BACKGROUND: In the FIGHT study (NCT03694522) bemarituzumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody selective for fibroblast growth factor receptor 2b (FGFR2b), plus mFOLFOX6 showed clinically meaningful efficacy in patients with FGFR2b-positive (2+/3+ membranous staining by immunohistochemistry) locally advanced unresectable/metastatic gastric/gastroesophageal cancer (G/GEJC). A meaningful proportion of patients in FIGHT were enrolled in East Asia, reflecting global epidemiology of G/GEJC. METHODS: This subgroup analysis of the global, phase 2, double-blind FIGHT study included all patients enrolled in East Asian sites. Patients were randomized 1:1 to bemarituzumab-mFOLFOX6 (15 mg/kg and one 7.5 mg/kg dose on cycle 1, day 8) or matching placebo-mFOLFOX6. The primary endpoint was investigator-assessed progression-free survival (PFS). Secondary endpoints included overall survival (OS), objective response rate, and safety. Efficacy was evaluated after a minimum follow-up of 24 months. RESULTS: The East Asian subgroup comprised 89 patients (57% of overall study population); 45 were randomized to bemarituzumab-mFOLFOX6 and 44 to placebo-mFOLFOX6. Median PFS (95% confidence interval [CI]) was 12.9 months (8.8-17.9) with bemarituzumab-mFOLFOX6 and 8.2 months (5.6-10.3) with placebo-mFOLFOX6 (HR 0.50, 95% CI 0.29-0.87); median OS (95% CI) was 24.7 months (13.8-33.1) vs 12.9 months (9.3-21.4), respectively (HR 0.56, 95% CI 0.32-0.96). Treatment benefit was more pronounced in patients with FGFR2b-positive G/GEJC in ≥ 10% of tumor cells. No new safety signals were reported. CONCLUSION: In East Asian patients with FGFR2b-positive advanced/metastatic G/GEJC enrolled in the global FIGHT study, bemarituzumab-mFOLFOX6 showed clinically meaningful outcomes over placebo-mFOLFOX6.

Introduction: Alongside the improved survival of nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC), late radiation toxicities are alarmingly hampering survivors' quality of life. A patient-reported symptom burden survey is lacking to address the unmet need for symptom management among local NPC survivors. Methods: A single-center cross-sectional survey was conducted on 211 NPC survivors who had completed radiation therapy for three to 120 months. We employed the Chinese version M. D. Anderson Symptom Inventory - Head & Neck Module (MDASI-HN-C), Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy - Head & Neck (FACT-HN-C), and a question extracted from the Cancer Survivors' Unmet Needs Measure (CaSUN). Results: Two hundred valid responses were collected. Participants suffered from at least four moderate to severe symptoms (mean = 4.84, SD = 4.99). The top five severe symptoms were dry mouth, mucus problems, difficulty swallowing or chewing, teeth or gum problems, and memory problems. MDASI-HN-C subscales were negatively correlated with the physical, emotional, functional, and HN-specific domains of the FACT-HN-C. The unmet need for symptom management was positively associated with symptom burden, either general symptoms (Adjusted odds ratio [ORadj] = 1.566, 95% CI = 1.282 - 1.914, p < 0.001) or top-5 symptoms (ORadj = 1.379, 95% CI = 1.185 - 1.604, p < 0.001), while negatively associated with post-RT time (ORadj = 0.981, 95% CI [0.972, 0.991], p < 0.001). Conclusion: Virtually all NPC survivors suffer from late toxicities, which interplay with survivors' perceptions intricately to affect their unmet needs for symptom management. Personalized supportive care strategies with regular assessments and stratifications are warranted.

