The design of smart stimuli-responsive photoluminescent materials capable of multi-level encryption and complex information storage is highly sought after in the current information era. Here, a novel adamantyl-capped CsPbBr3 (AD-CsPbBr3 ) perovskite NCs, along with its supramolecular host-guest assembly partner a modified ß-CD (mCD), mCD@AD-CsPbBr3 , are designed and prepared. By dispersing these two materials in different solvents, namely, AD-CsPbBr3 in toluene, mCD@AD-CsPbBr3 in toluene, and mCD@AD-CsPbBr3 in methanol, the three solutions exhibit diverse photoluminescence (PL) turn-on/off or PL discoloration response upon supramolecular stimulus. Based on these responses, a proof-of-principle programmable Multi-Level Photoluminescence Encoding System (MPLES) is established. Three types of four-level and three types of three-level information encoding are achieved by the system. A layer-by-layer four-level information encryption and decryption as well as a two-level encrypted 3D code are successfully achieved.

A highly effective enantioselective monobenzoylation of 1,3-diols has been developed for the synthesis of 1,1-disubstituted tetrahydro-ß-carbolines. The chemistry has been successfully applied to the asymmetric total synthesis of (+)-alstrostine G, which also features a cascade Heck/hemiamination reaction enabling facile construction of the pivotal pentacyclic core.

A series of novel 2-aminopyridine derivatives 1-26 have been designed and synthesized by structural modifications on a lead USP7 inhibitor, GNE6640. All the compounds were evaluated for their USP7 inhibitory activities. The results showed that most of the compounds have good USP7 inhibitory activities at the concentration of 50 µM. Among them, compounds 7, 14 and 21 are the most potential ones from each category with the IC50 values of 7.6 ± 0.1 µM, 17.0 ± 0.2 µM and 11.6 ± 0.5 µM, respectively. Compounds 7 and 21 expressed significant binding interactions with USP7 by surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-based binding assay, but both of them presented moderate antiproliferative activities against HCT116 cells. They could effectively promote MDM2 degradation, p53 stabilization and p21 gene expression in the western blot analysis.

The protective effect of phloridzin (PHL) and its potential mechanism were examined in mice with liver injury induced by isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin (RFP). The mice were randomly divided into normal control group, model group, low (80 mg/kg), medium (160 mg/kg) and high (320 mg/kg) phloridzin-treated groups. After 28 d treatment, blood and liver tissue were collected and analysed. The results revealed that PHL regulated liver function related indicators and reduced the pathological tissue damage, indicating that PHL significantly alleviated the liver injury. Furthermore, the level of CYP450 enzyme, the expression of CYP3A4, CYP2E1, heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) mRNA and protein were inhibited by PHL. These results indicated that PHL exerts a protecting effect against liver injury induced by combination of RFP and INH. The potential mechanisms may be concerned with the activation of Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway containing its key antioxidant enzymes and regulation of CYP3A4 and CYP2E1.

BACKGROUND: The asynchronous filling between superior spikelets (SS) and inferior spikelets (IS) in rice has become a research hotspot. The stagnant development and poor grain filling of IS limit yields and the formation of good quality rice. A large number of studies on this phenomenon have been carried out from the genome, transcriptome and proteome level, indicating that asynchronous filling of SS and IS filling is a complex, but orderly physiological and biochemical process involving changes of a large number of genes, protein expression and modification. However, the analysis of metabolomics differences between SS and IS is rarely reported currently. RESULTS: This study utilized untargeted metabolomics and identified 162 metabolites in rice spikelets. Among them, 17 differential metabolites associated with unsynchronized grain filling between SS and IS, 27 metabolites were related to the stagnant development of IS and 35 metabolites related to the lower maximum grain-filling rate of IS compared with the SS. We found that soluble sugars were an important metabolite during grain filling for SS and IS. Absolute quantification was used to further analyze the dynamic changes of 4 types of soluble sugars (sucrose, fructose, glucose, and trehalose) between SS and IS. The results showed that sucrose and trehalose were closely associated with the dynamic characteristics of grain filling between SS and IS. The application of exogenous sugar showed that trehalose functioned as a key sugar signal during grain filling of IS. Trehalose regulated the expression of genes related to sucrose conversion and starch synthesis, thereby promoting the conversion of sucrose to starch. The difference in the spatiotemporal expression of TPS-2 and TPP-1 between SS and IS was an important reason that led to the asynchronous change in the trehalose content between SS and IS. CONCLUSIONS: The results from this study are helpful for understanding the difference in grain filling between SS and IS at the metabolite level. In addition, the present results can also provide a theoretical basis for the next step of using metabolites to regulate the filling of IS.

