BACKGROUND: Epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) recommended for the patients with subsolid nodule in early lung cancer stage is not routinely. The clinical value and impact in patients with EGFR mutation on survival outcomes is further needed to be elucidated to decide whether the application of EGFR-TKIs was appropriate in early lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) stage appearing as subsolid nodules. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The inclusion of patients exhibiting clinical staging of IA-IIB subsolid nodules. Clinical information, computed tomography (CT) features before surgical resection and pathological characteristics including tertiary lymphoid structures of the tumors were recorded for further exploration of correlation with EGFR mutation and prognosis. RESULTS: Finally, 325 patients were enrolled into this study, with an average age of 56.8 ± 9.8 years. There are 173 patients (53.2%) harboring EGFR mutation. Logistic regression model analysis showed that female (OR = 1.944, p = 0.015), mix ground glass nodule (OR = 2.071, p = 0.003, bubble-like lucency (OR = 1.991, p = 0.003) were significant risk factors of EGFR mutations. Additionally, EGFR mutations were negatively correlated with TLS presence and density. Prognosis analysis showed that the presence of TLS was associated with better recurrence-free survival (RFS)(p = 0.03) while EGFR mutations were associated with worse RFS(p = 0.01). The RFS in patients with TLS was considerably excel those without TLS within EGFR wild type group(p = 0.018). Multivariate analyses confirmed that EGFR mutation was an independent prognostic predictor for RFS (HR = 3.205, p = 0.037). CONCLUSIONS: In early-phase LUADs, subsolid nodules with EGFR mutation had specific clinical and radiological signatures. EGFR mutation was associated with worse survival outcomes and negatively correlated with TLS, which might weaken the positive impact of TLS on prognosis. Highly attention should be paid to the use of EGFR-TKI for further treatment as agents in early LUAD patients who carrying EGFR mutation.

Cryptococcus gattii (Cg) is a facultative intracellular pathogen that can replicate and disseminate in mammalian macrophages, causing life-threatening cryptococcosis in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised individuals. Cryptococcus-macrophage interactions are crucial for cryptococcosis prognosis. However, the relationship between Cg pathogenicity and phagocytosis by macrophages has not yet been investigated in depth. In this study, a series of in vitro and in vivo experiments were conducted to investigate the interaction between macrophages and Cg. Flow cytometry was used to detect the phagocytic phenotypes of the Cg strains within macrophages. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and immunofluorescence were used to observe phagocytosis and proliferation, respectively. Survival and lung fungal burden tests were also performed. Our results show that Cg cells display different phagocytosis phenotypes, which are independent of the molecular type. Within macrophages, the high phagocytosis phenotype (HP) strains obtain higher intracellular proliferation than the low phagocytosis phenotype (LP) strains. At the early stage of infection in vivo, HP-inducing permissive granulomas within the lungs seldom limit the dissemination of cryptococci. In addition, HP strains could inhibit the formation of M1-type macrophages, proliferate intracellularly and disseminate extracellularly, and cause hypoxia induced by mucus and acidic polysaccharide accumulation in pulmonary alveoli much earlier than LP strains in vivo. Our work reveals that Cg displays diverse interactions with macrophages, which may enhance our understanding of the pathogenicity of this life-threatening pathogen.

Luminescent metal halides have been exploited as a new class of X-ray scintillators for security checks, nondestructive inspection, and medical imaging. However, the charge traps and hydrolysis vulnerability are always detrimental to the three-dimensional ionic structural scintillators. Here, the two zero-dimensional organic-manganese(II) halide coordination complexes 1-Cl and 2-Br were synthesized for improvements in X-ray scintillation. The introduction of a polarized phosphine oxide can help to increase the stabilities, especially the self-absorption-free merits of these Mn-based hybrids. The X-ray dosage rate detection limits reached up to 3.90 and 0.81 µGyair/s for 1-Cl and 2-Br, respectively, superior to the medical diagnostic standard of 5.50 µGyair/s. The fabricated scintillation films were applied to radioactive imaging with high spatial resolutions of 8.0 and 10.0 lp/mm, respectively, holding promise for use in diagnostic X-ray medical imaging.

