RESUMO

Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) is the generation of light induced by an electrochemical reaction, driven by electricity. Here, an all-optical ECL (AO-ECL) system is developped, which triggers ECL by the illumination of electrically autonomous "integrated" photoelectrochemical devices immersed in the electrolyte. Because these systems are made using small and cheap devices, they can be easily prepared and readily used by any laboratories. They are based on commercially available p-i-n Si photodiodes (≈1 € unit-1), coupled with well-established ECL-active and catalytic materials, directly coated onto the component leads by simple and fast wet processes. Here, a Pt coating (known for its high activity for reduction reactions) and carbon paint (known for its optimal ECL emission properties) are deposited at cathode and anode leads, respectively. In addition to its optimized light absorption properties, using the commercial p-i-n Si photodiode eliminates the need for a complicated manufacturing process. It is shown that the device can emit AO-ECL by illumination with polychromatic (simulated sunlight) or monochromatic (near IR) light sources to produce visible photons (425 nm) that can be easily observed by the naked eye or recorded with a smartphone camera. These low-cost off-grid AO-ECL devices open broad opportunities for remote photodetection and portable bioanalytical tools.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cutis laxa is a connective tissue disease caused by abnormal synthesis or secretion of skin elastic fibers, leading to skin flabby and saggy in various body parts. It can be divided into congenital cutis laxa and acquired cutis laxa, and inherited cutis laxa syndromes is more common in clinic. METHODS: In this study, we reported a case of a Han-Chinese male newborn with ATP6V0A2 gene variant leading to cutis laxa. The proband was identified by whole-exome sequencing to determine the novel variant, and their parents were verified by Sanger sequencing. Bioinformatics analysis and minigene assay were used to verify the effect of this variant on splicing function. RESULTS: The main manifestations of the proband are skin laxity, abnormal facial features, and enlargement of the anterior fontanelle. Whole-exome sequencing showed that the newborn carried a non-canonical splicing-site variant c.117 + 5G > T, p. (?) in ATP6V0A2 gene. Sanger sequencing showed that both parents of the proband carried the heterozygous variant. The results of bioinformatics analysis and minigene assay displayed that the variant site affected the splicing function of pre-mRNA of the ATP6V0A2 gene. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, it was identified that ATP6V0A2 gene c. 117 + 5G > T may be the cause of the disease. The non-canonical splicing variants of ATP6V0A2 gene were rarely reported in the past, and this variant expanded the variants spectrum of the gene. The functional study of minigene assay plays a certain role in improving the level of evidence for the pathogenicity of splicing variants, which lays a foundation for prenatal counseling and follow-up gene therapy.

