Twins in crystal defect, one of the significant factors affecting the physicochemical properties of semiconductor materials, are applied in catalytic conversion. Among the catalysts serving for photocatalytic water splitting, Zn1- x Cdx S has become a hot-point due to its adjustable energy band structure. Via limiting mass transport to control the release rate of anions/cations, twin Zn1- x Cdx S solid solution is prepared successfully, which lays a foundation for the construction of other twin crystals in the future. On twin Zn1- x Cdx S, water tends to be dissociated after being adsorbed by Zn2+ /Cd2+ at twin boundary, then the fast-moving electrons at twin boundary quickly combine with the protons already attached to S2- to form hydrogen. According to the theoretical calculation, not only the intracrystalline electron mobility, but also the extracrystalline capacity of water-adsorption/dissociation and proton-adsorption on the twin boundary are superior to those of the counterpart plane in defect-free phase. The synthetic twin Zn1- x Cdx S apparent quantum efficiency of photocatalysis water splitting for hydrogen reached 82.5% (λ = 420 nm). This research opens up an avenue to introduce twins in crystals and it hopes to shed some light on photocatalysis.

Passenger thermal comfort in high-speed train (HST) carriages presents unique challenges due to factors such as extensive operational areas, longer travel durations, larger spaces, and higher passenger capacities. This study aims to propose a new prediction model to better understand and address thermal comfort in HST carriages. The proposed prediction model incorporates skin wettedness, vertical skin temperature difference (ΔTd), and skin temperature as parameters to predict the thermal sensation vote (TSV) of HST passengers. The experiments were conducted with 65 subjects, evenly distributed throughout the HST compartment. Thermal environmental conditions and physiological signals were measured to capture the subjects' thermal responses. The study also investigated regional and overall thermal sensations experienced by the subjects. Results revealed significant regional differences in skin temperature between upper and lower body parts. By analyzing data from 45 subjects, We analyzed the effect of 25 variables on TSV by partial least squares (PLS), from which we singled out 3 key factors. And the optimal multiple regression equation was derived to predict the TSV of HST occupants. Validation with an additional 20 subjects demonstrated a strong linear correlation (0.965) between the actual TSV and the predicted values, confirming the feasibility and accuracy of the developed prediction model. By integrating skin wettedness and ΔTd with skin temperature, the model provides a comprehensive approach to predicting thermal comfort in HST environments. This research contributes to advancing thermal comfort analysis in HST and offers valuable insights for optimizing HST system design and operation to meet passengers' comfort requirements.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in high-speed trains (HST) are responsible for consuming approximately 70% of non-operational energy sources, yet they frequently fail to ensure provide adequate thermal comfort for the majority of passengers. Recent advancements in portable wearable sensors have opened up new possibilities for real-time detection of occupant thermal comfort status and timely feedback to the HVAC system. However, since occupant thermal comfort is subjective and cannot be directly measured, it is generally inferred from thermal environment parameters or physiological signals of occupants within the HST compartment. This paper presents a field test conducted to assess the thermal comfort of occupants within HST compartments. Leveraging physiological signals, including skin temperature, galvanic skin reaction, heart rate, and ambient temperature, we propose a Predicted Thermal Comfort (PTC) model for HST cabin occupants and establish an intelligent regulation model for the HVAC system. Nine input factors, comprising physiological signals, individual physiological characteristics, compartment seating, and ambient temperature, were formulated for the PTS model. In order to obtain an efficient and accurate PTC prediction model for HST cabin occupants, we compared the accuracy of different subsets of features trained by Machine Learning (ML) models of Random Forest, Decision Tree, Vector Machine and K-neighbourhood. We divided all the predicted feature values into four subsets, and did hyperparameter optimisation for each ML model. The HST compartment occupant PTC prediction model trained by Random Forest model obtained 90.4% Accuracy (F1 macro = 0.889). Subsequent sensitivity analyses of the best predictive models were then performed using SHapley Additive explanation (SHAP) and data-based sensitivity analysis (DSA) methods. The development of a more accurate and operationally efficient thermal comfort prediction model for HST occupants allows for precise and detailed feedback to the HVAC system. Consequently, the HVAC system can make the most appropriate and effective air supply adjustments, leading to improved satisfaction rates for HST occupant thermal comfort and the avoidance of energy wastage caused by inaccurate and untimely predictive feedback.

