RESUMO

Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) is an effective strategy for high-value utilization of tea residue (TR), and it was noticed the aqueous phase (AP) has not been extensively studied. This study aimed to investigate the chemical components and characteristics of the AP, and applied it in active food packaging films. The results showed that the total phenolic content of AP was 1.86 mg GAE/mL, and the main compounds in AP were organic acids, alcohols, and amino acids. The AP showed excellent antibacterial activity and antioxidant capacity. The active films were prepared using the casting method. The 4:7-AP/PVA film showed outstanding mechanical properties (tensile strength = 34.18 MPa, elongation at break = 458.67%), antioxidant ability (DPPH scavenging capacity 92.01%), antibacterial activity, water resistance and biocompatibility. The banana preservation test showed the AP/PVA films could successfully prolong the shelf-life of bananas and have the potential to be food packaging films.

RESUMO

Accidental bleeding is an unavoidable problem in daily life. To avoid the risk of excessive blood loss, it is urgent to design a functional material that can quickly stop bleeding. In this study, an efficient wound dressing for hemostasis was investigated. Based on the characteristics that Ca2+ and fish skin collagen (FSC) could activate the coagulation mechanism, hemostatic cotton was prepared by solvent replacement method using CaCl2, FSC, soluble starch (SS), and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as raw materials. The cytotoxicity test showed the Ca2+PVA/FSC-SS hemostatic cottons had good biocompatibility. The activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) of Ca2+PVA/FSC-SS(4) was 35.34 s, which was 22.07 s faster than that of PVA/FSC-SS, indicating Ca2+PVA/FSC-SS mediated the endogenous coagulation system. In vitro coagulation test, Ca2+PVA/FSC-SS(4) could stop bleeding rapidly within 39.60 ± 5.16 s, and the ability of wound healing was higher than commercial product (Celox). This study developed a rapid procoagulant and hemostatic material, which had a promising application in a variety of environments.

RESUMO

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) play a pivotal role as essential components in various applications, including mobile devices, energy storage power supplies, and electric vehicles. The widespread utilization of LIBs underscores their significance in the field of energy storage. High-performance LIBs should exhibit two key characteristics that have been persistently sought: high energy density and safety. The separator, a critical part of LIBs, is of paramount importance in ensuring battery safety, thus requiring its high thermal stability and uniform nanochannels. Here, the novel ion-track etched polyethylene terephthalate (ITE PET) separator is controllably fabricated with ion irradiation technology. Unlike conventional polypropylene (PP) separators, the ITE PET separator demonstrated vertically aligned nanochannels with uniform channel size and distribution. The remarkable characteristics of the ITE PET separator include not only high electrolyte wettability but also exceptional thermal stability, capable of withstanding temperatures as high as 180 °C. Furthermore, the ITE PET separator exhibits a higher lithium-ion transfer number (0.59), which is advantageous in enhancing battery performance. The structural and inherent advantages of ITE PET separators contribute to enhance the C-rate capacity, electrochemical, and long-term cycling (300 cycles) stability observed in the corresponding batteries. The newly developed method for fabricating ITE PET separators, which possess high thermal stability and a uniform channel structure, fulfills the demand for high-temperature-resistant separators without requiring any modification procedures. Moreover, this method can be easily scaled up using simple processes, making it a competitive strategy for producing thermotolerant separators.

