This study aimed to provide an understanding of the influence of eugenol on CYP1A2, 2C9, 2D6, and 3A4 in human liver microsomes (HLM). Specific substrate for CYP1A2, 2C9, 2D6, and 3A4 were incubated in HLM with or without eugenol. The formation of their respective metabolites was assessed with HPLC analytical methods. Eugenol at 1, 10 and 100 µM levels inhibited the activity of CYP1A2 and CYP2C9 by 23.38 %, 23.57 %, 39.80 % and 62.82 %, 63.27 %, 67.70 % respectively. While, CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 activity was decreased by 40.70 %, 45.88 %, 62.68 % and 37.41 %, 42.58 % and 67.86 % at 1, 10 and 100 µM eugenol level respectively. The IC50 value of eugenol for CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 was calculated as 11.09 ± 3.49 µM and 13.48 ± 3.86 µM respectively. Potential herb-drug interactions was noted when eugenol is administered simultaneously with medications metabolized by these enzymes, most notably CYP2C9, CYP2D6 and CYP3A4.

Alzheimer's disease (AD), marked by tau tangles and amyloid-beta plaques, leads to cognitive decline. Despite extensive research, its complex etiology remains elusive, necessitating new treatments. This study utilized machine learning (ML) to analyze compounds with neuroprotective potential. This approach exposed the disease's complexity and identified important proteins, namely MTOR and BCL2, as central to the pathogenic network of AD. MTOR regulates neuronal autophagy and survival, whereas BCL2 regulates apoptosis, both of which are disrupted in AD. The identified compounds, including Armepavine, Oprea1_264702,1-cyclopropyl-7-fluoro-8-methoxy-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid,(2S)-4'-Hydroxy-5,7,3'-trimethoxyflavan,Oprea1_130514,Sativanone,5-hydroxy-7,8-dimethoxyflavanone,7,4'-Dihydroxy-8,3'-dimethoxyflavanone,N,1-dicyclopropyl-6,Difluoro-Methoxy-Gatifloxacin,6,8-difluoro-1-(2-fluoroethyl),1-ethyl-6-fluoro-7-(4-methylpiperidin-1-yl),Avicenol C, demonstrated potential modulatory effects on these proteins. The potential for synergistic effects of these drugs in treating AD has been revealed via network pharmacology. By targeting numerous proteins at once, these chemicals may provide a more comprehensive therapeutic approach, addressing many aspects of AD's complex pathophysiology. A Molecular docking, dynamic simulation, and Principle Component Analysis have confirmed these drugs' efficacy by establishing substantial binding affinities and interactions with important proteins such as MTOR and BCL2. This evidence implies that various compounds may interact within the AD pathological framework, providing a sophisticated and multifaceted therapy strategy. In conclusion, our study establishes a solid foundation for the use of these drugs in AD therapy. Thus current study highlights the possibility of multi-targeted, synergistic therapeutic approaches in addressing the complex pathophysiology of AD by integrating machine learning, network pharmacology, and molecular docking simulations. This holistic technique not only advances drug development but also opens up new avenues for developing more effective treatments for this difficult and widespread disease.

