RESUMO

Cerambycidae is one of the largest families of beetles, containing about 38,000 described species (Tavakilian Chevillotte 2018). In most species of this family, adults possess a stridulatory device that allows them to produce squeaking sounds (Wang 2017). In the subfamilies Prioninae and Parandrinae, individuals stridulate by rubbing their ridged hind femora against elytral margins (Svácha Lawrence 2014). In the other subfamilies, including Lamiinae, the stridulation is produced by friction between the ventral face of the posterior pronotal margin (plectrum) and a striated plate on the mesoscutum (pars stridens) (Svácha Lawrence 2014). Although some adults produce sounds during courtship and copulation, this sound production occurs mainly when individuals are disturbed, being considered a defensive mechanism that might act as a startle response against predators (Dumortier 1963; Svácha Lawrence 2014; Wang 2017).

RESUMO

The descriptions of two species of Lamiinae, Lepturges (Lepturges) batesi sp. nov. (Acanthocinini) and Onocephala chicomendes sp. nov. (Onocephalini) and an addendum of Cerambycinae and Lamiinae to the list of species of Cerambycidae in the Itatiaia National Park are presented. The data are based on fieldwork conducted over the last six years. Eighteen species of Cerambycinae and 21 of Lamiinae are recorded, with a total of 39 new distribution records.

RESUMO

Host plants of Cerambycidae and Vesperidae (Coleoptera, Chrysomeloidea) from South America. This paper offers a contribution to the knowledge on host plants of Cerambycidae and Vesperidae (Coleoptera, Chrysomeloidea) from South America. A total of 211 species of longhorn beetles belonging to 111 genera, 49 tribes, five subfamilies and two families are presented with records of host plants. Data on 259 species of host plants distributed among 188 genera and 69 families are listed with the beetle species.
