RESUMO

Near-infrared-II (NIR-II) fluorescence imaging is pivotal in biomedical research. Organic probes exhibit high potential in clinical translation, due to advantages such as precise structure design, low toxicity, and post-modifications convenience. In related preparation, enhancement of NIR-II tail emission from NIR-I dyes is an efficient method. In particular, the promotion of twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) of relevant NIR-I dyes is a convenient protocol. However, present TICT-type probes still show disadvantages in relatively low emission, large particle sizes, or limited choice of NIR-I dyes, etc. Herein, the synthesis of stable small-sized polymer NIR-II fluoroprobes (e.g., 7.2 nm), integrating TICT and Förster resonance energy transfer process to synergistically enhance the NIR-II emission is reported. Strong enhanced emissions can be obtained from various NIR-I dyes and lanthanide elements (e.g., twelvefold at 1250 nm from Nd-DTPA/IR-808 sample). The fluorophore provides high-resolution angiography, with high-contrast imaging on middle cerebral artery occlusion model mice for distinguishing occlusion. The fluorophore can be rapidly excreted from the kidney (urine ≈65% within 4 h) in normal mice and exhibits long-term renal retention on acute kidney injury mice, showing potential applications in the prognosis of kidney diseases. This development provides an effective strategy to design and synthesize effective NIR-II fluoroprobes.

RESUMO

Goose is one of the most economically valuable poultry species and has a distinct appearance due to its possession of a knob. A knob is a hallmark of sexual maturity in goose (Anser cygnoides) and plays crucial roles in artificial selection, health status, social signaling, and body temperature regulation. However, the genetic mechanisms influencing the growth and development of goose knobs remain completely unclear. In this study, histomorphological and transcriptomic analyses of goose knobs in D70, D120, and D300 Yangzhou geese revealed differential changes in tissue morphology during the growth and development of goose knobs and the key core genes that regulate goose knob traits. Observation of tissue sections revealed that as age increased, the thickness of the knob epidermis, cuticle, and spinous cells gradually decreased. Additionally, fat cells in the dermis and subcutaneous connective tissue transitioned from loose to dense. Transcriptome sequencing results, analyzed through differential expression, Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA), and pattern expression analysis methods, showed D70-vs.-D120 (up-regulated: 192; down-regulated: 423), D70-vs.-D300 (up-regulated: 1394; down-regulated: 1893), and D120-vs.-D300 (up-regulated: 1017; down-regulated: 1324). A total of 6243 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, indicating varied expression levels across the three groups in the knob tissues of D70, D120, and D300 Yangzhou geese. These DEGs are significantly enriched in biological processes (BP) such as skin morphogenesis, the regulation of keratinocyte proliferation, and epidermal cell differentiation. Furthermore, they demonstrate enrichment in pathways related to goose knob development, including ECM-receptor interaction, NF-kappa B, and PPAR signaling. Through pattern expression analysis, three gene expression clusters related to goose knob traits were identified. The joint analysis of candidate genes associated with goose knob development and WGCNA led to the identification of key core genes influencing goose knob development. These core genes comprise WNT4, WNT10A, TCF7L2, GATA3, ADRA2A, CASP3, SFN, KDF1, ERRFI1, SPRY1, and EVPL. In summary, this study provides a reference for understanding the molecular mechanisms of goose knob growth and development and provides effective ideas and methods for the genetic improvement of goose knob traits.

RESUMO

TCP is a widely distributed, essential plant transcription factor that regulates plant growth and development. An in-depth study of TCP genes in Dendrobium nobile, a crucial parent in genetic breeding and an excellent model material to explore perianth development in Dendrobium, has not been conducted. We identified 23 DnTCP genes unevenly distributed across 19 chromosomes and classified them as Class I PCF (12 members), Class II: CIN (10 members), and CYC/TB1 (1 member) based on the conserved domain and phylogenetic analysis. Most DnTCPs in the same subclade had similar gene and motif structures. Segmental duplication was the predominant duplication event for TCP genes, and no tandem duplication was observed. Seven genes in the CIN subclade had potential miR319 and -159 target sites. Cis-acting element analysis showed that most DnTCP genes contained many developmental stress-, light-, and phytohormone-responsive elements in their promoter regions. Distinct expression patterns were observed among the 23 DnTCP genes, suggesting that these genes have diverse regulatory roles at different stages of perianth development or in different organs. For instance, DnTCP4 and DnTCP18 play a role in early perianth development, and DnTCP5 and DnTCP10 are significantly expressed during late perianth development. DnTCP17, 20, 21, and 22 are the most likely to be involved in perianth and leaf development. DnTCP11 was significantly expressed in the gynandrium. Specially, MADS-specific binding sites were present in most DnTCP genes putative promoters, and two Class I DnTCPs were in the nucleus and interacted with each other or with the MADS-box. The interactions between TCP and the MADS-box have been described for the first time in orchids, which broadens our understanding of the regulatory network of TCP involved in perianth development in orchids.

