RESUMO

Heavy-metal ATPases (HMAs) play a vital role in plants, helping to transport heavy metal ions across cell membranes.However, insufficient data exists concerning HMAs genes within the Arecaceae family.In this study, 12 AcHMA genes were identified within the genome of Areca catechu, grouped into two main clusters based on their phylogenetic relationships.Genomic distribution analysis reveals that the AcHMA genes were unevenly distributed across six chromosomes. We further analyzed their physicochemical properties, collinearity, and gene structure.Furthermore, RNA-seq data analysis exhibited varied expressions in different tissues of A. catechu and found that AcHMA1, AcHMA2, and AcHMA7 were highly expressed in roots, leaves, pericarp, and male/female flowers. A total of six AcHMA candidate genes were selected based on gene expression patterns, and their expression in the roots and leaves was determined using RT-qPCR under heavy metal stress. Results showed that the expression levels of AcHMA1 and AcHMA3 genes were significantly up-regulated under Cd2 + and Zn2 + stress. Similarly, in response to Cu2+, the AcHMA5 and AcHMA8 revealed the highest expression in roots and leaves, respectively. In conclusion, this study will offer a foundation for exploring the role of the HMAs gene family in dealing with heavy metal stress conditions in A. catechu.

The principal methods to maintain soil fertility in Sahel soils are largely allowing fields to go fallow and manure addition. These methods are not currently sufficient to improve soil fertility. To promote biological amendments, we aimed to understand the plant-growth promoting traits of various soil microbial isolates. The soils collected in different areas in Senegal exhibited a similar eDNA profile of bacteria; the dominant microbes were Firmicutes, followed by Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria. Of 17 isolates identified and tested, the vast majority solubilized rock phosphate and a large number grew on culture medium containing 6% salt, but very few degraded starches or hydrolysed carboxymethyl cellulose or produced siderophores. Upon single inoculation, Peribacillus asahii RC16 and Dietzia cinnamea 55 significantly increased pearl millet growth and yield parameters. For cowpea, plant shoot length was significantly increased by Pseudarthrobacter phenanthrenivorans MKAG7 co-inoculated with Bradyrhizobium elkanii 20TpCR5, and nearly all rhizobacteria tested significantly improved cowpea dry weight and pod weight. Additionally, the double inoculation of Dietzia cinnamea 55 and MKAG7 significantly increased shoot length, dry weight, and seed head weight of pearl millet. These isolates are promising inoculants because they are ecologically-friendly, cost-effective, sustainable, and have fewer negative effects on the soil and its inhabitants.

Despite growing research linking childhood traumatic brain injury (TBI) with reduced wellbeing, self-esteem, and psycho-social health, very few studies have examined self-esteem and its correlates in young adult survivors of childhood TBI. This very-long-term follow-up study evaluated self-esteem in 29 young adults with a history of childhood TBI (M time since injury = 13.84 years; SD = 0.74), and 10 typically developing controls (TDCs). All participants were originally recruited into a larger, longitudinal case-control study between 2007 and 2010. In the current follow-up study, both groups completed well-validated measures of self-esteem and mental health in young adulthood. Although group means for self-esteem did not significantly differ between TBI and TDC groups, a higher proportion of TBI participants rated their self-esteem in the clinical range (TBI group = 17%; TDC group = 0%). While self-esteem was not significantly associated with injury or pre-injury child or family characteristics, lower self-esteem was significantly correlated with greater concurrent feelings of loneliness (p = 0.007) and higher concurrent mood symptoms (p < 0.001).Our results suggest that social isolation and low mood may represent meaningful targets for psycho-social interventions to address poor self-worth in young adults with a history of childhood TBI.

