RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lymph node (LN) harvesting is associated with outcomes in colonic cancer. We sought to interrogate whether a distinctive immune milieu of the primary tumour is associated with LN yield. METHODS: A total of 926 treatment-naive patients with colorectal adenocarcinoma with more than 12 LNs (LN-high) were compared with patients with 12 or fewer LNs (LN-low). We performed immunohistochemistry and quantification on tissue microarrays for HLA class I/II proteins, beta-2-microglobulin (B2MG), CD8, CD163, LAG3, PD-L1, FoxP3, and BRAF V600E. RESULTS: The LN-high group was comprised of younger patients, longer resections, larger tumours, right-sided location, and tumours with deficient mismatch repair (dMMR). The tumour microenvironment showed higher CD8+ cells infiltration and B2MG expression on tumour cells in the LN-high group compared to the LN-low group. The estimated mean disease-specific survival was higher in the LN-high group than LN-low group. On multivariate analysis for prognosis, LN yield, CD8+ cells, extramural venous invasion, perineural invasion, and AJCC stage were independent prognostic factors. CONCLUSION: Our findings corroborate that higher LN yield is associated with a survival benefit. LN yield is associated with an immune high microenvironment, suggesting that tumour immune milieu influences the LN yield.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Pycnogenol (PYC) and its antioxidant and antiapoptotic effect in an experimental hypoxic-ischemic (HI) rat model. STUDY DESIGN: A total of 24 Wistar albino rats who were on the seventh postnatal day were divided into three groups with developed HI brain injury model under the sevoflurane anesthesia: 40 mg/kg PYC was given to Group A, saline was given to Group B, and the sham group was Group C. Neuronal apoptosis was investigated by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling and immunohistochemically stained manually with primer antibodies of tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-1ß. RESULTS: The neuronal cell injury was statistically lower in the PYC treatment group. CONCLUSION: This is the first study that investigates the role of PYC in the HI brain injury model. PYC reduces apoptosis and neuronal injury in the cerebral tissue of the rats. PYC may be a protective agent against hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. KEY POINTS: · This is the first study that investigates the role of PYC in the HI brain injury model.. · PYC may be a protective agent against hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.. · Sevoflurane should not be preferred in rat studies where neuronal apoptosis will be investigated..

RESUMO

The size of an animal's pelvis can have a substantial impact on the ease or difficulty of giving birth, which can vary depending on the breed. Radiography is a medical imaging technique that is commonly utilized in clinical cases to assess pelvic dimensions. The present retrospective, observational study was designed to evaluate pelvimetric differences in radiographic images of British Shorthair (BS) cats with dystocia and eutocia. Pelvimetric values (linear distance, angle, area, height/width) for ventrodorsal and laterolateral radiographic images were recorded in 15 BS cats with dystocia and 15 BS cats with eutocia. Statistical analysis of the obtained measurement values was performed. When the pelvimetric data were examined overall, it was seen that mean values, except the PL (pelvis length) measurement, were higher in cats with eutocia than in cats with dystocia. Vertical diameter, conjugate vera, coxal tuberosities, transversal diameter, acetabula, pelvic inclination, ischiatic arch, pelvis inlet area (PIA), and pelvic outlet area (POA) values were significantly higher in cats with eutocia than in cats with dystocia (P < 0.05). Mean PIA and POA measurement values in cats with dystocia were 22.89 ± 2.38 cm2 and 19.59 ± 1.90 cm2 , respectively; in cats with eutocia, the mean was calculated as 27.16 ± 2.76 cm2 and 23.18 ± 1.88 cm2 , respectively. In conclusion, the present study revealed that pelvimetric values, except the PL measurement, were higher in cats with eutocia than in cats with dystocia. Findings can be used to assist veterinarians in future clinical decision-making for pregnant BS cats.

