Nodular Erythema Elevatum Diutinum Mimicking Kaposi's Sarcoma in a Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infected Patient.

Erythema elevatum diutinum (EED) has been emerging as a specific Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) associated dermatosis in recent times. It is an extremely rare chronic disease of unknown origin and part of the spectrum of leukocytoclastic vasculitis. We describe a case of EED simulating Kaposi's sarcoma in a 52-year-old HIV infected female patient with no previous opportunistic infections and CD4+ count of 164/mm(3). Therapy with oral dapsone (100 mg/day) for two weeks resulted in resolution of some lesions.

Disseminated blastomycosis in a child with a brief review of the Indian literature.

Disseminated blastomycosis is rare in India, particularly in the pediatric population. We discuss the clinical picture, progress and outcome of disseminated blastomycosis in a 4-year-old child. We also present a brief review of the literature focussing on the scenario of blastomycosis in India.

Large congenital melanocytic nevus with metastatic melanoma with a probable primary in the lung.

Large congenital melanocytic nevi (> 20 cm in greatest diameter) are very rare and are seen in approximately 1 in 20,000 newborns. The major risk these patients face is the development of neurocutaneous melanosis or malignant melanoma. We report a rare case of large congenital melanocytic nevus with metastatic melanoma in a 40-year-old woman. In this case, though the primary was not established with certainty, on the basis of clinical course and radiological evaluation of various organs, we presume that the primary could be in the lung.

Subdural haematoma: an uncommon presentation of thrombocytopaenia in HIV infection.

Isolated thrombocytopaenia can occur in 30-60% of HIV-infected patients. The majority of patients with HIV-related immune thrombocytopaenia have only minor submucosal bleeding problems. Cases of subarachnoid haemorrhage and subdural haematoma are very rare and management of such cases is a challenging problem for physicians. We report a rare case of subdural haematoma due to thrombocytopaenia in a 40-year-old HIV-positive man.

Sweet's syndrome with subacute intestinal obstruction.

A 48 year old woman presented with high grade fever, arthralgia and multiple tender papules and plaques over the face, neck, back, arms and forearms with distension of abdomen. Investigations revealed leukocytosis with neutrophilia, high ESR and increased C-reactive protein. Skin biopsy showed neutrophilic infiltration in the dermis. Plain x-ray abdomen is suggestive of subacute intestinal obstruction. We report this case of classic Sweet's syndrome with uncommon presentation.