The primary aim of this study was to examine the impact of xylooligosaccharide (XOS) in rice protein concentrate (RPC) based diets on the growth performance, body composition, digestive enzymes, intestinal morphology and blood biochemistry of Labeo rohita fingerlings. Four different XOS levels (0%, 0.5%, 1% and 2%) were used at each RPC (75% and 100%) level. Twenty-five fish per tank with an average initial weight of 25 ± 0.05 g were randomly assigned (Randomised complete block design) to each of the 8 groups in triplicate aquaria (36 × 16 × 12″) and then fed with respective diets @ 3% body weight for 90 days. The results showed significant improvements in growth performance, such as increased weight gain %, specific growth rate, and protein efficiency ratio and improved feed conversion ratio in 1% XOS supplemented diet at 75% RPC. A significant decrease in serum alkaline phosphatase activity (ALP) and plasma melanodialdehyde (MDA) were observed at 1% XOS level in 75% RPC based diets, respectively. Meanwhile, the lowest total cholesterol and highest lysozyme activity were observed in 1% XOS supplemented diet at 75% RPC levels. Moreover, the serum (alanine aminotransferase and aspartate transaminase) and plasma (superoxide dismutase, triglyceride, high density and low density lipoprotein) activities showed nonsignificant effects among the treatments. Furthermore, the digestive enzymes (protease & lipase) and intestinal morphology were significantly influenced at 1% XOS in the 75% RPC-based diet. Polynomial regression analysis showed that 1.25% XOS is the optimum requirement for the growth of rohu fingerlings when fed at 75% RPC based diets. Overall, it was concluded that the 75% RPC diet was efficiently replaced by fishmeal along with 1% XOS addition in L. rohita fingerlings without any negative effect on growth performance and intestinal health.

The current study was performed to investigate the impact of different temperatures and protein levels on the growth performance, proximate composition and digestive and hepatic enzyme activities of Labeo rohita fingerlings. For this purpose, healthy fingerlings (average initial weight of 6.40 ± 0.02 g) were acclimatized for 15 days, then reared at three temperatures (25°C, 30°C and 35°C) and fed three levels of crude protein (25%, 30% and 35% crude protein (CP)) twice daily until satiation for 60 days. The results of the study revealed that the highest growth performance was observed in fish fed 35% protein and reared at 30°C. Similarly, fish reared at 35°C and 25°C water temperature showed comparatively better growth performance in fish fed with 35% protein. Furthermore, a significant enhancement in feed intake was observed with increasing culture temperature and increasing CP levels, but at 25°C, increasing CP levels significantly decreased the feed intake. Sligh variations were also observed in proximate composition in terms of moisture, CP, crude fat (CF) and ash contents in fish fed with different CP levels and reared at different temperatures. The hepatosomatic index and viscerosomatic index decreased significantly with increasing levels of protein and temperature. Amylase activities were significantly reduced with increasing culture temperature at each protein level. Increasing culture temperature did not affected the lipase activities. However, lipase activities were enhanced with increasing CP levels at 25°C and activities decreased with increasing CP levels at 30-35°C. Protease activity was enhanced with increasing temperature and CP levels. Significant increases were also observed in serum total proteins and liver functioning enzymes such as alkaline phosphatase, alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase in response to increased temperature, and protein had a reciprocal effect. It is concluded that increasing the CP levels increased the growth performance independent of temperature. However, similar growth performance at 30 CP (30°C) and 35 CP (35°C) indicates that L. rohita requires more protein at higher temperature for optimum growth.

Natural herbs are excellent alternatives to synthetic compounds to enhance the growth performance and health status of fish. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of black cardamom (Amomum subulatum) extract (BCE) as an herbal supplement in improving the growth, antioxidant status, haematology, and serum biochemistry of Catla catla. The acclimatized fish (N = 900; average initial weight = 14.44 ± 0.33 g) were allocated into five groups (60 fish/group in triplicate) in hapas (4 × 2 × 2.5 ft) and provided with feed containing 0 (control), 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 g/kg BCE for 90 days before being subjected to 8 days of crowding stress. After 90 days, significantly higher feed utilization and growth were observed in all BCE-fed treatments compared to the control; however, the maximum values of these parameters were noted in the 2 g/kg BCE-fed treatment. Moreover, the BCE-fed groups exhibited a significant increase in antioxidant indices (glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and catalase), with a significant reduction in malondialdehyde levels, indicating a higher antioxidant capacity compared to the control. Significant improvements in haematological parameters, such as an increase in haematocrit, haemoglobin and red blood cells and a decrease in white blood cells, were observed in BCE-fed treatments compared to the control. Furthermore, BCE-fed groups showed a significant decrease in serum glucose, cortisol and triglycerides, while total protein, globulin and albumin levels were significantly higher compared with the control. During the feeding trial of 90 days, no mortality was observed; however, the lowest cumulative mortality was noted in the 2 g/kg BCE group after crowding stress of 8 days. In conclusion, the use of BCE in feed can enhance the growth performance, antioxidant status, haematology, and serum biochemistry of C. catla and improve the resistance against crowding stress. The optimum levels of BCE for C. catla were estimated based on weight gain % (1.78 g/kg; R2 = 0.97), feed conversion ratio (1.65 g/kg; R2 = 0.98), MDA content (1.66 g/kg; R2 = 0.93) and serum lysozyme activity (1.72 g/kg; R2 = 1) using broken-line regression analysis.

