RESUMO

Peritoneal carcinosis is a condition characterized by the spread of cancer cells to the peritoneum, which is the thin membrane that lines the abdominal cavity. It is a serious condition that can result from many different types of cancer, including ovarian, colon, stomach, pancreatic, and appendix cancer. The diagnosis and quantification of lesions in peritoneal carcinosis are critical in the management of patients with the condition, and imaging plays a central role in this process. Radiologists play a vital role in the multidisciplinary management of patients with peritoneal carcinosis. They need to have a thorough understanding of the pathophysiology of the condition, the underlying neoplasms, and the typical imaging findings. In addition, they need to be aware of the differential diagnoses and the advantages and disadvantages of the various imaging methods available. Imaging plays a central role in the diagnosis and quantification of lesions, and radiologists play a critical role in this process. Ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance, and PET/CT scans are used to diagnose peritoneal carcinosis. Each imaging procedure has advantages and disadvantages, and particular imaging techniques are recommended based on patient conditions. Our aim is to provide knowledge to radiologists regarding appropriate techniques, imaging findings, differential diagnoses, and treatment options. With the advent of AI in oncology, the future of precision medicine appears promising, and the interconnection between structured reporting and AI is likely to improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes for patients with peritoneal carcinosis.

Educational interventions are necessary to develop mathematical competence at early ages and prevent widespread mathematics learning failure in the education system as indicated by the results of European reports. Numerous studies agree that domain-specific predictors related to mathematics are symbolic and non-symbolic magnitude comparison, as well as, number line estimation. The goal of this study was to design 4 digital learning app games to train specific cognitive bases of mathematical learning in order to create resources and promote the use of these technologies in the educational community and to promote effective scientific transfer and increase the research visibility. This study involved 193 preschoolers aged 57-79 months. A quasi-experimental design was carried out with 3 groups created after scores were obtained in a standardised mathematical competence assessment test, i.e., low-performance group (N = 49), high-performance group (N = 21), and control group (N = 123). The results show that training with the 4 digital learning app games focusing on magnitude, subitizing, number facts, and estimation tasks improved the numerical skills of the experimental groups, compared to the control group. The implications of the study were, on the one hand, provided verified technological tools for teaching early mathematical competence. On the other hand, this study supports other studies on the importance of cognitive precursors in mathematics performance.

INTRODUCTION: Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID-19, primarily causes a respiratory tract infection that is not limited to respiratory distress syndrome, but it is also implicated in other body systems. Systemic complications were reported due to an exaggerated inflammatory response, which involves severe alveolar damage in the lungs and exacerbates the hypercoagulation that leads to venous thrombosis, ischemic attack, vascular dysfunction and infarction of visceral abdominal organs. Some complications are related to anticoagulant drugs that are administrated to stabilize hypercoagulability, but increase the risk of bleeding, hematoma and hemorrhage. The aim of this study is to report the diagnostic role of CT in the early diagnosis and management of patients with severe COVID-19 complications through the most interesting cases in our experience. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The retrospective analysis of patients studied for COVID-19 in our institution and hospitals, which are part of the university training network, was performed. CASES: Pneumomediastinum, cortical kidney necrosis, splenic infarction, cerebral ischemic stroke, thrombosis of the lower limb and hematomas are the most major complications that are reviewed in this study. CONCLUSIONS: Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CT imaging modality with its high sensitivity and specificity remains the preferred imaging choice to diagnose early the different complications associated with COVID-19, such as thrombosis, ischemic stroke, infarction and pneumomediastinum, and their management, which significantly improved the outcomes.

Clinical embryologists are highly trained laboratory professionals with multiple roles, including laboratory, clinical, biobanking and quality system management. In most European countries, clinical embryologists are trained to work in Medically Assisted Reproduction (MAR) centres without a specifically dedicated educational path. The criteria required for employment vary according to the educational structure and the public or private nature of the centre. We have herein described the educational profile required by Italian clinical embryologists to work in MAR centres of the National Health System (NHS). Public centres currently represent 36% of all the Italian MAR clinics. According to the Italian law, a future clinical embryologist must achieve a 3-4 year unpaid post-graduate specialization in a different field, choosing from Genetics, Microbiology, Clinical Pathology or Nutrition. Accesses to the above-mentioned post-graduate courses are themselves very limited. Clinical embryologists are basically trained by senior colleagues. This situation makes inevitably difficult to recruit laboratory staff in NHS centres. Moreover, it represents an emblematic example of the need for an equal training curriculum, possibly ensuring a comparable education quality, mobility of trainees and dissemination of skills for clinical embryologists all over Europe.

