RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Urine storage and excretion require a network of interactions in the urinary tract and the central nervous system, which is mediated by a reservoir of water in the bladder and the outlet to the bladder neck, urethra, and external urethral sphincter. Through communicating and coordinating each other, micturition system eventually showed a switch-like activity pattern. SUMMARY: At cervicothoracic and lumbosacral spine, the spinal reflex pathway of the lower urinary tract (LUT) received mechanosensory input from the urothelium to regulate the bladder contraction activity, thereby controlled urination voluntarily. Impairment of above-mentioned any level could result in lower urinary tract dysfunction, placed a huge burden on patients and society. Specific expression of purinergic receptors and transient receptor potential (TRP) channels are thought to play an important role in urinary excretion in the LUT. KEY MESSAGES: This article reviewed the knowledge about the voiding reflex and described the role and function of TRP channels during voiding.

RESUMO

Previous evolutionary perspectives proposed that the space-time mapping on the sagittal axis originates from visuo-locomotion coupling when walking/running forward. Accordingly, the congenitally blind could not have developed a sagittal mental timeline if the latter depends on such a visuo-locomotion coupling. However, this conclusion was reached in only a single empirical study (Rinaldi et al. in J Exp Psychol General 147:444-450, 2018), and its theoretical underpinnings are not entirely convincing as locally static and continuous auditory input undergoes a relatively similar change as function of self-locomotion, but this type of sensory-locomotion coupling is spared even in congenital blindness. Therefore, the present study systematically explored whether the congenitally blind show space-time mappings on the sagittal axis using different paradigms in three experiments. In Experiment 1, using a typical implicit RT task, the congenitally blind showed the same preferred space-time mapping in the sagittal dimension as normally sighted participants did. In Experiment 2, this space-time mapping occurred even automatically when temporal relations were task-irrelevant in a naming task. In Experiment 3, in an explicit space-time mapping task, the congenitally blind were more likely to locate the past behind and the future in front of their bodies. Moreover, most blind participants used spatial metaphors for their space-time mapping on the sagittal axis. These results supported the conclusion that the congenitally blind have a sagittal mental timeline, and that their sensory-locomotion coupling experience was either more similar to that of sighted participants or not critical for the space-time mapping. The present study, thus, also helps to clarify the origin of the sagittal mental timeline.

RESUMO

A growing body of evidence suggested that time could be separately represented either on the lateral or sagittal axis. And the lateral mental time line has an origin associated with sensorimotor experience, e.g., reading/writing. However, it is still not clear whether the sagittal mental time line also originates from sensorimotor experience, e.g., walking/running. To address this question, we examined how the movement experience affected the space-time mapping on the lateral and sagittal axes using the virtual reality technique in two experiments. The results showed that the virtual movement experience had significant effects on the space-time mapping on the lateral axis (Experiment 1), but not on the sagittal axis (Experiment 2). This finding supported that the space-time mapping on the lateral axis does originate from sensorimotor experience, while the space-time mapping on the sagittal axis more likely originates from spatial metaphors in languages or other cultural experiences.

RESUMO

Bribery, an illegal conspiracy between two transactional parties, has a wide range of destructive effects on society. From an interpersonal interaction perspective, we explored how Guanxi (interpersonal relationships, including direct and indirect ones) influences individuals, especially government officials' bribe-taking probability, using behavioral experiments and questionnaires. The findings suggested that direct Guanxi promoted individuals' acceptance of bribes (Study 1a), and indirect Guanxi had the same role and effect sizes (Study 1b). However, the mechanisms were slightly different. Government officials were more likely to accept bribes from family members and friends (direct Guanxi) (than strangers) because they had more trust and felt more responsible and obligated to help them (Study 2). However, accepting bribes from those who contacted them through their family or friends (indirect Guanxi) (vs. strangers) was only driven by trust (Study 3). The present study explores the lubricant role of Guanxi in corruption, extends the literature on why bribery occurs from a new perspective, and provides suggestions for fighting corruption.