Metformin is commonly used, but approximately 20% of patients experience gastrointestinal intolerance, leading to medication discontinuation for unclear reasons and a lack of effective management strategies. In this study, the 18 fecal and blood samples were analyzed using 16S rRNA and mRNA transcriptome, respectively. These samples included 3 fecal and 4 blood from metformin-tolerant T2D patients before and after metformin treatment (T and Ta), 3 fecal and 5 blood from metformin-intolerant T2D patients before and after treatment (TS and TSa), and 6 fecal samples from healthy controls. The results showed that certain anti-inflammatory gut bacteria and gene, such as Barnesiella (p = 0.046), Parabacteroides goldsteinii (p = 0.016), and the gene JUND (p = 0.0002), exhibited higher levels in metformin-intolerant patients, and which decreased after metformin treatment (p < 0.05). This potentially invalidates patients' anti-inflammatory effect and intestinal mucus barrier protection, which may lead to alterations in intestinal permeability, decreased gut barrier function, and gastrointestinal symptoms, including diarrhea, bloating, and nausea. After metformin treatment, primary bile acids (PBAs) production species: Weissella confusa, Weissella paramesenteroides, Lactobacillus brevis, and Lactobacillus plantarum increased (p < 0.05). The species converting PBAs to secondary bile acids (SBAs): Parabacteroides distasonis decreased (p < 0.05). This might result in accumulation of PBAs, which also may lead to anti-inflammatory gene JUND and SQSTM1 downregulated. In conclusion, this study suggests that metformin intolerance may be attributed to a decrease in anti-inflammatory-related flora and genes, and also alterations in PBAs accumulation-related flora. These findings open up possibilities for future research targeting gut flora and host genes to prevent metformin intolerance.

This study was to compare the effects of three-dimensional (3D) printed bioactive porous titanium alloy scaffolds (3DP-BPTAS) and rhBMP-2/PLA-loaded sustained-release nanospheres (SRNs) in the treatment of bone defects. In this study, the bioactive porous titanium alloy scaffolds (BPTAS) with different pore sizes were prepared by selective laser melting (SLM) technology. The rhBMP-2/PLA SRNs were prepared by the double emulsion solvent volatilization method. The morphology of the two nanomaterials was observed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The encapsulation rate (ER), drug loading (DL), and in vitro release rate of the SRNs were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA); and the effects of different particle sizes of BPTAS and SRNs on the proliferation of BMSCs were measured using the Methyl Thiazolyl Tetrazolium (MTT) method. 42 healthy male rabbits were selected and rolled into a control group (no treatment), a model group (the femoral condyle defect model), an A800 group (model + 800 µm of BPTAS), and an A1000 group (model + 1000 µm of BPTAS), an A1200 group (model + 1200 µm of BPTAS), an A1500 group (model + 1500 µm of BPTAS), and an SNR group (model + rhBMP-2/PLA SRNs). There were 6 rabbits in each group, and they were sacrificed 4, 8, and 12 weeks after the surgery. They were performed with general observation, X-ray photography, and histological and biomechanical examinations. According to the Lane-Sandhu bone defect repair tissue X-ray and histological scoring standard, the effect of bone defect repair was evaluated. It was found that the actual pore structure of the scaffold prepared by the SLM process was consistent with the theoretical design. The observation under TEM showed that rhBMP-2/PLA SRNs were approximately round, with an average particle size of 835 nm, and its encapsulation efficiency and drug loading rate were 89.02 ± 5.14% and 0.033 ± 0.004%, respectively. The rhBMP-2/PLA SRNs and BPTAS had no statistically obvious increase in the number of cells after cell treatment compared with the control group (P> 0.05). At 12 weeks postoperatively, the stent bone tissue growing distance (SBTGD) in the SRN group was longer than that in the A1000 group (P< 0.01), and that in the A1000 group was better in contrast to the A800, A1200, and A1500 groups (P< 0.01). The Lane-Sandhu X-ray score of the SRN group was better than other groups (P< 0.05). It suggested that 3DP-BPTAS and rhBMP-2/PLA SRNs could repair the bone defects, and rhBMP-2/PLA SRNs were more conducive to the formation of new bone tissue.