The study of facile-synthesis and low-cost X-ray scintillators with high light yield, low detection limit and high X-ray imaging resolution plays a vital role in medical and industrial imaging fields. However, the optimal balance between X-ray absorption, decay lifetime and excitonic utilization efficiency of scintillators to achieve high-resolution imaging is extremely difficult due to the inherent contradiction. Here two thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF)-actived coinage-metal clusters M6 S6 L6 (M=Ag or Cu) were synthesized by simple solvothermal reaction, where the cooperation of heavy atom-rich character and TADF mechanism supports strong X-ray absorption and rapid luminescent collection of excitons. Excitingly, Ag6 S6 L6 (SC-Ag) displays a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 91.6 % and scintillating light yield of 17420 photons MeV-1 , as well as a low detection limit of 208.65 nGy s-1 that is 26 times lower than the medical standard (5.5 µGy s-1 ). More importantly, a high X-ray imaging resolution of 16 lp/mm based on SC-Ag screen is demonstrated. Besides, rigid core skeleton reinforced by metallophilicity endows clusters M6 S6 L6 strong resistance to humidity and radiation. This work provides a new view for the design of efficient scintillators and opens the research door for silver clusters in scintillation application.

Anisotropic charge transport plays a pivotal role in clarifying the conductivity mechanism in direct X-ray detection to improve the detection sensitivity. However, the anisotropic photoelectric effect of semiconductive single crystal responsive to X-ray is still lacking of theoretical and experimental proof. The semiconductive coordination polymers (CPs) with designable structures, adjustable functions, and high crystallinity provide a suitable platform for exploring the anisotropic conductive mechanism. Here,the study first reveals a 1D conductive transmission path for direct X-ray detection from the perspective of structural chemistry. The semiconductive copper(II)-based CP 1 single crystal detector exhibits unique anisotropic X-ray detection performance. Along the 1D π-π stacking direction, the single crystal device (1-SC-a) shows a superior sensitivity of 2697.15 µCGyair -1  cm-2 and a low detection limit of 1.02 µGyair  s-1 among CPs-based X-ray detectors. This study provides beneficial guidance and deep insight for designing high-performance CP-based X-ray detectors.

PURPOSE: Osthole possesses anti-tumor activities. However, whether osthole can have a radiosensitization effect on hepatic cancer remains unclear. Here, an HCC-LM3 cells-inoculated subcutaneous transplanted tumor was adopted to explore the effect of osthole. METHODS: The tumor-bearing mice were treated with 100 mg/kg osthole for 12 days, 4 Gy irradiation twice, or their combination. The tumor volume and weight, lactic acid content, glycolytic enzyme activities, and protein expression of glycogen synthase kinase 3ß (GSK-3ß), p­GSK-3ß, mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), p­mTOR, AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), p­AMPK, glucose transporter 1/3, and pyruvate kinase M2 were determined. The GSK-3ß-overexpressed HCC-LM3 or SK-Hep­1 cell models were also adopted to verify the effects of osthole on expression of these proteins. RESULTS: The tumor volume and weight, lactic acid content, and glycolytic enzyme activities in tumor tissues were lower in the osthole + radiation group than in the radiation group. Moreover, osthole could reverse the radiation-induced increments of p­GSK-3ß/GSK-3ß and p­mTOR/mTOR protein ratios and the expression of glucose transporter 1/3 and pyruvate kinase M2 proteins in tumor tissues, and increase the protein ratio of p­AMPK/AMPK. The effects of osthole on these glycolysis-related proteins were also observed in GSK-3ß-overexpressed HCC-LM3 or SK-Hep­1 cell models. CONCLUSION: Osthole has a radiosensitizing effect on subcutaneous transplanted hepatocellular carcinoma, and its mechanism may be related to inhibition of GSK-3ß/AMPK/mTOR pathway-controlled glycolysis.

