RESUMO

In this work we investigate the effect of the confinement angle on self-colliding aluminium laser produced plasmas. More specifically, we apply V-shaped channel targets of different angles (90°, 60° and 30°) and report both broadband and filtered time-resolved fast imaging measurements on the formation of such plasmas in ambient air. Based on the broadband measurements we suggest that the plasmas formed on the two inner walls of the V-shaped channel expand normally to the surface, interact with each other and possibly stagnate. The spectrally filtered fast imaging reveals the presence of a spatial distribution of different species within the plasmas and signatures of forced recombination.

RESUMO

The term "stuck catheter" refers to situations where a central venous catheter cannot be removed from the central veins or right atrium using standard technique, usually due to development of a fibrin sheath leading to adherence to SVC or right atrial wall. Endoluminal dilatation is an interventional radiology technique that has been previously reported in the removal of stuck hemodialysis catheters, and to the best of our knowledge, this case describes the first application of the technique to remove a hemodialysis catheter that was adherent to SVC wall and transvenous pacemaker leads.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Intussusception is rare in adults and can have acute, intermittent or chronic presentations. We present an unusual case of intussusception in an adult. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 25 year old male presented with sudden severe abdominal pain and vomiting. He had no relevant medical history. Mechanical small bowel obstruction was confirmed on imaging and laparotomy revealed a nodular lead point in the submucosa of the ileum. He had resection of a segment of small bowel with a primary anastamosis. Histopathology of the lesion demonstrated myoepithelial hamartoma (MEH), a rare cause of intussusception. DISCUSSION: Although intussusception is not uncommon in children, it is rare in adults. Management delays are a major cause of morbidity. This report details our management of a case of intussusception caused by MEH in an otherwise healthy adult. CONCLUSION: Intussusception caused by MEH is a rare but serious cause of mechanical bowel obstruction. We propose that surgeons should consider this diagnosis in atypical cases of bowel obstruction and expedite laparotomy when it is suspected.