We aimed to determine if cheese could reduce glucose intolerance in aged rats with overt type 2 diabetes (T2D). Male Sprague-Dawley rats treated with high-fat diet (HFD) and streptozotocin (STZ) to elicit T2D were hyperglycemic. One week after STZ injection, low-fat (LOW) or regular-fat (REG) cheese was provided for 5 weeks and compared with T2D and low-fat diet reference (REF) groups. Food intake and weight gain were similar in all groups. Oral glucose tolerance tests revealed glucose intolerance in T2D rats that was partially ameliorated by LOW but not REG. Insulin secretion during the oral glucose tolerance test was impaired in T2D and REG at 10 min (p < 0.05) but the iAUC was highly variable in all groups and statistical differences were not detected (p > 0.05). ß-cell mass and pancreatic insulin content in T2D and REG were 50% lower than REF (p < 0.05), whereas LOW was not significantly different. Although isolated islets from all groups responded to glucose, the absolute amount of insulin secreted by T2D and REG was markedly reduced compared with REF, while LOW islets had relatively normal secretion. In conclusion, LOW but not REG cheese enhanced ß-cell recovery from HFD/STZ treatment that led to amelioration of glucose tolerance within 5 weeks.

Objective Clinician's experiences of providing care are identified as a key outcome associated with value-based healthcare (VBHC). In contrast to patient-reported experience measures, measurement tools to capture clinician's experiences in relation to VBHC initiatives have received limited attention to date. Progressing from an initial 18-item clinician experience measure (CEM), we sought to develop and evaluate the reliability of a set of 10 core clinician experience measure items in the CEM-10. Methods A multi-method project was conducted using a consensus workshop with clinicians from a range of NSW Health local health districts to reduce the 18-item CEM to a short form 10-item core clinician experience measure (CEM-10). The CEM-10 was deployed with clinicians providing diabetes care, care for older adults and virtual care across all districts and care settings of New South Wales, Australia. Psychometric analysis was used to determine the internal consistency of the tool and its suitability for diverse clinical contexts. Results Consensus building sessions led to a rationalised 10-item tool, retaining the four domains of psychological safety (two items), quality of care (three items), clinician engagement (three items) and interprofessional collaboration (two items). Data from four clinician cohorts (n = 1029) demonstrated that the CEM-10 four-factor model produced a good fit to the data and high levels of reliability, with factor loadings ranging from 0.77 to 0.92, with Cronbach's alpha (range: 0.79-0.90) and composite reliability (range: 0.80-0.92). Conclusions The CEM-10 provides a core set of common clinician experience measurement items that can be used to compare clinician's experiences of providing care between and within cohorts. The CEM-10 may be supported by additional items relevant to particular initiatives when evaluating VBHC outcomes.

ISG15 is a type I interferon-induced ubiquitin-like modifier that functions in innate immune responses. The major human ISG15 ligase is hHERC5, a ribosome-associated HECT E3 that broadly ISGylates proteins cotranslationally. Here, we characterized the hHERC5-dependent ISGylome and identified over 2,000 modified lysines in over 1,100 proteins in IFN-ß-stimulated cells. In parallel, we compared the substrate selectivity hHERC5 to the major mouse ISG15 ligase, mHERC6, and analysis of sequences surrounding ISGylation sites revealed that hHERC5 and mHERC6 have distinct preferences for amino acid sequence context. Several features of the datasets were consistent with ISGylation of ribosome-tethered nascent chains, and mHERC6, like hHERC5, cotranslationally modified nascent polypeptides. The ISGylome datasets presented here represent the largest numbers of protein targets and modification sites attributable to a single Ub/Ubl ligase and the lysine selectivities of the hHERC5 and mHERC6 enzymes may have implications for the activities of HECT domain ligases, generally.

The objectives of this feasibility study were to measure the prevalence of nutrition risk in community-dwelling older adults (CDOA, ages ≥ 65 years) and explore the perspectives of CDOA of the acceptability, value, and effectiveness of nutrition risk screening in primary care and community settings. Using the Seniors in the Community: Risk Evaluation for Eating and Nutrition (SCREEN)© eight-item tool (n = 276), results indicated that moderate and high nutrition risks affected 50 per cent and 8 per cent, respectively, of those screened. Interviewees (n = 16) agreed that screening is acceptable, important, and valuable (Theme One). Effectiveness was unclear, as only 3 of 16 respondents recalled being told their nutrition risk status. When articulating nutrition-related issues, a food security theme, expressed in the third person, was prominent (Theme Two). Screening for nutrition risk and receiving nutrition information in community-based settings are acceptable to CDOA and medically necessary, as evidenced by the high proportion of CDOA at moderate-high nutrition risk.