BACKGROUND: With the application of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in cancer treatment, more and more attention has been paid to checkpoint inhibitor-related pneumonitis (CIP), which requires a better understanding of its clinical characteristics and therapeutic effects. METHODS: The clinical and imaging data of 704 patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who received immunotherapy were analyzed retrospectively; the clinical characteristics of CIP were summarized, and the therapeutic regimens and effects of the patients were summarized. RESULTS: 36 CIP patients were included in the research. The most common clinical symptoms were cough, shortness of breath and fever. The CT manifestations were summarized as follows: Organizing pneumonia (OP) in 14 cases (38.9%), nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) in 14 cases (38.9%), hypersensitiviy pneumonitis(HP) in 2 cases (6.3%), diffuse alveolar damage in 1 case (3.1%) and atypical imaging manifestations in 5 cases (13.9%). 35 cases received glucocorticoid therapy, 6 patients were treated with gamma globulin and 1 patient was treated with tocilizumab. There were no deaths in CIP G1-2 patients and 7 deaths occured in CIP G3-4 patients. 4 patients were treated again with ICIs. CONCLUSION: We found that glucocorticoid 1-2 mg/kg was effective for most patients with moderate to severe CIP, and a few patients with hormone insensitivity needed early immunosuppressive therapy. A few patients can be rechallenged with ICIs, but CIP recurrence needs to be closely monitored.

BACKGROUND: Human adenovirus (HAdV) infection outbreak causes community-acquired pneumonia. Cellular immune dysfunction and hypercytokinemia play important roles in the pathogenesis of adenovirus respiratory infection. Some soluble factors in peripheral blood can assist in judging the virus-induced disease severity. The expression levels of inflammatory cytokines differ among patients with different disease severity. However, whether and how HAdV-7 infection influences the composition of blood immune cells and serum cytokine levels in patients at different disease stages, as well as the diagnosis values of these parameters, have rarely been intensively studied. We aimed to investigate lymphocytes profiles and cytokines levels in blood of patients at different disease stages upon human adenovirus type 7 (HAdV-7) infections, and explored the diagnosis values of the investigated parameters. METHODS: Patients from two outbreaks of HAdV-7 in military of China were categorized into upper respiratory infection (URI) group, common pneumonia (CP) group and severe pneumonia (SP) group according to disease severity. Peripheral blood samples were subjected to routine laboratory tests, while flow cytometry and ELISA were used to measure the lymphocyte subsets and cytokines in blood, respectively. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were performed to examine the diagnostic of these blood parameters. RESULTS: Signs of imbalanced lymphocytes composition and hypercytokinemia were observed in HAdV-7-infected patients. The percentages of CD3+ T cells and NK cells were significantly decreased along with the aggravation of the disease, particularly for NK cells and CD4+ T cells. The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) increased significantly in patients with more severe disease. In addition, the levels of serum CXCL10, IL-2 and TNF-α were positively correlated with disease severity, while reduced levels of IFN-γ and IL-10 were found in SP patients. Furthermore, analysis of ROC showed that multiple parameters including the percentage of blood CD3+ cells and serum CXCL10 level could predict the progression of HAdV-7 infection. CONCLUSION: Imbalance of immune state with hypercytokinemia occurred during HAdV-7 infection. The percentages of blood immune cells such as CD3+ T cells and the levels of serum cytokines such as CXCL10 showed potential diagnosis values in HAdV-7 infection.

Deletional α-thalassemia is characterized by reduced hemoglobin A2 and involves the deletion of a few nucleotides, which is a rare hereditary disease. However, the detection of rare mutations using commonly used genetic tests is highly challenging. In the present study, next-generation sequencing (NGS) was used to identify a novel 7-bp deletion α-thalassemia in one individual from a Chinese family. Hematological parameters of the family members were determined using an automated cell counter, and hemoglobin electrophoresis was performed using a capillary electrophoresis system. Subsequently, NGS was performed on the genomic DNA of the patient and her family members. The 7-bp deletion (named Hb Honghe [HBA1: c.401_407delGCACCGT]) of α-thalassemia in the α-globin gene was confirmed using Sanger sequencing. The patient's father was also a heterozygous carrier of HBA1: c.401_407delGCACCGT deletion, but not her mother or sister. The application of the combined molecular approach is essential for the accurate diagnosis of rare thalassemia. This study reports a novel case of α- thalassemia. The characterization of the mutation might provide new insights into genetic counseling and accurate diagnosis of thalassemia.

