RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the history of the life and activism of Portuguese nurse Maria Augusta Sousa. METHOD: Sousa's life story was obtained by means of semi-structured interview swith Sousa as the oral source of data. NVivo qualitative research software was used for data analysis. Content analysis focused on thematic analysis based on the theoretical and philosophical ideas of Michel Foucault, in particular, power and techniques of the self. RESULTS: Alienation and political participation were revealed as pertinent issues. In techniques of production of activist subjects, the following were highlighted: the importance of the review of formal education; actions of involvement with the world, society and the profession; and finally, techniques of the self, techniques of constitution of activist subjects, professional identity and way of being. CONCLUSION: The constitution of the nurse Maria Augusta Sousa as an activist came about through questioning of how to be, education in the context of her family, and political engagement in Catholic Youth. This impacted her trajectory of contributions to Portuguese nursing, as expressed in the following achievements: the integration of nursing training into higher education; the creation of the Regulation of Nurses Professional Practice; and implementation of the Order of Nurses. OBJETIVO: Analisar a história de vida e militância da enfermeira Maria Augusta Sousa. MÉTODO: História de vida, tendo como fonte oral a entrevista semiestruturada. Na análise de dados utilizou-se do software de pesquisa qualitativa Nvivo, e a análise de conteúdo com foco na análise temática e com base teórico-filosófica de Michel Foucault, em especial, o poder e as técnicas de si. RESULTADOS: Evidenciaram-se a alienação e a participação política comoquestões pertinentes. Nas técnicas de produção de sujeitos militantes destacam-se a importânciada revisão da educação formal, dos atos de implicação com o mundo, a sociedade e a profissão, e por fim, as técnicas de si, técnicas de constituição de sujeitos militantes, a identidade profissional e o modo de ser. CONCLUSÃO: A constituição da enfermeira Maria Augusta Sousa como militante acontece por questões do modo de ser, da educação familiar e do seu engajamento político na Juventude Católica, que repercutiu em uma trajetória de contribuição para enfermagem portuguesa, expressa nas seguintes conquistas: a integração do Ensino de Enfermagem no Ensino Superior, a criação do Regulamento do Exercício Profissional de Enfermagem e a implantação da Ordem dos Enfermeiros.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the leadership strategies of nurses in university hospitals in response to care management changes during the COVID-19 pandemic, informed by John Kotter's insights. METHODS: This multicentric study utilized qualitative and analytical methods. It was conducted through semi-structured interviews with 139 lead nurses from 10 university hospitals in Brazil. Data analysis included Bardin's content analysis and the webQDA software. RESULTS: The primary category identified was "Nursing Leadership Strategies in the Battle Against COVID-19," encompassing five subcategories. This category underscored the importance of strategic vision in nursing leadership for combating COVID-19 within hospital settings, as well as the necessity of working collaboratively with their teams and other healthcare professionals. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The results highlight the strategies used by lead nurses in confronting COVID-19, which can be associated with John Kotter's theoretical framework and his model of change.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: to analyze nurse Josicélia Dumêt Fernandes' life story, with emphasis on her work in the psychiatry and mental health fields. METHODS: historical, qualitative research. Semi-structured interviews and documentary research were used as data collection techniques, collected from September to October 2021. For data analysis, we opted for the content analysis method and comparison with the Foucauldian philosophical framework. RESULTS: four categories emerged: Transforming herself and mental health practices; (Re)framing professional practice; Nursing practice and power relations; and The paths and implications in the psychiatry and mental health fields. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: the study of the biographer demonstrates a search for transformation of herself and mental health practices, with a rupture in paradigms and reframing of her practice in psychiatry and mental health.

OBJECTIVE: To map and characterize the studies produced by stricto sensu postgraduate programs on mental health nursing care using the theoretical framework of phenomenology. METHOD: Bibliographic, retrospective, and descriptive research, carried out in October 2022 using the Catalog of Theses and Dissertations of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel as a data source. The search strategy associated the term "phenomenology" with the Boolean operator "AND" and the descriptor "Mental Health". RESULTS: 22 studies were identified, 15 were MS dissertations and (68%) and 7 (32%) were PhD theses. The main phenomenological framework was the work of Schütz. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The scientific production of nursing in mental health, in the light of phenomenology, is highly variable. Although still incipient, the interest in' phenomenology's framework illuminates new perspectives for paradigms of care that value users' singularities and potentialities.