RESUMO

Lilium is a genus of important ornamental plants with many colouring pattern variations. Lilium auratum is the parent of Oriental hybrid lilies. A typical feature of L. auratum is the presence of red-orange special raised spots named papillae on the interior tepals. Unlike the usual raised spots, the papillae are slightly rounded or connected into sheets and usually have hairy tips. To elucidate the potential genes regulating papillae development in L. auratum, we performed high-throughput sequencing of its tepals at different stages. Genes involved in the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway were significantly enriched during the colouration of the papillae, and CHS, F3H, F3'H, FLS, DFR, ANS, and UFGT were significantly upregulated. To identify the key genes involved in the papillae development of L. auratum, we performed weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) and further analysed four modules. In total, 51, 24, 1, and 6 hub genes were identified in four WGCNA modules, MEbrown, MEyellow, MEpurple, and MEred, respectively. Then, the coexpression networks were constructed, and important genes involved in trichome development and coexpressed with anthocyanin biosynthesis genes, such as TT8, TTG1, and GEM, were identified. These results indicated that the papillae are essentially trichomes that accumulate anthocyanins. Finally, we randomly selected 12 hub genes for qRT-PCR analysis to verify the accuracy of our RNA-Seq analysis. Our results provide new insights into the papillae development in L. auratum flowers.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The wild variety Fritillaria taipaiensis E.B (EB) is known for its superior therapeutic effects, but its limited production cannot meet demand. As a result, the cultivated variety F. taipaiensis P. Y. Li (PY) has been widely grown. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive analysis comparing EB and PY in terms of external features, sipeimine content, metabolome and chloroplast genome to differentiate these two varieties. RESULTS: Our research revealed that the petals and pods of EB are green, while those of PY have purple markings. The bulbs of EB contain significantly higher levels of sipeimine compared to those of PY. Metabolomic analysis identified 56 differentially expressed metabolites (DMs), with 23 upregulated and 33 downregulated in EB bulbs. Particularly, 3-hydroxycinnamic acid and secoxyloganin may serve as distinctive DMs. These DMs were associated with 17 KEGG pathways, including pyrimidine metabolism, alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism, and galactose metabolism. Differences in the length of the chloroplast genome were primarily observed in the large single-copy (LSC) region, with the largest variation in the trnH-GUC-psbA region. The placement of the trnH gene and the rps gene in proximity to the LSC/IRb boundary differs between EB and PY. CONCLUSION: The results of this study provide valuable insights for the introduction and comprehensive development of wild F. taipaiensis from a scientific perspective. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) is widely employed for medical diagnosis and imaging. Despite its remarkable analytical performances, the technique remains intrinsically limited by the essential need for an external power supply and electrical wires for electrode connections. Here, we report an electrically autonomous solution leading to a paradigm change by designing a fully integrated all-optical wireless monolithic photoelectrochemical device based on a nanostructured Si photovoltaic junction modified with catalytic coatings. Under illumination with light ranging from visible to near-infrared, photogenerated holes induce the oxidation of the ECL reagents and thus the emission of visible ECL photons. The blue ECL emission is easily viewed with naked eyes and recorded with a smartphone. A new light emission scheme is thus introduced where the ECL emission energy (2.82 eV) is higher than the excitation energy (1.18 eV) via an intermediate electrochemical process. In addition, the mapping of the photoelectrochemical activity by optical microscopy reveals the minority carrier interfacial transfer mechanism at the nanoscale. This breakthrough provides an all-optical strategy for generalizing ECL without the need for electrochemical setups, electrodes, wiring constraints, and specific electrochemical knowledge. This simplest ECL configuration reported so far opens new opportunities to develop imaging and wireless bioanalytical systems such as portable point-of-care sensing devices.

RESUMO

The combination of chirality and phase-transition materials has broad application prospects. Therefore, based on the quasi-spherical theory and the thought strategy of introducing chirality, we have successfully synthesized a pair of chiral enantiomeric ligands (R/S)-triethyl-(2-hydroxypropyl)ammonium iodide, which can be combined with a tin hexachloride anion to obtain a pair of new organic-inorganic hybrid enantiomeric high-temperature plastic phase-transition materials: (R/S)-[CH3 CH(OH)CH2 N(CH2 CH3 )3 ]2 SnCl6 (1-R/1-S), which have a high temperature phase transition of Tc =384 K, crystallize in the P21 chiral space group at room temperature, and have obvious CD signals. In addition, compounds 1-R and 1-S have a good low-loss dielectric switch and broadband gap. This work is conducive to the research into chiral high-temperature reversible plastic phase-transition materials, and promotes the development of multi-functional phase-transition materials.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) modulates leukemia cell apoptosis, proliferation, and cell cycle arrest in the progression of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). This study intended to investigate the dysregulation of PLK1 and its association with induction therapy response and prognosis in pediatric ALL patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Bone marrow mononuclear cell samples were collected from 90 pediatric ALL patients at baseline and on the 15th day of induction therapy (D15), as well as from 20 controls after enrollment, for the detection of PLK1 by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: PLK1 was increased in pediatric ALL patients compared with controls ( P <0.001). In pediatric ALL patients, PLK1 decreased from baseline to D15 ( P <0.001). Lower PLK1 at baseline was associated with a good prednisone response ( P =0.002), while decreased PLK1 at D15 was related to good prednisone response ( P =0.001), better bone marrow response ( P =0.025), and favorable risk stratification ( P =0.014). In addition, reduced PLK1 at baseline was linked with better event-free survival (EFS) ( P =0.046), and decreased PLK1 at D15 was related to prolonged EFS ( P =0.027) and overall survival (OS) ( P =0.047). Moreover, PLK1 decline ≥25% was linked to favorable EFS ( P =0.015) and OS ( P =0.008). Further multivariate Cox proportional regression analysis revealed that PLK1 decline ≥25% was independently linked with prolonged EFS (hazard ratio (HR)=0.324, P =0.024) and OS (HR=0.211, P =0.019). CONCLUSION: The reduction of PLK1 after induction therapy reflects a good treatment response and correlates with a favorable survival profile in pediatric ALL patients.