OBJECTIVES: There are increasing numbers of studies of pleural tags (PTs). The purpose of this case series was to classify the PTs in patients with peripheral pulmonary adenocarcinoma based on radiologic-pathologic comparison and to study the prognosis. METHODS: The clinical, imaging, pathological and prognostic data of 161 patients with peripheral pulmonary adenocarcinoma in three hospitals were analyzed retrospectively. We classified PTs using computed tomography (CT) for pathologic comparison. RESULTS: According to the relationship between tumors and pleural on CT images, PTs were classified into four types: type 1, one or more linear pleural tag; type 2, one or more linear pleural tag with soft tissue component at the pleural end; type 3, one soft tissue cord-like pleural tag; type 4, directly abutting the visceral pleura, pulling or pushing the visceral pleura. In these PTs, the incidence of visceral pleural invasion (VPI) was high in type 2 (46.88%) and type 3 (56.41%) of PTs. Our prognostic analysis showed that micropapillary or solid histological subtype (HR = 5.766, 95% CI: 1.435-23.159, P = 0.014) and type 3 of PTs (HR = 11.058, 95% CI: 1.349-90.623, P = 0.025) were two independent risk factors for tumor progression. CONCLUSIONS: PT is a risk factor for poor prognosis in patients with peripheral pulmonary adenocarcinoma, the presence of which on CT images can remind us to provide patients with a more reasonable treatment.

Osthole is a natural product that has an inhibitory effect on liver cancer, but its effect on the sensitivity of liver cancer to sorafenib is poorly understood. Here, we investigated the effect of osthole and possible sensitization mechanisms. Our results showed that the combination of 2.5 µM sorafenib and 10 µM osthole had significantly synergistic inhibitory effects on proliferation, colony formation, and migration of HCCLM3, sorafenib-resistant HCCLM3 (HCCLM3-SR), and SK-Hep-1 cells. After treatment of HCCLM3 cells-inoculated subcutaneous xenotransplanted tumor mice with 100 mg/kg osthole, 70 mg/kg sorafenib or their combination for 24 day, the tumor volume, tumor weight, and tumor weight coefficient were significantly lower in the osthole + sorafenib group than in the sorafenib group. Compared with the control group, the total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein-cholesterol contents in serum and tumor tissue were significantly decreased in the osthole or osthole + sorafenib groups, the sterol regulatory element binding protein (SREBP)-2c, 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR), and low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) protein expressions in tumor tissue were significantly downregulated as well. In conclusion, osthole can increase the sensitivity of liver cancer to sorafenib, and the mechanism is related to the downregulations of SREBP-2c, HMGCR, and LDLR protein expressions and subsequent inhibition of cholesterol metabolism.

A copper-catalyzed three-component reaction of ynones, aryl iodides, and elemental sulfur via a syn-addition process is established. The reaction features operational practicality, broad substrate scope, and readily accessible scale-up synthesis by affording a series of (Z)-1,2-bis(arylthio)alkenes in good to excellent yield. Moreover, benzo[b][1,4]dithiines can be also constructed efficiently by using 1,2-diiodobenzene as the coupling partner.

Melatonin is a hormone synthesized in the pineal gland and has widespread physiological and pharmacological functions. Moreover, it can activate protective receptor-dependent processes. These processes can prevent tissue carcinogenesis and inhibit malignant tumor progression and metastasis. Therefore, we investigated the regulatory effects of melatonin on dysregulated circular RNAs in human lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cells. In this study, we treated LUAD cells with melatonin and measured the expression of hsa_circ_0017109, miR-135b-3p, and TOX3 by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Colony formation and cell counting kit-8 assays were used to determine cell proliferation. The wound-healing assay and Transwell experiment were carried out to evaluate the migration potential and invasive capacity of LUAD cells. Also, cell apoptosis was detected using a cell apoptosis kit, and protein production was identified by Western blot. It was suggested that melatonin could inhibit LUAD progression in vivo and in vitro, and the role of TOX3 in this process was explored. Additionally, hsa_circ_0017109 was found to sponge miR-135b-3p, a downstream factor of circ_0017109, which was demonstrated to target TOX3 in LUAD cells and could promote the Hippo pathway and epithelial-mesenchymal transition pathway. To summarize, we demonstrated that melatonin decreases the expression of circ_0017109 and suppresses the non-small-cell lung cancer cell migration, invasion, and proliferation through decreasing TOX3 expression via direct activation of miR-135b-3p.