OBJECTIVE: To establish the implementation of nursing diagnoses and care for the spiritual dimension of people with cancer. METHOD: Action research in a university hospital in the north-east of Brazil. Nine nurses and thirteen nursing technicians from the Onco-hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of this hospital took part. Data collection took place in four phases and involved the talking map technique, pedagogical workshops and a logbook. The groups' speeches were coded using Maxqda software, subjected to Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis and interpreted in the light of Paulo Freire's constructs. RESULTS: Phase 1 sought to apprehend the participants' prior knowledge on the subject; in phase 2, proposals emerged for spiritual care organized in the Nursing Process; in phase 3, the diagnoses and care plan for the spiritual dimension for clinical practice were contemplated; and in phase 4, through the final evaluation, it was possible to see the transformations that occurred in the nursing team's practice with the proposed implementation. CONCLUSION: The educational actions provided significant learning for the nursing team and the implementation of diagnoses and nursing care for the spiritual dimension of people with cancer.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: to outline the teaching of ethics in undergraduate Nursing programs in Brazilian public higher education institutions. METHODS: descriptive and exploratory study, carried out through the documentary analysis of pedagogical projects of undergraduate Nursing programs in Brazil. RESULTS: 153 active undergraduate Nursing programs were found, of which 106 provide the pedagogical project. In addition to deontological teaching, the teaching of ethics was identified in a transversal way associated with themes such as Social Context, Hospital and Community Care, Pharmacology, Systematization of Nursing Care, Surgical Nursing, Epidemiology, Palliative Care, Management in Nursing, Diversity, Women's, Children's, Adolescent's, Adult's and Older People's Health, and Mental Health. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: the challenge in teaching nursing ethics is its integration with each action of caring, teaching and managing.

OBJECTIVE: To report the learning experience of students in the discipline "Phenomenology, Formation and Research", and to analyze the pedagogic planning of its problematization in the process of construction of knowledge, in a strict sensu program in Nursing and Health. METHOD: Descriptive-analytic report of the learning plan offered and of the theoretical framework of the data, from a Freirean perspective. RESULTS: The discipline was offered in the form of distance-education classes to six students and organized in three units: the first included five synchronous meetings and one asynchronous meeting; the second, three synchronous meetings; and the third, seven synchronous meetings and one asynchronous meeting. The methodologies applied included: presentations from guest lecturers, inverted classroom, and conceptual map. Husserl's and Heidegger's lines of thought were discussed. CONCLUSION: The construction of knowledge in phenomenology by postgraduates took place according with Freire's pedagogical structure, highlighting the concept of problematization.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: to reflect on the governmental normative acts issued for higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic and on the repercussions of these acts on the quality of nursing education in Brazil. METHODS: this is a reflection on the repercussions for the quality of nursing education, based on the normative acts applied to higher education, enacted from March to December 2020, available on the Ministry of Education website and in the current literature on the subject anchored in the National Curriculum Guidelines for the Undergraduate Nursing Course. RESULTS: educational legislation, in the context of the pandemic, distanced education from the world of work, as well as from the quality of training established in the guidelines. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: remote teaching in nursing makes it difficult to train professionals with the capacity to effectively teach and learn in the real world of care and health promotion in the Unified Health System.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: to reflect on the training of teachers in the field of health from the perspective of interprofessional education. METHODS: an essay based on the dialogue between the scientific literature, the health education inducing policies, and studies in the fields of research and teaching activities in pedagogical projects based on interprofessional education. RESULTS: teaching in health is revealed as a social practice that is built on multiple collaborative movements and training moments. In this sense, the presence of echoes and resonances of the inducing policies necessary for the reorientation of health education in the proposals for teacher development is recognized.