PURPOSE: Thoracic ossification of the ligamentum flavum (OLF) is an uncommon disease that mostly occurs in East Asians. Laminectomy is often considered when patients develop neuro-related symptoms but may associate with treatment-related complications. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of unilateral biportal endoscopic (UBE) decompression treatment in patients with symptomatic OLF. METHODS: From January 2020 to January 2021, patients with spinal cord compression symptoms and imaging-defined single-level thoracic OLF were enrolled in this study and received UBE decompression treatment. Their pre- and postoperative neurological statuses were evaluated by the modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association (mJOA) score, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for leg pain, and Frankel grade. RESULTS: Fourteen patients with an average age of 59.4 years were enrolled in the study. The mean operation time was 66.1 ± 15.4 minutes. Patients were followed up for at least one year after receiving the treatment. Our data suggested that their mJOA score (preop 6.2 ± 1.2, 1 year 8.5 ± 0.9; P < 0.001) and VAS score (preop 4.5 ± 2.0, 1 year 0.5 ± 0.9; P < 0.001) were significantly improved compared with that before operation. Cerebrospinal fluid leakage occurred in one patient, head and neck pain occurred in two patients, and hyperalgesia of lower limbs occurred in two patients. All these complications did not cause serious consequences. CONCLUSION: This primary study indicated that the UBE decompression treatment can achieve satisfactory clinical results in patients with thoracic OLF at single level and provide an alternative treatment option.

Endophytes and their elicitors can all be utilized in regulating crop biochemical qualities. However, living endophytes and their derived elicitors are always applied separately; little is known about the similarities and differences of their effects. To increase the efficiency of this system when applied in practice, the present work profiled simultaneously the metabolomes in grape cells exposed to endophytic fungi (EF) and their corresponding fungal extracts (CFE). As expected, grape cells exposed separately to different fungi, or to different fungi derived extracts, each exhibited different modifications of metabolite patterns. The metabolic profiles of certain EF- and CFE-exposed grape cells were also differently influenced to certain degrees, owing to the presence of differentially responding metabolites (DRMs). However, the detected majority proportions of coordinately responding metabolites (CRMs) in both the EF- and the CFE-exposed grape cells, as well as the significantly influenced metabolites (SIMs) which are specific to certain fungal strains, clearly indicate coordinative changes in metabolites in grape cells exposed to EF and CFEs. The coordinative changes in metabolites in EF- and CFE-treated grape cells appeared to be fungal strain-dependent. Notably, several of those fungal strain-specific CRMs and DRMs are metabolites and belong to amino acids, lipids, organic acids, phenolic acids, flavonoids, and others, which are major contributors to the biochemistry and sensory qualities of grapes and wines. This research clarifies the detailed responses of metabolites in grape cells exposed to EF and CFEs. It also demonstrates how endophytes can be selectively used in the form of extracts to produce functions as CRMs of the living fungus with increased eco-safety, or separately applied to the living microbes or elicitors to emphasize those effects related to their specifically initiated SIMs and DRMs.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis is very common in women. Currently, many kinds of new drugs are being developed for this disease. Postmenopausal osteoporosis is closely related to overactivity of osteoclasts in body. Shikonin is purple red naphthoquinone pigment extracted from lithospermum, which has anti-inflammation, antivirus, anticancer and other bioactivities. At the same time, it has been proved that shikonin can promote the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts, but its influence on osteoclasts and molecular mechanism are unknown. Our study showed that shikonin could inhibit the activity and formation of RANKL-mediated osteoclasts depending on dose without affecting the activity of bone marrow macrophages (BMM). In addition, we have also found that shikonin can inhibit the expression of specific marker gene of osteoclasts, including nuclear factor of activated T cells cytoplasmic 1 (NFATc1), cathepsin K (Ctsk), tartrate resistant acid phosphatase (TRAcP) and calcitonin receptor. Shikonin also could promote the proliferation of MC3T3-E1, increasing the expression of mRNA related to osteogenesis, like the expression of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2) and osteocalcin (OCN). Luciferase reporter gene assay and Western blot analysis further indicated that shikonin could inhibit the activity of RANKL-induced NF-κB and NFAT receptors. Moreover, shikonin can also slow down bone loss of ovariectomized (OVX) mice by inhibiting the activity of osteoclasts. This work explains the molecular mechanism of shikonin in RANKL-mediated formation of osteoclasts, and reveals the potential of further developing shikonin into a new drug for prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Large-size ultrathin 2D materials, with extensive applications in optics, medicine, biology, and semiconductor fields, can be prepared through an existing common physical and chemical process. However, the current exfoliation technologies still need to be improved upon with urgency. Herein, a novel and simple "ultrasonic-ball milling" strategy is reported to effectively obtain high quality and large size ultrathin 2D materials with complete lattice structure through the introduction of moderate sapphire (Al2 O3 ) abrasives in a liquid phase system. Ultimately numerous high-quality ultrathin h-BN, graphene, MoS2 , WS2 , and BCN nanosheets are obtained with large sizes ranging from 1-20 µm, small thickness of ≈1-3 nm and a high yield of over 20%. Utilizing shear and friction force synergistically, this strategy provides a new method and alternative for preparing and optimizing large size ultrathin 2D materials.

