RESUMO

The surrounding hydrogen bond (H-bond) interaction around the active sites plays indispensable functions in enabling the organic electrode materials (OEMs) to fulfill their roles as ion reservoirs in aqueous zinc-organic batteries (ZOBs). Despite important, there are still no works could fully shed its real effects light on. Herein, quinone-based small molecules with a H-bond evolution model has been rationally selected to disclose the regulation and equilibration of H-bond interaction between OEMs, and OEM and the electrolyte. It has been found that only a suitable H-bond interaction could make the OEMs fully liberate their potential performance. Accordingly, the 2,5-diaminocyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione (DABQ) with elaborately designed H-bond structure exhibits a capacity of 193.3 mA h g-1 at a record-high mass loading of 66.2 mg cm-2 and 100% capacity retention after 1500 cycles at 5 A g-1. In addition, the DABQ//Zn battery also possesses air-rechargeable ability by utilizing the chemistry redox of proton. Our results put forward a specific pathway to precise utilization of H-bond to liberate the performance of OEMs.

Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) as insertion-type cathodes have attracted significant attention in various aqueous batteries to accommodate metal or non-metal ions while suffering from serious dissolution and consequent inferior lifespan. Herein, we reveal that the dissolution of PBAs primarily originates from the locally elevated pH of electrolytes that are caused by proton co-insertion during discharge. To address this issue, a water-locking electrolyte (WLE) has been strategically implemented, which interrupts the generation and Grotthuss diffusion of protons by breaking the well-connected hydrogen bonding network in aqueous electrolytes. As a result, the WLE enables the iron hexacyanoferrate to endure over 1000 cycles at a 1C rate and supports a high-voltage decoupled cell with an average voltage of 1.95 V. These findings provide insights for mitigating dissolution problems in electrode materials, thereby enhancing the viability and performance of aqueous batteries.

BACKGROUND: Self-regulation is crucial for nurses who engage in in-depth end-of-life conversations with advanced cancer patients, especially in cultural contexts featuring death taboos. An improved understanding of the self-regulation process of nurses can help them address negative emotions and promote self-growth more effectively. Therefore, this study aimed to explore nurses' self-regulation process after end-of-life conversations with advanced cancer patients. METHODS: This study employed a descriptive, qualitative approach. Seventeen nurses from four hospitals and a hospice unit in mainland China were interviewed between September 2022 and June 2023. Data were collected through face-to-face semistructured interviews. A thematic analysis method was used to analyse the data following the guidance of regulatory focus theory. RESULTS: Three main themes were developed: self-regulation antecedents include personality, experience, and support; promotion or prevention is a possible self-regulation process for nurses; both self-exhaustion and self-growth may be the outcomes of self-regulation, as did seven subthemes. Personality tendencies, life experience, and perceived support may affect nurses' self-regulation, thereby affecting their self-regulation outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: Nurses exhibit different self-regulatory tendencies and self-regulation outcomes. The provision of peer support and counselling support to nurses is highly important with regard to achieving good self-regulation outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Camellia oleifera, an essential woody oil tree in China, propagates through grafting. However, in production, it has been found that the interaction between rootstocks and scions may affect fruit characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to predict fruit characteristics after grafting to identify suitable rootstock types. METHODS: This study used Deep Neural Network (DNN) methods to analyze the impact of 106 6-year-old grafting combinations on the characteristics of C.oleifera, including fruit and seed characteristics, and fatty acids. The prediction of characteristics changes after grafting was explored to provide technical support for the cultivation and screening of specialized rootstocks. After determining the unsaturated fat acids, palmitoleic acid C16:1, cis-11 eicosenoic acid C20:1, oleic acid C18:1, linoleic acid C18:2, linolenic acid C18:3, kernel oil content, fruit height, fruit diameter, fresh fruit weight, pericarp thickness, fresh seed weight, and the number of fresh seeds, the DNN method was used to calculate and analyze the model. The model was screened using the comprehensive evaluation index of Mean Absolute Error (MAPE), determinate correlation R2 and and time consumption. RESULTS: When using 36 neurons in 3 hidden layers, the deep neural network model had a MAPE of less than or equal to 16.39% on the verification set and less than or equal to 13.40% on the test set. Compared with traditional machine learning methods such as support vector machines and random forests, the DNN method demonstrated more accurate predictions for fruit phenotypic characteristics, with MAPE improvement rates of 7.27 and 3.28 for the 12 characteristics on the test set and maximum R2 improvement values of 0.19 and 0.33. In conclusion, the DNN method developed in this study can effectively predict the oil content and fruit phenotypic characteristics of C. oleifera, providing a valuable tool for predicting the impact of grafting combinations on the fruit of C. oleifera.