RESUMO

The heterologous strategy could improve the sensitivity of competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for detection of chemical contaminants in food samples. In this study, the heterologous coating antigen ELISA was developed to evaluate its sensitivity for mebendazole (MBZ). Results showed that the heterologous ELISA had a linear range of (IC20-IC80) 0.34-10.54 ng/mL, an IC50 value of 1.83 ng/mL, and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.13 ng/mL, in which the sensitivity of ELISA improved 1.7- and 2-fold (IC50 value dropping from 7.41 and 3.65 ng/mL to 4.27 and 1.83 ng/mL) than that of rabbit IgG- and chicken IgY-based homologous ELISA for MBZ, respectively. The heterologous coating antigen ELISA showed negligible cross reactivity (<0.2%) with its structural analogues, including hydroxy-MBZ, albendazole, oxfendazole, fenbendazole, and flubendazole, except the value of 72.6% for amino-MBZ. The average recoveries of MBZ spiked in pork and chicken muscle samples by the assay ranged from 83.7% to 109.8% and agreed well with those of high-performance liquid chromatography. The results suggested that using heterologous coating antigen could distinctly improve the sensitivity of ELISA for routine screening of MBZ residues in food samples.

RESUMO

AIM: To investigate the long non-coding RNA DLG1 Antisense RNA 1 (lncRNA DLG1-AS1) mechanism in cervical cancer cells with gemcitabine (GEM) resistance. METHODS: Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to detect DLG1-AS1, miR-16-5p, and hepatoma-derived growth factor (HDGF) expression in cervical cancer cells. The effects of DLG1-AS1 knockdown on cell viability, proliferation, and apoptosis were investigated in GEM-resistant cervical cancer cells. The binding of DLG1-AS1 with miR-16-5p and of miR-16-5p with HDGF was confirmed through dual-luciferase reporter assays. HDGF expression was detected through Western blotting. A xenograft model was established using stably transfected GEM-resistant cervical cancer cells to detect the role of DLG1-AS1 in tumorigenesis in vivo. RESULTS: DLG1-AS1 expression was significantly elevated in HeLa/GEM and SiHa/GEM cells. DLG1-AS1 silencing significantly reduced the viability and proliferation of GEM-resistant cervical cancer cells. DLG1-AS1 also promoted GEM sensitivity in cervical cancer cells by inhibiting miR-16-5p. Moreover, the tumor volume in nude mice in the DLG1-AS1 knockdown group decreased after GEM treatment. In addition, DLG1-AS1 targeted miR-16-5p, and miR-16-5p targeted HDGF. The miR-16-5p inhibitor reversed the DLG1-AS1 knockdown effect in GEM-resistant cervical cancer cells. CONCLUSION: Knockdown of DLG1-AS1 promoted GEM sensitivity in cervical cancer cells by regulating miR-16-5p/HDGF.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical effect of Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture on promoting wake-up of vegetative state after brain injury on the basis of comprehensive rehabilitation training. METHODS: A total of 100 patients with vegetative state after brain injury were randomly divided into an observation group (50 cases, 2 cases dropped off) and a control group (50 cases). Both groups were treated with routine clinical treatment. The patients in the control group were treated with rehabilitation and hyperbaric oxygen; on the basis of the control group treatment, the patients in the observation group were treated with Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture at Neiguan (PC 6), Shuigou (GV 26), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Chize (LU 5), Weizhong (BL 40), Hegu (LI 4) and Taichong (LR 3). The acupuncture was given once a day, 5 days per week, for continuous 30 days. The Glasgow coma scale (GCS) and coma recovery scale-revised (CRS-R) scores were observed before treatment and 10, 20 and 30 days into treatment. The wake-up rate of the two groups was compared after treatment. RESULTS: On 10, 20 and 30 days into treatment, the GCS and CRS-R scores in the two groups were higher than those before treatment (P<0.01), and the scores in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.01). After treatment, the wake-up rate was 16.7% (8/48) in the observation group, which was higher than 12.0% (6/50) in the control group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: On the basis of comprehensive rehabilitation and wake-up promotion therapy, the Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture could promote the recovery of consciousness level in patients with vegetative state after brain injury.

