RESUMO
Aging is a complex, degenerative process associated with various metabolic abnormalities. Ginsenosides (GS) is the main active components of Panax ginseng, which has anti-aging effects and improves metabolism. However, the anti-aging effect and the mechanism of GS in middle-aged mice has not been elucidated. In this study, GS after 3-month treatment significantly improved the grip strength, fatigue resistance, cognitive indices, and cardiac function of 15-month-old mice. Meanwhile, GS treatment reduced the fat content and obviously inhibited histone H2AX phosphorylation at Ser 139 (γ-H2AX), a marker of DNA damage in major organs, especially in the heart and liver. Further, the correlation analysis of serum metabolomics combined with aging phenotype suggested that myo-inositol (MI) upregulated by GS was positively correlated with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and left ventricular fractional shortening (LVFS), the main indicators of cardiac function. More importantly, liver tissue metabolomic analysis showed that GS increased MI content by promoting the synthesis pathway from phosphatidylcholine (PC) to MI for the inhibition of liver aging. Finally, we proved that MI reduced the percentage of senescence-associated ß-galactosidase staining, γ-H2AX immunofluorescence staining, p21 expression, and the production of reactive oxygen species in H2O2-induced cardiomyocytes. These results suggest that GS can enhance multiple organ functions, especially cardiac function for promoting the healthspan of aging mice, which is mediated by the conversion of PC to MI in the liver and the increase of MI level in the serum. Our study might provide new insights into the potential mechanisms of ginsenosides for prolonging the healthspan of natural aging mice.

Exocyst, a protein complex, plays a crucial role in various cellular functions, including cell polarization, migration, invasion, cytokinesis, and autophagy. Sec3, known as Exoc1, is a key subunit of the Exocyst complex and can be involved in cell survival and apoptosis. In this study, two subtypes of Sec3 were isolated from Epinephelus coioides, an important marine fish in China. The role of E. coioides Sec3 was explored during Singapore grouper iridovirus (SGIV) infection, an important pathogen of marine fish which could induce 90 % mortality. E. coioides Sec3 sequences showed a high similarity with that from other species, indicating the presence of a conserved Sec3 superfamily domain. E. coioides Sec3 mRNA could be detected in all examined tissues, albeit at varying expression levels. SGIV infection could upregulate E. coioides Sec3 mRNA. Upregulated Sec3 significantly promoted SGIV-induced CPE, and the expressions of viral key genes. E. coioides Sec3 could inhibit the activation of NF-κB and AP-1, as well as SGIV-induced cell apoptosis. The results illustrated that E. coioides Sec3 promotes SGIV infection by regulating the innate immune response.

Metal organic framework (MOF)-based adsorbents are appealing for removing low-concentration phosphates with interfering ions in wastewater purification, a new strategy developed to maintain the good activity of metal sites. Here, ZIF-67 was immobilized onto the porous surface of anion exchange resin (D-201) with a high loading amount of 22.0 wt % by a modifiable Co(OH)2 template. We observed that the removal rate of low-concentration phosphate (2 mg P/L) by ZIF-67/D-201 nanocomposites was 98.6%, and more than 90% phosphate adsorption capacity was still maintained, with 5 times molar concentration of interfering ions in the solution. Moreover, after six times of regeneration by solvothermal reaction in the ligand solution, the structure of ZIF-67 was better preserved in D-201 with more than 90% phosphate removal rate. ZIF-67/D-201 could be employed effectively in fixed-bed adsorption runs. By the analysis of experiment and characterization, we found that during the adsorption-regeneration process of ZIF-67/D-201 for phosphate, reversible structural transformation of ZIF-67 and Co3(PO4)2 occurred in D-201. In general, the study reported a new method to develop MOF adsorbents for wastewater treatment.
RESUMO
TRF2 and TRF1 are a key component in shelterin complex that associates with telomeric DNA and protects chromosome ends. BRM is a core ATPase subunit of SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex. Whether and how BRM-SWI/SNF complex is engaged in chromatin end protection by telomeres is unknown. Here, we report that depletion of BRM does not affect heterochromatin state of telomeres, but results in telomere dysfunctional phenomena including telomere uncapping and replication defect. Mechanistically, expression of TRF2 and TRF1 is jointly regulated by BRM-SWI/SNF complex, which is localized to promoter region of both genes and facilitates their transcription. BRM-deficient cells bear increased TRF2-free or TRF1-free telomeres due to insufficient expression. Importantly, BRM depletion-induced telomere uncapping or replication defect can be rescued by compensatory expression of exogenous TRF2 or TRF1, respectively. Together, these results identify a new function of BRM-SWI/SNF complex in enabling functional telomeres for maintaining genome stability.