RESUMO

Two examples of efficient cathode-ray scintillation coordination polymers with good stability at high voltage were prepared by conjugating luminescent groups with d10 metal ions. The synergistic effect of inorganic metal and organic ligand suppresses the self-quenching of the conjugated luminescent groups and enhances the scintillation performance. This work provides new ideas for the design of new field-emission displays and cathode-ray scintillation materials.

BACKGROUND: Part-solid nodules (PSNs) have gradually shifted to defining special clinical subtypes. Commonly, the solid portions of PSNs show various radiological morphologies, of which the corresponding pathological basis and prognosis are unclear. We conducted a radiological-pathological evaluation to determine the histopathologic basis of different consolidation radiographic morphologies related to prognosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cohort of 275 patients with a surgical pathological diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma were enrolled. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) images of the PSNs were recorded and assessed. A panel of 103 patients with complete pathological specimens was selected to examine the radiological-pathological associations, and follow-up was performed to identify the prognosis. RESULTS: Of the 275 patients, punctate consolidation was observed radiologically in 43/275 (15.7%), stripe consolidation in 68/275 (24.7%), and irregular consolidation in 164/275 (59.6%) patients. The radiological morphology of the solid components was significantly associated with the histopathological subtypes (P < 0.001). Visual punctate solid components on CT correlated with tertiary lymphoid structures, stripe solid components on CT correlated with fibrotic scar, and irregular solid components on CT correlated with invasion. PSNs with regular consolidation had a better prognosis than those with irregular consolidation. CONCLUSION: Radiological morphology of solid components in PSNs can indicate the pathological basis and is valuable for prognosis. RESUMO

Cryptococcus gattii is a kind of basidiomycetous yeast, which grows in human and animal hosts. C. gattii has four distinct genomes, VGI/AFLP4, VGII/AFLP6, VGIII/AFLP5, and VGIV/AFLP7. The virulence of C. gattii is closely associated with genotype and related stress-signaling pathways, but the pathogenic mechanism of C. gattii has not been fully identified. With the development of genomics and transcriptomics, the relationship among genes, regulatory mechanisms, virulence, and treatment is gradually being recognized. In this review, to better understand how C. gattii causes disease and to characterize hypervirulent C. gattii strains, we summarize the current understanding of C. gattii genotypes, phenotypes, virulence, and the regulatory mechanisms.

BACKGROUND: Stevioside is a natural diterpenoid compound that possesses anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive, and renal protective effects, but its effect on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of renal tubular epithelial cells, an important immune pathological mechanism of renal fibrosis, remains unknown. This study employed the renal proximal tubular cells NRK-52E to investigate the effect of stevioside. METHODS: The LPS-stimulated renal NRK-52E cells were treated with 50, 100, or 200 µM stevioside in the presence or absence of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) antagonist GW9662, the expression levels of intracellular E-cadherin, vimentin, α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), PPARγ, nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) p65, transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1), signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), p-STAT3, Smad2/3, and p-Smad2/3 proteins were detected by Western blot analysis. RESULTS: In LPS-stimulated NRK-52E cells, stevioside treatment could reverse the expressions of EMT-related E-cadherin, vimentin, and α-SMA proteins, increase the expression of PPARγ protein, and decrease the expressions of NF-κB p65, TGF-ß1, p-STAT3, Smad2/3, and p-Smad2/3 proteins, especially in the 200 µM stevioside-treated group. However, these beneficial effects of stevioside were attenuated or canceled by pretreatment with PPARγ antagonist GW9662. CONCLUSIONS: Stevioside can inhibit the LPS-induced EMT via the reductions of NF-κB, TGF-ß1, Smad2/3, p-Smad2/3, and p-STAT3 protein expressions by PPARγ activation in NRK-52E cells, which may provide a pharmacological basis for the potential application of stevioside in the prevention and treatment of renal fibrosis.