The most consumed cereal-based product worldwide is bread. "Caaveiro", an autochthonous variety with a recent growing interest, is one of the wheat varieties that fulfill the 25% local flour requirement in the PGI "Pan Galego" bread baking industry. The element content of the refined wheat flours used to make "Pan Galego" (''Caaveiro'', FCv; Castilla, FC; and a mixture of both, FM) was evaluated in ICP-MS. In addition, wholegrain flour (FWM) was included in the analysis. Loaves of bread were made with these flours (a, 100% FC; b, 100% FCv); and c, FM: 75% FC + 25% FCv) and their element content was analyzed. Wholegrain flour ranked the highest in almost all elements, highlighting the P (494.80 mg/100 g), while the FM and the FC presented the opposite behavior, with the highest Se values (14.4 and 15.8 mg/100 g, respectively). FCv was situated in an intermediate position regarding P, K, Mg, Mn, Zn, Fe and Na content, standing closer to FWM, although it presents the highest values for Cu (1076.3 µg/100 g). The differences observed in flour were maintained in bread. Hence, the local cultivar ''Caaveiro'' has an interesting nutritional profile from the point of view of the element content.

RESEARCH QUESTION: What is the intra- and inter-centre reliability in embryo grading performed according to the Istanbul Consensus across several IVF clinics? DESIGN: Forty Day 3 embryos and 40 blastocysts were photographed on three focal planes. Senior and junior embryologists from 65 clinics were invited to grade them according to the Istanbul Consensus (Study Phase I). All participants then attended interactive training where a panel of experts graded the same embryos (Study Phase II). Finally, a second set of pictures was sent to both embryologists and experts for a blinded evaluation (Study Phase III). Intra-centre reliability was reported for Study Phase I as Cohen's kappa between senior and junior embryologists; inter-centre reliability was instead calculated between senior/junior embryologists and experts in Study Phase I versus III to outline improvements after training (i.e. upgrade of Cohen's kappa category according to Landis and Koch). RESULTS: Thirty-six embryologists from 18 centres participated (28% participation rate). The intra-centre reliability was (i) substantial (0.63) for blastomere symmetry (range -0.02 to 1.0), (ii) substantial (0.72) for fragmentation (range 0.29-1.0), (iii) substantial (0.66) for blastocyst expansion (range 0.19-1.0), (iv) moderate (0.59) for inner cell mass quality (range 0.07-0.92), (v) moderate (0.56) for trophectoderm quality (range 0.01-0.97). The inter-centre reliability showed an overall improvement from Study Phase I to III, from fair (0.21-0.4) to moderate (0.41-0.6) for all parameters under analysis, except for blastomere fragmentation among senior embryologists, which was already moderate before training. CONCLUSIONS: Intra-centre reliability was generally moderate/substantial, while inter-centre reliability was just fair. The interactive training improved it to moderate, hence this workflow was deemed helpful. The establishment of external quality assessment services (e.g. UK NEQAS) and the avant-garde of artificial intelligence might further improve the reliability of this key practice for embryo selection.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the value of the second trimester mean pulsatility index of the uterine arteries (MPI-UtA) to predict adverse perinatal outcome (APO) in women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and/or antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). METHODS: Pregnancies with either an SLE diagnosis or with primary APS controlled at our Hospital during a 10 years period were included. MPI-UtA was performed between 19-23 weeks' gestation. The MPI-UtA was defined as abnormal when it was >95th centile. APO was defined as the presence of: preeclampsia (PE), small for gestational age (SGA) newborn, preterm delivery, placental abruption and fetal or neonatal death. RESULTS: There were 39 ongoing pregnancies, 16 of them with SLE and 23 with primary APS. Nine patients had no previous pregnancy (23%). Globally, 35 live births were recorded, being the mean gestational age at delivery 38.1 ± 2.1 weeks and the mean birth weight 2835 ± 492 g. Abnormal MPI-UtA was found in 6 (15%) pregnancies, all of them (100%) had an APO: there were 4 fetal deaths and 2 further severe PE with live newborn. Normal MPI-UtA was shown in the remaining 33 (84.6%); of them, 6 (18%) had an APO: one late PE with a premature newborn, another one severe preterm baby and 4 SGA term newborns. No cases of perinatal death occurred in this group. Therefore, accuracy of MPI-UtA evaluation for APO was: sensitivity 50%, specificity 100%, PPV 100% and NPV 82%, respectively (p < .001). CONCLUSION: Abnormal second-trimester uterine artery Doppler evaluation is highly predictive for adverse perinatal outcome in pregnancies affected by SLE or APS.