The aim of this study was to determine the optimal dietary phosphorus (P) requirement and its effects on growth performance, body composition, mineralization and alkaline phosphate (ALP) activity in silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix). A total of 360 fish with an average initial weight of 7.0 ± 0.15 g were divided into 18 tanks (70 L capacity each) with a stocking density of 20 fish per tank in triplicate. The fish were fed diets containing six levels of P (3.3, 4.4, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5 and 8.6 g/kg) up to satiation for 90 days twice daily at 09:00 and 16:00. The results showed that fish fed diets containing 6.5 and 7.5 g/kg dietary P had significantly higher (p < 0.05) growth performance in terms of final weight gain, average weight gain (AWG), weight gain% (WG%), protein efficiency ratio (PER) and specific growth rate (SGR) than fish fed other diets. The best value of the feed conversion ratio (FCR) was observed in fish fed the 6.5 g/kg P diet, which was not significantly different from the 7.5 g/kg P diet. Increasing P supplementation above 6.5 g/kg significantly reduced (p < 0.05) the feed intake of silver carp. Whole-body composition analysis indicated that increasing P levels resulted in a decrease (p < 0.05) in crude fat (CF) and an increase (p < 0.05) in crude ash (CA) content, while crude protein (CP) and moisture content remained unaffected (p > 0.05). Fish fed diets containing ≥6.5 g/kg P had significantly higher (p < 0.05) Ca content in the whole body, bones and scales compared to those fed diets containing ≤5.5 g/kg P. A similar trend was observed for P and Mg contents in the whole body, bones and scales. The Zn content tended to decrease (p < 0.05) with increasing P supplementation in the whole body and bones, but fish fed diets containing ≥6.5 g/kg P had significantly higher (p < 0.05) Zn content compared to fish fed diets containing ≤5.5 g/kg P. The Ca/P ratio was significantly affected by P supplementation. Fish fed diets containing ≥6.5 g/kg P had significantly higher (p < 0.05) Ca and P contents in the serum than fish fed other diets. ALP activity increased (p < 0.05) with increasing P levels up to 6.5 g/kg P and decreased (p < 0.05) thereafter. In conclusion, supplementing P up to 6.35 g/kg is recommended for the optimal growth of silver carp.

