Introduction Pathologists play a pivotal role in diagnosing diseases and improving patient care. Nonetheless, research indicates that a mere fraction of medical school graduates opt for a career in pathology, ranging from 1% to 3%. Diverse factors influence students' perceptions of pathology, encompassing lifestyle, patient interaction, and income. Aim The aim of this study was to assess the perceptions and factors that influence students' selection of pathology as a career in Saudi Arabia. Methodology A cross-sectional, self-administered electronic questionnaire was distributed among students from various regions of Saudi Arabia. The questionnaire encompassed both quantitative and qualitative data. To ensure statistical rigor, a confidence level of 95%, response distribution of 10%, and margin of error of 5% were applied. Accordingly, the recommended sample size of 150 participants was determined. Data analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 24.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY), with the chi-square test applied at a significance level of P < 0.05. Results Among the 664 participating students, 130 (19.6%) indicated an interest in pathology, of whom only 19 (2.9%) regarded it as their primary choice. No statistically significant difference was found between the male and female students or between the students in foundational and clinical years. Conclusions The female students generally held a more favorable perception of pathology, acknowledging its clinical significance and role in diagnosis, prognosis, and patient management. The absence of nocturnal calls emerged as the most encouraging factor, while limited patient interaction emerged as the primary deterrent in choosing pathology.

Background and objective Depression and anxiety are among the most common mental health conditions globally, and, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), roughly 25% of people worldwide suffer from them. Serious mental diseases can cause a great deal of suffering and incapacity, lowering people's quality of life. Stigma and unfavorable attitudes toward mental illness often discourage people from seeking psychological assistance and achieving recovery from mental problems. This observational cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the attitudes of the general population of Makkah, Saudi Arabia, toward seeking psychological help, and to determine the degree to which stigma prevents individuals from seeking help. Methods An online, self-administered survey was distributed via social media platforms among the general population of Makkah between September and December 2023. Males and females over the age of 18 years living in Makkah were included. The exclusion criteria were participants who declined to participate in the study or those who were below 18 years of age. Results A total of 495 eligible participants completed the study survey. Of them, 378 (76.4%) were female, and most (390, 78.8%) were Saudi Arabian nationals. A total of 341 (68.9%) participants had symptoms of anxiety, and 319 (64.4%) had symptoms of depression. Regarding unfavorable attitudes, the scores were significantly higher among participants over 40 years of age (1.81 ± 0.46; p<0.05) and those with relatively low levels of education (1.93 ± 0.65; p<0.05). As for stigma, the scores were significantly higher among male participants (2.38 ± 0.83; p<0.05) and those with low levels of education (2.54 ± 0.8; p<0.05). Conclusion A significant negative correlation between participants' attitudes toward seeking psychological help and stigma was observed. However, in contrast, the psychological symptom scores did not significantly correlate with the participants' attitudes. Stigma scores showed significant positive correlations with depression and overall symptom scores. This research showed that stigma has a significant impact on attitudes toward help-seeking.

BACKGROUND: Substance abuse is a term that refers to the harmful or hazardous use of psychoactive substances, including alcohol and illicit drugs. One of the key impacts of illicit drug use on society is the negative health consequences experienced by its members. OBJECTIVE: This study recorded the pattern of substance abuse and the sociodemographic characteristics of adult substance abusers in Makkah City. METHODS: An online self-administered survey was provided to the general population through social media platforms between March 2023 and August 2023. Males and females living in Makkah over the age of 18 were included in it. The participants who refused to take part or those who were younger than 18 were not included in the study. RESULTS: The number of participants in this study was 720; 73.5% were under the age of 30 and 424 were females (58.9%). The significant variables between substance abuse and sociodemographic data were gender (P=0.001), depression (P≤0.000), anxiety (P≤0.000), stress (P=0.025), and bad/shocking experience during childhood (P=0.004). CONCLUSION: Substance abuse positively correlates with sociodemographic data, with males having a higher risk, and psychiatric neurosis is associated with childhood trauma and anxiety.