Valley surface water is considered a focal public health concern owing to the presence of multi-drug-resistant bacteria. The distribution of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) bacteria in the surface water is affected by the presence of multiple factors, including antibiotics coming from wastewater discharge or other contaminant sources such as pharmaceuticals, biocides, and heavy metals. Furthermore, there is evidence suggesting that high levels of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) can be transferred within bacterial communities under the influence of heavy metal stress. Hence, the primary aim of this study is to investigate the presence of heavy metals and bacterial ARGs in upstream as well as downstream locations of Wadi Hanifah Valley in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Sample collection was conducted at eighteen surface water sites within the valley in total. The selection of ARGs was associated with the most common antibiotics, including ß-lactam, tetracycline, erythromycin, gentamicin, sulphonamide, chloramphenicol, vancomycin, trimethoprim, and colistin antibiotics, which were detected qualitatively using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology. The tested antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) included (blaNDM-1 (for the antibiotic class Beta-lactamases), mecA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), tet(M) and tet(B) (for the antibiotic class Tetracycline), ampC (for the antibiotic class Beta-lactamases), vanA (for the antibiotic class vancomycin), mcr-1 (for the antibiotic class colistin), erm(B) (for the antibiotic class erythromycin), aac6'-Ie-aph2-Ia (for the antibiotic class Gentamicin), sulII (for the antibiotic class sulphonamide), catII (for the antibiotic class Chlorophincol), and dfrA1 (for the antibiotic class trimethoprim). Moreover, an assessment of the levels of heavy metals such as lithium (Li), beryllium (Be), chromium (Cr), cobalt (Co), arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), tin (Sn), mercury (Hg), and lead (Pb) was conducted by using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS). According to our findings, the concentrations of sulphonamide, erythromycin, and chloramphenicol ARGs (erm(B), sulII, and catII) were observed to be the most elevated. Conversely, two ARGs, namely mecA and mcr-1, were not detected in the samples. Moreover, our data illustrated a significant rise in ARGs in the bacteria of water samples from the upstream sites as compared with the water samples from the downstream sites of Wadi Hanifah Valley. The mean concentration of Li, Be, Cr, Co, As, Cd, Sn, Hg, and Pb in the water samples was estimated to be 37.25 µg/L, 0.02 µg/L, 0.56 µg/L,0.32 µg/L, 0.93 µg/L, 0.01 µg/L, 200.4 µg/L, 0.027 µg/L, and 0.26 µg/L, respectively, for the selected 18 sites. Furthermore, it was revealed that the concentrations of the screened heavy metals in the water samples collected from various sites did not surpass the maximum limits set by the World Health Organization (WHO). In conclusion, this study offers a concise overview of the presence of heavy metals and ARGs in water samples obtained from the Wadi Hanifah Valley in Riyadh, KSA. Such findings will contribute to the ongoing monitoring and future risk assessment of ARGs spread in surface water.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide and are associated with increasing financial health burden that requires research into novel therapeutic approaches. Since the early 2000s, the availability of next-generation sequencing techniques such as microRNAs, circular RNAs, and long non-coding RNAs have been proven as potential therapeutic targets for treating various CVDs. Therapeutics based on RNAs have become a viable option for addressing the intricate molecular pathways that underlie the pathophysiology of CVDs. We provide an in-depth analysis of the state of RNA therapies in the context of CVDs, emphasizing various approaches that target the various stages of the basic dogma of molecular biology to effect temporary or long-term changes. In this review, we summarize recent methodologies used to screen for novel coding and non-coding RNA candidates with diagnostic and treatment possibilities in cardiovascular diseases. These methods include single-cell sequencing techniques, functional RNA screening, and next-generation sequencing.Lastly, we highlighted the potential of using oligonucleotide-based chemical products such as modified RNA and RNA mimics/inhibitors for the treatment of CVDs. Moreover, there will be an increasing number of potential RNA diagnostic and therapeutic for CVDs that will progress to expand for years to come.

With the use of specific genetic factors and recent developments in cellular reprogramming, it is now possible to generate lineage-committed cells or induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from readily available and common somatic cell types. However, there are still significant doubts regarding the safety and effectiveness of the current genetic methods for reprogramming cells, as well as the conventional culture methods for maintaining stem cells. Small molecules that target specific epigenetic processes, signaling pathways, and other cellular processes can be used as a complementary approach to manipulate cell fate to achieve a desired objective. It has been discovered that a growing number of small molecules can support lineage differentiation, maintain stem cell self-renewal potential, and facilitate reprogramming by either increasing the efficiency of reprogramming or acting as a genetic reprogramming factor substitute. However, ongoing challenges include improving reprogramming efficiency, ensuring the safety of small molecules, and addressing issues with incomplete epigenetic resetting. Small molecule iPSCs have significant clinical applications in regenerative medicine and personalized therapies. This review emphasizes the versatility and potential safety benefits of small molecules in overcoming challenges associated with the iPSCs reprogramming process.