INTRODUCTION: Family planning includes a wide range of services, such as counseling, contraception, and support to couples. Evidence shows that developing countries have a high degree of inequality in contraception use and prevalence. Reasons for these inequalities include cultural barriers such as traditional preferences and a desire for larger families and lineage, especially in rural areas. The primary objective of this research was to examine the updated contraceptive method preferences of couples in rural and urban regions of Pakistan and how these translate to family planning practices among the different provinces. METHODS: A secondary survey analysis using the Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey 2019 survey data was conducted. The dataset included 15 143 women sampled proportionally from the provinces, including Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The unit of analysis was 'women' from the individual survey dataset. Age, type of residence (rural, urban), division, education level, and language were used to evaluate access to family planning and contraception services. The c2 test assessed the relationship between dependent and independent variables. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was then performed to see the likelihood of contraceptive use among women. RESULTS: Of the women in the sample, 55% were from rural areas and 50% were without formal education; 51.7% of these women were using or practicing any form of contraception method. The most common method used was condoms (9.2%), followed by injectables (6.2%). Regression analysis showed that women aged 15-19 years were less likely (odds ratio (OR)=0.71, 95% confidence interval (CI)=0.51-1.01) to use contraception when compared to the reference group. The likelihood of contraceptive use was higher in urban areas (OR=1.53, 95%Cl=1.39-1.69). Noticeably, contraceptive use was less likely in uneducated women (OR=0.62, 95%Cl=0.56-070). Punjab province had the highest contraceptive prevalence (34.3%), whereas Baluchistan had the lowest (6.9%). The use of contraception in urban and rural populations was similar in all provinces except Sindh and Gilgit Baltistan. In urban and rural areas, women in the age group 30-35 years who use contraception show a prevalence of 21% and 22% respectively. CONCLUSION: The study highlights suboptimal use of contraceptives and the existence of high levels of inequalities among the regions. There is a need for the implementation of focused educational initiatives and counseling interventions along with prioritization of accessibility and affordability of contraceptive methods among women in lower socioeconomic regions.

BACKGROUND: Iodine deficiency is a significant public health problem for many populations worldwide, including India, particularly during the "first 1000 days" of life. Though Universal Salt iodization (USI) is mandatory in India, prior to 2018-19, there was no state-wide survey with estimates of iodine concentrations in salt using iodometric titration. Taking cognizance of this fact, Nutrition International commissioned the first-of-its-kind national-level survey in India, titled the India Iodine Survey 2018-19. OBJECTIVES: The study was conducted across the country to provide national and subnational estimates of iodine concentrations in household salt using iodometric titration and iodine nutrition status among women of reproductive age (15-49 y). METHODS: The survey adopted a multi-stage randomcluster probability proportional to size sampling design, covering 21,406 households in all the states and union territories (UTs) of India. RESULTS: At the national level, the household coverage of edible salt with adequate iodine (content ≥15 parts/million) was 76.3%. At the sub-national level, the coverage varied, with 10 states and 3 UTs achieving USI and 11 states and 2 UTs falling below the national average, with the highest among all the states and UTs, being Jammu and Kashmir and the lowest being Tamil Nadu. At the national level, the median urinary iodine concentration for pregnant women was 173.4 µg/L, for lactating women was 172.8 µg/L, and for non-pregnant, non-lactating women, it was 178.0 µg/L, which is within the adequate iodine nutrition range according to the WHO guidelines. CONCLUSIONS: The survey results can be widely used by various stakeholders, including government, academia, and industry, to understand the iodine nutrition status of the population, enable the scale-up of sustained efforts toward consolidating gains and achieving USI, leading to the reduction and elimination of Iodine Deficiency Disorders.

In this comprehensive study, the dynamic behavior of a copper-water nanofluid infused with gyrotactic microorganisms, focusing on the effects of Hall current, nanoparticle radius, inter-particle spacing, and multiple slip mechanisms is investigated. Through advanced numerical simulations and rigorous analysis, intricate relationships between the parameters and the suspension's characteristics are uncovered. Comparison of the present results show a good agreement with the published results. The research findings unveil the potential for fine-tuning transport processes, manipulating thermal properties, and controlling dispersion and aggregation in nanofluids. These insights hold promise for a wide array of applications, from enhancing heat exchangers and cooling systems to pioneering biomedical devices utilizing gyrotactic microorganisms for targeted drug delivery and sensing. This study not only advances the fundamental understanding of nanofluid dynamics but also paves the way for innovative developments across various scientific and engineering domains.

Perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) feature adjustable bandgap, wide absorption range, and great color purity for robust perovskite optoelectronic applications. Nevertheless, the absence of lasting stability under continues energization, is still a major hurdle to the widespread use of NCs in commercial applications. In particular, the reactivity of red-emitting perovskites to environmental surroundings is more sensitive than that of their green counterparts. Here, we present a simple synthesis of ultrathin ZrO2coated, Sr2+doped CsPbBrI2NCs. Introducing divalent Sr2+may significantly eliminate Pb° surface traps, whereas ZrO2encapsulation greatly improves environmental stability. The photoluminescence quantum yield of the Sr2+-doped CsPbBrI2/ZrO2NCs was increased from 50.2% to 87.2% as a direct consequence of the efficient elimination of Pb° surface defects. Moreover, the thickness of the ZrO2thin coating gives remarkable heat resistance and improved water stability. Combining CsPbSr0.3BrI2/ZrO2NCs in a white light emitting diode (LED) with an excellent optical efficiency (100.08 lm W-1), high and a broad gamut 141% (NTSC) standard. This work offers a potential method to suppress Pb° traps by doping with Sr2+and improves the performance of perovskite NCs by ultrathin coating structured ZrO2, consequently enabling their applicability in commercial optical displays.

This prospective, longitudinal case-control study examined global and domain-specific aspects of self-esteem 6-months following pediatric traumatic brain injury (TBI) and evaluated the contribution of injury-related factors and parent mental health to child self-esteem. Participants included 103 children with mild-severe TBI representing consecutive admissions to the emergency department of the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. Forty-three age-and-sex matched typically developing controls were recruited for comparison. Information regarding injury characteristics including age at injury and clinical indicators of TBI severity were collected for participants at recruitment, with research magnetic resonance imaging conducted 2-8 weeks later. At 6 months post-injury, children rated their global and domain-specific self-esteem (Harter Self-Perception Profile for Children), and ratings of parent mental health were collected (General Health Questionnaire). Self-esteem for behavioural and academic domains was significantly poorer for children with TBI relative to TD children. In the TBI group, higher child-rated scores of global and domain-specific aspects of self-esteem were associated with more severe TBI, presence of frontal neuropathology, younger age at injury, and lower parental symptoms of anxiety/insomnia. Given the psychological status of parents represents a potentially modifiable risk factor, it may form the target of clinical interventions designed to bolster child self-esteem following pediatric TBI.

Could DFS help prevent iron deficiency and anemia? Studies in controlled settings (efficacy) demonstrate that double-fortified salt (DFS; iron added to iodized salt) reduces the prevalence of anemia and iron deficiency anemia. Studies in program settings (effectiveness) are limited and reported differing levels of DFS coverage, resulting in mixed evidence of impact on anemia. What iron formulations are available and how do they affect iodized salt? Ferrous sulfate and encapsulated ferrous fumarate (both with various enhancers and/or coating materials) are the main iron formulations currently in use for DFS. Adding iron to iodized salt may lead to adverse changes in the product, specifically discoloration and losses in iodine content. These changes are greatest when the iodized salt used in DFS production is of low quality (e.g., contain impurities, has high moisture, and is of large crystal size). DFS requires iodized salt of the highest quality and a high-quality iron formulation in order to minimize adverse sensory changes and iodine losses. Appropriate packaging of iodized salt is also important to prevent losses. What is known about the minimum requirements to manufacture DFS? DFS producers must use high-quality refined iodized salt meeting the minimum standards for DFS production (which is higher than standards for salt intended for iodization alone), and an iron formulation for which there are rigid quality-assurance measures to ensure consistent quality and blending techniques. The actual proportion of iodized salt meeting the stringent requirements necessary for DFS production is unclear, but likely to be low in many countries, especially those with fragmented salt industries and a low proportion of industrially produced salt. What are the financial implications of adding iron to iodized salt? As a result of higher input costs both for input salt and the iron compound, DFS is more expensive to produce than iodized salt and thus has a higher production cost. Various grades of iodized salt are produced and consumed in different sectors of the market. Experience in India indicates that, on average, producing DFS costs 31-40 US dollars/metric ton or 0.03-0.04 US dollars/kg more than high-quality refined iodized salt. The exact impact of this production-level cost difference on profit margins and consumer price is specific to the conditions of different salt markets. Factors such as transport costs, customary wholesale and retail mark-ups, and taxes all vary greatly and need to be assessed on a case by case basis. Is DFS in alignment with salt-reduction efforts? The WHO has long recognized that salt iodization is an important public health intervention to achieve optimal iodine nutrition and is compatible with salt-reduction goals. Fortification of salt (with any nutrient) should not be used to justify or encourage an increase in salt intake to the public. Any effort to expand salt fortification to other nutrients should be done in close consultation with WHO and those working on salt reduction. What has been the experience with DFS delivery under different platforms? To date, DFS has been introduced into the retail market and in social safety net (primarily in India) programs, but sensory changes in DFS have been raised as concerns. The higher price for DFS has limited expansion in the retail market. In social safety net programs where the cost of DFS is subsidized for beneficiaries, programs must consider long-term resourcing for sustainability. Overall: The optimal production and delivery of DFS are still under development, as many challenges need to be overcome. There is a beneficial impact on hemoglobin in efficacy trials. Thus, if those conditions can be replicated in programs or the technology can be adapted to better fit current production and delivery realities, DFS may provide an effective contribution in countries that need additional food-fortification vehicles to improve iron intake.