OBJECTIVES: We sought to estimate the prevalence of oral health problems and receipt of preventive oral health (POH) services among children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) and investigate associations with child- and family-level characteristics. METHODS: We used pooled data from the 2016-2018 National Survey of Children's Health. The analytic sample was limited to children 1 to 17 years old, including 23 099 CYSHCN and 75 612 children without special health care needs (non-CYSHCN). Parent- and caregiver-reported measures of oral health problems were fair or poor teeth condition, decayed teeth and cavities, toothaches, and bleeding gums. POH services were preventive dental visits, cleanings, tooth brushing and oral health care instructions, fluoride, and sealants. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted. RESULTS: A higher proportion of CYSHCN than non-CYSHCN received a preventive dental visit in the past year (84% vs 78%, P < .0001). Similar patterns were found for the specific preventive services examined. However, CYSHCN had higher rates of oral health problems compared with non-CYSHCN. For example, decayed teeth and cavities were reported in 16% of CYSHCN versus 11% in non-CYSHCN (P < .0001). In adjusted analyses, several factors were significantly associated with decreased prevalence of receipt of POH services among CYSHCN, including younger or older age, lower household education, non-English language, lack of health insurance, lack of a medical home, and worse condition of teeth. CONCLUSIONS: CYSHCN have higher rates of POH service use yet worse oral health status than non-CYSHCN. Ensuring appropriate use of POH services among CYSHCN is critical to the reduction of oral health problems.

OBJECTIVE: To identify novel genetic mechanisms causing Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease. METHODS: We performed a next-generation sequencing study of 34 genes associated with CMT in a patient with peripheral neuropathy. RESULTS: We found a non-previously described mutation in EGR2 (p.P397H). P397H mutation is located within the loop that connects zinc fingers 2 and 3, a pivotal domain for the activity of this transcription factor. Using promoter activity luciferase assays, we found that this mutation promotes decreased transcriptional activity of EGR2. In this patient, we also found a previously described nonpathogenic polymorphism in lipopolysaccharide-induced TNF-α factor (LITAF) (p.T49M). We show that the p.T49M mutation decreases the steady-state levels of the LITAF protein in Schwann cells. Loss of function of LITAF has been shown to produce deregulation in the NRG1-erbB signaling, a pivotal pathway for EGR2 expression by Schwann cells. Surprisingly, our segregation study demonstrates that p.P397H mutation in EGR2 is not sufficient to produce CMT disease. Most notably, only those patients expressing simultaneously the LITAF T49M polymorphism develop peripheral neuropathy. CONCLUSIONS: Our data support that the LITAF loss-of-function interferes with the expression of the transcriptional-deficient EGR2 P397H mutant hampering Schwann cell differentiation and suggest that in vivo both genes act in tandem to allow the proper development of myelin.