As important chemical raw materials and organic solvents, halogenated hydrocarbons not only play an important role in economic development, but are also the main source of environmental pollution. This study proposed an improved groundwater risk assessment model system, aimed at identifying and treating contaminants at leak sites. Groundwater ubiquity score (GUS) was used to evaluate the leachability of organic pollutants. The entropy-weighted water quality index (EWQI) method was used to assess the comprehensive quality of groundwater at the site. An improved groundwater health risk assessment model was constructed to analyze the health risks of groundwater. The sources of organic pollutants were identified based on the positive matrix factorization (PMF) model. Self-organizing mapping (SOM) and the K-means algorithm were integrated to classify and manage pollution source areas. The results showed that groundwater in the study area was strongly affected by human activities. The pollution source was located in a factory near S05. Different organic pollutants were highly leachable and had high potential to contaminate surrounding groundwater. 1,2-dichloropropane and 1,2,3-trichloropropane caused the largest range of contamination. The groundwater pollution index in the study area was high, and 72% of the monitoring points were non-drinkable. Both the carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic indexes of groundwater far exceeded the international standard limits and had a great impact on human health. 1,2,3-trichloropropane and 1,2-dichloropropane were major non-carcinogenic risk factors. The leakage of pollutants and pesticide solvents were the main causes of groundwater pollution. Cluster areas III and II were areas with significant pollution impacts and needed to be monitored intensively. Most areas were cluster I, with relatively low risk. This study can provide technical support for groundwater pollution risk assessment and management in similar industrial parks.

Organic electrode materials (OEMs) have gathered extensive attention for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) due to their structural diversity and molecular designability. However, the reported research mainly focuses on the design of the planar configuration of OEMs and does not take into account the important influence of the spatial structure on the electrochemical properties, which seriously hamper the further performance liberation of OEMs. Herein, this work has designed a series of thioether-linked naphthoquinone-derived isomers with tunable spatial structures and applied them as the cathodes in AZIBs. The incomplete conjugated structure of the elaborately engineered isomers can guarantee the independence of the redox reaction of active groups, which contributes to the full utilization of active sites and high redox reversibility. In addition, the position isomerization of naphthoquinones on the benzene rings changes the zincophilic activity and redox kinetics of the isomers, signifying the importance of spatial structure on the electrochemical performance. As a result, the 2,2'-(1,4-phenylenedithio) bis(1,4-naphthoquinone) (p-PNQ) with the smallest steric hindrance and the most independent redox of active sites exhibits a high specific capacity (279 mAh g-1), an outstanding rate capability (167 mAh g-1 at 100 A g-1), and a long-term cycling lifetime (over 2800 h at 0.05 A g-1).

