RESUMO

Various semiconductor devices have been developed based on 2D heterojunction materials owing to their distinctive optoelectronic properties. However, to achieve efficient charge transfer at their interface remains a major challenge. Herein, an alloy heterojunction concept is proposed. The sulfur vacancies in ZnIn2S4 are filled with selenium atoms of PdSe2. This chemically bonded heterojunction can significantly enhance the separation of photocarriers, providing notable advantages in the field of photoelectric conversion. As a demonstration, a two-terminal photodetector based on the PdSe2/ZnIn2S4 heterojunction materials is fabricated. The photodetector exhibits stable operation in ambient conditions, showcasing superior performance in terms of large photocurrent, high responsivity (48.8 mA W-1) and detectivity (1.98 × 1011 Jones). To further validate the excellent optoelectronic performance of the heterojunction, a tri-terminal phototransistor is also fabricated. Benefiting from gate voltage modulation, the photocurrent is amplified to milliampere level, and the responsivity is increased to 229.14 mA W-1. These findings collectively demonstrate the significant potential of the chemically bonded PdSe2/ZnIn2S4 alloy heterojunction for future optoelectronic applications.

RESUMO

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a prevalent liver disorder, affecting approximately 25 % of the population. Coffee-drinking obese smokers exhibit lower body weights and decreased NAFLD rates, but the reasons behind this remain unclear. Additionally, the effect of nicotine, the main component of tobacco, on the development of NAFLD is still controversial. Our study aimed to explore the possible reasons that drinking coffee could alleviate NAFLD and gain weight and identify the real role of nicotine in NAFLD of obese smokers. A NAFLD model in mice was induced by administering nicotine and a high-fat diet (HFD). We recorded changes in body weight and daily food intake, measured the weights of the liver and visceral fat, and observed liver and adipose tissue histopathology. Lipid levels, liver function, liver malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), serum inflammatory cytokine levels and the expression of hepatic genes involved in lipid metabolism were determined. Our results demonstrated that nicotine exacerbated the development of NAFLD and caffeine had a hepatoprotective effect on NAFLD. The administration of caffeine could ameliorate nicotine-plus-HFD-induced NAFLD by reducing lipid accumulation, regulating hepatic lipid metabolism, alleviating oxidative stress, attenuating inflammatory response and restoring hepatic functions. These results might explain why obese smokers with high coffee consumption exhibit the lower incidence rate of NAFLD and tend to be leaner. It is essential to emphasise that the detrimental impact of smoking on health is multifaceted. Smoking cessation remains the sole practical and effective strategy for averting the tobacco-related complications and reducing the risk of mortality.

RESUMO

The pursuit of van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures with high Curie temperature and strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) is vital to the advancement of next generation spintronic devices. First-principles calculations are used to study the electronic structures and magnetic characteristics of GaN/VS2vdW heterostructure under biaxial strain and electrostatic doping. Our findings show that a ferromagnetic ground state with a remarkable Curie temperature (477 K), much above room temperature, exists in GaN/VS2vdW heterostructure and 100% spin polarization efficiency. Additionally, GaN/VS2vdW heterostructure still maintains PMA under biaxial strain, which is indispensable for high-density information storage. We further explore the electron, magnetic, and transport properties of VS2/GaN/VS2vdW sandwich heterostructure, where the magnetoresistivity can reach as high as 40%. Our research indicates that the heterostructure constructed by combining the ferromagnet VS2and the non-magnetic semiconductor GaN is a promising material for vdW spin valve devices at room temperature.