Objective: To explore if obesity measured by body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m2 represents a limiting factor for para-aortic lymphadenectomy done with a transperitoneal laparoscopic approach. Materials and Methods: Retrospective observational study with 146 consecutive patients, diagnosed with a gynecological cancer submitted to para-aortic surgical staging between January 2010 and December 2018. The mean age was 52 years and the mean BMI was 27 kg/m2. 72.6% (106 patients) had BMI <30 kg/m2 and 27.4% (40 patients) had BMI ≥30 kg/m2. Half of the patients did not have prior abdominal surgeries. Results: The statistical analysis showed that there were no significant differences between two groups depending on their BMI in the lymph node count: BMI <30 kg/m2 14 nodes versus BMI ≥30 kg/m2 10 nodes (P = .122); rate of intraoperative complications: BMI <30: 6.3% versus BMI ≥30: 0% (P = .180), postoperative complications: BMI <30: 6.6% versus BMI ≥30: 5% (P = .723); feasibility rate: BMI <30: 97.1% versus BMI ≥30: 95.6% (P = .063) or the mean hospital stay BMI <30: 2.47 ± 2.05 days (standard deviation [SD]), BMI ≥30: 2.64 ± 0.93 days (SD) (P = .171). The only significant difference observed was due to the operating time: BMI <30: 103.1 ± 60.8 (SD) versus BMI ≥30: 146.9 ± 82.5 (SD) (P = .019), being longer in obese patients. Conclusions: Obesity, estimated by BMI, does not seem to represent a limiting factor for this surgical procedure in our series. We feel it is a feasible and justified approach in obese patients when other surgical procedures have to be carried out in the same surgical act. Probably, other factors and anthropometric measurements are more accurate to select patients in which this approach is feasible.

Una alimentación saludable es determinante para el buen estado de salud de las personas en cualquier etapa de su ciclo vital. Esta alimentación debe contener los nutrientes esenciales, además de ser variada, adecuada e inocua. El propósito de este artículo fue evaluar los conocimientos sobre alimentación saludable en estudiantes de una universidad pública. Estudio transversal en 136 estudiantes seleccionados por un muestreo aleatorio con afijación proporcional de las escuelas profesionales de Enfermería, Obstetricia, Contabilidad, Derecho, Ingeniería Agrónoma, Ingeniería de Industrias Alimentarias e Ingeniería Civil a los que se aplicó un cuestionario estructurado. En los resultados se observa que el mayor porcentaje (41,2%) tiene nivel medio de conocimientos sobre alimentación saludable y el (38.2%) nivel bajo. Según escuelas profesionales, la escuela de enfermería (66,7%) y obstetricia (26,7%) presentan un mayor nivel de conocimiento sobre alimentación saludable, seguido de los alumnos de Industrias alimentarias (14,3%), Ingeniería civil (13,5%), Derecho (12,5%), Contabilidad y finanzas (9,1%) y Agronomía (5,3%). La prueba de Chi cuadrado demuestra que el nivel de conocimiento tiene relación con su especialidad (p<0,001). Se concluye que los estudiantes del área de salud como enfermería y obstetricia tienen mayores conocimientos sobre alimentación saludable.


Healthy eating is important for good health at all life stages. A healthy diet must contain essential nutrients, be varied, adequate and safe. The purpose of this article was to evaluate knowledge about healthy eating among students of a public university in Peru. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 136 students selected via random sampling with proportional affixation of the professional schools of Nursing, Obstetrics, Accounting, Law, Agrocultural Engineering, Food Industry Engineering and Civil Engineering to which a structured questionnaire was applied. The results showed that 41.2% had a medium level of knowledge about healthy eating and 38.2% had a low level. According to professional schools, the nursing school (66.7%) and obstetrics (26.7%) had a higher level of knowledge about healthy eating, followed by students from Food Industries (14.3%), Civil Engineering (13.5%), Law (12.5%), Accounting and Finance (9.1%) and Agronomy (5.3%). The Chi-square test showed that the level of knowledge related to specialty (p<0.001). We conclude that students in the health area such as nursing and obstetrics have greater knowledge about healthy eating.

BACKGROUND: Research has identified significant gaps in preventive oral health care among certain subpopulations of US children. The authors of this study sought to estimate children's preventive oral health care use and oral health and investigate associations with child, family, and health care characteristics. METHODS: Data for this observational, cross-sectional study came from the 2016 National Survey of Children's Health. Children aged 2 through 17 years were included (n = 46,100). Caregiver-reported measures were preventive dental visits, prophylaxis, toothbrushing or oral health care instructions, fluoride, sealants, fair or poor condition of the teeth, and problems with carious teeth or caries. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted. RESULTS: As reported by parents or caregivers, 8 in 10 children had a preventive dental visit in the past year but lower rates of specific services: 75% prophylaxis, 46% fluoride, 44% instructions, and 21% sealants. In addition, 12% had carious teeth or caries and 6% had fair or poor condition of the teeth. In adjusted analyses, young children (aged 2-5 years), children with no health insurance, and those from lower-income and lower-educated households had decreased likelihood of a preventive dental visit as well as specific preventive services. Children with preventive health care visits and a personal physician or nurse had increased likelihood of receiving preventive oral health care. CONCLUSIONS: Preventive oral health services are lagging among young children and children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Further studies are needed to identify interventions that encourage use of specific preventive services. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Dentists should work with caregivers and primary care providers to promote preventive oral health care, especially among young children and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

