RESUMO

This prospective, comparative, randomized, horizontal, and double-blind clinical study investigated the clinical efficacy of leucocyte-poor platelet-rich plasma (PRP, n=8) or allogeneic adipose-derived stem cells (ADSC, n=8) in dogs with bilateral degenerative hip joint disease (DHJD). Sixteen dogs were treated with two intra-articular injections of PRP or ADSCs, within a 30-day interval. The Canine Brief Pain Inventory (CBPI), the Helsinki Chronic Pain Index (HCPI), and Visual Analogue Scales for pain (VAS-pain) and locomotion (VAS-loc) were assessed by the dog owners. Analysis-of-gait using a force plate, response to palpation (VAS-palp), and the descriptive numerical scale for pain (DNS) were measured by a veterinarian. The assessments were performed before (baseline), 30 and 60 days after the first treatment. Data were analyzed using the unpaired t test, paired Wilcoxon test, Fisher's exact test, and Mann-Whitney and Friedman tests (P<0.05). Compared with baseline HCPI, CBPI, VAS-pain, and VAS-palp scores reduced 41%, 52%, 51%, and 48% (P=0.0001-0.03) at 60 days in the ADSC group. In PRP-treated dogs, CBPI, VAS-loc, and DNS scores decreased by 43%, 43%, and 33% at 60 days, respectively (P=0.0003-0.011). Based on CBPI data, the rate of success at 60 days was 75% and 25% in the ADSC and PRP groups (P=0.13), respectively. Both therapies were apparently safe and effective to reduce chronic pain in dogs with bilateral DHJD during a 60-day period. However, a trend towards greater improvement was provided by the ADSC treatment.

RESUMO

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of dentifrice containing brazilian red propolis (BRP) in adolescents under orthodontic treatment. Materials and Methods. This is a randomized, double-blind, clinical trial. A total of 92 participants free from caries were randomized into 2 groups; the first received fluoride dentifrice, and the second received fluoride dentifrice incorporated with BRP. The gingival bleeding index (GBI) was recorded, and saliva was collected on the baseline (D0) and after 28 days (D28) for microbiological analysis. Data from GBI and Colony Forming Units (CFU) (log10) were expressed as mean and standard deviation. RESULTS: The two groups reduced GBI significantly, with no difference in the intergroup analysis. In the intragroup analysis, it was observed that G2 (p < 0.001) had a significant reduction for Gram-negative bacteria, while there was significance (p < 0.001) had a significant reduction for Gram-negative bacteria, while there was significance (S. mutans bacteria, it was observed that only G2 had a statistically significant reduction (p < 0.001) had a significant reduction for Gram-negative bacteria, while there was significance (p < 0.001) had a significant reduction for Gram-negative bacteria, while there was significance (. CONCLUSIONS: Dentifrice containing BRP demonstrated better clinical and microbiological activity. Future studies are needed to better identify effects to establish the use of dentifrice containing propolis in biofilm control.

This is a review of Fernando Pessoa's Autopsychography poem. It brings discussions about the psychological dimension of the text, focusing on Maturana's epistemology, Edgar Morin's complex though and studies on emotions. The lyrical self of the text can be compared to all human beings, constantly dealing with an everfeigned real pain, a difficulty of communication inherent in their own communicative ability, and the infinitely paradoxical and intrinsically complementary relationship of their heart and reason.(AU)

Objective: treatment of patients with reactivity with respiratory problems. Identified by Kelly in 1972, a combination syndrome and an intraoral manifestation found in fully edentulous patients in the upper arch as opposed to a mandibular prosthesis of bilateral distal extension. Case report: the present study reviews and discusses, through a clinical case, as clinical features present in a patient with manifestations of the combination syndrome, in addition, to present a proposal of rehabilitative treatment, restoring function, phonetics and esthetics to the patient. Final considerations: diagnosing a syndrome and establishing a treatment plan appropriate to the needs of the patient and creating clinical conditions for the reestablishment of health are essential to obtain the result and thus impeding the advancement of the clinical picture. RESUMO

Nanotechnology techniques have a prominent role in the current technical and scientific scene. The layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition allows obtaining nanostructures with sophisticated multilayer, using a simple, but versatile technique. This procedure, which is used to coat and functionalize surfaces with nanometer- thick films, has applications in bioengineering, medicine, chemistry, materials and chemical engineering among other areas. Chitosan is a biomaterial, coming from the chitin, a very abundant polymer in nature, which has been recently tested as scaffolds. In this experiment we test the hypothesis that the hyaluronic acid-chitosan polyelectrolyte multilayer biofilm would be a good substrate to the adherence of equine mesenchymal stem cells derived from bone marrow. The results showed that these biofilms accelerate the process of cell adhesion on smooth surfaces, allowing a constant cell growth and creating a great option to cover surgical materials.