Emerging findings point to a role for C1q/TNF-related protein 4 (CTRP4) in feeding in mammals. However, it remains unknown whether CTRP4 regulates feeding in fish. This study aimed to determine the feeding regulation function of CTRP4 in Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii). In this study, the Siberian sturgeon ctrp4 (Abctrp4) gene was cloned, and Abctrp4 mRNA was shown to be highly expressed in the hypothalamus. In the hypothalamus, Abctrp4 mRNA decreased during fasting and reversed after refeeding. Subsequently, we obtained the AbCTRP4 recombinant protein by prokaryotic expression and optimized the expression and purification conditions. Siberian sturgeon (81.28 ± 14.75 g) were injected intraperitoneally using 30, 100, and 300 ng/g Body weight (BW) AbCTRP4 to investigate its effect on feeding. The results showed that 30, 100, and 300 ng/g BW of the AbCTRP4 significantly reduced the cumulative food intake of Siberian sturgeon at 1, 3, and 6 h. Finally, to investigate the potential mechanism of CTRP4 feeding inhibition, 300 ng/g BW AbCTRP4 was injected intraperitoneally. The findings demonstrated that AbCTRP4 treatment for 1 h significantly promoted the mRNA levels of anorexigenic peptides (pomc, cart, and leptin) while suppressing the mRNA abundances of orexigenic peptides (npy and agrp).In addition, the jak2/stat3 pathway in the hypothalamus was significantly activated after 1 h of AbCTRP4 treatment. In conclusion., this study confirms the anorexigenic effect of CTRP4 in Siberian sturgeon.

The slow reaction kinetics and structural instability of organic electrode materials limit the further performance improvement of aqueous zinc-organic batteries. Herein, we have synthesized a Z-folded hydroxyl polymer polytetrafluorohydroquinone (PTFHQ) with inert hydroxyl groups that could be partially oxidized to the active carbonyl groups through the in situ activation process and then undertake the storage/release of Zn2+ . In the activated PTFHQ, the hydroxyl groups and S atoms enlarge the electronegativity region near the electrochemically active carbonyl groups, enhancing their electrochemical activity. Simultaneously, the residual hydroxyl groups could act as hydrophilic groups to enhance the electrolyte wettability while ensuring the stability of the polymer chain in the electrolyte. Also, the Z-folded structure of PTFHQ plays an important role in reversible binding with Zn2+ and fast ion diffusion. All these benefits make the activated PTFHQ exhibit a high specific capacity of 215 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 , over 3400 stable cycles with a capacity retention of 92 %, and an outstanding rate capability of 196 mAh g-1 at 20 A g-1 .

As a powerful but computationally intensive method, hybrid computational models study the dynamics of multicellular systems by evolving discrete cells in reacting and diffusing extracellular microenvironments. As the scale and complexity of studied biological systems continuously increase, the exploding computational cost starts to limit large-scale cell-based simulations. To facilitate the large-scale hybrid computational simulation and make it feasible on easily accessible computational devices, we develop Gell (GPU Cell), a fast and memory-efficient open-source GPU-based hybrid computational modeling platform for large-scale system modeling. We fully parallelize the simulations on GPU for high computational efficiency and propose a novel voxel sorting method to further accelerate the modeling of massive cell-cell mechanical interaction with negligible additional memory footprint. As a result, Gell efficiently handles simulations involving tens of millions of cells on a personal computer. We compare the performance of Gell with a state-of-the-art paralleled CPU-based simulator on a hanging droplet spheroid growth task and further demonstrate Gell with a ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) simulation. Gell affords ~150X acceleration over the paralleled CPU method with one-tenth of the memory requirement.

Brain microglia (MG) may serve as a human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV) reservoir and ignite rebound viremia following cessation of antiretroviral therapy (ART), but they have yet to be proven to harbor replication-competent HIV. Here, we isolated brain myeloid cells (BrMCs) from nonhuman primates and rapid autopsy of people with HIV (PWH) on ART and sought evidence of persistent viral infection. BrMCs predominantly displayed microglial markers, in which up to 99.9% of the BrMCs were TMEM119+ MG. Total and integrated SIV or HIV DNA was detectable in the MG, with low levels of cell-associated viral RNA. Provirus in MG was highly sensitive to epigenetic inhibition. Outgrowth virus from parietal cortex MG in an individual with HIV productively infected both MG and PBMCs. This inducible, replication-competent virus and virus from basal ganglia proviral DNA were closely related but highly divergent from variants in peripheral compartments. Phenotyping studies characterized brain-derived virus as macrophage tropic based on the ability of the virus to infect cells expressing low levels of CD4. The lack of genetic diversity in virus from the brain suggests that this macrophage-tropic lineage quickly colonized brain regions. These data demonstrate that MG harbor replication-competent HIV and serve as a persistent reservoir in the brain.