AIM: To compare the diagnostic validity of NIA-AA criteria, for AD CSF biomarkers, with our own new criteria. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 2008 and 2011, 170 patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) were included. CSF levels of Aß1-42, T-tau, P-tau181, and ratios of T-tau/Aß1-42 and P-tau181/Aß1-42 were analyzed. In our criteria, we considered 3 or more abnormal variables indicative of a high likelihood of MCI due to AD. RESULTS: After a clinical follow-up of 4.5 ± 1.2 years, 44 patients remained stable, 95 developed AD, 15 other forms of dementia, 7 died and 9 received other diagnoses. Using the NIA-AA criteria and our own criteria, the diagnostic validity of the CSF biomarkers was 58% versus 85%, specificity 84% versus 72%, PPV 82% versus 79% and NPV 61% versus 79%. CONCLUSION: The inclusion of the ratios in diagnostic criteria increases sensitivity and NPV for the diagnosis of MCI due to AD.

BACKGROUND: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are the most frequent agents involved in hypersensitivity drug reactions, with NSAID-induced urticaria and/or angioedema (NIUA) being the most common entity. Mast cells are key players in NIUA and are activated by thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP). This cytokine functions through recognition by its receptor, composed of IL7Rα (interleukin-7 receptor alpha) and TSLPR (TSLP receptor). These genes have been previously associated with other inflammatory diseases. METHODS: We assessed the genetic association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TSLP, IL7R and TSLPR and NIUA in Spanish individuals, using genotyped and imputed data. A total of 369 unrelated NIUA patients and 580 NSAID-tolerant control subjects were included, and 6 SNPs in TSLP, 6 in IL7R and 3 in TSLPR were genotyped. Further variants were imputed using Mach and the 1,000 Genomes Project (Phase 3) data. Association testing and statistical analyses were performed with Mach2dat and R. RESULTS: A total of 139 SNPs were tested for association following quality control. Two SNPs in TSLP (rs1816678 and rs764917) showed a nominal association (p = 0.033 and 0.024, respectively) with NIUA, although these results were not statistically significant after correcting for multiple comparisons. CONCLUSIONS: Although TSLP, IL7R and TSLPR are important genes involved in the development of the inflammatory response, we found no significant genetic association with NIUA in our population for common SNPs in these genes.

