RESUMO

To expand the market capacity of p-diethylbenzene (PDEB), core-shell zeolite (TS-1@MCM-48) is designed as a catalyst for PDEB oxidation. TS-1@MCM-48 catalyst is synthesized by in-situ crystallization method and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), N2 adsorption-desorption, in-situ electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance (29Si MAS-NMR). Oxidation of PDEB by H2O2 was investigated systematically in liquid phase. The conversion of PDEB over TS-1@MCM-48 was 28.1 % and the total selectivity was 72.6 %, where the selectivity of EAP (p-ethylacetophenone) and EPEA (4-ethyl-α-methylbenzyl alcohol) was 28.6 % and 44.0 %, respectively. Compared with TS-1 and MCM-48 zeolite, the conversion rate of reactants and the selectivity of products have been significantly improved. The catalytic performance of TS-1@MCM-48 is derived from its well-crystallized microporous core and mesoporous shell with regular channels, which make active sites of TS-1 zeolite in the catalyst be fully utilized and mass transfer resistance be largely reduced. Further through theoretical calculation, we propose that the oxidation of PDEB is the result of the combination and mutual transformation of free radical process and carbocation process. Core-shell structure ensures the conversion rate of raw materials and improves the selectivity of products.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To assess the clinical evidence defining the optimal combination of arthroscopic suture technique and platelet-rich products (PRP), and application for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR). METHODS: All level of evidence (LOE) I randomized controlled trials (RCT) focusing on arthroscopic suture technique and/or PRP application in ARCR were included. The exclusion criteria were LOE II or worse, studies with other interventions, studies reported none of the predetermined clinical outcomes; studies unable to extract any precise data; studies from the same patient group of included studies. A pair-wise meta-analysis and Bayesian network analysis were performed on each comparison. The intervention options were ranked by Bayesian network analysis. RESULTS: 27 studies comprising 1,947 individuals met the inclusion criteria. The application of transosseous equivalent/suture bridge repair (SB) with PRP (SB+PRP) significantly reduced retear rate (risk ratio [RR], 0.29; 95% confidence interval [CI], [0.15, 0.55].) and increased Constant-Murley score (mean difference, 1.90; 95% CI, [0.14, 3.74]), compared to SB repair. Single-row repair (SR) with PRP usage (SR+PRP) significantly reduced retear rate (RR, 0.27; 95% CI, [0.12, 0.55]) and pain visual analog scale (VAS) (mean difference: -0.84; 95% CI [-1.39, -0.46].), increased University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) shoulder score (mean difference: 1.48; 95% CI [0.50, 2.58]) and Constant-Murley score (mean difference: 4.53; 95% CI [2.65, 6.38]), compared to SR repair. The ranking for outcomes demonstrated SB+PRP resulted in the best retear rate, UCLA shoulder score, with the second-best postoperative pain, Constant-Murley score, while SR+PRP resulted in the best postoperative pain, Constant-Murley score, with the second-best retear rate and UCLA score. CONCLUSION: Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair utilizing SB+PRP yields optimal retear rate and UCLA shoulder score, with the second-best postoperative pain and Constant-Murley shoulder outcome score, while SR+PRP yields the best in these two parameters. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level I, Bayesian network analysis of level I RCT.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Osteosarcoma is the third most common cancer in adolescence and the first common primary malignant tumor of bone. The long-term prognosis of osteosarcoma still remains unsatisfactory in the past decades. Therefore, development of novel therapeutic agents which are effective to osteosarcoma and are safe to normal tissue simultaneously is quite essential and urgent. METHODS: Firstly, MTT assay, cell colony formation assay, cell migration and invasion assays were conducted to evaluate the inhibitory effects of imperatorin towards human osteosarcoma cells. RNA-sequence assay and bioinformatic analysis were then performed to filtrate and assume the potential imperatorin-induced cell death route and signaling pathway. Moreover, quantitative real-time PCR assay, western blot assay and rescue experiments were conducted to confirm the assumptions of bioinformatic analysis. Finally, a subcutaneous tumor-transplanted nude mouse model was established and applied to evaluate the internal effect of imperatorin on osteosarcoma by HE and immunohistochemistry staining. RESULTS: Imperatorin triggered time-dependent and dose-dependent inhibition of tumor growth mainly by inducing autophagy promotion and G0/G1 phase arrest in vitro and in vivo. Besides, imperatorin treatment elevated the expression level of PTEN and p21, down-regulated the phosphorylation of AKT and mTOR. In contrast, the inhibition of PTEN using Bpv (HOpic), a potential and selective inhibitor of PTEN, concurrently rescued imperatorin-induced autophagy promotion, cell cycle arrest and inactivation of PTEN-PI3K-AKT-mTOR/p21 pathway. CONCLUSIONS: This work firstly revealed that imperatorin induced autophagy and cell cycle arrest through PTEN-PI3K-AKT-mTOR/p21 signaling pathway by targeting and up-regulating PTEN in human osteosarcoma cells. Hence, imperatorin is a desirable candidate for clinical treatments of osteosarcoma.