RESUMO

This large-scale and longitudinal study examines early home support for learning, formal/informal home mathematics activities, and their associations with children's mathematical development between age two and six. Data were collected in Germany between 2012 and 2018, N = 1184 (49% girls, 51% boys), and 15% of children had parents with a migration history. Linguistically and mathematically stimulating, attentive, and responsive parent-child engagement at age two predicted children's mathematical skills at age four and six (small-to-medium effect size). Both formal and informal home mathematical activities at age five predicted children's mathematical skills at age six (small effect size), and were associated with children's prior mathematics attainment. This study also provides indicators where individual differences and social circumstances are relevant to understanding different early mathematics outcomes.

RESUMO

AIM: Depression is a psychiatric disease which is accompanied by metabolic disorder. Though depression has been widely studied, its metabolism is yet to be illustrated. We aimed to manifest the underlying mechanisms to diagnose depression. METHODS: One hundred thirty serum samples, including 65 patients and 65 healthy controls from different hospitals (training and validation cohorts), were recruited into the research. Sensitive Profiling for ChemoSelective Derivatization Carboxylomics (SPCSDCarboxyl) was applied to deeply hunt for the differential metabolites. Then, the serum, CSF, and hippocampus from depression rat models (CUMS group) were used to further confirm the results. Additionally, the co-occurrence between enzymes and biomarkers, as well as the combinatorial marker panel and the correlation of biomarkers among serum, CSF, or hippocampus were elucidated. RESULTS: Two hundred eight metabolites were identified from the sera of patients. Proline, 1-pyrroline-5-carboxylate (P5C), and glutamic acid could discriminate patients from healthy humans and were confirmed to be the potential biomarkers. After further validation through CUMS rats, proline, and P5C were enriched, while glutamic acid was depleted in the CUMS group. The co-occurrence analysis of enzymes and biomarkers indicated that they could be used for the diagnosis of depression. Moreover, the combinatorial marker panel and the correlation analysis of biomarkers between serum and CSF or between serum and hippocampus revealed that serum could be an alternative approach to directly reflect the potential physiological mechanisms and diagnose depression instead of brain samples. CONCLUSION: These integrated methods may facilitate the identification of biomarkers and help manifest the underlying mechanisms of depression.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: MicroRNA (miR)-185-5p participates in the pathology of asthma by regulating immune imbalance, inflammation, periostin synthesis, and smooth muscle contraction. This study intended to explore the dysregulation of miR-185p and its correlation with T-helper (Th)1, Th2 cells, and inflammatory cytokines in childhood asthma. METHODS: In 150 childhood asthma patients and 30 healthy controls (HCs), miR-185-5p from peripheral blood mononuclear cells was detected using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction, Th cells from peripheral blood samples were detected using flow cytometry, inflammatory cytokines from serum samples were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: MiR-185-5p was increased in childhood asthma patients versus HCs [median (interquartile range (IQR)): 2.315 (1.770-3.855) versus 1.005 (0.655-1.520)] (P < 0.001). Meanwhile, miR-185-5p was negatively associated with Th1 cells (P = 0.035) but positively correlated with Th2 cells (P = 0.006) and IL-4 (P = 0.003) in childhood asthma patients; however, miR-185-5p was not linked to Th1 cells, Th2 cells, IFN-γ, or IL-4 in HCs (all P > 0.05). In addition, miR-185-5p was positively related to TNF-α (P < 0.001), IL-1ß (P = 0.015), and IL-6 (P = 0.008) in childhood asthma patients, miR-185-5p was only linked to TNF-α (P = 0.040) but not IL-1ß or IL-6 (both P > 0.05) in HCs. Moreover, miR-185-5p was increased in exacerbated childhood asthma patients versus remissive patients [median (IQR): 3.170 (2.070-4.905) versus 1.900 (1.525-2.615)] (P < 0.001). Besides, miR-185-5p was highest in patients with severe exacerbation followed by patients with moderate exacerbation, and lowest in patients with mild exacerbation (P = 0.010). CONCLUSION: MiR-185-5p is associated with imbalanced Th1/Th2 cells, increased inflammatory cytokines along with elevated exacerbation risk, and severity in childhood asthma patients.