Wintercreeper (Euonymus fortunei) is an evergreen shrub, a semi climbing plants with very strong vitality. It can tolerate a broad range of environmental conditions varying from full sun to deep shade. So, wintercreeper is a good groundcover plants and tree species of vertical greening. It is widely used in urban greening in China. In May 2021, severe powdery mildew signs were found on wintercreeper plant in a garden of Luohe cities of Henan province, China. Approximately 40% of leaves on a plant were symptomatic, and about 60% of the plants were infected. Powdery mildew colonies appeared as white spots on the upper surface of the leaf and stem of the plants in the initial stage. Later, mycelial growth was amphigenous, thick, forming irregular white patches, effused to cover the entire leaf surface. At last, leaves turned yellow and senescence. One representative voucher specimen was deposited at the herbarium of Shangqiu Normal University (SQNU), Shangqiu, China, under the accession number of EF02. Conidiophores arising terminally from the mother cell, mostly central, erect, straight, 40.7 to 67.7µm (average 49.1µm) 6.1 to 8.5µm (average 7.5µm) (n=30) composed of 3 to 4 cells and produced conidia singly. Conidia were obovoid-ellipsoid, apex rounded, base subtruncate, ends truncate or subtruncate, long 26.1 to 36.4µm (average 30.7µm) and width 9.9 to 16.0µm (average 11.8µm) (n=30). No chasmothecia were observed. The morphological characteristics and measurements were consistent with those of Erysiphe euonymicola (Braun and Cook 2012). The internal transcribed spacer regions of EF02 were amplified using primers ITS1/ITS4, and sequences directly. The obtained sequence of 648 bp was deposited in GenBank (accession no. OM304857). The isolate (EF02) was 99.83% similarity with E. euonymicola on E. fortunei var. radicans (KM361621 from Korea) (Lee et al. 2015), 99.23% with E. euonymicola on E. fortunei (MT510003 from USA), 99.23% with E. euonymicola on E. japonicus (LC270841and LC270834 from Azerbaijan, AB250228 from Japan ). The domains D1 and D2 of the 28S rDNA obtained 619 bp sequences from the powdery mildew of isolate EF02 with primer NL1/NL4, deposited in GenBank (OM302187). A NCBI BLAST search of the EF02 isolate showed 100% similarity with 28S rDNA sequence of E. euonymicola on E. japonicus (AB250230 from Japan) (Limkaisang et al. 2006), and 28S phylogenetic tree analysis EF02 isolate is located in the same branch as E. euonymicola. The pathogenicity was confirmed by gently pressing the infected leaves onto five healthy plants. Five uninoculated plants served as controls. Ten inoculated and non-inoculated plants were placed in different growth chambers with 14-h photoperiod at 22±2°C and 60% of relative humidity. After 11 to 13 days, powdery mildew colonies developed on inoculated plants. Non-inoculated control plants did not show powdery mildew symptoms. The fungus on inoculated leaves was morphologically identical to that first observed in the field. Although E. euonymi-japonici (synonym E. euonymicola) has been recorded on E. japonicus in China (Li et al. 2011), this is the first report of powdery mildew caused by E. euonymicola on E. fortunei in China. It could become a threat to the widespread planting of wintercreeper, Similar report has been in Korea (Lee, C. K., et al. 2015).

RESUMO

Mycotoxins are highly toxic metabolites produced by fungi that pose a huge threat to human and animal health. Contamination of food and feed with mycotoxins is a worldwide issue, which leads to huge financial losses, annually. Decades of research have developed various approaches to degrade mycotoxins, among which the biological methods have been proved to have great potential and advantages. This review provides an overview on the important advances in the biological removal of mycotoxins over the last decade. Here, we provided further insight into the chemical structures and the toxicity of the main mycotoxins. The innovative strategies including mycotoxin degradation by novel probiotics are summarized in an in-depth discussion on potentialities and limitations. We prospected the promising future for the development of multifunctional approaches using recombinant enzymes and microbial consortia for the simultaneous removal of multiple mycotoxins.

Through the lens of social identity theory, this work aims to investigate the impact of servant leadership on employee resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic and to explore their underlying mechanisms through two types of social identity: organizational identification and professional identity. To test our hypotheses, an online survey was conducted via a large number of 703 employees working in public organizations in southwest China. Results yielded from the structural equation modeling analysis via AMOS (24.0) indicated that the effect of servant leadership on employee resilience was fully mediated by organizational identification and professional identity, respectively. Besides, the association between servant leadership and employee resilience was sequentially mediated from organizational identification to professional identity, and from professional identity to organizational identification. This study provides the first evidence of the predictive effect of servant leadership on employee resilience through organizational identification and professional identity, highlighting the significance of social identity for building and maintaining employees' resilience in coping with challenges posed by COVID-19.