RESUMO

AIM: This study aims to utilize machine learning (ML) and logistic regression (LR) models to predict surgical outcomes among patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) based on admission examination, assisting in making optimal surgical treatment decision for these patients. METHOD: We conducted a retrospective review of patients hospitalized in our department for moderate-to-severe TBI. Patients admitted between October 2011 and October 2022 were assigned to the training set, while patients admitted between November 2022 and May 2023 were designated as the external validation set. Five ML algorithms and LR model were employed to predict the postoperative Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) status at discharge using clinical and routine blood data collected upon admission. The Shapley (SHAP) plot was utilized for interpreting the models. RESULTS: A total of 416 patients were included in this study, and they were divided into the training set (n = 396) and the external validation set (n = 47). The ML models, using both clinical and routine blood data, were able to predict postoperative GOS outcomes with area under the curve (AUC) values ranging from 0.860 to 0.900 during the internal cross-validation and from 0.801 to 0.890 during the external validation. In contrast, the LR model had the lowest AUC values during the internal and external validation (0.844 and 0.567, respectively). When blood data was not available, the ML models achieved AUCs of 0.849 to 0.870 during the internal cross-validation and 0.714 to 0.861 during the external validation. Similarly, the LR model had the lowest AUC values (0.821 and 0.638, respectively). Through repeated cross-validation analysis, we found that routine blood data had a significant association with higher mean AUC values in all ML and LR models. The SHAP plot was used to visualize the contributions of all predictors and highlighted the significance of blood data in the lightGBM model. CONCLUSION: The study concluded that ML models could provide rapid and accurate predictions for postoperative GOS outcomes at discharge following moderate-to-severe TBI. The study also highlighted the crucial role of routine blood tests in improving such predictions, and may contribute to the optimization of surgical treatment decision-making for patients with TBI.

RESUMO

Accurate gender identification is crucial for the study of bird reproduction and evolution. The current study aimed to explore and evaluate the effectiveness of a noninvasive method for gender identification in Yangzhou geese. In this experiment, 600 goose eggs were collected. Hair root tissues were used for PCR amplification, molecular sequencing, and anal inversion for early sex recognition in goslings. According to the DNA amplification results for the feather pulp tissue of 2-wk-old geese, bands appeared at 436 bp (CHD1-Z) and 330 bp (CHD1-W) upon gel electrophoresis. This method considered the base of goose feathers to accelerate the process of gender recognition. By examining the sex of anatomized poultry for verification, the accuracy rate of PCR gel electrophoresis and molecular sequencing sex identification was 100%, whereas the average accuracy rate of anal inversion was 97.41%. In the comparison of feather growth trends at 0 to 18 wk of age, the feather root weight (FRW), feather root length (FRL), feather branch length (FBL), and feather shaft diameter (FSD) of Yangzhou goose of the same age were not significantly different between males and females (P > 0.05). At 6 wk of age, the FRW, FRL, and FSD in males and FRL in females increased rapidly; their growth increased by 84.43, 67.58, 45.10, and 69.42%, respectively. At 10 wk of age, the male FRL, male FBL, and female FBL increased by 37.31, 34.81, and 21.72, respectively. The Boltzmann model was found to be the best-fitting model for the feathers of male Yangzhou geese. Early sex identification based on feather growth trends between the sexes is not feasible. This study provides a convenient and reliable technical means for early sex identification of waterfowl and serves as an ecological strategy for protecting the reproduction of poultry populations.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The issue of hair growth on reconstructed ears has been a matter of concern for both patients and surgeons, despite the notable progress made in microtia reconstruction technology in recent times. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to present the practical implementation of long-pulsed 800-nm diode laser depilation technology in the field of auricular reconstruction. Furthermore, it seeks to establish a comprehensive and standardized protocol for utilizing lasers in the reconstruction of microtia ears. METHODS: A total of 965 patients (comprising 1021 ears) diagnosed with congenital microtia underwent treatment using 800-nm long-pulsed diode laser depilation. The participants received 1-3 treatment sessions with intervals of 25-30 days. To assess the effectiveness of the treatment, two independent observers compared photographs and measured the reduction in terminal hair count before and after the final session. Clinical outcomes were evaluated using VAS questionnaires, and any adverse events were diligently recorded. RESULTS: The findings indicated that the utilization of the long-pulsed 800-nm diode laser was both safe and efficient in achieving hair removal during microtia ear reconstruction. As additional sessions were conducted, pain scores demonstrated a decline, while adverse reactions remained minimal. LIMITATIONS: This is a retrospective single-institution study. CONCLUSION: The application of a long-pulsed 800-nm diode laser has been proved to be a safe and effective method for removing hair during the process of microtia ear reconstruction, involving the use of a tissue expander and autologous costal cartilage. To achieve satisfactory results in hair removal, it was found necessary to repeat the shots procedure two to three times. RESUMO