RESUMO

Quarantine and isolation at extended length, although considered as highly effective countermeasures for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) which started at the end of 2019, can have great impact on individual's mental health, especially emotional state. The present research recruited 5,115 participants from the general public across 32 provinces and autonomous regions in China in an online survey study, about 20 days after the lockdown of the epicenter (Wuhan), to investigate the relationship between the length of the quarantine and negative affect (including depression and anxiety), as well as the mediating roles of negative cognition (including worry and anticipation), and the moderating roles of dispositional optimism, tolerance of uncertainty, social support, and healthy behavior. The results showed that: (1) Worry and anticipation mediated the relationship between quarantine length and depression and anxiety; (2) Dispositional optimism moderated the path coefficients of quarantine length to worry, worry to anxiety, and anticipation to depression; (3) Tolerance of uncertainty moderated the path coefficient of worry to anxiety; (4) Social support moderated the path coefficient of anticipation to anxiety. In conclusion, during quarantine, dispositional optimism, uncertainty tolerance, and social support can buffer the direct or indirect effects of quarantine length on depression and anxiety. These findings could have profound implications on the societal responses to COVID-19 and future pandemics.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke (ICH) is associated with high mortality and severe disability in survivors, which causing about 42% of the disability-adjusted life years lost and 50% of all stroke patients dead within 1 year. Although early functional training is recommended to facility rehabilitation after the stroke, the benefit and safety are still controversial. INTRODUCTION: This systematic review aims to investigate whether early physical rehabilitation could have a beneficial effect for the patients with ICH compared with standard rehabilitation care. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane library will be searched to include randomized control trials which investigate the rehabilitation effective of the early mobilization for patients with ICH compared with routine nursing or standard care. Rev-Man version 5.3 will be used to perform all calculations related to the meta-analysis. Dichotomous data will be calculated in terms of a fixed or random effect model and expressed by the relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence interval (CI). The Cochrane collaborations tool in the following aspects was used to assess the risk of bias (ROB) in included studies. The inconsistency index (I2) and Chi-Squared will be applied for heterogeneity detection between clinical trials. A value of P < .05 will be considered statistically significant. CONCLUSION: This study will explore the role of early physical rehabilitation and provide insight for clinicals to improve rehabilitation results of ICH. REGISTRATION NUMBER: INPLASY2020110068.

RESUMO

Although there is a large literature demonstrating rapid and accurate enumeration of small sets of simultaneously presented items (i.e., subitizing), it is unclear whether this small numerosity advantage (SNA) can also manifest in sequential enumeration. The present study thus has two aims: to establish a robust processing advantage for small numerosities during sequential enumeration using a rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) paradigm, and to examine the underlying mechanism for a SNA in sequential enumeration. The results indicate that a small set of items presented in fast sequences can be enumerated accurately with a high precision and a SOA (stimulus onset asynchrony)-sensitive capacity limit, essentially generalizing the large literature on small numerosity advantage from spatial domain to temporal domain. A resource competition hypothesis was proposed and confirmed in further experiments. Specifically, sequential enumeration and other cognitive process, such as visual working memory (VWM), compete for a shared resource of object individuation by which items are segregated as individual entities. These results implied that the limited resource of object individuation can be allocated within time windows of flexible temporal scales during simultaneous and sequential enumerations. Taken together, the present study calls for attention to the dynamic aspect of the enumeration process and highlights the pivotal role of object individuation in underlying a wide range of mental operations, such as enumeration and VWM.

