RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To identify and synthesize scientific evidence that the use of face protection masks by children, in the community and at home, is a way of preventing communicable diseases. DATA SOURCE: A scoping review was made using the Joana Briggs Institute method and PRISMA-ScR. A research was carried out in five electronic databases, at the Cochrane Library and on seven websites of governmental and non-governmental institutions. The data were organized in a spreadsheet and submitted to narrative analysis. DATA SYNTHESIS: Initially, 658 productions were identified, of which 19 made up the final sample. Studies with higher levels of evidence are scarce. The types of masks identified were professional (surgical and facial respirators with filtration) and non-professional (homemade). The transmissible agents studied were influenza and SARS-CoV-2 viruses, and the evaluated environments were schools, homes and community spaces. The main discomforts reported were heat, shortness of breath, headache and maladjustment to the face. The indication and acceptability of masks change according to the age group and clinical conditions. There is no consensus on the reduction in the transmissibility of infections. CONCLUSIONS: Children older than five can benefit from the correct use of masks, as long as they are supervised, taught and educated to do so and the masks should be well adjusted to the face. The use of masks show better results when associated with other measures such as physical distancing, keeping places ventilated and frequent hand hygiene.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: to evaluate the effect of oral cryotherapy compared to physiological serum on the development of oral mucositis in outpatient cancer patients using the 5-fluorouracil antineoplastic agent. METHOD: this is a controlled, randomized, double-blind, and multi-center clinical trial, conducted with 60 patients undergoing chemotherapy. The experimental group (n=30) used oral cryotherapy during the infusion of the 5-FU antineoplastic agent, while the control group (n=30) performed mouthwash with physiological serum at their homes. The oral cavity of the participants was assessed at three times: before randomization, and on the 7th and 14th days after using 5-FU. For data analysis, descriptive analyses and the ANOVA, paired t, and McNemar tests were used. RESULTS: there was no statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups in the assessments regarding the grade of mucositis. However, cryotherapy presented the chance to reduce the presence of intragroup mucositis, between the first and second assessments (p=0.000126). CONCLUSION: cryotherapy did not obtain statistical significance in relation to oral hygiene with serum, but it proved to be effective intragroup. Record number: RBR-4k7zh3.

RESUMO

A cross-sectional study in conjunction with a health extension program was conducted with 605 adolescents aged between 13 and 18 years from 22 public schools in Divinópolis, Brazil. The aim of the study was to determine the vaccination status of the adolescents and their level of knowledge of communicable and vaccine-preventable diseases. Three-stage cluster sampling was used comprising schools, classes, and students. The findings show that vaccination coverage among adolescents was 45.1% and yellow fever was shown to have the lowest coverage rate (64%). The most mentioned diseases when the adolescents were asked which vaccinations they had had were infantile paralysis (60.7%), yellow fever (56%), tetanus (34%), and measles (28.6%). Extension activities were conducted with 6,650 people, comprising vaccination (2,334 doses administered), aimed at expanding vaccination coverage, and health education activities with 2,839 adolescents directed at sexually transmitted diseases, family planning; and licit and illicit drugs. The study had a positive impact in terms of the expansion of vaccination coverage and the extension activities played an essential role in increasing the adolescents' knowledge of the themes addressed.

A indicação e a aceitabilidade mudam conforme faixa etária e condições clínicas.

Abstract Objective To analyze the content and usability of a mobile application prototype to support patient education in the preoperative period of myocardial revascularization. Methods This is a quantitative methodological study based on the contextualized instructional design framework. In the analysis stage, a scoping review and a qualitative study were carried out with 13 patients to identify the content to compose the application. In the design and development stage, content was structured. In the implementation stage, resources were configured. In the assessment stage, the Delphi technique was used, with content assessment from the Pasquali criteria and application usability through the ERGOLIST by 20 judges in the first round and 16 in the second. For analysis, the Content Validity Coefficient was used, considered valid above 0.8 and the percentage of agreement equal to or greater than 80%. The binomial test was performed on each item to determine the significance level (p<0.05). Results Content analysis resulted in a Content Validity Coefficient greater than 0.8 and a percentage of agreement greater than 80% in all analyzed criteria. Usability, on the other hand, presented a percentage greater than 90% in all items. All items analyzed were statistically significant. The OrientaRVM application was composed of 90 screens that form the initial menu and nine sections: understand more about the heart; understand your illness; understand coronary artery bypass graft surgery or breast bypass surgery; care before surgery; care after surgery; rehabilitation and lifestyle changes; patient records; schedule; quiz. Conclusion OrientaRVM presents reliable content, adequate functionality and was recommended to be used as an auxiliary resource in patient education before myocardial revascularization.