In the evolving landscape of water treatment, membrane technology has ascended to an instrumental role, underscored by its unmatched efficacy and ubiquity. Diverse synthesis and modification techniques are employed to fabricate state-of-the-art liquid separation membranes. Click reactions, distinguished by their rapid kinetics, minimal byproduct generation, and simple reaction condition, emerge as a potent paradigm for devising eco-functional materials. While the metal-free thiol-ene click reaction is acknowledged as a viable approach for membrane material innovation, a systematic elucidation of its applicability in liquid separation membrane development remains conspicuously absent. This review elucidates the pre-functionalization strategies of substrate materials tailored for thiol-ene reactions, notably highlighting thiolation and introducing unsaturated moieties. The consequential implications of thiol-ene reactions on membrane properties-including trade-off effect, surface wettability, and antifouling property-are discussed. The application of thiol-ene reaction in fabricating various liquid separation membranes for different water treatment processes, including wastewater treatment, oil/water separation, and ion separation, are reviewed. Finally, the prospects of thiol-ene reaction in designing novel liquid separation membrane, including pre-functionalization, products prediction, and solute-solute separation membrane, are proposed. This review endeavors to furnish invaluable insights, paving the way for expanding the horizons of thiol-ene reaction application in liquid separation membrane fabrication.

RESUMO

AIM: This study aims to develop prediction models for in-hospital outcomes after non-surgical treatment among patients with moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). METHOD: We conducted a retrospective review of patients hospitalized for moderate-to-severe TBI in our department from 2011 to 2020. Five machine learning (ML) algorithms and the conventional logistic regression (LR) model were employed to predict in-hospital mortality and the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) functional outcomes. These models utilized clinical and routine blood data collected upon admission. RESULTS: This study included a total of 196 patients who received only non-surgical treatment after moderate-to-severe TBI. When predicting mortality, ML models achieved area under the curve (AUC) values of 0.921 to 0.994 using clinical and routine blood data, and 0.877 to 0.982 using only clinical data. In comparison, LR models yielded AUCs of 0.762 and 0.730 respectively. When predicting the GOS outcome, ML models achieved AUCs of 0.870 to 0.915 using clinical and routine blood data, and 0.858 to 0.927 using only clinical data. In comparison, the LR model yielded AUCs of 0.798 and 0.787 respectively. Repeated internal validation showed that the contributions of routine blood data for prediction models may depend on different prediction algorithms and different outcome measurements. CONCLUSION: The study reported ML-based prediction models that provided rapid and accurate predictions on short-term outcomes after non-surgical treatment among patients with moderate-to-severe TBI. The study also highlighted the superiority of ML models over conventional LR models and proposed the complex contributions of routine blood data in such predictions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Bulbar conjunctival prolapse is one of the complications of conjoint fascial sheath (CFS) suspension and has a negative impact on surgical results. To explore the prevention methods of this complication, the authors compared the incidence of it between the below-conjunctiva fornix-bulbar conjunctiva-Tenon capsule (CBT) approach and the above-CBT approach to dissecting CFS in CFS suspension and shared their experience in the treatment of bulbar conjunctival prolapse. METHODS: From January of 2020 to August of 2021, 81 patients with severe congenital ptosis who underwent CFS suspension were enrolled and divided into two groups. Forty-five patients' (group A) CFS was dissected by means of the below-CBT approach and 36 patients' (group B) CFS was dissected by means of the above-CBT approach. Data regarding the incidence and outcomes of bulbar conjunctival prolapse and the postoperative condition were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: The incidence of bulbar conjunctival prolapse was 24.44% in group A and 2.78% in group B. Of the 12 bulbar conjunctival prolapse patients, seven patients' conditions improved after conservative treatment, and five did not. All of them underwent bulbar