INTRODUCTION: In 2005, the National Cancer Institute funded the Community Networks Program (CNP), which aimed to reduce cancer health disparities in minority racial/ethnic and underserved groups through community-based participatory research, education, and training. The purpose of this study was to describe the CNP model and their tobacco-related work in community-based research, education, and training using a tobacco disparities research framework. METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive review of the CNP tobacco-related activities including publications, published abstracts, research activities, trainee pilot studies, policy-related activities, educational outreach, and reports produced from 2005-2009. Two authors categorized the tobacco-related activities and publications within the framework. RESULTS: Although there was no mandate to address tobacco, the CNPs produced 103 tobacco-related peer-reviewed publications, which reflects the largest proportion (12%) of all CNP cancer-related publications. Selected publications and research activities were most numerous under the framework areas "Psychosocial Research," "Surveillance," "Epidemiology," and "Treatment of Nicotine Addiction." Thirteen CNPs participated in tobacco control policymaking in mainstream efforts that affected their local community and populations, and 24 CNPs conducted 1147 tobacco-related educational outreach activities. CNP activities that aimed to build research and infrastructure capacity included nine tobacco-related pilot projects representing 16% of all CNP cancer-related pilot projects, and 17 publications acknowledging leveraged partnerships with other organizations, a strategy encouraged by the CNP. CONCLUSIONS: The CNP is a promising academic-community model for working to eliminate tobacco-related health disparities. Future efforts may address scientific gaps, consider collaboration across groups, assess the extent of operationalizing community-based participatory research, and improve common tracking measures.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are the most frequent drugs involved in hypersensitivity drugs reactions. Both immunological and nonimmunological mechanisms can be involved. We describe the different phenotypes as well as analyze the genetic basis for NSAIDs hypersensitivity. RECENT FINDINGS: Five major clinical entities are currently accepted in the classification of hypersensitivity reactions to NSAIDs. Three are mediated by nonspecific immunological mechanisms: NSAIDs-exacerbated respiratory disease, NSAIDs-exacerbated cutaneous disease and NSAIDs-induced urticaria/angioedema. Two are mediated by specific immunological mechanisms: single-NSAID-induced urticaria/angioedema or anaphylaxis and single-NSAID-induced delayed hypersensitivity reactions. The classification becomes more complex if we consider that in an important number of cases skin and airway involvement can occur, as well as the participation of other organs. SUMMARY: Hypersensitivity reactions to NSAIDs are more complex than for other drugs like betalactams in terms of the number and types of reactions elicited, and mechanisms involved. As NSAIDs are the most frequent cause of drug hypersensitivity, it is feasible to gather a sufficient number of cases for undertaking pharmacogenetic studies.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease (AD) are currently being assessed with two different assays. Our objective was to study if there is a correlation between values obtained by both techniques, to compare their validity and search for conversion factor between values obtained for every protein. We compared the performances of two commonly used platforms, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and a multiplex (xMAP) technology for measurement of CSF Aß 1-42, total tau (T-tau), and phosphorylated tau 181 (P-tau 181p) proteins, in 30 AD patients and 28 control subjects. The relations between the variables of both techniques were evaluated using the Spearman p correlation coefficient (α = 0.05). Receiver operating characteristic and area under the curve (AUC) analyses were calculated for the variables of both techniques. The two assays platforms yielded different absolute values for the various analytes, always higher in ELISA. We found some correction factor between values: 2,1- to 3-fold for Aß 1-42; 4,1- to 4,6-fold for T-tau; and 1,4- to 1,6-fold for P-tau 181p. In addition, those values were highly correlated (Aß 1-42: r = 0.70, P < 0.01; T-tau: r = 0.90, P < 0.01; P-tau 181p: r = 0.85, P < 0.01) and the AUC for the variables showed very similar values. In conclusion, the results obtained with ELISA and xMAP platforms were highly correlated and its validity is very similar. Differences in absolute values point to the need for a clear description of the technique used. Moreover, we found some conversion factor between values of every protein that may be useful for transformation between both techniques.

AIM: : The aim of this study is to check the ability of cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers of Alzheimer disease (CSF-BMK-AD) to make a discrimination checklist within a healthy group, according to their cognitive development at 2 years of obtaining the sample. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 2008 and 2010, 67 subjects without cognitive or behavioral disorders were included as a control group in a study on CSF-AD-BMK. Neuropsychological assessment at baseline and at follow-up had been carried out 2 years later. CSF was obtained at the inclusion. It was analyzed by Innotest reagents to measure amyloid-ß (Aß1-42), total-τ (T-τ), and phosphorylated τ181 (P-τ181p) protein levels, as well as T-τ/Aß1-42 and P-τ181p/Aß1-42 ratios. RESULTS: Two years after inclusion, 28 subjects were not able to be checked for cognitive evolution. Of those who were seen for follow-up (n=39), 29 were cognitively stable and 10 showed cognitive impairment. We found significant differences in Aß1-42 protein level (820 vs. 1359 pg/mL, P<0.003), in the T-τ/Aß1-42 ratio (0.40 vs. 0.19, P<0.009), and in the P-τ181p/Aß1-42 ratio (0.09 vs. 0.04, P<0.003) when both groups were compared. CONCLUSIONS: CSF-BMK-AD are able to discriminate between subjects in a group initially asymptomatic depending on their cognitive evolution at the 2 years' follow-up. These results are consistent with the decrease of CSF Aß1-42 protein levels as the first finding in preclinical AD showed.