Organic materials have attracted much attention in aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) due to their sustainability and structure-designable, but their further development is hindered by the high solubility, poor conductivity, and low utilization of active groups, resulting in poor cycling stability, terrible rate capability, and low capacity. In order to solve these three major obstacles, a novel organic host, benzo[b]naphtho[2',3':5,6][1,4]dithiino[2,3-i]thianthrene-5,7,9,14,16,18-hexone (BNDTH), with abundant electroactive groups and stable extended π-conjugated structure is synthesized and composited with reduced graphene oxide (RGO) through a solvent exchange composition method to act as the cathode material for AZIBs. The well-designed BNDTH/RGO composite exhibits a high capacity of 296 mAh g-1 (nearly a full utilization of the active groups), superior rate capability of 120 mAh g-1 , and a long lifetime of 58 000 cycles with a capacity retention of 65% at 10 A g-1 . Such excellent performance can be attributed to the ingenious structural design of the active molecule, as well as the unique solvent exchange composition strategy that enables effective dispersion of excess charge on the active molecule during discharge/charge process. This work provides important insights for the rational design of organic cathode materials and has significant guidance for realizing ideal high performance in AZIBs.

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) has a low incidence but a poor prognosis. And ACC has complex clinical manifestations and limited treatment. Pyroptosis has a dual character and has both positive and negative effects on cancer. However, the role of pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs) in ACC and the impact on ACC progression remains unelucidated. This study performed systematic bioinformatics analysis and basic experimental validation to enable the establishment of prognostic models and demonstrate levels of immune infiltration. Pearson's correlation analysis was used to assess the association of PRGs with tumor immune infiltration, tumor mutation burden (TMB), microsatellite instability (MSI), and immune checkpoints. There 4 PRGs were upregulated, and 25 PRGs were downregulated in ACC. At the same time, we analyzed and reviewed the genetic mutation variation landscape of PRGs. Functional enrichment analysis was also performed to clarify the function of PRGs. Pyroptosis, the inflammatory response, the Toll-like receptor signaling pathway, and the NOD-like receptor signaling pathway are the functions and pathways mainly involved and exerted effects by these 33 PRGs. The results of the prognosis analysis revealed high expression of CASP3, CASP9, GSDMB, GSDMD, NLRC4, PRKACA, and SCAF11 caused a poor survival rate for ACC patients. The above seven PRGs were screened by the optimal λ value of LASSO Cox analysis, and the five selected genes (CASP3, CASP9, GSDMB, GSDMD, NLRC4) were involved in constructing a prognostic PRGs model which enables the overall survival in ACC patients can be predicted with moderate to high accuracy. Prognostic PRGs, especially CASP9, which is the independent factor of ACC prognosis, may be closely correlated with immune-cell infiltration, tumor mutation burden, microsatellite instability, and immune checkpoints. Quantitative Real-Time PCR (qRT-PCR), Western blot and immunohistochemical were performed to validate the mRNA expression levels of CASP9 in adjacent normal tissues and ACC tissues. According to the result of immune checkpoints analysis, NLRC4 and GSDMB may be identified as potential therapeutic targets. In conclusion, we established a prognostic model of PRG characteristics in ACC and analyzed the relationship between PRGs and immune infiltration. Through our study, it may be helpful to find the mechanism of pyroptosis in ACC.

Herein, we reveal that this illogical phenomenon is attributed to the reconstructed electrode/electrolyte interface at high rates, wherein the condensed electrical double layer (EDL) and the tightly absorbed Zn2+ ions on the Zn electrode surface afford compact and corrosion-resistant Zn deposits.