Klebsiella pneumoniae producing extended-spectrum ß-lactamases (ESBL) continues to pose huge therapeutic challenges in the treatment of infections, primarily urinary infections, due to its multidrug resistance to antibiotics. Therefore, there is a need for research on this topic to investigate ways to reduce the spread of antibiotic resistance, identify novel therapeutic approaches to treat these infections and gain a better understanding of the mechanisms of resistance. In this context, this study aimed to analyze the chemical composition of essential oils (EOs) of Thymus algeriensis, Syzygium aromaticum, and Eucalyptus globulus and assess their activity against K. pneumoniae ESBL strains, as well as the interaction type between these EOs and antibiotics used for the treatment of K. pneumoniae ESBL infections. The composition of the EOs was determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The activity of EOs was tested using the disc diffusion and liquid microdilution methods. The type of interaction between EOs and antibiotics was studied using the agar disk diffusion and chessboard methods. The analysis of the EO of T. algeriensis showed that the main compounds were thymol (23.14%), linalool (18.44%), and p-cymene (16.17%). The main constituents of EO of E. globulus were eucalyptol (54.29%), α-pinene (17.32%), aromadendrene (7.02%), and pinocarveol (6.32%). As for the EO of S. aromaticum, the major constituents were eugenol (80.46%) and eugenol acetate (16.23%). Results of the activity tests showed that all three EOs were active against the tested strains, with inhibition diameters ranging from 7.39±0.44mm to 32.4±1.05mm and minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) varying from 2 to 441.5±5.66 mg/ml. A synergistic interaction was obtained between amoxicillin-clavulanic acid and T. algeriensis EO against two strains of K. pneumoniae ESBL. These results demonstrate the potential of our EOs to inhibit multi-resistant pathogenic ESBL strains, as well as their synergistic interaction with antibiotics used in therapy, which could be an alternative to the use of antibiotics alone in treatment to fight against these multi-resistant pathogenic bacteria.

Background: Dubin-Johnson syndrome (DJS) presents during the neonatal period with a phenotype that overlaps with a broad list of causes of neonatal cholestasis (NC), which makes the identification of DJS challenging for clinicians. We conducted a case-controlled study to investigate the utility of urinary coproporphyrins (UCP) I% as a potential diagnostic biomarker. Methods: We reviewed our database of 533 cases of NC and identified 28 neonates with disease-causing variants in ATP-binding cassette-subfamily C member 2 (ABCC2) gene "Cases" (Study period 2008-2019). Another 20 neonates with cholestasis due to non-DJS diagnoses were included as "controls." Both groups underwent UCP analysis to measure CP isomer I percentage (%). Results: Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels were within the normal range in 26 patients (92%) and mildly elevated in 2 patients. ALT levels were significantly lower in neonates with DJS than in NC from other causes (P < 0.001). The use of normal serum ALT levels to predict DJS among neonates with cholestasis had a sensitivity of 93%, specificity 90%, positive predictive value (PPV) 34%, and negative predictive value (NPV) 99.5%. The median UCPI% was significantly higher in DJS patients [88%, interquartile range (IQR) 1-IQR3, 84.2%-92.7%] than in NC from other causes [67%, (IQR1-IQR3, 61%-71.5%; Confidence interval 0.18-0.28; P< 0.001)]. The use of UCPI% >80% to predict DJS had a sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV of 100%. Conclusion: Based on the results from our study, we propose sequencing of the ABCC2 gene in neonates with normal ALT, presence of cholestasis and UCP1% >80%.