This feasibility study of routine nutrition risk screening in community-dwelling older adults using a partnership between health care and community-based organizations (CBO) aimed to (1) evaluate the ability of community-based partnerships to provide screening for nutrition risk, and appropriately refer at-risk individuals for follow-up care and (2) determine the barriers to and facilitators of screening. Adults 65 years of age and older were screened by staff in two primary care and one CBO setting using the Seniors in the Community: Risk Evaluation for Eating and Nutrition (SCREEN)-8 nutrition risk screening tool. Screeners, organization administrators, and registered dietitians responded to surveys regarding SCREEN-8 administration, referral processes, and partnership interactions. All found the SCREEN-8 initiative feasible, acceptable, and appropriate. Sustainability requires strengthening of community resources, referral processes, and telephone assessments. The partnership added value despite limitations in communications. We conclude that broader implementation of this program using community-based partnerships has the potential to aid in the prevention of malnutrition in older adults.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the sensitivities and specificities of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA in the detection of locally recurrent or persistent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) through nasopharyngeal (NP) brush biopsy and plasma, respectively, and whether a combination of both would be superior to the individual tests. STUDY DESIGN: A case-control study was conducted from September 2016 to June 2022. SETTING: A multicentre study at 3 tertiary referral centers in Hong Kong was conducted by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. METHODS: Twenty-seven patients with biopsy-confirmed locally recurrent NPC were recruited as study subjects. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed to rule out regional recurrence. The control group consisted of 58 patients with a prior history of NPC who were now disease-free based on endoscopic and imaging findings. Patients underwent both the transoral NP brush (NP Screen®) and blood for plasma Epstein-Barr DNA levels. RESULTS: The sensitivity and specificity of the combined modalities were 84.62% and 85.19%, respectively. The positive predictive value was 73.33% and the negative predictive value was 92.0%. CONCLUSION: The combination of NP brush biopsy and plasma EBV DNA is potentially an additional surveillance modality in detecting the local recurrence of NPC. Further study with a larger sample size would be required to validate the cutoff values.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: It is unclear whether regular consumption of dairy products is associated with the risk of developing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Thus, we conducted a systematic review followed by a meta-analysis of studies reporting on the association of dairy consumption with NAFLD risk. METHODS AND RESULTS: We comprehensively searched PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus for observational studies that evaluated the association between dairy intake and NAFLD likelihood that were published before September 1, 2022. The reported odds ratios (ORs) of fully adjusted models and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were pooled using a random-effects model for the meta-analysis. Out of 1206 articles retrieved, 11 observational studies, including 43,649 participants and 11,020 cases, were included. Pooled OR indicated a significant association between dairy intake and NAFLD (OR = 0.90; 95% CI: 0.83, 0.98; I2 = 67.8%, n = 11). Pooled ORs revealed that milk (OR: 0.86; 95% CI: 0.78, 0.95; I2 = 65.7%, n = 6), yogurt (OR: 0.88; 95% CI: 0.82; I2 = 0.0%, n = 4), and high-fat dairy (OR: 0.38; 95% CI: 0.19, 0.75; I2 = 0.0%, n = 5) consumption was inversely associated with NAFLD while cheese was not linked to NAFLD risk. CONCLUSION: We observed that consumption of dairy products is linked to a reduced risk of developing NAFLD. Overall, the data in the source articles is of low to moderate quality; therefore, further observational studies are required to support the current findings (PROSPERO Reg. number: CRD42022319028).

