OBJECTIVES: To develop and validate a web-based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) tool to enhance symptoms monitoring among patients with Sjögren's disease (SjD). METHODS: Consecutive adults with SjD were enrolled in this pilot observational study. Participants used the WebApp over a 3-month period, for the daily collection of individual EULAR Sjögren's Syndrome Patient Reported Index (ESSPRI) scales and separate assessment of eyes and mouth dryness, using 0-10 numerical scales. Primary outcome was the measure of the interdaily variability of symptoms. Data collected through the WebApp were compared with those obtained with paper-based questionnaires administered during a final visit, using distinct approaches (predicted error, maximum negative error and maximum positive error). User experience was assessed using the System Usability Scale (SUS) score. RESULTS: Among the 45 participants, 41 (91.1%) were women. Median age was 57 years (IQR: 49-66). Daily variability of symptoms ranged between 0.5 and 0.8 points across the scales. Over the 3-month period, the predicted error ranged between -1.2 and -0.3 points of the numerical scales. The greatest differences were found for fatigue (-1.2 points (IQR: -2.3 to -0.2)) and ESSPRI score (-1.2 points (IQR: -1.7 to -0.3)). Over the last 2 weeks, the predicted error ranged between - 1.2 and 0.0 points. Maximum negative error ranged between -2.0 and -1.0 points, and maximum positive error between -0.3 and 0.0 points. Median SUS score was 90 (IQR: 85-95). CONCLUSION: Our results demonstrate the usability and the relevance of our web-based EMA tool for capturing data that closely reflects daily experiences of patients with SjD.

This study aims to assess validity evidence of the new phacoemulsification module of the HelpMeSee [HMS] virtual reality simulator. Conducted at the Ophthalmology Department of Strasbourg University Hospital and Gepromed Education Department, Strasbourg, France, this cross-sectional study divided 20 surgeons into two groups based on their experience over or under 300 cataract surgeries. Surgeons filled out a background survey covering their phacoemulsification experience and prior simulator use before undergoing single-session simulations on the EyeSi [EYS] and HMS simulators. Handgrip strength was measured pre- and post-simulation to evaluate grip fatigue. Afterwards, surgeons rated the perceived realism on a seven-point Likert scale. Participants were predominantly right-handed males, with expert surgeons averaging 44 years and intermediate surgeons 29 years of age. Expert surgeons had completed around 2000 phacoemulsification surgeries compared to 150 by intermediates. Primary outcome was to assess the construct validity of HMS simulator based on the difference in total and modules scores between both groups. Significant performance differences were observed between the two groups, with experts scoring higher. HMS scores were 35.8 ± 1.5 out of 46 points for experts and 27.2 ± 2.3 for intermediates (p = 0.006). For EYS, scores were 405.2 ± 20.3 out of 500 points for experts and 327.8 ± 25.2 for intermediates (p = 0.028). Experts experienced significantly less grip fatigue post-simulation on HMS compared to intermediates. This research evaluates validity evidence of HMS's phacoemulsification modules for the first time. It emphasizes the potential to broaden simulation-based training by targeting diverse populations.

PURPOSE: To compare two drainage techniques in macula-off retinal detachment surgery: perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL)-assisted drainage and partial subretinal fluid drainage without PFCL. This study investigated morphological and functional outcomes, focusing on metamorphopsia quantification. METHODS: Eighty eyes with macula-off retinal detachment were retrospectively included. All underwent a 25-gauge pars plana vitrectomy. In the PFCL group, subretinal fluid drainage was performed using PFCL. In the partial subretinal fluid drainage (SRFD) group, subretinal fluid was partially drained through a preexisting retinal break without PFCL. A follow-up at 3 months and 6 months evaluated anatomical outcomes using optical coherence tomography, best-corrected visual acuity, and metamorphopsia quantified with M-charts. RESULTS: Reattachment rates were comparable in the PFCL group (97.5%) and the SRFD group (95%) ( P > 0.05). Mean best-corrected visual acuity (logMAR) was 0.23 ± 0.32 (PFCL group) and 0.15 ± 0.13 (SRFD group) ( P = 0.206). Metamorphopsia was reported by 19 patients (47.5%) in the PFCL group and by 12 patients (30%) in the SRFD group ( P = 0.332). The mean metamorphopsia score was similar in both groups (0.27 ± 0.12 in the PFCL group and 0.28 ± 0.11 in the SRFD group, P = 0.866). Morphological optical coherence tomography findings were comparable in both groups. CONCLUSION: Morphological and functional outcomes were similar in PFCL and SRFD groups. Metamorphopsia quantification scores did not improve with PFCL. While both of these techniques might be effective and could be recommended for primary macula-off retinal detachment management, potential PFCL toxicity should be kept in mind and its use dedicated to selected cases.