INTRODUCTION: Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) is associated with several congenital anomalies, including non-syndromic orofacial clefts (NSOFCs). This systematic review aimed to update the literature on the association between ETS and NSOFCs. METHODS: Four databases were searched up to March 2022, and studies that evaluated the association between ETS and NSOFCs were selected. Two authors selected the studies, extracted the data, and evaluated the risk of bias. Comparing the association of maternal exposure to ETS and active parental smoking with NSOFCs allowed for the creation of pooled effect estimates for the included studies. RESULTS: Twenty-six studies were deemed eligible for this review, of which 14 were reported in a previous systematic review. Twenty five were case-control studies, and one was a cohort study. In total, these studies included 2142 NSOFC cases compared to 118129 controls. All meta-analyses showed an association between ETS and the risk of having a child with NSOFC, based on the cleft phenotype, risk of bias, and year of publication, with a pooled increased odds ratio of 1.80 (95% CI: 1.51-2.15). These studies had a marked heterogeneity, which decreased upon subgrouping based on the recent year of publication and the risk of bias. CONCLUSIONS: ETS exposure was associated with more than a 1.5-fold increase in the risk of having a child with NSOFC, showing a higher odds ratio than paternal and maternal active smoking. BACKGROUND: Medication overuse headache (MOH) is a secondary headache condition caused by consistently using more medication than necessary to treat headache symptoms. MOH is defined as a headache that occurs for 15 or more days per month in a patient with a pre-existing primary headache, and it develops as a result of regular overuse of symptomatic headache medication for more than three months. Patients with headaches often use simple pain medication for 15 or more days per month (e.g., non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and paracetamol) and 10 or more days per month of opioids, triptans, and combination analgesics, but when there is no relief from these medications, the headache progression can lead to a cycle of consuming more medication with increased pain, which can lead to MOH. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the prevalence and awareness of MOH among the general population of Makkah, Saudi Arabia. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted between December 2022 and March 2023 using a self-administered online questionnaire disseminated through social media. Data were collected from females and males 18 years of age and older living in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. RESULTS: Overall, 715 individuals completed the questionnaire, 497 of whom were female (69.5%). The average age of the participants was 32.9 years (±13.3 years). The prevalence of MOH among those who reported having experienced headaches throughout their lifetimes was estimated to be 4.5%. Only 134 people (18.7%) were determined to be aware of MOH. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that the general population of Makkah has a high prevalence of MOH and low levels of MOH awareness.

This study examines the landscape degradation of the Jazan coastal desert in Saudi Arabia and explores strategies to balance tourism development and environmental preservation. The Coastal Scenery Evaluation System (CSES) was utilized to assess the scenic quality of 42 coastal sites, revealing that most sites fell into Classes III, IV, and V. Factors such as coastal erosion, hard structures, urbanization, marine wrack, litter, sewage, and beach driving had a negative impact on the scenic quality of the coastal sites. To enhance the landscape of the Jazan coastline, it is important for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to give primacy to approaches to the management of coastal scenery that maintain an equilibrium between promoting tourism and safeguarding the environment. These strategies should focus on preserving, enhancing, and restoring coastal scenic characteristics and incorporate the protection and restoration of ecosystems and habitats, sustainable use of resources, natural and cultural heritage conservation, a balance between protection and development, legal and institutional support, identification and assessment of scenic values, stakeholder involvement, resource provision for effective management, and promotion of research and evaluation. Successful implementation of these strategies will lead to increased tourist arrivals and a much-improved coastal management system in the Jazan coastline and other coasts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia experiencing similar development pressures.

Background: Childhood obesity has increased in Saudi Arabia over the past few decades. However, a representative burden of obesity remains unclear, as most studies had relied on small samples and/or used international growth references, which may have resulted in over-or underestimations of prevalence. Objective: The study aimed to determine the prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents in Saudi Arabia using the Saudi growth chart. Methods: This population-based retrospective study included children and adolescents aged 2-19 years who visited any facility within the National Guard Health System (5 hospitals and 24 primary care centers) across Saudi Arabia between 2016 and 2021. The Saudi growth reference for children and adolescents was used for classification. Those with body mass index ≥95th percentile were considered as obese and ≥85th to <95th percentile as overweight. Chi-square tests were used to compare frequencies across groups. Results: A total of 351,195 children and adolescents were included, of which 337,316 (96%) were Saudis. Overall, about one-fifth of the population was overweight (11.2%) or obese (9.4%). The prevalence of obesity was highest among children aged 2-6 years (12.3%), and it was higher among boys (10.4%) than girls (8.3%). In terms of region, the prevalence of obesity among Saudis was highest in the Central and Eastern regions (9.9% for both). Conclusion: The findings highlight an urgent need for national interventions to focus on the upstream determinants of childhood obesity and to improve healthy options for children and adolescents in terms of food and physical activities.