Telomerase-independent ALT (alternative lengthening of telomeres) cells are characterized by high frequency of telomeric homologous recombination (HR), C-rich extrachromosomal circles (C-circles) and C-rich terminal 5' overhangs (C-overhangs). However, underlying mechanism is poorly understood. Here, we show that both C-circle and C-overhang form when replication fork collapse is induced by strand break at telomeres. We find that endogenous DNA break predominantly occur on C-rich strand of telomeres in ALT cells, resulting in high frequency of replication fork collapse. While collapsed forks could be rescued by replication fork regression leading to telomeric homologous recombination, those unresolved are converted to C-circles and C-overhang at lagging and leading synthesized strand, respectively. Meanwhile, multiple hallmarks of ALT are provoked, suggesting that strand break-induced replication stress underlies ALT. These findings provide a molecular basis underlying telomeric HR and biogenesis of C-circle and C-overhang, thus implicating the specific mechanism to resolve strand break-induced replication defect at telomeres in ALT cells.

Safflower seed oil (SSO) is considered to be an excellent edible oil since it contains abundant essential unsaturated fatty acids and lipid concomitants. However, the traditional alkali-refined deacidification process of SSO results in a serious loss of bioactive components of the oil and also yields massive amounts of wastewater. In this study, SSO was first extracted by ultrasonic-assisted ethanol extraction (UAEE), and the extraction process was optimized using random centroid optimization. By exploring the effects of ethanol concentration, solid−liquid ratio, ultrasonic time, and the number of deacidification times, the optimum conditions for the deacidification of safflower seed oil were obtained as follows: ethanol concentration 100%, solid−liquid ratio 1:4, ultrasonic time 29 min, and number of deacidification cycles (×2). The deacidification rate was 97.13% ± 0.70%, better than alkali-refining (72.16% ± 0.13%). The values of acid, peroxide, anisidine and total oxidation of UAEE-deacidified SSO were significantly lower than those of alkali-deacidified SSO (p < 0.05). The contents of the main lipid concomitants such as tocopherols, polyphenols, and phytosterols in UAEE-decidified SSO were significantly higher than those of the latter (p < 0.05). For instance, the DPPH radical scavenging capacity of UAEE-processed SSO was significantly higher than that of alkali refining (p < 0.05). The Pearson bivariate correlation analysis before and after the deacidification process demonstrated that the three main lipid concomitants in SSO were negatively correlated with the index of peroxide, anisidine, and total oxidation values. The purpose of this study was to provide an alternative method for the deacidification of SSO that can effectively remove free fatty acids while maintaining the nutritional characteristics, physicochemical properties, and antioxidant capacity of SSO.

In order to investigate the situation of heavy metal pollution in the heavy metal industry in Gansu Province, a large copper mining province, two large and typical copper mining and beneficiation enterprises with differences in topographic features, climatic conditions, and soil types were selected as the target of this study based on similar ore types and beneficiation processes. Around these two enterprises, geochemical baselines of the six heavy metals were established, while the degree of local soil heavy metal pollution and potential hazards to humans were assessed based on statistical analysis, single-factor and multi-factor index analysis, and health risk evaluation models. In addition, Spearman's correlation analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis were used to explore the intrinsic association between each heavy metal in the two mining industries to reveal the pattern of soil heavy metal pollution in the copper mining and beneficiation industry and to propose targeted measures to improve and prevent soil heavy metal pollution. The results showed that the heavy metal pollution in the soil around Shengxi Mining Co., Ltd. of Subei County (SX enterprise) was higher than that around Yangba Copper Co., Ltd. of Gansu Province (YB enterprise), but the two enterprises had similar patterns of pollution, with an overall medium level of pollution. The carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks for children and adults were within acceptable limits for both enterprises. Besides, the correlation between the different heavy metals to similarity in their sources of contamination and the different degrees of association between the soil heavy metals of the two enterprises due to their environmental characteristics.