RESUMO

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of exercise cognitive combined training (ECCT) compared with non-ECCT on physical function in cognitively healthy older adults. Databases were searched for randomized controlled trials from inception to December 2, 2021, and 22 studies (1,091 participants, Mage = 74.90) were included in the meta-review. The Cochrane Risk of Bias and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation tools were used for quality assessments. ECCT improved gait speed (mean difference: 0.06 m/s, 95% CI [confidence interval] [0.02, 0.11]; 446 participants, 11 studies) and balance (standardized mean difference: 0.38, 95% CI [0.14, 0.61]; 292 participants, seven studies). Simultaneous ECCT, but not nonsimultaneous ECCT, improved gait speed (mean difference: 0.11 m/s, 95% CI [0.07, 0.15]), balance (standardized mean difference: 0.40, 95% CI [0.16, 0.64]), and functional mobility (mean difference: -0.85 s, 95% CI [-1.63, -0.07]; 327 participants, nine studies). Future research should focus on the duration and form of ECCT intervention optimal for improving the functional activities of older individuals.

RESUMO

Peer play ability may be a protective factor against childhood mental health difficulties but there is lack of empirical evidence to support this hypothesis. We conducted longitudinal structural equation modelling study over a population cohort (N = 1676) to examine the effect of age 3 peer play ability on children's age 7 mental health outcomes (measured by the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire subscales). We modelled effects for the entire population and two sub-groups at high-risk for mental health problems based on age 3 temperament. Controlling for demographic variables, temperament, maternal distress, play with parents and number of siblings, better peer play ability at age 3 years predicted lower risk of problems on all 4 SDQ subscales at age 7 years for the general population. For the low-persistence subgroup, better peer play ability at age 3 predicted lower risk of age 7 hyperactivity, emotional and peer problems, whereas better peer play ability at age 3 predicted only lower risk of age 7 hyperactivity for the high-reactivity group. Taken together our results provide evidence that supports the hypothesis that early peer play ability may be a protective factor against later mental health difficulties. We conclude that further research aimed at establishing causation is worth pursuing.