PURPOSE: To investigate if phacoemulsification experience impacts and transfers to the skill acquisition of novices in manual small incision cataract surgery (MSICS) within a simulation environment. SETTING: Copenhagen Academy for Medical Education and Simulation, Denmark. DESIGN: Prospective controlled experimental study. METHODS: The study included 29 residents or specialist in ophthalmology with no prior MSICS experience. Participants were required to either have 1) proficiency on the EyeSi surgical simulator (PG; phaco group) or 2) no prior extensive exposure to the EyeSi simulator or any phacoemulsification surgery experience as a primary surgeon (CG; control group). Possible skill transfer was assessed using a test on the HelpMeSee virtual-reality simulator, including nine modules and 30 steps (points). A pass/fail score was determined at 20 points (out of 30 points). Performance scores were analyzed using independent samples t-tests, pass rates using Fisher's exact test, and individual modules using Fisher-Freeman-Halton analysis. RESULT: The PG performed significantly better in terms of overall performance score (mean SD, PG; 21.8 points 2.3 versus CG; 18.9 points 2.2, p = 0.002, t-value = -3.39) and pass rates (PG; 72 % versus CG; 22%, p = 0.018). The sub-analysis for individual modules demonstrated significant differences exclusively in the capsulorhexis and cortex removal modules. CONCLUSION: The results suggest a positive inter-procedural transfer of skills between phacoemulsification and MSICS. Pretraining and experience in phacoemulsification demonstrated a significant effect on the performance of MSICS within a simulation environment. These findings suggest that phacoemulsification experience provides an advantage before MSICS training in surgical residency programs.

Hypersomnia spectrum disorders are underdiagnosed and poorly treated due to their heterogeneity and absence of biomarkers. The electroretinography has been proposed as a proxy of central dysfunction and has proved to be valuable to differentiate certain psychiatric disorders. Hypersomnolence is a shared core feature in central hypersomnia and psychiatric disorders. We therefore aimed to identify biomarkers by studying the electroretinography profile in patients with narcolepsy type 1, idiopathic hypersomnia and in controls. Cone, rod and retinal ganglion cells electrical activity were recorded with flash-electroretinography in non-dilated eye of 31 patients with idiopathic hypersomnia (women 84%, 26.6 ± 5.9 years), 19 patients with narcolepsy type 1 (women 63%, 36.6 ± 12.7 years) and 43 controls (women 58%, 30.6â ± 9.3 years). Reduced cone a-wave amplitude (p = 0.039) and prolonged cone (p = 0.022) and rod b-wave (p = 0.009) latencies were observed in patients with narcolepsy type 1 as compared with controls, while prolonged photopic negative response-wave latency (retinal ganglion cells activity) was observed in patients with idiopathic hypersomnia as compared with controls (p = 0.033). The rod and cone b-wave latency clearly distinguished narcolepsy type 1 from idiopathic hypersomnia and controls (area under the curve > 0.70), and the photopic negative response-wave latency distinguished idiopathic hypersomnia and narcolepsy type 1 from controls with an area under the curve > 0.68. This first original study shows electroretinography anomalies observed in patients with hypersomnia. Narcolepsy type 1 is associated with impaired cone and rod responses, whereas idiopathic hypersomnia is associated with impaired retinal ganglion cells response, suggesting different phototransduction alterations in both hypersomnias. Although these results need to be confirmed with a larger sample size, the electroretinography may be a promising tool for clinicians to differentiate hypersomnia subtypes.