RESUMO

In this study, trend analysis of the lake surface areas was performed on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform in the period of 1985-2022 with Landsat 5/7/8/9 (TM) (ETM +), and (OLI) satellite images. The study analyzed 10 lakes, including Acigol, Aksehir, Beysehir, Burdur, Egirdir, Ilgin, Isikli, Karatas, Salda, and Yarisli in the Türkiye Lakes Region. In this analysis, the normalized differentiated water index was calculated for each of the 3147 satellite images, and water surfaces were extracted from other details using Otsu's threshold method. In the study's accuracy, the overall accuracy and F1-score values were calculated to be over 90% for all lakes. Moreover, the relationship between the changes in the surface areas of the lakes was evaluated using correlation analysis, with the sea surface temperature obtained from the NOAA satellite and the evaporation, temperature, and precipitation parameters obtained from the Era-5 satellite being used. In addition, the change of the area on the lake surface was analysed using Mann-Kendall (MK), Sen's slope, and sequential MK test statistics. During the 37 years between 1985 and 2022, there was no significant change in the Acigol surface area, but a slight increasing trend was observed. Decreases of 76.07, 4.68, 41.77, 5.44, 37.56, 28.97, 78.65, 7.26, and 81.02% were determined in the lakes of Aksehir, Beysehir, Burdur, Egirdir, Ilgin, Isikli, Karatas, Salda, and Yarisli, respectively. The application of this method in the lakes region and monitoring these lakes, which are of great importance for Türkiye, provide valuable information in determining the lakes' organizational strategies.

RESUMO

Cor triatriatum sinister is rare congenital heart disease. It is defined as the presence of an abnormal septum dividing the left atrium into two chambers, and in some cases may be associated with a total abnormal pulmonary venous connection. Prenatal diagnosis of cor triatriatum sinister may be possible with fetal echocardiography and the diagnosis can be made earlier than postnatal imaging techniques. In the fetal echocardiography performed in our patient, cor triatriatum sinister was present and the main pathology was the flow of right and left pulmonary vein return from the accessory atrium to the right atrium.

RESUMO

Background/aim: A significant cause of mortality and morbidity in the neonatal era is hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). This study examined the histopathological analysis and neuroprotective impact of syringin (SYR) in an experimental HIE rat model. Material and methods: On the 7th postnatal day, 24 Wistar albino rats were evaluated in 3 groups using the HIE model under gas anesthesia. In the experiment, Group A received 10 mg/kg SYR plus dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), Group B received DMSO only, and Group C served as a sham group. Immunohistochemical techniques were used to assess apoptotic cell measurement and proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-1ß primary antibodies). Results: Rats suffering from hypoxic-ischemic brain damage had their apoptosis assessed. The SYR and sham groups had statistically fewer cells undergoing apoptosis (p < 0.001). There was no difference between the groups in terms of IL-1ß and TNF-α during immunohistochemical staining. Neuronal degeneration was significantly lower in the histological evaluation of the hippocampus in the SYR group (p = 0.01). A statistically significant difference (p = 0.01) was observed between the SYR and the control groups regarding pericellular and perivascular edema. Conclusion: SYR reduced apoptosis, perivascular and pericellular edema, and neuronal degeneration in rat cerebral tissue. These results raise the possibility that SYR may have a neuroprotective effect on the harm brought on by HIE. This is the first investigation of SYR's function within the HIE paradigm.

RESUMO

Mucinous adenocarcinoma (MAD), the most common subtype of colonic adenocarcinoma (CA), requires >50% intratumoral mucin. There is limited data regarding the impact of MAD on key lymphocyte subsets and therapeutically critical immune elements. In this study we address: (1) the definition of MAD, (2) grading of MAD, and (3) the impact of MAD and extracellular mucin on intratumoral immune milieu. Estimation of the percentage of intratumoral mucin was performed by two pathologists. Tissue microarrays were stained for immune markers including CD8, CD163, PD-L1, FoxP3, ß2 microglobulin, HLA class I, and HLA class II. Immunohistochemistry for BRAF V600E was performed. MMR status was determined on immunohistochemistry for MSH2, MSH6, MLH1, PMS2. Manual and automated HALO platforms were used for quantification. The 903 CAs included 62 (6.9%) MAD and 841 CA with ≤ 50% mucin. We identified 225 CAs with mucinous differentiation, defined by ≥10% mucin. On univariate analysis neither cut point, 50% (p = 0.08) and 10% (p = 0.08) mucin, correlated with disease-specific survival (DSS). There were no differences in key clinical, histological and molecular features between MAD and CA with mucinous differentiation. On univariate analysis of patients with MAD, tumor grade correlated with DSS (p = 0.0001) while MMR status did not (p = 0.86). There was no statistically significant difference in CD8 (P = 0.17) and CD163 (P = 0.05) positive immune cells between MAD and conventional CA. However, deficient (d) MMR MADs showed fewer CD8 (P = 0.0001), CD163 (P = 0.0001) and PD-L1 (P = 0.003) positive immune cells compared to proficient (p)MMR MADs, a finding also seen with at 10% mucin cut point. Although MAD does not impact DSS, this study raises the possibility that the immune milieu of dMMR MADs and tumors with > =10% mucin may differ from pMMR MADs and tumors with <10% mucin, a finding that may impact immune-oncology based therapeutics.