Although di(2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate (DOTP) is being widely adopted as a non-phthalate plasticizer, existing research primarily focuses on human and rat toxicity. This leaves a significant gap in our understanding of their impact on microbial communities. This study assessed the biodegradation and toxicity of DOTP on microbes, focusing on its impact on biofilms and microbial metabolism using Rhodococcus ruber as a representative bacterial strain. DOTP is commonly found in mass fractions between 0.6 and 20% v/v in various soft plastic products. This study used polyvinyl chloride films (PVC) with varying DOTP concentrations (range 1-10% v/v) as a surface for analysis of biofilm growth. Cell viability and bacterial stress responses were tested using LIVE/DEAD™ BacLight™ Bacterial Viability Kit and by the detection of reactive oxygen species using CellROX™ Green Reagent, respectively. An increase in the volume of dead cells (in the plastisphere biofilm) was observed with increasing DOTP concentrations in experiments using PVC films, indicating the potential negative impact of DOTP on microbial communities. Even at a relatively low concentration of DOTP (1%), signs of stress in the microbes were noticed, while concentrations above 5% compromised their ability to survive. This research provides a new understanding of the environmental impacts of alternative plasticizers, prompting the need for additional research into their wider effects on both the environment and human health.

In this study, a methodical workflow using subtractive proteomics, vaccine designing, molecular simulation, and agent-based modeling approaches were used to annotate the whole proteome of Burkholderia pseudomallei (strain K96243) for vaccine designing. Among the total 5717 proteins in the whole proteome, 505 were observed to be essential for the pathogen's survival and pathogenesis predicted by the Database of Essential Genes. Among these, 23 vaccine targets were identified, of which fimbrial assembly chaperone (Q63UH5), Outer membrane protein (Q63UH1), and Hemolysin-like protein (Q63UE4) were selected for the subsequent analysis based on the systematic approaches. Using immunoinformatic approaches CTL (cytotoxic T lymphocytes), HTL (helper T lymphocytes), IFN-positive, and B cell epitopes were predicted for these targets. A total of 9 CTL epitopes were added using the GSS linker, 6 HTL epitopes using the GPGPG linker, and 6 B cell epitopes using the KK linker. An adjuvant was added for enhanced antigenicity, an HIV-TAT peptide for improved delivery, and a PADRE sequence was added to form a 466 amino acids long vaccine construct. The construct was classified as non-allergenic, highly antigenic, and experimentally feasible. Molecular docking results validated the robust interaction of MEVC with immune receptors such as TLR2/4. Furthermore, molecular simulation revealed stable dynamics and compact nature of the complexes. The binding free energy results further validated the robust binding. In silico cloning, results revealed GC contents of 50.73 % and a CIA value of 0.978 which shows proper downstream processing. Immune simulation results reported that after the three injections of the vaccine a robust secondary immune response, improved antigen clearance, and effective immune memory generation were observed highlighting its potential for effective and sustained immunity. Future directions should encompass experimental validations, animal model studies, and clinical trials to substantiate the vaccine's efficacy, safety, and immunogenicity.

Burning incenses and scented candles may provide harmful chemicals. Although many studies have evaluated volatile organic chemicals emitted by their use and related health risks, extension of our understanding for guiding appropriate use under various use conditions is necessary. In this study, emission characteristics of commercial incenses and scented candles were evaluated in a laboratory chamber using real-time measurement and the time-weighted average exposure concentrations of monoaromatic compounds and monoterpenes were assessed using passive samplers while volunteers living in a studio apartment use them. After burning incense, the average levels of benzene increased from 1.4 to 100 µg m-3. The presence of a wood core in commercial incense products was the main cause of high benzene emission by burning them although the increase in benzene was also influenced by factors such as the brand of the products, the number of incense sticks burned, the duration of each burning session, and ventilation period. Electrical warming of scented candles increased the levels of monoterpenes by factors of 16-30 on average. Considering the emission characteristics found in this study, exposure to benzene and monoterpenes could be mitigated by cautious use of those products in residential areas.