RESUMO

This study developed an optimal pre-processing technique for the reference substance of the classic formula Gualou Xiebai Banxia Decoction(GXBD) and established a comprehensive quality control method for GXBD reference substance to provide a reference for its overall quality evaluation. The authors prepared 15 batches of GXBD samples and innovatively used the extracted ion chromatogram under the base peak chromatogram mode to establish a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(LC-MS) fingerprint, identify characteristic peaks, and perform quantitative analysis of indicator components. The yield of the 15 batches of GXBD samples ranged from 50.28% to 76.20%. In the positive ion mode, 12 common characteristic peaks were detected in the LC-MS fingerprint, and the structures of five common peaks were identified by comparison with reference standards. The similarity between the fingerprint profiles of different batches of samples and the reference fingerprint profile ranged from 0.920 to 0.984. Finally, liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry(LC-QQQ/MS) in multiple reaction monitoring(MRM) mode was used to determine the content of eight indicator components in GXBD, including loliolide, chrysoeriol, rutin, cucurbitacin D, macrostemonoside Ⅰ, 25S-timosaponin B Ⅱ, 25R-timosaponin B Ⅱ, and peptide proline-tryptophan-valine-proline-glycine(PWVPG). The method established in this study can reduce matrix interference in the compound, and it has good accuracy, stability, and practical value. It effectively reflects the quality attributes of GXBD samples and can be used for the comprehensive quality control of GXBD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Gut microbiota has been found involved in neuronal functions and neurological disorders. Whether and how gut microbiota impacts chronic somatic pain disorders remain elusive. METHODS: Neuropathic pain was produced by different forms of injury or diseases, the chronic constriction injury (CCI) of the sciatic nerves, oxaliplatin (OXA) chemotherapy, and streptozocin (STZ)-induced diabetes in mice. Continuous feeding of antibiotics (ABX) cocktail was used to cause major depletion of the gut microbiota. Fecal microbiota, biochemical changes in the spinal cord and dorsal root ganglion (DRG), and the behaviorally expressed painful syndromes were assessed. RESULTS: Under condition of gut microbiota depletion, CCI, OXA, or STZ treatment-induced thermal hyperalgesia or mechanical allodynia were prevented or completely suppressed. Gut microbiota depletion also prevented CCI or STZ treatment-induced glial cell activation in the spinal cord and inhibited cytokine production in DRG in OXA model. Interestingly, STZ treatment failed to induce the diabetic high blood glucose and painful hypersensitivity in animals with the gut microbiota depletion. ABX feeding starting simultaneously with CCI, OXA, or STZ treatment resulted in instant analgesia in all the animals. ABX feeding starting after establishment of the neuropathic pain in CCI- and STZ-, but not OXA-treated animals produced significant alleviation of the thermal hyeralgesia or mechanical allodynia. Transplantation of fecal bacteria from SPF mice to ABX-treated mice partially restored the gut microbiota and fully rescued the behaviorally expressed neuropathic pain, of which, Akkermansia, Bacteroides, and Desulfovibrionaceae phylus may play a key role. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates distinct roles of gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of chronic painful conditions with nerve injury, chemotherapy and diabetic neuropathy and supports the clinical significance of fecal bacteria transplantation.