Horizontal wells are geometrically shaped differently and projected to different flow regimes than vertical wells. Therefore, the existing laws that govern flow and productivity in vertical wells are not applicable to horizontal wells directly. The objective of this paper is to develop machine learning models that predict well productivity index using several reservoir and well inputs. Six models were developed using the actual well rate data from several wells divided into single-lateral wells, multilateral wells, and a combination of single-lateral and multilateral wells. The models are generated using artificial neural networks and fuzzy logic. The inputs used to create the models are the typical inputs used in the correlations and are well-known for any well under production. The results of the established ML models were excellent as suggested by an error analysis performed, reflecting the models to be robust. The error analysis showed high correlation coefficient values (between 0.94 and 0.95) supported by a low estimation error for four models out of six. The added value of this study is the developed general and accurate PI estimation model that overcomes many limitations of several widely used correlations in the industry and can be utilized for single-lateral or multilateral wells.

Mangroves provide various ecosystem services, carbon sequestration, biodiversity depository, and livelihoods. They are most abundant in marine and coastal ecosystems and are threatened by toxic contaminants like heavy metals released from various anthropogenic activities. However, they have significant potential to survive in salt-driven environments and accumulate various pollutants. The adverse effects of heavy metals have been extensively studied and recognized as toxic to mangrove species. This study sheds light on the dynamics of heavy metal levels, their absorption, accumulation and transport in the soil environment in a mangrove ecosystem. The article also focuses on the potential of mangrove species to remove heavy metals from marine and coastal environments. This review concludes that mangroves are potential candidates to clean up contaminated water, soil, and sediments through their phytoremediation ability. The accumulation of toxic heavy metals by mangroves is mainly through roots with limited upward translocation. Therefore, promoting the maintenance of biodiversity and stability in the coastal environment is recommended as an environmentally friendly and potentially cost-effective approach.

PURPOSE: This review presents the current methods used for determining ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and ethyl sulfate (EtS) concentrations in postmortem specimens, including sample preparation, analysis and the role of EtG and EtS in the postmortem assessment of the extent of alcohol abuse. METHODS: Papers pertaining to postmortem investigation were collected from scientific databases and reviewed. The papers were published between January 2006 and October 2020. RESULTS: Most of the analyses involved postmortem blood and urine samples, with a few reports using other bodily specimens and tissues. The method validation was not conducted for all applications. These reports were mostly intended to present data rather than interpret them, and the lack of effort in relating these ethanol biomarkers with the cause of death and/or determination of the time of deaths due to ethanol intoxication might decrease the applicability of these makers after a promising start between 2006 and 2010. Nevertheless, by the beginning of 2020, papers investigating ethanol biomarkers were still increasing. A considerable number of methods used liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS) techniques that require less sample preparation (e.g., protein precipitation extraction, dilution, filtration, and centrifugation). Although solid-phase extraction can be applied, only three applications were reported. CONCLUSIONS: Matrix effects can be a substantial challenge in analytical methods based on LC-MS because they directly affect the ionization of analytes. However, these problems can be avoided due to the high cutoff values used to identify positive results for these ethanol biomarkers, which are often above 0.1-1 mg/L, and using internal standards. Research on using tissue specimens is recommended as most of the reported results on this type of specimen were promising.

Heterozygous pathogenic variants in DNM1 are linked to an autosomal dominant form of epileptic encephalopathy. Recently, homozygous loss-of-function variants in DNM1 were reported to cause an autosomal recessive form of developmental and epileptic encephalopathy in unrelated patients. Here, we investigated a singleton from a first-degree cousin marriage who presented with facial dysmorphism, global developmental delay, seizure disorder, and nystagmus. To identify the involvement of any likely genetic cause, diagnostic clinical exome sequencing was performed. Comprehensive filtering revealed a single plausible candidate variant in DNM1. Sanger sequencing of the trio, the patient, and her parents, confirmed the full segregation of the variant. The variant is a deletion leading to a premature stop codon and is predicted to cause a protein truncation. Structural modeling implicated a complete loss of function of the Dynamin 1 (DNM1). Such mutation is predicted to impair the nucleotide binding, dimer formation, and GTPase activity of DNM1. Our study expands the phenotypic spectrum of pathogenic homozygous loss-of-function variants in DNM1.