RESUMO

Objective: Dysregulation of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) is associated with the progression of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study aimed to investigate the role of long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 174 (LINC00174) in NSCLC. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, LINC00174 expression in NSCLC tissues and cell lines was investigated by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Besides, cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU). Transwell and Flow Cytometry assays were applied to detect the regulatory function of LINC00174 on the growth, migration and apoptosis of NSCLC cells. Bioinformatics analysis, dual luciferase reporter gene assay and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay predicted and verified the targeting relationship between LINC00174 and miR-31-5p, and between miR-31-5p and the 3´-untranslated region (3´UTR) of large tumor suppressor kinase 2 (LATS2), respectively. Western blotting was performed to detect the regulatory function of LINC00174 and miR-31-5p on LATS2 protein expression. Results: Compared with that in normal lung tissues, LINC00174 expression in NSCLC tissues and cell lines was reduced. LINC00174 expression was negatively associated with the TNM stage of the patients. Functional experiments showed that LINC00174 overexpression inhibited NSCLC cell multiplication and migration, and induced apoptosis. Furthermore, LINC00174 targeted miR-31-5p and repressed its expression. Additionally, LINC00174 upregulated LATS2 expression through competitively binding to miR-31-5p. Conclusion: LINC00174, as a competitive endogenous RNA, elevates LATS2 expression by adsorbing miR-31-5p, thereby inhibiting the viability and migration of NSCLC cells, and promoting apoptosis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The goal of the pooled analysis was to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of intraoperative dexmedetomidine in postoperative catheter-related bladder discomfort (CRBD). METHODS: MEDLINE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and the Excerpta Medica Database (Embase) were used to pick out randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that used intraoperative dexmedetomidine in postoperative CRBD. This study was carried out using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and pooled analysis. We used RevMan version 5.3.0. to analyze the data. RESULTS: Seven RCTs involving 607 patients were brought into in the analysis. The incidence of CRBD and the incidence of moderate to severe CRBD were assessed at 0 hours, 0.5 or 1 hour, 2 or 3 hours, 6 hours, and 12 or 24 hours postoperatively. The analysis proved that both the incidence of CRBD (P < .00001) and the incidence of moderate to severe CRBD had a statistically significant reduction at 0 hours, 0.5 or 1 hours, 2 or 3 hours, and 6 hours postoperatively (P < .00001, P <.00001, P <.00001, P = .003, respectively). The postoperative pain score was lower in the dexmedetomidine group at 0 hours (P < .00001) and 1 hour (P = .002). Safety assessments indicated that there were no statistical differences between dexmedetomidine and control for side effects, mainly including dry mouth (P = .99) and postoperative vomiting and nausea (P = .77). CONCLUSIONS: The pooled analysis demonstrates that intraoperative dexmedetomidine administration decreases the rate and severity of early postoperative CRBD without causing significant side effects.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of diuretics on extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) treatment of urolithiasis. METHODS: The databases MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Controlled Trial Register of Controlled Trials from January 1980 until November 2019 were searched to identify randomized controlled trials that referred to the use of diuretics on extracorporeal SWL treatment of urolithiasis. RESULTS: Six randomized controlled trials containing 1344 patients were included in this meta-analysis, which compared diuretics with placebo on extracorporeal SWL treatment of urolithiasis. In the analysis, we found that diuretics on extracorporeal SWL treatment were more effective for the management of urinary stones. Compared with placebo, patients who received diuretics during extracorporeal SWL treatment had significantly higher successful stone clearance rate (Odds ratio; 1.73, 95% confidence interval (CI); 1.35 to 2.21, P < .0001), higher stone fragmentation rate (odds ratio; 2.83, 95% CI; 1.30 to 6.16, P = .009), less average number of sessions per stone (mean difference; -0.13; 95% CI, -0.25 to -0.01, P = .03) and similar average number of shocks per stone (mean difference; -126.89; 95% CI, -394.53 to 140.76, P = .35). CONCLUSION: This systematic review and meta-analysis indicates that diuretics during extracorporeal SWL was effective in the management of urolithiasis with lower risk of complications.