RESUMO

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, progressive, and high mortality lung disease. Although the antifibrotic drugs pirfenidone and nintedanib could slow the rate of lung function decline, the usual course of the condition is inexorably to respiratory failure and death. Therefore, new approaches and novel therapeutic drugs for the treatment of IPF are urgently needed. And the selective PDE4 inhibitor has in vivo and in vitro anti-fibrotic effects in IPF models. But the clinical application of most PDE4 inhibitors are limited by their unexpected and severe side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Herein, structure-based optimizations of the natural product Moracin M resulted in a novel a novel series of 2-arylbenzofurans as potent PDE4 inhibitors. The most potent inhibitor L13 has an IC50 of 36 ± 7 nM with remarkable selectivity across the PDE families and administration of L13·citrate (10.0 mg/kg) exhibited comparable anti-pulmonary fibrosis effects to pirfenidone (300 mg/kg) in a bleomycin-induced IPF mice model, indicate that L13 is a potential lead for the treatment of IPF.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Overweight and obesity among adolescents are grave public health issues around the world. Although the conditions that contribute to obesity have been extensively researched, little is known about how multiple conditions interact to cause overweight and obesity. The current study intends to investigate the histomorphic configuration pathways of several conditions of adolescent overweight and obesity by gender. METHOD: The data came from a social survey conducted in June 2021 in Changchun, Jilin Province, China. The sample collected was 14-year-old adolescents, including 167 boys and 137 girls. The school physicians examined the participants' weight and height, and questionnaires were used to collect risk indicators from adolescents, such as sleep duration, electronic screens times, consumption of sugary drinks and fried foods, and physical activity. Simultaneously, a Fuzzy Qualitative Comparative Analysis will be performed to investigate the combinations of diverse conditions. RESULT: We found that there is no determining necessary condition that, once present, directly determines that an individual is in a state of overweight and obesity. Simultaneously, this study revealed nine alternative configurational paths of overweight and obesity in teenagers of different genders, with a concordance of 0.805 for six male groupings and 0.916 for three female groupings. The outcomes of overweight obesity in adolescents under different genders are similar but not identical. CONCLUSION: This study examined the interactions of a number of conditions from the individual, behavioral, learning and living environment that led to the same overweight obese outcome among adolescents of different genders. Our research will be useful to policymakers in that interventions should take into account the combined effects of a number of different aspects rather than focusing on a single factor that causes overweight and obesity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: White clover (Trifolium repens L.), an excellent perennial legume forage, is an allotetraploid native to southeastern Europe and southern Asia. It has high nutritional, ecological, genetic breeding, and medicinal values and exhibits excellent resistance to cold, drought, trample, and weed infestation. Thus, white clover is widely planted in Europe, America, and China; however, the lack of reference genome limits its breeding and cultivation. This study generated a white clover de novo genome assembly at the chromosomal level and annotated its components. RESULTS: The PacBio third-generation Hi-Fi assembly and sequencing methods generated a 1096 Mb genome size of T. repens, with contigs of N50 = 14 Mb, scaffolds of N50 = 65 Mb, and BUSCO value of 98.5%. The newly assembled genome has better continuity and integrity than the previously reported white clover reference genome; thus provides important resources for the molecular breeding and evolution of white clover and other forage. Additionally, we annotated 90,128 high-confidence gene models from the genome. White clover was closely related to Trifolium pratense and Trifolium medium but distantly related to Glycine max, Vigna radiata, Medicago truncatula, and Cicer arietinum. The expansion, contraction, and GO functional enrichment analysis of the gene families showed that T. repens gene families were associated with biological processes, molecular function, cellular components, and environmental resistance, which explained its excellent agronomic traits. CONCLUSIONS: This study reports a high-quality de novo assembly of white clover genome obtained at the chromosomal level using PacBio Hi-Fi sequencing, a third-generation sequencing. The generated high-quality genome assembly of white clover provides a key basis for accelerating the research and molecular breeding of this important forage crop. The genome is also valuable for future studies on legume forage biology, evolution, and genome-wide mapping of quantitative trait loci associated with the relevant agronomic traits.

RESUMO

We propose a heterogeneous structure, which are composed of two valley photonic crystals (VPCs) with opposite valley Chern numbers and air channel. With the increasing width of the air channel, valley-locked waveguide modes are found in topological bandgap by analyzing energy bands. Finite element method (FEM) simulation results show that the fundamental and high order modes are valley-locked, propagating unidirectionally under the excitation of chiral source, and possess higher flux compared to the valley-locked topological edge state in the domain wall. Besides, the immunity to backscattering in bend and couplers, and the robustness to random disorders are discussed in detail. We also investigate the one-way multimode interference (MMI) effect based on valley-locked waveguide modes, and design topological beam splitters. Our study provides a novel idea for topological transport with high flux, and more freedom to design valley-locked waveguide devices, including bends, couplers and splitters.