Coffee berry borer (CBB) is considered the most damaging insect pest of coffee worldwide. CBB was first detected on Hawai'i Island in 2010, and quickly spread throughout the state's coffee-growing regions. With the introduction of this pest, Hawaii's small yet economically important coffee industry was changed forever with growers facing significantly higher production and labor costs, as well as decreased yield and coffee quality. We assessed the economic benefits of managing CBB based on three strategies that emerged in Hawaii over the last decade: (1) the use of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana alone, (2) early integrated pest management (IPM), which combined monitoring and sanitation with spraying B. bassiana, and (3) research-based IPM, which focused on CBB biology in Hawaii, optimization of monitoring, B. bassiana applications, and cultural controls. From 2011 to 2021, the economic benefits from managing CBB were USD 52 million using B. bassiana alone, USD 69 million from early IPM, and USD 130 million from research-based IPM, for a total of USD 251 million from all management. Our findings suggest that all types of management provide economic benefits to Hawaii growers, but management strategies based on Hawaii-specific research have provided the greatest gains in coffee yield, price, and revenue.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the hepatic manifestation of the metabolic syndrome, is a global health problem. Currently, no pharmacological treatment is approved for NAFLD. Natural health products, including bioactive peptides, are potential candidates to aid in the management of metabolic syndrome-related conditions, including insulin resistance and obesity. In this study, we hypothesized that an egg-white-derived bioactive peptide QAMPFRVTEQE (Peptide 2) would improve systemic and local white adipose tissue insulin sensitivity, thereby preventing high-fat diet-induced exacerbation of pathological features associated with NAFLD, such as lipid droplet size and number, inflammation, and hepatocyte hypertrophy in high-fat diet-fed mice. Similar to rosiglitazone, Peptide 2 supplementation improved systemic insulin resistance during the hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp and enhanced insulin signalling in white adipose tissue, modulating ex vivo lipolysis. In the liver, compared with high-fat diet fed animals, Peptide 2 supplemented animals presented decreased hepatic cholesterol accumulation (p < 0.05) and area of individual hepatic lipid droplet by around 50% (p = 0.09) and reduced hepatic inflammatory infiltration (p < 0.05) whereas rosiglitazone exacerbated steatosis. In conclusion, Peptide 2 supplementation improved insulin sensitivity and decreased hepatic steatosis, unlike the insulin-sensitizing drug rosiglitazone.

PURPOSE: South Asians face a high burden of type 2 diabetes (T2D). We systematically summarized current research on the efficacy, cultural relevance, and research gaps of nutrition interventions that could be used for treatment in this population. FINDINGS: We identified 18 articles published since 2010. Dietary pattern interventions have focused on low-glycemic index (GI) solutions and consistently reported improvement in glycemic management. Trials of nutrition education and counselling had diverse approaches, with those utilizing more intensive interventions generally eliciting better glycemic outcomes. Many studies developed interventions with cultural relevance by including traditional foods, providing materials in the local language, and acknowledging important food-related customs. These adaptations were seen in South Asian countries as well as Western countries hosting immigrants. Data from South Asian countries support low-GI and intensive counselling approaches for the treatment of T2D. Given the high prevalence of T2D in these populous countries, approaches that can reach large numbers of people are needed. In Western countries, more emphasis on providing culturally relevant nutrition therapy is needed.

Dairy consumption is inversely related to the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in epidemiological research. One proposed hypothesis is that phospholipid (PL) species associated with dairy consumption mediate this relationship. This scoping review aimed to identify the existing literature in animal and human trials investigating the impact of dairy products, including milk, yogurt, and cheese as well as dairy-derived PL supplementation on PL and its species in the circulation, summarizing the characteristics of these studies and identifying research gaps. A systematic search was conducted across 3 databases (PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science) in March 2021. Of 2,427 identified references, 15 studies (7 humans and 8 animal studies) met the eligibility criteria and were included in the final narrative synthesis. The evidence base was heterogeneous, involving a variety of clinical and preclinical studies, metabolically healthy or obese/diabetic participants or animal models, and displayed mixed findings. Circulating postprandial concentrations of total PL were elevated acutely but unchanged after longer intervention with dairy products. The PL concentration remained stable even after a high dosage of milk supplemented with dairy-derived PL, which may be related to increased fecal excretion; however, certain phosphatidylcholine (PC) or lysophosphatidylcholine species were increased in circulation by interventions. These include several PC species with 32 to 38 total carbons in addition to the dairy biomarkers C15:0 and C17:0. The results of this scoping review demonstrate a small body of literature indicating that dairy products can influence blood concentrations of PC and lysophosphatidylcholine species in both rodents and humans without alteration of total PL and PC. There is a lack of well-designed trials in humans and animals that explore the potential differences between individual dairy foods on PL species. In addition, trials to understand the bioactive properties of PC and lysophosphatidylcholine species on cardiometabolic risk are needed.