Introduction Post-operative adhesions present a number of difficulties, including intestinal obstruction and infertility, and they frequently require readmission due to adhesion-related problems. Notwithstanding these ramifications, there are surprisingly few thorough national surveys that address surgeons' awareness of adhesives. By assessing Saudi surgeons' knowledge of post-operative adhesions and their use of anti-adhesive medications, this study aims to close this knowledge gap. Methods This study is a cross-sectional observational research study aimed at Saudi Arabian surgeons utilizing a self-administered, semi-structured online questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed to participants via social media and in-person email using basic random selection. It included adhesion morbidity and prevalence, pre-operative informed consent issues, adhesion preventive viewpoints, and anti-adhesive chemical use. Results There were 111 participants in total, of 41% were experienced surgeons with more than five years of experience. According to the survey, the majority of surgeons occasionally employed anti-adhesive compounds, especially during laparotomies (28%), and 38% never used them during laparoscopies. The study found that participants varied in what they informed patients regarding adhesion complications: 25% of participants informed 5%-10% of the patients about the possible adhesion complications in laparotomy procedures, whereas 26% of participants informed 10-25% of the patients in laparoscopic procedures. Compared with their specialist peers, general surgeons agreed more on the clinical significance of adhesions and prevention. Notably, three-quarters of participants were unclear about when to use anti-adhesive compounds. Conclusion While acknowledging the clinical significance of post-operative adhesions and recognizing the potential for prevention, most surveyed surgeons did not include adhesions as a post-operative complication in informed consent. The study underscores a belief in the efficacy of anti-adhesives yet reveals a widespread lack of clarity regarding specific indications for their use. Recommendations include implementing educational sessions during surgical training to heighten awareness of adhesions as a major post-operative complication and to encourage the appropriate utilization of available barriers and pharmacological anti-adhesive products.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Gastrointestinal bleeding is a major healthcare burden and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to assess the prevalence, clinical presentation, and risk factors of patients presenting with gastrointestinal bleeding in the emergency department. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted in two tertiary care hospitals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The medical records of patients who presented to the emergency department with gastrointestinal bleeding between January 2010 and January 2020 were reviewed. Patients aged 18 years or older, with gastrointestinal bleeding (upper or lower) regardless of underlying cause, lifestyle, location of bleeding, health status, or medication use, were included. Demographic characteristics, initial vital signs, medical history, physical examination findings, comorbidities, medications, laboratory and radiological investigations, cause and stage of liver disease, management, and complications were recorded. Endoscopic findings and management of the bleeding site were collected according to the presenting symptoms. RESULTS: A total of 760 patients were included. The mean age was 62.7 ± 17.8 years, and 61.4% were males. The most common comorbidities at presentation were hypertension (54.1%), diabetes mellitus (51.2%), and ischemic heart disease (18.2%). The origins of the bleeding were lower gastrointestinal in 52% and upper gastrointestinal in 48% of patients. CONCLUSIONS: Lower gastrointestinal bleeding was found to be more common than upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Hemorrhoids, polyps, diverticular disease, and colonic ulcers were the major risk factors for lower gastrointestinal bleeding. In contrast, upper gastrointestinal bleeding was predominantly caused by esophageal varices, gastritis, and peptic ulcers.

BACKGROUND: Stress is highly prevalent among adolescents and might lead to maladaptive coping. METHODS: This cross-sectional study assessed the prevalence of stress and determined the types of coping strategies used by adolescents; and identified the predictors of stress levels among this cohort. The study recruited 1344 participants, aged 14 to 18 years, in schools. The study used the DASS-42 and the Brief COPE Inventory Scale for data collection. The findings of this study showed that more than two-thirds of adolescents suffer from stress, and moderate, severe, and extremely severe were 22.8%, 43.0%, and 16.8%, respectively. The most used coping behaviors among these adolescents were religious factors, with a Mean ± SD of (Mean 6.28 ± 1.16), followed by instrumental support (Mean 6.17 ± 1.18). The stress level has a significant negative correlation at (p < 0.001) with active coping (r = -0.183**), self-distraction (r = -0.190**), acceptance (r = -0.140**) and religion (r = -0.097**; P < 0.001). Binary logistic regression analyses revealed that the whole model had R2 (0.232); p < 0.005 and shows that those aged 15 had an odd of 0.272 to develop stress more than those at 18. Fathers' and mothers' education levels strongly influenced adolescents' stress levels. Those with an income between <500 and 500-750 Jordanian Dinars had an odds ratio of 5.241 and 3.514 of developing stress, respectively, compared to their counterparts. APPLICATION TO PRACTICE: This study highlights the significance of developing health intervention programs and counseling services for managing adolescents' psychological well-being and provides valuable insights for policymakers on addressing mental health issues.