Purpose: Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common neoplastic blood disease worldwide. Belantamab mafodotin is a new antibody conjugate anti-B-cell maturation antigen effective against refractory myelomas. It induces intracorneal microcysts leading to refractive fluctuations. The aim of this study is to assess the value of monitoring refractive fluctuations based on the location of microcystic-like epithelial changes (MECs) to facilitate patient follow-up. Methods: This observational and multicentric study was conducted using data collected from several French centers contacted through secure email through a standardized data collection table. Results: The fluctuation of objective refraction in spherical equivalent confirms a significant myopic shift from peripheral to central forms. A decrease in the best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), an increase in keratometry, and an increase in central epithelial pachymetry have also been observed when MECs migrate toward the center. Conclusion: The myopization found in our study in patients with central and paracentral MECs is consistent with current literature. Fluctuations in BCVA, keratometry, and epithelial pachymetry are also consistent. This study is the first real-world study and highlights heterogeneity in follow-up, emphasizing the need to establish multidisciplinary follow-up strategies. The analysis of refractive fluctuations appears to be a reproducible and noninvasive screening method that could facilitate patient follow-up without the need for consultation focused on corneal diseases.

AIMS: To report an epidemiological update of bacterial keratitis (BK) in a tertiary ophthalmology centre over 20 months compared with a previous study on the same timeframe from 1998 to 1999. METHODS: 354 patients with BK documented by microbiological corneal scraping or resolutive under antibiotics treatment from January 2020 to September 2021 were analysed retrospectively. RESULTS: One or several risk factors were found in 95.2% of patients: contact lens wear (45.2%), ocular surface disease (25.0%), systemic disease (21.8%), ocular trauma (11.9%) and ocular surgery (8.8%). The positivity rate of corneal scrapings was 82.5%, with 18.2% polybacterial. One hundred seventy-five (59.9%) bacteria were Gram-negative, and 117 (40.1%) were Gram-positive. The most common bacteria were Pseudomonas aeruginosa (32.5%), Moraxella spp (18.1%) and Staphylococcus aureus (8.2%). Final visual acuity (logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution) was associated with age (r=+0.48; p=0.0001), infiltrate size (r=+0.32; p<0.0001), ocular surface disease (r=+0.13; p=0.03), ocular trauma (r=-0.14; p=0.02) and contact lens wear (r=-0.26; p<0.0001). Gram-negative bacteria were responsible for deeper (r=+0.18; p=0.004) and more extensive infiltrates (r=+0.18; p=0.004) in younger patients (r=-0.19; p=0.003). Compared with the previous period, the positivity rate of corneal scrapings and the proportion of Gram-negative bacteria, especially Moraxella spp, increased. All P. aeruginosa and Moraxella spp were sensitive to quinolones, and all S. aureus were sensitive to both quinolones and methicillin. CONCLUSION: Contact lens wear remained the leading risk factor. The bacteria distribution was reversed, with a predominance of Gram-negative bacteria and increased Moraxella spp.

BACKGROUND: Our objective is twofold: determining if simulation allows residents to reach proficient surgeons' performance concerning fundamental technical skills of endovascular surgery (FEVS) while investigating effects of the program on surgeons' stress. METHODS: Using a FEVS training simulator, 8 endovascular FEVS were performed by vascular surgery residents (simulator-naive or simulator-experienced residents [SER]) and seniors. Total time needed to complete the 8 tasks, called total completion time (TCT), was the main evaluation criterion. Analgesia Nociception Index (ANI) was monitored during simulation. Likert scale questionnaire was filled out after each simulation. RESULTS: For each task, TCT was significantly lower for SER and seniors than simulator-naive residents (P = 0.0163). After only 5 simulations, SER were able to reach and even exceed the seniors' level in terms of TCT, with a median time of 10.8 min for SER and 11.9 min for seniors, and wire's movements with a median distance during cannulation of 4.44 m for SER and 4.17 m for seniors. Seniors remained better than SER in terms of precise wire manipulation (wire movement after cannulation), 4.17 m against 4.44 m (3.72-5.96), respectively. Based on the Likert scale stress analysis, seniors felt less stressed than both residents' groups (P = 0.0618). Seniors' initial ANI and mean ANI over the session were significantly lower than those of the residents, P = 0.0358 and P = 0.0250, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: We showed that 5 simulation sessions allowed residents to reach experienced surgeons' capacities on FEVS concerning TCT. Subjectively, seniors felt less stressed than residents, contrary to the results of our objective measures of stress.