conjunctiva resection within 1 year and were cured. No recurrent prolapse was observed within 3 months postoperatively. At the last follow-up, the mean marginal reflex distance 1 and palpebral fissure height were 4.09 ± 0.19 mm and 9.85 ± 0.62 mm, respectively. There were no complications except lagophthalmos (16 eyelids), asymmetric eyelid contour (one patient), and trichiasis (two eyelids). CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of bulbar conjunctival prolapse decreased significantly by dissecting CFS by means of the above-CBT approach. For patients with bulbar conjunctival prolapse after CFS suspension, bulbar conjunctiva resection could provide satisfactory results. CLINICAL QUESTION/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic, IV.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Poor Bell's phenomenon is often considered a relative contraindication for ptosis surgery, as it increases the risk of corneal exposure and dry eye symptoms after surgery. However, the Bell's phenomenon may vary in different individuals and sleep stages, making it inaccurate to predict the position of the eye during sleep based on awake examination. This study aimed to investigate the role of Bell's phenomenon in ptosis surgery and the management of nocturnal lagophthalmos. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective case series of 23 patients with ptosis and poor Bell's phenomenon who underwent different surgical techniques at Xijing Hospital from April 2020 to June 2021. We assessed Bell's phenomenon at different stages of sleep and collected data on ptosis degree, surgical approach, lagophthalmos, complications, and outcomes. RESULTS: Of the total 23 patients originally considered for study, 9 with frontalis muscle advancement technique, 8 with conjoint fascial sheath suspension, 4 with levator resection technique, and 2 with levator aponeurosis plication technique. All patients achieved satisfactory correction of ptosis. One patient had prolonged lagophthalmos and underwent reoperation to lower the eyelid height. Other complications were minor and resolved with conservative treatment. CONCLUSION: We conclude that poor Bell's phenomenon is not a relative contraindication for ptosis surgery. Nocturnal lagophthalmos should be monitored after ptosis surgery regardless of the Bell's phenomenon results. Tape eyelid closure can be an effective solution to protect the corneal surface during nocturnal lagophthalmos. RESUMO

The quality (color, tenderness, juiciness, protein content, and fat content) of poultry meat is closely linked to age, with older birds typically exhibiting increased intramuscular fat (IMF) deposition. However, specific lipid metabolic pathways involved in IMF deposition remain unknown. To elucidate the mechanisms underlying lipid changes, we conducted a study using meat geese at 2 distinct growth stages (70 and 300 d). Our findings regarding the approximate composition of the meat revealed that as the geese aged 300 d, their meat acquired a chewier texture and displayed higher levels of IMF. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) was employed for lipid profiling of the IMF. Using a lipid database, we identified 849 lipids in the pectoralis muscle of geese. Principal component analysis and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis were used to distinguish between the 2 age groups and identify differential lipid metabolites. As expected, we observed significant changes in 107 lipids, including triglycerides, diglycerides, phosphatidylethanolamine, alkyl-glycerophosphoethanolamine, alkenyl-glycerophosphoethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, lysophosphatidylserine, ceramide-AP, ceramide-AS, free fatty acids, cholesterol lipids, and N-acyl-lysophosphatidylethanolamine. Among these, the glyceride molecules exhibited the most pronounced changes and played a pivotal role in IMF deposition. Additionally, increased concentration of phospholipid molecules was observed in breast muscle at 70 d. Unsaturated fatty acids attached to lipid side chain sites enrich the nutritional value of goose meat. Notably, C16:0 and C18:0 were particularly abundant in the 70-day-old goose meat. Pathway analysis demonstrated that glycerophospholipid and glyceride metabolism were the pathways most significantly associated with lipid changes during goose growth, underscoring their crucial role in lipid metabolism in goose meat. In conclusion, this work provides an up-to-date study on the lipid composition and metabolic pathways of goose meat and may provide a theoretical basis for elucidating the nutritional value of goose meat at different growth stages.