A coupling of bromoalkynes with secondary phosphine oxides was developed for the synthesis of alkynylphosphine oxides. This transformation was accomplished under additive-free conditions in acetic anhydride (Ac2O). The reaction could be carried out under mild conditions, and a wide range of secondary phosphine oxides were obtained in good yields.

Characterizing bacterial communities is of great significance for targeted control of bacteria-induced clogging during geothermal water recharge. Based on a series of laboratory-scale percolation experiments, the variations in bacterial community diversity, composition, and structure were investigated during simulated geothermal water recharge using high-throughput sequencing technology. The Chao, Shannon, and Evenness indexes were used to quantify the richness, diversity, and evenness of the bacterial community, respectively. The results show that the richness of the bacterial community initially increased and then decreased in the sand columns during the experiments of geothermal water recharge, while the changes in bacterial diversity and evenness were not apparent. A variety of bacterial phyla were found, among which Proteobacteria was predominant (88.31%), followed by Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Firmicutes (4.23%, 3.44%, and 2.49%). For the non-Proteobacterial phyla, Actinobacteria gradually disappeared while Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes were detected during the percolation experiments. This study implies that, despite the variations in the bacterial community, a core group of bacteria persists during geothermal water recharge, and thus a targeted control of bacteria-induced clogging during geothermal water recharge should be feasible.

The expression of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) in tumor has been used as a biomarker to predict the anti-PD-L1 immunotherapy response. To develop a noninvasive imaging technique to monitor the dynamic changes in PD-L1 expression in colorectal cancer (CRC), we labeled an anti-PD-L1 monoclonal antibody with near-infrared (NIR) dye and tested the ability of the NIR-PD-L1-mAb probe to monitor the PD-L1 expression in CRC-xenografted mice by performing optical imaging. Consistent with the expression levels of PD-L1 protein in three CRC cell lines in vitro by flow cytometry and Western blot analyses, our in vivo imaging showed the highest fluorescence signal of the xenografted tumors in mice bearing SW620 CRC cells, followed by tumors derived from SW480 and HCT8 cell lines. We detected the highest fluorescent intensity of the tumor at 120 hours after injection of NIR-PD-L1-mAb. The highest fluorescence intensity was seen in the tumor, followed by the spleen and the liver in SW620 xenografted mice. In SW480 and HCT8 xenografted mice, however, the highest fluorescent signals were detected in the spleen, followed by the liver and the tumor. Our findings indicate that SW620 cells express a higher level of PD-L1, and the NIR-PD-L1-mAb binding to PD-L1 on the surface of CRC cells was specific. The technique was safe and could provide valuable information on PD-L1 expression of the tumor for development of a therapeutic strategy of personized targeted immunotherapies as well as treatment response of patients with CRC.

BACKGROUND: Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging is a non-invasive functional imaging method used to reflect tumor spatial information, and to provide biological characteristics of tumor progression. The aim of this study was to focus on the application of 18F-fluoromisonidazole (FMISO) PET quantitative parameter of maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) ratio to detect the liver metastatic potential of human colorectal cancer (CRC) in mice. METHODS: Colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) xenograft models were established by injecting tumor cells (LoVo, HT29 and HCT116) into spleen of mice, tumor-bearing xenograft models were established by subcutaneously injecting tumor cells in the right left flank of mice. Wound healing assays were performed to examine the ability of cell migration in vitro. 18F-FMISO uptake in CRC cell lines was measured by cellular uptake assay. 18F-FMISO-based micro-PET imaging of CRLM and tumor-bearing mice was performed and quantified by tumor-to-liver SUVmax ratio. The correlation between the 18F-FMISO SUVmax ratio, liver metastases number, hypoxia-induced factor 1α (HIF-1α) and serum starvation-induced glucose transporter 1 (GLUT-1) was evaluated using Pearson correlation analysis. RESULTS: Compared with HT29 and HCT116, LoVo-CRLM mice had significantly higher liver metastases ratio and shorter median survival time. LoVo cells exhibited stronger migration capacity and higher radiotracer uptake compared with HT29 and HCT116 in in vitro. Moreover, 18F-FMISO SUVmax ratio was significantly higher in both LoVo-CRLM model and LoVo-bearing tumor model compared to models established using HT29 and HCT116. In addition, Pearson correlation analysis revealed a significant correlation between 18F-FMISO SUVmax ratio of CRLM mice and number of liver metastases larger than 0.5 cm, as well as between 18F-FMISO SUVmax ratio and HIF-1α or GLUT-1 expression in tumor-bearing tissues. CONCLUSIONS: 18F-FMISO parameter of SUVmax ratio may provide useful tumor biological information in mice with CRLM, thus allowing for better prediction of CRLM and yielding useful radioactive markers for predicting liver metastasis potential in CRC.

