified with a Co cocatalyst generated a photocurrent of 4.2 mA cm(-2) at 1.2 V(RHE) in the photoelectrochemical water oxidation reaction under simulated sunlight (AM1.5G). The half-cell solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency (HC-STH) of the photoanode reached 0.7% at 1.0 V(RHE), which was an order of magnitude higher than the previously reported photoanode made from the same material. The faradaic efficiency for oxygen evolution from water was virtually 100% during the reaction for 6 h, attesting to the robustness of the oxynitride.