RESUMO

Programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) on tumor cells is a significant prognostic biomarker for a number of malignancies, although less is known about the significance of PD-L1 positive immune cells in colon carcinoma. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the role of PD-L1 in a large cohort of colon carcinomas to identify patterns of PD-L1 expression in the tumor microenvironment and its correlation with other key immune subsets to better understand the impact of these immune cells. We assessed 1218 colon carcinomas on representative tissue microarray sections, gathered relevant clinicopathologic information, and performed immunohistochemical staining for mismatch repair proteins, CD8, CD163, LAG3, PD-L1, FoxP3, and BRAF V600E. We then performed automated quantification; manual quantification was used for PD-L1 tumor cells and immune cells. Dual PD-L1/PU.1 immunostain was also performed. The majority of PD-L1 positive cells expressed PU.1 thus representing tumor-associated macrophages. Based on the median number of PD-L1 positive immune cells (7.6/mm2), we classified tumors into two classes: (1) PD-L1 immune cell low and (2) PD-L1 immune cell high. PD-L1 immune cell high colon carcinomas showed favorable prognostic pathologic features including less frequent extramural venous invasion (p = 0.0001) and lower AJCC stage (p = 0.0001); they were also more commonly associated with deficient mismatch repair (dMMR) (p = 0.0001) and BRAF V600E reactivity. PD-LI immune cell high tumors were associated with high CD8, CD163, and FoxP3 positive cells (p = 0.0001, respectively). PD-L1 immune cell high and LAG3 high colon carcinomas were associated with improved disease-specific survival (p = 0.0001 and 0.001, respectively). PD-L1 expression on tumor cells was not associated with disease-specific survival. On multivariate analysis of chemotherapy naïve stage 2 colon carcinomas, only extramural venous invasion (p = 0.002), perineural invasion (p = 0.001) and PD-L1 immune cell expression (p = 0.032) correlated with disease-specific survival. Resected colonic carcinomas with high expression of PD-L1 and LAG3 proteins on immune cells were associated with improved prognosis in colon carcinoma. The mechanism underlying the improved prognosis of colon carcinomas bearing high numbers of immunoregulatory cells needs further investigation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Serrated adenocarcinoma (SAC), a recognised WHO variant of colonic adenocarcinoma, is the purported end-product of serrated neoplasia. However, the diagnosis of SAC is infrequently rendered, and little is known about its prognosis, immune microenvironment and molecular alterations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We assessed 903 consecutive colon carcinomas and recognised tumours with ≥ 5% (n = 77) serrated and ≥ 50% serrated patterns (n = 13). We assessed precursor polyps and synchronous polyps. We recorded demographic/clinical parameters, histological features and mismatch repair (MMR) status. We performed immunohistochemistry and quantification on tissue microarray for HLA class I/II proteins, B2MG, CD8, CD163, LAG3, FoxP3, PD-L1 and BRAF V600E. RESULTS: We identified ≥ 5% epithelial serration prevalence in 8.5% of cases and ≥ 50% epithelial serration prevalence in 1.4% of cases. Precursor lesions were present in 21.4% of cases; these were mostly tubular adenomas with two traditional serrated adenomas identified. SAC with ≥ 5% serrations exhibited lower numbers of CD8-positive lymphocytes (P = 0.002) and lower B2MG expression (P = 0.048), although neither value was significant at ≥ 50% serration threshold. There was no difference in HLA class I/II, or PD-L1 expression on tumour cells and no difference in PD-L1, LAG3, FoxP3 and CD163 expression on immune cells. There was no association with MMR status, or BRAFV600E relative to conventional adenocarcinoma. There was improved disease-specific survival on univariate (but not multivariate) analysis between carcinomas with serrated pattern and non-mucinous conventional colonic carcinomas at ≥ 5% epithelial serrations (P = 0.04). CONCLUSION: SAC category shows a limited impact on survival, and this phenotype may harbour a unique immunological milieu.