Local pathogens can accumulate as asymptomatic endophytes, making it difficult to detect the impacts of invasive species as propagators of disease in the invaded range. We used the invasive plant Ageratina adenophora to assess such accumulation. We intensively collected foliar fungal endophytes and leaf spot pathogens of A. adenophora and co-occurring neighbours and performed an inoculation experiment to evaluate their pathogenicity and host range. Ageratina adenophora harboured diverse necrotrophic pathogens; its communities of endophytes and leaf spot pathogens were different in composition and shared only a small number of fungal species. In the pathogen communities of local plant hosts, 21% of the operational taxonomic units (OTUs), representing 50% of strains, also occurred as leaf spot pathogens and/or endophytes of A. adenophora. The local pathogen community was more similar to the endophytes than to the pathogens of A. adenophora. The inoculation experiment showed that local pathogens could infect A. adenophora leaves asymptomatically and that local plant hosts were susceptible to both A. adenophora endophytes and pathogens. Ageratina adenophora is a highly competent host for local pathogens, and its asymptomatic latent pathogens are fungi primarily shared with local neighbours. This poses challenges for understanding the long-term ecological consequences of plant invasion.

BACKGROUND: Gastrodia elata is a widely distributed achlorophyllous orchid and is highly valued as both medicine and food. Gastrodia elata produces dust-like seeds and relies on mycorrhizal fungi for its germination and growth. In its life cycle, G. elata is considered to switch from a specific single-fungus relationship (Mycena) to another single-fungus relationship (Armillaria). However, no studies have investigated the changes in the plant-fungus relationship during the growth of G. elata in the wild. In this study, high-throughput sequencing was used to characterize the fungal community of tubers in different growth phases as well as the soils surrounding G. elata. RESULTS: The predominant fungi were Basidiomycota (60.44%) and Ascomycota (26.40%), which exhibited changes in abundance and diversity with the growth phases of G. elata. Diverse basidiomycetes in protocorms (phase P) were Hyphodontia, Sistotrema, Tricholoma, Mingxiaea, Russula, and Mycena, but the community changed from a large proportion of Resinicium bicolor (40%) in rice-like tubers (phase M) to an unidentified Agaricales operational taxonomic unit 1(OTU1,98.45%) in propagation vegetation tubers (phase B). The soil fungi primarily included Simocybe, Psathyrella, Conocybe, and Subulicystidium. Three Mycena OTUs obtained in this study were differentially distributed among the growth phases of G. elata, accounting for less than 1.0% of the total reads, and were phylogenetically close to Mycena epipterygia and M. alexandri. CONCLUSIONS: Our data indicated that G. elata interacts with a broad range of fungi beyond the Mycena genus. These fungi changed with the growth phases of G. elata. In addition, these data suggested that the development of the fungal community during the growth of G. elata was more complex than previously assumed and that at least two different fungi could be involved in development before the arrival of Armillaria.

The design and fabrication of an ethanol microsensor integrated with a readout circuit on-a-chip using the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS)-microelectro -mechanical system (MEMS) technique are investigated. The ethanol sensor is made up of a heater, a sensitive film and interdigitated electrodes. The sensitive film is tin dioxide that is prepared by the sol-gel method. The heater is located under the interdigitated electrodes, and the sensitive film is coated on the interdigitated electrodes. The sensitive film needs a working temperature of 220 °C. The heater is employed to provide the working temperature of sensitive film. The sensor generates a change in capacitance when the sensitive film senses ethanol gas. A readout circuit is used to convert the capacitance variation of the sensor into the output frequency. Experiments show that the sensitivity of the ethanol sensor is 0.9 MHz/ppm.

The study develops an integrated humidity microsensor fabricated using the commercial 0.18 µm complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process. The integrated humidity sensor consists of a humidity sensor and a ring oscillator circuit on-a-chip. The humidity sensor is composed of a sensitive film and branch interdigitated electrodes. The sensitive film is zinc oxide prepared by sol-gel method. After completion of the CMOS process, the sensor requires a post-process to remove the sacrificial oxide layer and to coat the zinc oxide film on the interdigitated electrodes. The capacitance of the sensor changes when the sensitive film adsorbs water vapor. The circuit is used to convert the capacitance of the humidity sensor into the oscillation frequency output. Experimental results show that the output frequency of the sensor changes from 84.3 to 73.4 MHz at 30 °C as the humidity increases 40 to 90%RH.