Despite the various utilities of cyclopropenes (CPEs) in organic synthesis and ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP), their vinyl addition polymerization has been sporadically explored, and the corresponding living/controlled polymerization remains a formidable challenge. The major obstacle is the intrinsic instability of the intermediate and the kinetic barrier for propagation. Herein a living/controlled vinyl addition polymerization of 3-methyl-3-carboxymethyl CPEs, catalyzed by [Pd(π-allyl)Cl]2 ligated by a sulfinamide bisphosphine ligand, is demonstrated. A plot of the number-average molecular weight (Mn) versus the conversion was found to be linear during the polymerization, with the molecular weight dispersity (Mw/Mn) remaining narrow. The Mn values increased linearly with the increase in the initial feed ratio of monomer to catalyst. Furthermore, controlled block copolymerization via sequential monomer addition was successful. All of these points corroborate the living nature of this polymerization. The synergistic coordination action of the catalyst ligand and the lateral carbonyl group in the cyclopropene moiety plays a key role in achieving the efficient polymerization in a living/controlled manner.
RESUMO
Mammals have evolved different tooth phenotypes that are hypothesized to be associated with feeding habits. However, the genetic basis for the linkage has not been well explored. In this study, we investigated 13 tooth-related genes, including seven enamel-related genes (AMELX, AMBN, ENAM, AMTN, ODAM, KLK4 and MMP20) and six dentin-related genes (DSPP, COL1A1, DMP1, IBSP, MEPE and SPP1), from 63 mammals to determine their evolutionary history. Our results showed that different evolutionary histories have evolved among divergent feeding habits in mammals. There was stronger positive selection for eight genes (ENAM, AMTN, ODAM, KLK4, DSPP, DMP1, COL1A1, MEPE) in herbivore lineages. In addition, AMELX, AMBN, ENAM, AMTN, MMP20 and COL1A1 underwent accelerated evolution in herbivores. While relatively strong positive selection was detected in IBSP, SPP1, and DSPP, accelerated evolution was only detected for MEPE and SPP1 genes among the carnivorous lineages. We found positive selection on AMBN and ENAM genes for omnivorous primates in the catarrhini clade. Interestingly, a significantly positive association between the evolutionary rate of ENAM, ODAM, KLK4, MMP20 and the average enamel thickness was found in primates. Additionally, we found molecular convergence in some amino acid sites of tooth-related genes among the lineages whose feeding habit are similar. The positive selection of related genes might promote the formation and bio-mineralization of tooth enamel and dentin, which would make the tooth structure stronger. Our results revealed that mammalian tooth-related genes have experienced variable evolutionary histories, which provide some new insights into the molecular basis of dietary adaptation in mammals.

BACKGROUND The association between leptin receptor (LEPR) polymorphisms and keloids is still unclear. Our study aimed to explore the association between LEPR gene polymorphisms and keloids in the Chinese Han population. MATERIAL AND METHODS We implemented a case-control study in a cohort of 352 keloid patients and 299 healthy controls to analyze the correlation between 4 SNPs (rs1137101, rs1938496, rs6588147, and rs7555955) and keloids. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood by using TGuide M16 (Tiangen). Genotyping of LEPR SNPs was performed using an improved multiple ligase detection reaction (iMLDR) by Shanghai Genesky Bio-Tech Co., Ltd. RESULTS We found that patients caring the AA genotype of rs1137101 and the CC genotype rs1938496 tend to have the increased risk of keloids (P=0.026, P=0.047). Carrying the GA, AA gene type, and G allele frequencies of rs7555955, patients were more likely to have to keloids (P=0.030, P=0.016, P=0.018, respectively). There were no significant differences in genotype distribution and allele frequencies of rs6588147 between cases and controls. The association of rs1137101 and rs7555955 under dominant, recessive, and allele models exhibited significant differences among family-history keloid patients, no-family-history keloid groups, and normal controls (χ²=6.471, P=0.039; χ²=6.477, P=0.039; χ²=6.197, P=0.045, respectively). Similarly, the OR of rs1137101 in the recessive model was significantly higher in patients with a family history of keloids than those in controls. Nonetheless, there are significant ORs of rs1938496 and rs6588147 among the mild-moderate keloid, severe keloid, and control groups. CONCLUSIONS The LEPR gene polymorphisms are associated with keloid formation and severity, especially in patients with a positive family history.