Jamming and spoofing are the two main types of intentional interference for global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. Due to the entirely different signal characteristics they have, a few techniques can deal with them simultaneously. This paper proposes a two-stage interference suppression scheme based on antenna arrays, which can detect and mitigate jamming and spoofing before the despreading of GNSS receivers. First, a subspace projection was adopted to eliminate the high-power jamming signals. The output signal is still a multi-dimensional vector so that the spatial processing technique can be used in the next stage. Then, the cyclostationarity of GNSS signals were fully excavated to reduce or even remove the noise component in the spatial correlation matrix. Thus, the signal subspace, including information of the power and the directions-of-arrival (DOAs) of the GNSS signals, can be obtained. Next, a novel cyclic correlation eigenvalue test (CCET) algorithm was proposed to detect the presence of a spoofing attack, and the cyclic music signal classification (Cyclic MUSIC) algorithm was employed to estimate the DOAs of all the navigation signals. Finally, this study employed a subspace projection again to eliminate the spoofing signals and provide a higher gain for authentic satellite signals through beamforming. All the operations were performed on the raw digital baseband signal so that they did not introduce additional computational complexity to the GNSS receiver. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme not only suppresses jamming and spoofing effectively but also maximizes the power of the authentic signals. Nonetheless, the estimated DOA of spoofing signals may be helpful for the interference source positioning in some applications.

In this study, mesoporous carbon hollow microspheres (PCHMs) with tunable textural properties have been prepared through a facile hard template etching method. The PCHMs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, Raman spectra, and nitrogen adsorption and desorption systems. Uniform PCHMs with shell thickness ranging from 23 nm to 55 nm are realized. PCHMs with different textural properties can regulate dielectric and electromagnetic (EM) wave absorption effectively. The composite of paraffin wax mixed with 10 wt% PCHMs (the shell thickness of PCHMs is 35 nm) exhibits a minimum coefficient value of -53.8 dB at 8.8 GHz, with a thickness of 3.4 mm. Besides, it is remarkable that the effective absorption bandwidth covers all the X band with as low as a 10 wt% filler ratio, compared with other spherical EM wave absorbers. The excellent EM wave absorption capability of PCHMs can be ascribed to the better impendence matching and strong EM wave attenuation constant based on tunable textural properties. Our results provide a facile strategy to tune dielectric properties of spherical carbon absorbers based on textural properties, and can be extended to other spherical absorbers.

BACKGROUND: Positron emission tomography (PET) is a noninvasive method to characterize different metabolic activities of tumors, providing information for staging, prognosis, and therapeutic response of patients with cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of 18F-fludeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) and 3'-deoxy-3'-18F-fluorothymidine (18F-FLT) PET in predicting tumor biological characteristics of colorectal cancer liver metastasis. METHODS: The uptake rate of 18F-FDG and 18F-FLT in SW480 and SW620 cells was measured via an in vitro cell uptake assay. The region of interest was drawn over the tumor and liver to calculate the maximum standardized uptake value ratio (tumor/liver) from PET images in liver metastasis model. The correlation between tracer uptake in liver metastases and VEGF, Ki67 and CD44 expression was evaluated by linear regression. RESULTS: Compared to SW620 tumor-bearing mice, SW480 tumor-bearing mice presented a higher rate of liver metastases. The uptake rate of 18F-FDG in SW480 and SW620 cells was 6.07% ±â€¯1.19% and 2.82% ±â€¯0.15%, respectively (t = 4.69, P = 0.04); that of 18F-FLT was 24.81% ±â€¯0.45% and 15.57% ±â€¯0.66%, respectively (t = 19.99, P < 0.001). Micro-PET scan showed that all parameters of FLT were significantly higher in SW480 tumors than those in SW620 tumors. A moderate relationship was detected between metastases in the liver and 18F-FLT uptake in primary tumors (r = 0.73, P = 0.0019). 18F-FLT uptake was also positively correlated with the expression of CD44 in liver metastases (r = 0.81, P = 0.0049). CONCLUSIONS: The uptake of 18F-FLT in metastatic tumor reflects different biological behaviors of colon cancer cells. 18F-FLT can be used to evaluate the metastatic potential of colorectal cancer in nude mice.