This study investigates the fabrication and characterization of an acetone microsensor with a ring oscillator circuit using the commercial 0.18 µm complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process. The acetone microsensor contains a sensitive material, interdigitated electrodes and a polysilicon heater. The sensitive material is α-Fe2O3 synthesized by the hydrothermal method. The sensor requires a post-process to remove the sacrificial oxide layer between the interdigitated electrodes and to coat the α-Fe2O3 on the electrodes. When the sensitive material adsorbs acetone vapor, the sensor produces a change in capacitance. The ring oscillator circuit converts the capacitance of the sensor into the oscillation frequency output. The experimental results show that the output frequency of the acetone sensor changes from 128 to 100 MHz as the acetone concentration increases 1 to 70 ppm.

In this study, the transcriptome profiles of tissue-cultured grapevine (Vitis vinifera L. × Vitis labrusca L.: Rose Honey) seedlings inoculated with fungal endophytes Epicoccum layuense R2-21 (Epi R2-21) and Alternaria alternata XHYN2 (Alt XHYN2), were analyzed at three different time points (6 h, 6 d, and 15 d). A total of 4783 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) was found, of which 1853 (6 h), 3878 (6 d), and 4732 (15 d) were differentially expressed relative to those of the control in endophyte Epi R2-21 treatments, while a total of 5898 DEGs, of which 2726 (6 h), 4610 (6 d), and 3938 (15 d) were differentially expressed in endophyte Alt XHYN2 treatments. DEGs enriched in secondary metabolic pathways, plant-pathogen interaction, and hormone signalling were further analysed. The upregulated DEGs in the Epi R2-21 and Alt XHYN2 treatments, both enriched in the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), were mainly involved in flavonoid biosynthesis, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, stilbenoid, diarylheptanoid and gingerol biosynthesis, phenylalanine metabolism, and circadian rhythms-plant and plant-pathogen interactions, similar to the trend observed in our previous study conducted on the cultivar 'Cabernet Sauvignon' (Vitis vinifera L.). Taken together with the results obtained from the cultivar 'Cabernet Sauvignon', it was found that tissue-cultured seedlings of the cultivar 'Rose Honey' induced a stronger defence response to fungal endophyte infection than that of the cultivar 'Cabernet Sauvignon', and inoculation with the endophyte Alt XHYN2 triggered a stronger response than inoculation with the endophyte Epi R2-21. In addition, the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network revealed that the genes VIT_16s0100g00910, encoding CHS, and VIT_11s0065g00350, encoding CYP73A, were involved in secondary metabolism and thus mediated in the resistance mechanism of grapevine on both the cultivars. The results showed that inoculation with the endophytes Epi R2-21 and Alt XHYN2 had a great ability to induce defence responses and reprogram the gene expression profiles in different grapevine cultivars, which deepens our knowledge of the interaction between fungal endophytes and grapevine and gives hints for grape quality management in viticulture using candidate fungal endophytes.

Various health issues have emerged due to consuming high-fat diets (HFD), particularly the detrimental impact they have on mitochondrial dynamics and subsequet cognition functions. Specially, mitochondrial fission can serve as an upstream signal in the regulation of cortical inflammation and neural pyroptosis. Our study was designed to verify the existence of neuroinflammation in the pathogenesis of HFD-induced cognitive dysfunction and demonstrated that resveratrol (RSV) attenuated neural deficits via regulation of cortical mitochondrial fission. A total of 50 male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into five groups: control (Cont, 26 weeks on normal rodent diet); high-fat diet (HFD); dietary adjustments (HFD + ND); resveratrol intervention (HFD + R); joint intervention (HFD + ND + R) for 26 weeks. The spatial learning and memory function, spine density, NLRP3 inflammasome associated protein, mRNA and protein expression involved in mitochondrial dynamics and SIRT1/PGC-1α signaling pathway in brain were measured. Furthermore, reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and resultant mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) alteration in PC12 cells exposed to palmitic acid (PA) or Drp1 inhibitor (Mdivi-1) were detected to reflect mitochondrial function. The findings suggested that prolonged treatment of RSV improved cognitive deficits and neuronal damage induced by HFD, potentially attributed to activation of the SIRT1/PGC-1α axis. We further indicated that the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome in PA (200 µM) treated PC12 cells could be inhibited by Mdivi-1. More importantly, Mdivi-1 (10 µM) reduced intracellular ROS levels and enhanced MMP by reversing Drp1-mediated aberrant mitochondrial fission. To summarize, those results clearly indicated that a HFD inhibited the SIRT1/PGC-1α pathway, which contributed to an imbalance in mitochondrial dynamics and the onset of NLRP3-mediated pyroptosis. This effect was mitigated by the RSV possibly through triggering the SIRT1/PGC-1α axis, prevented aberrant mitochondrial fission and thus inhibited the activation of the NLRP3 inflammatory pathway.