RESUMO

The East China region is the main market for the breeding and consumption of meat geese in China, in order to provide data reference for small and medium-sized farms and farmers to choose breeding methods and growth performance. This study selected 300 Yangzhou geese as materials and determined the number of geese in each group according to different modes. The meat quality, blood biochemical indicators, and economic benefits of 4 common feeding methods (Group I: full concentrate feeding; Group II: concentrate feeding in the first stage + 3% fat addition in the later stage; Group III: concentrate feeding + pasture supplementation; Group IV: grazing feeding + concentrate) in East China were analyzed. The results are as follows: The average daily weight gain of Yangzhou geese in Group IV at 5 to 8 wk old was the highest, with the highest feed utilization rate. The body weight at 8 wk old was significantly higher than that of the group III (P < 0.05). The total mortality rate of Group I and II remained at a relatively low level, while the mortality rates of Group III and IV exceeded 17%. The SR, FECR, and FECW of female geese in Groups II, III, and IV were significantly higher than those in Control group I (P < 0.05). Different feeding methods have little effect on the quality of goose breast muscles, while in terms of leg muscles, Group II has the highest binding force, significantly higher than Group I (P < 0.05). The rate of chest muscle loss in group III was significantly higher than that in groups I and II (P < 0.05). However, the pH of leg muscles in groups I, II and III was significantly higher than that in group IV (P < 0.05). Group II has the highest protein and collagen content, and Group I has the highest fat content. Except for the significantly higher histidine content in Groups I And II compared to those in Groups III and IV (P < 0.05), there was almost no significant difference in amino acid content among the groups (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in ALB/GLO content among the 3 groups of Groups II to IV, but they were all significantly higher than those of Group I (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in other indicators among the groups (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in the content of Ca, Cu, Fe, P, Zn, and other elements in the muscles between the groups (P > 0.05). This study solved the problems of slow growth, poor meat performance, and low economic benefits in meat goose breeding, providing theoretical basis and data support for meat goose breeding enterprises and farmers to choose appropriate breeding modes.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lagophthalmos, a common complication after blepharoptosis correction, has plagued oculoplastic surgeons. The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of tape eyelid closure on reducing the occurrence of lagophthalmos after blepharoptosis correction. METHODS: From April 2020 to June 2021, a total of 112 patients with severe congenital ptosis received corrective surgery at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Xijing Hospital, Fourth Military Medical University. Of these, 48 underwent frontalis muscle advancement technique and 64 underwent conjoint fascial sheath suspension. Preoperative data collected included demographics, levator function, Bell's phenomenon, and marginal reflex distance 1 (MRD1). Postoperative data included surgery type, MRD1, eyelid closure function, aesthetic outcomes (including eyelid contour, eyelid symmetry, and eyelid crease), keratitis, and other complications. RESULTS: Frontalis muscle advancement technique group: the median of safe eye closure time was 7.3 months (positive Bell's phenomenon; interquartile range [IQR], 3.8-10.8 months) and 13.9 months (poor Bell's phenomenon; IQR, 11.6-16.1 months). There was a significant improvement between the preoperative and postoperative MRD1 (-1.52 ± 0.82 vs 3.85 ± 0.58 mm, P < 0.05). Conjoint fascial sheath suspension group: the median of safe eye closure time was 5.7 months (positive Bell's phenomenon; IQR, 2.9-8.5 months) and 12.4 months (poor Bell's phenomenon; IQR, 8.1-16.7 months). There was a significant improvement between the preoperative and postoperative MRD1 (-1.02 ± 0.91 vs 4.15 ± 1.03 mm, P < 0.05). All patients/guardians were satisfied with the aesthetic outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: Tape tarsorrhaphy is a safe, easy-to-learn method for treating lagophthalmos with a good aesthetic outcome.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Severe congenital ptosis is a common ocular deformity in pediatric patients that can significantly impact visual development and aesthetic appearance, leading to negative psychosocial outcomes. The frontalis muscle advancement technique is a well-established surgical treatment for severe congenital ptosis. Aesthetic changes of the brow-eye continuum often plays an important role in ptosis surgery. METHODS: We conducted a single-center retrospective case series study of patients with severe congenital ptosis who underwent the frontalis muscle advancement technique at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Xijing Hospital, Fourth Military Medical University between April 2020 and June 2021. The study aimed to evaluate the aesthetic changes of the eyebrow-eyelid continuum after surgery. The main outcome measurements included marginal reflex distance 1, palpebral fissure height, eyebrow position, upper eyelid to lower eyebrow distance, lower eyelid to upper eyebrow distance, and nasal base to lower eyelid distance. RESULTS: The study included 48 patients (66 eyelids), with 30 unilateral and 18 bilateral patients. Our analysis found that eyebrow height decreased by an average of 4.8% postoperatively relative to preoperatively in all patients. CONCLUSIONS: The frontalis muscle advancement technique has demonstrated effectiveness in achieving aesthetically pleasing outcomes in children with severe ptosis. It is crucial to pay careful attention to the brow-eye continuum during the correction process, as its harmony can greatly impact the final result.