The impact of partial and full COVID lockdowns in 2020 on vehicle miles traveled (VMT) in Kuwait was estimated using data extracted from the Directions API of Google Maps and a Python script running as a cronjob. This approach was validated by comparing the predictions based on the app to measuring traffic flows for 1 week across four road segments considered in this study. VMT during lockdown periods were compared to VMT for the same calendar weeks before the pandemic. NOx emissions were estimated based on VMT and were used to simulate the spatial patterns of NOx concentrations using an air quality model (AERMOD). Compared to pre-pandemic periods, VMT was reduced by up to 25.5% and 42.6% during the 2-week partial and full lockdown episodes, respectively. The largest reduction in the traffic flow rate occurred during the middle of these 2-week periods, when the traffic flow rate decreased by 35% and 49% during the partial and full lockdown periods, respectively. The AERMOD simulation results predicted a reduction in the average maximum concentration of emissions directly related to VMT across the region by up to 38%, with the maximum concentration shifting to less populous residential areas as a result of the lockdown.

RESUMO

Echinococcosis is a parasitic infection that is distributed worldwide. Its clinical presentation depends on the size and location of the cyst. A 7-year-old was found with a superimposed infected pulmonary hydatid cyst that was initially misdiagnosed as complicated pneumonia. Our case underscores the challenges of diagnosing and managing echinococcosis, emphasizes the need for a high index of suspicion, and describes the disease's ability to mimic other clinical entities.

Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is crucial for significant weight reduction and treating obesity-related issues. However, the impact of gastrojejunostomy (GJ) anastomosis diameter on weight loss remains unclear. We investigate this influence on post-RYGB weight loss outcomes. A systematic search was conducted. Six studies met the inclusion criteria, showing varied GJ diameters and follow-up durations (1-5 years). Smaller GJ diameters generally correlated with greater short-to-medium-term weight loss, with a threshold beyond which complications like stenosis increased. Studies had moderate-to-low bias risk, emphasizing the need for precise GJ area quantification post-operation. This review highlights a negative association between smaller GJ diameters and post-RYGB weight loss, advocating for standardized measurement techniques. Future research should explore intra-operative and AI-driven methods for optimizing GJ diameter determination.

A serine protease called prolyl endopeptidase (PEP) hydrolyses the peptide bonds on the carboxy side of the proline ring. The excessive PEP expression in brain results in neurodegenerative illnesses like dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. Results of the prior studies on antioxidant activity, and the non-cytotoxic effect of bi-carbazole-linked triazoles, encouraged us to extend our studies towards its anti-diabetic potential. Hence, for this purpose all compounds 1-9 were evaluated to reveal their anti-prolyl endo peptidase activity. Fortunately, seven compounds resulted into significant inhibitory capability ranging from 26 to 63 µM. Among them six compounds 4-9 exhibited more potent inhibitory activity with IC50 values 46.10 ± 1.16, 42.30 ± 1.18, 37.14 ± 1.21, 26.29 ± 0.76, 28.31 ± 0.64 and 31.11 ± 0.84 µM respectively, while compound 3 was the least active compound in the series with IC50 value 63.10 ± 1.58 µM comparing with standard PEP inhibitor bacitracin (IC50 = 125 ± 1.50 µM). Moreover, mechanistic study was performed for the most active compounds 7 and 8 with Ki values 24.10 ± 0.0076 and 23.67 ± 0.0084 µM respectively. Further, the in silico studies suggested that the compounds exhibited potential interactions and significant molecular conformations, thereby elucidating the structural basis for their inhibitory effects.

