RESUMO

In this paper, a novel liquid level sensing system is proposed to enhance the capacity of the sensing system, as well as reduce the cost and increase the sensing accuracy. The proposed sensing system can monitor the liquid level of several points at the same time in the sensing unit. Additionally, for cost efficiency, the proposed system employs only one sensor at each spot and all the sensors are multiplexed. In multiplexed systems, when changing the liquid level inside the container, the float position is changed and leads to an overlap or cross-talk between two sensors. To solve this overlap problem and to accurately predict the liquid level of each container, we proposed a deep neural network (DNN) approach to properly identify the water level. The performance of the proposed DNN model is evaluated via two different scenarios and the result proves that the proposed DNN model can accurately predict the liquid level of each point. Furthermore, when comparing the DNN model with the conventional machine learning schemes, including random forest (RF) and support vector machines (SVM), the DNN model exhibits the best performance.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer, which is currently the leading cause of cancer death. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play important roles in cancer, however, circRNAs serving as vital index in BC for guiding treatment have not yet been identified. The aim of our study is to explore a novel kind of potential biomarker for BC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this retrospective study, the samples used for assays were two groups of breast tumor tissue obtained from four BC patients, including four pairs of tumor tissues and adjacent nontumor samples. The circRNA expression profiles were detected via microarray and validated by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR). RESULTS: The differentially expressed circRNAs in tested samples were screened and analyzed by using human circRNA microarray. After analysis, considering a fold gene expression change of ≥2.0 and P<0.05, results suggested that 256 circRNAs were significantly up-regulated and 277 circRNAs were significantly down-regulated. Besides, the results of the real-time quantitative PCR assay showed that the expression of hsa_circ_0001583 was significantly up-regulated in BC groups (P<0.05) by real-time quantitative PCR. Therefore, we thought hsa_circ_0001583 might serve as a novel kind of biomarker for BC. CONCLUSION: Hsa_circ_0001583 showed significant up-regulation in BC patients with paired adjacent tissues. Many cancer immune pathways were related to has_circ_0001583, including autoimmune thyroid disease, chemokine and T-cell receptor signaling pathways.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the significance of H3K27me3 and its methyltransferase EZH2 in predicting the short-term and long-term outcome of newly diagnosed patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). METHODS: The paraffin wax speciments of 102 DLBCL patients in Fujian Medical University Cancer Hospital were collected. The expression of H3K27me3, EZH2 and BCL-2 protein were detected using tissue array made by tissue microarray(TMA) technique and immunohistochemistry method. The evaluation data after clinical treatment and follow-up results were collected and combined with expression levels of H3K27me3, EZH2 and BCL-2 detected by tissue array, then on the basis of these data, the survival of patients was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method, the correlation of EZH2 with H3K27me3 and BCL-2 was analyzed by pearson correlation test, the correlation of above mentioned indicators with different therapeutic efficacy was analyzed by spearman correlation test. The relationship of H3K27me3 and EZH2 expression as well as co-expression of H3K27me3 and EZH2 with the therapeutic efficacy and prognosis of patients were compared. RESULTS: A total of 61.8% patients showed EZH2 high expression which positively correlated with high expression of H3K27me3 and BCL-2. The complete remission (CR) and overall remission (OR) rates in H3K27me3 high expression and co-expression of H3K27me3 EZH2 groups were lower than those in low expression groups (P<0.001), moreover OS and PFS rates also were lower than those in low expression (P<0.001). In the RCHOP subgroup, the patients with EZH2 low expression showed significantly better CR, OR OS and PFS in comparison with those of patients with higher expression (P=0.003,P=0.019). CONCLUSION: Part of DLBCL patients with H3K27me3 high expression or coexpression of both H3K27me3 and EZH2 exhibit a worse prognosis in comparison with those patients with H3K27me3 low expression or without coexpression. The patients with EZH2 low expression usually responde well to RCHOP regimen in the short-term or long-term survival.