RESUMO

The electrocatalytic splitting of water to produce hydrogen is regarded as an efficient and promising strategy but is limited by its large overpotential; thus, a highly efficient electrocatalyst is urgently needed. Mixed metal doping is an important strategy in defect engineering because the heteroatoms can change the intrinsic structure to form defects by affecting the atomic coordination mode and adjusting the electronic structure, which is often accompanied by morphological changes. Herein, two-dimensional layered bimetallic Co-pydc containing axially coordinated water molecules was selected by producing surface defects through Fe doping in Co centers as bifunctional electrocatalysts for OER and HER. The optimized Co0.59Fe0.41-pydc possesses outstanding OER performance with the lowest overpotential of 262 mV to reach j = 10 mA cm-2, and Co0.75Fe0.25-pydc possesses superior HER performance with the lowest overpotential of 96 mV at j = 10 mA cm-2. Furthermore, the overall water splitting device assembled with Co0.59Fe0.41-pydc@NF//Co0.59Fe0.41-pydc@NF affords a current density of 10 mA cm-2 at only 1.687 V. This work emphasizes the surface defects formed by tuning the electronic structure of metal centres accompanied with morphological changes of bimetallic dopants for efficient overall water splitting.

RESUMO

The development of the knob in Chinese geese (Anser cygnodies) is an outcome of extensive and prolonged selection and breeding. The knob serves not only as a visual indicator of sexual maturity in geese but also holds significance as a crucial packaging trait that attracts attention of consumers attentions, who tend to distinctly prefer geese with larger knobs. Consequently, investigating the formation of the knob holds practical value, as it will help achieving external traits aligned with consumers' preferences. To understand the relationship between knob size, production efficiency, and meat quality in Yangzhou geese, we examined histological and anatomical characteristics in 500- and 120-day-old geese with large and small knobs. Notably, knob size had a pronounced impact on key anatomical and structural parameters, such as chest depth, leg muscle water-binding capacity, and insoluble collagen composition in Yangzhou geese (p < 0.05). In addition, we measured testosterone and estrogen levels in male and female geese, respectively, as well as growth hormone, and found that birds of both sexes with a large knob had higher sex and growth hormone levels in the body. This study established a fundamental theoretical basis for advancing the enhancement of goose knob traits.

RESUMO

Meridian-tendon is a central concept in meridian theory of TCM, and its basic research has been increasingly emphasized. While there is no unified understanding of the essence of meridian-tendon, the concept that function of fascia could partially reflect the functions of meridian-tendons has reached consensus in the academic community. This article suggests that under the guidance of meridian-tendon theory, based on previous research foundation of fascia, focusing on adopting fascia research methods, the mechanisms of tender point hyperalgesia and abnormal proliferation related to meridian lesions should be adopted to explain yitong weishu (taking the worst painful sites of muscle spasm as the points), and the mechanisms of meridian intervention efficacy should be adopted to explain yizhi weishu (feelings from patients and acupuncture operators). Furthermore, this article provides an analysis of the future trends in basic research of meridian tendons.

RESUMO

As a biocontrol bacteria, Brevibacillus has been the subject of extensive research for agricultural applications. Antibacterial peptides (AMPs) are the main antibacterial products of Brevibacillus. This study isolated a strain of Br. brevis HNCS-1 from tea garden soil, and the strain has an antagonistic effect against five types of pathogens of tea diseases, namely Gloeosporium theae-sinensis, Elsinoe leucospira, Phyllosticta theaefolia, Fusarium sp., and Cercospora theae. To determine the genetic characteristics implicated in the biocontrol mechanism, the genome sequence of the HNCS-1 strain was obtained and analyzed further, and the data are deposited in the GenBank repository (No. CP128411). Comparative genomics analyses revealed that the HNCS-1 strain and 17 public Br. brevis share a core genome composed of 3,742 genes. Interestingly, only one non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) gene cluster annotated as edeine is present in the core genome. And UHPLC-MS/MS detection results showd that edeine B and edeine A were the principal antibacterial peptides in the HNCS-1 strain. This study proves that edeine is the main antibacterial peptide of Br. brevis, and provides a new strategy for the identification of antibacterial products from other biocontrol bacteria.