PURPOSE: We aimed to identify ocular comorbidities and reasons of blindness in monocular patients and to compare visual outcomes of cataract surgery between monocular and binocular patients. METHODS: A single-center case-control study was conducted between November 2011 and May 2019 to compare consecutive series of patients needing cataract surgery in Strasbourg University Hospitals, France. Cases were patients with permanent monocular vision loss. Controls were binocularly sighted patients. All patients underwent cataract surgery using phacoemulsification technique. Chart analysis included demographic data, medical history, and surgical determinants data. Student's t tests and Fisher's exact tests were the main methods used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: Each group included 80 patients. The mean age at the time of surgery was significantly higher in monocular than binocular patients (77 vs. 71 years, p < 0.001). Thirty-two monocular patients (40%) had ocular comorbidities, compared to only 19 (23%) in the control group (p < 0.05). The leading cause of monocular status was amblyopia caused by strabismus (22 patients, 27.5%). Age-related macular degeneration, open-angle glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy were the three main ocular comorbidities that were observed in the monocular group. Monocular patients had significantly lower visual acuity than the control group (p < 0.01) before and after cataract surgery. Conversely, improvement in visual acuity after surgery was not statistically different between groups (p = 0.054). There was no statistically significant difference in the rate of surgical complications between groups (p = 0.622). CONCLUSIONS: This study illustrates that cataract surgery in monocular patients is not more complicated than in binocular patients, but that it is significantly delayed.

Purpose: To report the effect of internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling prior to Voretigen Neparvovec-ryzl (VN) subretinal injection on focal chorioretinal atrophy development in patients presenting with RPE65-mediated Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA). Design: Retrospective case series. Methods: Three patients who underwent bilateral subretinal VN injection for RPE65-mediated LCA were followed up for 18-24 months. ILM peeling was performed unilaterally in patients 1 and 2 and bilaterally in patient 3. Chorioretinal atrophy was identified on fundus biomicroscopy, non-mydriatic retinography and/or ultrawide field fundus imaging. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), visual fields, full-field stimulus threshold (FST) and visual functioning questionnaire score (NEI-VFQ-25) were reported. Outcome measures were changes in BCVA, visual fields, FST, NEI-VFQ-25, and chorioretinal atrophy location. Results: Chorioretinal atrophy at the injection site exclusively developed in eyes which did not undergo prior ILM peeling. In patient 3, bilateral pre-operative nummular chorioretinal alterations progressed toward epithelial atrophic patches in the mid and extreme retinal periphery 18 months after VN injection. BCVA and visual fields improved bilaterally. NEI_VFQ 25 remained stable in patient 1 and improved in patient 2 and 3. FST test improved bilaterally in patient 3. Conclusions: ILM peeling prior to VN injection seems to be a smoother and safer technique to administer VN treatment and may prevent secondary focal atrophy development at the injection site. However, another type of more extended chorioretinal atrophy might exist and could be related to LCA evolution or to incompletely understood adverse effect of VN product.