BACKGROUND: The various combination of multiphase enhancement multislice spiral CT (MSCT) makes the diagnosis of a small hepatocellular carcinoma (sHCC) on the background of liver cirrhosis possible. This study was to explore whether the combination of MSCT enhancement scan and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level could increase the diagnostic efficiency for sHCC. METHODS: This study included 35 sHCC patients and 52 cirrhotic patients without image evidence of HCC as a control group. The diagnoses were made by three radiologists employing a 5-point rating scale, with postoperative pathologic results as the gold standard. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to evaluate the diagnostic value of the three MSCT combination modes (arterial phase+portal-venous phase, arterial phase+delayed phase, arterial phase+portal-venous phase+delayed phase) and AFP levels for sHCC on the background of liver cirrhosis. RESULTS: The area under ROC curve (AUC), sensitivity, and specificity of the combination of arterial phase+portal-venous phase+delayed phase were 0.93, 93%, and 82%, respectively. The average AUC of the arterial phase+portal-venous phase+delayed phase combination was significantly greater than that of the arterial phase+portal-venous phase (AUC=0.84, P=0.01) and arterial phase+delayed phase (AUC=0.85, P=0.03). Arterial phase+portal-venous phase had a smaller AUC (0.84) than arterial phase+delayed phase (0.85), but the difference was insignificant (P=0.15). After combining MSCT enhancement scan with AFP, the AUC, sensitivity, and specificity were 0.95, 94%, and 83%, respectively, indicating a greatly increased diagnostic efficiency for sHCC. CONCLUSIONS: The combination of AFP and 3 phases MSCT enhancement scan could increase the diagnostic efficiency for sHCC on the background of liver cirrhosis. The application of ROC curve analysis has provided a new method and reference in HCC diagnosis.

The accurate monitoring of blade vibration under operating conditions is essential in turbo-machinery testing. Blade tip timing (BTT) is a promising non-contact technique for the measurement of blade vibrations. However, the BTT sampling data are inherently under-sampled and contaminated with several measurement uncertainties. How to recover frequency spectra of blade vibrations though processing these under-sampled biased signals is a bottleneck problem. A novel method of BTT signal processing for alleviating measurement uncertainties in recovery of multi-mode blade vibration frequency spectrum is proposed in this paper. The method can be divided into four phases. First, a single measurement vector model is built by exploiting that the blade vibration signals are sparse in frequency spectra. Secondly, the uniqueness of the nonnegative sparse solution is studied to achieve the vibration frequency spectrum. Thirdly, typical sources of BTT measurement uncertainties are quantitatively analyzed. Finally, an improved vibration frequency spectra recovery method is proposed to get a guaranteed level of sparse solution when measurement results are biased. Simulations and experiments are performed to prove the feasibility of the proposed method. The most outstanding advantage is that this method can prevent the recovered multi-mode vibration spectra from being affected by BTT measurement uncertainties without increasing the probe number.

Nowadays, software-defined radio (SDR) has become a common approach to evaluate new algorithms. However, in the field of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) adaptive array anti-jamming, previous work has been limited due to the high computational power demanded by adaptive algorithms, and often lack flexibility and configurability. In this paper, the design and implementation of an SDR-based real-time testbed for GNSS adaptive array anti-jamming accelerated by a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) are documented. This testbed highlights itself as a feature-rich and extendible platform with great flexibility and configurability, as well as high computational performance. Both Space-Time Adaptive Processing (STAP) and Space-Frequency Adaptive Processing (SFAP) are implemented with a wide range of parameters. Raw data from as many as eight antenna elements can be processed in real-time in either an adaptive nulling or beamforming mode. To fully take advantage of the parallelism resource provided by the GPU, a batched method in programming is proposed. Tests and experiments are conducted to evaluate both the computational and anti-jamming performance. This platform can be used for research and prototyping, as well as a real product in certain applications.

Microwave absorption materials (MAMs) are originally developed for military purposes, but have since evolved into versatile materials with promising applications in modern technologies, including household use. Despite significant progress in bench-side research over the past decade, MAMs remain limited in their scope and have yet to be widely adopted. This review explores the history of MAMs from first-generation coatings to second-generation functional absorbers, identifies bottlenecks hindering their maturation. It also presents potential solutions such as exploring broader spatial scales, advanced characterization, introducing liquid media, utilizing novel toolbox (machine learning, ML), and proximity of lab to end-user. Additionally, it meticulously presents compelling applications of MAMs in medicine, mechanics, energy, optics, and sensing, which go beyond absorption efficiency, along with their current development status and prospects. This interdisciplinary research direction differs from previous research which primarily focused on meeting traditional requirements (i.e., thin, lightweight, wide, and strong), and can be defined as the next generation of smart absorbers. Ultimately, the effective utilization of ubiquitous electromagnetic (EM) waves, aided by third-generation MAMs, should be better aligned with future expectations.

