RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze how the indications of comprehensiveness translate into the teaching-learning process in a nursing undergraduate course. METHOD: Qualitative case study carried out with professors of a Nursing Undergraduate Course. Data collection occurred through documentary analysis, non-participant observation and individual interviews. Data analysis was guided from an analytical matrix following the steps of the operative proposal. RESULTS: Eight professors participated in the study. Some indications of comprehensiveness such as dialogue, listening, mutual respect, bonding and welcoming are present in the daily life of some professors. The indications of comprehensiveness are applied by some professors in the pedagogical relationship. The results refer to the Comprehensiveness of teaching-learning in a single and double loop model, and in this the professor and the student assume an open posture for new possibilities in the teaching-learning process. CONCLUSION: Comprehensiveness, as it is recognized as a pedagogical principle, allows the disruption of a professor-centered teaching and advances in collective learning, enabling the professor and student to create their own design anchored in a reflective process about their practices and the reality found in the health services.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To understand the pedagogical elements necessary for the debriefing to favor the development of reflective thinking. METHOD: A single case study developed at the Centro de Simulación en Salud of the Escuela de Enfermería of the Universidad de Costa Rica in October 2018. Data were collected through interviews, observation and document analysis. For data analysis, the strategy of theoretical propositions and the construction of explanation technique were used. RESULTS: The data originated two categories: 1) pedagogy of the organization, addressed elements thought by the professor to facilitate the dialogue; 2) facilitation pedagogy, brought elements from the dialogue itself that enrich the discussion, mobilize the group, provoke reflection and engagement. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: It is essential to include the following as pedagogical elements in order to favor the development of reflective thinking: prior planning, adequate environment, systematization, pedagogical training in facilitating debriefing, openness to dialogue, pedagogical respect, valorization of positive aspects, patience, and motivation.

RESUMO

Abortion, a current reality in our society, is a complex challenge for healthcare professionals. The objective of this article is to report the representations that Primary Healthcare nurses from the city of Chapecó (SC) have regarding the care of women experiencing abortion/unsafe abortion. This is a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study. Data were collected by means of focal groups comprised of eight nurses, and then analyzed using the method of Collective Subject Discourse Analysis. The discourses indicate that the care provided is permeated with conflicts between assuming an attitude against abortion, supporting the women or remaining impartial. The representation of the preservation of life, a principle taught by professional training and Christian tradition, triggers attempts to convince the women to avoid the abortion. When nurses are not successful in trying to help women find a safe alternative, they advise them to go home and think about the situation, making it clear to the women that she is not the professional who performs the abortion and abandoning the women...

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: to map Brazilian undergraduate nursing students' critical thinking level and investigate the correlation between selected sociodemographic data and critical thinking domains. METHODS: in this descriptive cross-sectional study, participants' (N=89) critical thinking was assessed using the Health Science Reasoning Test. Correlation between critical thinking domains and sociodemographic data was assessed using the Pearson correlation coefficient. RESULTS: the overall results showed a moderate level of participants' critical thinking (mean = 70.7; standard deviation 5.7). A poor performance was identified in 5 of the 8 critical thinking domains. A significant positive correlation was found between education period and critical thinking (p<.001). CONCLUSIONS: poor level in students critical thinking domains may lead to negative consequences for their learning outcomes. Further studies should be carried out to confirm our results, in addition to investigation of teaching methods that encourage and ensure the development of students' critical thinking skills during nursing education.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Critical thinking is a crucial skill in the nursing profession, so teaching strategies and methodology must be carefully considered when training and preparing nursing students to think critically. Studies on simulation-based learning supported by technology are increasing in nursing education, but no scoping reviews have mapped the literature on simulation-based learning supported by technology to enhance critical thinking in nursing students. OBJECTIVE: The proposed scoping review aims to systematically map research on the use of simulation-based learning supported by technology to enhance critical thinking in nursing students. METHODS: The proposed scoping review will use the framework established by Arksey and O'Malley and will be reported according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) extension for scoping reviews. A systematic, comprehensive literature search was performed in the LILACS, ERIC, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, and Web of Science databases. Pairs of authors independently selected the articles by screening titles, abstracts, full-text papers, and extract data. The data will be analyzed and thematically categorized. RESULTS: The development of a comprehensive and systematic search strategy was completed in June 2021. The database searches were performed in July 2021, and the screening of titles and abstracts was completed in September 2021. Charting the data began in February 2022. Analysis and synthesis will be performed sequentially, and the scoping review is expected to be complete by May 2023. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this proposed scoping review may identify gaps in the literature and provide an overview of research on the topic of simulation-based learning supported by technology to enhance critical thinking in nursing students. The research may identify nursing students' reported barriers and enablers for learning critical thinking skills through simulation-based learning supported by technology, and the results may help educators enhance their educational approach through knowledge of students' firsthand experiences and further development of successful teaching strategies in nursing education. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: to reflect on Florence Nightingale's legacy and describe her contributions to critical holistic thinking in nursing. METHODS: this is a theoretical reflection, for which scientific productions on Florence Nightingale's environmental theory, as published in national and international journals, were based. RESULTS: Florence Nightingale's philosophy and teachings emphasize that the nurse must use her brain, heart and hands to create healing environments to care for the patient's body, mind and spirit. Nursing, since the time of Nightingale, has been building the holistic paradigm, in all schools of thought, with a view to a humanistic approach to the human being in their indivisible relationship with the environment. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: Florence's contributions to holistic critical thinking in nursing are evident, constituting nurses' differential in clinical practice.

