RESUMO
We report the case of a young girl with recurrent sharp pain in the outer aspect of the ankle. She had no previous trauma. High-resolution US (HRUS) showed a complete intermittent dislocation of the peroneal tendons. Post-traumatic chronic peroneal instability is quite common, whereas complete dislocation is rare. HRUS is an important adjunct to clinical examination and radiographic evaluation of patients with musculoskeletal disorders of the foot and ankle [1]. This paper reports its value in non-traumatic recurrent dislocation of the peroneal tendons.

The authors present their initial experience in the US Study of the foetal hip. Focusing on difficulties found and the possible advantages. The US foetal hip study shows that it is most likely to obtain qualitative morphologic data rather than quantitative that are interesting in case of occasional identification remark during US.

The association of Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome (RTS) and slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is described in a girl aged 9 years and 10 months. SCFE has never been reported associated with RTS, neither as an isolated anomaly, nor in a familial pedigree. However, a "stiff gait" is frequently described in RTS patients and, furthermore, obesity is a frequent feature of RTS patients. Some reports in the literature suggest the need for an early diagnosis of SCFE among adolescent relatives of patients with SCFE. Since many SCFEs are asymptomatic and an early diagnosis is essential for a favorable prognosis, we suggest an annual echotomographic or radiological examination of the hips in RTS patients.

The special characteristics of the "Bio-direct" femoral component, which has been used in total hip replacement for approximately 7 years, are described. Although the current trend is to pair a cemented acetabular component with the Bio-direct femoral component, a new self-threading acetabulum (CAB 1) has recently been implanted in 12 patients. This new acetabular component is fully illustrated.

The authors discuss the biomechanical features of the "Biodirect" cementless prosthesis, which has been used for over 6 years in the treatment of displaced femoral neck fractures. The long-term clinical and radiographic results of this study were generally favorable and seemed directly proportional to the accuracy of the implantation technique.