Background: Five-fifths of all incidents of blindness in Saudi Arabia may be attributed to cataracts. Cataracts are the second major cause of blindness, responsible for 35.5% of cases. Therefore, the purpose of the research was to measure the visual acuity improvement after cataract surgery in children. Materials and Methods: This systematic review followed PRISMA guidelines for reporting systematic reviews. All procedures followed the recommendations of the Cochrane handbook. Studies of varying study designs, both published and unpublished, are included. Retrospective studies with outcomes of pediatric cataract surgery were identified from various databases. Result: After an initial screening, 108 out of 167 items were deemed unsuitable for publication. There were 59 full-text papers assessed for inclusion, and only seven matched the criteria. All the articles included were of a very high standard. Both the duration of therapy and the target population varied widely between the studies. Conclusion: The results indicated that the majority of childhood cataracts are hereditary. Primary posterior capsulectomy and anterior vitrectomy combined with cataract extraction and intra-ocular lens implantation is the treatment of choice for pediatric cataracts. It is recommended that surgery be performed in a properly equipped facility staffed by trained, cooperative personnel and that different procedures be used to enhance post-operative follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Emphasizing the crucial significance of maintaining a national nursing workforce well-prepared with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to respond effectively is the growing frequency of natural and environmental disasters, coupled with public health emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic. So, the study aimed to explore pediatric nurses' preparedness to monkeypox outbreak, and their stress during this outbreak in Egypt. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a 416 nurses direct care for children at selected governmental hospitals in Egypt. Demographic form, Questionnaire for Infectious Disease Outbreak Readiness & Preparedness, factors affecting nurses' preparedness, and the generalized anxiety disorders scale-7 were the tools of the study. RESULTS: (81.5%) of studied nurses had unsatisfactory level of preparedness to monkeypox outbreak. (96.4%) and (95.4%) of them were affected their preparedness by high workload and inconsistent income with the of risk of infection factors. Also, (57.2%) of them had high stress level. CONCLUSIONS: The study revealed the importance of ensuring adequate supplies of PPE are available and provided, and protocols must be implemented to ensure availability in case of an outbreak. Moreover, nurse staffing levels and workload distribution should be regularly reviewed to create reasonable nurse-patient ratios.

The study addressed the challenge of treating petroleum industry wastewater with high concentrations of 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) ranging from 384 to 1654 mg/L, which poses a challenge for bacterial biodegradation and algal photodegradation. To overcome this, a collaborative approach using membrane bioreactors (MBRs) that combine algae and bacteria was employed. This synergistic method effectively mitigated the toxicity of 1,2-DCA and curbed MBR fouling. Two types of MBRs were tested: one (B-MBR) used bacterial cultures and the other (AB-MBR) incorporated a mix of algal and bacterial cultures. The AB-MBR significantly contributed to 1,2-DCA removal, with algae accounting for over 20% and bacteria for approximately 49.5% of the dechlorination process. 1,2-DCA metabolites, including 2-chloroethanol, 2-chloro-acetaldehyde, 2-chloroacetic acid, and acetic acid, were partially consumed as carbon sources by algae. Operational efficiency peaked at a 12-hour hydraulic retention time (HRT) in AB-MBR, enhancing enzyme activities crucial for 1,2-DCA degradation such as dehydrogenase (DH), alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH). The microbial diversity in AB-MBR surpassed that in B-MBR, with a notable increase in Proteobacteria, Bacteroidota, Planctomycetota, and Verrucomicrobiota. Furthermore, AB-MBR showed a significant rise in the dominance of 1,2-DCA-degrading genus such as Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter. Additionally, algal-degrading phyla (e.g., Nematoda, Rotifera, and Streptophyta) were more prevalent in AB-MBR, substantially reducing the issue of membrane fouling.

Due to its excellent electrical conductivity, high transparency in the visible spectrum, and exceptional chemical stability, indium tin oxide (ITO) has become a crucial material in the fields of optoelectronics and nanotechnology. This article provides a thorough analysis of growing ITO thin films with various thicknesses to study the impact of thickness on their electrical, optical, and physical properties for solar-cell applications. ITO was prepared through radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering using argon gas with no alteration in temperature or changes in substrate heating, followed with annealing in a tube furnace under inert conditions. An investigation of the influence of thickness on the optical, electrical, and physical properties of the films was conducted. We found that the best thickness for ITO thin films was 100 nm in terms of optical, electrical, and physical properties. To gain full comprehension of the impact on electrical properties, the different samples were characterized using a four-point probe and, interestingly, we found a high conductivity in the range of 1.8-2 × 106 S/m, good resistivity that did not exceed 1-2 × 10-6 Ωm, and a sheet resistance lower than 16 Ω sq-1. The transparency values found using a spectrophotometer reached values beyond 85%, which indicates the high purity of the thin films. Atomic force microscopy indicated a smooth morphology with low roughness values for the films, indicating an adequate transitioning of the charges on the surface. Scanning electron microscopy was used to study the actual thicknesses and the morphology, through which we found no cracks or fractures, which implied excellent deposition and annealing. The X-ray diffraction microscopy results showed a high purity of the crystals, as the peaks (222), (400), (440), and (622) of the crystallographic plane reflections were dominant, which confirmed the existence of the faced-center cubic lattice of ITO. This work allowed us to design a method for producing excellent ITO thin films for solar-cell applications.