RESUMO

The objective of this research was to analyse federal government interventions in crisis management and the consequences for health professionals. This is a documentary-type qualitative research. Brazilian Federal regulations referring to work and health education produced during the pandemic emergency of COVID-19, published from January 28 to June 2, 2020, were identified. Of the total of 845 documents, 62 were selected in accordance with the inclusion criteria and were then submitted to Thematic Content Analysis. The results and discussions were grouped into four categories:workforce management, workforce protection, workforce training and academic-workforce relationship. Absence of a federal coordinating actions and policies for desinformation were identified. This lacking mechanisms for coordination contributed decisively to the tragic epidemiological situation still underway, especially in terms of the exposure of health workers to the risk of contamination, revealed in the extremely high rates of professionals infected or killed by COVID-19 in Brazil and the failure to control the pandemic in the population.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: to identify the characteristics of violence in the context of the teaching and learning of the undergraduate Nursing course, from the perspective of students. METHODS: quantitative, cross-sectional study, developed with 208 undergraduate students in Nursing. The data was obtained through the application of a survey questionnaire and processed by descriptive and bivariate statistics. RESULTS: of the participants, 69.2% (n = 144) have experienced some kind of violence. Violent acts of a psychological nature were the most frequent, but there were also reports of physical, sexual violence and deprivation or abandonment. Violence was practiced in a theoretical and practical learning environment. Teachers and classmates were the most frequent perpetrators. Most students had no reaction, told friends, family, and colleagues, or pretended that nothing happened in the face of the violent acts. CONCLUSIONS: violence is present at various moments in the undergraduate Nursing course and can negatively impact the quality of training in the area.

RESUMO

The article offers a reflection of blood donation in an hemocenter of Santa Catarina, with a mechanic and organic solidarity approach. It discuss the way of life in contemporary globalization and the cult of speed in a context pervaded by uncertainties and adversities. People live in a fast world, making social interaction difficult, contributing to the weakening of values and attitudes that could improve the quality of life. Considering the difficulties of everyday contemporary society, concerning Brazilian hemotherapy history on blood donation, there is a perception that attitudes and values, such as solidarity, have been modifying in subtle ways with a background of current events. It searches for understanding of blood donation as mechanic and organic solidarity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: to analyze the processes of production of meanings, based on the positions of Brazilian nursing representative entities, on distance education, considering the implications for nursing as a discipline, profession and work. METHODS: this documentary research was carried out in sources from the Federal Nursing Council and Associação Brasileira de Enfermagem, from 2015 to 2018. Data were examined from discourse analysis, using paraphrase and polysemy as analytical devices. RESULTS: they were organized based on the effects of meanings produced and affiliated to two analytical categories: "Forms of mobilization and operating entities" and "Basis and justifications for the positions". Final Considerations: the discourses signal concern about the future training of new professionals. Resistance, participation, visibility, broad and emphatic debate on the topic are shown as strategies for coping and defending a training process less captured by neoliberal logic, and more relational and committed to the quality of health care.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: to analyze the philosophical, theoretical and methodological conceptions of the Theory of Praxic Intervention in Nursing in Collective Health by professors at a federal university, aiming at structuring a reference proposal for teaching nursing care. METHODS: Convergent Assistance Research, with 17 teachers, gathered in convergence groups for instrumentalization and production about the referential. RESULTS: the focus was primarily on issues considered preliminary to the theoretical and philosophical deepening of theory; and then a theoretical-methodological essay on historicity and dialectics was developed for teaching in nursing care. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: when electing Theory of Praxic Intervention in Nursing in Collective Health, the potential of the referential to make operational, in the teaching of assistance, the assumptions of historicity and dialectics operational, founding new conceptions for care. This decision represents a paradigmatic challenge exposing weaknesses in the formation related to its Cartesian origin and its limitations regarding intrinsic philosophical complexity.

RESUMO

OBJETIVES: to analyze the implication of the training/continuing education process of professionals of the Expanded Nucleus of Family Health and Basic Care (Portuguese acronym: Nasf-AB) for their interprofessional performance. METHODS: a qualitative case study performed with Nasf-AB teams representative of four macro-regions of health of the state of Santa Catarina. Participation of 43 professionals, who answered collective interviews. The results were later submitted to thematic analysis. RESULTS: the training is strongly influenced by the Biomedical Model, which acts as an obstacle to interprofessional performance, given the challenges in the daily routine of Nasf-AB professionals. Continuing education emerges as a potential for the successful collaborative work among teams, and between the teams and Family Health professionals. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: there are important limits in the training of professionals. However, the constant interprofessional development promoted by strategies of continuing education contributes to broaden the support and collaborative practices that qualify services and strengthen Basic Care.