RESUMO

Based on frequently used internal partitions in offices, the effects of pollutant source characteristics and an internal partition on airflow and contaminant distribution under different ventilation modes are studied in this paper. The indoor flow field measurement is implemented in a 1:1 single environmental chamber under different ventilation patterns, and then the numerical model is established. The numerical method is verified and analyzed by comparing the measured and simulated results. According to the verification results, the numerical simulation is introduced to study the influence of different supply and return air mixes and pollutant source distributions on the flow field and diffusion performance with an internal partition. The indoor flow field and concentration distribution under different conditions are compared, and the discharge efficiency under different working conditions is analyzed. The results indicate that internal partitions have a greater influence on the down-supply up-return ventilation mode than the floor-supply up-return and top-supply down-return ventilation mode. Furthermore, if the room is zoned, the effect of source position is larger under the down-supply up-return ventilation mode than under the other two modes.

RESUMO

The present study investigated the effects of andrographolide on postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) in aged rats to gain insight of the underlying mechanism, which may provide theoretical basis for the clinical application of andrographolide to prevent POCD in older patients. Thirty aged male rats were randomly assigned to 3 groups: Control, model and andrographolide groups. The Morris water maze test was used to examine the spatial memory and learning ability of the rats postoperatively. The histological alterations of neuronal cells in the hippocampus were visualized by H&E staining. The serum levels of neuron-specific enolase (NSE), human soluble protein-100ß (S-100ß) and the inflammation factors of interluekin (IL)-1ß, IL-6 and TNF-α involved in the nuclear factor κB (NF-κB)/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway were detected by ELISA. The NF-κB/MAPK signaling pathway-associated proteins in rat serum were detected by western blotting. Following andrographolide treatment, the rats significantly gained learning ability after surgery. Is it ameliorated hippocampal neuronal injury in rats following surgery. Andrographolide decreased NSE, S-100ß, and the inflammation factors, IL-6, IL-1ß and TNF-α in serum. Andrographolide reduced NF-κB/MAPK pathway-associated protein expression. Andrographolide ameliorated POCD in aged rats following surgery. The underlying mechanism may be associated with the downregulation the inflammatory factors and NF-κB/MAPK-associated protein expression.

RESUMO

AIM: To investigate the effects of methods of total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) and combined intravenous and inhaled anaesthesia (CIIA) for laparoscopic radical gastrectomy under the same anaesthetic depth monitored by entropy indices. PATIENTS AND METHODS: One hundred patients undergoing laparoscopic radical gastrectomy were randomly distributed into group I (anaesthetized by TIVA) and group II (anaesthetized by CIIA), each group including 50 patients. TIVA was performed with propofol and remifentanil by means of target controlled infusion (TCI) for the patients in group I. CIIA was performed for patients in group II by inhalation of sevoflurane and continuous infusion of remifentanil after anaesthesia induction, with state entropy (SE) maintained in the range of 45-60 and difference regarding response entropy (RE) and SE less than 10.3. The concentrations of epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine in plasma from radial artery blood samples were measured and the durations of surgical operation, breathing recovery, extubation, awakening, and postoperative orientation recovery recorded; and 48 h postoperative adverse reactions at the following times: the time at which the patient becomes calm for 5 min after entering the operating theatre (T0); upon completion of pneumoperitoneum (PPT) (T1); 15 min after PPT (T2); intraoperative detection (T3), immediately after extubation (T4); and 15 min after extubation (T5). RESULTS: Comparing the measurements of epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine in plasma of the above two groups at the same time, the difference between the measurements at T0 and T2, and T5 were not statistically significant (p>0.05), whereas those at T1, T3, and T4 were statistically significant (p<0.05). Specifically, the measurements for group I were significantly higher than those for group II; the differences regarding the duration of breathing recovery, extubation, and awakening in both groups were not statistically significant (p>0.05). The postoperative orientation recovery duration for group II was significantly less than that that for group I (p<0.05); none of the patients in either group had intraoperative awareness, and the incidence of adverse reactions, such as nausea, vomit, and agitation in both groups was not statistically significantly different (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: At the same anaesthetic depth, the CIIA method outperforms the TIVA method in suppressing the stress response and obtaining smooth awakening after laparoscopic radical gastrectomy for patients with gastric cancer; therefore, the CIIA method has a better anaesthetic effect.