BACKGROUND: Fibrinogen, lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein levels were associated with vascular calcification, but their predictive capacity for a vascular calcification was not reported. AIMS: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the predictive efficacy of fibrinogen, lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein by retrospective analysis of fibrinogen, lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein levels in patients with vascular calcification, to explore the effective predictive indexes of vascular calcification, to predict the occurrence and development of vascular calcification, and to provide a simple and effective method for the diagnosis and prevention of vascular calcification.Hypothesis: Fibrinogen is a good prediction of vascular calcification. METHODS: Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to assess the effects of fibrinogen, lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein on the CV, and the ROC curve of the predictive model was used to assess its predictive effectiveness. We collected the relevant indicators of 462 patients admitted to the Department of Vascular Surgery of the First Hospital of Hebei Medical University from August 2018 to July 2020, including 189 patients with vascular calcification (40.9%) and 273 patients without vascular calcification (59.1%); 75% of the collected data is used for modeling (modeling group) and 25% for verification (verification group). RESULTS: Results from the multivariate analysis showed fibrinogen, lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein to be independent predictors of vascular calcification. Next, the three-factor models are developed respectively. The area below the ROC curve in the fibrinogen, lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein forecast model was 0.8018, 0.7348, and 0.7019, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Fibrinogen is more predictive than high-density lipoprotein and lipoprotein in patients with arteriosclerosis.

Panax spp. (Araliaceae family) are widely used medicinal plants and they mainly include Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer, Panax quinquefolium L. (American ginseng), and Panax notoginseng (notoginseng). Polysaccharides are the main active ingredients in these plants and have demonstrated diverse pharmacological functions, but comparisons of isolation methods, structural features, and bioactivities of these polysaccharides have not yet been reported. This review summarizes recent advances associated with 112 polysaccharides from ginseng, 25 polysaccharides from American ginseng, and 36 polysaccharides from notoginseng and it compares the differences in extraction, purification, structural features, and bioactivities. Most studies focus on ginseng polysaccharides and comparisons are typically made with the polysaccharides from American ginseng and notoginseng. For the extraction, purification, and structural analysis, the processes are similar for the polysaccharides from the three Panax species. Previous studies determined that 55 polysaccharides from ginseng, 18 polysaccharides from American ginseng, and 9 polysaccharides from notoginseng exhibited anti-tumor activity, immunoregulatory effects, anti-oxidant activity, and other pharmacological functions, which are mediated by multiple signaling pathways, including mitogen-activated protein kinase, nuclear factor kappa B, or redox balance pathways. This review can provide new insights into the similarities and differences among the polysaccharides from the three Panax species, which can facilitate and guide further studies to explore the medicinal properties of the Araliaceae family used in traditional Chinese medicine.

Our present study was to prepare a biomass-supported adsorbents with high adsorptive capacity and high selectivity to prevent the accelerated eutrophication in water body. To this end, different metal hydroxide (La, Zr and Fe) first was successfully loaded on chitosan microspheres. Then the quaternary ammonium group with different content was introduced into the adsorbent by polymerization. By comparison of adsorption properties, chitosan-La(OH)3-quaternary ammonium-20% (CS-La-N-20%) has strong adsorption to phosphate (160 mg/g) by immobilizing nano-sized La(OH)3 within a quaternary-aminated chitosan and it maintain high adsorption in the presence of salt ions. The pH results indicated that the CS-La-N-20% would effectively sequestrate phosphate over a wide pH range between 3 and 7 without significant La3+ leaching. What's more, adsorption capacity on the introduce of positively charged quanternary-aminated groups was significantly higher than that of the unmodified adsorbents at alkaline conditions. The column adsorption capacity reached 1300 bed volumes (BV) when phosphate concentration decreased until 0.5 mg/L at 6 BV/hr. The column adsorption/desorption reveals that no significant capacity loss is observed, indicating excellent stability and repeated use property. Characterizations revealed that phosphate adsorption on CS-La-N-20% through ligand exchange (impregnated nano-La(OH)3) and electrostatic attraction (positively charged quanternary-aminated groups). All the results suggested that CS-La-N-20% can serve as a promising adsorbent for preferable phosphate removal in realistic application.

Linear chromosome ends are capped by telomeres that have been previously reported to adopt a t-loop structure. The lack of simple methods for detecting t-loops has hindered progress in understanding the dynamics of t-loop formation and its function in protecting chromosome ends. Here, we employed a classical two-dimensional agarose gel method (2D gel method) to innovatively apply to t-loop detection. Briefly, restriction fragments of genomic DNA were separated in a 2D gel, and the telomere sequence was detected by in-gel hybridization with telomeric probe. Using this method, we found that t-loops are present throughout the cell cycle, and t-loop formation tightly couples to telomere replication. We also observed that t-loop abundance positively correlates with chromatin condensation, i.e. cells with less compact telomeric chromatin (ALT cells and trichostatin A (TSA)-treated HeLa cells) exhibited fewer t-loops. Moreover, we observed that telomere dysfunction-induced foci, ALT-associated promyelocytic leukemia bodies, and telomere sister chromatid exchanges are activated upon TSA-induced loss of t-loops. These findings confirm the importance of the t-loop in protecting linear chromosomes from damage or illegitimate recombination.