The roughness of the ocean surface significantly impacts air-to-sea imaging, oceanographic monitoring, and optical communication. Most current and previous methods for addressing this roughness and its impact on optical propagation are either entirely statistical or theoretical, or are 'mixed methods' based on a combination of statistical models and parametric-based physical models. In this paper, we performed experiments in a 50-foot-wave tank on wind-generated waves, in which we varied the wind speed to measure how the surface waves affect the laser beam propagation and develop a geometrical optical model to measure and analyze the refraction angle and slope angle of the laser beam under various environmental conditions. The study results show that the laser beam deviations/distortions and laser beam footprint size are strongly related to wind speed and laser beam incidence angle.

Bi-allelic variants in RTN4IP1, also known as Optic Atrophy-10 (OPA10), lead to early-onset recessive optic neuropathy, atrophy, and encephalopathy in the afflicted patients. The present study aims at understanding the effects of fuel preheating on engine characteristics of waste animal fat-oil (WAF-O) biodiesel in a single-cylinder CI engine, with the preheating technique proposed as an effective means for enhancing the fuel properties. To understand the effects of the preheated fuel, the WAF-O biodiesel was preheated at 60, 80, 100 and 120 °C and tested along with neat diesel and unheated WAF-O biodiesel. For this purpose, biodiesel was produced from different animal wastes by means of KOH-assisted ethanol-based transesterification, reporting its maximum yield as 96.37 ± 1.8%, with significant distribution of unsaturated oleic acid, saturated palmitic acid and stearic acid. Upon evaluating its fuel characteristics as per ASTM D6751 standards, a rise in preheating temperature by 1 °C reduced the density and kinematic viscosity of WAF-O biodiesel by 0.383 kg/m3 and 0.025 mm2/s, respectively, and was explained by the weakening of intermolecular forces between its fatty acid ester molecules. Preheated samples reported superior combustion characteristics by exhibiting increased in-cylinder pressure (2.24%, on average) and heat release rates in addition to their shortened ignition delay (1−4 °CA). Furthermore, preheating of WAF-O biodiesel reduced its specific fuel consumption and increased its brake thermal efficiency by 7.86% (on average) and 9.23% (on average), respectively. However, higher preheating temperatures (>120 °C) resulted in increased fuel consumption owing to its varied flow characteristics. In addition to the changes in combustion characteristics, preheating WAF-O bio-diesel also resulted in reduced carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide and hydrocarbon emission by 13.88%, 7.21% and 26.94%, respectively, and increased carbon dioxide emission by 7.58%. Summing up, the enhancements in overall engine characteristics of preheated samples were accounted for by their improvised fuel injection characteristics due to their reduced density and viscosity, which ensured for their effective combustion.

Visual pollution is the visible deterioration and negative aesthetic quality of the landscape. Erosion, marine wrack, litter, sewage, and beach driving are affecting the coastal scenery and are generating a visual pollution problem on the Rabigh coastal area, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This work provides the scenic evaluation of 31 coastal sites using the Coastal Scenery Evaluation System (CSES) to determine the current state of this situation and give management inputs. The CSES assesses values from a checklist of 18 physical and 8 human parameters and allows the calculation of a scenic evaluation index (D Value), which classifies coastal sites into five classes: Class I, usually natural areas of top scenic characteristics, to Class V, poor scenic natural areas with a higher impact of human interventions. Along the study area, three sites (9.7 %) appeared in Class II; five (16.1 %) in Class III; 15 (48.4 %) in Class IV, and eight sites (25.8 %) in Class V. Class I sites were not found in the study area. Assessment presented in this work provides a complete overview of the Rabigh coastal scenery and serves as a baseline for implementing management strategies to cope the visual pollution problem.