Background: There is a large group of patients suffering from lung cancer and receiving home hospice care in China. However, little is known about the prediction of their survival time. The purpose of this study was to determine whether quality of life independently predicts survival among advanced lung cancer survivors who are receiving home-based palliative care. Methods: In this retrospective study, we analyzed data from 937 advanced lung cancer patients who had received home-based palliative care between March 2010 and March 2020. We used Kaplan-Meier survival curves to determine the factors associated with survival time and applied the Cox proportional hazards model to examine the effect of quality of life on survival. Results: The study included 928 patients with a mean age of 63 years; and 72.1% of them were men. Factors associated with shortened survival included age, sex, place of residence, weight loss, anorexia, nausea, edema, quality of life, and Karnofsky performance status. After adjusting for other variables in a multivariate Cox proportional hazards model, we found that quality of life was an independent positive predictor of survival. Conclusions: As an independent factor predicting the survival of advanced lung cancer patients, quality of life should be taken seriously. Medical staff and healthcare workers need to pay special attention to this predictive factor since it may serve as early risk identification indicator for professionals who provide home-based palliative care, helping them to create effective personalized care plans.

BACKGROUND: The number of patients with advanced cancer is rapidly increasing, and the subgroup of this population with low socioeconomic status has suffered more disease burden than others. However, there is no recent qualitative synthesis of primary research studies into advanced cancer patients with low socioeconomic status. OBJECTIVE: To synthesise qualitative research findings into advanced cancer patients' experiences with low socioeconomic status, and then to help provide targeted and effective strategies to improve their quality of life. DESIGN: A systematic review and meta-synthesis of qualitative evidence (PROSPERO: CRD42021250423). DATA SOURCES: PubMed, Web of Science Core Collection (ISI Web of Science), Cochrane Library, Embase, OVID LWW, CINAHL Complete (EBSCO), PsycINFO (EBSCO) and MEDLINE (ISI Web of Science), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WangFang, and Vip databases were systematically searched from their original dates to July 2022. Qualitative data were appraised using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) qualitative assessment. FINDINGS: The findings were synthesised into the following three analytical themes: (1) multi-dimensional disease distresses; (2) barriers in coping with disease distresses; and (3) strategies for dealing with disease distresses. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with advanced cancer with low socioeconomic status experienced complicated and interactional distresses, unique life barriers, and a wide range of adaptation strategies. These findings will provide a comprehensive perspective to promote individual-centred health care systems and services to help these vulnerable people deal with the challenges of disease and improve their quality of life.

This paper studies the influence of carbonaceous components on the optical properties of particulate matter (PM) in biodiesel combustion by conducting a bench test on an electronically controlled high-pressure common-rail diesel engine. In addition, the PM produced by the combustion of diesel oil, soybean oil methyl ester (SME), waste edible oil methyl ester (WME), and palm oil methyl ester (PME) was collected. The carbonaceous composition and optical properties of diesel and three biodiesel particulates were then analyzed. The obtained results showed that the ratio of organic carbon (OC) to total carbon (TC) in diesel PM was 0.25 and the ratio of OC/EC was 0.33. The OC to TC ratio of biodiesel PM was significantly greater than that of diesel PM, ranging between 0.59 and 0.65, with OC/EC values in the range of 1.44-1.86. The mass absorption cross-section (MAC) values of three kinds of biodiesel particles were all higher than those of diesel particles. When the incident laser wavelength increased, the difference of MAC values among four kinds of fuel particles gradually decreased. The MAC values of all the three biodiesel particles were higher than those of the diesel particles, and the difference between the MAC values of the four fuel particles gradually decreased with the increase of the incident laser wavelength. Afterwards, the "shell-core" model of particles was developed with 80 nm EC sphere as the core. At the two refractive indices, the scattering cross section, absorption cross section, and extinction cross section of the particles decrease with the increase of the incident light wavelength, and the scattering cross section, absorption cross section, and extinction cross section of the particles increase with the increase of the OC coating thickness.