RESUMO

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection can result in multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). MIS-C can lead to myocardial dysfunction, heart failure, and multiorgan failure; the primary finding is hyperinflammation. Endothelial dysfunction has not been evaluated in patients with MIS-C. We investigated endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness parameters in patients with MIS-C. The study included 38 pediatric patients (20 males and 18 females aged 4-17 years, mean age 8.89 years) with MIS-C. Thirty-eight age- and sex-matched healthy individuals were enrolled as the control group. Systolic and diastolic ventricular measurements and systolic and diastolic measurements of ascending aorta diameter were performed by M-mode echocardiography. Endothelial dysfunction was evaluated using flow-mediated dilation by measuring the brachial artery diameter with a high-resolution probe. The MIS-C group had lower flow-mediated dilation than did the controls. The MIS-C group had decreased aortic strain and aortic distensibility values and correlations between decreased flow-mediated dilation and reduced aortic strain, aortic distensibility, and reduced ejection fraction. Conclusion: The results show that patients with MIS-C had endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness. Furthermore, the degree of endothelial dysfunction correlated with reduced ejection fractions. What is Known:•Endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness are unknown in patients with MIS-C.•The effect of endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness on decreased cardiac function is unknown. What is New:•MIS-C patients have endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness.•There is a link between left ventricular dysfunction and reduced endothelial dysfunction in patients with MIS-C.

RESUMO

ObjectiveTo investigate fetal anomalies and pregnancy outcomes in pregnancies with persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) to provide assistance in prenatal counseling.MethodsCases diagnosed with PLSVC between January 2015 and January 2020 were obtained from the hospital's electronic system and were analyzed retrospectively.ResultsTwenty-seven cases were analyzed. The prevalence of PLSVC among congenital heart diseases (CHD) was 6.9%. Conotruncal anomalies and renal anomalies were the most common accompanying cardiac and extracardiac anomalies, respectively. Chromosomal abnormality was detected in one fetus. In the postpartum period coarctation of aorta (CoA) was found in one fetus.ConclusionsWhen PLSVC is detected during prenatal ultrasonography, fetal anatomy should be carefully examined because of the anomalies that may accompany it. Prenatal genetic counseling should be given especially to cases with additional anomalies. In isolated cases, cardiac anatomy should be evaluated with repeated echocardiography because of the risk of CoA.

RESUMO

Congenital heart diseases are the most common congenital anomalies during the fetal period. The diagnosis of complex congenital heart diseases in the fetal period is not always easy. While evaluating cardiac abnormalities, performing segmental analysis and step-by-step evaluation will facilitate the diagnosis of prenatal cardiac diseases. Here, we report a rare variant AV (atrioventricular) and VA (ventriculoarterial) discordance pattern detected in utero and identified based on step-by-step segmental analysis.