RESUMO

This paper reports on efforts to enhance the photovoltaic performance of textured silicon solar cells through the application of a layer of Eu-doped silicate phosphor with particles of various dimensions using the spin-on film technique. We examined the surface profile and dimensions of the Eu-doped phosphors in the silicate layer using optical microscopy with J-image software. Optical reflectance, photoluminescence, and external quantum efficiency were used to characterize the luminescent downshifting (LDS) and light scattering of the Eu-doped silicate phosphor layer. Current density-voltage curves under AM 1.5G simulation were used to confirm the contribution of LDS and light scattering produced by phosphor particles of various dimensions. Experiment results reveal that smaller phosphor particles have a more pronounced effect on LDS and a slight shading of incident light. The application of small Eu-doped phosphor particles increased the conversion efficiency by 9.2% (from 12.56% to 13.86%), far exceeding the 5.6% improvement (from 12.54% to 13.32%) achieved by applying a 250 nm layer of SiO2 and the 4.5% improvement (from 12.37% to 12.98%) observed in cells with large Eu-doped phosphor particles.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression and prognostic effect of H3K27 trimethylation protein (H3K27me3) in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBCL). METHODS: A total of 102 DLBCL patients from Fujian Provincial Cancer Hospital were enrolled in this study. No therapy had been given before specimen collection. Tissue microarray(TMA) technique and immunohistochemistry(IHC) method were used for H3K27me3 immunostaining. Clinicopathologic and suvival data were carefully collected. The association between tested markers, clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis were evaluated. Survival rates were analyzed by the Kaplan-Meier method, and prognostic factor were analyzed by the Cox proportional hazards model, the relation of different expression levels with clinical feature and prognosis of patients was compared. RESULTS: The quality of TMA was perfect and meet the standard of analysis. Among all DLBCL patients, 59.8% were characterized with high expression of H3K27me3, correlated with age, ECOG≥2, extranodular disease number≥2, elevation of LDH, medium-high risk IPI. Patients with high H3K27me3 expression manifested that the complete remission rate(CR) and overall remission rate (OR) were lower than those of patients with low expression, i.e., 20% vs 57.5% and 41.8% vs 90%, respectively (P<0.001). In addition, patients with high H3K27me3 expression showed shorter median survival time, i.e., 21.5 mon (P<0.0001). Multivariate analysis indicated that H3K27me3 was an independent risk factor for DLBCL patients (P=0.007). CONCLUSION: TMA technique is valid for the construction of DLBCL tissue chips. Patients with high expression of H3K27me3 indicates little response to treatment, worse outcome and shorter overall survival. The detection of H3K27me3 expression possesses a certain clinical value for prediction of DLBCL outcome.

RESUMO

ERCC2 is an essential component of the nucleotide excision repair pathway which is involved in the effective maintenance of genome integrity. Association studies on ERCC2 polymorphisms and glioma risk have yielded inconclusive results. This meta-analysis was performed to gain a better insight into the relationship between ERCC2 polymorphisms and glioma risk. A systematic literature search updated to December 2, 2013 was performed in the Pubmed and EMBASE databases. Crude pooled odds ratios (ORs) with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were used to estimate the association between ERCC2 polymorphisms and glioma risk under a suitable effect model according to heterogeneity. All analyses were performed using Review Manager 5 (version 5.2) and STATA (version 12.0). The combined results demonstrated rs13181 to be significantly associated with glioma risk (G allele versus T allele: OR=1.15, 95% CI=1.05-1.26, P=0.002; dominant model: OR=1.22, 95% CI=1.07-1.39, P=0.002; recessive model: OR=1.18, 95% CI=0.98-1.41, P=0.070). We also found that rs13181 acts in an allele dose-dependent manner (GG versus TT: OR=1.30, 95% CI=1.07-1.57, P=0.009; TG versus TT: OR=1.20, 95%=CI 1.05-1.37, P=0.009; trend test, P=0.004). However, no evidence was found in analyses for the association between other 3 ERCC2 polymorphisms (rs238406, rs1799793, and rs1052555) and susceptibility to glioma development. Our meta-analysis suggests that rs13181 is significantly associated with glioma risk in an allele dose-dependent manner, whereas, 3 other ERCC2 polymorphisms (rs238406, rs1799793, and rs1052555) may have no influence.