RESUMO

In the past decade, atomically dispersed Fe active sites (coordinated with nitrogen) on carbon materials (FeNC) have emerged rapidly as promising single-atom catalysts (SACs) for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) to substitute precious group metal (PGM) catalysts, owing to their earth abundance and low cost. Nonetheless, the production of highly active FeNC SACs is largely restricted by material cost, low product yield and difficulty of microstructure design. Herein, the authors demonstrate a facile in-situ xerogel (ISG) assisted synthetic strategy, using cheap materials, to construct FeNC SACs (ISG FeNC). The porous silica xerogel, formed in-situ with the FeNC precursors, encourages the emergence of enormous micropores/mesopores and homogeneous confinement/protection to the precursors during pyrolysis, benefiting to the formation of abundant accessible active sites (27.6 × 1019 sites g-1 ). Correspondingly, the ISG FeNC exhibits excellent ORR activity with a half-wave potential (E1/2  = 0.91 V) in alkaline medium. The Zn-air battery assembled using the ISG FeNC SACs as the bifunctional catalyst of air cathode, demonstrates commendable performance with high peak power density of 249.1 mW cm-2 and superior long-term stability (660 cycles with 220 h). This work offers an economic and efficient way to fabricate PGM-free SACs for diverse applications.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Heparan sulfate (HS) degradation mediates pulmonary endothelial hyper-permeability and acute pulmonary edema during acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The aim of this study was to examine whether histone H4 induced HS degradation by activating heparanase (HPSE) in chlorine gas (Cl2)-induced ARDS. METHODS: Acute lung injury was induced by Cl2 exposure or histone H4 injection in C57BL/6 mice. Histone H4 in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and plasma was measured by ELISA. HS degradation was measured by immunostaining, ELISA, and flow cytometry. HPSE mRNA and protein were measured by real-time qPCR and western blot analysis, respectively, at preset timepoints. The HPSE inhibitor OGT2115 and specific siRNAs were used to study the role of HPSE during HS degradation caused by Cl2 exposure or histone H4 challenge. Blocking antibodies against TLR1, TLR2, TLR4, or TLR6 were used in vitro to investigate which signaling pathway was involved. The transcriptional regulation of HPSE was studied vis-à-vis NF-κB, which was assessed by nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 and phosphorylation of I-κBα protein. RESULTS: Histone H4 in BALF and plasma increased evidently after Cl2 inhalation. Cl2 exposure or histone H4 challenge caused obvious acute lung injury in mice, and the pulmonary glycocalyx was degraded evidently as observed from endothelial HS staining and measurement of plasma HS fragments. Pretreatment with OGT2115, an HPSE inhibitor, relieved the acute lung injury and HS degradation caused by Cl2 exposure or histone H4 challenge. Targeted knockdown of HPSE by RNA interference (RNAi) significantly inhibited histone H4 induced HS degradation in HPMECs, as measured by immunofluorescence and flow cytometry. By inducing phosphorylation of I-κB α and nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65, histone H4 directly promoted mRNA transcription and protein expression of HPSE in a dose-dependent manner. Additionally, a blocking antibody against TLR4 markedly inhibited both activation of NF-κB and expression of HPSE induced by histone H4. CONCLUSIONS: Histone H4 is a major pro-inflammatory mediator in Cl2-induced ARDS in mice, and induces HS degradation by activating HPSE via TLRs- and NF-κB-signaling pathways.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Avian hepatitis E virus (HEV) is the pathogenic agent of big liver and spleen disease (BLS) and of hepatitis-splenomegaly syndrome (HSS) in chickens, which have caused economic losses to the poultry industry in China. In this study, 18 samples of BLS chickens were collected to reveal the molecular epidemiological characteristics of avian HEV in the province of Shandong, China. RESULTS: Gross and microscopic lesions of clinical samples were observed; then, virology detection and genetic analysis of avian HEV were performed. The results showed that there was significant swelling and rupture in the liver and that the spleen was enlarged. Microscopic lesions demonstrated obvious hemorrhage in the liver, with infiltration of heterophilic granulocytes, lymphocytes, and macrophages, as well as the reduction of lymphocytes in the spleen. Eleven of the 18 samples were positive for avian HEV, with a positive rate of 61.11%. More importantly, all avian HEV-positive samples were mixed infections: among these, the mixed infections of avian HEV and chicken infectious anemia virus (CIAV) and avian HEV and fowl adenovirus (FAdV) were the most common. Furthermore, the genetic evolution analysis showed that all avian HEV strains obtained here did not belong to the reported 4 genotypes, thus constituting a potential novel genotype. CONCLUSIONS: These results of this study further enrich the epidemiological data on avian HEV in Shandong, prove the genetic diversity of avian HEV in China, and uncover the complex mixed infections of avian HEV clinical samples.