OBJECTIVE: To characterize the stricto sensu scientific production of Brazilian nursing that resorts to phenomenological theoretical frameworks. METHOD: Descriptive, exploratory, and document study carried out using the CAPES catalog of theses and dissertations from January to April 2022. RESULT: The sample included 600 dissertations and theses, with a predominance of the Heideggerian framework, followed by Schütz and Merleau-Ponty. Topics discussed included nursing care in women's health, mental health, pediatric and adolescent nursing, oncology nursing, obstetric nursing, Primary Health Care, as well as family and nursing education. CONCLUSION: Phenomenology was found to be a powerful reference for the unveiling of the phenomena of interest to the field of nursing, contributing to the construction of knowledge about the being who cares, the being who is cared for, and the care itself.

OBJECTIVE: to analyze the factors that influence nurses' decision-making process in Ibero-American university hospitals. METHOD: a case study with a qualitative approach and of the multicenter type, carried out with 30 Ibero-American nurses. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews, analyzed by thematic categories and interpreted according to the theoretical framework of Creating Effective Organizations. RESULTS: it was identified that the decision-making process permeates the development of nurses' own competencies, suffering influences from health management training and previous individual experiences. The following categories emerged: Technical-scientific preparation in decision-making; Hierarchization of the decision-making process; and Autonomous professional practice. CONCLUSION: the absence/presence of a rigid hierarchy, as well as technical-scientific preparation and autonomy, are factors that limit or expand the range of possibilities in nurses' decision-making, with consequences in care management. Thus, discussions about this theme should be encouraged, in order to promote nurses' autonomy for decision-making and favor a reduction of bureaucracy in the processes that prevent/hinder advances in these services.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: to report my experiences as a researcher during the course of advanced post-doctoral training abroad. METHODS: theoretical and methodological option for Max van Manen's phenomenology of practice. The activities were developed in the Health Sciences Research Unit: Nursing, in Portugal, Université Catholique de Louvain, in Belgium, and in Escuela de Enfermería y Fisioterapia de la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, in Spain. RESULTS: participating in a multicenter international research project enabled the acquisition of new scientific knowledge, personal and cultural gains. From a broader perspective, the international graduate and undergraduate nursing networks were strengthened through the mobility of researchers, and overcoming of the "status quo" by the formation of a critical mass environment indispensable for scientific advancement. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: sharing the experience that you appropriate is about the power of grasping possibilities of a practical experience, in the context of the world, and going through it, motivated by the desire to make internationalization feasible.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: to analyze the life and career of Anayde Corrêa de Carvalho and her contributions to nursing in Bahia. METHODS: oral history of her life and documentary research, with thematic content analysis. RESULTS: three categories were found: Personal Trajectory of Anayde Corrêa de Carvalho; The School of Nursing of Bahia; and School of Nursing of the University of São Paulo and Brazilian Nursing Association. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: this study made it possible to analyze the life of an ethical and committed nurse, who dedicated herself to nursing education and research and contributed significantly to the construction of the image and development of nursing as a profession in Bahia.

OBJECTIVE: To know the perception of nursing professors about the fragilities and potentialities in the training of nurse leaders. METHOD: Multiple case study, with a qualitative approach, performed with 36 nursing professors from a public university in the State of Bahia, Brazil. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, interpreted in the light of Paulo Freire's theoretical framework and analyzed according to Thematic Analysis and the Nvivo®11 software. RESULTS: Were highlighted as fragilities the need to improve the transversality of leadership throughout graduation and teaching focused on the banking model. The potentialities refer to the insertion of the students in the practice scenarios, enabling the approximation with the nursing and multidisciplinary teams, the use of active methodologies and participation in research groups. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: Professors consider the importance of problematizing pedagogical practices and invest in methodological strategies capable of promoting the training of nurse leaders.