RESUMO

In this work, we utilize simulated annealing algorithm with neural network, to achieve rapid design of topological photonic crystals. We firstly train a high-accuracy neural network that predicts the band structure of hexagonal lattice photonic crystals. Subsequently, we embed the neural network into the simulated annealing algorithm, and choose the on-demand evaluation functions for optimizing topological band gaps. As examples, designing from the Dirac crystal of hexagonal lattice, two types of valley photonic crystals with the relative bandwidth of bandgap 26.8% and 47.6%, and one type of pseudospin photonic crystal with the relative bandwidth of bandgap 28.8% are obtained. In a further way, domain walls composed of valley photonic crystals (pseudospin photonic crystals) are also proposed, and full-wave simulations are conducted to verify the valley-locked (pseudospin-locked) edge states unidirectionally propagates under the excitation of circularly polarized source. Our proposed method demonstrates the efficiency and flexibility of neural network with simulated annealing algorithm in designing topological photonic crystals.

RESUMO

We have designed a metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) solar-blind ultraviolet (UV) photodetector (PD) by utilizing Al0.55Ga0.45N/Al0.4Ga0.6N/Al0.65Ga0.35N heterostructures. The interdigital Ni/Au metal stack is deposited on the Al0.55Ga0.45N layer to form Schottky contacts. The AlGaN hetero-epilayers with varying Al content contribute to the formation of a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) conduction channel and the enhancement of the built-in electric field in the Al0.4Ga0.6N absorption layer. This strong electric field facilitates the efficient separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Consequently, the fabricated PD exhibits an ultra-low dark current of 1.6 × 10-11 A and a broad spectral response ranging from 220 to 280 nm, with a peak responsivity of 14.08 A/W at -20 V. Besides, the PD demonstrates an ultrahigh detectivity of 2.28 × 1013 Jones at -5 V. Furthermore, to investigate the underlying physical mechanism of the designed solar-blind UV PD, we have conducted comprehensive two-dimensional device simulations.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Dl-3-n-butylphthalide (NBP) is an important medial therapy for acute ischemic stroke in China. Recent studied have revealed that NBP not only rescued the loss of dopaminergic neurons in cellular and animal models of Parkinson's disease (PD), but also could improve motor symptoms in PD patients. However, the protective mechanism is not fully understood. P53 is a multifunctional protein implicated in numerous cellular processes, including apoptosis, DNA repair, mitochondrial functions, redox homeostasis, autophagy and protein aggregations. In PD, p53 integrated with various neurodegeneration-related signals inducing neuronal loss, indicating the suppression of P53 might be a promising target for PD treatment. Therefore, the purpose of the current study was to systemically screen new therapeutic targets of NBP in PD. METHOD: In our study, we constructed mpp + induced N2A cells to investigate the benefit effect of NBP in PD. MTT assay was performed to evaluate the cell viability; TMT-based LC-MS/MS was applied to determine the different expressed proteins (DEPs) of NBP pretreatment; online bioinformatics databases such as DAVID, STRING, and KEGG was used to construe the proteomic data. After further analyzed and visualized the protein-protein interactions (PPI) by Cytoscape, DEPs were verified by western blot. RESULT: A total of 5828 proteins were quantified in the comparative proteomics experiments and 417 proteins were considered as DEPs (fold change > 1.5 and p < 0.05). Among the 417 DEPs, 140 were upregulated and 277 were downregulated in mpp + -induced N2A cells with NBP pretreatment. KEGG pathway analysis indicated that lysosome, phagosome, apoptosis, endocytosis and ferroptosis are the mainly enriched pathways. By using MCL clustering in PPI analysis, 48 clusters were generated and the subsequent KEGG analysis of the top 3 clusters revealed that P53 signaling pathway was recognized as the dominant pathway for NBP treatment. CONCLUSION: NBP significantly relived mpp + -induced cell toxicity. The neuroprotective role of NBP was implicated with P53 signaling pathway in some extent. These findings will reinforce the understanding of the mechanism of NBP in PD and identify novel therapeutic targets.

