RESUMO

AIMS: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a growing chronic disease. Evidence of whether the healthcare setting affects management and glycemic control is scarce. We evaluate outcomes in patients with T1D in private and public healthcare settings in Mexico, registered in the National T1D Registry in Mexico (RENACED-DT1). METHODS: Biochemical parameters, diabetes education, and treatment were analyzed considering the data registered in the last visit. Development of chronic complications was determined during follow-up. RESULTS: We included 1,603 patients; 71.5% (n = 1,146) registered in the public system, and 28.5% (n = 457) in a private institution. Patients in the public setting had higher HbA1c (8.6%, IQR: 7.3%-10.5% vs 7.7%, IQR: 7.0%-8.8%; p < 0.001). Indicators of diabetes education, glucose monitoring, and use of insulin-pumps were lower in the public setting. Patients in the public setting were at higher risk of diabetic chronic kidney disease, retinopathy, and neuropathy. Diabetes knowledge was a mediator between type of healthcare setting and the likelihood of achieving glycemic control. CONCLUSIONS: Patients registered in public healthcare settings have an adverse metabolic profile and higher risk of complications. Social factors need to be addressed in order to implement multidisciplinary measures focused on diabetes education for patients with T1D in Mexico.

RESUMO

Hybrid molecules obtained through conjugation of monoclonal antibodies and toxins constitute an approach under exploration to generate potential agents for the treatment of cancer and other diseases. A frequently employed toxic component in the construction of such immunotoxins is ricin, a plant toxin which inhibits protein synthesis at ribosomal level and so requires to be internalized by the cell. A hemolytic toxin isolated from the sea anemone Stichodactyla helianthus, which is active at the cell membrane level, was linked through a disulfide bond to the anti-epidermal growth factor receptor monoclonal antibody ior egf/r3. The resulting immunotoxin did not exhibit hemolytic activity except under reducing conditions. It was toxic for H125 cells that express the human epidermal growth factor receptor, but non-toxic for U1906 cells that do not express this receptor.

RESUMO

Se describen las características histológicas y citológicas de 4 tumores trasplantables murinos mantenidos en su formas ascitica. Se tomaron muestras de órganos para el estudio microscópico y se realizaron improntasd del liquido ascitico. El tumor ascitico de Ehrlich es un tumor indiferenciado que cubre las serosas abdominales y las cápsulas de los órganos parenquimatosos. Las leucemias L1210 y L-P388 tienen comportamiento similar, el tejido neoplásico que cubre las serosas abdominales y las cápsulas de los órganos parenquimatosos está mezclado con un exudado inflamatorio, además aparece infiltrado por células neoplásicas del páncreas, hígado y riñón. Las leucemia L5178 sólo se diferencia de las anteriores en que el tejido neoplásico no sólo cubre las serosas abdominales sino que también las infiltra

RESUMO

Estudiamos cigogenéticamente las crías de ratones provenientes de madres expuestas a condesado de humo de cigarrillos, como posible indicador de daño inducido sobre el genoma de estos roedores. Encontramos en la generación F1 aberraciones cromosómicas que presentan diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre las crías de madres tratadas con condensado y las de controles y testigos, así como la aparición de células con 41 cromosomas en las crías F1 tratadas y sólo en ellas. En la generación F2 no se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas de aberraciones cromosómicas