RESUMO

Timing can be processed explicitly or implicitly. Temporal orienting is a typical implicit timing through which we can anticipate and prepare an optimized response to forthcoming events. It is, however, not yet clear whether mechanisms such as temporal-pulse accumulation and attentional gating (more attention, more accumulated temporal pulses) underly the internal representations of temporal orienting, as in explicit timing. To clarify this, a dual-task paradigm, consisting of a temporal orienting and an interference task, was adopted. Consistent with the temporal-pulse-accumulation and attentional-gating model, reaction times to the target detection of temporal orienting increased as the interference stimuli were temporally closer to the target, i.e., a location effect for temporal orienting. This effect is likely due to attention being diverted away from temporal orienting to monitor the occurrence of the interference stimuli for a longer time, resulting in greater temporal pulse loss and less accurate temporal orienting for conditions with later interference stimuli. The temporal-pulse-accumulation aspect in temporal orienting received further support by taking an explicit duration reproduction (containing a second temporal-pulse accumulation) as the interference task. On the one hand, temporal orienting became less accurate with increased temporal-pulse-accumulation overlaps between the dual tasks; on the other hand, two-way (one for temporal orienting and the other for duration reproduction), rather than one-way, location effects were observed, implying processing conflicts between the two temporal-pulse accumulations. Taken together, these results suggest that implicit and explicit timing may share common mechanisms upon internal temporal representations.

RESUMO

In February 2020, the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) was raging in Wuhan, China and quickly spreading to the rest of the world. This period was fraught with uncertainty for those in the affected areas. The present investigation examined the role of two potential coping resources during this stressful period of uncertainty: flow and mindfulness. Participants in Wuhan and other major cities affected by COVID-19 (N = 5115) completed an online survey assessing subjective experiences of flow, mindfulness, and well-being. Longer quarantine was associated with poorer well-being; flow and mindfulness were associated with better well-being on some measures. However, flow-but not mindfulness-moderated the link between quarantine length and well-being, such that people who experienced high levels flow showed little or no association between quarantine length and poorer well-being. These findings suggest that experiencing flow (typically by engaging in flow-inducing activities) may be a particularly effective way to protect against potentially deleterious effects of a period of quarantine.

RESUMO

A growing body of evidence suggested that time can be represented separately either on the lateral, sagittal or vertical axis. However, it is still not clear whether these mental time lines from different origins could co-exist, or compete with each other such that if one is selected, the others are inhibited? The present study addressed this question using a multi-dimensional free-choice paradigm with Mandarin speakers in three experiments. The results showed that significant spatial-temporal congruency effects were found both on the lateral and sagittal/vertical axes in the horizontal/coronal plane either in a temporal judgment relevant or irrelevant task. By contrast, the spatial-temporal congruency effects did not appear at the same time on the sagittal and vertical axes in the sagittal plane. These results supported that lateral mental time line could co-exist with the other two, while sagittal and vertical mental time lines could not co-exist with each other. This finding implied that the space-time mapping mechanism is different between the lateral axis and the sagittal and vertical axes, whereas it is the same for the latter two axes.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical therapeutic effect of midnight-noon ebb-flow acupuncture combined with rehabilitation therapy and simple rehabilitation therapy in severe craniocerebral trauma patients with vegetative state. METHODS: A total of 100 patients were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 50 cases in each one. Basic treatment of medication, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and specialized nursing were given in both groups. In the control group, rehabilitation therapy was adopted for 30 min each time, once a day. On the basis of the control group, midnight-noon ebb-flow acupuncture was applied in the observation group, the needles were sustained for 30 min, once a day, 5 times a week. The treatment was for 30 days in both groups. Before treatment and after 10, 20, 30 days of treatment, scores of Glasgow coma scale (GCS) and coma recovery scale-revised (CRS-R) were observed, and the conscious rate after treatment was calculated in both groups. RESULTS: Compared before treatment, the GCS and CRS-R scores after 10, 20, 30 days of treatment were increased in both groups (P<0.01), and the scores in the observation group were superior to those in the control group (P<0.01). After treatment, the conscious rate was 20.0% (10/50) in the observation group, which was superior to 12.0% (6/50) in the control group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Midnight-noon ebb-flow acupuncture combined with rehabilitation therapy can effectively treat the severe craniocerebral trauma patients with vegetative state, improve the consciousness level, and have superior therapeutic effect compared with simple rehabilitation therapy.