RESUMO

Sinonasal papillomas are benign epithelial tumors of the sinonasal tract that are associated with a synchronous or metachronous sinonasal carcinoma in a subset of cases. Our group recently identified mutually exclusive EGFR mutations and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in inverted sinonasal papillomas and frequent KRAS mutations in oncocytic sinonasal papillomas. We also demonstrated concordant mutational and HPV infection status in sinonasal papilloma-associated sinonasal carcinomas, confirming a clonal relationship between these tumors. Despite our emerging understanding of the oncogenic mechanisms driving formation of sinonasal papillomas, little is currently known about the molecular mechanisms of malignant progression to sinonasal carcinoma. In the present study, we utilized targeted next-generation DNA sequencing to characterize the molecular landscape of a large cohort of sinonasal papilloma-associated sinonasal carcinomas. As expected, EGFR or KRAS mutations were present in the vast majority of tumors. In addition, highly recurrent TP53 mutations, CDKN2A mutations, and/or CDKN2A copy-number losses were detected; overall, nearly all tumors (n = 28/29; 96.6%) harbored at least one TP53 or CDKN2A alteration. TERT copy-number gains also occurred frequently (27.6%); however, no TERT promoter mutations were identified. Other recurrent molecular alterations included NFE2L2 and PIK3CA mutations and SOX2, CCND1, MYC, FGFR1, and EGFR copy-number gains. Importantly, TP53 mutations and CDKN2A alterations were not detected in matched sinonasal papillomas, suggesting that these molecular events are associated with malignant transformation. Compared to aerodigestive tract squamous cell carcinomas from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project, sinonasal papilloma-associated sinonasal carcinomas have a distinct molecular phenotype, including more frequent EGFR, KRAS, and CDKN2A mutations, TERT copy-number gains, and low-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. These findings shed light on the molecular mechanisms of malignant progression of sinonasal papillomas and may have important diagnostic and therapeutic implications for patients with advanced sinonasal cancer.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Bevacizumab is a chemotherapeutic drug, which selectively binds to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and mainly inhibits angiogenesis and neovascularization. We aimed to study the possible effects of bevacizumab on right ventricular pressure (RVP), right ventricular hypertrophy, and VEGF, in hypoxia - induced pulmonary hypertension (PH) rat model. METHODS: 24 adult Wistar Albino rats were randomly divided into four groups: control group - saline; Bevacizumab Group; PH Group; PH + Bevacizumab Group. In hypoxia - induced model, 10% oxygen and 90% nitrogen were applied in a plexiglas box for eight days to PH Group and PH + Bevacizumab Group. On day eight, RVPs were measured directly from the heart, and then animals were sacrificed. Heart and lung tissues were examined, and Fulton index was measured. RESULTS: RVP, Fulton index, and tissue VEGF scores were significantly lower in PH + Bevacizumab group than PH group: median (ranges), RVP, mmHg, 37.8 (33.0-39.0) and 32.3 (28.0-35.0), p: 0.01; Fulton index: 0.30 (0.29-0.33) and 0.25 (0.24-0.26), p: 0.003; tissue VEGF scores: 5.1 (4.8-5.3) and 4.0 (3.8 4.1), p: 0.004, respectively. DISCUSSION: Bevacizumab, which is indeed an antineoplastic agent, might have a favorable effect on hypoxia - induced pulmonary hypertension.

RESUMO

In neonates supraphysiological oxygen therapy has been demonstrated to cause neuronal death in hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, parietal cortex, and retrosplenial cortex. There is a need for the detection of novel neuroprotective drugs. Neuroprotective effects of lacosamide or memantine have been demonstrated in adult patients with ischemia, trauma and status epilepticus. The effects in immature brains may be different. This study aimed to evaluate neuroprotective effects of lacosamide and memantine treatment in a hyperoxia-induced brain injury model in immature rats. This study was performed in the Animal Experiments Laboratory of Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Medicine. Neonatal Wistar strain rat pups were exposed to hyperoxia (80% oxygen + 20% nitrogen) for five days postnatally. They were divided into five groups; hyperoxia + lacosamide, hyperoxia + memantine, hyperoxia + lacosamide and memantine, hyperoxia + saline, control groups. After termination of the experiment, brain tissues were examined. Neuron counting in examined regions were found to be higher in hyperoxia + memantine and hyperoxia + lacosamide and memantine groups than hyperoxia + saline group. The presence of apoptotic cells evaluated with TUNEL and active Caspase-3 in hyperoxia + memantine and hyperoxia + lacosamide and memantine groups were found to be lower compared to hyperoxia + saline group. This study demonstrates that neuron death and apoptosis in newborn rat brains after hyperoxia is reduced upon memantine treatment. This is the first study to show the effects of memantine and lacosamide on hyperoxia-induced damage in neonatal rat brains.