BACKGROUND: To assess the long-term incidence and risk factors for post-keratoplasty infectious keratitis (IK), associated ocular pathogens, and antibiotic resistance profiles. METHODS: Cohort study including 2553 consecutive penetrating, endothelial, and anterior lamellar keratoplasties performed between 1992 and 2020. Medical and microbiological records of patients clinically diagnosed with IK were retrospectively reviewed. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: cumulative incidence of IK, infectious agent species, and antibiotics resistance profiles. RESULTS: The average follow-up time after transplantation was 112 ± 96 months. Eighty-nine IK episodes were recorded; microbiological tests were positive in 55/89 (62%). The cumulated incidence of postoperative IK was 5.50%/10.25% at 10/20 years. The occurrence of at least one episode of IK after transplantation was associated with lower graft survival in the long term (p < 0.0001). Rejection risk (adjusted Hazard Ratio, 2.29) and postoperative epithelial complications (HR, 3.44) were significantly and independently associated with a higher incidence of postoperative IK. Infectious agents included 41 bacteria, 10 HSV, 6 fungi, and 1 Acanthamoeba. The rate of antibiotic resistance was 0% for vancomycin, 13% for fluoroquinolones, 20% for rifamycin, 59% for aminoglycosides, and 73% for ticarcillin. In 41% of cases, patients were under prophylactic topical antibiotics before the infectious episode. Topical antibiotics were significantly associated with increased resistance to penicillin, carbapenems, and aminoglycosides. CONCLUSION: IK (mainly bacterial) is a frequent complication of corneal transplantation in the long term. Vancomycin and fluoroquinolones can be considered as first-line treatments. Prolonged postoperative antibiotic preventive treatment is not advisable as it may increase antibiotic resistance.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the macular microvascular changes using optical coherence tomographic angiography (OCT-A) in children with unilateral amblyopia and their reversibility during treatment. METHODS: Patients with unilateral strabismic or anisometropic amblyopia or residual amblyopia from early congenital cataract surgery, examined between October 2019 and March 2021, were included. Vessel density and perfusion density in the superficial capillary plexus and area, perimeter and circularity of the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) were analysed using OCT-A in amblyopic eyes, contralateral eyes and control group healthy eyes. Correlation analyses between the microvascular parameters and the visual acuity were performed. In a pilot study on a few patients from the amblyopic cohort, longitudinal follow-up during treatment was also performed. RESULTS: A total of 128 eyes of 64 patients were included: 32 amblyopic eyes compared with 32 contralateral eyes and 64 control eyes. Vessel density and perfusion density in the superficial capillary plexus were significantly lower in amblyopic eyes compared to control eyes in 6 × 6â mm (p < 0.02) and 3 × 3â mm (p < 0.01) scans. Correlation analyses showed a linear decrease in vessel density and perfusion density with decreasing visual acuity. The microvascular changes observed were reversible with the occlusion treatment of amblyopia (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The study found a decrease in vessel density and perfusion density in the macula of children with unilateral functional amblyopia. These microvascular changes were correlated with visual acuity and appeared to be reversible with treatment of amblyopia. On the whole, OCT-A appears to be a relevant complementary examination when it comes to diagnosing and monitoring functional amblyopia.

PURPOSE: To survey recently graduated European ophthalmologists concerning cataract surgery (CS) training opportunities. SETTING: Countries affiliated to the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO). DESIGN: Cross-sectional study of anonymous survey results. METHODS: A 23-question online survey was emailed to candidates who sat the EBO Diploma Examination as residents between 2018 and 2022. RESULTS: 821 ophthalmologists from 30 countries completed the survey. The mean residency duration was 4.73 (SD 0.9) years. The mean reported number of entire CS procedures performed was 80.7 (SD 100.6) at the end of residency, but more than 25% of respondents (n = 210) had received no live CS training during their residency. The self-confidence (scale, 1 to 10) to perform a simple case or challenging case, manage posterior capsular rupture, and realize a corneal stitch were rated 4.1, 3.2, 4.2, 2.4, respectively. We observed extensive variation in clinical exposure to CS and self-reported confidence to perform CS between European trainees. Females reported a mean of 18% fewer entire procedures than their male colleagues and were also less confident in their surgical skills (P < .05). Trainees in residency programs longer than 5 years performed fewer procedures and were less confident than trainees in residences of shorter duration (P < .001). The importance of fellowships to complete surgical education was rated 7.7 out of 10. CONCLUSIONS: CS training across European countries lacks harmony. Female ophthalmology trainees continue, as in other specialties, to experience apparent gender bias. European level recommendations seem necessary to raise and harmonize competency-based CS training programs and promote post-residency fellowship training programs.

PURPOSE: To report two cases of persistent macular edema caused by the exudation of diabetic telangiectatic capillaries (TelCaps) which have been successfully treated with photodynamic therapy (PDT). METHODS: review of data from two patients suffering from persistent macular edema caused by parafoveolar TelCaps. In both cases, conventional laser was impossible, because TelCaps were to close from foveal center. RESULTS: The use of focal PDT on perifoveolar TelCaps permitted to reduce persistent macular edema and to avoid inefficient intra-vitreal anti-vascular epithelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) or steroid injections. In both cases, visual acuity was fully restored four to six months after PDT. Central Macular Thickness was also normalized in the first case and significantly reduced in the second case. In both cases, visual gain was sustained throughout the whole follow-up period (2 and 1 year respectively). CONCLUSION: PDT can be helpful to treat diabetic macular edema caused by TelCaps non-responding to approved intravitreal therapy or for which conventional laser is contraindicated.