OBJECTIVE: to describe the training-professional profile of nursing professors in the vocational course in nursing at the Technical Schools of the Unified Health System. METHODS: a quantitative descriptive research, carried out with 61 nurses who are professors of technical courses in nursing at five technical schools in three Brazilian regions. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and submitted to descriptive analysis. RESULTS: only 36% of teaching nurses were licensed and 80% had a specialization in nursing or health. Although 95.1% of participants considered training for teaching necessary, 44.2% did not have qualifications for this job. The average length of work in care was 8 years, focusing on the hospital network. CONCLUSION: the need for professor training and investment in it is evidenced, as the training of essential workers for nursing care and consolidation of the Unified Health System is on the agenda.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the theoretical-practical articulation of the continuous learning of leadership in undergraduate Nursing. METHODS: Case study carried out at a Northeast federal public university. For data collection, semi-structured interview techniques, workshops, and document analysis were applied. Forty Nursing students participated in the interviews, and 26 in the workshops. The data were submitted to Minayo's operative analysis using the Nvivo software. Peter Senge's concepts were adopted. RESULTS: The students demonstrated a greater understanding of the theme throughout the course and recognized contributing elements to the continuous learning of leadership, such as behavioral characteristics and the use of methodological approaches integrated with theoretical and practical spaces. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The teaching of leadership is relevant in Nursing education, and this has been recognized by students, but still requires changes for it to become operational, with an improvement and a theoretical-practical integration of the cultivated experiences, suitable to the reality of the craft.

OBJECTIVE: To identify possibilities for developing teaching community of practice as a permanent training strategy for teaching in vocational nursing education. METHOD: This is a qualitative action research, carried out with vocational training professors and pedagogical coordination of a Unified Health System Vocational School of Ceará. Data were collected by focus groups and submitted to Bardin's content analysis, supported by the Qualitative Data Analysis Software. RESULTS: Possibilities for the development of teaching community of practice were identified by the perception of the need for teacher training, difficulty in reconciling work and study, and the feasibility of promoting this training in a group. CONCLUSION: Teaching community of practice, in addition to being a viable strategy for nursing professor education, is urgent, as the training of secondary-level workers is crucial for quality of care and consolidation of the Unified Health System.

OBJECTIVES: to know the organizational and pedagogical characteristics of vocational courses in nursing of Unified Health System Vocational Schools in northeastern Brazil. METHODS: this is a qualitative, descriptive study, developed in six schools that offer this course. As a data source, Pedagogical Political Project and Teaching Plans were used to search for information on courses' organizational and pedagogical characteristics through indirect documentation, using three structured scripts. RESULTS: most of the characteristics of the courses are convergent between schools, but pedagogical characterization items do not exist, presenting themselves as fragility regarding the outline of such normative characteristics. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: the characterization of the courses demonstrates the schools' commitment to training professionals aiming at quality of healthcare/nursing in/for the Unified Health System. However, the weakness found in the documents emerged as a challenge to be overcome, in order to better subsidize teaching and learning and qualify training.

OBJECTIVES: to synthesize scientific evidence on nurses' strategies and competencies in men's health care. METHODS: an integrative review carried out in seven databases, with a time frame from 2009 to 2019, using the descriptors "men's health", "professional competence", "nursing", "nursing care" and "male" in Portuguese and in English. RESULTS: ten articles were selected, in which it was demonstrated that nursing professionals develop their professional practices with regard to men's health care, in convergence with the general skills of the profession. The most used are health care; decision-making; Communication; administration; management; continuing education and leadership, consecutively. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: professionals' efforts to strengthen health actions, aimed at male needs, in accordance with the general skills of the profession and the principles and guidelines of the Brazilian National Policy for Comprehensive Care to Men's Health.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze nursing education in the Technical Schools of the Unified Health System in the Northeastern region of Brazil. METHOD: A documentary study with a qualitative approach, having its locus as Technical Schools of the Unified Health System in the Northeast Region which offer the technical course in nursing. Data sources were the Pedagogical Political Projects of the school and the Teaching Plans of the referred courses, and three structured scripts on the pedagogical aspects of training were used as instruments. The systematization/data analysis was based on thematic content analysis. RESULTS: Technical training in nursing occurs through: an integrative approach, being considered a pedagogical trend; problematizing approach, used as a methodological way for teaching-learning; and qualitative assessment, enhancing the scope of professional skills. CONCLUSION: The training in focus points to the commitment to the Unified Health System and professional excellence, as it strengthens the integration between teaching-service-community, encourages student proactivity and indicates teaching-learning in the demands of the population and the public health system, and enhances the acquiring and improving professional skills.
