RESUMO

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex multifactorial neurodegenerative disease. Metal ion dyshomeostasis and Aß aggregation have been proposed to contribute to AD progression. Metal ions can bind to Aß and promote Aß aggregation, and ultimately lead to neuronal death. Bifunctional (metal chelation and Aß interaction) compounds are showing promise against AD. In this work, eleven new 3,3'-diamino-2,2'-bipyridine derivatives 4a-4k were synthesized, and evaluated as bifunctional agents for AD treatment. In vitro Aß aggregation inhibition assay confirmed that most of the synthesized compounds exhibited significant self-induced Aß1-42 aggregation inhibition. Among them, compound 4d displayed the best inhibitory potency of self-induced Aß1-42 aggregation with IC50 value of 9.4 µM, and it could selectively chelate with Cu2+ and exhibited 66.2% inhibition of Cu2+-induced Aß1-42 aggregation. Meanwhile, compound 4d showed strong neuroprotective activity against Aß1-42 and Cu2+-treated Aß1-42 induced cell damage. Moreover, compound 4d in high dose significantly reversed Aß-induced memory impairment in mice.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) materials have gained lots of attention due to the potential applications. In this work, we propose that based on first-principles calculations, the (2 × 2) patterned PtTe2 monolayer with kagome lattice formed by the well-ordered Te vacancy (PtTe1.75) hosts large and tunable spin Hall conductivity (SHC) and excellent hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity. The unconventional nature relies on the A1 @ 1b band representation of the highest valence band without spin-orbit coupling (SOC). The large SHC comes from the Rashba SOC in the noncentrosymmetric structure induced by the Te vacancy. Even though it has a metallic SOC band structure, the ℤ2 invariant is well defined because of the existence of the direct bandgap and is computed to be nontrivial. The calculated SHC is as large as 1.25 × 103 ℏ e (Ω cm)-1 at the Fermi level (EF ). By tuning the chemical potential from EF - 0.3 to EF + 0.3 eV, it varies rapidly and monotonically from -1.2 × 103 to 3.1 × 1 0 3 ℏ e Ω   cm - 1 . In addition, we also find that the Te vacancy in the patterned monolayer can induce excellent HER activity. Our results not only offer a new idea to search 2D materials with large SHC, i.e., by introducing inversion-symmetry breaking vacancies in large SOC systems, but also provide a feasible system with tunable SHC (by applying gate voltage) and excellent HER activity.

RESUMO

Topological semimetals such as Dirac, Weyl or nodal line semimetals are widely studied for their peculiar properties including high Fermi velocities, small effective masses and high magnetoresistance. When the Dirac cone is tilted, exotic phenomena could emerge whereas materials hosting such states are promising for photonics and plasmonics applications. Here we present evidence that SrAgBi is a spin-orbit coupling-induced type-II three-dimensional Dirac semimetal featuring tilted Dirac cone at the Fermi energy. Near charge compensation and Fermi surface characteristics are not much perturbed by 7% of vacancy defects on the Ag atomic site, suggesting that SrAgBi could be a material of interest for observation of robust optical and spintronic topological quantum phenomena.