Transition-metal species embedded in carbon have sparked intense interest in the fields of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). However, improvement of the electrocatalytic kinetics remains a challenge caused by the synergistic assembly. Here, we propose a biochemical strategy to fabricate the Co nanoparticles (NPs) and Co/Ni-N4-C co-embedded N-doped porous carbon (CoNPs&Co/Ni-N4-C@NC) catalysts via constructing the zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF)@yeast precursor. The rich amino groups provide the possibility for the anchorage of Co2+/Ni2+ ions as well as the construction of Co/Ni-ZIF@yeast through the yeast cell biomineralization effect. The functional design induces the formation of CoNPs and Co/Ni-N4-C sites in N-doped carbon as well as regulates the porosity for exposing such sites. Synergy of CoNPs, Co/Ni-N4-C, and porous N-doped carbon delivered excellent electrocatalytic kinetics (the ORR Tafel slope of 76.3 mV dec-1 and the OER Tafel slope of 80.4 mV dec-1) and a high voltage of 1.15 V at 10 mA cm-2 for the discharge process in zinc air batteries. It provides an effective strategy to fabricate high-performance catalysts.

Dendrite formation and water-triggered side reactions on the surface of Zn metal anodes severely restrict the commercial viability of aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). In this work, we introduce erythritol (Et) as an electrolyte additive to enhance the reversibility of zinc anodes, given its cost-effectiveness, mature technology, and extensive utilization in various domains such as food, medicine, and other industries. By combining multiscale theoretical simulation and experimental characterization, it was demonstrated that Et molecules can partially replace the coordination H2O molecules to reshape the Zn2+ solvation sheath and destroy the hydrogen bond network of the aqueous electrolyte. More importantly, Et molecules tend to adsorb on the zinc anode surface, simultaneously inhibit water-triggered side reactions by isolating water and promote uniform and dense deposition by accelerating the Zn2+ diffusion and regulating the nucleation size of the Zn grain. Thanks to this synergistic mechanism, the Zn anode can achieve a cycle life of more than 3900 h at 1 mA cm-2 and an average Coulombic efficiency of 99.77%. Coupling with δ-MnO2 cathodes, the full battery delivers a high specific capacity of 228.1 mAh g-1 with a capacity retention of 76% over 1000 cycles at 1 A g-1.

The study presents an ammonia microsensor integrated with a readout circuit on-a-chip fabricated using the commercial 0.18 µm complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process. The integrated sensor chip consists of a heater, an ammonia sensor and a readout circuit. The ammonia sensor is constructed by a sensitive film and the interdigitated electrodes. The sensitive film is zirconium dioxide that is coated on the interdigitated electrodes. The heater is used to provide a working temperature to the sensitive film. A post-process is employed to remove the sacrificial layer and to coat zirconium dioxide on the sensor. When the sensitive film adsorbs or desorbs ammonia gas, the sensor produces a change in resistance. The readout circuit converts the resistance variation of the sensor into the output voltage. The experiments show that the integrated ammonia sensor has a sensitivity of 4.1 mV/ppm.

This study investigates the design and fabrication of magnetic microsensors using the commercial 0.35 µm complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process. The magnetic sensor is composed of springs and interdigitated electrodes, and it is actuated by the Lorentz force. The finite element method (FEM) software CoventorWare is adopted to simulate the displacement and capacitance of the magnetic sensor. A post-CMOS process is utilized to release the suspended structure. The post-process uses an anisotropic dry etching to etch the silicon dioxide layer and an isotropic dry etching to remove the silicon substrate. When a magnetic field is applied to the magnetic sensor, it generates a change in capacitance. A sensing circuit is employed to convert the capacitance variation of the sensor into the output voltage. The experimental results show that the output voltage of the magnetic microsensor varies from 0.05 to 1.94 V in the magnetic field range of 5-200 mT.