BACKGROUND: Clinicians' experiences of providing care constitute an important outcome for evaluating care from a value-based healthcare perspective. Yet no currently available instruments have been designed and validated for assessing clinicians' experiences. This research sought to address this important gap by developing and validating a novel instrument in a public health system in Australia. METHODS: A multi-method project was conducted using co-design with 12 clinician leaders from a range of NSW Health Local Health Districts to develop the Clinician Experience Measure (CEM). Validity and reliability analyses were conducted in two stages, first assessing face and content validity with a pool of 25 clinicians and then using psychometric analysis with data from 433 clinicians, including nurses, doctors and allied health and representing all districts within one jurisdiction in Australia. RESULTS: Data gathered from 25 clinicians via the face and content validity process indicated that the initial 31-items were relevant to the range of staff employed in the NSW state health system, with minor edits made to the survey layout and wording within two items. Psychometric analysis led to a rationalised 18-item final instrument, comprising four domains: psychological safety (4-items); quality of care (5-items); clinician engagement (4-items) and interprofessional collaboration (5-items). The 18-item four-factor model produced a good fit to the data and high levels of reliability, with factor loadings ranging from .62 to .94, with Cronbach's alpha (range: .83 to .96) and composite reliability (range: .85 to .97). CONCLUSIONS: The CEM is an instrument to capture clinicians' experiences of providing care across a health system. The CEM provides a useful tool for healthcare leaders and policy makers to benchmark and assess the impact of value-based care initiatives and direct change efforts.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: We aimed to extract dairy consumption patterns of men and women from a population-based cohort and then assess the association of each consumption pattern with incident T2D risk. METHODS AND RESULTS: This prospective study was conducted within the framework of Alberta's Tomorrow Project (ATP), in which 8615 men and 15,016 women provided information on dietary intake by completing a food-frequency questionnaire at baseline, and then were followed up over time to determine the incidence of T2D via questionnaires. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used to extract dairy consumption patterns (DCPs). The association between each extracted pattern and T2D incidence was estimated using multivariable logistic regression models.The incidence of T2D among men and women was 3.8 and 3.2%, respectively, and the mean duration of follow-up was 5.2 years. Three major DCPs were identified. After controlling for potential confounders, the OR for risk of T2D in men in the highest compared with those in the lowest quartile of the DCP3 (whole milk, regular cheese, and non-fat milk as a beverage and in cereal) was 0.64 (95%CI: 0.47 to 0.88, P-trend=0.001), whereas it was not significant for women. DCP1 and DCP2 were not associated with incident T2D in men or women. CONCLUSION: Adherence to a DCP characterized by higher consumption of whole milk, regular cheese, and non-fat milk was associated with decreased risk of incident T2D only in men. Our results support current evidence that a combination of different dairy products, regardless of their fat content, might be favorable for health maintenance, at least in men.

RESUMO

Occlusion of the T-tube (tympanostomy tube) is a common postoperative sequela related to bacterial biofilms. Confronting biofilm-related infections of T-tubes, maneuverable and effective treatments are still challenging presently. Here, we propose an endoscopy-assisted treatment procedure based on the wobbling Fe2O3 helical micromachine (HMM) with peroxidase-mimicking activity. Different from the ideal corkscrew motion, the Fe2O3 HMM applies a wobbling motion in the tube, inducing stronger mechanical force and fluid convections, which not only damages the biofilm occlusion into debris quickly but also enhances the catalytic generation and diffusion of reactive oxygen species (ROS) for killing bacteria cells. Moreover, the treatment procedure, which integrated the delivery, actuation, and retrieval of Fe2O3 HMM, was validated in the T-tube implanted in a human cadaver ex vivo. It enables the visual operation with ease and is gentle to the tympanic membrane and ossicles, which is promising in the clinical application.