RESUMO

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a noninvasive therapy based on the photodynamic effect. In this study, we sought to determine intracellular uptake and in vivo photodynamic therapy potential of Zn phthalocyanine-loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNP5) against pancreatic cancer cells. MSNP5 were labeled with 131I; the radiolabeling efficiency was found to 95.5 ± 1.2% in pH 9 and 60 min reaction time. Besides, the highest intracellular uptake yields of 131I-MSNP5 nanoparticles in MIA PaCa-2, AsPC-1, and PANC-1 cells were determined as 43.9 ± 3.8%, 41.8 ± 0.2%, and 37.9 ± 1.3%, respectively, at 24 h incubation time. In vivo PDT studies were performed with subcutaneous xenograft cancer model nude mice with AsPC-1 pancreatic cancer cells. For photodynamic therapy, 685 nm red laser light 100 J/cm2 light dose using and 5-20 µM ZnPc containing MSNP5 concentrations were applied. Histopathological studies revealed that the ratio of necrosis in tumor tissue was higher in the treatment group than the control groups.

RESUMO

Objectives To evaluate the effects of nifedipine treatment on fetal hemodynamics and cardiac function during preterm labor. This prospective study assessed several quantitative parameters of fetal cardiac circulation and function, and found no significant changes at 48 h after nifedipine treatment. These findings suggest that tocolytic nifedipine may be safe for fetuses. It supports clinicians to use nifedipine treatment for tocolysis without any cardiac effect on the fetus. Methods A prospective cohort study was conducted at a tertiary hospital between January 2016 and October 2017. A total of 45 pregnant women who required nifedipine for preterm labor were included in this study. Fetal Doppler ultrasound was performed and fetal systolic and diastolic function was measured prior to, and 48 h after, the first nifedipine treatment. Conventional Doppler parameters were used to evaluate fetal heart function and hemodynamic changes. Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion, mitral annular plane systolic excursion and the sphericity index were also evaluated to assess changes in fetal cardiac morphology. Results No significant changes in fetal Doppler parameters were observed following nifedipine tocolysis. There was no significant difference in the fetal cardiac function parameters of both ventricles before vs. after nifedipine treatment. Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion, mitral annular plane systolic excursion, and sphericity index values were unchanged following nifedipine treatment. Conclusions Oral administration of nifedipine did not to alter fetal cardiac function or morphology. Fetal cardiac parameters and various Doppler indices were unchanged following nifedipine treatment. Maternal nifedipine treatment does not appear to have any significant effect on fetal cardiac function.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study is to compare the effects of tubing length on systemic inflammatory response syndrome and myocardial protection in a rat model of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) from a histological standpoint. METHODS: Twelve adult male Wistar Albino rats weighing >180 g were randomly selected and divided into 2 groups. In 1 group, the pump lines were kept 1 m shorter than standard. The right jugular vein and tail artery were cannulated using a 16-gauge catheter. Animals received 500 IU/kg intravenous heparin. Cardiac index and rectal temperature were set at 2.4 mL and 36°C, respectively. Total line volume was maintained at 8 mL. A roller pump was adjusted to supply a blood flow of 6 to 28 mL/min (mean 10 mL/min), similar to the typical cardiac output of rats. CPB duration was 15 minutes throughout the experiment. After sacrifice, tissue samples were collected from heart, liver, and kidney for histomorphologic examination. RESULTS: All histochemical and histomorphologic analyses, performed by 2 blinded researchers, revealed band loss in cardiomyocytes, mononuclear (MNL) cell infiltration, and impaired fibrillar organization in the standard-line group. Additionally in that group, sinusoidal dilatation in the liver, low-level congestion, focal necrosis, and periportal MNL infiltration were noted. In the shorter-line group, on the other hand, MNL cell infiltration, band loss in myofibrils, and cardiomyocyte degeneration were rarely observed. Higher liver congestion and lower MNL cell infiltration were observed in the shorter-line group. No significant differences were found in kidney samples. CONCLUSION: In a shorter-line roller pump test model, less multiorgan damage and fewer systemic inflammatory responses were observed. It may be applicable to keep CPB lines as close to the table as possible, especially in pediatric cardiac surgery cases.