In recent years, seamless phase I/II clinical trials have drawn much attention, as they consider both toxicity and efficacy endpoints in finding an optimal dose (OD). Engaging an appropriate number of patients in a trial is a challenging task. This paper attempts a dynamic stopping rule to save resources in phase I/II trials. That is, the stopping rule aims to save patients from unnecessary toxic or subtherapeutic doses. We allow a trial to stop early when widths of the confidence intervals for the dose-response parameters become narrower or when the sample size is equal to a predefined size, whichever comes first. The simulation study of dose-response scenarios in various settings demonstrates that the proposed stopping rule can engage an appropriate number of patients. Therefore, we suggest its use in clinical trials.

Fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) is recommended for Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) treatment; however, use in solid organ transplantation (SOT) patients has theoretical safety concerns. This multicenter, retrospective study evaluated FMT safety, effectiveness, and risk factors for failure in SOT patients. Primary cure and overall cure were defined as resolution of diarrhea or negative C difficile stool test after a single FMT or after subsequent FMT(s) ± anti-CDI antibiotics, respectively. Ninety-four SOT patients underwent FMT, 78% for recurrent CDI and 22% for severe or fulminant CDI. FMT-related adverse events (AE) occurred in 22.3% of cases, mainly comprising self-limiting conditions including nausea, abdominal pain, and FMT-related diarrhea. Severe AEs occurred in 3.2% of cases, with no FMT-related bacteremia. After FMT, 25% of patients with underlying inflammatory bowel disease had worsening disease activity, while 14% of cytomegalovirus-seropositive patients had reactivation. At 3 months, primary cure was 58.7%, while overall cure was 91.3%. Predictors of failing a single FMT included inpatient status, severe and fulminant CDI, presence of pseudomembranous colitis, and use of non-CDI antibiotics at the time of FMT. These data suggest FMT is safe in SOT patients. However, repeated FMT(s) or additional antibiotics may be needed to optimize rates of cure with FMT.

The synthesis and characterization of a mixed ligand metal-organic framework (MOF) with good thermal and chemical stability, {[Co(BDC)(L)·2H2O]·xG}n (CoMOF-2), involving an aromatic dicarboxylate (H2BDC = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid) and an acyl-decorated N-donor linker [L = (E)-N'-(pyridin-4-ylmethylene) isonicotinohydrazide] by various physicochemical techniques, including Single crystal X-Ray Diffraction (SXRD), are reported. The MOF showed a good affinity for CO2 capture, and Grand Canonical Monte Carlo simulation studies exposed strong interactions of CO2 with the functionalized N-donor ligand of the framework. CoMOF-2 and KI act as an efficient binary catalyst for the sustainable utilization of CO2 with spiro-epoxy oxindole to spirocyclic carbonate under ambient conditions. Notably, herein we report MOF-based catalysis for the cycloaddition of oxindole-based epoxides with CO2 for harvesting new spirocyclic carbonates. Interestingly, we could isolate and crystallize six of the spirocyclic carbonate products, and the structure of the newly synthesized molecules has been established by SXRD analysis. We present a plausible proposed catalytic mechanism through activation of the epoxide ring by the Lewis acidic/basic sites present on the framework surface that is validated by molecular modeling.