The effects of high-intensity ultrasound on the physicochemical and gelling properties of Litopenaeus vannamei (L. vannamei) myofibrillar protein (MP) were investigated. MP solutions were subjected to ultrasound treatment (power 100 W, 300 W, and 500 W). It was found that the carbonyl and free amino contents of MP increased significantly with increasing ultrasound power, accompanied by enhanced emulsification properties. The increase of free radical and carbonyl content indicated that ultrasound induced the oxidation of MP. With the increase of ultrasound power, it was found that the total sulfhydryl content of the shrimp MP decreased, but the surface hydrophobicity increased significantly, which might be closely related to the conformational changes of MP. Meanwhile, a significant increase of ß-sheet but a decrease of α-helix in the secondary structure of MP was observed with increasing ultrasound power, indicating that ultrasound treatment induced the stretching and flexibility of MP molecules. SDS-PAGE showed that L. vannamei MP consisted of myosin heavy chain, actin, myosin light chain, paramyosin and tropomyosin. Ultrasound treatment could lead to some degree of oxidative aggregation of MP. The results of rheological properties indicated that ultrasound treatment enhanced the viscoelasticity of MP and further improved the gel strength of MP gel. This study can provide a theoretical basis for the functional modification of shrimp MP and the processing of its surimi products.

The control of linear/branched selectivity is one of the major focuses in transition-metal catalyzed allyl-allyl cross-coupling reactions, in which bond connection occurs at the terminal site of both the allyl fragments forming different types of 1,5-dienes. Herein, terminal/internal regioselectivity is investigated and found to be switchable in allyl-allyl cross-coupling reactions between gem-difluorinated cyclopropanes and allylboronates. The controlled terminal/internal regioselectivity arises from the fine-tuning of the rhodium catalytic system. Fluorinated 1,3-dienes, 1,4-dienes and 1,5-dienes are therefore produced in good yields with respectively isomerized terminal, internal, and terminal regioselectivity.

Qualitative research is marked by context sensitivity with an inclusion of the participants' points of view and setting, how they can affect how participants feel and how this feeling is captured and interpreted by researchers (Yardley, 2017). This is the value of exploring affective variables through qualitative research. The present study focuses on the qualitative studies of L2 affective variables in recent years led by the complexity dynamic systems theory (CDST). This new line of research has employed innovative research methods compatible with the CDST, and has had useful findings. Yet, they seem to lack rigor and systematicity of research. Thus, this observed lack of consistency is problematized in the present study and attempts are made to set evaluative criteria for the judgment of the burgeoning studies and guiding the future line of qualitative and dynamic inquiry in the L2 affective domain. To this aim, the different sets of evaluative criteria proposed for qualitative research are derived from the mostly cited scholars in the research methodology. The relevance of each to the dynamic qualitative investigations of L2 affective variables is discussed. Then these evaluative criteria are abstracted and put forth for the qualitative research in the dynamic phase of second language acquisition (SLA) research. The overall goal is to guide future researchers with an interest in investigating the dynamic and developmental nature of L2 affective variables qualitatively. These evaluative criteria can pave the way for the emergence of more rigorous and systematic qualitative studies of L2 affective factors in the future.

BACKGROUND: Oxidative stress played a key role in the development of bone brittleness and is an important pathogenic factor of senile osteoporosis. A variety of animal and plant-derived peptides have been shown to have significant anti-osteoporosis effects in vivo and in vitro. PURPOSE: In this study, we aim to explore the possible mechanism of wheat germ peptide ADWGGPLPH on senile osteoporosis. STUDY DESIGN: Naturally, aged rats were used as animal models of senile osteoporosis. METHODS: Wheat germ peptide ADWGGPLPH was administered from 9-months-old to 21-months-old, and the effect of ADWGGPLPH on preventing senile osteoporosis was evaluated by measuring serum biochemical indexes, bone histomorphometry, bone biomechanics, and other indexes to elucidate the mechanism of ADWGGPLPH in delaying senile osteoporosis by detecting the expression of osteoporosis-related proteins. RESULTS: The results showed that ADWGGPLPH could effectively reduce the level of oxidative stress and improve the microstructure and bone mineral density in senile osteoporosis rats. In addition, ADWGGPLPH could improve the proliferation and differentiation activity of osteoblasts and effectively inhibit osteoclasts' differentiation by regulating the OPG/RANKL/RANK/TRAF6 pathway. CONCLUSION: ADWGGPLPH from wheat germ exhibited a notably effect on senile osteoporosis and has a high potential in the development of the nutrient regimen to against senile osteoporosis.
