The present study has as its objective the releases about Health Education in the Primary Health Care in Brazil, published between 1990 and 2015 in scientific journals of Public Health. The main source were scientific articles available in the database of Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde BVS (Online HealthLibrary) and through content analysis this study has as its specific target distinguish the articles based on their year of release, the authors linking institutions and the institution regions, the journals where they were published, their language and kind of study and, beyond that, describe their content focused on elements which might show the conceptions and practices in health education. As a result, we were able to find out that the Southeast Region stood out by its number of articles. Regarding the journals, we might mention Atenção Primária à Saúde APS (Primary Health Care). Empirical articles lead the publications and, among them, those with a qualitative approach are the majority. Analyzing the content of the articles, we were able to see that 17 percent of them do not define the term health education. It is implicit on them that the educative practices in health aims the behavior changing through the vertical transmission of information. Among those articles which define the term health education, we find many criticisms regarding the traditional pattern of education, as well as concepts and theories based on Freire studies. However, the results of these researches have shown how persistent are the elements of traditional pedagogy as well as the influence of the biomedical pattern. The majority of the articles (60 percent) considered and discussed the context, which is very relevant for the authors in the education field considered as references for this study. The social participation was poorly discussed only 43 percent of the articles which may suggest that the healtheducational activities have no promotion room inside the community.
