RESUMO

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, mask-wearing has become a widespread phenomenon. Even after the pandemic, people continue to maintain the habit of wearing masks in their daily lives. While existing research has explored how mask-wearing can influence wearers' behavior in everyday life, its effects in the workplace have received less attention. Drawing on self-perception theory, this study examined the positive effect of mask-wearing in the workplace on wearers' voice behavior via psychological safety. An online experiment (N = 291) using a within-subject manipulation of wearing masks supported our hypotheses. This study uncovered the positive psychological and behavioral consequences of mask-wearing beyond its benefits in people's health conditions and everyday life.

Both E. multilocularis and host-derived exosomes are involved in the pathogenic process of alveolar echinococcosis (AE). Exosomes secrete miRNAs that have regulatory roles in host-pathogen interactions in multiple ways. In the present study, we collected and purified supernatants of E. multilocularis cultures, as well as human plasma exosomes. High-throughput sequencing showed the identities of 45 exosomal miRNAs in E. multilocularis. The lengths of these miRNAs ranged from 19 to 25 nucleotides (nt), with the majority (n = 18) measuring 22 nt. Notably, emu-let-7-5p emerged as the most abundant among these miRNAs, with a detected count of 33,097 and also length of 22 nt. Nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) showed that the concentration of exosomes in the plasma of AE patients was lower compared to that in the healthy individuals. This result suggested that the concentration of plasma exosomes was able to distinguish AE patients from healthy individuals. Using qRT-PCR to assess the relative expression of 10 miRNAs of E. multilocularis, we showed that the expression of miR-184-3p was downregulated significantly in the exosomes of plasma from AE patients compared to that in the control group. In summary, this study indicates that AE induces a reduction in the concentration of human plasma exosomes, as well as downregulating miR-184-3p in infected individuals.

The composites formed by whey protein isolate (WPI) and octenyl succinate anhydride (OSA)-modified starch were characterized with a focus on the effect of pH, and their potential in fabricating high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs) as fat substitutes was evaluated. The particles obtained at pH 3.0, 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0 presented a nanosized distribution (122.04 ± 0.84 nm-163.24 ± 4.12 nm) while those prepared at pH 4.0 and 5.0 were remarkably larger. Results from the shielding agent reaction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) showed that the interaction between WPI and OSA starch was mainly hydrophobic at pH 3.0-5.0, while there was a strong electrostatic repulsion at pH 6.0-8.0. A quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) study showed that remarkably higher ΔD and lower Δf/n were observed at pH 3.0-5.0 after successive deposition of WPI and OSA starch, whereas slight changes were noted for those made at higher pH values. The WPI-OSA starch (W-O) composite-based HIPEs made at pH 3.0 and 6.0-8.0 were physically stable after long-term storage, thermal treatment, or centrifugation. Incorporation of HIPE into the biscuit formula yielded products with a desirable sensory quality.