Textile-based wearable electronics have attracted intensive research interest due to their excellent flexibility and breathability inherent in the unique three-dimensional porous structures. However, one of the challenges lies in achieving highly conductive patterns with high precision and robustness without sacrificing the wearing comfort. Herein, we developed a universal and robust in-textile photolithography strategy for precise and uniform metal patterning on porous textile architectures. The as-fabricated metal patterns realized a high precision of sub-100 µm with desirable mechanical stability, washability, and permeability. Moreover, such controllable coating permeated inside the textile scaffold contributes to the significant performance enhancement of miniaturized devices and electronics integration through both sides of the textiles. As a proof-of-concept, a fully integrated in-textiles system for multiplexed sweat sensing was demonstrated. The proposed method opens up new possibilities for constructing multifunctional textile-based flexible electronics with reliable performance and wearing comfort.

Maintaining wound moisture and monitoring of infection are crucial aspects of chronic wound treatment. The development of a pH-sensitive functional hydrogel dressing is an effective approach to monitor, protect, and facilitate wound healing. In this study, beet red pigment extract (BRPE) served as a native and efficient pH indicator by being grafted into silane-modified bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) to prepare a pH-sensitive wound hydrogel dressing (S-g-BNC/BRPE). FTIR confirmed the successful grafting of BRPE into the BNC matrix. The S-g-BNC/BRPE showed superior mechanical properties (0.25 MPa), swelling rate (1251 % on average), and hydrophilic properties (contact angle 21.83°). The composite exhibited a notable color change as the pH changed between 4.0 and 9.0. It appeared purple-red when the pH ranged from 4.0 to 6.0, and appeared light pink at pH 7.0 and 7.4, and appeared ginger-yellow at pH 8.0 and 9.0. Subsequently, the antioxidant activity and cytotoxicity of the composite was evaluated, its DPPH·, ABTS+, ·OH scavenging rates were 32.33 %, 19.31 %, and 30.06 %, respectively, and the cytotoxicity test clearly demonstrated the safety of the dressing. The antioxidant hydrogel dressing, fabricated with a cost-effective and easy method, not only showed excellent biocompatibility and dressing performance but could also indicated the wound state based on pH changes.

Tunable fiber lasers have the advantages of good beam quality, high integration, and adjustable output wavelength, and they are widely used in fields such as optical fiber communication and optical fiber sensing. The fiber filter is one of the key components of tunable fiber lasers. Among the various filters currently used, multimode interference filters have the advantages of simple structure, convenient implementation, flexible tuning methods, and convenient spectral range design. The structures of multimode interference filters based on multimode fibers, no-core fibers, multi-core fibers, tapered fibers, and other special fibers are introduced in this paper. The working principles and tuning methods are analyzed and the research progress of tunable fiber lasers based on these filters is summarized. Finally, the development trend of tunable fiber lasers based on multimode interference filters is discussed. The rapid development and applications of multimode interference filters can help improve the performance of continuous and pulse lasers as well as promote the practicality of tunable fiber lasers.

High-performance microwave absorption coatings are critically required in the stealth defense system of military platforms. Regrettably, just optimizing the property but neglecting the application feasibility seriously inhibits its practical application in the field of microwave absorption. To face this challenge, the Ti4O7/carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/Al2O3 coatings were successfully fabricated by a plasma-sprayed method. For the different oxygen vacancy-induced Ti4O7 coatings, the enhanced ε' and ε'' values in the frequency of X-band is due to the synergistic manipulation of conductive path, defects and interfacial polarization. The optimal reflection loss of Ti4O7/CNTs/Al2O3 sample (0 wt% CNTs) is -55.7 dB (8.9 GHz of 2.41 mm), while the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness of Ti4O7/CNTs/Al2O3 sample (5 wt% CNTs) increases to 20.5 dB as the enhanced electrical conductivity. In special, the flexural strength of Ti4O7/CNTs/Al2O3 coatings first increases from 48.59 MPa (0 wt% CNTs) to 67.13 MPa (2.5 wt% CNTs) and then decreases to 38.31 MPa (5 wt% CNTs), demonstrating that an appropriate amount of CNTs evenly dispersed in the Ti4O7/Al2O3 ceramic matrix can effectively play the role of CNTs as the strengthening phase of the coatings. This research will provide a strategy by tailoring synergistic effect of dielectric loss and conduction loss for oxygen vacancy-mediated Ti4O7 material to broaden the application of absorbing or shielding ceramic coatings.
