The article aims to study the dynamics of scientific productions in Epidemiology in Nutrition in Brazil, using bibliometrics. Data collection was carried out in the Scopus database, building search strategies based on descriptors standardized by DeCS and MeSH related to nutrition, Nutritional Epidemiology, public health and nutrition in public health. Based on eligibility criteria, 671 articles were selected. Data were analyzed by presenting bibliometric indicators, the time evolution of article publication, journals with the highest number of productions on the topic, authors with the highest number of records, articles with the greatest impact and the most frequent keywords. The documents were published between 1973 and 2020 in 193 sources by 5013 researchers. The progressive growth of productions over that time was evidenced, especially in the last decade. The most relevant affiliations corresponded to educational institutions in the Southeast and South regions. There was a predominance of publications on child nutrition and maternal and child nutrition, followed by other topics such as obesity, nutritional surveillance, social determinants and chronic diseases. Likewise, the study presented topics that were less explored, such as the nutrition of the elderly and the nutrition of vulnerable population groups such as quilombolas and indigenous people(AU)

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many changes in the nutritional care process as a result of the social distancing measures imposed, especially in the assessment of nutritional status, in which obtaining anthropometric measures is necessary. METHODS: Critical review of the international anthropometry literature, in the light of the recent scientific evidence of COVID-19. RESULTS: This paper presents recommendations for anthropometric assessment of the nutritional status of people in ambulatory settings for both remote and in-person assessment. The most appropriate measures to the current pandemic scenario are also discussed, in order to contribute to the monitoring of nutritional status and to minimize health impacts.results CONCLUSION: When sanitary conditions cannot be guaranteed during in-person encounters or when the person cannot attend the office of the professional, the remote anthropometric assessment can be a useful strategy to nutritional surveillance.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Monitoring gestational weight gain (GWG) is relevant for perinatal outcomes, especially in the context of increasing obesity and overweight in the female population. This study analyses the association between GWG in Brazilian women, according to different body mass index (BMI) categories, and different outcomes, including hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), gestational diabetes (GD) and caesarean section. METHODS: Data on women from all the major regions of Brazil with a single pregnancy of a gestational age of 28 weeks or more and information available for anthropometric evaluation were included in the Birth in Brazil survey. Adequacy of GWG was assessed according to the percentile distribution of GWG of women with favourable neonatal outcomes, with the median of the distribution referred to as 100% adequacy in the GWG evaluation. RESULTS: The study consisted of 18,953 women, 58.3% of whom were normal weight and 35.1% were overweight. The adequacy of GWG was better amongst the normal weight women (91.1%) and worse amongst those with class III obesity (46.0% with excessive GWG), with the latter showing the highest occurrence of adverse outcomes. Results of the multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that weight gain above 200% of the median in the normal weight, overweight and obese women was positively associated with HDP and caesarean section, but not with GD. CONCLUSIONS: The proposed ranges of appropriate GWG associated with favourable neonatal outcomes based on the data from the Birth in Brazil survey proved good predictors of HDP and caesarean section amongst the women included in the study.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The nutritional care for teenage mothers had been studied as a factor that influences the course of pregnancy and neonatal outcomes, especially in birth weight. OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the effect of a prenatal intervention nutrition program, with early start of the nutritional care and individualized attendance on teenage mother newborns' weight. METHODS: Not randomized study of intervention performed with 746 teenage mothers (14 to 19 years old), subdivided in historic control group (GI; n= 542) and intervention group (GII; n= 204). The dependent variable was the low birth weight (LBW). The independent variables assessed were: sociodemographic (mother age, skin color, instruction level and sanitation conditions), anthropometric (mother's height, pre-gestational nutritional study and adequacy of gestational weight gain), obstetric (gestational age in first prenatal consultation, number of pregnancies, childbirths and abortions, interdelivery and inter-gestational intervals), prenatal attendance (number of prenatal and nutritional attendance consultations) and conditions of the newborn (birth weight and duration of the pregnancy). Data were analyzed by Poisson regression with robust variance. RESULTS: The average of maternal age at delivery was 17,5 years old (standard deviation 1,59). The percentage of LBW considerably reduced from 11,3% in GI to 2,9% in GII (p < 0,001). We observed in the multivariate model that the teenage mothers who have not received the intervention presented 3,5 more prevalence (GI, RP adjusted 3,5; IC95% 1,49-8,44) to give birth to a low weight newborn. CONCLUSION: The participation of the teenage mother in the prenatal nutrition care program proposed here contributed to the reduction of the low weight of newborns.