Repetitive DNA is prone to replication fork stalling, which can lead to genome instability. Here, we find that replication fork stalling at telomeres leads to the formation of t-circle-tails, a new extrachromosomal structure that consists of circular telomeric DNA with a single-stranded tail. Structurally, the t-circle-tail resembles cyclized leading or lagging replication intermediates that are excised from the genome by topoisomerase II-mediated cleavage. We also show that the DNA damage repair machinery NHEJ is required for the formation of t-circle-tails and for the resolution of stalled replication forks, suggesting that NHEJ, which is normally constitutively suppressed at telomeres, is activated in the context of replication stress. Inhibition of NHEJ or knockout of DNA-PKcs impairs telomere replication, leading to multiple-telomere sites (MTS) and telomere shortening. Collectively, our results support a "looping-out" mechanism, in which the stalled replication fork is cut out and cyclized to form t-circle-tails, and broken DNA is religated. The telomere loss induced by replication stress may serve as a new factor that drives replicative senescence and cell aging.

Cetaceans are a suborder of secondarily adapted aquatic mammals with an enigmatic history involving a transition from land to sea approximately 55 Mya. During the transition period, cetaceans would have faced many new pathogen challenges, but limited information is available about the adaptive immune system of these mammals. The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) family plays a key role in antigen recognition and presentation in adaptive immunity, which is believed to have evolved in response to pathogens. In the present study, MHC class II loci were characterized in 7 published cetacean genome assemblies and the genomic organization of cetaceans was compared with that of their terrestrial relatives, the cow, sheep, and pig. A total of 9 MHC class II loci were identified in the cetacean genomes: DRA, DRB, DQA, DQB, DPB, DOA, DOB, DMA, and DMB. Sequences from 8 of the 9 genes included intact coding regions and were presumably functional. The organization of the MHC class II loci was conserved across the examined mammalian species, whereas the orientation and number of the alpha and beta genes varied among the species. The phylogenetic reconstruction of all MHC genes from Cetartiodactyla suggested that alpha and beta genes had different topologies. Additionally, based on a phylogenetic reconstruction of the multi-locus DRB, 2 (DRB1 and DRB2) of the 4 putative gene copies were hypothesized to have duplicated and evolved during the radiation of cetaceans.

BACKGROUND: Cetacean brain size expansion is an enigmatic event in mammalian evolution, yet its genetic basis remains poorly explored. Here, all exons of the seven primary microcephaly (MCPH) genes that play key roles in size regulation during brain development were investigated in representative cetacean lineages. RESULTS: Sequences of MCPH2-7 genes were intact in cetaceans but frameshift mutations and stop codons was identified in MCPH1. Extensive positive selection was identified in four of six intact MCPH genes: WDR62, CDK5RAP2, CEP152, and ASPM. Specially, positive selection at CDK5RAP2 and ASPM were examined along lineages of odontocetes with increased encephalization quotients (EQ) and mysticetes with reduced EQ but at WDR62 only found along odontocete lineages. Interestingly, a positive association between evolutionary rate (ω) and EQ was identified for CDK5RAP2 and ASPM. Furthermore, we tested the binding affinities between Calmodulin (CaM) and ASPM IQ motif in cetaceans because only CaM combined with IQ, can ASPM perform the function in determining brain size. Preliminary function assay showed binding affinities between CaM and IQ motif of the odontocetes with increased EQ was stronger than for the mysticetes with decreased EQ. In addition, evolution rate of ASPM and CDK5RAP2 were significantly related to mean group size (as one measure of social complexity). CONCLUSIONS: Our study investigated the genetic basis of cetacean brain size evolution. Significant positive selection was examined along lineages with both increased and decreased EQ at CDK5RAP2 and ASPM, which is well matched with cetacean complex brain size evolution. Evolutionary rate of CDK5RAP2 and ASPM were significantly related to EQ, suggesting that these two genes may have contributed to EQ expansion in cetaceans. This suggestion was further indicated by our preliminary function test that ASPM might be mainly linked to evolutionary increases in EQ. Most strikingly, our results suggested that cetaceans evolved large brains to manage complex social systems, consisting with the 'social brain hypothesis', as evolutionary rate of ASPM and CDK5RAP2 were significantly related to mean group size.