RESUMO

The structural phase transition, ferroelectric polarization, and electric properties have been investigated for photovoltaic films CsMI3 (M = Pb, Sn) epitaxially grown along (001) direction based on the density functional theory. The calculated results indicate that the phase diagrams of two epitaxial CsPbI3 and CsSnI3 films are almost identical, except critical transition strains varying slightly. The epitaxial tensile strains induce two ferroelectric phases Pmc21, and Pmn21, while the compressive strains drive two paraelectric phases P212121, P21212. The larger compressive strain enhances the ferroelectric instability in these two films, eventually rendering them another ferroelectric state Pc. Whether CsPbI3 or CsSnI3, the total polarization of Pmn21 phase comes from the main contribution of B-position cations (Pb or Sn), whereas, for Pmc21 phase, the main contributor is the I ion. Moreover, the epitaxial strain effects on antiferrodistortive vector, polarization and band gap of CsMI3 (M = Pb, Sn) are further discussed. Unusual electronic properties under epitaxial strains are also revealed and interpreted.

RESUMO

We perform the first-principles calculations combined with the particle swarm optimization algorithm to investigate the high-pressure phase diagrams of Na[Formula: see text]F3 ([Formula: see text] = Mn, Ni, Zn). Two reconstructive phase transitions are predicted from Pv-[Formula: see text] to pPv-[Formula: see text] at about 9 GPa and pPv-[Formula: see text] to ppPv-[Formula: see text] at around 26 GPa for NaZnF3. That is not the case for NaMnF3-a direct transition (reconstructive transition in nature but with the same Pnma space group) from Pv-[Formula: see text] to ppPv-[Formula: see text] phase around 12 GPa. Strikingly, our simulated results manifest that a disproportionation phase of NaZnF3 post-perovskite is uncovered along the way, which provides a successful explanation for the observed results in experiment. Additionally, the mechanical and thermal properties, especially the dynamical property, of the four NaZnF3 phases have also been studied. Here, we reveal the obvious softening of [Formula: see text]-wave velocity and bulk sound speed in pPv-[Formula: see text]-to-ppPv-[Formula: see text] transition, which may result in the discontinuity of seismic waves propagation through the Earth's interior.

RESUMO

A novel Cu2O-Au-BFO heterostructure photocathode was constructed which significantly improved the efficiency of photo-generated carrier transfer for solar hydrogen production. A BiFeO3 (BFO) ferroelectric film was synthesized on top of a Cu2O layer by a sputtering process. The BFO layer acted to protect the Cu2O layer from photochemical corrosion, increasing photoelectrochemical (PEC) stability. The p-n heterojunction between Cu2O and BFO layers enhanced the PEC properties by suppressing charge recombination and improved interfacial charge transfer efficiency. When Cu2O and BFO are interfaced by Au Nanoparticles (NPs) the PEC performance was further enhanced, due to hot-electron transfer at the plasmonic resonance. After positive poling, the depolarization field across the whole volume of BFO film drove electrons into the electrolyte solution, inducing a significant anodic shift, Vop of 1.01 V vs. RHE, together with a significantly enhanced photocurrent density of -91 µA/cm2 at 0 V vs. RHE under 100 mW/cm2 illumination. The mechanism was investigated through experimental and theoretivcal calculations.