Objectives: (1) To calculate the sensitivity and specificity of the Hounsfield Unit (HU), the HU to hematocrit (H:H) ratio, and the D-dimer level in the diagnosis of acute CVST. (2) To assess the D-dimer level's linear relationship with the HU and the H:H ratio. Materials and Methods: A single-center retrospective case-control study was conducted from 2005 to 2020. The inclusion criteria for the thrombosed and control groups were specified. A region of interest (ROI) was plotted on the respective sinuses to calculate the HU. The H:H ratio was calculated by dividing the HU value by the hematocrit value. The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to calculate the sensitivity and specificity of the HU and the H:H ratio at different cutoff values. The Pearson correlation was used to assess the linear relationship between the D-dimer level and the HU and H:H ratio. Results: There were 19 patients in the thrombosed group and 28 patients in the control group. There were significant differences in the mean HU (71 ± 6.3 vs. 45 ± 4.8, P < 0.001) and the mean H:H ratio (2.11 ± 0.38 vs. 1.46 ± 0.63,P < 0.001). An optimal HU value of 56 yielded 100% sensitivity and specificity. An H:H value of 1.48 yielded a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 65%, an H:H ratio of 1.77 demonstrated a sensitivity of 85% and a specificity of 90%, and an H:H ratio of 1.88 yielded a sensitivity of 79% and a specificity of 93%. D-dimer levels had a 95% and 71% sensitivity and specificity, respectively. There was a significant moderately positive linear correlation between the D-dimer level and the HU (r = 0.52, P < 0.001) and the H:H ratio (r = 0.61, P < 0.001). Conclusion: Unenhanced CT of the brain can be a valuable objective diagnostic tool for acute CVST diagnosis. Hounsfield blood density and its normalized ratio with hematocrit are positively correlated with D-dimer levels, which may indicate active blood coagulation in a cerebral venous sinus.

Toxoplasmosis is a globally distributed disease of warm-blooded animals. It is caused by the opportunistic parasite Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii). One-third of the global human population is believed to be infected with T. gondii. Cats serve as final host of T. gondii and are the main source of contamination of soil and water. This study aimed to detect genotypes of T. gondii in cats. Fecal samples (n = 400) were collected from districts of South Punjab (Khanewal and Sahiwal), and were processed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) followed by sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. The obtained oligonucleotide sequences (T. gondii) were submitted to the GenBank database, and the evolutionary tree was constructed using MEGA-X software. Seven fecal samples (3.5%) from cats were positive. Five out of thirteen fecal samples (38.46%) found to be positive for T. gondii with microscopy were confirmed by PCR. After phylogenetic analysis with 3 clonal types and atypical strains, isolates of T. gondii in current study were more closely linked to a typical strain (AF249696). Besides genotyping from cats, seroprevalence from humans and ruminants is still considered to be the best and easiest way to identify the Toxoplasma. Blood samples were collected from sheep and goats (n = 2000 each), and human blood samples (n = 400) were collected from the same vicinity. Seroprevalence was determined using a commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. In Khanewal, the blood samples of 292 goats (29.2%) and 265 sheep (26.5%), and 6 fecal samples from cats (3%) were positive. Out of 200 human blood samples, 52 were positive, with a seroprevalence of 26%. In the Sahiwal district, the blood samples from 49 humans, 235 sheep and 348 goats were positive, with seroprevalence of 24.5%, 23.5% and 34.8%, respectively. The present study revealed the current circulating genotype of T. gondii from cats in the districts Khanewal and Sahiwal and the seroprevalence of the organism in small ruminants and humans living in the same vicinity. Further genotype analyses of the organism from ruminants and humans are needed.

Janus-activated kinases (JAKs) are well known to play a physiological as well as pathological role in several disease conditions such as autoimmune disorders. The present study evaluated the therapeutic potential of CP690550 (pan-JAK inhibitor) in 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tertahydropyridine (MPTP) model of Parkinson's disease. Intrastriatal administration of MPTP (30 micromol in 2 microl) produced a significant alteration in behavioural (bar test and block test). Biochemical investigations in serum and brain homogenate revealed a significant alteration in the JAK-mediated cytokine levels. MPTP administration also showed significant imbalance of inflammatory (increased TNF-α, IL-6 and NF-κb) versus anti-inflammatory cytokines (decreased IL-10 levels). MPTP-treated brain sections revealed alteration in the tissue architecture as well as undifferentiated bodies of varying contour and lesions. Chronic administration of CP690550 (3 and 10 mg/kg, po) for 7 days significantly reversed the behavioural, biochemical and histological alterations induced by MPTP. In conclusion, the findings of the present study govern the possible therapeutic potential of CP690550 in MPTP-treated mice and thus highlight the therapeutic potential of JAK inhibitors in treatment of Parkinson's disease.