BACKGROUND: Diversity of hair in marine mammals was suggested as an evolutionary innovation to adapt aquatic environment, yet its genetic basis remained poorly explored. We scanned α-keratin genes, one major structural components of hair, in 16 genomes of mammalian species, including seven cetaceans, two pinnipeds, polar bear, manatee and five terrestrial species. RESULTS: Extensive gene loss and high pseudogenization rate of α-keratin genes were identified in cetaceans when compared to terrestrial artiodactylans (average number of α-keratins 37.29 vs. 58.33; pseudogenization rate 29.89% vs. 8.00%), especially of hair follicle-specific keratin genes (average pseudogenization rate in cetaceans of 43.88% relative to 3.80% artiodactylian average). Compared to toothed whale, the much more number of intact functional α-keratin genes was examined in the baleen whale that had specific keratinized baleen. In contrast, the number of keratin genes in pinnipeds, polar bear and manatee were comparable to those of their respective terrestrial relatives. Additionally, four keratin genes (K39, K9, K42, and K74) were found to be pseudogenes or lost uniquely in cetaceans and manatees. CONCLUSIONS: Species-specific evolution of α-keratin gene family identified in the marine mammals might be responsible for their different hair characteristics. Increased gene loss and pseudogenization rate identified in cetacean lineages was likely to contribute to hair-less phenotype to adaptation for complete aquatic environment. However, the fully aquatic manatee still remained the comparable number of intact genes to its terrestrial relative, probably due to its perioral bristles and bristle-like hairs on the oral disk. By contrast, similar evolution pattern of α-keratin gene repertoire in the pinnipeds, polar bear and their terrestrial relatives was likely due to abundant hair to keep warm when they went ashore. Interestingly, some keratin genes were exclusively lost in cetaceans and manatees, likely as a result of convergent hair-loss phenotype to inhabit completely aquatic environment in both groups.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical efficacy of the simple expansion of the spinal canal decompression, decompression plus hydroxyapatite/polyamide artificial lamina reconstruction, and decompression plus titanium mesh reconstruction in the treatment of spinal canal stenosi. METHODS: A total of 39 patients with lumbar spinal stenosis (with or without disc herniation, spondylolisthesis less than I degree), who received therapy of surgery from January, 2011 to January, 2012, were retrospectively analyzed. All patients were divided into 3 groups: a laminectomy surgery alone group (group A, n=15), a decompression plus hydroxyapatite/polyamide artificial lamina reconstruction group (group B, n=14), and a laminectomy decompression plus reconstruction with titanium mesh group (group C, n=10). Intraoperative situation, the postoperative excellent rate and JOA score were analyzed. RESULTS: The duration and blood loss in surgery in group A was much less than that in the group B and C (P<0.05), but there was no statistical significance between the group B and C. The postoperative excellent rate in three groups were similar in 3 months (P>0.05). Twelve months after the surgery, the group B and C showed advantage over the group A (P<0.05). JOA scores in 3 and 12 months after the surgery were all greater than that before the surgery (P<0.05). There was no difference in excellent rates in 3 groups in 3 months after the operation (P>0.05); the group B and C showed advantage over the group A in 12 months after the operation (P<0.05). No serious complications were related to the surgery in the 3 groups. Imaging changes were not significant difference. CONCLUSION: The decompression plus hydroxyapatite/polyamide artificial lamina reconstruction and the decompression plus titanium mesh reconstruction show advantages in long-term effect over the simple vertebral canal decompression.

This study explored the hydrothermal synthesis of zeolites in a homogeneous reactor using coal fly ash (CFA) as a raw material via a two-step method at normal pressure. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffraction analysis showed that the synthetic products has the basic structural unit of microporous zeolite molecular sieves, and consiste of zeolite 4A and zeolite X. The ability of zeolites synthesized from CFAto adsorb Cu(ll) was studied. The optimal conditions for adsorption were as follows: pH 5 and dosage of modified CFA 4g l(-1). The isothermal adsorption of zeolites of Cu(ll) showed that the maximum adsorption quantity ranged from 69.44 (at 20 degrees C) to 140.85 mg g(-1) (at 50 degrees C). Adsorption kinetics analysis showed that chemical adsorption was the rate-controlling step. Apparent activation energy data, however, showed that the process of adsorption of Cu(II) had the features of physical adsorption. Thus, the adsorption process included both chemical and physical adsorption.