RESUMO

We studied differences in localizing the centres of flow in radially expanding and contracting patterns in different regions of the visual field. Our results suggest that the perceived centre of a peripherally viewed expanding pattern is shifted towards the fovea relative to that of a contracting pattern, but only in the lower right and upper right visual quadrants and when a single speed gradient with appropriate overall speeds of the trajectories of the moving dots was used. The biases were not systematically related to differences of sensitivity to optic flow in different quadrants. Further experiments demonstrated that the biases were likely due to a combination of two effects: an advantage of global processing in favor of the lower visual hemifield and a hemispheric asymmetry in attentional allocation in favor of motion-induced spatial displacement in the right visual hemifield. The bias in the lower right visual quadrant was speed gradient-sensitive and could be reduced to a non-significant level with the usage of multiple speed gradients, possibly due to a special role of the lower visual hemifield in extracting global information from the multiple speed gradients. A holistic processing on multiple speed gradients, rather than a predominant processing on a single speed gradient, was likely adopted. In contrast, the perceived bias in the upper right visual quadrant was overall speed-sensitive and could be reduced to a non-significant level with the reduction of the overall speeds of the trajectories. The implications of these results for understanding motion-induced spatial illusions are discussed.

RESUMO

Task-irrelevant stimulus numbers can automatically modulate concurrent temporal tasks--leading to the phenomenon of number-time association (NTA). Recent research provides converging evidence that the NTA occurs at the stage of temporal memory. Specifically, a reference memory containing encoded duration information can be modified by perceptual/concurrent digits, i.e., a perceptual/concurrent digit-induced NTA. Here, with five experiments, we investigated whether another working memory (WM)-related mechanism was involved in the generation of NTAs and how this memory-induced NTA was related with the perception-induced NTA. We first explored whether similar NTA effects existed for mnemonic digits which disappeared before time encoding but were actively maintained in WM, i.e., a mnemonic digit-induced NTA. Experiments 1-3 demonstrated both types of NTAs. Further, we revealed a close relationship between the two types of NTAs in two contexts. First, the mnemonic digit-induced NTA also relied on a perceptual number-time co-occurrence at time encoding. We found that the mnemonic digits influenced subsequent temporal processing when a task-irrelevant constant number '5' was presented during target encoding, but not when a non-numerical symbol was presented, suggesting that temporal representations in the reference memory could be accessed and modified by both sensory and postsensory numerical magnitudes through this number-time co-occurrence. Second, the effects of perceptual and mnemonic digits on temporal reproduction could cancel each other out. A congruency effect for perceptual and mnemonic digits (relying on memorization requirement) was demonstrated in Experiments 4 and 5. Specifically, a typical NTA was observed when the magnitudes of memorized and the perceptual/concurrent digits were congruent (both were large or small numbers), but not when they were incongruent (one small and one large numbers). Taken together, our study sheds new light on the mechanism of NTA.

RESUMO

A recent hierarchical model of numerical processing, initiated by Fischer and Brugger (2011) and Fischer (2012), suggested that situated factors, such as different body postures and body movements, can influence the magnitude representation and bias numerical processing. Indeed, Loetscher et al. (2008) found that participants' behavior in a random number generation task was biased by head rotations. More small numbers were reported after leftward than rightward head turns, i.e., a motion-numerical compatibility effect. Here, by carrying out two experiments, we explored whether similar motion-numerical compatibility effects exist for movements of other important body components, e.g., arms, and for composite body movements as well, which are basis for complex human activities in many ecologically meaningful situations. In Experiment 1, a motion-numerical compatibility effect was observed for lateral rotations of two body components, i.e., the head and arms. Relatively large numbers were reported after making rightward compared to leftward movements for both lateral head and arm turns. The motion-numerical compatibility effect was observed again in Experiment 2 when participants were asked to perform composite body movements of congruent movement directions, e.g., simultaneous head left turns and arm left turns. However, it disappeared when the movement directions were incongruent, e.g., simultaneous head left turns and arm right turns. Taken together, our results extended Loetscher et al.'s (2008) finding by demonstrating that their effect is effector-general and exists for arm movements. Moreover, our study reveals for the first time that the impact of spatial information on numerical processing induced by each of the two sensorimotor-based situated factors, e.g., a lateral head turn and a lateral arm turn, can cancel each other out.