RESUMO

The BRI1-EMS suppressor 1 (BES1)/brassinazole-resistant 1(BZR1) transcription factors play crucial roles in plant growth, development, and stress response. However, little is known about the function of maize's BES1/BZR1s. In this study, the ZmBES1/BZR1-3 and ZmBES1/BZR1-9 genes were cloned from maize's inbred line, B73, and they were functionally evaluated by analyzing their expression pattern, subcellular localization, transcriptional activation activity, as well as their heterologous expression in Arabidopsis, respectively. The results of the qRT-PCR showed that the ZmBES1/BZR1-3 and ZmBES1/BZR1-9 genes were predominantly expressed in the root, and their expression was significantly down-regulated by drought stress. The ZmBES1/BZR1-3 and ZmBES1/BZR1-9 proteins localized in the nucleus but showed no transcriptional activation activity as a monomer. Subsequently, it was found that the heterologous expression of the ZmBES1/BZR1-3 and ZmBES1/BZR1-9 genes in Arabidopsis decreased drought tolerance, respectively. The transgenic lines showed a more serious wilting phenotype, shorter root length, lower fresh weight, and higher relative electrolyte leakage (REL) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content compared to the control under drought stress. The RNA-sequencing data showed that the 70.67% and 93.27% differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were significantly down-regulated in ZmBES1/BZR1-3 and ZmBES1/BZR1-9 transgenic Arabidopsis, respectively. The DEGs of ZmBES1/BZR1-3 gene's expressing lines were mainly associated with oxidative stress response and amino acid metabolic process and enriched in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis and protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum. But the DEGs of the ZmBES1/BZR1-9 gene's expressing lines were predominantly annotated with water deprivation, extracellular stimuli, and jasmonic acid and enriched in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis and plant hormone signal transduction. Moreover, ZmBES1/BZR1-9 increased stomatal aperture in transgenic Arabidopsis under drought stress. This study indicates that ZmBES1/BZR1-3 and ZmBES1/BZR1-9 negatively regulate drought tolerance via different pathways in transgenic Arabidopsis, and it provides insights into the underlying the function of BES1/BZR1s in crops.

RESUMO

Photoinduced electrochemiluminescence (PECL) allows the electrochemically assisted conversion of low-energy photons into high-energy photons at an electrode surface. This concept is expected to have important implications, however, it is dramatically limited by the stability of the surface, impeding future developments. Here, a series of metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) junctions, using photoactive n-type Si (n-Si) as a light absorber covered by a few-nanometer-thick protective SiOx /metal (SiOx /M, with M=Ru, Pt, and Ir) overlayers are investigated for upconversion PECL of the model co-reactant system involving the simultaneous oxidation of tris(bipyridine)ruthenium(II) and tri-n-propylamine. We show that n-Si/SiOx /Pt and n-Si/SiOx /Ir exhibit high photovoltages and record stabilities in operation (35 h for n-Si/SiOx /Ir) for the generation of intense PECL with an anti-Stokes shift of 218 nm. We also demonstrate that these surfaces can be employed for spatially localized PECL. These unprecedented performances are extremely promising for future applications of PECL.

RESUMO

In the terahertz frequency range, the commercialized spectrometers, such as the Fourier transform infrared and time domain spectroscopies, show spectral resolutions between a hundred megahertz and a few gigahertz. Therefore, the high precision frequency tuning ability of terahertz lasers cannot be revealed by these traditional spectroscopic techniques. In this work, we demonstrate a laser beating experiment to investigate the frequency tuning characteristics of terahertz quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) induced by temperature or drive current. Two terahertz QCLs emitting around 4.2 THz with identical active regions and laser dimensions (150 µm wide and 6 mm long) are employed in the beating experiment. One laser is operated as a frequency comb and the other one is driven at a lower current to emit a single frequency. To measure the beating signal, the single mode laser is used as a fast detector (laser self-detection). The laser beating scheme allows the high precision measurement of the frequency tuning of the single mode terahertz QCL. The experimental results show that in the investigated temperature and current ranges, the frequency tuning coefficients of the terahertz QCL are 6.1 MHz/0.1 K (temperature tuning) and 2.7 MHz/mA (current tuning) that cannot be revealed by a traditional terahertz spectrometer. The laser beating technique shows potential abilities in high precision linewidth measurements of narrow absorption lines and multi-channel terahertz communications.