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate the association of miR-143 and miR-34a expression in human visceral (VAT) and subcutaneous (SAT) adipose tissues with insulin resistance (IR). METHODS: VAT and SAT were obtained from 176 participants without diabetes. miR-143 and miR-34a expressions in VAT and SAT were measured using qRT-PCR. Fasting serum insulin and glucose concentration, homeostatic model assessment of IR index (HOMA-IR) and ß-cell function (HOMA-B), and quantitative insulin-sensitivity check index (QUICKI) were calculated. RESULTS: After adjustment for age, sex and body mass index (BMI), VAT miR-143 expression was positively associated with fasting plasma glucose (FPG), insulin, and HOMA-IR, and negatively associated with HOMA-B and QUICKI. miR-34a expression in VAT was directly associated with FPG, insulin, and HOMA-IR and negatively associated with QUICKI. In SAT, miR-34a expression was positively associated with insulin and negatively associated with QUICKI. The interaction terms of HOMA-IR and BMI categories were significant for both miR gene expressions in VAT. After stratifying participants based on BMI, the association of miR-143 and miR-34a expressions in VAT with IR indices remained significant only in obese patients. CONCLUSION: miR-143 and miR-34a expressions in VAT were independent predictors of IR in people without diabetes, and that this association was conditional on the degree of obesity. OBJECTIVES: Although culturally tailored diabetes treatment is recommended, there is a lack of relevant dietary resources for the Chinese population in Canada. In this study we assessed the feasibility and efficacy of a culturally tailored menu plan combined with nutrition education on clinical outcomes, diet quality and qualitative outcomes among Chinese immigrants with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: Participants were 17 Chinese immigrants living with type 2 diabetes in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The design was a 12-week, single-arm intervention that included weekly nutrition education supported by a culturally tailored menu plan with mixed methods evaluation. Diet quality, clinical and other outcomes were assessed pre- and postintervention. One-on-one interviews were conducted postintervention to identify program feasibility and obstacles to adherence. RESULTS: Waist circumference (mean ± standard deviation: -2.0±2.5 cm; p=0.004), total cholesterol (-21.4±28.2 mg/dL; p=0.007) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (-18.4±24.6 mg/dL; p=0.007) were decreased when compared with baseline. No significant change was detected in glycated hemoglobin. Postintervention, the Healthy Eating Index (p=0.01) and diabetes knowledge score (p=0.009) also increased. Participants reported that the program was culturally acceptable, easily understood and feasible to implement. Participants indicated the program helped them to improve their diabetes knowledge, adhere to the dietary guidelines, choose low glycemic index food and read food labels when shopping. CONCLUSIONS: A flexible, culturally tailored menu plan was a feasible and effective tool for improving diabetes knowledge, diet quality and metabolic outcomes among Chinese immigrants with type 2 diabetes.

IRW (Isoleucine−Arginine−Tryptophan), has antihypertensive and anti-inflammatory properties in cells and animal models and prevents angiotensin-II- and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α-induced insulin resistance (IR) in vitro. We investigated the effects of IRW on body composition, glucose homeostasis and insulin sensitivity in a high-fat diet (HFD) induced insulin resistant (IR) model. C57BL/6 mice were fed HFD for 6 weeks, after which IRW was incorporated into the diet (45 or 15 mg/kg body weight (BW)) until week 14. IRW45 (at a dose of 45 mg/kg BW) reduced BW (p = 0.0327), fat mass gain (p = 0.0085), and preserved lean mass of HFD mice (p = 0.0065), concomitant with enhanced glucose tolerance and reduced fasting glucose (p < 0.001). In skeletal muscle, IRW45 increased insulin-stimulated protein kinase B (AKT) phosphorylation (p = 0.0132) and glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) translocation (p < 0.001). Angiotensin 2 receptor (AT2R) (p = 0.0024), phosphorylated 5'-AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPKα) (p < 0.0124) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) (p < 0.001) were enhanced in skeletal muscle of IRW45-treated mice, as was the expression of genes involved in myogenesis. Plasma angiotensin converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) activity was increased (p = 0.0016). Uncoupling protein-1 in white adipose tissue (WAT) was partially restored after IRW supplementation. IRW improves glucose tolerance and body composition in HFD-fed mice and promotes glucose uptake in skeletal muscle via multiple signaling pathways, independent of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition.