RESUMO

Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a well-known biomarker and validated serum biomarker for lung cancer. We introduce a simple label-free method for CEA detection. Specific recognition of CEA was made possible by immobilizing CEA antibodies in the sensing region of AlGaN/GaN high-electron-mobility transistors. The biosensors have a detection limit of 1 fg ml-1in phosphate buffer solution. This approach has advantages of integration, miniaturization, low cost, and rapid detection compared to other testing methods for lung cancer and could be used in future medical diagnostics.

RESUMO

Photovoltaic device is highly dependent on the weather, which is completely ineffective on rainy days. Therefore, it is very significant to design an all-weather power generation system that can utilize a variety of natural energy. This work develops a water droplet friction power generation (WDFG)/solar-thermal power generation (STG) hybrid system. The WDFG consists of two metal electrodes and a candle soot/polymer composite film, which also can be regarded as a capacitor. Thus, the capacitor coupled power generation (C-WDFG) device can achieve a sustainable and stable direct-current (DC) output under continuous dripping without external conversion circuits. A single device can produce an open-circuit voltage of ca.0.52 V and a short-circuit current of ca.0.06 mA, which can be further scaled up through series or parallel connection to drive commercial electronics. Moreover, we demonstrate that the C-WDFG is highly compatible with the thermoelectric device. The excellent photothermal performance of soot/polymer composite film can efficiently convert solar into heat, which is then converted to electricity by the thermoelectric device. Therefore, this C-WDFG/STG hybrid system can work in both rainy and sunny days.