RESUMO

Thermal transformation of carbonized materials to functional activated carbon (AC) is a simplified, economical and eco-friendly strategy, which has great potential in the practical applications of water purification. Herein, a S/Fe codoped activated carbon (S/Fe@AC) with only 0.90 wt% S and 0.76 wt% Fe was creatively fabricated by one synchronous method of physical activation, carbothermal reduction and sulfidation in the solid phase. The formed iron sulfide shell significantly enhances the antioxidation ability of nanoscale zero-valent iron (NZVI, >180 d) and dramatically improves the hydrophobicity of the composite. Meanwhile, the doped thiophenic S in AC enhances the hydrophobicity and increases the specific surface area to 1194.14 m2 g-1. Incorporating with AC in turn greatly strengthens the dispersibility and stability of sulfurized NZVI particles. Compared to NZVI@AC, AC and NZVI, the removal capacity of S/Fe@AC for the representative hydrophobic contaminant-triclosan (TCS) increases to 519.68 mg g-1 by 66.60%, 78.60% and 981.21%, respectively, outperforming most of the previously reported materials. The strong hydrophobic and π-π interactions, and weak hydrogen bonding and electrostatic repulsion are responsible for the excellent removal performance for TCS. More importantly, the improved chemical property (29.38%) of the composite caused by the doped S/Fe has a greater effect on TCS removal compared with the changed physical structure (14.56%). Furthermore, the stable S/Fe@AC shows strong anti-interference capability and exceptional regenerability. These intriguing discoveries provide new insights into the design of advanced and sustainable adsorbing materials for emerging contaminants.

RESUMO

Introduction: Intrauterine adhesions (IUA), also known as Asherman's syndrome, is caused by trauma to the pregnant or non-pregnant uterus, which leads to damaged endometrial basal lining and partial or total occlusion of the uterine chambers, resulting in abnormal menstruation, infertility, or recurrent miscarriage. The essence of this syndrome is endometrial fibrosis. And there is no effective treatment for IUA to stimulate endometrial regeneration currently. Recently, menstrual blood-derived stem cells (MenSCs) have been proved to hold therapeutic promise in various diseases, such as myocardial infarction, stroke, diabetes, and liver cirrhosis. Methods: In this study, we examined the effects of MenSCs on the repair of uterine adhesions in a rat model, and more importantly, promoted such therapeutic effects via a xeno-free VitroGel MMP carrier. Results: This combined treatment reduced the expression of inflammatory factors, increased the expression of anti-inflammatory factors, restricted the area of endometrial fibrosis, diminished uterine adhesions, and partially restored fertility, showing stronger effectiveness than each component alone and almost resembling the sham group. Discussion: Our findings suggest a highly promising strategy for IUA treatment.

RESUMO

AC-supported nanoscale zero-valent iron composites (nZVI/AC) exhibit significant environmental implications for trihalomethanes (THMs)-contaminated water remediation. To improve the adsorption and degradation capability of AC, herein, a composite (nZVI/Ag@AC-RGO) consisting of AC, reduced graphene oxide (RGO), nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI), and silver (Ag) was synthesized and characterized using several techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The analysis of textural and morphological structures showed that a tightly-attached RGO film, amorphous iron, and weak crystal silver nanoparticles with a size of 20-30 nm were evenly immobilized on the support. Specific surface area increased by 19.12% after supporting RGO, while it decreased after supporting nZVI and Ag due to the partial blockage of micropores. The Fe surface was concurrently coated by iron oxides (Fe2O3, FeOOH) and Ag. THMs were eliminated through multilayer reaction processes. The values of the adsorption constant (KF) of chloroform (CHCl3), dichlorobromoethane (CHBrCl2), dibromochloroethane (CHBr2Cl), and tribromomethane (CHBr3) adsorbed by nZVI/Ag@AC-RGO increased by 34.4, 33.7, 81.6, and 67.3%, respectively, compared to pristine AC. THMs with more Br atoms exhibited better removal efficiency and adsorption capacity, along with a higher oxidation degree of the Fe surface. CHBrCl2 and CHBr2Cl mainly decomposed into chloromethane (CH3Cl) and dichloromethane (CH2Cl2), and CHBr3 and CHCl3 primarily degraded into dibromomethane (CH2Br2) and CH2Cl2, respectively, along with generating Cl- and Br-. Conclusively, THMs-contaminated water could be remediated by coupling AC pre-enrichment and the reactivity of nZVI/Ag.

RESUMO

Hyperplasia of mammary glands (HMG) is also termed mammary dysplasia. In China, the number of patients suffering from breast hyperplasia is increasing annually. MicroRNAs (miRNAs; length, 19-24 nucleotides), a group of small endogenous non-coding RNAs, post-transcriptionally regulate gene expression via RNA interference and gene silencing pathways. The cause of disease of HMG because remains unclear. Thus, the aim of the present study was to establish comprehensive profile of drug treatments following at different time intervals on rat models of differentially expressed miRNAs, using miRNA microarray data. After scanning the chip, 13 up-regulated and 20 down-regulated miRNAs were identified. MiR-31 and miR-30 exhibited different expression levels between rats exhibiting mammary gland hyperplasia treated with or without Jiedu Capsule water solution once a day for 4 weeks, and the two demonstrated a strong association with HMG and breast cancer. Therefore, the functions of these miRNAs may provide the basis for further investigation of HMG.