INTRODUCTION: Keratoconus has a significant impact on patients' quality of life (QoL), from diagnosis to the advanced stages of the disease. The aim of this research was to identify domains of QoL affected by this disease and its treatment. METHODS: Phone interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview guide, with patients with keratoconus stratified according to their current treatment. A board of keratoconus experts helped identify the guide's main themes. RESULTS: Thirty-five patients (rigid contact lenses, n = 9; cross-linking, n = 9; corneal ring implants, n = 8; and corneal transplantation, n = 9) were interviewed by qualitative researchers. Phone interviews revealed several QoL domains affected by the disease and its treatments: "psychological", "social life", "professional life", "financial costs" and "student life". All domains were impacted, independently of the treatment history. Few differences were found between treatment regimens and keratoconus stages. Qualitative analysis enabled the development of a conceptual framework based on Wilson and Cleary's model for patient outcomes common to all patients. This conceptual model describes the relationship between patients' characteristics, their symptoms, their environment, their functional visual impairment and the impact on their QoL. CONCLUSIONS: These qualitative findings supported the generation of a questionnaire to evaluate the impact of keratoconus and its treatment on patients' QoL. Cognitive debriefings confirmed its content validity. The questionnaire is applicable for all stages of keratoconus and treatments and may help tracking change over time in regular clinical settings. Psychometric validation is yet to be performed before its use in research and clinical practices.

PURPOSE: To report binocular visual function changes after pars plana vitrectomy for epiretinal membrane (ERM) and the related outcomes. METHODS: Twenty-three eyes of 23 patients operated on for ERM were included in a retrospective study. Clinical data, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), contrast sensitivity and binocular visual function were assessed pre- and 1 and 3 months post-operatively. Binocular visual function assessment included the evaluation of fusional amplitudes (i.e., vergences) by the synoptophore, far distance stereopsis using polarized glasses and near stereopsis using Randot and TNO tests. Central macular thickness (CMT) was measured on Spectral Domain - Optical Coherence Tomography. RESULTS: Mean age of the patients was 67 years. Mean BCVA and contrast sensitivity significantly improved post-operatively at one (p = 0.0006 and p = 0.0022, respectively) and 3 months (p < 0.0001 and p < 0.0001, respectively), while CMT significantly decreased after 1-3 months (p < 0.0001 and p < 0.0001, respectively). Fusional amplitudes improved after 3 months (p < 0.0001). Far distance and near stereopsis significantly improved after 3 months (p < 0.0001 and p = 0.0007 for Randot test, and p < 0.0001 for TNO test, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Pars plana vitrectomy for ERM surgery leads to an improvement of monocular and binocular visual functions (i.e., binocular fusion, near and far distance stereopsis), within 3 months post-operatively.

PURPOSE: To assess the current diagnostic and therapeutic practice patterns in early management of bacterial keratitis over five continents. METHODS: Between March and August 2019, we distributed an online survey including two clinical scenarios of bacterial keratitis, namely, a mild case and severe case, to 2936 ophthalmologists from 144 countries around the world. The survey consisted of 29 questions. We performed descriptive statistics and a comparative analysis of the answers according to the participants' continent of practice, practice setting, seniority, and subspecialty. RESULTS: We received 237 surveys from 54 countries (8% response rate). The proportion of respondents performing microbiological investigations was higher in North America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania than Africa and South America (p < 0.05). This ratio was also higher among ocular surface specialists than for other ophthalmologists (p < 0.001). For mild cases, fluoroquinolone monotherapy and a combination of two or more antibiotics were prescribed by 46% and 41% respondents, respectively. For severe cases, fluoroquinolone monotherapy and a combination of antibiotics were prescribed by 20% and 78% respondents, respectively. Fluoroquinolone monotherapy was the most commonly prescribed treatment in South America, Africa, and Oceania. A combination of two antibiotics was preferentially prescribed in the rest of the world. Topical steroids were prescribed in both circumstances, respectively, in 72% and 75% of cases. CONCLUSION: Our results highlight essential geographical disparities in the current management of bacterial keratitis over five continents.