RESUMO

Photothermoelectric conversion in chiral metasurfaces with thermoelectric material provides an effective way to achieve circular polarization recognition. In this paper, we propose a circular-polarization-sensitive photodetector in a mid-infrared region, which is mainly composed of an asymmetric silicon grating, a film of gold (Au), and the thermoelectric B i 2 T e 3 layer. The asymmetric silicon grating with the Au layer achieves high circular dichroism absorption due to a lack of mirror symmetry, which results in a different temperature increasing on the surface of the B i 2 T e 3 layer under right-handed circularly polarized (RCP) and left-handed circularly polarized (LCP) excitation. Then the chiral Seebeck voltage and output power density are obtained, thanks to the thermoelectric effect of B i 2 T e 3. All the works are based on the finite element method, and the simulation results are conducted by the Wave Optics module of COMSOL, which is coupled with the Heat Transfer module and Thermoelectric module of COMSOL. When the incident flux is 1.0W/c m 2, the output power density under RCP (LCP) light reaches 0.96m W/c m 2 (0.01m W/c m 2) at a resonant wavelength, which achieves a high capability of detecting circular polarization. Besides, the proposed structure shows a faster response time than that of other plasmonic photodetectors. Our design provides a novel, to the best of our knowledge, method for chiral imaging, chiral molecular detection, and so on.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: As a global pandemic, The Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has brought significant challenges to the primary health care (PHC) system. Health professionals are constantly affected by the pandemic's harmful impact on their mental health and are at significant risk of job burnout. Therefore, it is essential to gain a comprehensive understanding of how their burnout was affected. The study aimed to examine the relationship between COVID-19 event strength and job burnout among PHC providers and to explore the single mediating effect of job stress and work engagement and the chain mediating effect of these two variables on this relationship. METHODS: Multilevel stratified convenience sampling method was used to recruit 1148 primary medical staff from 48 PHC institutions in Jilin Province, China. All participants completed questionnaires regarding sociodemographic characteristics, COVID-19 event strength, job stress, work engagement, and job burnout. The chain mediation model was analyzed using SPSS PROCESS 3.5 Macro Model 6. RESULTS: COVID-19 event strength not only positively predicted job burnout, but also indirectly influenced job burnout through the mediation of job stress and work engagement, thereby influencing job burnout through the "job stress → work engagement" chain. CONCLUSIONS: This study extends the application of event systems theory and enriches the literature about how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted PHC medical staff job burnout. The findings derived from our study have critical implications for current and future emergency response and public policy in the long-term COVID-19 disease management period.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Ginkgolide B (GB) possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-apoptotic properties against neurotoxicity induced by amyloid beta (Aß), but the potential neuroprotective effects of GB in Alzheimer's therapies remain elusive. We aimed to conduct proteomic analysis of Aß1-42 induced cell injury with GB pretreatment to uncover the underlying pharmacological mechanisms of GB. METHODS: Tandem mass tag (TMT) labeled liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was applied to analyze protein expression in Aß1-42 induced mouse neuroblastoma N2a cells with or without GB pretreatment. Proteins with fold change >1.5 and p < 0.1 from two independent experiments were regarded as differentially expressed proteins (DEPs). Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses were performed to analyze the functional annotation information of DEPs. Two key proteins osteopontin (SPP1) and ferritin heavy chain 1 (FTH1) were validated in another three samples using western blot and quantitative real-time PCR. RESULTS: We identified a total of 61 DEPs in GB treated N2a cells, including 42 upregulated and 19 downregulated proteins. Bioinformatic analysis showed that DEPs mainly participated in the regulation of cell death and ferroptosis by down-regulating SPP1 protein and up-regulating FTH1 protein. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings demonstrate that GB treatment provides neuroprotective effects on Aß1-42 induced cell injury, which may be related to the regulation of cell death and ferroptosis. The research puts forward new insights into the potential protein targets of GB in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Paspalum notatum 'Flugge' is a diploid with 20 chromosomes (2n = 20) multi-purpose subtropical herb native to South America and has a high ecological significance. It is currently widely planted in tropical and subtropical regions. Despite the gene pool of P. notatum 'Flugge' being unearthed to a large extent in the past decade, no details about the genomic information of relevant species in Paspalum have been reported. In this study, the complete genome information of P. notatum was established and annotated through sequencing and de novo assembly of its genome. RESULTS: The latest PacBio third-generation HiFi assembly and sequencing revealed that the genome size of P. notatum 'Flugge' is 541 M. The assembly result is the higher index among the genomes of the gramineous family published so far, with a contig N50 = 52Mbp, scaffold N50 = 49Mbp, and BUSCOs = 98.1%, accounting for 98.5% of the estimated genome. Genome annotation revealed 36,511 high-confidence gene models, thus providing an important resource for future molecular breeding and evolutionary research. A comparison of the genome annotation results of P. notatum 'Flugge' with other closely related species revealed that it had a close relationship with Zea mays but not close compared to Brachypodium distachyon, Setaria viridis, Oryza sativa, Puccinellia tenuiflora, Echinochloa crusgalli. An analysis of the expansion and contraction of gene families suggested that P. notatum 'Flugge' contains gene families associated with environmental resistance, increased reproductive ability, and molecular evolution, which explained its excellent agronomic traits. CONCLUSION: This study is the first to report the high-quality chromosome-scale-based genome of P. notatum 'Flugge' assembled using the latest PacBio third-generation HiFi sequencing reads. The study provides an excellent genetic resource bank for gramineous crops and invaluable perspectives regarding the evolution of gramineous plants.