BACKGROUND: This study highlights the effect of removing different plant parts on the biochemical changes in the garlic scape of cultivars G064 and G025 during controlled atmosphere storage (O2 = 2%-5%, CO2 = 3%-6%) at temperature = 0 ± 0.5 °C, Relative Humidity (RH) RH = 85%-95%, for 168 day. Total polyphenols (TP), total flavonoids (TF), the concentration of allicin, ethylene production and the antioxidant potential were evaluated and analyzed by using four different assays. Statistically significant differences were observed between different treatments. RESULTS: Total polyphenols, allicin concentration, and ethylene production were the highest in G064, while the total flavonoid concentration was the highest in G025. Removing the top resulted in the highest levels of total polyphenols, total flavonoids, allicin, and ethylene in both cultivars. The antioxidant capacity was also significantly higher when the top was removed than with other treatments in both cultivars. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), hydroxyl radical scavenging activity (HRSC), ferric ion reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and metal-chelating capacity (MCC) were higher in cultivar G064 compared to G025. CONCLUSION: Overall, the results suggest that the removing the tops of the scapes of G025 and G064 is the best treatment to maintain these biochemical changes. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry.

Chemical reaction in mixed convection magnetohydrodynamic second grade nanoliquid thin film flow through a porous medium containing nanoparticles and gyrotactic microorganisms is considered with entropy generation. The stratification phenomena, heat and mass transfer simultaneously take place within system. Microorganisms are utilized to stabilize the suspended nanoparticles through bioconvection. For the chemical reaction of species, the mass transfer increases. The governing equations of the problem are transformed to nonlinear differential equations through similarity variables, which are solved through a well known scheme called homotopy analysis method. The solution is expressed through graphs and illustrations which show the influences of all the parameters. The residual error graphs elucidate the authentication of the present work.

Wealth of structural data on theurapeutic targets in complex with monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and advances in molecular modeling algorithms present exciting opportunities in the field of novel biologic design. Interleukin 23 (IL23), a well-known drug target for autoimmune diseases, in complex with mAb 7G10 offers prospect to design potent lead antibodies by traversing the complete epitope-paratope interface. Herein, key interactions aiding antibody-based neutralization in IL23-7G10 complex are resolute through PyMOL, LigPlot+, Antibody i-Patch, DiscoTope and FoldX. Six amino acids Ser31, Val33, Asn55, Lys59 in heavy chain and His34, Ser93 in light chain are subjected to in silico mutagenesis with residues Met, Trp, Ile, Leu and Arg. A set of 431 mutant macromolecules are outlined. Binding affinities of these molecules with IL23 are estimated through protein-protein docking by employing ZDOCK, ClusPro and RosettaDock. Subsequently, the macromolecules revealed comparable result with 7G10 are cross validated through binding free-energy calculations by applying Molecular Mechanics/Poisson Boltzman Surface Area method in CHARMM. Thirty nine designed theoretical antibodies showed improved outcome in all evaluations; from these, top 10 molecules showed at least nine unit better binding affinity compared to the known mAb. These molecules have the potential to act as lead antibodies. Subsequent molecular dynamics simulations too favored prospective of best ranked molecule to have therapeutic implications in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Two-dimensional ZnII /CdII -based dual ligand metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) {[M(CHDC)(L)]⋅H2 O}n involving 4-pyridyl carboxaldehyde isonicotinoylhydrazone (L) in combination with flexible 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid (H2 CHDC) as linkers have been synthesized by adaptable synthetic protocols including a green mechanochemical (grinding) method. Characterization, chemical/thermal stability, phase purity, and solid-state luminescent properties of both MOFs have been established by various analytical methods. Structural analysis revealed dimeric metal clusters composed of [M2 (CHDC)2 ]n loops doubly pillared with L, generating a 2D framework. Both MOFs can be used as highly active solvent-free binary catalysts for CO2 cycloaddition with epoxides in the presence of the co-catalyst tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) with good catalytic conversion in up to six catalytic cycles without significant loss of activity. The present investigation demonstrates the application of MOFs as efficient heterogeneous catalysts for CO2 utilization under moderate reaction conditions. Based on the single-crystal X-ray data, a probable mechanism for the cycloaddition reaction has also been proposed.