RESUMO

Valine-glutamine sequences (VQs) interact with WRKY transcription factors (TFs), forming VQ-WRKY protein complexes crucial for plant development and response to environmental changes. Cultivated peanut (Arachis hypogaea) is a tetraploid from A. duranensis and A. ipaensis cross. The Arachis spp. WRKY TFs have been identified, but Arachis VQs are largely unknown. This study identified VQs in A. duranensis, A. ipaensis, A. monticola, A. hypogaea cv. Fuhuasheng, A. hypogaea cv. Shitouqi, and A. hypogaea cv. Tifrunner. The study analyzed the homologous relationships between VQs in these Arachis spp. The VQ drought-tolerant genes were detected and VQ-WRKY interactions were determined in A. hypogaea cv. Tifrunner. The results showed that tetraploid Arachis spp. retained duplicated VQs, but lost ancestral VQs after allopolyploidization. The number of VQs in A. monticola, A. hypogaea cv. Fuhuasheng, and A. hypogaea cv. Shitouqi increased relative to their diploid ancestors. RNA-seq and quantitative real-time PCR experiments confirmed that three AhTVQs tolerate drought stress in A. hypogaea cv. Tifrunner. However, evidence of VQ-WRKY interaction for drought stress response is lacking in A. hypogaea cv. Tifrunner. Nevertheless, this study identified VQ-WRKY interactions, which possibly have multiple functions in A. hypogaea cv. Tifrunner. Altogether, this study dissected Arachis VQs, providing insights into Arachis VQ evolution and drought function.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) is a diploid perennial temperate legume with 14 chromosomes (2n = 14) native to Europe and West Asia, with high nutritional and economic value. It is a very important forage grass and is widely grown in marine climates, such as the United States and Sweden. Genetic research and molecular breeding are limited by the lack of high-quality reference genomes. In this study, we used Illumina, PacBio HiFi, and Hi-C to obtain a high-quality chromosome-scale red clover genome and used genome annotation results to analyze evolutionary relationships among related species. RESULTS: The red clover genome obtained by PacBio HiFi assembly sequencing was 423 M. The assembly quality was the highest among legume genome assemblies published to date. The contig N50 was 13 Mb, scaffold N50 was 55 Mb, and BUSCO completeness was 97.9%, accounting for 92.8% of the predicted genome. Genome annotation revealed 44,588 gene models with high confidence and 52.81% repetitive elements in red clover genome. Based on a comparison of genome annotation results, red clover was closely related to Trifolium medium and distantly related to Glycine max, Vigna radiata, Medicago truncatula, and Cicer arietinum among legumes. Analyses of gene family expansions and contractions and forward gene selection revealed gene families and genes related to environmental stress resistance and energy metabolism. CONCLUSIONS: We report a high-quality de novo genome assembly for the red clover at the chromosome level, with a substantial improvement in assembly quality over those of previously published red clover genomes. These annotated gene models can provide an important resource for molecular genetic breeding and legume evolution studies. Furthermore, we analyzed the evolutionary relationships among red clover and closely related species, providing a basis for evolutionary studies of clover leaf and legumes, genomics analyses of forage grass, the improvement of agronomic traits.

RESUMO

A high performance AlGaN-based back-illuminated solar-blind ultraviolet (UV) p-i-n photodetectors (PDs) are fabricated on sapphire substrates. The fabricated PD exhibits ultra-low dark current of less than 0.15 pA under -5 V bias, which corresponds to a dark current density of <1.5×10-11 A/cm2. In particular, the PD shows broad spectral response from 240 nm to 285 nm with an excellent solar-blind/UV rejection ratio of more than 103. The peak responsivity at the wavelength of 275 nm reaches 0.19 A/W at -5 V, corresponding to a maximum quantum efficiency of approximately 88%. Based on the absence of any anti-reflection coating, this corresponds to nearly 100% internal quantum efficiency. In addition, the PD shows a quite fast response of 0.62 ms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the record low dark current density and broadest response band reported for the back-illuminated AlGaN-based solar-blind UV detectors.

RESUMO

Bacterial residue is one of the main causes of diseases and economic losses. In recent years, microfabrication technology has inspired the introduction of microstructures on the surfaces of relevant materials to provide antibacterial effects. This antibacterial method has become a popular research topic due to its safety, effectiveness, and stability. However, its exact mechanism is still under debate. In this study, normal force was introduced to bacteria on GaN nanopillars to investigate the mechanical sterilization effects and a computer simulation was conducted. The results show that the normal force induces highly efficient mechanical sterilization of the nanopillars, and their surfaces impede the attachment of bacteria. This study provides insights into the antibacterial effect of nanopillars and offers a potential antibacterial tool with high efficiency.
